once upon a time (yesterday) I was browsing the amazing vaidas tag as you do and I don't remember how but somehow kirkorov showed up and istg he looks so weird ☠️ like based off of what I've heard people say about him I'd expected a more old fat man picture. normally I try to only express my positive opinions abt how people look but...well, my expectations were bad but I can't say they were worse than that ._.
ahahahah this man is BEYOND. I won't criticise him openly, just because Christmas is around the corner but I guess you can ready my mind 🤐

We'd better think about Vaidas ❤️

I Apologize
Once upon a time, apologizing on camera was a Chechen and Belarusian practice. Since the outbreak of full-scale war, the Russian authorities have also adopted this method of putting pressure on dissenters, especially in music and pop culture. Here are some examples from the last year. Underdog and La Virgen bars To whom: the police. For what: for holding a charity event to aid…

Tarkan - Şıkıdım (Hepsi Senin Mi?) 1999
"Şıkıdım" (Shake) is a song by Turkish singer Tarkan. It was originally released on his 1994 album lending its title to the album's name, Aacayipsin (Hepsi Senin Mi?). It is written by Sezen Aksu, reproduced by Laurent Marimbert and re-mixed by Yves Jaget for the European music market and included in Tarkan's self-titled compilation album in 1998. It was released as a single after the success of his previous single "Şımarık" (poll #94) in 1999.
This song was later released in English as "Shikidim" on Tarkan's 2006 English-language debut, Come Closer. This song has been covered in Persian by a girl group called Silhouettt, with the song re-named "Paeez". It was also covered by British grime artist Skepta, Russian pop singer Philipp Kirkorov, the Israeli duo Datz, Ukrainian singer Viktor Pavlik and Bulgarian singer Georgi Hristov. For the 2004 Indian film Dhoom it was covered in Hindi as "Shikdum", with lyrics penned by Sameer.
"Şıkıdım (Hepsi Senin Mi?)" received a total of 66% yes votes! Previous Tarkan polls: #94 "Şımarık".

My friend inspired me a little bit, as did Philip Kirkorov's song "Fly". Honestly, I don't know how it will be translated into English correctly, but I suggest you listen to it!

Your discussion of Sweden yesterday was so interesting to me. I’m a eurovision fan from outside Europe so I was never sure how people actually like Sweden. But I am a musician and musicologist, and Sweden removed from EV is essentially a pop songwriting factory which… some pop songs work in Eurovision, some Eurovision songs work as pop songs but a lot don’t. I’ve actually made it into a verb: “Swedening it up” when someone does just as straight up basic pop song. I’m excited to hear quite a few people talk highly of Finland’s song this year though as I have been a Finland fan since I started following EV.
First of all, thank you so so much for supporting Finland 🥺🖤 This year feels even more like an alternative reality than 2021 with people loving our entry, saying it's a sure qualifier and a contender to win the televote. Finland? Being a fan favourite? Doing well? It's so surreal, heartwarming and almost overwhelming 😭😭
As for our neighbour, Swedening it up is a great term 😄 Sweden has learned that the best recipe is to combine a catchy pop song with a charismatic performed, throw in a stage prop nobody else has and voilà, top-10 guaranteed.
I’ve heard Eurovision fans talking about the whole contest Swedifying, not only because Sweden tends to get great results, but has a say in the rules and conventions of Eurovision itself (pre-decided running order came to action in 2013 and current voting system in 2016 – both when Sweden hosted). I’m not a music professional by any stretch of imagination, but Sweden’s reputation as the (hit) pop songwriting factory has also strongly influenced the diversity of the entries we get in Eurovision, and many fans including myself are not keen on that.
Just to give one example, in Eurovision 2017 seven entries were partly or entirely written by Swedish people. Those were of course Sweden, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, North Macedonia and Serbia. The last three were written by the same person, Joacim Bo Persson. Sweden’s songwriting legend Thomas G:son has reached Eurovision 13 times, for seven different countries, and competed against himself in 2007 (Norway & Spain), 2012 (Sweden & Spain), 2015 (Georgia & Spain) and 2016 (Georgia & Cyprus). Some people see using Swedish songwriters as a guarantee of quality, some see it making the contest more boring. I’m with the latter. For me Eurovision is about showing and promoting the songwriting, staging, styling and performing abilities of ones own country with preferably some local flavour thrown in as well. Same songwriters competing for multiple countries in a continent-wide competition just feels wrong and unfair, and I wish more of those had faith in their music industry instead of going the safe and predictable Swedish popfactory route (looking at Malta, Azerbaijan and Cyprus).
In fairness we must bring up that not all of the most prominent Eurovision writers are Swedish. We have the likes of: - Ralph Siegel from Germany, who has made it to Eurovision astounding 24 times for five different countries and competed against himself in 1980 (Luxembourg & Germany) - Boris Milanov from Bulgaria who has made it to Eurovision 12 times for seven different countries and competed against himself in 2017 (North Macedonia & Serbia), 2019 (Azerbaijan & Malta) and 2020 (Bulgaria, Germany and Malta). - Philipp Kirkorov from Russia, who made it to Eurovision nine times for four different countries (but never competed against himself 😕)

They finished off the opposition in Russia and started eating themselves. Interview with a mobilized soldier's wife: there's hope for enlightenment.
You're watching news from the weekly protest at the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is January 13, 14:30.
Concert cancellations continue, along with administrative and criminal cases against artists who thought they were safe because they weren't oppositionists. Those caught up in the repression include participants in Anastasia Ivleeva's "almost naked" party: Philipp Kirkorov, Lolita Milyavskaya, rapper Vacio, and even the owner of the club where it was held. Neither apologies nor the relics of Saint Nicholas, which were gifted to a church, helped them.
Serbian sniper and Putin's confidant for the upcoming elections, Dejan Beric, posted a video on his VKontakte page. In it, he said that the Russian command provided almost no support to Serbian mercenaries and sent them into an assault before New Year, claiming they could capture the necessary weapons in battle. When they refused, they were beaten by the military police.
On January 11, an interview was released on Alexander Plyuschev's channel with the press secretary of the Telegram channel "The Way Home," Paulina. She is 20 years old, has a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, and her husband was mobilized in October 2022. At that time, her daughter was 3 months old, and they hoped he wouldn't have to go to war. But as a law-abiding citizen, he went the military enlistment office. According to her, all documents provided for deferment were not considered. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdp3bLLSkMs
She was raised in a religious family and therefore believed that all authority is from God and must be accepted as such. She began fighting for her husband's return when collapsed the myth that mobilized soldiers wouldn't be on the frontlines and would return within six months. She states: "Those who want to fight should send their children and contract army, but don't use civilians."
According to her, most wives of mobilized soldiers are against the war. But she chooses the path of dialogue with the authorities because she has a young child, and a girl of her age who shouted "no to war" last year is now in prison.
Paulina still believes in the existence of courts and independent media in Russia, and hopes to negotiate with the state. She's already faced bans on protests and the lack of attention from central TV channels. She has many revelations yet to come.
We condemn all who support and participate in the aggressive war that Russia is waging in Ukraine. The more people realize that Putin and his authorities are lying to them, including through channels posing as independent on the internet, the faster this power will fall.
On January 21 at 14:00 in Lisbon at Praça dos Restauradores, there will be a rally "Russia without Putin and Putinism". A similar protest is also being organized in Porto. This is part of a larger campaign against Putin, working towards the common goal of the Russian opposition.
Join us! Let's together hasten the day when Putin is no more! Link in the description. https://www.facebook.com/events/3765824253675650

In early February 2024, the Russian authorities sent the country’s music producers and promoters an updated list of artists who are “banned from concert activity” in Russia. Meduza has obtained a copy of the document from two sources in the music industry.
The blacklist contains attendees of the “almost naked” party that drew sharp backlash from conservative activists and the Russian authorities in December, including singers Philipp Kirkorov, Lolita Milyavskaya, Natalya Ionova (better known as Glukoza), Dima Bilan, and Anna Asti. It also includes artists who have spoken out against the war in Ukraine, such as rapper Loqiemean and the band Neschastny Sluchai (“Accident” or “Unfortunate Event”), as well as others who have been more cautious in their statements about the war, like the bands Komsomolsk and Shortparis.
Even some artists who recently took part in “patriotic” events landed on the list. The bands Mongol Shuudan, Yorsh, and Plan Lomonosov, for example, performed at KinchevFest, a musical festival organized by Alisa band leader Konstantin Kinchev, who has spoken out in support of the Russian army.
One of the artists on the list told Meduza that the new version of the list is its “third iteration.” Shortly before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he said, people with links to the Putin administration warned him that there would be lists like this and that he would land on it if he didn’t “change [his] position.” Another source in the music industry also said the list came straight from the Kremlin.
A Russian music promoter told Meduza that he has seen evidence of the ban being implemented against at least two of the artists on the list. “Promoters are getting calls and being told that we can’t include these artists at events that use state money or hang outdoor ads [for them],” he explained.
The Russian media has reported on the existence of unpublicized music industry blacklists in the past, though the Russian authorities have denied that such lists exist. According to one banned artist who spoke to Meduza, the lists are compiled by the Presidential Directorate for Social Projects, which is led by Sergey Novikov. Meduza’s sources have characterized Novikov as the top figure behind the Russian authorities’ censorship of film, theater, and music. Novikov did not respond to Meduza’s request for comment.

When Putin’s propagandists are partying at the Grammys, it’s time for tougher sanctions | Andriy Yermak
Earlier this month, media from across the globe were training their cameras on the Grammy awards to catch a glimpse of Beyoncé, Adele and Sam Smith. But for the people of Ukraine, the pleasure of watching the cream of music talent perform the biggest hits of the year was spoiled by the presence of Philipp Kirkorov, a Russian pop star often described as “Putin’s favourite singer”. In Kyiv, we know…
