Holy shit this project has been both SO INTENSE and absolutely THE BEST.

@seanmartorana did an absolutely amazing job of designing and painting this mural. It's honestly ridiculous. We also had a squad of 20 students from the Kensington High School for the Creative and Performing Arts paint it with us!

My buddy Tom Donkin helped us take pictures of our finished mural. We're so damn lucky to have him!

Every one of these animals live in our neighborhood in Philly. Some of them, like the bufflehead duck, are super common, whereas others, like the sturgeon, are more rare. The goal here is to educate our neighbors about the cool animals we live among, in the hopes that they care more about the river that we live on the bank of!

The side of our mural has QR codes so that people can learn more about the ecosystem and how they can help the river!

This project was funded by a grant, which fricken RULES, but unfortunately the staff time it took us to do was WAY more than the grant could support. Charlie Cox experience at Philly Fan Expo 2023

So LET”S TALK ABOUT ME MEETING CHARLIE. I’m actually going to make two posts - this one just about my experiences with Charlie, because they were incredibly meaningful and deserve their own post, and then another one about the rest of the con!

I’m going to talk about Charlie first, because of how amazing the experience was, one of the best I’ve had, especially at the autograph table. I’ve done photos, gotten autographs and such before from other celebs - from niche voice actors I loved to people like David Tennant - but this felt Really Really Big. Obviously, I was nervous as all hell because holy shit Charlie Cox, my favorite actor whose work altered the course of my life. I won’t lie - I’d been practicing what to say to him in case I freaked out, but I’m happy to say that everyone who reassured me it would go great, because he was so, so genuine and kind, were right.

The photo op happened first (and thank you to everyone on tumblr guiding me where to go, cause I was LOST about where that was happening), and that went fast. By that point in the con hall, I’d already ditched my Jessica Jones jacket and gloves cause holy shit it’s hot and I am a creature of snow and ice, and my hair was a mess, but honestly I didn’t care, cause there he is. You don’t get long, but he made the most of it and he was SO sweet. Ya’ll, he asked my name, said my name as he shook my hand, and called me ‘my dear’ in that beautiful voice.

I was literally on the moon, but it was time for the big question:

Will he hold the red thread from TRT?

So in a quiet, nervous, soft author voice, I asked, ‘would you be ok with holding this end of the thread?’

HE FUCKING DID.

HE HELD IT.

HE HELD. THE. RED. THREAD.

I’m fairly certain he doesn’t know about the fic at this point - he wasn’t sure where to hold it until I told him, but he loved that it lit up! AND THEN HE PUT HIS ARM AROUND ME AND I GOT TO PUT MY ARM AROUND HIM BACK.

I’m fairly certain I’m dead in the photo. My soul had left my body. I had ascended. I saw Jesus and he looked like Charlie. I had achieved fic author heights never imagined. My brain filled with enough serotonin and dopamine to sink a ship. I didn’t care that I was hot and sweaty or that my hair was messy or that my cosplay didn’t work out like I’d planned. I had been blessed.

But things got even better at the autograph table, and I had one of the most touching experiences ever.

That line was long, but I kept getting glimpses of him and I could already tell he was enjoying interacting with people, and he was making sure everyone got their bit of time with him instead of letting anyone rush people through. He was so happy looking, laughing and grinning, high fives and fist bumps for kids, chatting with fans. Which made me feel a little more confident.

I know some people wondered if I’d tell him about TRT, and I’d already decided I wasn’t going to. Instead, I really, really wanted just a second to tell him what his work as Daredevil had meant for me, as someone who became disabled around the same time Matt did as a kid, and who related to... a lot of what Matt went through in the show. I’d practiced it over and over again, and there was only a fifty percent chance I wouldn’t start crying while telling him, and I wasn’t even sure I’d have time to tell him depending on how much time we had.

He made time.

I got up to him with my art print holy shit he’s even more beautiful in person and his eyes are STUNNING. He said hi, and asked my name so he could personalize the autograph if I wanted (DUH, YES PLEASE), and he apologized about the line after we shook hands. I jokingly told him it was fine since I’d driven hours to get here. A little time in line wasn’t a bother. He even loved one of the buttons on my lanyard - the button of Matt wearing a heart crown specifically! And as he was writing, I knew this was my chance to tell him. He was still signing, so I just decided to go for it in case I ran out of time.

“I just wanted to tell you,” I said quietly, “as someone who became disabled as a kid around the same age as Matt did—”

And then he did something I didn’t expect, something I’d rarely seen anyone do, famous or not, and something I’d never had an actor or artist do for me.

He immediately set down the pen, leaned in close over the table, and made direct eye contact, while giving me the most genuine, gentle, encouraging smile I’d ever seen.

In that moment, I knew everything in him was listening, that he cared about what I was about to say and recognized that this was important to me, and that he’d closed the distance to make this conversation just... us. It felt personal in a way I’ve never experienced at a con or signing.  

Just like that, I wasn’t afraid to tell him what I’d wanted to.

“And as someone who related to... a lot of what Matt went through, his struggles in the show, and especially the dark parts of season 3,” I said, more confidently now, “I wanted you to know that all the work you put in, the way you played it, the way you played Matt and treated it seriously, seeing that helped me process and heal from a lot of my own trauma and pain over what I’ve gone through with my illnesses. What you did was important and it really helped me. So I wanted you to know that, how much that meant to me, and to say thank you.”

The whole time I spoke to him, he kept direct eye contact, and didn’t look away once. He didn’t get antsy, or look like he wanted me to hurry up (which I’d have understood, cause damn, these are long days for him). He listened, fully engaged and leaning in, his eyes warm and soft and kind but incredibly serious. I’m not sure how often he’s been told something like this—a lot, I expect; his portrayal was just that good, and I know it was important to a lot of fans—but what I was trying to tell him clearly meant something to him. I felt heard, seen, and understood.

Charlie really does care about his fans. It isn’t an act. I’m sure of it now.

“Thank you, truly,” he said, just as quietly but with that honest smile, eye crinkles and all, and seeing it in person, that close up, I swear the room felt ten times brighter. “Thank you for coming to tell me that. It means a lot, the idea that something I did meant so much and that it could help you. I’m so grateful that you were able to come visit and tell me.”

We shook hands after that. He wished me a good day and I told him thank you again, and that was that. The interaction only lasted maybe a minute, but it meant the absolute world to me, as did what he’s done as Daredevil. And now he knows that.

Danny could have sworn he left his hunting gear under the bed, and he could have sworn that you said you were going to take a shower. Surely these two things weren't related

He immediately sneaks off to grab Philly and starts taking pictures (flash off so he doesn't get caught ofc)

Danny tries his best to stifle his giggles when you start impersonating him, especially because his coat doesn't quite fit you so the sleeves and straps keep flailing around

He tiptoes behind you to snap a quick picture of the two of you in the mirror before he hugs you

"I should let you wear this more often~" "Only when it's clean~"

As much as he loves seeing you in his gear, he really enjoys taking it off of you

OG!Michael Myers:

It's very hard to get his clothes because he's always... wearing them... but you were able to get him some t-shirts to sleep in!

Lucky for you, this was one of the rare nights where he was actually sleeping, out of his overalls, AND had his mask off

You slip out of bed and get them on as quietly as you can, proudly checking yourself out in the mirror (making a mental note to clean his mask if he'll let you)

He doesn't really do much other than stand and stab, and his clothes are so baggy on you that they make more noise than you'd- uh oh.

Michael sits straight up in the bed, staring right at you in the mirror. His head tilts, eyebrows furrowed while he looks at you before signing.

"Beautiful."

You're thankful the mask hides the blush creeping onto your face before climbing back into the bed, mask back over Michael's face while his arms (and clothes) wrapped around you

RZ!Michael Myers:

He was stomping around your shared space, angry grunts present while he turned the place over looking for his orange mask

In a way, it was sentimental. It was one of the few things he considered a comfort object, and now it was gone

Michael made his way up to your shared bedroom to hide away and sulk before his eyes landed on you, a familiar color gracing your face along with a few spare clothes he had absentmindedly tossed onto the floor.

He paused. You took his mask. The mask he wears more often than not. And for some reason he wasn't upset anymore. You spin around once you feel his eyes on burning a hole into your back, freezing out of instinct

"What'd'ya think?" You're lifted up within seconds, strong arms holding you where he could really examine every detail of his clothes on you

They complimented you just as well as they fit him, even and while he wasn't good at expressing himself with words, he was amazing with actions~

Vincent Sinclair:

The perks of having a partner that preferred to cover his skin to avoid any wax accidents (waxidents as you called them) was that you got to wear his clothes while he was working.

Vincent's big sweater, Vincent's big jacket, it looked surprisingly good on you, and was the epitome of comfort.

So much so that you barely noticed when said partner placed his hand on your shoulder, jolting you from your position on the bed. He pointed to his clothes on you, tilting his head

"Sorry Vinny, they're just really comfy!" Well he couldn't really argue with that-

Vincent took your hand like you would break in his hold, pulling you down to his workshop while bringing out a spare canvas, painting over the sketch he had given up on. He has the perfect reference now

Expect to pose for a while, if he needs you in a different one he'll position you himself, making sure to pepper kisses on you to show his appreciation. He's going to make as much art as possible to preserve this moment.

Philly Fan Expo highlights:

MEET @pastafossa !!

We had our photo before anything else and sadly I guess i forgot to order a digital copy so I have to scan mine later and post it.

And then the autograph line: seeing Charlie again from the line:

Then it was my turn! For someone reason I decided to tell Charlie that I just quit a horrible job and coming here to meet him was a highlight at the end of that job. And he basically said he was glad I left a job like that AND THEN wished me good luck in my next endeavors! 😭 so, since Charlie has blessed my next adventure, I will be walking in the place of my dream job to hand them my resume and hope for the best!

The panel was really good! Fans asked some good questions and questions they also couldn’t answer. Also, a popular “fact” was debunked by Charlie. He did not actually live with Eddie, Andrew and Rob. (Also got a video of Charlie fondling that flipping microphone, like sir please. What were you doing!?😂)

I was so glad to walk the show floor this time around as I wasn’t able to do so at MegaCon. Me and Pasta were on the hunt for Daredevil stuff which was majorly lacking! But I was able to find a cool silhouette print (that I low key “stole” from someone. Okay, that’s a lie: I saw the print on the wall and then saw this guy pick it up from the bin and I asked if he saw many more in there and sudd he’s handing it to me, basically shoving it in my hand for me to take. I was like “oh no! I can’t take it I just asking if there was more!” And he insisted that I take it and his friend was like “trust me. Take it.” So, I did. And now it’s mine)

Art:

Our hunt continued and I spotted a beautiful Daredevil art print and pointed it out to Pasta and she bought it! The artist signed it for her and he’s also on Etsy, which we have seen that print before! So we both were successful in our DD art hunt!

At that point we were so done, sore and tired and later went to eat where we were low key “kicked out” of the Panera bread cuz we sat there talking most of the time 😂

But I gotta say. Hanging out with @pastafossa all day was amazing! It didn’t feel like it was the first time meeting in person, it felt like I’ve already known her for years so that was awesome. And I got to witness her ask Charlie to hold the glowing red thread to his chest!

Besides Charlie, one of the best parts this weekend was when fans of Pasta and TRT came up to her. Seeing and hearing the impact TRT has on people is incredible and you guys sang praises to someone immensely talented in writing in every way. I loved hearing the passion in your voices and the things you spoke about because I FEEL THE SAME WAY! I love that this Daredevil fic has brought people together and made friends out of each other and we all collectively, deeply love what Pasta has created.

hi ari! iirc youre from philly or around the area right? any tips of what are must sees for someone whos visiting for the first time? you know, anything that isnt in all the travel guides? thank you so much and happy new year! :)

yes i live in philly! whether i have useful tips is another story all together though 💀 i don’t really have a lot of time to go out in the city anymore because of my kid, who is also a picky eater (so i’m not really as tuned into the restaurant scene as i used to be). also a lot of the stuff i would recommend is either probably in the guides… or isn’t in season right now (like for example the southeast asian market that’s in fdr park is amazing but it won’t be back until the summer). also a lot of the stuff that i felt was quintessentially a fun philly experience (like fiume) got modernized in a way that means i can’t imagine it’s as fun anymore.

i will say that if you are a first timer monk’s is always worth a visit (it’s a very nice classic belgian beer bar), my favorite pho is pho 75 on washington avenue (bring cash), the philly art museum’s really nice but the barnes is a more unique experience, cuzzy’s on 5th street has excellent ice cream and is run by an incredibly nice dude. if you like thai food and can get a reservation kalaya in fishtown is one of my favorite restaurants in the city (like it’s in guides and has won awards but the hype is deserved). if you want a good philly pizza slice experience, highly recommend pizza shackamaxon which is also in the vicinity of several decent bars and restaurants (lloyd’s is a very chill neighborhood place with a good beer selection, great food, and incredibly nice staff). the sports stadiums are really easy to get to on public transit (the broad street line runs right to the stadium) and you can usually grab cheap flyers tickets the day of a game, so if you can do that i would also recommend it for the experience! if you’re driving the best cheesesteak is john’s roast pork but make sure you check the hours bc they close early.

there are a ton of music venues too if you’re into that kind of stuff. you can see shows at the first unitarian church, union transfer, kung fu necktie, underground arts, etc. would recommend checking ahead to see if there are any bands you’re interested in coming through.

public transit here is pretty easy to use (broad street line runs north/south, the el runs east/west, and there are also trolley lines that will take you to different parts of west philly) but you will probably also see some of the city’s issues in microcosm there. by which i mean unhoused people and drug use. if you aren’t used to big city public transit in your own home, i would just say to be aware of your surroundings and you’ll be fine. if you are used to it, philly probably isn’t any different from what you see there.

Total Eclipse of the Trip

There are a lot of lessons to be learned when you book a train trip that spans 12 plus days, 6000 miles, and a lifetime of dreams. There are routes, maps, and timetables to study, and then it is cobbled together with towns, sights, and special interests along the way. Back in January PG had her double screen home office displaying Amtrak maps as we began piecing together, bit by bit, the dream trip, leaving time for connections and considering the optimum direction for each train, as well as daylight hours for the most scenic sections. Why go through the Sierras in the dark? And if you do have to make a connection, it’s best to do it where you don’t mind hanging a bit, just in case you miss that connection and are stuck there for hours (days). Much of this I learned from hours of study on the Amtrak Facebook pages (sad stories of families stranded in Idaho after rock slides and other such bring my dream down a notch why don’t ya stories). So I learned early that there were going to be glitches over the course of these 6000 miles and I was poised to pivot with aplomb—extra night here, a layover there, I had backup plans for every step of the way. However, I was NOT prepared to pivot before we even began.

That’s right. There we are getting on the train in Philly, headed to DC and from there on the overnight train to Chicago, where on Monday we would board the king of all trains, the whisperer of the wind, the Amtrak flagship—the amazing California Zephyr. Hearts pounding with excitement we step on that train and as the doors close I hear my phone ringing. With a quick dismissal upon seeing an 800 number I assure PG it is just the Red Cross in pursuit of my blood.

Well with that buildup you probably guessed that my blood is not really in that much demand. Indeed that was Mrs. Amtrak calling to put a cabash on our 3000 hours of planning and 6900 miles of traveling. The California Zephyr was CANCELLED for Monday due to high winds. High winds? A train can’t go through high winds? I can ride my BIKE on the beach in high winds. I am incensed. But Mrs. Amtrak insists that safety is her concern and apparently she considers 90 MPH winds to be beyond high, and in fact she thinks they are very very high, and she does not care about our 3000 hours of planning or disappointment. We can have a refund. A REFUND? There is no amount of money that will convince us to pack up and go home. Without delving into the minutia of details for how to rearrange 6000 miles, start to finish, suffice it to say Philly Girl went to work on her computer, and with the help of multiple Amtrak agents in person and on the phone, and in person agents on the phone with other agents, we flipped our trip upside down and backwards, first on to Montana, then back to Chicago on the Zephyr at the end of our trip (hopefully the winds have died down by next week).

So right now we are in 93% eclipse Chicago on this beautiful, sunny, warm spring day after a beautiful overnight ride. Did we sleep? Sort of. More on some of the logistics later. But it sure was a beautiful ride through beautiful Harper’s Ferry, WV, Pittsburgh, Sandusky (Hello Will and Missy), and into Chicago this morning.

Chicago Union Station is amazing. Built in 1925, it covers many city blocks and features beautiful design and art. We cashed in some Guest Reward points to gain access to the Metropolitan Lounge. This is a game changer on long trips offering an array of snacks, coffee, a marvelous shower (yes a shower, did you think there would be no showers?), and best of all, a place to stash our luggage while we explored Chicago and experienced the amazing eclipse as well as an amazing lunch. If you ever take the train to Chicago know that the station is a joy and is located in a beautiful area with lots to do and see in walking distance.

We’re getting ready to board the Empire Builder headed west now. While the trip we had planned got eclipsed, we’re taking it all as a sign to make the most of whatever surprises come next.

how was the trip?

Oh My God, It was amazing! Thank You so much for asking

Sorry, I've been so busy working I haven't been able to post one here about it. But,,, I loved it, I wasn't able to go to the Mutter Museum, which was unfortunate, there's simply too much to do in the city, its impossible to do it all in one week.

I also forget just how expensive museums and such can be, especially when I'm paying for all three of us, definitely worth the money tho! Also, most of the areas we went to were very walkable, which I appreciated, until it started raining. We actually ended up stopping at a store and buying an umbrella, so it was all well in the end.

I enjoyed walking down South Street and going to all the little shops there. We went to the Magic Gardens, which was so cool! And I spent nearly a whole day (we had to leave once they were closing) at the Museum of Art, which I wish I had taken more pictures of. just the architecture itself there is beautiful.

I went to Adventure Aquarium in Camden, Oh it was so much fun!! The shark tunnel and the shark bridge, and I got to touch an epaulette shark!! I love Sharks so that was definitely a highlight

Oh, and I was able to get a tattoo!! There's this really cool artist based in Philly. She does these tattoos that are basically "drawn" by a tree, which I think is really, really, cool; and I'm extremely happy with mine, it was done by a maple tree. :)

All and all it was totally worth the 20-hour one-way drive, lol, I also got to see Chicago, which was cool, I haven't been since I was extremely small.

I really like it there, I can't wait to go back, because I most definitely will be, right now I'm looking into colleges in the area because I think it might be cool to go to school there.

Thriller and Costume for the Halloween ask game!

Thriller:

My favorite Halloween song is currently either “Wytches Brew” by Omnia (and I know you’re an Amazing Devil fan and you would LOVE it and Omnia in general) and another song that’s technically not Halloween but has 19th century gothic horror vibes it’s called “1816 The Year Without A Summer” by Rasputina, it’s on my Critical Role playlist for Percy De Rolo because that kid is a frickin gothic horror protagonist fr fr.

Costume:

I’ve been really sick this month with immune system/chronic pain issues sadly and wasn’t able to throw together the Columbo costume I wanted to do. So I’ll probably just be Eric Draven from The Crow again since I have the supplies for it. On the flip side though my sibling made a frickin RAD costume of Red Guy from Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared that I hope they send me pictures of while they’re in Philly with their art school buddies

Darnell is an amazing artist and does flash animations in his free time. You might be able to see some of his art out and around philly

Darnell is the antithesis to bf as in he is incredibly intelligent but just doesn’t care. The world could be falling apart and he’d just shrug it off and go smoke some weed. Despite this he despises bf with every fiber of his being.

Darnell has it the easiest out of the three so he is constantly tortured by survivals guilt and acts impulsively to gain some control back for the people hurting in his life.
