TEASER BELOW THE CUT (APPROX. 500 WORDS)

Younghoon had never been tardy to your tutoring sessions last year, so you weren't surprised when you saw him seated at your usual table in the corner. He glanced up from his phone as you walked in, waving. There was a blue colored beanie over his head and a brown corduroy jacket draped over his shoulders.

He noted the container in your hands and his eyes widened like saucers. “You did not.”

“I told you I would save you a piece,” you said sheepishly as you set the container down in front of him and took a seat.

“You—” His bottom lip jutted out. “I can't accept this.”

“You have to. It has your name on it,” you insisted, pointing out the little “Younghoon” scrawled on the side in Sharpie with a smiley face. It was customary in your household to write names on containers if they weren't already color coded or marked with a label. Label makers cost more than Sharpies did, and most of the time, your family didn't mind scrubbing the ink off if needed.

Younghoon's smile was sweet like the pastry sitting in the Tupperware. “I literally made French toast as soon as we stopped texting.”

You laughed. “No way.”

“Yes way! I dragged Hyunjae's ass out of bed,” he told you with great energy, eyes alight as he recalled his late morning antics to you. “I really didn't expect that you would bring me a slice, Yn, you sweetheart.”

“We had lots of leftovers and I just knew the most enthusiastic bread fanatic I knew had to try some of my big brother's toast,” you told him, pleased with his reaction.

He seemed at a loss for words; he just kept looking at you like you hung the stars in the sky, and you wondered how you could replicate this reaction over and over again. “Thank you,” was what he settled on. “I—” He gestured to the container, to you, to the container, “It means a lot.”

“You're welcome,” you said simply.

Younghoon heaved a great sigh and stood up. “Now I have to buy you some snacks—no. Yn, sit your ass down.”

Your eyes widened a comical amount and you plopped yourself back onto the chair.

His lips wiggled as he held back a smile. “Don't move.”

“You don't have to do this, Hoon,” you shook your head as he began making his way over to the aisles.

“What's that rule in chemistry? Energy can neither be created nor destroyed?” He queried from within the drinks aisle.

“The first law of thermodynamics,” you supplied. “It's not just chemistry though. It's prevalent in all the sciences.” You weren't sure where he was going with this.

“Yeah, well—” He paused. You couldn't see him from where you were, but even the rustling noises stopped. “Shit, that's not the right rule.”

You bit back a laugh. Oh, he was too adorable.

“What's the one where equal and opposite and…?”

Your brain tripped. “Uh, the—the 'for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction’ one?”

More crinkling. “Aha! That's the one. Yeah, so for your actions, I must do as the physicists do, and react accordingly.”

heeseung more than likely has a love for history. he’s a naturally inquisitive, smart man with a thirst for knowledge. even if he doesn’t, out of the courses you take, history is the one hee feels most comfortable with his knowledge in. he’s often caught in the back of en-ter keys with his head buried deep in one of your text books topping up his knowledge of the period of study. many engenes assumed he was helping the boys who were still in education, or that he was enrolled in online classes.

sunghoon for some reason has a passable knowledge in geography. it’s not great but it’s not awful. despite not knowing too much about geography other than locations of countries, he does have a stroke of creativity for projects (and sometimes useless knowledge) that he often provides when it’s required. although he’s been banned from helping you make your projects after he “accidentally” erupted the volcano project you had spent weeks paper macheing.

jungwon being the observant leader that he is, i think he would be great at helping you with studying literature. he can pick up on the smallest of actions or feelings, and this would translate to his help. whenever he wasn’t busy with schedules, he would frequently read the books you were meant to be studying as part of your course and even annotate them, picking up on meanings for different quotes throughout the text. if he’s finished all that, he will read other books from similar genres, and give them to you also annotated with summaries of each book, a little quote list, and even a list of themes throughout the text.

an obvious choice for niki. the boy has a passion for art, especially painting but also photography. if you need a model for some concept pictures, he will gladly offer to model for them, and sometimes he will even give you some candid photos that he has taken of you on dates or daily life that he believes meets the criteria of your brief. sometimes he might even have photos that he’s taken during his schedules or days off that you can use for inspiration to put in your sketchbook. sometimes if you’re on a really tight deadline he will even help you do basic designs for your sketchbook, like painting the pages or doing little doodles.

Uh, hi, I heard you’re supposed to be like the mom of the eggie family? I’m a little to shy right now to come off anon but I thought I could do a little introduction? Some people may know me off this but here goes nothing I guess 😊

I’m Ayto/squishy or rat to some people I am a kinda predebut engene? I didn’t watch ILAND until recently like last month recently because I’m vERY softhearted and hate conflict some people can attest to that but I did know them so I’m not sure how that’d be like classified? I’m an INFP-T personality type. I’m from America and Heeseung/Jungwon biased. I’m not sure what else to put so I’ll just add some random facts; I like reading and I do have a writing blog but it’s very small. I like most sciences and physics and space and stuff like that. I’m also a scuba diver so yay fish and I grew up as a theatre/choir kid so if anyone else like musicals and stuff, hi, I’d love to talk! Okay so here’s my mini rant about the whole “aliens bulit the pyramids” (tagging @i--lias cause you said you hate it too)

Like the problem with it is that it implies that the ancient egyptians couldn’t have built the pyramids, so it must have been aliens. 

Okay bitch, do you have any ideia of what those motherfucking egyptians were capable of??? Like, they knew math, physics, astrology, engenering, architecture, anatomy, they had their own alphabet, if anyone could have built the pyramids, it was the egyptians. And it has been proven again, and again and again, through reserche, science, history, archeology, everything, that the egyptians bulit the freaking pyramids. My god, just do some fucking reserach on google, it ain’t that hard to find the evidence. 

Also, and this was something we discussed in philosophy class once, this ideia is also etnocentrist. For those who don’t know, etnocentrism is the prejudiced concept that some cultures are above or below others(listen this is the basic concept okay, i’m not gonna go balls deep into this). Because the thing is, why wouldn’t they be able to do so? Especially if there’s already enough evidence? The only way they couldn’t is if, in your head, you believe “of course they can’t, they’re egyptians”. And before someone says anything, notice how other buildings in other coutries don’t get questioned like that. Cause if we’re going with the logic that “they couldn’t have bulit that” than no other historical construction or bulding was man-made, all must have been aliens. And I’m talking those huge ass palaces and churchs, those monasteries that are like atop a mountain or something high that’s hard to reach. But again, you don’t see people claim that at much as they do with the pyramids. 

In other words, if I see someone coming up with this bullshit again, Imma throw hands.

MY FRIEND REACTS TO THE 100 : 1x03

So I’m doing this from memory so it might be a bit of paraphrasing and not so precise but I started taking note of her reactions by episode 1x06. This episode made a strong impression on her, especially ONE scene which her heart wasn’t prepared for ^^

*Charlotte awaking from a nightmare* : “But she is so young ! How old is she ?”

*Flashbacks of the Griffin family* : she was at first confused about how they could watch soccer when soccer has been gone for over a century. She thinks that papa Griffin doesn’t looklike an engeneer. “He is too broad shouldered. Would make a good farmer”. So she is now calling him “The Farmer”.

*The delinquents actually doing useful stuffs, like building walls* : “Well finally ! The blonde (Clarke) needs to get back in town for shits to get done (I pointed out to her that it was Bellamy that put them to work)

*Bellamy being cute helping and teasing Charlotte* “Aw, is this the moment that we are supposed to start liking him because he’s got a tender side too ?” (she said that in a sarcastic way, Bellamy is still a jerk to her) “Well he IS a big brother” (more serious tone)

Clarke, Wells and Finn’s adventure in the car during the acid fog : she enjoyed the scene, laughed at Clarke not so fun I-can-be-fun drunkness and her verbal violence towards Wells while Finn was awkwardly stuck in the middle.

Also started to criticize the way the acid fog operated, saying that it didn’t make sense. I advidsed her to give up on the science being reliable in ths show or it would ruin her enjoyement of it.

*Bellamy’s “slay your demons” scene with Charlotte” : “Oh here comes the cute scene with Bellamy and a kid” “Well damn why does he (physically) looks cute ?” “Great ! Now she is going to murder someone !” (oops !)

She is now groaning at all the scenes featuring Finn and Clarke. She has noticed by my reaction to their scenes that I very much didn’t like it either.

SO, The Atom scene :

*About Bellamy* “Ah now is the time when you are going to have to prove that you are not just a talker, and got balls ! Not easy uh ?” Then she added : “Use your axe !”

*Clarke arriving and taking the knife from Bellamy* “Oh so she is going to be the one to do it ?” (impressed tone)

Then she wanted to hide her face because she is a bit sensitive but I told her to watch because I didn’t want her to miss it. And then came THE LOOK, you know which one, and her reaction was priceless ! She actually kinda jumped and “OH MY GOD ! That look ! I can’t ! I’m too sensitive, my heart !” She fazed staring at nothing for a few seconds. “I think that look just transformed me”. You know I get it but I didn’t expect that much of a reaction

*Clarke and Wells scene* : she found it very moving, found Wells so pure “THAT is friendship or maybe more for him”. But honestly she hadn’t recovered from the Atom scene yet.

*Finn making an appearance* : “You go away I’ve made my choice !” (#TeamBellamy) Honestly that reaction might have been in episode 4 I don’t remember.

*Wells dying* : she jumped. “OH MY GOD !” “Argh she cutted his fingers too” “She’s singing Clarke’s lullaby now !” “What the hell ?”

So this episode was quite the trauma for her between the shock of Wells death and Bellamy’s gaze. She told me afterward “This actor should be forbidden from giving this kind of stare. It is unfair”. I think she is in love now : “I want the gif of that scene !”

Edit : I forgot to say that she found the scene when Papa Griffin get arrested was not very well acted by Eliza but that his execution scene was.

Oh! I forgot to talk about the (demi) Saiyan kids! So here is who they are in a nutshell (again, feel free to use as long as you link me what you did, and credit please). As always, be prepared: it's LONG.

Chizu

She's the oldest. She is born with a tail and it is not removed. She learns how to control her Oozaru form when she gets old enough.

Physically, she has soft, violet-ish hair that gently spikes, a good mix of her parents, but her eyes are Gine's and her nose is Bardock's (according to Raditz). When she scowls, though, she looks a lot like her dad, which everyone finds cute or funny (if both are scowling).

She's a quite serious child, a worrywart like her dad, but she also has her mom's blonde side temper. She is quite responsible too, and wants to protect the other kids.

She loves learning everything about the Saiyan race and gobbles up any and every tidbit of info on them, and loves to hear her dad talk about his parents and his life when he was a kid, before the destruction of the planet. She wishes she could have seen it.

This also makes her develop an interest in archeology quite young, so her parents buy her lots of books about ancient civilisations of the Earth. She goes on to study history and travel the world to ancient locations and visits natives to learn about their cultures (she goes to the land of Karin and the tribe that protects it as her first visit). She takes Koli on a few of her ventures, as the younger Saiyan also loves to travel and discover new things. They talk at length about cultures, though Koli is more interested in alien cultures than Earthly ones. After a few years, she compiles all the notes she took on the people she met and writes a book about all the cultures she has encountered.

Master Roshi has a signed copy that he proudly displays to everyone and loves to talk with her about ancient civilisations (since he's super old). Chizu also talks with Popo and Piccolo, since he has Kami's memories, though she's a bit sad that she can't use their knowledge as sources for her work.

She and Trunks get closer as the years pass by too. They also train together a lot when they have the time (or when Trunks isn't with Bardock).

She loves her parents equally but prefers when her mom is blue-haired. She also loves it when her dad acts silly. He only does that at home or when he's alone with the kids (all of them). Her mom gives the softest hugs, and her dad gives the best bear hugs.

Her favourite colour is purple, her favourite animals are horses, and she loves sweets.

Trunks

He's still his mother and father's son, so he's kind of a little tyke, though he's less annoying and mischievous because Chizu WILL beat him if he annoys her enough (yeah, they're around the same strength, but Chizu is scary when she's mad).

He is born tailless and feels kind of self-conscious about it when he learns the importance of tails for Saiyans. But it doesn't put him down, as his best friend (Bardock) was also born tailless.

He has a second name: Vegeta (V), but noone ever uses it to call him, except when he's in trouble (his mom, mostly).

He's very smart, but, since he's quickly bored and prone to mischief, it doesn't stop him from getting into all kinds of situations that make his parents mad at him. Also, if he is alone with Bardock for a bit too long, you can be sure that something will explode. It's just bound to happen.

When he's older, he's very interested in running Capsule Corp. and helps his mom, until he finally becomes the CEO at 34. He helps the corporation run better, since he's less about the science like his mom and granddad, and more about the organizational side. He's still super smart and knows his engeneering stuff, so, when he's stressed, he likes to tinker with things or brainstorm new ideas that he shares with his mom, who still invents a lot of stuff for the company.

He worships his father, but is also a momma's boy, though he'll never admit it. He tries very hard to emulate his dad.

His favourite colour is blue, favourite animals are carnivorous dinosaurs (he doesn't care which kinds exactly, they're all cool) and he loves his grandma's pastries the best.

Bardock

He looks a lot like his grandpa, except his hair has a blue hue to it, and he was born tailless (he doesn't care about that at all). He's a very sweet and fun child, but he's also way too energetic. Don't leave him alone for too long if you don't want something to go boom.

Don't leave him alone with either Trunks or Koli. Shenanigans and destruction is bound to happen.

He loves nature and animals and exploring and flying. He develops an interest in biodiversity. He wants to protect the fauna and flora of the Earth as much as he can, so he often will go visit C17 on the island he lives on and protect the animals from poachers. He kind of likes pummeling low lives, though he has to be careful not to hurt them too much.

When he's older he's still mischievous and high energy, but he can control himself better. He's also very patient with young kids. He has a lot of success with young women, but he's kind of clueless about their flirting most of the time. As an adult, he works as a part-time martial arts instructor for young children in East City (the eastern capital) and as a ranger the rest of the time.

He loves his mom the best! But his dad is very cool, though he has too much hair, and it tickles!

His favourite colour is green, favourite animals are bears and he loves his mom's chocolate treats!

Koli

She's a mix of her mom and father, physically. Her hair is long, longer than Broly's, but the front sections spike (think Cell games Gohan) at the front. She has her mother's eyes and face shape, but, other than that, she looks a lot like her dad.

She's a sunny, adorable and sweet thing. She's quite extraverted, but can be very shy too. She's well-behaved, usually... except when she's with Bardy and/or Trunks without supervision.

Contrary to her cousins and Trunks, she's way more driven to fight, as she's a full-blooded Saiyan. She also has the instincts and all that comes with being of her race, but it's tempered by her mother's teachings.

She loves her quiet life in the mountains, and though she likes to go to the neighbouring villages, or visit the city with her cousins and friends, well, she prefers to stay at home, where she feels most comfortable.

She loves to travel to new places, but only if she's with someone she trusts. She develops a friendship with Piccolo and Dende and is fascinated by other alien races, so she asks all the Saiyans about their travels and what they saw. Vegeta is a bit annoyed at first, but the girl grows on him so he tells her stories when she's around and he's not training.

Her bond with Bardock and Trunks stays strong even as they grow older. She's annoyed, though, when people think that Trunks and her are an item. They're not. They're like siblings (Chizu and Trunks, though...).

As an adult, she likes to participate in martial arts tournaments and show the Earthlings what's real strength, and also put down the sexists, as they annoy the heck out of her.

At one point, she travels to space with her grandfather and Turles for nearly two years. It's an amazing experience, but she's happy to go back home to her family. She enjoys the cuddle pile that greats her when she arrives (her dad doesn't join, but he gives her the longest hug and hair pets when she's finally free from the pile). The family also eats A LOT. And later, she has a dinner date with all the younger kids (Marron included) in a restaurant just for them (thanks to Trunks) and she tells her friends all about her adventures.

She's 1000% a daddy's girl. She will climb him like a tree at any given opportunity, demand cuddles or pets on her hair. Goku finds it so adorable that one time she squealed at such a scene, spooking everyone. Koli is also spoilt rotten by Paragus, who's completely taken with her (Broly finds it weird and Goku, heartwarming). She also loves playing with Turles, who's like the fun rebel uncle. She will also play with Raditz's hair, to his everlasting chagrin.

Her favourite colour is yellow, favourite animals are sabertooth tigers (Turles even gave her one as a pet before Goku told him to release the poor thing, who was terrified of the adult saiyans) and she will eat anything (but has a preference for fish). She also loves gold jewellry, mostly necklaces and bracelets. She has a bit of a collection, thanks to her grandfather who spoils the heck out of her.

Shoyu

He was born before his sister, so he tries to act like the older sibling, but it's usually Azuki who acts more protective of him than the other way around, at least until they go through puberty and he gets more confident (ans stern). He's very introverted and shy and is a carbon copy of his father, except his face shape is softer, like his mom. When he smiles, he has the cutest dimples.

Out of all his siblings, he's the calmest. He loves to read and draw, but also has the Saiyan drive to fight. He's also extremely stubborn when he wants to be, and none of the other kids can make him do anything he does not want to (even the adults have some difficulty when he's in a stubborn mood).

When he grows, Shoyu is very tall (210cm, smaller than his dad, but bigger than anyone else around still, bar Piccolo, who's around the same height) and looks even more like his dad. His friends and siblings joke that he's even more intimidating because he has his maternal grandfather's scowl (and his dad has that melancholy look to him that he does not). He's also a bit tanner and less lean than his dad, which also make him more intimidating.

He's still shy and introverted, but he's not scared to speak his mind or to protect the others. One time, they went out to party with the whole younger generation gang (sans Bulla who was too young still - she did throw a hissy fit at that) and some guys had begun to harass his sisters and he nearly gave them a heart attack when he appeared to tell them to scram. The girls laughed for nearly five minutes after that and cooed at their brother, who was very flustered.

As an adult, he leads a quiet life in the mountains, with his family. When he's not sparring with anyone, you can find him in his studio (a room that was used for storing in their little mansion before he appropriated it) painting, or outside, drawing. His favourite live models are his parents. He loved to depict how he sees them and their relationship. Their house has many paintings made by Shoyu showing all of their group. Goku proudly displays a particular painting, taken from one of Bulma's birthday parties, that shows everyone (even himself).

Some of his less personal paintings he sells with the help of his twin sister, who keeps an online store for him.

He also likes to pester his cousin Chizu about writing other books, as he enjoyed her book on Earth cultures very much. Chizu is very annoyed and likes to shoot ki balls at him each time he brings up the writing stuff.

He's more of a momma's boy (he loves his mom's warmth and protectiveness), but he adores his father too. When he needs quiet or the best hugs, he goes to his dad. Because his dad is HUGE and gives the best hugs. Plus he loves the rare deep purrs his dad sometimes emits when he's chilling.

His favourite colour is red, like his dad, which everyone finds funny when he grows up to look even more like him. Favourite animals are turtles and his favourite food is omurice. When he's around ten, he asks his parent to have his ears pierced. Since then, he always has silver dangling earrings. He also has a dragon pendant reminiscent of Shenron (with ruby eyes) that he wears everywhere. It was a gift from his dad.

Azuki

She's the youngest twin, also the youngest of the siblings. Her hair looks a lot like Raditz's, except she has her dad's soft spikes and his bangs. She has her mother's eyes and face shape, but looks a lot like her dad too.

Azuki is very headstrong, and, like her mother, is extremely driven to fight stronger opponents. Contrary to her brother, she's outspoken and isn't shy, but she's still more quiet than her oldest sister.

She's also kind of a handful for the other adults. If Paragus is babysitting the kids, at the end of the day, he's exhausted, mostly because of Azuki. Turles also has an unfortunate incident that singed his tail's hair and prompted him to stop wearing a cloak because of one of Azuki's shenanigans.

When she's older, she follows her sister when she participates in tournaments to cheer for her, but she mostly continues to shadow her mom and pass time with her brother.

She has a close relationship with Marron, and they like to go shopping together, have dinner-dates and such. It's one of the rare times Azuki is not with her brother or anyone from her family.

When she shares the idea of her brother selling some of his paintings, Trunks shows her how to start an online gallery shop. Turles buys her a state-of-the-art computer and Capsule Corp. installs internet access on mount Paozu so that she can When she gets the hang of it, she begins to make prints of some of the artwork. It helps to pay for the household's needs and still have money left to do anything. They're not rich, but they get by comfortably.

She loves both her parents very much. She tends to shadow her mother a lot, with her little tail wagging behind her, or she climbs on her father's head to see farther away and be the tallest ever. Other than that, she tends to stay around her twin because he's her favourite person ever (her words) and even though she's supposed to be the youngest, she acts like he's the youngest.

Her favourite colour is magenta, favourite animals are panthers and her favourite food is omurice. She has a golden necklace with a dragon pendant that has a ruby in its claws that her dad gifted her for one of her birthdays (same as Shoyu's silver one), she also has golden earrings with rubies that she only wears for parties and more formal occasions.

Bulla

Oh, you thought I wouldn't talk about the princess of all Saiyans? Well, you were wrong, hehe.

She's the youngest of the Saiyan children, so she's kind of spoiled (doesn't help that her parents spoil her rotten). All the other kids are sweet with her because she's so young.

She was born without a tail, and her first name is Bulla, but she has a second name: Esharot. Vegeta calls her that all the time when they're alone or only with the other Saiyans. He's also all wrapped around her little finger and will do ANYTHING for her.

She knows it and, when she gets older (mostly in her tweens and teen years) takes advantage of that, to the despair of her mother.

She's kind of interested in fighting, but not as much as the boys of Goku's girls. She mostly trains to have quality time with her dad.

She's a very happy girl who's sweet, but outspoken, and has a mean streak when she's annoyed enough. She also loves to prank everyone, but tries not to do it to her grandparents and Paragus. She also does not do it often to Broly, because he is scary (and since her daddy is stil wary of him, she doesn't push her luck, even though Broly has a soft spot for children).

She's smart, but her interests are different than her brother. She's not shcolarly like him.

She has the biggest crush on Kori for most of her childhood and teenage years, but it fades away when she's free from puberty nonesense.

She has a strong interest in fashion, which she shares with Marron and, to a lesser extent, Azuki, and the three girls like to go out together from time to time or to talk at length about clothes (well, usually Azuki tunes them out or leaves them be after a time, as she's not as interested as Bulla and Marron).

Bulla even considers a career as a fashion designer, but her first steps leave her depressed with the treatment she received (she may be a strong Saiyan princess, but she's still young and had never been confronted with pervasive mental abuse like she got in her internship). Her father, when she comes back home in tears one day (she couldn't take it anymore, she couldn't), is ready to go kill people for hurting his little princess, but Bulla really needs him, so he calms down enough to comfort her.

The next day, she's out of there and there's a lawsuit for harassment and for the poor treatment she received. Vegeta had talked to Bulma about it and when they're both of one mind like that, they're super scary (evil overlords that will conquer the universe kind of scary).

Since that did not work out, Bulla wonders what she's good at and is aimless for a bit. Until she accompanies her family to a charity function. Her uncle is very impressed with her charisma and her passion with the charity work, so he advises her to look into that.

Finally, she decides to work with her brother in Capsule Corporation, but for the philanthropic side. She makes sure that the ethics and the charities the company support are all good and there's no shady things happening (there is in a few, and they're cut pretty quickly). After three years, Bulla and Trunks really made a name for themselves as a powerful duo.

She's a total daddy's girl, but she also adores her big brother, who also spoils her.

Her favourite colour is pink, she loves unicorns (though her real-life favourite animals are bunnies) and her favourite food is strawberry cake. Like Bulma, she's kind of vain, so she makes sure to always look her best. She's a trendy young woman, and even a trendsetter.

Aaaaaand that's it. Once again, I did not intend to make this into such a monster, but it's great to have a place to put down my ideas, since I refuse to put a lot of the fanfic stuff with my other ideas (I have ENOUGH of them to last me three lifetimes, thank you very much, lol).

Female Goku AUs (because my mind is a mess) - Part 1 (because it got too long, lol)

So, I had one of those early mornings that are overly chaotic and stressful and I'm feeling a bit under the weather, sooooo... comfort stuff: overthinking Dragon Ball what ifs.

This time, we're tackling: What if Goku was born female?

For this, of course, I'm using some of my head canons about female Saiyans and just... you know, DB stuff I came up with that made more sense in my mind.

Since I have several AU ideas where Goku was born female, well, I'll just go and give a little (LOL, LITTLE, she says. When have I ever been concise in my life? Yeah nah, this whole post is apparently ONE idea, and it's long.) summary of what I envision for each one. And of course, since I'm a sap, there's rooooomaaaaance involved, lol.

If you get the urge to create something out of those ideas, feel free to do so! Just link the good stuff to me when you're done, hehe.

Before going into each one, here's a list of stuff that is going to hold true (for me) in all the AUs:

Goku WILL NOT marry Krillin like I've seen in such what ifs. Nuh-uh.

Goku will also NOT end up with Vegeta, even if I like me some Kakavege here and there. They might hook up, but, they're not my favoured ship when it comes to my HCs. Why? Well, Goku will feel attraction (for the first time in her life) during her fight with Veggie, but he's too arrogant for her liking and, even though he's a fighting genius (when he's not all up in his Saiyan pride), she instinctively will search for someone stronger (you know who I'm talking about. I'm not even sorry, lol).

According to my HCs, Saiyan females were NOT sent off-world. So Raditz knew something was up when his parents told him Kakarot was sent away. That plus the way planet Vegeta was destroyed smelled very fishy to him. He knows that Frieza had something to do with it.

Since she's the last known female Saiyan, well... Noone wants to kill her. Veggie wants to bang her even if she's a third class moron that has a paltry power level. Same goes with other male Saiyans that are not family, of age and were not mated pre-Saiyan genocide (aka Nappa was, so he's not interested).

Turles is, in all those AUs, Bardock's twin. It's easier for me that way (if you wanna use any AU but don't like this particular idea, it's ok lol).

Her relationship with Bulma and the crew is a bit different (Bulma is more protective, and the boys are sexist, because they ARE in the canon material).

Since Roshi knows her from such a young age and they develop kind of a grandpa-granddaughter relationship, no creepy stuff. She's the only female character he does not see in this pervy way (plus she's too pure for this).

Let's go!

Goku in the DBZ-verse, movies included (no DBS)

Goku still hits her head and forgets her family and Saiyan heritage.

Regular DB stuff, just, during the 21st Budokai, when her tail is removed, the crowd reacts quite differently to seeing a young girl's body (aka, creeps). Which prompts Jackie Chun to remove his top thingie (Changshan top? Is that the right clothing item? I'm sorry if it's not and feel free to correct me). Goku, for her part, doesn't realize it.

Bulma is even more protective and has the Talk™️ very early with her and tries to warn her about men (because you know Bulma has had some not-fun experiences as a beautiful young woman from a well-known family).

When she grows up and her body changes and she has another talk about female biology with Kami, she realizes that she might not be normal. Because her cycle is way longer than normal women, and she grew way later than usual. It prompts her to talk about this with Kami, who reluctantly tells her about her Saiyan heritage, and explain why he removed her tail.

Goku feels horribly betrayed by everyone. Why wouldn't anyone tell her about the fact SHE killed her grandpa? Why would everyone act like she did not turn into a MONSTER during the full moon? Why wouldn't her grandpa tell her? Why?

Goku demands to know more about her race, so Kami leads her to the Pendulum room and sends her throughout Saiyan history. She's shocked and disgusted by what her race became, but she also meets her mother and loves her even though she does not know that it's her mother. The earlier she travels in Saiyan history, the more she understands about them, and slightly accepts her heritage, but not what they've become. She also learns Saiyago that way.

She learns how to regain her tail (little wink to the Tree of Might film where Turles pushes on Gohan's lower back to make his tail pop, lol). She knows it does not always work, but she's aware. She still does not do it, afraid of the Oozaru in her.

At one point, she is on Sadara (the language is super different but she gets by) and meets Yamoshi in one of her ventures. She kind of develops a crush on him (because I said so). Of course, he's long dead, and she's too young, not yet mature, so nothing happens, but she sometimes thinks of him fondly when she feels lonely.

During the downtime of the 23rd budokai, she confronts Bulma about this, and also tells her that she's an alien. Bulma explains she did not want to hurt her when she realized that Goku had inadvertently caused her grandpa's death, and reminds her of how Gohan reacted when they met again at Baba's palace. Bulma is, of course, a bit surprised about the fact Goku is an alien, but it makes sense.

No Gohan here (I'm sorry, I love him, but it does not make sense here and would feel too contrived). Oh! And no Chichi either. She's happy being a princess that knows how to fight to protect her kingdom, but she doesn't follow Goku to the tournament and all.

Since Goku knows about the Saiyans and has met them and all, she trains a lot and gets a lot stronger. She's like thrice as powerful as in the original manga/anime.

Raditz arrives and finds his tailless little sister. She still does not remember him, but she can talk Saiyago. They have a heated discussion, he wants her to join the crew of Saiyans and breed with the prince. She, of course, refuses, because she's not genocidal AND NOONE tells her what to do.

A fight ensues, but, of course, since Goku is stronger, Raditz has no chance and has to surrender. This time, there's no tail pulling, because it's super disrespectful and cowardly and Goku knows better (a Saiyan HC, lol). Raditz does not die here.

During the year it takes Veggie and Nappa to arrive, the siblings bond and train. No Kaioken or Genki Dama, but Goku gets stronger and learns Raditz's moveset (she does not use it herself). She also learns about her parents and realizes she has MET her mother in the Pendulum room. She brings Raditz with her on Kami's Lookout and demands they go back so that her brother can meet Gine again. It's super emotional and a pivotal moment for both siblings.

Saiyan fight. Since Goku and Raditz go against Veggie and Nappa, it's more brutal, the Saibamen are destroyed quickly, Nappa is taken care of quickly, but then Veggie kills the Earthlings when Goku is incapacitated. She's MAD. There's a moment where she's kind of SS, but not really (think the Slug film). Veggie is done for, but he survives, since Goku still was crushed.

Veggie flees.

When they are healing, Raditz talks about Namek and states that Vegeta is definitely going there next for his ego trip wish. He helps Bulma with the construction of the ship and all the alien technology, since he's tech-savvy (quite rare for a Saiyan warrior, but he literally does not trust anyone aside from his brethren, and even then, these last few years, not even them anymore).

Namek debacle, but Veggie tries to woo Goku instead of being a prick, but she does not want to know anything about it (he freaking killed her friends, and she's kind of reluctant to forgive him yet).

Frieza happens, he kills Vegeta, he kills Krillin, and he nearly kills Raditz. Goku goes SS, she's raging mad and pummels the heck out of the lizard. She does not give him energy (in my HC, you DO NOT cross female Saiyans. When they are close to somebody, they are extra protective and extra ruthless if you hurt them. No pity. NONE. Male Saiyans are rightfully weary of crossing their females, which also explains why Goku and Vegeta listen so carefully to their wives: survival instinct. Lol).

Goku still stays on Yardrat for a year, because she needs to control her new transformation, and she's currently a danger to everyone.

Future Trunks! But he's not alone. There's a girl with him that's one year older. She does not tell Goku who she is.

Instead of just keeping the heart medicine, Goku gives it to Bulma so that she can analyze it and recreate it to save people who might have died otherwise.

No Gohan training, no family, so Goku goes all-in in her training. She contracts the heart virus earlier in this and gets treated.

Willow happens, Slug happens, Turles happens. Not one of them has any chance. Turles is spared and joins - very reluctantly - the gang.

Grandpa Gohan's house gets a bit cramped with three full grown Saiyans, but Raditz moves out after a few months, because he and Lunch have decided to live together.

Cooler happens and is dealt with super easily, again.

Lunch is pregnant. It's a girl, called Chizu. Goku realizes she's the girl from the future and she and Raditz are glad she survived.

Android time! Cyborg time! Cell time! Vegeta still lets his pride get in his way and lets Cell get "perfect". Trunks is mad. Chizu lets her anger get the better of her and throws fists with Vegeta. They're both hurt. Turles doesn't involve himself. He doesn't really care about the machines, though he has an escape plan ready when he feels Cell's perfect form.

Goku and Raditz come out of the Room of Spirit and Time, both Super Saiyans (no SS2 yet, though, but they're powerful). They have 10 days until the Cell games. Goku wants to chill and enjoy life a bit (and annoy Turles, because she finds it fun), Raditz trains one more day in the RSP.

Meta-Cooler happens, but with 4 Super Saiyans, it's easier than in the OG film. Turles does not come because he's not interested in New Namek.

It's legendary super saiyan time! In this, Goku and Broly were not side by side in the nursery; Gine kept Goku in a pod at home when she was born, so there is no weird fixation and triggering of Broly with Kakarot.

The picnic happens (sans Turles, who fled when Krillin breathed his first note. No thanks, he's a sadist, not a masochist), Paragus arrives, sees Goku and reaaaaally wants her to bang his son, lol. When they arrive on New Vegeta, he pushes her towards Broly, who's intrigued at the female Saiyan. Raditz annoys her with the fact (like any good sibling, lol) and they banter. A LOT. Which annoys the heck out of Vegeta, which makes them both very happy.

Goku, Raditz, Vegeta and Broly go to "track" the legendary saiyan while the rest of the crew investigates the planet.

Goku, ever the lovable extraverted and friendly puppy that she is, tries to strike a conversation with Broly during the travelling, which flusters him (he's soooo not used to people actually WANTING to interact with him and he's 1000000% an awkward introvert that lacks social skills in base form) and it, again, prompts Raditz to make an annoyance out of himself.

Broly is also super confused of how Raditz and Kakarot are able to maintain thair Super Saiyan state and act without hightened violence. He shyly asks about it and Kakarot just responds: "Lots of training!". He's kind of in awe. He's wondering if he could, one day, acheive some kind of control over himself, but he has little hope. If his dad's training didn't help, how could Kakarot's?

They find nothing on the planets they have explored and go back to base to finally eat (of course Goku is starving). But, surprise, Broly seems to be a small eater for a Saiyan (a HC I have when he's under the mind control. Why? because it would explain him being skinnier than the average saiyan. I mean, he's still HUGE and muscly, but very very lean) and she's very concerned™️. Again, Broly is flustered. Paragus is satisfied, Vegeta is annoyed (but he accepted it, plus Bulma is better for him anyways) and Raditz is amused.

Broly finds it really weird how sweet and amicable Kakarot is to him and he kind of flees, because he feels too many things and he does not want to get overwhelmed.

The gang has a meeting about the weirdness of the planet. Goku is not amused. Raditz tries to explain that it's normal for Saiyans, but still, Goku is NOT amused.

The next day, they confront Paragus. Goku is very annoyed, Vegeta laughs in her face, which annoys Broly, who's already feeling over-stimulated with all the people and the noise.

He grasps at his head in pain and Goku sees it. She tries to confort him but the noise (Trunks is fighting with his father) is getting to him and his power begins to leak. Goku feels it and freezes. She recognizes it. It's the same as on that planet (shoot I can't remember the name) where there was leftover energy. She shakes her head and ITs Broly to a calmer part of the planet.

Broly is very confused, but also very grateful, but it does not last long when he sees Kakarot's expression of disappointment and weariness. He thanks her softly and asks her what's wrong. She tells him that she knows it's him, he's the one who destroyed those planets.

It kind of hurts Broly because he liked her being friendly with him. He puts more distance between them and looks away. He can't deny it, can he? So he tells her his story. How he was born with a very high power level, how the king tried to kill him, kill his father, how Frieza's supernova attack awakened his latent potential as the legend from his people. But it was too much for his body and mind. He's too unstable. He hurt his father. He couldn't control himself. And his father tried and tried and tried, but he failed, and each time he became more bitter. So when Broly destroyed yet another planet in one of his rages, Paragus created a device to control him. It's not perfect, but it helped.

Goku feels for him, but she's wondering why they still destroyed planets like this, if he had that device. Broly tells her his dad had a plan to lure Vegeta here and kill him for his father's transgressions among other things, and the fact he could never completely control Broly's temper, so that helped both. Goku is annoyed at the plan, but she also sees the comet that grows bigger in the heavens. She asks Broly about it, but he's confused. He does not know all of his father's plan.

The crew and Paragus are still bickering when Goku comes back, but, sternly, she powers up (she's all super saiyan already, keeping continuity, lol) and destroys the comet (always found that dumb). Then, she crosses her arms and tells Paragus to liberate the Shamoians and get his act together, then invites him and his son to Earth, though she tells them there's a threat (aka Cell). Both father and son accept. When it's done, Goku takes them to a more private place and scolds Paragus, then tells him to remove the controlling device, but both Paragus and Broly are scared of the prospect. Goku relents. For now.

The shamoians go back to their planet, and the Saiyans &co go back on Earth. Grandpa Gohan's house is DEFINITELY too small for 4 adult saiyans. Plus Broly is too big for the futons. Goku conceds that it might be time to expand the house or build a new one. She's not happy about it. For once, Turles is helpful and gives her ideas of how to keep the architecture of the original home but make it into a bigger house for the four of them and Goku is very touched and very happy that all three males want to stay with her (she'll never admit it to anyone, but even though she loves to go on adventures, she craves companionship, and, for whatever reason, living with other Saiyans feels right). She gives all three of them big hugs. Turles acts like he's annoyed, Paragus is surprised and Broly is super flustered. Then, the four Saiyans turn Grandpa Gohan's little house into a small mansion (in case any other Saiyans find their way to Earth... or something *wink wink*).

Cell happens. But this time, there are a few more Saiyans. Goku does not throw the fight and goes until she can't anymore, and then, when Cell has her on the ropes (though the difference in power level is smaller because Goku was stronger, since no Gohan + Raditz + she knew about Saiyans earlier), Broly transforms into his restrained SS form (his friend is hurt! He does not like it at ALL) and destroys the heck out of Cell. Everyone is surprised. Vegeta is pissed, because he finally knows what's up and he tries to kill Paragus but is stopped by Broly, who's ready to pummel him to hell. Fortunately, Kakarot intervenes. She gets between the males and softly talks to Broly to get him to calm down. It works (and damn Paragus is impressed) and Goku even gets a small grateful smile out of it and her heart does something weird and her face heats up and Raditz SAW it and begins to guffaw. Goku is annoyed at her brother, but she decides to ignore him and gets healed up (aaaah senzu beans, so convenient).

Then the crew goes to the Lookout to summon Shenron and get people brought back to life. Turles is greedy, Paragus too, but one look from 4 Saiyans (Trunks, Chizu, Goku and Raditz), shut them up quickly. Broly is entranced. Goku decides it's time to lose SS and goes back to base. When he sees her base form for the first time and her sooooo very sunny smile, Broly is a blubbering mess.

The cyborg twins still get their bombs removed and C16 is freaking ALIVE!!!!!!! He goes on to help the Brief family to care for their many pets and leads a peaceful, non-fighting life, like he deserves.

No Bojack because no Kai planet was destroyed in this timeline.

Seven year skip (not really, though, because I wanna have all the peace times slice of life content with Broly learning to control himself, all the romance, how Krillin and C18 got together, C16 content, how Paragus, Turles, Broly and Goku deal with their new roommates, how the Saiyan boys change for the better and all that good stuff) and there are 4 (FOUR) kids with Saiyan blood. Chizu, Trunks, Bardock and Koli, from oldest to youngest (can you guess who are Bardy's and Koli's parents? A virtual Cookie if you get it right before I tell you hehehe. A hint: Bardy looks like his granddad but has bluish hair and Koli's hair is kind of long but a bit wild on front, it's also the purest black).

Shin comes to Earth still for the Buu stuff, and instead of being all weird and mysterious, he directly asks Goku and her roommates for help and talks about the tournament. Goku is excited to participate, but Paragus thinks the plan is dumb. There's a Z-fighters and Saiyan meeting when they're an route to the tournament, and all the smart members know the plan is bad, so they create a new one. Instead of having someone as bait and letting Babidi's minions take energy that could revive Buu, they'll interrogate the minions. Since Piccolo is strong at telepathy and Shin is a freaking god, they'll just enter their minds and look for the location of Buu's resting place (and look for intel on Babidi's plans).

It works! Dabra is dealt with, Babidi is dealt with and Buu is not released. Shin is kind of ashamed of the fact he needed mortals to come with this and apologizes.

As for the Budokai, the kids have a lot of fun, and the adults too (they go hunt for Buu after the thing is done). The winner of the junior championship is Chizu, because no child dared to cheat (because the chaotic duo is actually a quatuor here and Chizu is quite serious and they don't want to make her mad).

Hercule Satan is booted from the tournament in the second round (he still got blackmailed by Videl), but he later claims he was feeling really really under the weather and even fakes it (and everyone buys it). Videl, herself, still gets beaten to a pulp, but she's less stubborn about it because she doesn't use ki stuff.She's out of commission for a few weeks.

Of course, Broly didn't participate (he was scared of losing control, even if they didn't use ki for entertainment sake), so the final battle opposed Goku and Vegeta. Vegeta won the tournament by a teeny tiny margin (he fell from the premisse a fraction of a second after Goku) and is very annoying about it.

No Broly returns, no bio-Broly, no Janemba (sad).

A few months after the tournament, a weird guy asks Goku to open a music box. Yes, you know it! It's Tapion time! Tapion is still mad to be let free, and Trunks is still very taken with the hero.

When (half of) Hildergarn appears, Goku is feeling weird. It's been a few weeks that she's felt kind of tired and achy, but she ignores it and tries to fight the monster. However, she's hurt before Tapion's ocarina makes the monster disappear.

Goku is healed by Dende, who realizes that... she has another life in her? (Earth still confuses him, honestly). YUP. GOKU is PREGGERS. And, yep, the father is Brocoli boy. Who is very worried about his mate's and unborn child's health and mad that Kakarot would put herself in danger when she's like this. But she didn't know that she was pregnant yet, so yeah. Since the announcement is made with a few people around (the children and the other Saiyans sans Veggie who's on a holiday - aka training far from eveyrone, lol), congratulations are given and Kori is overjoyed at becoming an older sister (YUP! She was born nearly two years after Cell, and Bardy was born in December of 767).

Goku is out of the fight, but she still tries to help where she can. Mostly, she asks the kids to help her protect, help and save the civilians that are in danger when Hildegarn is whole and attacks in the middle of the night, waking up everyone (they were having a sleepover at Capsule Corp.). Contrary to the original, no dragon attack, but a Legendary Super Saiyan who goes Legendary because he's very mad at the monster. Hildergan stands no (0. ZERO) chance against the legendary's might.

Luckily, throughout the years, Broly has learnt how to control himself... somewhat. He's still a sadistic fighter when transformed, but he can be calmed by lots of pets to his hair or tail (only Kakarot and Koli though) or cuddles from Kakarot (because he loves his mate soooo very much. Like head over heels even in legendary - though he's also too horny in that form, LOL). So he calms down, and they go to eat because everyone is hungry, and then the kids are put to bed because it's way past their bedtimes and they shouldn't be awake so late.

Goku gives birth to twins! Shoyu (boy) who looks a lot like Broly and Azuki (girl) who has a bit more of her mom.

The next year, Tarble comes to Earth with his mate, Gure, to ask Veggie's help to deal with Abo and Cado. Everyone is shocked that Vegeta has a brother or that Tarble is alive (Raditz and Vegeta, lol). Since their planet was destroyed, they live on Earth (at Capsule Corp.). Gure is not compatible with Saiyans biologically, so they don't have children (or intimate relations, since procreation works differently for Gure's no longer existing race). Gure also has a shorter lifespan, so she encourages Tarble to try to find a new mate.

Everyone is happy. There is no more threat. (yeah, won't go into DBGT here since I've not watched it in a LONG time, I don't remember most of the things outside of loving SS4, and I think the plot might be a mess?)

WELL. I didn't think it would be so long, but here we are I guess. It's more thorough and lengthy than I thought I would go (wow, more than 4000 words. If only I could do that for my WIPs 😭). ANd it took me nearly two hours to write all my ideas down, LOL.

Hope someone liked it still. At least I'm feeling better now, so yay!

Possible Future World Scenario

By 2050, earth’s citizens are spending most their time in artificial environments, affecting their quality of life and enhancing stress levels. A new generation of youth called ‘the star children’ are frustrated by the lack of entertainment and face-to-face interaction between their peers. In need of a cultural shift, the ‘star children’ have created an annual ocean music festival held in an underwater infrastructure. It aims to promote social interaction and interaction with underwater life. The event's purpose is to provide the ideal festival experience based on three core values: change is inevitable, joy is ephemeral, and we should always live in the moment. (Everfest, 2017)

Introduction

With a theme of ‘future worlds’ this semester, this project is based on the research of ‘Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth 2050’ by Buckminster Fuller (1968). The manual can be seen as a metaphor and compares planet earth to a machine. The University of Southern California imagines Spaceship Earth 2050 as “a future world where the earth is a spaceship made of 70% water, roughly the size of the moon, a shared vehicle with finite and regenerative resources” (University of Southern California, 2017). The University of Southern California (USC) invited COLAB students to participate and collaborate on a future story-world comprised of interconnected systems. Using their category of culture and festivals, I chose to design a concept for an underwater art installation.

The world’s population has more than doubled in the last forty-five years to seven billion (Bongaarts, 2009). Despite this, younger generations feel more alone, uncertain and disconnected than ever before. ‘Ripples’ uses a speculative design approach based on the values of societal change, sustainability, and shared experience. Dunne and Raby (2013) explain that “design speculations can act as a catalyst for collectively redefining our relationship to reality” (Dunne and Raby, 2013, p. 8). Exploring themes around liminal spaces within the physical and metaphysical realm, the project hopes to enhance mindfulness aspects of the festival experience. Furthermore, the authors state people work where work is available, travel to study and live away from their families. As we channel energy into making friends around the world we no longer need to care about our immediate neighbors (Dunne and Raby, 2013, p. 8). As we have become a society of individuals, the project hopes to bring people together to inspire and aid positive social outcomes.  

Music Festival Culture

 Music festivals are a mega-trend in today’s society due to growing urban density population rates and the growing market for the ‘experience economy’ (Robertson et al., 2015, p. 579). A driving force behind this is the need for individuals to create their own identities and increasing freedom to shape personality. Such experiences become a source of personal information for stories people tell about their lives (Mehmetoglu & Engen, 2011). Engagement with new and virtual landscapes and with the enhanced sensory feelings and imaginations that technologies can offer may enhance the overall experience by adding relevance and meaning to the attendee (Robertson et al., 2015, p. 567). Throughout history, technology has bridged the gap between reality and science fiction. Technologies within festival environments have the potential to facilitate liminal space, allowing for new cultural identities to emerge (Robertson et al., 2015, p. 581). Author and theologian Richard Rohr describes liminal space as the places “where we are betwixt and between the familiar and the completely unknown” (Threelevers, 2017).

Synergy & sustainability

 Based on the principle of Synergy - "Synergy is the only word in our language meaning behavior of wholes unpredicted by the behaviour of their parts". Fuller (1968) explains that the “Universe is synergetic. Life is synergetic” (Fuller, 1968, p. 23), everything is connected and one action can create a ripple effect. Here, he is referring to a need for humans to be in symbiosis with nature in order for human race’s survival on earth. This directly correlates with our impact on global warming as a collective whole, reflecting society’s perspectives in failing to realize the implications that actions, no matter how small can have on the entire world. Fuller's (1968) observations of society conclude that people do “not think there are behaviors of whole systems unpredicted by their separate parts” (Fuller, 1968, p. 22).

 Social engagement & shared experience

Within the consumer mindset, the trend of time sensitivity encourages us to eliminate “dead” time and use all moments of the day for constructive or rewarding activity (Yeoman, 2008). What results is the consumer’s desire for greater efficiency and convenience —something that has been coined the culture of immediacy (Kleijnen, Ruytor, & Wetzels, 2007). The success of future festivals will depend on the intellectual and emotional depth of the participant along with their type of involvement. Everfest Magazine (2017) reports that “Humans have been converging for shared, communal experiences for as long as we have been humans. This social nature is a defining trait of our psychology, hardwired into our instincts and the driving force behind much of human societal development (Everfest, 2017). Themes of interest include the juxtaposition of living in a connected world within a disconnected era and the implications this may have for a future society.

Conceptual Statement

Goals before the semester

The purpose of this assignment was to imagine future worlds for a better future. An important aspect of this semester was to successfully complete all personal goals as I wanted to focus on my development of skills and learning experience.

 Personal goals at the beginning of this semester included: 

Successfully complete my first solo project to a professional standard within the scope  of a potential future career. The main goal was to complete a sculpture or installation that could be pitched to event or festival organizers in the industry.

Develop tactile knowledge, learn more practical skills related to sculptural installation design and textile manipulation processes. This is the area I would like to specialize in after completing my degree. Use of elective     papers to guide my studio project. I have always been a tactile, hands-on     learner so I wanted the techniques displayed within my project to reflect     my identity as a creative technologist.    

Creative experimentation and complete freedom as the central element of my finished outcome. Most of the time I am too focused on achieving perfection which tends to hinder progress. Embracing mistakes and allowing the process to dictate the final outcome held importance and relevance for my personal development.

Aim of project

The aim of my project was to employ explorative methods, techniques and approaches to create an immersive installation. Through research and from personal experience at festivals, ‘chill zones’ are places designed for festival-goers to wind down and relax. As my previous studio project was projection-related, I wanted to expand on the initial concept to communicate levels of deeper engagement.

 Meaning behind physical concept

 The concept behind the design of the installation investigates ideas around permeance in a physical and metaphysical space. Fuller argues that each experience begins and ends, therefore, is finite (Fuller, 1968). Therefore, the “universe as experientially defined, including both the physical and metaphysical, is finite” (Fuller, 1968, pp. 19, 20). Through asking questions such as what kind of immersive experience might the future offer? and brainstorming potential future worlds, I moved on to immersive environments within the physical domain, as opposed to virtual. In an interview with Hyun Jean Lee, the artist gives insights into “the screen, as a boundary object, is a conceptual realm. It simultaneously contains diverse times and spaces in it. Therefore, the screen becomes a psychological and philosophical domain” (Generactive, 2017). Virtual reality will play an important role in the future world of emerging technologies. Through the construction of my sculpture, I wanted to place importance on staying grounded and having a ‘synergetic’ balance between both physical and metaphysical realities.

The final outcome is an immersive video installation projected onto transparent screen-printed fabrics with matching audio (Video edited using Premiere Pro and After Effects). A play on light, shadows, repetition and layers for a ‘3D surreal dream trip’ quality. The organic wave pattern displayed as the main feature is an important motif about the healing properties of nature.  The film also re-iterates these values - a tribute to the important role nature has to play in our daily lives.

Meaning behind video content

Utilizing technology and experimental textiles, I wanted to enhance the immersive nature of these spaces for a heightened experience. After speculating upon multiple possible futures, I chose to focus on re-creating a narrative centered on earth’s creation that unfolds in phases. The interpretation of this dialogue will vary depending on the viewer’s personal experience. Each person will have their own memories associated with nature. Through the scale of the work, I wanted the viewer to feel insignificant in comparison and create a sense of awe. De Botton (2005) adds that landscapes reduce anxiety as they represent infinite space and time to make individuals feel small in comparison (De Botton, 2005).

 Liminal Spaces

 Victor Turner defines liminality as a transitional stage of ‘inbetween’ normal conditions present in many cultural or sacred traditions and rituals throughout human history (Andrews & Roberts, 2012). It is the place where all transformation takes place, as liminality has an ambiguous nature and could represent a period or space. Liminal Spaces represents thresholds of a place that enters or begins (Andrews & Roberts, 2012). Audio has been selected and carefully arranged to portray such transitional periods. The final effect is a mixture of physical processes to create a liminal, metaphysical realm. The multiple layers are not only physical filters but reflects how a change in one aspect of life will always intersect and intertwine with all other areas one way or another. Belonging, according to Maslow (1954) is a primal need, so natural instincts will lead you to create another life for yourself. If our liminal spaces are approached boldly with intentionality and with community, there is a better and more confident future to come.

 Developments to concept

Initial inspirations stemmed from research on sensory deprivation tanks and anxious millennials. The original idea was to create an ‘escape pod’ or private place for festival goers to relax. However, I struggled with understanding the concept of ‘future worlds’ – millennials will not even exist 50 years from now. After a few collaborative Skype sessions with Joe from the University of Southern California and feedback discussions with Pete, I was challenged to think more critically. After some deliberation, I redirected my research and envisioned possible future world scenarios. After researching the effects of global warming, I chose to create a public installation space based on liminal space and shared experience.

Process & techniques used

In terms of construction, I wanted to question current methods of conceptual design within the context of projection mapping. Each week I completed a workshop in the printmaking facility to push my personal boundaries as a creative technologist and enhance my skill set. Fabric finishing was surprisingly the most difficult element of this project due to the precision needed and the unstable nature of fabrics. Instead of utilizing traditional digital methods, I wanted to challenge myself to incorporate unusual or organic forms such as textiles and surface manipulation techniques to physically distort perspectives, scale, and alter the image in a tangible way. I wanted to create a relationship between the digital image and physical screen to embrace social inclusion which corresponds with Spaceship Fuller 2050’s ideas on connected systems.

 Personal Reflection

Sculptural installation is the field I enjoy working in most and is the truest reflection of myself as a creative technologist. Due to the solo nature of my project, limiting the technical scope was crucial in defining time constraints. If I were to collaborate in the future, I would assign the technical functionality role to another person whilst personally taking responsibility for construction design and the project management role. However, attempting a solo project challenged me to take complete responsibility for time management and complete creative direction. I am confident to have successfully achieved all three personal goals this semester. These include designing and constructing a completed sculpture, mastering six different practical skills related to experimental surfaces and textile manipulation (Mono-print, Collagraph, Screen-printing, Clay and Procast, Latex, Foiling, Marbling, Transfer inks and combinations of processes). This explorative approach helped me embrace mistakes and incorporate this process into the final outcome. Prototyping and researching for the first half of the project were useful as it allowed time to retain information and skills learned.

Okay so I checked...Garcia is a ‘77 baby where my darling Reid is an ‘81 boy. As we know, Garcia’s parents died when she was 18 years old so she had probably just started at Cal Tech. So mathematically speaking they might have been at the same school momentarily, but she dropped out soon after the death of her parents. That said, just because they were in the same school doesn’t mean that they knew or would recognize each other. Reid also has PHDs in Mathematics, Engeneering and Physics and BAs in Psychology, Sociology and Philosophy all fields that I highly doubt Penelope would be interested in. She was most likely studying Computer Sciences. That’s my long winded way of saying they probably wouldn’t have known each other.

I just saw the ep where garcia got shot and she said she dropped out of Cal Tech, and im dumb do the math add up so garcia and reid could have go together to college? Imagineeee how wholesome if these two would have meet there? Quality content of goth Garcia and baby reid 🥺

I think she was anywhere from 4-5 years older than him if I’m not mistaken? So I don’t think so but that would’ve been AWESOME.
