The Untamed - Episode 19
Throughout the night, he [Jiang Cheng] had somehow managed to sleep a couple of times. The first reason was that, having been too tired from crying himself weak, he couldn't help from passing out. The second reason was that he still had the hope that this might be a nightmare. He couldn't wait to wake up after some rest and open his eyes to find himself lying inside of his room back in Lotus Pier. His father would be wiping his sword in the main hall. His mother would be angry again and complaining, scolding Wei Wuxian who winked in a funny way. His sister would be in the kitchen, thinking as hard as she could about what to make today. His shidi would be refusing to do their morning lessons properly and jumping around.

Fandom Gripe #22: I wish the novel fandom would stop ascribing to Jiang Cheng things that he did not do (at least not alone) to make his character seem like some outstanding model citizen who pulled himself up by his bootstraps instead of the rotten product of wealth and nepotism that he is.
No, Jiang Cheng did not rebuild Lotus Pier on his own. In fact, Lotus Pier didn't need to be rebuilt at all because it was never destroyed. Wen Chao was using it as his supervision office, which is why Wang Lingjiao showed up in the first place:
Wang LingJiao spoke in a tender voice, “Young Master Wen, congratulations for moving into Lotus Pier.” Wen Chao, “What Lotus Pier? Change the name. Bring down any door carved with the nine-petaled lotus crest and replace them with those with the QishanWen Sect’s sun crest! JiaoJiao, come dance for me your best song!”
—Chapt. 59: Poisons, exr
If anything, any "rebuilding" that was done happened after Wei Wuxian defected, as Jiang Cheng remade Lotus Pier to be more extravagant than it originally was:
It was perhaps because too many places had been renewed. The training field was two times larger. Each new building seemed to be taller than the previous, adorned with curving roof decor. It seemed grander than before and had more splendor. But, compared to the Lotus Pier of his memories, it had changed too much. Wei WuXian felt a sense of loss from deep within. He didn’t know whether the old buildings from the past were blocked behind these impressive new buildings or if they were torn down already.
—Chapt. 85: Loyalty, exr
No, Jiang Cheng did not recruit new disciples on his own. He was recruiting on his own during the war for the 3 months that Wei Wuxian had been trapped in the Burial Mounds, as per Wang Lingjiao's musings:
...leaving only Jiang Cheng, who was younger than even Lan XiChen and was still a child born yesterday, who had nobody in his hands but still dared call himself sect leader, holding up the banner of rebellion as he recruited new disciples.
—Chapt. 60: Poisons, exr
But after Wei Wuxian returned, Wei Wuxian had a large hand in disciple recruitment, specifically because of the interest his ghost path garnered amongst cultivators at banquets where they were recruiting, such as the Phoenix Mountain Hunt:
One of the sect leaders spoke in a sour tone, “This time, Lotus Pier is really the center of the show. Almost all of the spirits and corpses were summoned to the YunmengJiang Sect’s grounds. There’d definitely be a number of cultivators interested in them.” ... Someone sneered, “Huh? Interested in them? I don’t think so. To put it simply, they’re interested in Wei WuXian, aren’t they? Didn’t the YunmengJiang Sect grow in fame during the Sunshot Campaign only because of Wei WuXian?”
—Chapt. 70: Departure, exr
Despite the above quote being gossip from jealous cultivators, we know this to be true because after Wei Wuxian defects, cultivators begin to flock to the Burial Mounds to ask to be his disciples, still:
After he found himself in the limelight during a few night-hunts, there really were quite a few people who came for him, hoping that they could be accepted by the ‘patriarch’ and become one of his disciples. The mountains that used to be so deserted suddenly became crowded. None of the fierce corpses Wei WuXian set up on patrol down the mountain would attack on their own. At most, they’d send the person flying and roar their throats out. Nobody got hurt, and so more and more people gathered down Burial Mound.
—Chapt. 75: Distance, exr
No, Jiang Cheng did not raise Jin Ling on his own. First off, Jin Ling is the heir to the Jin Clan, so him being raised wholly by Jiang Cheng would make absolutely no sense. Which is why nowhere does the novel say this happens; Jin Ling spends his time split between Lanling and Lotus Pier:
When Jin Ling was young, he was brought up by two sects. He lived at the LanlingJin Sect’s Jinlin Tower half the time, and the YunmengJiang Sect’s Lotus Pier the other half, so he should be carrying belongings from both sects.
—Chapt. 38: Grasses, exr
(However—and this is just my conjecture—I doubt the overtly homophobic and sexist Jiang Cheng would personally go about changing the diapers of a child who only knew him to be merciless and cold:
From the beginning of his memory until now, Jin Ling had never seen such a look on Jiang Cheng’s face before. This uncle of his who led the prominent YunmengJiang Sect ever since a young age had always been cold and dark. When he spoke, he was willing to neither show mercy nor do good.
—Chapt. 23: Malice, exr
Rich people have servants for a reason.)
No, Jiang Cheng does not spend his time helping the people of Yunmeng. He really does spend a good deal of his time fobbing off his duty to the people (not unusual for a large sect) in favor of hunting down and torturing people (very unusual, the reason why his citizens prefer to pray to gods) who either had the surname Wen or that he suspected of either being possessed by Wei Wuxian because they remind him of the latter, which extends to people who use his inventions:
Jiang Cheng spoke grimly, “Break his legs? Haven’t I told you? If you see this sort of evil and crooked practice, kill the cultivator and feed him to your dogs!”
—Chapt. 7: Arrogance, exr
Zidian definitely wouldn’t deceive [Jiang Cheng] or make a mistake, so he quickly calmed himself and thought, this doesn’t mean anything. I should first find an excuse to take him back and use every possible method to get information out of him. It’s impossible for him to not confess anything or give himself away. I’ve done things like this in the past anyways. After thinking it through, he made a gesture. The disciples understood his intention and came over.
—Chapt. 10: Arrogance, exr
The owner, “Young Masters, you’re not from Yunping City so you don’t know. The Jiang Sect is responsible for all of us along the Yunmeng area. The Sect Leader’s got quite a bad temper. It’s almost frightening. His subordinate’s said so a long time ago. Only one sect is in charge of such a large area. Each day, there are almost a hundred cases of small ghosts or other creatures pulling pranks on the living and all that. If every single small thing had to be dealt with immediately, would there be enough time and energy? Those that don’t kill anyone aren’t malign spirits, and we’re not supposed to disturb them with trivial matters that aren’t malign spirits.” She complained, “What is this supposed to mean? Wouldn’t it be too late if we waited until somebody’s died to find them?!” ... The owner continued, “On top of that, Lotus Pier is truly a scary place. How would anyone dare go there again?” Wei WuXian moved his gaze from Lan WangJi’s calm face with a short pause of surprise, “Lotus Pier is scary? How could Lotus Pier be scary? You’ve been there?” The owner, “I haven’t been there myself, but I know someone who went because his house was being badly haunted. But it was all bad luck. That Sect Leader Jiang was cracking a glowing whip right on the training field. The victim’s flesh and blood flew as high as his screams! A servant secretly informed him that the sect leader caught the wrong person again, that he hadn’t been in a great mood, and that he definitely shouldn’t be irritated in any way. He was so scared that he dropped off the gifts he brought and fled at once. He never dared visit again.” Wei WuXian had long since heard of how Jiang Cheng had been searching for cultivators of the ghost path who seemed like they seized another’s body, taking all of them into Lotus Pier to be tortured and questioned. The owner’s friend probably just happened to have ran into him when he was letting off steam. It wasn’t hard to imagine how hideous Jiang Cheng would’ve looked, so no wonder a normal person would make a run for it. ... The owner, “No, no. It was his misfortune. The person’s surname was Wen, and that Sect Leader Jiang’s archenemy happened to have the surname of Wen as well. He’s hating on everyone in this world whose surname is Wen. Whenever he sees one, he’d grind his teeth in hatred, wanting to skin them alive. How could he give a single friendly look to...”
—Chapt. 92: Longing, exr
The time he isn't spending hunting down people to torture, he uses to trail after Jin Ling on nighthunts to make sure nothing happens to him.
Wei WuXian, “Huh? Jiang Cheng? How did you run into him while night-hunting?” Lan SiZhui, “We invited Young Master Jin to join our night- hunt last time, so...” Wei WuXian immediately understood. One could even guess that while Lan SiZhui led the group in the night-hunt, Wen Ning naturally wouldn’t be idle either. He must’ve followed them in the dark to protect them, so that he could provide assistance when they encounter danger during the night-hunt. Jiang Cheng must’ve been sneaking behind Jin Ling as well, scared something would happen to him again.
—Chapt. 116: Banquet Extra, exr

First Look: The Ford Mustang GT California Special
Standing out on the road has been a hallmark of the Mustang for 59 years. And now, as Mustang prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary, Ford is putting a modernspin on the California Special.
The California Special package features Rave Blue details. The signature color appears on the nostril intakes, which flank a new horizontal-slat grille complete with low gloss black strakes. The headlights are surrounded by black bezels while Mustang GT California Special-specific graphics in Medium Light Rave Blue and High- and Low-Gloss Black appear on the lower body sides.
The California Special package is available with two 19.0-inch wheel options. The standard Carbonized Gray wheels have a GT/CS pad-printed logo in Rave Blue, while the optional Performance Pack wheel combines a machined face with Rave Blue pockets. The 5.0-liter engine badge on the front fenders and the GT badge at the back add Rave Blue outlines to black centers – like the GT Performance Package, there is a Performance Pack-specific badge. The GT/CS badge in the grille is also finished in Rave Blue.
Blue accents are prominent throughout the California Special package’s interior, where perforated Navy Pier upholstery and Ebony Black leather covers the seats. Further elevating its style is dual-color contrast stitching with Raptor Blue and Metal Gray threads that extend to the dash and doors. The same stitching is also available for the steering wheel and center console. A California Special IP badge and GT/CS floor mats round out the interior changes.
The California Special package adds $1,995 to the price of a Mustang GT Premium and is available in Coupe and Convertible body styles with either the six-speed manual gearbox or the optional 10-speed automatic transmission.
The 2024 Mustang GT California Special makes its public debut on November 16 at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Case of Jiang Cheng's Canon Selective Amnesia
Jiang Cheng at MDZS chapter 59:
"Lan WangJi and Jin ZiXuan and those people can just die! Just let them die! What's their deaths got to do with us?! To do with our sect?! Why did this have to happen?! Why?!
"Go die, go die, go die! Everyone!!!"
And yet Jiang Cheng at MDZS chapter 87:
Jiang Cheng mocked, "Look how forgetful you are. What does unwelcome people mean? Then let me remind you. It was because you played the hero and saved Second Young Master Lan, who's standing beside you right now, that the entire Lotus Pier and my parents went down with you---, "
From blaming Jin Zixuan and Lan Wangji, into blaming Lan Wangji alone🙃🙃
Why?
Duh of course because Jin Zixuan has married his sister🥱
The so called sin of causing a sect to be exterminated can be erased as long as you marry the sister~
Oh. I Forgot to add the REAL thought of Jiang Cheng at MDZS chapter 59:
In his heart, Jiang Cheng knew clearly that back in the cave of the Xuanwu of Slaughter at Muxi Mountain, even if Wei WuXian hadn't saved Lan WangJi, the Wen Sect would have found some reason to come over sooner or later.
Dude knew perfectly why the massacre happened at all. Yet refuse to face reality. C'mon, call some psychologist here, a delusional patient who refuse to see reality may have been spotted.
In addition, the REAL people whom Wen Chao wanted to kill and thus were saved by Wei Wuxian in Xuanwu Cave were (MDZS ch 52):
Wen Chao was enraged, shouting, "How dare you! Kill them!"
A few of the Wen Sect's disciples unsheathed their swords, rushing toward Lan WangJi and Jin ZiXuan.
Yes. It is Lan Wangji and Jin Zixuan.
Not only Lan Wangji but also JIN FUCKINN ZIXUAN!
Alright, next:
Wen Chao looked as if his mood was much better. He spat, "Talking back to me, what did you think you are? People like you really do deserve to be killed."
Who talked back to Wen Chao?
Oh, let's look back a while ago:
Jin ZiXuan lifted his brows, "Is that enough? It wasn't enough for people to be flesh shields for you, and now you want live humans to bleed for you to use as bait?!"
Wei WuXian found this somewhat surprising, So Jin ZiXuan really does have some nerve.
Wen Chao pointed at them, "Are you rebelling against me? Let me warn you, I've been tolerating you for a very long time. Right now, hang the brat up with your own hands! Or else none of the people from your sects can expect to return!"
Jin ZiXuan sneered and refused to budge. Lan WangJi also looked as though he had heard nothing, so motionless that he seemed to be meditating.
Oh MY GOD! The one who angered Wen Chao first and talked back to him, it turned out it was Jin Zixuan all along!
That mighty Heir of the venerated LanlingJin, Jin Zixuan!
My my my...
To think that Jiang Cheng acted as if it was Lan Wangji solely who offended Wen Chao and needed to be saved... But the reality were...🧐🧐
The young and mighty Sandu Sengshou must have problem with hearing and seeing for him to think that the one Wei Wuxian saved is only Lan Wangji, right?
Or maybe Selective amnesia?
Oh!
It is because Jin Zixuan has married the Sister so the "so called sin" Got defaulted🙃
(All Excerpts are from ExRebel FanTrans)
***
JC (toxic ones) Stan: Listen to our babyCheng, Lan Wangji is the reason YunmengJiang got destroyed!
JC throughout the MDZS: It's me~! Hi~! I'm the problem, it's me~! (The one who has problem with hearing, seeing, delusional tendency, plus selective amnesia)

For the write a kiss prompts:
2. Goodnight for Majexatli x Karlach
59. For Sanrymic x Velzori
Goodnight — Majexatli /Karlach
Karlach should have been surprised to see a wolf curled up in her bed at the Elfsong, but the sight just made her smile. They looked rather cozy, she almost didn’t want to wake them. There wasn’t a point, though, even out of wildshape Majexatli’s hearing was too sensitive and it would be worse to sneak up on them. Even as Karlach tried to be silent as she set down her pack, she saw the wolf move, its eyes opening as it lifted his head.
For as much as she hadn’t been surprised to see a wolf in her bed, she was somewhat surprised that she didn’t end up tackled to the ground. Not too long ago, she could remember accidentally waking Majexatli and seeing them reach for their dagger before their eyes even opened. Most everyone at camp had learned quickly to be cautious with waking Majexatli, lest they end up with teeth or a dagger to the throat.
Yet now, here Karlach was, waking Majexatli only for them to simply yawn and blink at her sleepily.
“Sorry, baby, didn’t mean to wake you,” Karlach said, as she began to strip off her gear.
By the time she finished slipping into her nightclothes, the wolf on her bed was replaced with Majexatli, laying on their side, using their arm as a pillow. They were wearing the new clothes they had just gotten from the tailor. Wyll had insisted on the new clothes, something to replace the patchwork leather and rough fabric of the clothes they usually wore around camp. Their new shirt—half unbuttoned at the moment—almost perfectly matched their eyes, the fabric smooth and warm beneath Karlach’s fingers as she climbed into bed with them.
“I hope you don’t mind—” Majexatli started, but Karlach quickly cut them off.
“I could never be upset to find you in my bed,” Karlach smiled, wrapping an arm around them, “So long as you leave room for me, that is,”
“Always,”
Majexatli’s eyes were already drifting closed again as they pressed their forehead to hers, but before they slipped back into sleep, they inched forward just enough to meet Karlach’s lips in a slow kiss.
“Goodnight, Karlach,” Majexatli said, as they closed their eyes.
“Goodnight, baby,”
Out of love — Sanrymic/Velzori
This was really hard actually bcuz as of the latest session these bitches have been living together and undergone an evil gay apotheosis together and Velzori like swore an Oath of Devotion to Sanrymic and became a priest of the god of obsession bcuz of it. And these bitches STILL have never once talked about their feelings or admitted love for each other, they're still just like Damn We're Such Good Pals. Also, for context, you can read the typed up version of Sanrymic's dream sequence that happened in one of the sessions, which is referenced in this and this takes place after.
It was almost always a tavern where Sanrymic and Velzori would run into each other. Sometimes it was between adventures, when they were trying to relax before setting out again, sometimes it was during adventures, where they would have to sneak away from their party to get a few private moments together. It wasn’t unique to Velzori, most of Sanrymic’s flings were people they found in taverns. What was unique to Velzori, was the fact that it happened more than once.
Sanrymic wasn’t sure how they kept running into each other, for a while they thought maybe it was merely coincidence (a lie, Sanrymic didn’t believe in coincidence, everything was fated, divinely predetermined). They didn’t complain, though, there wasn’t any reason to. They were friends (something like that). Sanrymic had been wandering for so long (they were just home, they’ve never left, they can remember the smell of food frying in the market, the colorful lanterns and paper designs strung up in the streets, the smell of the sea at the pier), maybe it was just good to have something consistent.
Sanrymic’s heart fluttered as they saw her in the crowd of the tavern. It was the familiarity, the friendship, that made their mouth go dry and their mind fill with countless thoughts of her.
“Flint,” Velzori regarded them with a nod as she approached.
“Chaste,” Sanrymic nodded, unable to stop a faint smile from appearing on their face at the formality of her using their glint-chaser name.
“It’s been a long time,”
Velzori settled onto the stool next to them at the bar.
“Has it been?”
Sanrymic’s smile disappeared for a moment. They swore they had seen her just the other day, her visage fresh in their mind their skin still tingled from the touch of her hands.
“Many months, I was almost starting to get worried about you,”
Months… Sanrymic furrowed their brow, staring off into the distance. They had just spoken with her, they could remember, not clearly but they could remember—
The sound of crashing waves. The tell-tale wind of a tsunami. Water filling their lungs.
“I’m sure I could say the same about you, should I buy you a drink?”
“I shouldn’t, I’m supposed to be leaving with my party in the morning,”
“Then perhaps there’s something you’d like besides a drink…?”
Velzori hummed, “Hm, perhaps,”
Her eyes twinkled knowingly as Sanrymic stood and offered her their arm.
They had only just stepped into the hallway to Sanrymic’s room above the tavern when they pushed Velzori up against the wall, kissing them desperately. Velzori’s hand tangled in their hair while her other hand slipped under their tunic. Velzori pulled their head back to break the kiss, panting as she caught her breath.
“So impatient…” She clicked her tongue in faux disapproval, “What’s gotten into you, Sanrymic?”
Sanrymic opened their mouth to reply, but nothing came out.
“This is not the sort of purgatory you want to be trapped in. If that is what you want, then... I suppose that is what we shall have. And I will be here with you and we will die over and over again together.”
Her voice still rang in their ears, they could still taste the saltwater on their tongue and feel the cold embrace of death.
The pain of Velzori tightening her grip in their hair pulled them to the present.
“It’s been a while, like you said,” Sanrymic said, forcing a playful grin.
Velzori chuckled, “Then let’s get reacquainted, yes?”
Sanrymic nodded, quickly pulling her down the hall towards their room.

On May 13th 1912, nearly a month after the Titanic disaster, White Star Line streamer RMS Oceanic, during a westbound crossing had found Collapsible A adrift in the ocean near the Bermudas, which still contained the three bodies, in a rotting state. Oceanic crew members had reportedly tried to sink the raft with little to no success, they then towed it back to the ship, where they buried the bodies at sea, taking the raft itself to New York where it would be placed at Pier 59, along with the other lifeboats.
I understand that as word travelled through the ship that a lifeboat was sighted, passengers came out and gathered at the rails to see. As it became evident there were bodies in the boat, there were screams and fainting ladies that had to be taken inside and revived.

Cayenne
This instrumental is one of Paul's earliest compositions, and a modified version was included on Anthology 1. It’s credited to Paul alone, so it predates any Lennon/McCartney agreement.
It's a short, pleasant, guitar piece. It’s impressive really that Paul could compose something like this at such a young age, and teach it to his band mates. We can make out a basic but mostly competent bass line (played by Stu), a rhythm guitar (presumably John) and two more guitars (Paul and George).
In a couple of places one of the 6 string guitars mimics a bass-guitar sound (e.g. around 24 seconds in). We debated whether this was George or Paul. Paul could be getting frustrated with Stu’s bass line, or have included the sound in his composition before he showed it to his friends. Or maybe George was already doing something we would see him do much later during the Get Back sessions: filling in the space where he felt a bass line was needed (see the discussion about the bass line for Two Of Us).
According to the Anthology liner notes:
Cayenne is an instrumental composed by Paul McCartney. A good number of the earliest titles written by either Lennon or McCartney, or both, were instrumentals, written in the late 1950s when tunes without a lyric were prevalent.
There’s a Spanish sound to it, and we’re curious what inspired that. It makes us think of Besame Mucho and Hot As Sun (released on McCartney, but written in ‘58 or ‘59).
The entry for Cayenne on the Beatles Bible compares it to The Shadows, but doesn’t specify a song, and we don’t see the connection (we looked through a dozen or so Shadows songs. We did learn that Cliff Richards is gay in the process, though. See this interview with Piers Morgan, and this article).

Novel quotes: wei wuxian having feelings/thoughts about jiang cheng
Under the cut because it's long
However, Jiang Cheng was gone. Holding steamed buns, flatbreads, and fruits in his hands, Wei WuXian felt his heart skip a beat. He forced himself to calm down. Even after he searched through the neighboring streets, he still didn’t see Jiang Cheng. He finally began to panic. Grabbing a cobbler on the side, he asked, “Mister, there was a young master about the same age as me sitting here. Did you see where he went?” The cobbler licked the thick end of a thread, “The one that was with you?” Wei WuXian, “Yeah!”
The cobbler, “I was in the middle of doing something so I didn’t really see. But he kept on spacing out, staring at the people on the street. And then when I looked up at where he was again, he suddenly disappeared. Maybe he left.”
Wei WuXian murmured, “... He left... He left...”
He probably left for Lotus Pier to steal the bodies!
As though he had gone mad, Wei WuXian sprinted immediately toward the direction that they had come from.
[...]
He gave himself a harsh scolding in silence—he was stupid, useless, ridiculous, it was bizarre, unimaginable. Yet, he was alone, without a sword or any tools, and on the other side of the wall there were thousands of Wen Sect’s cultivators, perhaps Wen ZhuLie as well.
He wasn’t scared of death. He was only scared that after he died, he wouldn’t be able to save Jiang Cheng and betray the trust that Jiang FengMian and Madam Yu left him. In such circumstances, the only one he could place his hope on was a person of the Wen Sect whom he had met only three times in total!
[...]
Wei WuXian’s gaze turned from Wen Ning toward Jiang Cheng, whose body was covered in blood and eyes were tightly shut. His fingers couldn’t help but clenched into fists.
Chapter 59 Poisons—Part Four
Jiang Cheng’s expression was rather strange. It was calm, almost too calm. He stared at the ceiling, as though he wasn’t at all interested in the situation that he was in, as though he didn’t care about where he was either. Wei WuXian didn’t expect him to react in such a way. Sadness, happiness, anger, shock—he had none of these. His heart skipped a beat, “Jiang Cheng, can you see me? Can you hear me? Do you know who I am?” Jiang Cheng glanced at him. He didn’t say anything. Wei WuXian asked him a few more questions. Arm supporting himself, he finally sat upright. He looked down at the mark of the discipline whip on his chest before laughing bitterly. If the discipline whip struck, it’d be impossible to wipe away the mark of shame. Wei WuXian comforted him despite this, “Stop looking at it. There has to be a way to get it off.” Jiang Cheng slapped him. His strike was so weak, so powerless that Wei WuXian didn’t even flinch, “Hit me. As long as you’ll feel better.”
[...]
If Wei WuXian were the one injured or if somebody else had saved them, he’d immediately say farewell and leave at once, full of determination. However, right now, Jiang Cheng was the one who had been injured. Not only was he injured, he had lost his core as well. He wasn’t in his right mind. No matter what, Wei WuXian couldn’t find any determination.
Chapter 60 Poisons—Part five
Out of the blue, Jiang Cheng spoke up, “Not to do what?” Wei WuXian paused in surprise, turning to him along with Lan WangJi. Jiang Cheng covered his wound with one hand, his voice chilly, “Wei WuXian, you’re such a great, selfless person. You did the best things possible, and you swallowed all the suffering and didn’t let anyone know. What a touching story. I should kneel down and cry in gratitude, shouldn’t I?” Hearing the mocking tone that lacked any courtesy, Lan WangJi’s face grew cold. Jin Ling saw the displeased expression and immediately stood in front of Jiang Cheng, scared that Lan WangJi would kill him with one strike, “Uncle!” Wei WuXian’s expression worsened as well. He never expected Jiang Cheng to make up with him after he found out the truth, but he didn’t think his tone would be as unkind as ever, either. With a moment of silence, he replied, voice muffled, “I never asked you to thank me.”
[...]
In the beginning, it was precisely because he didn’t want to see such a Jiang Cheng that he decided not to tell him.
He remembered every single thing he promised Jiang FengMian and Madam Yu—to help and take care of Jiang Cheng. If someone as unhealthily competitive as him found out about this, he’d be dispirited his whole life, too tortured to face himself. There’d always be something he could never overcome, reminding him that he could only reach where he was because of another’s sacrifice. It wasn’t at all his cultivation and his achievement. No matter if he won or lost, he’d long since lost the right to compete.
Afterwards, it was because Jin ZiXuan and Jiang YanLi died for him that he had no face to let others know. To tell Jiang Cheng after what happened then would be like shirking responsibility, hurrying to demonstrate that he’d contributed as well. It’d be like telling Jiang Cheng, don’t hate me, look I’ve contributed to the YunmengJiang Sect too.
Chapter 102- Hatred - Part Five
At this point, somebody on the side suddenly called, “Wei WuXian!”
Wei WuXian answered immediately, “What?”
Only after he answered did he realize that the one who called him was Jiang Cheng. Wei WuXian felt somewhat surprised. Jiang Cheng didn’t respond directly. Instead, he took something out from his sleeve and tossed. Wei WuXian caught it by instinct and looked, only to find a black, gleaming flute along with a crimson tassel.
It was the ghoul flute, Chen Qing!
As he felt the flute that he was more than familiar with, Wei WuXian didn’t even have the spare time to feel surprised.
Chapter 108: Concealment - Part Two
After a pause, he asked again, “How have Sect Leader Jiang and Jin Ling been?”
Lan JingYi pouted, “They seem pretty fine. Sect Leader Jiang is the same as before, always lashing out at people with his whip. Young Mistress’s temper has been getting better. In the past he could talk back thrice to his uncle after he scolds him once. Now he can do ten times.”
[...]
Hearing Lan JingYi say so, Wei WuXian relaxed slightly. In truth, he knew that these weren’t what he really wanted to ask. But as it sounded like Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling had been doing quite well, there was nothing left to say.

HAPPY SUMMERWEEN!
This year, continuing the GF 10th Anniversary celebrations, I decided to do a kind of tribute to some of the show’s minor characters through the group’s Summerween costume choices!  I’d be surprised if you can’t guess all of these, but I’ll put the key below a read-more below.

Of course, it’s not just the 10th Anniversary of Gravity Falls -- it’s Stan and Ford’s birthday, as well! Despite that other project monopolizing my time, I didn’t want to miss doing a piece for this occasion.   So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our favorite grunkles!  Here, a return to Glass Shard Beach; and wearing their kid outfits, for good measure.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DIPPER & MABEL!
While the Star Twins are turning 23 this year (2022), this time I’m going back into the past for a birthday not too long after the show’s end.
I have always liked the idea of Stan and Ford taking the kids to see Glass Shard Beach.  (And this piece has another purpose that will be revealed in time.)  Here they’re enjoying the boardwalk and the Amusement Pier, playing some carnival games (Stan: “Remember: aim at the carnie’s head!”  Ford: “Not with DARTS, Stanley!”)  Somebody has already won a huge plush Jersey Devil for Mabel.  (I want one!)
(Most of this was reffed from the amusements at Casino Pier in Seaside Heights, NJ; which I think is probably one of the inspirations for Glass Shard Beach and its pier.)

Hi! I’m currently reading the english volume III for MDZS and I got confused about something and my friends and me couldn’t figure it out so maybe you’d be able to😭
In the xuanwu cave, it’s said that the archery competition was held last year…But, after the massacre of the Jiang clan, Wen Ning said he met WWX 2 years ago in that same competition! We all thought that maybe a year passed between the cave and the massacre…But Wang Lingjiao says, the night she died, that she had been with WC for six months…So the cave couldn’t be before that…So how come WN met WWX 2 years ago?😭 Is that an error in the timeline or we’re missing something? I even read the fan translation and it was the same situation
Hi Anon,
Thanks for the ask 😊
According to the novel, the archery competition during the Qishan discussion conference was the year prior to the recent Xuanwu of Slaughter cave escapade. We see WWX recall the archery competition while at the Wen indoctrination:
Last year, attending the Discussion Conference of the QishanWen Sect, Wen Chao also entered the grounds along with Wei WuXian and the others, on the day of the archery competition.
Chapter 51 ExR
From the novel, we also know it has only been around half a month between WWX and LWJ escaping the cave and the Wen sect attacking Lotus Pier. WWX was essentially grounded from the time he arrived back at Lotus Pier after being rescued from the cave. According to the below snippet from the novel, it's been two weeks since he was rescued from the cave - which is when the Wen sect arrived at Lotus Pier.
Taking the opportunity, Madam Yu gave Wei WuXian a harsh talking-to and ordered him not to take one step out of the gates of Lotus Pier, not even to play in the lake. Thus, he could only shoot kites with the Jiang Sect’s disciples, day after day after day. No matter how fun a game was, playing it every day would eventually become tedious. And so, about half a month later, the boys' interest dwindled.
Chapter 57 ExR
So we can safely say, it's definitely been less than "two years" or "a few years" since the archery competition and more likely around a year ago.
Wen Ning spoke slowly, “I… A few years ago, during the Discussion Conference at Qishan, I… I… was shooting arrows…
Chapter 59 ExR
WN does indeed say "a few years ago", but we can put this down to him being flustered and trying hard to explain everything to WWX before he breaks his neck.
Then we get WWX also saying this just after the above:
Seeing how timid, pitiful, yet stammering he was, Wei WuXian seemed as though he had finally remembered something, The Discussion Conference at Qishan two years ago… The Discussion Conference… Shooting arrows… Ah, there really was someone like him!
Chapter 59 ExR
Which as you have pointed out, doesn't make sense - or match up to the above timeline evidence from the rest of the novel. It's also the same in 7s as you mentioned above.
So I've had my friend check the traditional Chinese version of the above text and they have said:
看他這幅膽小可憐又磕磕巴巴的模樣,魏無羨卻忽然想起來了點什麼:「前年的岐山百家清談盛會……百家清談盛會……射箭……啊,好像是有這麼個人!
The text in pink translates as "the year before", not "two years ago" as ExR or 7s have translated above. So when WWX starts to recall the conference, it seems there may have been a mistranslation on both 7s and ExR versions. From what I can gather anyway! My friend also confirmed WN does state "a few years" in the traditional Chinese version as well - but as I said earlier, this is probably due to him trying to convince WWX he is there to help him and in his panic, he forgets the details a little.
I think it's safe to assume WWX met WN last year at some point and WN was just struggling to communicate with WWX, as he had his hand around his neck. That's my guess anyway! I'm not sure why both 7s and ExR would mistranslate it though!

They Both Cried
Jiang Cheng shook his hand away, “Don’t go back there?! Are you serious? You’re telling me not to go back there? My parents’ bodies are still in Lotus Pier—could I leave just like this? Where could I go if I don’t go back?!
”Wei WuXian’s grip tightened, “What could you do if you go back now? They’ve killed even Uncle Jiang and Madam Yu. All that’s waiting for you is death!”
Jiang Cheng shouted, “Death it is, then! If you’re scared of death then get lost—don’t block my path!”
Wei WuXian lunged for him, “Revenge is never too late. We must bring back the bodies but not now!”
Jiang Cheng dodged to the side before attacking, “When does not now mean? I’ve had enough of you—get lost right now!”
Wei WuXian shouted, “Uncle Jiang and Madam Yu said for me to look after you, for you to be well!”
“Shut up!” Jiang Cheng shoved him hard, roaring, “Why?!”
Wei WuXian was pushed into the bushes. Jiang Cheng threw himself over. He grabbed Wei WuXian’s collar and shook, “Why?! Why?! Just why?! Are you happy?! Are you satisfied?!”
He clenched Wei WuXian’s neck, eyes bloodshot, “Why did you save Lan WangJi?!”
Under the grief and the fury, Jiang Cheng had lost his mind. He couldn’t control the strength that he used at all. Wei WuXian pulled at his wrist, “Jiang Cheng…”
Holding him on the ground, Jiang Cheng continued to roar, “Why did you save Lan WangJi?! Why did you have to speak up?! How many times have I told you not to stir up trouble! Not to strike! Do you really want to play the hero so much?! Have you seen what happened when you played the hero?! Huh?! Are you happy now?!
“Lan WangJi and Jin ZiXuan and those people can just die! Just let them die! What’s their deaths got to do with us?! To do with our sect?! Why did this have to happen?! Why?!
“Go die, go die, go die! Everyone!!!”
Wei WuXian’s face had turned red. He shouted, “Jiang Cheng!!!”
The hand around his neck suddenly loosened.
Jiang Cheng glowered at him. Tears rolled down his cheeks. The depths of his throat let out a cry of dying man, a painful sob.
He spoke through tears, “… I want my parents, my parents…”
He was asking Wei WuXian for his father and his mother. Yet, no matter whom he asked, he wouldn’t be able to have them back again.
Wei WuXian was crying as well. The two of them sat collapsed amid the bushes of grass, watching each other bawl.
In his heart, Jiang Cheng knew clearly that back in the cave of the Xuanwu of Slaughter at Dusk-Creek Mountain, even if Wei WuXian hadn’t saved Lan WangJi, the Wen Sect would have found some reason to come over sooner or later. But he had always felt that, if the whole thing with Wei WuXian didn’t happen, maybe it wouldn’t have been so soon, maybe there would’ve been some way to turn things around.
It was this torturing thought that filled his heart with hatred and wrath. Unable to be let out, they cut up his innards.
When the day began to light up, Jiang Cheng had almost numbed.
Throughout the night, he had somehow managed to sleep a couple of times. The first reason was that, having been too tired from crying himself weak, he couldn’t help from passing out. The second reason was that he still had the hope that this might be a nightmare. He couldn’t wait to wake up after some rest and open his eyes to find himself lying inside of his room back in Lotus Pier.
Not to wake up in a bush of weeds with his head almost bursting apart, having been through an entire night of cold wind, and discovering that he was still curled up behind a barren little hill.
The first to move was Wei WuXian.
