Affordable living in Mountain View, Hawaii with this off-the-grid yurt. There are a few catches, though. The solar power system is hooked up to the house next door and will be disconnected. A new owner will have to set up a new solar system—including panels, batteries, and an inverter. $179K.
Tumblr media
Yurts are made of fabric and wood, but this one appears to have a metal outer shell wrapping.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A yurt is one large space, and you set it up as you like. The floor looks like bamboo.
Tumblr media
The stylish bamboo furniture comes from Bali and is included.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a cute kitchen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sleeping area is next to the kitchen.
Tumblr media
Screen walls form a closet behind the bed.
Tumblr media
In Hawaiian fashion, the home features a large lava rock shower.
Tumblr media
It has a composting toilet that you fill with peat moss, then spin the handle, and it becomes fertilizer. And, there's a lovely covered deck.
Tumblr media
The owners were going to make a cesspool for the toilet, but when the backhoe started to dig the hole, they discovered this lava cavern. So, they had lava rock built around it. It’s just a cool feature, and they are fairly common in the area.
Tumblr media
Naturally formed stalagmites and stalactites adorn the cavern. The lava-rock formations—created by water seeping through the porous rock—hang from the ceiling and protrude from the floor.
Tumblr media
It looks like hot wax dripping from a candle.
Tumblr media
You can see how deep the cave is- that's the ladder entrance way down there.
Tumblr media
The home is in the Fern Acres subdivision and there's a variety of different homes in the neighborhood, where new-construction houses are in the $400,000 range and most of the roads are paved.
Tumblr media
Each of the homes is on a 2-acre lot. The subdivision itself is about one-third developed. Each lot is 100 feet wide and 871 feet long, so it’s long and skinny.
Tumblr media
The yurt is set back 500 feet from the driveway, so it’s pretty private.
Tumblr media
It was built in 1993, on a lot teeming with tropical landscaping. Since it's not a traditional home, it can't be financed, though.

[and now for something completely self-indulgent]
Behold: Lehua
Just a purely self-serving-to-me pokémon OC as a treat to get those creative gears turning. More info under the cut for those that care lol
Lehua (lay-hoo-ah)
Named for the 'Ohi'a lehua tree, her shirt design represents the flowers of this tree (of which, there's currently a deadly fungus attacking these trees! I'd go off about it, might make a detailed post later. If you're interested please feel free to research)
Age: 30
Home region: Alola (specifically her family branch lives on Melemele)
Everything I have so far (subject to change)
Older cousin to Trial Captain Mina and they actually have a pretty good relationship. It's just Lehua's parents are constantly disappointed their daughter wasn't a prodigy like Mina and remind her of that constantly. This had led to Lehua being a little bitter, but Mina is oblivious to this one sided issue.
It's not that she wasn't good at things but she lacks focus that's led to a more "Jack of all trades" approach.
Her family is pretty dedicated to fairy types as a whole, but Lehua, while she does tend to lean fairy, is not exclusively a fairy-type specialist.
Didn't complete her island challenge.
Struck out at 20 to travel and figure herself out, ended up region hopping for around a decade before returning home. She worked odd jobs to pay for herself, a lot of restaurant work, a lot of freelance work.
Currently a bit of an x Nanu character, but who knows honestly where she's gonna end up.
Currently her Pokémon team consists of Puka (Eevee), Pikake (Comfey), Lilikoi (Mimikyu) Ahi (Tatsugiri)-- team is still in progress
Met Acerola on the hunt for a Mimikyu when she got home
Weirdly neurotic about not wanting Puka to evolve. Says that if Puka evolves she'll feel like it's a sign to settle down.
(Puka was going to be named Leho but that might be confusing with Lehua, but that's why the necklace she wears with the everstone has cowries)
Big former gifted kid energy

Karukold
Lycopodium clavatum L., Lycopodiaceae
Anekold, hanetiburohi, hanetõberohi, kahetusekold, koerakollad, kuusealused, kuuseraiad, nõiakaetsed, rebaseraided, rebasereinud, reburaig, riburaigas, vareksevrbad, õuemaied
Common club moss, stag's-horn clubmoss, running clubmoss, ground pine
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Karukold, mitmeaastane eostaim, kasvab kuivades kuusemetsades, segametsades ja nõmmedel.
Kogutakse niiske ilmaga augustis-septembris. Ei tohi sõeluda lahtise tulega ruumis, sest eosed on plahvatusohtlikud.
Karukolla eoseid kasutatakse apteekides esmajoones abimaterjalina - ravimpillide valmistamisel nende ülepuistamiseks; nad on tarvitusel ka imikupuudrina ja neid puistatakse haudunud varvaste vahele ning mujale, kus higistamisel tekivad valusad hõõrdunud kohad.
Kirjeldus
Karukold, mitmeaastane eostaim, kasvab kuivades kuusemetsades, segametsades ja nõmmedel.
Vars on roomav, kuni 180cm pikk, tugevasti harunev.
Lehed rohelised või kollakasrohelised, naaskeljad, ahenevad tipus pikaks valkjaks karvaks; asetsevad tihedalt varre ümber.
Eospead kuni 6cm pikal kandjal, üksikult või kahekaupa, harva kolmekaupa, eoslehed (sporofüllid) kollakasrohelised, hiljem helekollased, munajad, 2-3mm pikad, 2mm laiad, teritunud tipuga, korrapäraselt hambulise servaga.
Eosed arenevad juulist septembrini; massina on nad valkjaskollased. Eesti NSV-s esineb kõikjal.
Ravim
Apteekides kasutatakse karukolla eoseid - Lycopodium.
Kuivad eosed on valkjaskollased, eriti suures koguses. Droog ei tohi sisaldada niiskust üle 6%, siidsõela (nr. 16) mitteläbivaid osakesi peab olema alla 0,2%; tuhajääk võib olla kuni 3%. Mineraalsed lisandid ei ole lubatavad.
Eosed sisaldavad mittekuivavat rasvõli (kuni 50%), mis koosneb õli-, steariin-, palmitiin-, müristiin-, arahhis-, lükopoodium-, tanatseet- ja dioksüsteraiinhappe glütseriididest, proteiine, fütosteriini, suhkrut, mineraalaineid.
Toimed
Karukolla eoseid kasutatakse apteekides esmajoones abimaterjalina - ravimpillide valmistamisel nende ülepuistamiseks; nad on tarvitusel ka imikupuudrina ja neid puistatakse haudunud varvaste vahele ning mujale, kus higistamisel tekivad valusad hõõrdunud kohad.
Tehnikas kasutatakse karukolla eoseid metalli valuvormide ülepuistamiseks.
Peale karukolla eoste on lubatud kasutada ka kattekolla ja vareskolla eoseid.

Long Ass Tag Game
Tagged by @linnorabeifong, thank you queen!
How many tumblr accounts have you had before this one?
This my first one.
How long have you been in fandom?
Since like 2008/2009-ish? My typical span in a fandom lasts about 3 years.
Your favorite trope in fiction?
Soulmates and love at first sight 🥺 I've had my own experiences irl and I love reading + incorporating that into fiction!
Your favorite random fact?
A man was saved by a sea lion while he attempted to unalive himself
Your favorite game or kind of game?
Dodgeball. I'm hella good at dodging and catching, but need to work on throwing lol
I'm not into board games or group activities bc they make me feel embarrassed and/or don't really feel "fun" I am, however, very competitive. Even if I don't like playing games, I easily get into competition mode.
A place you'd like to visit? (If carbon emissions, logistics and money weren't in question)
I haven't been to Europe yet, so there are many countries in that region that I'd love to explore. Maybe my top three to visit are Italy, Spain, and Greece.
Nordic region: Norway to see the aurora borealis 😍
South America: Machu Picchu
Okay I'm getting ahead of myself, does this give away that I'm a Sagittarius?
An animal you're irrationally afraid of?
FUCKING ROACHES. The ones where I come from are another level bc they FLY. I hate them so much. Feels like I'm going to war when I see one on the bathroom wall at night.
What's your favorite season?
Winter. I'm a winter girl at heart and i looooove the cold.
A smell that brings you nice memories?
Pikake, plumeria, puakenikeni, white ginger, gardenia, and kupaloke. These are all flowers that are used in lei, and remind me of home. I wish I could upload a fragrance because the smell alone makes anyone happy.
(If you're ok talking about food. If not, delete this part)
HELL YES I LOVE FOOD!
What's your favorite food from where you were born? And what's your favorite food from some place else?
I would say lau lau, poi, haupia, and kūlolo. Lau lau is meat (my fav is pork) wrapped in ti leaves, then smoked and cooked in an underground oven for hours. Poi is pounded taro until it has a paste-like consistency. Haupia is sort of like a coconut pudding, but firm. Kūlolo is like a taro pudding, but I don't think that accurately describes it lol
From somewhere else, (almost all) Mexican food, Thai panang curry and green chicken curry, Vietnamese bún bò huế and pho, most Korean foods, and...
Yes, I just love food.
What's your favorite drink (if you drink alcohol, alcoholic and non-alcoholic)?
Non-alcoholic:
Ceylon tea. There's a honey ceylon tea from Japan, that is MY ULTIMATE FAVORITE.
Boba (Taro, Thai milk tea, and brown sugar)
Horchata
Sikhye
Alcoholic:
Peach crush
Screwdriver
All soju cocktails, except for beer + soju
Tropical moscato
Piña colada (also virgin)
Lava flow
Alcohol:
Tumblr media
Do you give your pets random table scraps?
When I had a doggie, yes but only foods that she could eat.
Tagging (no pressure as always): @peachchanvidel @obsessedwithlinzin @vr-tb @yellowsalt3 @khrystyav and anyone who would love to give this a shot!

@nightmarefuele may have had a certain Corvid-Boy ask how often does she self-pleasure....for science, of course.
To Add a Little Spice || -
In an instant Beth comes to several different conclusions after he crisply bites out each word of the question. The first is that she is grateful they occupy space in a coffee shop that lies in a triangle between his place, her place, and the university library where they'd begun this latest assignment. An exercise in verbal intimacy and navigating emotional openness in a clinical setting. Becoming familiar and empathetic toward one's patients. The second is that despite being at this for over two hours, the permafrost in his gaze remains. A shiver runs down her spine. One that tasks her will not to allow be visible, though maybe if she weren't wearing her knee-length cardigan, he'd see the rush of chicken-skin it provokes. Third is that this is the first time in weeks she's seen a touch of amusement curve his lips. By no means a full smile, there's a grim sort of tilt to his mouth. Something she'd more likely call smug than welcoming. Beth considers refusing him an answer. There are hundreds of other questions on the list that they'd been given. It would only be fair as Jonathan at various intervals refused certain ones; anything about his family. Anything regarding his childhood in general. Not that she blames him, her first refusal came over the question about the relationship she has with her parents. Sea is her mother. The earth is her tutu. He would likely never understand what she means by that and it skirts too close to a truth that can not ~must not~ be spoken aloud. Not that he'd believe her if she told him. He's too much a creature of logic and reason. Even if she were to flay him down to the bone, down to the soul, Beth would be hard-pressed to find any wonder at all in him. Jonathan isn't an old man for banality to have him so tightly in its claws. She picks through the ways she could answer him. How truthful she's willing to be. She can't quite shake the feeling that she's going to both bore him but also make him question how many of the rumours are true. Will he ask about her brother, then? Make a lot of the same assumptions? If she were anyone else, would she do the same? Will he think she's frigid? Disdainful of anyone she deems beneath her and not in the way meant in later questions? Will he think she's lying? Their notes aren't due for review until next week. Maybe she could suggest reconvening? No, that would be a victory for him. Knowing he got the better of her. Beth sighs. Leans forward and picks her chai off the table and takes a sip. She looks at Jonathan's hands ~elegant, aren't they? expressive~ at his notes, at everything but his eyes, vivid behind his glasses. She takes hers off and perches them in her hair. She can almost hear him purr the words 'staling tactics and furtive movements'. "I…uh….I tried it once. Alone one night, anxious an' maybe a small kine irritable. Night was too hot, too close. Almost felt…alive. I'd try yoga, a bath…." She enunciates the word pitifully so there is no misconstruing her meeting. Her hands end up folding in her lap, knuckles fitted together, fingers upward and curled before lacing together. Her pulse ticks at her throat. Her breath is shallow, uneven. "Swimmin' in da indoor pool. Reading. All da usual sort of t'ings, right? An' jus….put on some music. Saint-Saëns ~ Le Cygne, f'ya curious. Poured myself some wine, lit some pikake flower candles. Uh…jasmine. Dat's what pikake means. I pick up my phone, look at some videos jus' so I had an idea. But….but it no work f' me, you know? No reaction suppose t' have. No heat or passion, no…you know. If anyt'ing it was awkward. Uncomfortable." Her voice lowers to just a bare movement of her lips. "Guilty. Sinful." She swallows and shrugs, now not looking at anything but her hands, almost accusatory. "Don' see a point in it. Don' really see one to any of dat." Now he knows. Now he can dissect her, make fun of the fact that she's … "Wha' ya firs' memory of bein' sexually 'roused?"

tag game!
tagged by: @woodswit
name: bella
pronouns: she/her
where do you call home: Upstate New York!
favorite animal: wolf!
cereal of choice: chocolate koala crisps (it's basically the hippie version of chocolate rice krispies)
visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner: I do okay with visual and auditory, I'll remember most of what I hear or see, but I don't fully understand most things until I do them myself so kinesthetic.
first pet: well my mom had a fluffy (angry) yellow cat named Govinda when I was a baby but I think my first own personal pet was a little white bunny named Snowball.
favorite scent: I can't wear perfume regularly anymore because I work in a restaurant but I've been wearing Gucci Flora's Generous Violet since I was about 18. When I'm truly homesick I like to wear Pikake oil perfume, which is Hawaiian jasmine. It's very expensive so I try to make it last.
do you believe in astrology: not really! I think it's fun and I don't look down on people who do believe but I've never felt like my chart was particularly accurate. My mom is a believer and she did my chart like the day I was born so I have it memorized though! Even she agrees I am not particularly Taurus-like.
how many playlists do you have on your music service of choice: oh man, I can't even imagine, it's gonna be a lot, I'm a playlist addict. You know what, that number is too big...I have 4 public playlist, we'll leave it at that.
sharpies or highlighters: sharpies!
song that makes you cry: The Toy by Hana Zara
song that makes you happy: Sleep on the Floor by The Lumineers
and finally, do you write/draw/create: Yes! when the stars align I write fanfiction, but lately I've had a lot of ideas for original stories so I've kind of been focusing on that. I write a lot of poetry, too. I am not great at drawing but it does happen, same with painting (mostly watercolor and mostly as an excuse to mix colors). I also do a lot of crafts and embroidery.

Hommikuti silmad avan
Jälle lähen närvi
Elus juba pikka aega
Pole olnud värvi
Voodilinad ärgates
On sinu lõhna täis
Kuigi keegi võõras
Sinu asemel siin käis
Päev on hall ja lühike
Vaid õhtu venib pikaks
Pimedus mu südamesse
Lõikab nagu vikat
