Hey Martyn! So, I got into your lore because of Grian's Life Series, and now I'm just trying to find some stuff out. Anyways, I understand most of it, though I do have a couple questions.
What actually are LOOT shards/crystals? I know that they're soke aort of corruption in games of sorta, but how do they get there, how to they affect the game, and also how to disable them. It's just something I'm wondering about since I know you have to find the one piece, of treasure, but how does it actually help?
What are CHEST agents? I know that they're something almost as evil as Cruppy, which is really saying something, but what actually are they?
Are there any extra lore bits in Rats SMP that you can't get anywhere else? I just wanna know if I should grit my teeth and watch it sometime, when I'm done catching up on the VODs of Pirates (can't make it to streams for personal reasons, alas).
If you've come up with it, is there any way that the Watchers lore from the Life Series ties into the datastream hopper lore? Those two just seem a little incompatible to me - hopping the datastream, being captured by mysterious godlike entities... Or are they just two separate universes?
Do you plan on posting the New Life streams on your vods channel?
Who in Pirates is p!Martyn closest to in each faction, overall?
Also, I think you may have mentioned it on stream, but did you take the faction quiz and if so, which faction did you get? I kid you not, when I took it I got Kestrels all three times (with changing the answers to stuff that I would still do, but different than first time, I mean). Had to change it up just to see all the different faction descriptions...
Ok, I think that's it. Sorry if I have bad formatting btw, I'm typing this out on phone. Thank you for taking the time to read my questions! Absolutely love your work and lore, while at the same time having the humour some don't. Keep on doing an amazing job. Hope you find your one piece, of treasure.
Have an ice day!
That's something I want to unveil in the next lore drop, so I'm really sorry to say SoonTM but this lore doesn't have all that many secrets atm
2. C.H.E.S.T agents work are avatars controlled by human operators working for C.H.E.S.T and its evil underbelly. They're a known and trusted public computing corporation but the public doesn't know the full extent of their goals and resources
3. I try to be pretty concise and unavoidable when I do my lore stuff, so you should be able to find the Rats segments in this playlist with ease: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3MFbfp1zo8dooC57HqfbizRoc07PdlFQ
4. Maaaaaaybe, people have noticed some parallels / links and all shall be revealed one day for sure, even if I'm like gonna quit doing videos and streaming, I'd just lore dump whatever isn't revealed so it's out there ha
5. A lot of my New Life streams are me just doing the grindy parts of the SMP and with the server being somewhat inactive I want to save the crossover / collab content for the videos - I'm not sure people would flock to a 3 hour vod of me painfully and slowly building an outpost or hollowing out a mountain to make a factory ya know?
6. Kestrels - probably Sausage, with Oli as a close second. Herons - Owen or Water. Owen has an inquisitive gene like Martyn and Water likes all things musical. Nightingales - Ros is so different to Martyn that it makes for some wholesome and chaotic interations, you never know which you'll get. Kites - Bek is basically the only one he's interacted with, he had a little banter on the seas with Kuervo but it was brief
7. I did! I surprisingly got Kestrel, or I guess, not surprisingly huh?

Spoilers for the first session of Pirates SMP!!
I have a few schools of thought about the purple stuff in Pirates SMP
1) Its some sort of "natural" corruption that's taking over the ocean, one island at a time. Similar to the sickness in Moana.
2) Its artificially placed there by some sort of higher power, be it the Watchers (which I doubt is the actual intention but I fully expect it will be swung that way for lore purposes) or entities of a similar vein to the Watchers.
There seems to be a small precedent for the corruption feeding off emotion, specifically hunting out negative emotions. Which admittedly does lean into Martyn's Watcher lore a bit. I noticed in the cutsceen of Aimsley's "falling" that the sounds used to lure Aimsley in is crying, and that crying has Aimsley worked into a worried/panicked frenzy trying to find the source.
From there let's look at Cruppy (or whatever that thing's name is), it's first appearance had people cooing over it, which it seemed to have enjoyed, but the only person it follows around? Martyn. As he's angrily warning everyone to keep their distance, it seems to latch on to him in an attempted to bring even more negative emotions to the surface.
I am more inclined by the idea of the entities than the idea of the corruption being from a natural source. It fits with Gruqqie's death better as well. Those men with the golden sails and hooded robes are maybe members of a cult of the entity or something similar.

I was overthinking the pirates smp and now have a theory
So I'm going to start this off by saying that I think the whole thing with Gabriel is going to lead to the next death of the series and that it will specifically be a heron death (because we'll the quest for Gabriel was very clearly targeting herons)
Either way in that stream the monster slayer tells the party that took the quest for Gabriel that opening the crypt would lead to their deaths (or something along those lines I don't remember it word for word) and I was thinking about that and realized, I'm pretty sure there's a lot of crypts across the map, and the weird temple thing that Guqqie entered in the animation from the first episode looked pretty similar to those crypts. So what if each crypt houses some kinda corruption or calamity or something and the weird purple corruption stuff originated from a crypt that was on the island it over took?
I think that's the best explanation I can give rn. It's late and I may just be insane and overthinking but if you find this theory interesting then take it an do what you want, ig.

Ok, ok, hear me out cause I think I have the timeliness correct, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. So the stuff in the desert happens, right? The Pirates smp is giving me the idea that character Scar is slowly losing his mind, possibly because of the desert, or possibly because of moon big? He's always been corrupt [buisnessman] but were starting to see a bit more of his evil side now.

@thenaiads Okay so this is a bit long and I didn't plan for that (hence why I'm just adding on here cause APPARENTLY comment replys have a limit) but I think I've gathered my thoughts - it was rather late when I made this post lol
Admittedly it's not a like, one to one or perfect comparison by any means (definitely not if we stick just to canon stuff)- more like 'damn you could make an au outta this' type deal and like the vibes which makes it difficult to explain but anyways:
I think the main thing with how I see it as coded for awesamdream is that, for lack of any better wording, the dynamic is notably messy - riddled with betrayals of trust, corruption of one of the parties involved due to assumptions, attempts at controlling the other and guilt, but at the same time both parties do hold some kind of love for each other - they've both been hurt (some more than others) by eachother but even DESPITE that they both love the other in some way, even if there's heavy denial on one end.
Sam and Davy Jones do hold some similarities - despite the difference in their settings and situations: Sam was given the role of Warden, a seemingly noble purpose and we all know that went wrong to say the least. Sam becomes corrupted by the prison and letting his own ideals come before any rational thought, he makes assumptions on people and their decisions like crazy - and the kind of catalyst of everything is that Davy Jones assumes that Calypso had forsaken him, Sam would make an assumption like that if someone didn't show up for their first meeting in 10 years. Most notably though, Sam was the one to lock Dream away - it wasn't his idea, but he did it and Jones was the one to show the pirate lords of the time how to bind Calypso in human form. And this goes more into personal interpretation and my own take on Sam's internal dialogue, but while Sam definitely has these thoughts and feelings repressed half way to hell, I think he did have a thing for/loved Dream pre-prison in some way and there's definitely a feeling of betrayal on his end with the staged finale (he thought Dream was a good person and wanted the prison for the server so they could deal with any problems/for a good reason - then as it turns out Dream is "the bad guy" which just metaphorically stabs Sam in the heart.) - and it's a very prevalent thing in the third pirates with Jones denying his love for Calypso and going 'she betrayed me' and 'left me no choice' but still he later says to Calypso herself that his heart will always belong to her. And while Jones isn't on some moral superiority complex like Sam, I feel like they are similar and I also eternally stand by the fact that Sam was at the least a decent if not a good man before the prison, I do not care for the idea that "he was always like that and the prison just let him be his true self" or something like that whatsoever and it's noted that Jones WAS a decent guy before everything and that's part of why Calypso gave him the duty she did.
As for Dream and Calypso: Dream is inherently attached to the idea of the supernatural, his connection to the revival book namely and depending on what you consider canon the whole Dreamon situation - and also he was the one to in-state Sam as Warden. Also his ties to XD who looks like him, and I personally have the hc of him being a direct creation of XD. Dream also is notably unpredictable, challenging, fickle even - not unlike how the sea can be - frankly Dream can be a lot of things and so can the ocean, whether that be a lethal force that can tear down cities or the literal life blood of the planet. Also the whole "he ran afowl with that which vexes all men" line, referring to Calypso feels Dream, like he IS the smps most eligible bachelor.
Anyways I think most importantly I feel like Sam would be the type of guy to rip out his own heart so he doesn't feel guilt anymore if he could (cause he HAS to have some level of guilt buried in there, I mean, *I gesture to the interaction with Ponk post prison break where he literally tells Ponk to just kill him with his own sword amongst other things* - and Dream being attributed to the sea in all of its ever changing and challenging nature I think has some fun potential!
And to be fair this is like, far off from how I USUALLY approach awesamdream since I prefer to give them a happy ending/have things work out in one way or another but idk I feel like there's some vibes with this dynamic- anyways I hope this makes sense?? Again putting what I call "the vibes" into words is really difficult, but hey I tried.
Would anyone shoot me if I said the dynamic between Calypso and Davy Jones from POTC was Awesamdream coded--

SUP LADS NEW SKELETON RELATED LORE DROPPED
Which means it's time for another round of crack theories/observations with Lonk!
So in Shubble's latest video we are shown that when Sausage was sleepwalking he was wearing a skull on his head. Later in the same video when she goes to the nether she finds her magic circle is broken and along with the weird spikes that appeared a bunch of wither skeletons seem to have be summoned.
Now the obvious connection is that the skull that sleepwalking Sausage is wearing may be connected to either the skull from Scott's lore, Skeletron from Joey's lore or perhaps both. In the past I also made a joke that the crown worn by the tyrant king shown in Sausage's flashbacks do kinda resemble bones/ribs. There is clearly a skeletal motif that is seen with characters or events that have evil, possessed, corrupt or otherwise negative connotations. I wonder if all this skull imagery and skeletal objects are pointing to this all coming from the same source. Possibly a villain like Skeletron or more likely something much bigger.
Another fun but most likely coincidental connection is the use of wither skeletons throughout both Joey and Shelby's lore. When pirate Joe storms one of Skeletron's outposts in his videos the main ‘boss’ of that area and most likely the most high ranking of the skeletal pirates in that outpost is, you guessed it, a wither skeleton! And what comes out of Shelby’s magic circle? Wither skeletons. Not only is this more skeletal imagery related to villains/dark magic but it also makes it seem even more likely that these events are at least somewhat connected.
Tumblr media
Now let’s break away from the skeleton centric theories to talk about something else. Nekomancy and the large focus on undead. Recently a lot of the empires have been ‘curing’ their villagers. You know, standard minecraft stuff. Except not only have they all seemed to do it around the same time but it is what also inspired Shelby to try ‘cure’ sausage and accidentally turn him into a zombie. We also see Lizzie performing ‘nekomancy’ which causes skulk to spread in her attic, most likely due to the death themed spells she used. Skulk does multiply when mobs die after all.
Now Sausage is eventually cured from the whole zombie thing by finding a Totem of Revival after receiving a little help from Saint Pearl. Saint Pearl herself is often depicted as a god of life/light, being surrounded by sunflowers and using very light colours. Her actions, or those of her champions such as Angel Sausage in Afterlife SMP, are usually focused around purifying evil, healing and light. In Empires s2 we see her depicted on a mural underneath the statue/catacombs in Pix's ruined city. A lot of people, myself included, have noticed similarities in design to the winged statue and Saint Pearl (especially @sabiralangevan on twitter's interpretation of her).
However, the winged statue only has one gold wing. The other is black. So here’s where my crack theory comes in. We know that the statue is probably referencing Saint Pearl as there’s literally a mural/memorial underneath it. But what if that isn’t the only thing it’s referencing? What if there’s another god/deity that we haven’t seen that is the opposite to Pearl. A god of darkness and death that mirrors Saint Pearl's light and warmth. We’ve seen a similar dynamics between Aeor and Exor, the two stag gods of Rivendell and later their champions. With so many references to dark magic and undead within this season (such as the Evermoore, skulk, undead and skeletons) I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a being tied to all of it. The statue in the ruined city doesn’t just reference Pearl but also her counterpart. Gods of both life and death mirrored in one statue.
I could go even further and point out the whole Wisp thing going on with Gem's lore being suspicious and how the entirety of Glimmer Grove is split, with one half withering in darkness and spawning undead monsters. Hell we know for a fact that people get lost and/or cursed if they wander into the Mangrove swamp. Literally one of my earliest theories for this season was that the skulk was spreading/a corrupting force like the nether corruption from season 1. All of this stinks of dark magic.
Anyways, thank you for coming to my dumbass ted talk. What do y’all think about my crack theories? If you have anything to add or theories of your own you want to share please feel free to add to this post! :D

Heck it, list of Dream SMP members as gods.(Please read tags before opening!)
Let’s start out with the Sleepy Bois.
c!Wilbur would be the God of Language. Pretty self-explanatory.
c!Tommy would be the God of Emotions. I believe c!Tommy is one of the most emotionally driven characters on the DSMP(and I also couldn’t find something that fit with his story)
c!Techno is the God of Harvest and Anarchy. Anarchy is pretty self-explanatory, but the reason I chose harvest is for the double meaning. Harvest is most commonly applied to harvesting fruits and vegetables, but you can also harvest organs. That’s why I chose harvest.
c!Phil is the Bringer of Death. He’s basically Thanatos, with Mumza as Goddess of the Underworld.
Feral boys!
c!Dream is the God of Luck and Speed. Because of his speedruns and manhunts.
c!George is the God of Dreams. No explanation needed.
c!Sapnap is the God of Fire. I’m not putting him as “God of Pet Deaths”.
c!Quackity is the God of Gambling. This isn’t just normal gambling, but gambling on chances.
c!Karl is the God of Time. Do I beed to explain?
BeeDuo!
c!Tubbo is the God of Nature. Both the good and the bad(his natural destruction via nukes).
c!Ranboo is the God of Memory. He was cursed to only remember his full life when enderwalking(a thing Enderman do in this AU).
Other people that don’t fit in these categories!
c!Eret is the God of the Nether. Now I’ll go into more explanation on both c!Eret, c!Bad, and c!Techno due to them not being a part of the Overworld Pantheon later.
c!Foolish is what he is in canon.
c!Sam is the God of Order. No explanation.
c!Ponk is the God of Lemons. I couldn’t find anything better, I’m not well versed on Ponk’s lore.
c!Niki is the Goddess of Vengeance.
c!Puffy is the Goddess of the Ocean. She’s a pirate.
c!Bad is the God of Corruption. I struggled with this one, before deciding on Corruption due to the Egg and he’s a demon.
c!Skeppy is the God of Trickery. His trolls.
c!Purpled is the God of Money. He’s a mercenary.
c!Fundy(I am so sorry I forgot him) is the God of Family. If I know my stuff(which I probably don’t), his arc currently is about family.
DreamXD is the Protector of the Server. He’s the true admin.
Those are the ones currently, I still have more but those’ll come later.

"Don't you want to be the one?" - Bang Bang Bang Bang - Sohodolls
If P!Scott won't have corrupted ark, then I want someone to write it.
Just imagine what angst could be here. c!Scott is so desperate to make himself the name that he messes with the purple stuff in the hope of finding something valuable and ends up corrupted by it. And maybe Scott and people don't notice it right away, and he ends up spreading it unconsciously.

Hear me out.
On Empires, we had the "c!Scott has a sibling" moment, and Scott was the younger sibling, while Xornoth was older, and they were corrupted.
On Pirates, we have the "c!Scott has a sibling" moment, but now Scott is the older sibling, and Pirates has some sort of corruption, and Scott shows interest in it in his journal entry.
Pirates SMP! Scott is going to end up corrupted by that purple stuff.
