Cleaned up my plants and windowsills! 🏝🏝🏝🏝 The bigge boi is my dream plant, a Dragon's Blood Tree ("Dracaena draco"), and he weighs like 60+ pounds, MINIMUM, I s2g. I'm amazed I was able to deadlift him up the whole stairway (in a very smooth pot with no grips) when I could barely move him 5 feet into the house after potting him last month. (And the grow light is there because I don't think it's quite enough sunlight, but he's been doing well inside with NO direct light for the past month, so...) 🐉 I also have 2 new Poinsettias ("Euphorbia pulcherrima") bc I'm all about that #tropicallyfe !! One's a pinky salmon colour, and the other is red and white variegated "Mexican Flameleaf". My mom also has a classic red one we're gonna try to plant in the yard after it stops blooming. 🌹 My "Cordyline indivisa" got his pot painted gold finally to match all my shit. He's looking REALLY great and has grown A LOT. I feel bad that his brother I kept outside died last spring, but that's why I kept them separate! 🏝 I also got a Christmas Cactus ("Schlumbergera bridgesii") and unfortunately did not have a pot big enough for all 4 of them to stay together, so I had to separate them out, and now their flowers and buds are dropping off. 🙃😥 But better that than staying in the gross nursery pot. (I know, they like to be pot-bound, but I can't keep a black nursery pot inside, it's not #aesthetic .) 🎄 My other plants are still kickin' - Persian Shield plants ("Strobilanthus") and Dark Star Coleus ("Coleus"). I tried propagating both from a clipping, but I think it's too cold for them downstairs... so. The jury's still out on those. (Also pictured: Arrowhead Plant/"Syngonium podophyllum" and Rubber Plant/"Ficus elastica"). 💖 I still have a bunch more plant-organizing to do on my vanity counter, so stay tuned for that. (But only if I stop procrastinating it.) 🌈 #plants #indoorgardening #indoorplants #plantlyfe #organization #dracaenadraco #dracaena #dragonsbloodtree #dragontree #euphorbiapulcherrima #euphorbia #euphorbiaceae #poinsettia #tropicalplants #cordyline #cordylineindivisa #dracaenaspikes #schlumbergera #schlumbergerabridgesii #christmascactus #persianshield #coleus https://www.instagram.com/coridallasmultipass/p/CXKi70jFr3n/?utm_medium=tumblr

Propagating cuttings
I was early to meet a friend for coffee so I browsed the nursery next to the cafe. Next thing you know, I've stumbled across this:
(it was clean when I bought it!)
By the time my friend came to find me, I was armed with advice on how to take cuttings from the wonderful gardener at the counter, armed with the root striking powder, a pretty pot, and the gift of a cutting from a plant growing between the bricks!
I've planted 3 different cuttings so far:
1) The cutting from the nursery. I can't remember what the gardener said it was named, but I love surprises!
2) A cutting from the orange tree in the backyard of this rental property. It's grown some fantastic fruit this year, and hopefully I might be able to keep a mini version until I've got somewhere to set down roots.
3) A white camellia also from this backyard. I remember my mum taking about getting cuttings from camellia bushes and growing them when she was a girl, so hopefully it's a hardy plant that'll take root easily!
The pots I'm using were only $1.50 at Kmart, and I can write on them with my chalk pen so they're easy to label. I'm keeping them indoors for now as it's winter and I need to keep the soil damp - much more manageable if I don't need to venture out into the cold!
I used a mix of 1/3 mature compost from the compost tumbler and 2/3 regular potting mix. Hopefully that will give the roots plenty of nutrients to get settled and grow me some more plants!
Will update when there's any developments 😊

Bleeding Heart. A toxic plant named after its resemblance to a symbol of love. Or lust. Look closer and those mounds look like pressed lady parts about to bust out. Foaming at the mouth with want and desire isn't love. Alone, that positive eyes only type of attraction wants the cake without the calories. Love is acceptance of the full thing. Accepting the sweet and the sugar crash afterwards. Its confusing. Not just wanting someone's good but also their bad, or their snotty. Like this plant. It should wear a mask before it drips all over place. #gratitude #love #zen #strength #magick #plantlyfe #flower #acceptance #spring #wegettodothis https://www.instagram.com/p/CATfEpDhK7T/?igshid=2z41bh4ylyxv

So I've started a project that's been brewing in my head for awhile. Once a week I plan to collect a little bit of nature, specifically plant life, to create a single letter of the alphabet that I will photograph, create a cyanotype with and sketch/watercolor. I started with B last week (yeah I know B is not the first letter of the alphabet 😒) and I'm pretty please with the results. #type #typography #chinaberry #B #typeproject #plantlife #cyanotype #watercolor

By the time my friend came to find me, I was armed with advice on how to take cuttings from the wonderful gardener at the counter, armed with the root striking powder, a pretty pot, and the gift of a cutting from a plant growing between the bricks! I also looked up some tips from the Gardening Australia website as advised at the nursery, and it was really helpful!
