I've noticed lately this community has a large lack of engagement. I'm assuming this is because people are from Twitter and TikTok. Tumblr is not Twitter and it's not TikTok.

As a creator who doesn't get paid to write fanfiction and does it in her own free time, I derive pleasure from comments and people interacting with me in my inbox. People lately are just expecting me to write and are giving nothing back. I ask questions on my blog and rarely get any response. I try to make fun ask games or do fun things with my followers and there's no engagement. When you submit an ask it needs to be more than a sentence or two. It doesn't have to be hyper specific but I need help writing stories. I need guidance and ideas. The shorter an ask the harder it is to do. I also need interaction. I need people to respond to my work with more than likes.

Don't be afraid to message me, don't be afraid to talk!!! Don't be afraid to leave your o.c info in my inbox or to infodump about Owlhouse. Maybe point out stuff you think I haven't noticed or ask my opinion about something in the show. Tell me what character you think I am, ask about my o.c or tell me about yours. The Owlhouse is a community so let's stop being so isolating and start getting more involved.

I'm so glad you've read and enjoyed Heartbreak in the Making! In truth, that's one of the blurbs I wrote for my 100 Follower Celebration that I'm never going to write a sequel for. It wasn't my favorite to write because it brought up a lot of icky emotions from when I was in middle school and high school. I also wanted this one to mimic real-life a bit more. Life sucks. You don't always get a happy ending with somebody. Sometimes relationships fizzle out rather than cleanly breaking off.

to be fair i know exactly why ppl don't wanna post that bc witchtok is an echo chamber and anything that isn't ew racism or burning incense will get you bullied to hell and back in there. i'm careful with my own posts too (kinda stopped filtering so much tho bc i was getting annoyed) bc i've seen ppl get harassed and cyber stalked or mass reported over tedious shit. either that or they get discussed by less aggressive accounts. which. is it's own situation

these discussions can be semi or fully respectful (always calm tho) but i just think it's really weird. to post. a short video and have a group of people you don't know publicly breaking down every detail of your video saying things like " i don't know this persons situation but it COULD be a sign of psychosis" in a calm polite voice. i think it's so so weird. especially if in said video you're in distress. its like having a panic attack and some random person turns to the rest of the people in the room like "let's discuss the ethics of this situation" and starts a socratic seminar. it's treating a human like a hypothetical example. either help them if you know them well enough or leave them alone.

so lately this has been on my mind a lot because I've been going through the archives of editors that would post picspams/graphics/gifsets etc. that I'd be fond of and its soooo sad to see that creativity and talent like that doesn't exist anymore (please note: im not saying that edits these days are bad, they're just different from what i used to see on 2010-2014 tumblr days)

and i know no one asked but here are my top 4 theories as to why we no longer see those types of edits anymore:

a lot of those editors that were the OG creators of picspams/graphics/rainbow giftsets etc. left tumblr! i used to know a lot of those editors and recall them being in their late 20s/30s so perhaps they just grew out of it and have other things to tend to in their personal lives :)

the introduction of other social media apps and incentivites - now that there's instagram and tiktok...social media became more so about posting selfies and videos and getting compliments blah blah you know the whole ordeal BUT ALSO getting paid to create! people who make edits on tiktok literally get paid and same for instagrammers which is great but i found it so amazing that people would put so much effort into creating on tumblr circa 2010-2014 with no incentive other than showing their love for their fandom in a creative way

UGH! the like button is seriously the downfall of tumblr like the current like to blog ratio is INSANE how is this allowed???? tumblr is not like other social media platforms...pls im begging y'all to reblog. there's nothing quite like a reblog with someone adding hashtags like I LOVE seeing the unhinged stuff ppl tag when they reblog ok that's the beauty of the reblog button

the new tumblr size limit...so yeah i remember being frustrated with the gif size limit but now that there's an increased limit people keep making big gifs and calling it a day WHICH there is nothing wrong with that but that meant people no longer made colorful sets like this or this which i absolutely adored! and genuinely i think those big gifs are more suited for tumblr mobile than tumblr desktop tbh

my first creation was a gifset of chanyeol during his power photoshoot ! it wasn’t the best thing because i was quite new to giffing and didn’t know anything at all about colouring or other effects, but i’m still proud of myself. and for my most recent creation, i’ve tried checking dates to see when i posted because i don’t remember at all sjjd but i’m assuming it’s most likely this lavender!yeol set i made ? because it’s the last one i recall making ajsjjd

it’ll definitely have to be my betcha gfx i made for the exolrevival ahh i absolutely love this edit so much , it was probably the first time i looked at something and thought wow i’m so proud of that ! and baekhyun oof he looked so adorable in the colours and the shoot it self, he made it all so much better !

ahh this is my favourite question ! i tried some digital journaling and it was quite hard because it was all on a device but i think i did well and i love the outcome ! i think i did various different spreads but my favourite is the chanyeol spread ! it was just so much fun to go back to different videos and watch him hop around and be the sagittarius he is

Hi! I've been following your site & see you're fairly politically active. I kno this is kind of a wierd question, but I really don't know anyone else who is politically active. I want to help this movement in anyway I can, & I'm not in a position where I can go to a rally & I don't have money (I have written/emailed letters though), and I wanted to ask you if making a website centralizing info on protests would be useful? Thanks for your time and I hope you stay safe!

First of all, thank you for reaching out! Its really awesome that you want to help out, even if you can't do so financially (which I understand - the most I've been able to donate is $50 to the Bail Fund project, and even that was probably more than I could afford rn since I just quit one of my jobs). Protesting, petition signing (and sharing!!!) and supporting black owned businesses both online and in your local area are all ways you can help out without spending a ton of money (buy your pizza you were gonna have for dinner from a black owned pizzeria instead of Dominos or Papa Johns, for example, esp cause both companies support Trump)

Secondly, I am white, so while I can give you generalized advice on protesting or working to be a good ally or staying up to date on current events, I think you should seek out some black bloggers to follow. I unfortunately don't know of any off the top of my head (I'm actually more active with this on Twitter and Tik Tok), so if any of my followers have suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments!!

In regards to creating a website, a bunch of people have already gotten together and put one up! I'm linking it here, please let me know if it doesn't work.

QUICK 1 AM RANT

OKKKAYYYY get ready for a long one!!!

Basically, there’s something about BTS that I ABSOLUTELY hate. And I’m sure many others can agree with me on this one—— it’s the fact BTS is so damn hard to leave.

Now, don’t get me wrong— I’m not trying to say I (or you) have intentionally tried to leave BTS, because this isn’t what I mean by that/am writing about. It’s the fact that there’s something so different about them that is so hard to explain (if at all COULD be explained). It’s the fact that I could forget about any musician or group easily, but can never leave BTS.

Because this is the 64676366th time this has happened to me.

When getting into BTS, I was (of course) really into them; trying to learn their discography and members. It was an exciting part because of the constant learning of new things about the band. Everyday would be learning new songs or getting closer to identifying each member. It was fun and I was highkey-majorly vibing with their music, so it felt like I was actually discovering something that was for me (plus, they were good looking so that added a lot into it lmao).

But, as the longer you get to know them, and the less you have to kind of learn— you kind of just stick around to new updates and things. And, when I heard I was going to their concert (2019 Speak Yourself Tour in Chicago), I got so excited and literally streamed their whole discography because I was so hyped for this concert. And, for the next 3 months and the rest of the spring/summer following the concert, I literally only listened to BTS. It was my “prime ARMY time” and was hardcore into them (also, I kind of was delulu for Jungkook. But we don’t talk about that. I was a seventh grader, so pls spare me).

However, in the fall of 2019, I kind of found a different “genre” of music if you’ll say (I got into 88rising/Rich Brian/Joji). This was mainly because of my recent joining of TikTok and 88rising was a popular topic/favorite among Asian tiktokers that I followed, so I kind of got influenced by that. Anyways, because of my new “discovery”, I kind of drifted from BTS for a bit. Some of these Tiktok creators even made fun of Kpop in a way that seemed like for fun but also kind of mean, but because I was into this at the time, I kind of followed this and you could even see me grow a little embarrassed about my liking of BTS/kpop.

(BTW, kind of disclaimer, whenever I mention “not really being into BTS” or something like that like getting into something else, I don’t mean I completely ditch BTS. It just means I don’t really keep up with a whole lot of things pertaining to BTS— so it’s not like I’m ditching BTS. It just means I’m not following them all the way up to date like I’d usually do).

This “phase” lasted maybe a month, and guess what?? I got back into BTS again LMAO. I forgot how this first time, but I think it was just before New Years when they went to New York for it. I did watch this performance and it really touched me (probably bc it was New Years YK LMAO). So this made me realize how much BTS actually mean to me and I jumped right back into them— then they had their 2020 MOTS comeback (AND I LOVED IT, LET ME TELL YOU— WHEN SHADOW RELEASED, I WAS SO OBSESSED WITH THAT SONG. LIKE LITERALLY STREAMED IT NON-STOP BC IT WAS THAT GOOD).

Now, the same process of this kept happening where I’d either just kind of drift from BTS or find something kind of new. This would even happen with other groups, too. Like I remember being really into NCT for a bit and even contemplated whether NCT was taking over my ult spot for BTS.

THEN GUESS WHAT :D

BTS somehow came back! I don’t remember how this time but they just did.

Then another time of drifting from them came (and this was I think bc I was just getting busy) and I remember this time I was watching Youtube late at night/early in the morning (like 1 or 2 am) and stumbled across the video “This is Jungkook’s First Life” or something like that. The title intrigued me so I gave it a watch.

MHMM YOU GUESSED IT :D this video made me literally cry BC ITS SO TRUE D: (btw jk is my bias). Then after watching this video they came back with PTD and I fangirled over JK’s piercings SM.

Then another of these drifts came, which then leads me to now!

When I heard they were having the four day LA thing, I was happy they were able to have a concert but didn’t actually have an as exiting reaction than I would’ve realistically had. I was really busy with my tennis season, and had just started my first AP class so I was mega stressed out (esp w/ our first AP exam which went pretty bad- BUT ITS OKAY! bc my 2nd/most recent exam actually went pretty good! I studied a lot better this time and ended up getting a perfect on my SAQ AND LEQ and an 11/15 on the multiple choice!!!) Nevertheless, I still tried getting tickets with the MOTS presale but didn’t succeed AT ALL :[ (as many MOTS presale people didn’t either).

This was one part of me getting back into BTS bc I was really bummed I didn’t get tickets. BC going to a BTS concert back in 2019 was one of the best things that happened to me in my life. It’s still my top three if not my number one memory, so even if say I wasn’t “fully” into BTS I’d do anything to go back to one of their concerts. It’s seriously that addicting and FUN.

Then Jungkook’s mere existence was a second part of getting me back into them. He had kind of recently cut his hair, dyed it BLACK (my weakness), started showing off his tattoos, and got more piercings. Basically JK got 10x hotter. (i’m sorry)

But the big thing that got me back in totally (which was today, October 23) was watching that My Universe documentary thing on Youtube (it’s only 12 minutes so not rlly a documentary but idc). That video literally brought tears to my eyes and I realized (yet again) what about BTS I loved about them. I watched that whole video smiling and towards the end with tears. Then following that video, I continued to watch BTS stage mixes and a lot of the songs I played was songs BTS had performed at the concert in 2019 which was a bad idea bc now my concert depression is back HDHDHD

Now I seriously crave going back to their concert and seeing them again. It’s seriously true when I say BTS is like therapy— pls I NEED to see them :(
