******SPOILERS, SO MANY SPOILERS AHEAD.*********
I have so much to say I'm afraid my brain might explode. So I'll try to keep calm despite still being at the verge of tears.
When I first started this book series, I thought it would be the usual light, cutesy fantasy about friendship and family. And oh boy, OH BOY WAS I WRONG.
On a side note, something I'd like to point out I noticed, from the first book to the third, the lighting on the cover progressively gets darker. Of course, representing the story itself as the plot gets darker as well. On the last book, it's still dark, but there's a light coming from Janner, Kalmar and Leeli, like they finally reached sunrise after a long, ruthless night. Something i'm pretty sure was said at some point on the books themselves, about no matter how long the night is the day will always come.
Tumblr media
Anyways. Back to the topic at hand. As the story progressed, I keep growing more and more connected to these characters, and each chapter I rooted more and more for the Jewels Of Anniera.
I'd like to add that I'm an only child, yet, somehow, I can tell Janner is one of the best eldest sibling characters ever written. My whole life I've only watched siblings around me and their relationship with eachother, especially on the eldest's side, and somehow, Janner reminded me of every friend, family member or random stranger I saw on the streets someday that have siblings.
Janner is such a complex character. He is by no means perfect, but he does have a golden heart. One of the things I was most impressed by was how the author described Janner's feelings, whatever it was the longing for his father, or just feeling burdened by his siblings. And yet, no matter what Janner is feeling, the narrator never invalidates his feelings or antagonize him. Janner is a child, a child who went through a lot. He is allowed to miss a father he never had just as he is allowed to sometimes be annoyed for always having to make sacrifices for his siblings. But one of the things I admired the most about Janner (along with everyone else I'm pretty sure) was his character development. At the first book, he'd roll his eyes at the mere thought of having to look after his siblings and saw them as a burden. At the second book, he learned the hard way how much Kalmar and Leeli matter to him, and how it hurts to be away from them. On the third book, he took pride on his title as Throne Warden and role as the eldest sibling, being devoted to protecting the High King and Song Maiden. And at last, on the last book, he leaves pride aside. He doesn't take care of Kalmar and Leeli because it's his duty, because it's honorable, neither because that's what he has always been told to do. He does it because he loves them above all else, because he finally sees how strong the bond the three of them share truly is, because he feels the blessing the Maker has gifted them, and how much stronger they are when they're together.
Janner is a kind, brave, clever, beautiful boy.
And I will forever believe that they managed to get him the water from the First Well to heal him. I will nor accept any other ending.
Kalmar. At first, the typical goofy, troublemaking sibling, more like a comic relief. But again, OHOHOHO BOY... DID THAT CHANGE.
I definetely did not expect for them to take the turn they did with Kalmar. I could tell that he would have some character arc mainly towards maturing and taking responsability, but I DID NOT EXPECT IT TO BE LIKE THAT. Seeing that bright, easy-going, smiley little boy loosing his usual joyful personality when he was fanged, slowly loosing his sanity and growing on his self loathing was really something painful yet beautiful to watch. Like Janner, he also had to learn his lesson on the hardest way possible. An extrovert kid like him, having everyone turning their backs on him and looking at him with hatred, and yet, he learned to keep his head high, like a High King. (the phrase "keep your head held high or else your crown will fall" is literally perfect for him.) And most of all, seeing him risk his life to aid a strange cloven, (that turned out to be his father) grant the Hollowsfolk his forgiveness despite everything they did to him, show mercy and compassion to the Fangs despite everything they did, all of these things make Kalmar an inspiring ruler, and leaves me assured that he will be a great king after all.
Now, Leeli, sweet, pure-hearted Leeli. I will be honest, at first I was afraid that they would make her the typical "overly nice and overly fragile female character", but again, BOY WAS I WRONG. (I don't know how many times I will repeat that, I apologize.) At some points in the books, she didn't have as much spotlight as her brother and I felt like she was kind of being thrown aside. But there's always a turn the books take that make her lack of spotlight at first worth it. So young, the youngest of the Jewels Of Anniera, yet she has seen and done so much. Has a bad leg, needed to use a crutch since she was little, yet that literally never stopped her. She strives to keep up with her brothers, and despite his kind personality she shows she can be festy and even scary when she wants to. (I will never forget that moment in the second book where she was yelling at the trolls and fangs and they were actually eager to obey her lol). She hates it when people assume she's weak and often refuses help, proving she's perfectly capable. But at times, she does need help, which shows us all it's okay to have someone to rely on. She was the link between Janner and Kalmar, no matter how much they argued nor how mad they were at eachother, she was always there for both of them and connecting them back together. She may not be able to fight like her brothers, but she found her own strenght. Her music, something that has always brought joy and hope to others turns out to be an ACTUAL weapon. She kicked a Green Fang to defend her puppy, she was the first one to see the pain and kindess through Peet, Nugget sacrificed himself for her showing how her strong her love for others really is, she stopped A FREAKING DRAGON from killing her grandpa, she led an army of dogs, she defeated countless fangs with nothing but her song. One of the best child female chracters I've seen in a while. She is feminine, has her weak points, but she finds her strenght, not in swords, punches or bows but on a whistleharp. I love her so much I can't describe it.
I love all of these kids so much. I am *proud* of them. I know it's a weird thing to say about fictional characters, but these books just make me feel this way. I can't name a single character I didn't connect or feel empathy with.
Nia, such a strong, independent woman, raising her children having lost her husband and kingdom, yet keep her head held high like the queen she is.
Podo, a man who has sinned, takes shame on them, yet shows that sinners can still be good people. Loves his family above all else, protected and took care of them until his last breath, might have been a little rough around the edges, but always showed a soft spot for his daughter and grandkids.
Artham, a broken man, haunted by the shame of loosing his brother, slowly, but surely, healing. Learning to move on by protecting his nephews and niece, making what was once a weakness a strenght.
Oskar, an old man that was always sitting on the library, letting go of his peaceful life and risking his life to accompany the Wingfeathers through thick and thin.
Sara, who was taken from her family, abused and had all her hope crushed, finding her courage back after meeting Janner and taking after him, being a sisterly figure, leader and queen ti billions of orphan children, and helping them find their strenght and fight for their freedom.
Maraly, a rude strander girl who was raised horribly her whole life by her abusive father, finally finding true love and a true father figure.
Everything about this story has touched me. A broken world taken by an evil monarch who turned to be just another broken soul, filled with hopeless people, people who had surrended to the darkness... Saved by three children, who brought light everywhere they went. A boy with scars, a boy inside a wolf, and a girl with a crutch. Kids who one day were mere peasants, the other were the Jewels Of Anniera, and a year later, heroes of Aerwiar.
I've smiled, I've laughed, I've been shocked, I've been scared, I've been mad, I've cried. I have red lots, and I mean LOTS of books. Different stories, different worlds, different characters. Yet none of them has touched me half as much as The Wingfeather Saga.
It has war, tears, bloodshed, betrayals, sacrifices and sorrow. But it also has love, joy, hope, laughter, wonder and light.
This story definetely deserves way more fans and recognition. I hope that with the new animated series (which I'll definetely watch later) it begins to gain more love.
Tumblr media
Anyways. I really love this in case y'all couldn't tell already. Have a good day/afternoon/evening.

*suddenly remembers she can create polls* *rubs hands together and giggles in a slightly maniacal way*
Alright, alright, let's start out with something simple. Who's your favorite (main*) Wingfeather character?
*Main character in this case means a character who plays a significant, recurring role in the books. I'll make a separate poll for side characters and... oooh, I should make one for the villains, that'd be fun >:)

wingfeather saga incorrect quotes
because I need something to keep my sanity and cause I'm getting sucked back in to the fandom lol
—Kalmar: I'm usually that person who has no idea what's going on.—
—Artham: Ok so, apparently the "bad vibes" I've been feeling are actually severe psychological distress.—
—Janner: Could you be anymore annoying?
Kalmar: Yes.—
—Arundelle: Where’s Artham ?
Leeli: Around.
Arundelle: Around?
Arundelle: You don’t have any idea, do you?
Artham , dropping down from above: Did you know there’s a space above the ceiling?— (He would totally do this and you can't change my mind)
—Nia: That's ridiculous, Esben doesn't have a crush on me.
Artham: Yes he does.
Arundelle: Yes he does.
Esben: Yes I do.—
—Nia, in a room with Esben, Arundelle, and Artham: It’s calm in here.
Nia: It scares me…
—Kalmar: The Ocean is a soup.
Janner:
Janner: Do elaborate.
Kal: What are needed for something to be a soup?
Janner: Erm... Water, salt, some form of vegetation, and personally I prefer some meat in mine.
Kal: *Tilts head*
Janner: The Ocean is a Soup.
Kalmar: The Ocean is a Soup.—
—Janner: I hope you have an explanation for this.
Kalmar: We have three, actually!
Maraly: Pick your favorite.—
—Kalmar: ATTENTION: I HAVE BREACHED CONTAINMENT.
Kalmar: DO NOT PANIC, I AM SIMPLY GETTING A SNACK.—
—Bonifer Squoon: Am I a good person? No. But do I try to be better every single day? Also no.—
anddd Imma stop here cause it's 3 am and I didn't realize how long this was lol. Enjoy

Wingfeather saga incorrect quotes?
ajhgkfalsj okay, sure. (oh my gosh I had too much fun with this I had to make myself stop, looking up incorrect quotes is a hoot xD)
Warning: Quotes reference things from all four books and therefore have out of context spoilers, read at your own risk
I think I’ve tried to do these before but I can only remember the one. The one I remember is:
(that one scene in The Monster in the Hollows be like- ) Janner: if I run and jump at uncle Artham he will most certainly catch me in his arms. Janner: *running at Artham* INCOMING! Artham: NO! I’M HOLDING COFFEE! *drops his mug and catches Janner anyway* Janner: *grinning while Artham holds him and rolls his eyes*
And now have whatever else I come up with:
Kalmar: the risk I took was calculated, but boy am I bad at math
Fang!Kalmar: I am jus a little creature, tha’s it
Tink: Who thinks I can fit 15 marshmallows in my mouth? Janner: You’re a hazard to society Leeli: And a coward. Do twenty.
Kalmar: If I die, my funeral is going to be the biggest party ever and you’re all invited Janner: If? Maraly: Great, the only party I’ve ever been invited to and he might not even die.
Leeli: What's a word that’s a mix between 'sad' and 'mad'? Janner: Disgruntled, miserable, desolated- Kalmar: Smad.
Janner: WHY. why did you give Kalmar a KNIFE?! Artham: I’m sorry. He said he felt unsafe. Janner: Now I feel unsafe! Artham: I’m sorry. Artham: ... would you like a knife?
Maraly: Someone will die. Tink: Of fun! :)
Nia: Okay, truth or dare? Artham: Truth Nia: How many hours have you slept this week? Artham: Artham: ...Dare Nia: Go to bed. Artham: I don’t like this game.
Yurgen: Fool me once, I’m gonna kill you
Maraly: I prevented a murder today. Sara: Really? How’d you do that? Maraly: self control.
Leeli: My life isn’t as glamorous as my wanted poster makes it look like.
(at the end of book 4) Nia: are you okay? Kalmar: no. I want to leave the country and start a new life.
Aurendelle: Physically, yes, I could fight a bird. But emotionally? Imagine the toll. (because of Artham get it? I think I’m funny)
Ouster Will: I’m sick and tired of being called 'mortal' like, you don’t know that. Neither do I. I have never died even ONCE. Nothing has been proven yet. Stop making assumptions. It’s rude.
Kalmar: Mama always says you can be part of the problem or part of the solution, but I happen to believe you can be both.
Maraly: In light of what you did for me, you can hug me for four to five seconds. Gammon: FORTY FIVE SECONDS?! Maraly: No! Four to five seconds! Gammon: Too late!
(I’m going to jail for this one) Artham: Punch me in the face. Podo: Punch you? Artham: Yes, punch me in the face. Didn’t you hear me? Podo: I always hear “punch me in the face” when you’re speaking, but it’s usually subtext.
Janner: Kalmar was banned from the chicken shack, so we had to go out of town to get some. Kalmar: Well, they shouldn’t say “all you can eat” if they don’t mean it. Janner: Kal, you ate a chair.
Nia: Can I offer you a bit of advice? Maraly: Is it about the way I’m dressed? Nia: Yes, but it’s too late for that.
Artham: *Gently taps table* Esben: *Taps back* Aurendelle: What are they doing? Nia: Morse code. Artham: *Aggressively taps table* Esben: *Slams hands down* YOU TAKE THAT BACK-
Gnag the Nameless: Who are you to stand against Gnag the Nameless, destroyer of empires? Kalmar: Kalmar Wingfeather, robber of ATMs!
Sara: Don’t be sad! Artham: Why not? Sara: Sara: I don’t have a good answer.
Leeli: is this juice or perfume? Kalmar: chugs entire contents of bottle Kalmar: Kalmar: that’s perfume.
Artham: What if mayonnaise came in cans Esben: Well that would suck because you can’t microwave metal… Nia: Good morning to everyone except my husband and his brother.
Leeli: would you consider yourself a morning or a night person? Peet: at this point I’m barely even a person
Esben: You must be out of your mind. Nia: What- Esben: Because you’ve been in mine all day Esben: winks with both eyes
Kalmar: what’s with midlife crises? what if someone dies young and they never knew when their midlife crisis was? you never know your midlife point. Janner: that’s why I’ve decided to have an ongoing crisis.
Kalmar: I’m an idiot Janner: Leeli: Sara: Janner: If you’re waiting for us to disagree, this is gonna be a long day.
Sara: you really put aside everything and came all this way for me? how did you even get here so fast? Janner: several traffic violations. Maraly: three counts of resisting arrest. Kalmar: roughly thirteen cans of energy drinks. Leeli: also, that’s not our houndrick.
Leeli, following Janner and Kal: This is such a bad idea. Kalmar: Then why are you coming along? Leeli: One of us needs to be able to talk the cops out of arresting us when this inevitably goes wrong.
okay I'll stop there xD this was so much fun oh my goodness
Bonus Wingfeather Falls one:
Stan: How would you kids like to do something for money? The Wingfeather and Pines kids: …. Janner: Can we have some details first?

Dec 31- Day #1 -A Fortnight of Books
Overall - best new-to-you books read in 2023?
Ooh - we start by firing the big guns, do we? Throwing objectivity to the wind and judging simply by the ones that had the most profound effects on me:
Tumblr media
The King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner
They were right. They were all right. He is Annux. The series is all that it aims to be, and yet this book outstrips the rest. This books is cool water and lavishly red wine in summertime. I just can't believe that the heart of the book is that where we (and Costis) thought there was sloth, cowardice, self-absorption, and even cruelty, there is secretly compassion, fidelity, and the vitality of unearned mercy. And just, you know - "Go to bed, Eugenides."
Tumblr media
Gaudy Night by Dorothy L. Sayers
Oh, the sheer love - and genius - that was clearly poured into this book! While part of me wishes I had read this novel before I visited Oxford this summer, I don't know if I would have loved the novel in the same way if it had been the other way round. Like Harriet, i got to return to Oxford through this book and simultaneously become acquainted truly with Sayers' Wimsical imagination at the height of her powers. I have read a couple of her early Wimsey books, and they are great, but they do pale next to this one. The intelligence, the themes, HARRIET, the fact that it's a good mystery but the mystery is almost a bonus added on to following Miss Vane. And I understand Lord Peter so much better now. And yes, it reads like a love letter to everything in the world that the author loves. The best books often do. And the words, the words! I begin to think Sayers invented the English language, for she can make it do anything she wants in any style, any genre, prose or poetry.
Tumblr media
The Perilous Gard by Elizabeth Marie Pope
I don't know how to praise this one as well as I'd like to. It was one of the first books of 2023, and it was just such a jewel. Everything I love in a retelling and more. The fact that the way she held on to him was reminding him who he was, in the most practical, no-nonsense, down to earth fashion, in the face of the grandiose lies the cultist had told him about himself. This book gave me a bit of the cold iron to have about me, one might say.
Tumblr media
What It Means to Be a Christian by Pope Benedict XVI
This book took on the meaning of suffering, what it means to live in the fulfillment of the covenant, and our individual callings in very few chapters, with an apparent simplicity that belies itself. It's so, so good.
Best series you discovered in 2023?
Tumblr media
The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson
I might have waffled between this series and the Queen's Thief, but I read the first two books of the latter in 2022, which makes it easier. Shall I say, this series is so much greater than the sum of its parts. I imagine it would depend greatly on the individual whether certain aspects in Janner and Kalmar's arcs resonate as they did for me, but oh, I wish they could do so for everyone. These books had me weeping. Kalmar singing the Song of the Ancient Stones - and choosing instead to cling to his true identity with the help of his brother - had a very specific meaning to me, something truly transformative. And I will never forget Podo Helmer, realizing that for the first time in his life, his whole story had been told, and against all hope, he was still loved.
And all this is not to mention the two days of longing it sent me spiralling into. Longing for beauty, for creativity, for God.
Best rereads of the year?
Tumblr media
The Letter to the Romans by Saint Paul the Apostle
This was the year of jumping head first into the wave pool of Romans and simply refusing to get out of the water when the lifeguards said closing time. Honestly, Christ did something this year that changed the way I experience Scripture. Still working through multiple commentaries and mean to continue them into the New Year.
Tumblr media
The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle
Beautiful book. Beautiful, beautiful book, with a heart that's melancholy yet warm and hopeful. So much thinking to do.
Tumblr media
Adorning the Dark by Andrew Peterson
Did me a lot of good in completely different ways than it did last time.
--
Thanks to @idratherdreamofjune, @valiantarcher, and @lover-of-the-starkindler (I believe) for the Fortnight of Books template. Love these questions. I'm going to try to answer the prompts every day.

TWS gang, please, hear me out.
So, I still got wingfeathers in the brain (I'm starting to think I may never get rid of it...) and one of my favorite fairytales has always been Beauty And The Beast.
Since exams week has been draining me, why not come up with another thing to daydream about?
I present you... The-Wingfeather-Saga-Beauty-And- The-Beast AU!
The Jewels And The Beast for short.
Or Jewels and The Cloven.
Or Jewels and The Birdman.
You'll see.... Just bear with me.
I'm debating in whetever Esben or Artham should be the "beast". In one hand, it would make sense for it to be Esben since he's all bear-like but I would also like it to be Artham since we have more information about him and what he's like. But either way, the "Beauty" is none other than our favorite jewels, Janner, Kalmar and Leeli.
Here's the idea: so, the kids still live with Podo and Nia in Glipwood. However, in the Glipwood forest, there's an abandoned castle. (Bonus points if Artham is the "beast" cause then it could be Peet's castle only bigger and creepier) Podo goes on a trip for whatever reason, and ends up being taken by the oh-so-horrible beast of Glipwood. Danny, the horse, comes back to the Igiby cottage where Nia and the kids get nerve struck when they find the horse without its rider. Nia leaves to get help to find Podo leaving the kids alone, and one thing leads to another, they decided to go to the forest by themselves to rescue their grandpa because main characters moment. There, they meet the "beast", and bargain to stay as prisioners in Podo's place. Podo obviously tries to fight, but ends up having to flee, leaving the kids as captives in the castle.
The "talking objects" are the Glipwooders, plus a few other characters from other regions. We got Oskar, who's a book, (are you surprised) and basically takes the role of Cogsworth. We also got Addie and Joe, Maraly, Sara, Thron, Rudric and others. (No, I haven't thought of what objects they would all be, sorry. You can suggest in the comments tho!) As the story goes by, it focuses mainly on the kids bonding with either beast! Esben or beast! Artham, and teaching about kindness and stuff. The "rose" would be a set of three actual jewels, that may or may not represent the kids themselves. Meanwhile Gnag, will be the one to take the role as Gaston. Unlike in TWS, Gnag will pretend to be the good guy and the whole town loves him, (like Gaston and the villagers) so when Nia and Podo announce that the kids have been captured by a beast, he will try to play the hero and claiming he will "rescue them". However, what Nia Podo and the Glipwooders don't know, is that Gnag is the one who helped to turn Esben or Artham into a beast in the first place, along with the Stone Keepers (who take the role of the Enchantress). Gnag knows that Janner, Tink and Leeli are the Jewels Of Anniera, and has only been waiting for the right moment to strike, to capture them and begin his plan on taking over Skree, the Hollows, and the lost Shining Isle, which everyone believes to only be a legend.
Anyways that's all I got for now.
Maybe I'll write a small fic or something on that in the future...
Maybe.
Thank you for reading my rambling!

THE SIXTH EPISODE CAME OUT GUYS!!!!
I can't believe it, how long are we gonna have to wait for Season 2!?
AAAHHHHGHGGGAHAHH
Don't mind me screaming internally like a maniac.
Nia sang my love has gone across the sea!? I thought we wouldn't hear that until season 3 or whenever they come out with Book 3 on screen. Or maybe it'll come than too. Idk, but I'm very happy about it. I mean, MY EYES LEAKED and I'm kinda hoping my family didn't notice but someone probably did
AND PEET! MY BOY! He gave too much water to Nugget (AND IT WAS EXACTLY LIKE MOZART THE MEERKITTENS STORY!!) And like, it incorporated all of Peet's (and probably Artham's) awkwardness and fierceness and protectiveness and As jsdbjsosjeieu
Also Peet was prolly done with Podo and Nia not saying anything about the kids being the jewels so he just jumped out there and was like “you are :D". he's so precious
They still included Esbens letter! I mean it's probably obvious that they would , but still
Also the First Book looked different than I expected but I absolutely loved its design. And Esben's sketchbook!! Leeli's whistleharp!!
I know, I know, you all are probably like “Arent you on a break?? What're you doing here??" But, uh, I just had to say something about this episode

Time for me to ramble about The Wingfeather Saga to try and distract myself from my depression and the fact that I’m sick and miserable!
~*Spoilers*~ for all the books
*
Okie so in the 3rd Wingfeather show episode Tink calls Peet old and I just. I just wanna address that for a second because it’s been poking around in my mind ever since. xD
So here’s what I think the ages of the adults in the Wingfeather Saga are as based on the kid’s ages, how long it’s been since Anniera fell and logic:
Let’s start with Esben and Nia. Since their kiddos were very little when Anniera fell (Janner was only three) it follows that they were also quite young, I’m gonna say mid-20′s, around 24-25. Nine years later that’d make them 33-34 years old, which seems logical.
I headcanon that Artham and Esben have the same age gap as Janner and Kal, so assuming Artham is only a year older than his brother that’d put him at about 25-26 (my age ;-;) when Anniera fell and 34-35 during the events of the series. That’s. That’s not old. Even if you headcanon him as several years older than Esben (say 3 or so) he’d still be in his 30′s.
(I’m not knocking Tink btw, he’s 11 and everyone’s old when you’re a little kid, especially weird guys with whitish gray hair that you don’t know are related to you.)
I don’t have any concrete idea of how old Podo is and it bothers me, Leeli in book 4 keeps saying he’s like, really old, but she’s also 9 so that’s probably not reliable. Assuming Nia’s in her 30′s during the books Podo is probably(?) in his mid-late 60′s. (Especially since we know he did a LOT when he was young, he ran with the Stranders, he was a pirate, and when he came to the Hollows he said he never sailed again until he traveled to Anniera for Nia’s wedding). I feel like Wendolyn was younger than him by maybe 5-6 years since she isn’t married when they meet, despite being an attractive and well-to-do young woman.
Mentioning grandparents, has anyone else ever wondered where the HECK Artham and Esben’s parents are? Like, they’re barely even mentioned in the books, I think we actually learn their names from a genealogy Janner gets from Oskar/the Great Library. And this is especially weird when you consider that Podo and Wendolyn are actively helping Nia and the kids escape when Anniera falls. That, and Esben is king already when Anniera falls and unless their parents had kids when they were older (which is possible) they won’t be that old and Idk why his dad wouldn’t still be ruling. Like, why pass the throne off to your 20-something son if you don’t have to? Why not train him more?
So here’s what I think happened to Jru and Nala Wingfeather: I think Bonifer killed them. Not Bonifer himself, of course, but I think he arranged their deaths in some way. It would be pretty easy, tbh, to have an “accident” where they died. All you’d need to do would be hire some pirates to attack a ship they’re sailing on, or sabotage the ship so that it sank once it set sail.
Bonifer would have several good motives for this, I think. First and foremost, it’s going to be much easier for him to trick Esben, a brand-new, very young, king into believing his lies than an older, more experienced, king and queen. Not that I think Esben (or Artham) was an idiot, but Bonifer has had a really long time to learn how to lie and be a terrible person, and the younger you are the more likely you are to fall for stuff like that (generally speaking, there are always exceptions. like, I don’t think Maraly would have been easily tricked by Bonifer’s shenanigans because she grew up with the Stranders who are a bunch of lying tricksters. Meanwhile, Janner was tricked because he grew up among trustworthy and loving adults. Same thing with Esben and Artham).
Second, it’s possible that Jru and/or Nala had learned something that made them suspicious of Bonifer or were close to finding something about Gnag/the Fangs that would have ruined their plans, so Bonifer had them killed. Again, it’s really easy to set up an “accident”, especially when sailing is involved.
And finally, Bonifer just. really hates the Wingfeathers. Because he’s got issues. So of course he’d try to cause them all the suffering he could.
So, yeah, that’s why I think Esben and Artham’s parents aren’t around/aren’t mentioned in the books. Also my headcanons about ages.

Hey, guys. So, I dived into The Wingfeather Saga recently, LOVED the first book, and right now I'm currently reading the second one. I didn't dive into the fandom yet especially not on tumblr so I won't get spoiled, but I need to ask y'all a question.
Why are the characters sometimes refering to Tink as "Kalmar"? Is it like, his second name or something? Something they call the kings? Or is it something else I missed? Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm just confused, they called him that like three times now and I don't really get it😭😭😭 can someone explain to me pls?
