buddie poetry event!
hi! i'm @swiftiediaz and i love, love reading poetry and writing silly little poems myself! especially about these two gay firefighters. so, i thought it'd be fun to make a mini event for all poetry authors in the fandom.
the idea is, here's a list of 20 prompts, one for each day of may up to the 20th. of course, you don't have to write for all of them— just if the inspiration strikes! feel free to pick and choose whichever prompt brings you joy! and interpret it however you like! this is to celebrate creativity, after all.
(some extras!)
• you can combine your poem with edit/gifset if you please
• there will be no signs ups! just tag the blog and use the #poemsbybuddie and i'll reblog your creation here!
• your poem can be nsfw but make sure it's tagged properly
• if you have a doubt or anything, you can send an ask or reach me directly!

@poemsbybuddie day 15: confession
your sister told me i should confess to you
but i was raised catholic, and the word confession
makes goosebumps creep along my arms.
—not the way you do, when your hand brushes mine
and static jumps from you to me
but like the scrape of nails creeping along a chalkboard.
i was raised catholic. i was raised to confess my sins,
every dirty, rotten thought that made a home within my mind
every shameful impulse and forbidden desire.
confession is not a word i want associated with you and me.
and besides—
i don’t know if i could confess to you, even if i wanted to.
it’s not a confession if you already know.

Buddie hiatus poetry event
Prompt 7 - years from now
Thirst - an original poem by me
You can find my other Buddie poetry here
Full poem for easier reading under the cut
And just in case
there is no water in the future
I look at you
and drink it all in
Your bright laughter
Your silly smile
Your shining eyes
And as I feel her hand on my thigh
I wonder
If years from now
I will have died of thirst

fading fast; how could we ever last
i looked into your fading eyes, wondering if i’d get to see them another day
the ones that were slowly dimming, pulling you away
everything was turning to a sea of red
you were almost gone, though not yet dead
i reached for you, but you didn’t reach back
that’s when everything, faded to black

@poemsbybuddie day 3: car drives
Your hands on the steering wheel, eyes on the road.
“Seatbelt,” you remind me.
I prefer it this way - you driving, me in the passenger seat.
It's one of the only times I can look at you, study your features.
I've learned the planes of your cheekbones, the angle of your jaw.
I've watched the laugh lines on your face grow and deepen over the years.
I've seen the beginnings of age written on your face and hands.
There is nothing more beautiful than a life lived, survival.
So you drive, and I look.
We talk and reminisce over the weeks, months, years that have passed.
It hasn't always been easy or safe or without close calls,
But it’s the best journey I never saw coming.

lightning strikes ⚡
a buddie poem
Three minutes, seventeen seconds
Without a heartbeat
Without a lifeline
Lightning strikes and the world stops
My world stops
Time stands still
For three minutes, seventeen seconds
And then your heart came back to life
With a whisper
But it was enough to restart mine
Because my heart doesn't work without you
Your life and mine
Connected by strings
Unbreakable golden things
Maybe you are my lifeline
Am I yours too?
Three minutes, seventeen seconds
I can't remember a moment
Yet each one is burned in me
Like fire, and flame
All I feel is blame
I can't hold the weight
But it weighs down on me
I can't even look at you
I can't relive those moments
Three minutes, seventeen seconds
Threatening to become more
An endless number
And I can't bear the thought
So my insides I find wrought
With guilt and blame and pain
I can't lose you
Not without seeing your eyes again
Ageless and blue
While you're body ages around them
I need you here with me for years
Dull my fears
And grow old with me
I can't imagine anyone else
Three minutes, seventeen seconds
Is all it took to know
That no time would be enough
Forever pales
Next to my need for you
Wake up
And I'll say it
I promise I'll say it
What I never did
All the feelings I hid
Lightning strikes
And I can't go back
So come back to me

@poemsbybuddie day 1: home
i built my home on shaky ground
on hollow foundations cracking under the weight
of not enough not good enough
not like that
not you
i built my home from rotten wood
trying to hide behind the crumbling walls
of easy smiles, just for a whiles
just for the night
just for now
i filled my home with shiny brittle things,
hiding from my
reflection in the cracked shards
of the smiles of strangers in bars
or the windows of passing cars
until he saw me and i
solidified
