Don't mind me, just making a gym leader AU
Ramblings about it below the cut
They run the Nimbasa gym. It's a dual-type gym that swaps every day, much like the rock/ice or fighting/ghost gyms in Galar (if this was an actual in-game thing, Emmet would be the gym leader in White/White 2 and Ingo would be the leader in Black/Black 2. For obvious reasons)
Ingo is a ghost type specialist, and he leans into it hard. He acts distant and, y'know, haunted, until the challenger finishes. Win or lose, he suddenly becomes very excitable. People who only know him through the gym challenge are quite surprised when they meet him outside of it, since he's as energetic as Emmet
Goth Ingo rights. Yes he wears makeup to make him look paler and black eyeliner. Yes he paints his nails black. He takes an hour in the bathroom getting ready and it pisses Emmet off
Ingo's team: Chandelure, Jellicent (m & f), Golurk, Cofagrigus
Emmet is an electric type specialist, but persona doesn't really change. He's energetic as it is so he doesn't need to amp himself up to fit the role (yes that was a deliberate pun)
Emmet's team: Eelektross, Galvantula, Zebstrika, Emolga, Stunfisk
Both teams vary depending on how many badges the challenger has
The gym challenge is a mine cart maze! Flip the switches to change tracks, and the incorrect one takes you to one of the gym trainers
On the weekends they hold unofficial multi-battle challenges. Just for fun. They swap their pokemon with each other
On their off days, they still function as the station masters of Gear Station. I couldn't take their trains away man. That's just cruel
They just took their station master uniforms (their canon outfits) and spiced them up for their gym leader uniforms
I'm still uncertain what Elesa and Shauntal are doing here, aside from being a model and an author, since the Nimbasa gym has been overrun by two train nerds and Ingo's stolen the ghosts. Elesa is still friends with the twins though
PLA Stuff:
Ingo gets eebied to Hisui in his gym leader uniform, so he arrives looking scruffy as hell, and then it just gets worse
He's also stuck in Work Mode, so he constantly acts sullen and distant, which isn't helped by him dissociating 23/7
He walks up the mountain, leading the protag, and then he walks down a changed man. The proper pokemon battle with the MC snapped him out of Work Mode, and now finally everyone gets to meet the properly animated Ingo. He still dissociates a lot though
Ingo still has an affinity for ghost types. His team is: Zoroark, Froslass, Gengar, Drifblim, Mismagius, Rotom. Eventually, the protag goes "Huh, he really likes ghost types" and gives him Typhlosion
Emmet is having A Time, naturally. He closes the gym on the days Ingo would run it. Idk, he's sad, but as in most of my stuff, he's coping as healthily as he can manage

Huh, it’s been a while since I’ve made a Tumblr exclusive one-shot.
Anyway, this is a belated birthday gift for a friend of mine, who happens to like Zeraora and Toxtricity, so this was a story that involved them doing some cute interactions together. Since I didn’t know which Toxtricity was preferred, though, I included both, and the romantic vibes are on the slightly subtle side.
But, this also made for good practice on writing Toxtricity characters, since I’m planning on using two like this for my fanfics in the future. Hopefully “Amp” and “Low” are cute names for them based on their forms, but if not, I tried.
Oh, and a modern setting, which has definitely been missing for a minute! It’s fun putting Pokemon back in that kind of a setting.
It’s not very long, I suppose it has shades of hurt/comfort, but otherwise, just some simple friendship/romance fluff.
Anyway, the story will be below the cut! So, enjoy!
...
...
Slightly outside of a city, a concert lit up the night along a small stage in the park. A crowd cheered as the band upon the stage hit their song’s crescendo, jamming as sparks flew up from the stage. They drifted through the air, and fizzled out, sparkling as they cascaded away into the wind.
Lowering their arms from their bodies, the electrical salamander pair smirked as their fans wildly called out for them.
“Yeah, yeah, let ‘em hear it,” called the black and white badger from the center stage. “Come on, give it up for the Toxtricity brothers!” He grinned as the audience erupted into roars for the duo. “You think their dueling strumming was good, you should see them really harmonize. And hey, one more time, give it up for Rillaboom on the drums!” They cheered again for the ape in the back, who waved his wooden sticks around as he flipped back his grassy hair. “There ya go, nice, nice! Once again, we want to thank you lot for coming out. I’ve been Obstagoon…” He chuckled as screams and cheers broke out for him. “Wow…I wish mum and employers would be that excited,” Obstagoon joked, earning laughter as well. “Anyhow, I’ve been Obstagoon, and we’ve got just one more song tonight! It’s a bit of a mash-up cover mix, but we think it’s banging, so let’s rock out one more time!”
Waiting for a moment, Obstagoon grinned back at his band, as the brothers lifted their arms to the protrusions on their chests and Rillaboom spun his drumsticks around. Knocking back the last swig of water from his bottle, Obstagoon crushed it and tossed it across the stage, as his dark and sharp-clawed weasel manager caught it. Slowly, the applause died down.
Inhaling in, Obstagoon gave a heavy scream out as his band started blasting their music. He stood close to the microphone and held up his arm as his legs kept the beat from the song.
 “Only want one future,
Only want one world,
We’ve got our beastly rhythm rolling,
And you will know our names!”
As Obstagoon continued singing the lyrics, the band played harder to match his energy, and the audience reflected their excitement.
One feline member, however, folded his arms and bit his lip. His bright blue eyes stuck on the strumming lizard pair, shifting back and forth between the two.
“YEAH, ROCK ON OBSTAGOON,” shouted a goblin-like demon with long black hair. Grinning, he turned to his friends. “He’s got to be the best singer ever!”
“He’s pretty cool,” complimented the sandy brown crocodile with him, tapping his foot as his tail swayed. “But I can’t deny I love those jamming reptile dudes.”
“Both of you shut up,” snapped a pale monster with horns that shaped into giant jaws. She swayed around and lifted her arms back up. “This is going to be my new favorite song!”
Shaking his head as he listened to them, the tiger-like creature shuffled away from them. He stumbled back once three small rodents jumped around in the next nearest space.
“STRUM THOSE CHESTS, TOXIBROS, WHOO!” A white and gray spiny rat rolled around and bounced, as her spiky fur shot out from her body. “JAM MY DUDES!”
“Toge, I don’t think they can hear you,” reasoned her blue and white squirrel friend.
“WHO CARES?! ROCK ON, TOXIBROS, JAAAM!”
Shrugging, the squirrel jumped up too. “SHOOT MORE SPARKS OUT, LIGHT IT ALL UP!”
Their third rodent friend, a hamster with black and yellow fur, abruptly changed form, as the once dark eyes became furiously red. “I AM SO HUNGRY!!”
“HA, YEAH! PEKO, ISN’T THIS GREAT?! WHOO!”
Wincing at the three, the feline fellow backed away, bumping a white and red rabbit that swayed around. He glanced at the bipedal tiger, who muttered an apology as he strolled aside.
“Hey, wait up!” A tall blue chameleon slipped around the yellow tiger and scooped up his lanyard, eying the pass on it. “You’re a VIP too?”
“Huh?” The cat rubbed behind his neck. “Oh, uh, yeah.”
“Nice! Us too, and we’re going to bug the boys after the show. Name’s Inteleon!” He pointed back at his rabbit friend. “He’s Cinderace, and we’re good mates of the drummer.”
“Oh, hi,” the tiger barely managed over the music. “Im a friend of the guitar guys. Uh, and I’m Zeraora.”
“Wicked, you’re one of those super rare types,” chimed in Cinderace. He beamed to the cat. “Feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before…”
 “Really?!”
“Mm…nah, just tonight probably,” determined Cinderace, as Zeraora deflated. “Thought you might’ve been with the others. That lot over there is a pretty funny bunch to eye up too.”
Following where the rabbit pointed, Zeraora blinked at two shorter pixie-like creatures, who danced and spun around before a much taller black ape with green vines wrapped around his wrists. Though the ape looked rather unimpressed, he seemed to sway and tap his feet to the rhythm.
 “You friends with them?”
“Uh…no, I’ve never seen them before.”
“Ah, ok, that’s cool then.” Cinderace grinned. “Means that we have less of a crowd for later.”
“Yeah, the three of us and those two boyfriends over there.” Inteleon pointed to a muscular reptilian monster pumped his fists alongside a fox-like fellow with long whiskers that twirled a spoon. “The bigger one is Machoke, and the shorter fellow is Kadabra. They’re buddies with Obstagoon.”
 “Huh.”
“Yeah, kind of an odd sort, but pretty friendly.” Inteleon shrugged. “Anyway, we’ll see you a bit later on, then. Cheers!”
They waved as Zeraora nodded and wandered for an open space in the crowd once more.
 …
Later after the last song, the crowd dispersed rather quickly. Zeraora watched the various parties that shuffled out, with his eyes falling on the oddball group that Cinderace pointed out before.
“Oh my gosh, Victini,” clamored the ballerina-like pixie. “That concert was amazing!”
“Right?! They have such cool music!” The rabbit-like pixie hopped back and forth on her feet. “Zarude, wasn’t it cool?”
“It was different, so, I guess,” decided the ape with vines. He covered his flushing face as he glanced away. “Frontman definitely made the show.”
“Ooh, are you crushing on Obstagoon?”
 “Nuh-no.”
 “Totally is. Dead-on, Meloetta.”
 “Shut up!”
The shorter duo laughed as they levitated into the air and danced around. Rolling his eyes, Zarude stormed off, as the duo floated and laughed around him. Zeraora watched them for a moment and sighed.
 “Excuse me, mister?”
Zeraora whirled around and wildly looked around for a moment. He blinked and slowly glanced down at the tiny hamster before him.
“Have you seen any good snack stands?”
“Hm? Oh, um…” Zeraora pointed across to a small cart nearby with a snowy ape before it. “That looks like an ice cream vendor.”
“Ah, that would be yummy.” The hamster bowed before scampering off. “Thank you!”
“Sure thing!” Zeraora smirked. “Cute kid.”
Twisting back, the hamster gained a darker and sinister glare, as Zeraora flinched and took a step back.
 “DON’T EVER CALL ME CUTE.”
 “Right, right, sorry!”
With that, the hamster relaxed and switched back to the normal form. “That’s ok! Bye bye!” And once more, the hungry hamster hurried off and Zeraora carefully watched and waited until he was alone again.
A heavy sigh escaped him, and he lowered his head as he dangled his arms. Slowly picking himself back up, the Thunderclap monster checked the empty stage.
“Hey, you’re that tiger guy the others mentioned!”
Blinking at the new voice sounding, Zeraora turned to Machoke and Kadabra, as approached him.
“See Kadabra? They were right, he’s real.”
 “Um.”
“Machoke, honestly!” Kadabra pinched his forehead and dropped his shoulders. “Sorry, we didn’t really meet before, but we’re friends of Obstagoon.”
“Ah ok, the other two told me about you guys,” recalled Zeraora. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Zeraora, a friend of the Toxtricity brothers.”
“Nice to meet you as well. I’m Kadabra,” he introduced, “and you probably heard me, but this big guy is Machoke.”
 “Hey there! It’s a pleasure!”
 “Likewise.”
“We were just on our way to go meet up with the band,” revealed Kadabra. “Are you going to see them too?”
“Well, they gave me this pass for that—”
“Come on, Kadabra, that was a silly question,” chastised Machoke. “Of course he’s going!”
“He could have had other plans!”
“Then why would he be here still?”
 “Um.”
“Sorry.” Kadabra leaned against Machoke and rolled his eyes. “He just likes to bully me sometimes.”
“Do not!” Machoke slumped down over Kadabra, propping his chin over his head. “Just a little bit of teasing.”
 “Uh-huh.”
“It’s true! And you’re so fluffy too…” Machoke chuckled as he brushed Kadabra’s mustache and tail. He grinned at his partner’s blushing and then returned his attention to the cat. “Hey, Zera, come with us, and we’ll all head over!”
 “Oh, um. Sure.”
As Machoke lifted off of him, Kadabra studied Zeraora for a moment. “It’s strange, but I feel like I’ve seen you in particular somewhere before.”
 “Are you sure?”
“Hmm. Now that you question me, less so.” Kadabra shrugged. “Ah well. It’s still nice meeting you all the same.”
Kadabra smiled as Machoke scooped up his hand and guided him along. Zeraora watched the pair as they chattered to one another, though he quietly ambled behind them, clutching his arm and lightly rubbing it.
Heading behind the stage, the three came across the band members packing up. Rillaboom lifted his drum for the truck, and listened to Cinderace excitedly babble to him, while Inteleon leaned against him and inspected Rillaboom’s sticks. Obstagoon spoke on the phone while the Toxtricity brothers listened to their manager’s directions on loading equipment.
Spying the other three arrive, Obstagoon finished up his conversation, hung up the phone, and waved to Machoke and Kadabra as he strolled to meet them.
“Sweethearts Supreme made it to our show! How about that?” He winked and laughed as the two blushed and looked away from him. “Aw, come on, I’m only teasing. It’s great to see you both.”
“You act like we wouldn’t come out to see you,” mocked Kadabra. “We don’t get that carried away on our dates.”
“Could’ve fooled me,” teased Obstagoon. “So, so! Anyone cute out there for me tonight?”
“Kind of hard to tell when everyone around us was just screaming your name,” admitted Machoke. “You might just be a bit too popular.”
“No such thing!” Obstagoon folded his arms and beamed for a moment, but then deflated. “…Come on, no one noteworthy?”
“We did our best listening out for you, but Machoke’s right, and it’s difficult in a crowd,” reiterated Kadabra. “Why can’t we just take you to a bar or a club?”
“Because those are for after I find someone and we can double date,” insisted Obstagoon. “It’s no fun just picking up someone random.”
“So, you’d choose a fan instead.”
“Yeah!” He grinned. “We’d have common interests right away!”
“Well, how about a monkey?” Zeraora waited as Obstagoon finally focused on him. “I think one was kind of interested in you.”
“What, my drummer buddy, Rillaboom?” Obstagoon chuckled. “He’s cute, but I think he’s got his hands a bit full.” He shrugged. “Fortunately for him, he’s got two of them.”
“No, I meant this dark ape in the audience,” detailed Zeraora.
“With the two little ones bouncing around?”
 “Yeah, those were his friends.”
“Ooh, that makes more sense! Still, he could probably be a good dad…” Obstagoon blinked and shook his head. “Wow, I’ve been rather rude. Name’s Obstagoon, as you likely know!” He outstretched his hand and stuck it out for Zeraora to take, and quickly shook it once he did. “Big hands and good grip, nice! What’s your name, mate?”
“Zeraora,” he introduced. “Uh, I’m friends with—”
“Hey, you came!” One of the Toxtricity brothers hurried over and threw his arms around Zeraora. “So cool, great to see you!”
“Yay, we’re all here,” murmured the other brother, ambling over to the pair. He lifted his arms and dropped onto the embracing pair. “Group hug, hooray…!”
“Amp, Low, is this the one you two always go on about?” Obstagoon tilted his head as he folded his arms, while Zeraora perked up at the question.
“Yeah, he’s super cool,” praised Low. “His movements are so quick that they sound like thunder.”
“He’s great at guitars and percussion, and even makes his own special effects,” piped up Amp. “And he’s pretty cute too, right?”
 “Guys…”
“Aw, look at him blush!” Obstagoon snickered. “But he makes a pretty good crowd scout too! Maybe I should fire my minions and sign him on instead!”
“Please fire us,” muttered Machoke and Kadabra together.
 “Just for that, I refuse!”
 “Ugh…”
“Shouldn’t have made friends with someone famous!”
“You weren’t famous when we met,” teased Kadabra as he stuck his tongue out.
“And you don’t even pay us for all our hard work,” piled on Machoke.
“Blah, blah…” Obstagoon observed the Toxtricity brothers with Zeraora for a moment. Scooping up Machoke and Kadabra’s hands, he tugged them along. “Actually, I want you two to come meet our manager before he kills himself over all of that equipment. His name is Weavile!”
The badger dragged his friends off to the truck, where Weavile was struggling to lift a large speaker in.
Both Toxtricity brothers smiled to Zeraora, who reflexively returned it to them. However, he glanced down to the ground and rubbed behind his head. Low nudged him a bit, while Amp picked up his cheeks to make a smile. All three laughed a bit, but Zeraora slowed into a sigh, and his friends stopped as well.
“So, um. Why did you guys want to invite me?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Amp placed his hands on his hips. “We wanted to see if you would enjoy our group!”
“We want to try getting you to come to more shows too,” chimed in Low, lightly strumming at his protrusions.
 “But why?”
“…To…see how much you liked them,” enlightened Low. He tilted his head. “You know, like, to see if you wanted to join in.”
 “What?”
“Haven’t we bugged you about this a lot before?” Amp folded his arms and hastily tapped his foot. “You used to play music with us too, and we want to see if we could fit you in with our group!”
 “Plus you’re fun and nice.”
 “Those too!”
“Do you guys really think that?” Zeraora raised an eyebrow.
 “Of course!”
 “Why wouldn’t we?”
 “Uh…it’s nothing important,” downplayed Zeraora.
“Come on, you can tell us!” Amp picked up Zeraora’s hand and swayed it back and forth. “You could use it!”
“If it’s a secret, we’ll keep it safe,” reassured Low, as he clung to Zeraora’s other arm. “And if it’s not, we want to listen anyway.”
“Well…I haven’t really been all that great at standing out almost ever,” divulged Zeraora. “None of my music or performances did well, definitely nothing like what you guys do.” He deflated and stared down at the ground. “People keep acting like they recognize me, but it’s mostly because I’m considered a very rare type, not because of my old works or style.”
 “Wait, really?”
 “That’s what we love!”
“Nobody else seems to,” furthered Zeraora. “In fact, I’ve been trying to give up at performing altogether, which is why I came here to support you guys. I wanted to see you both do better and get out there more.” Zeraora shrugged. “I’m mostly irrelevant.”
“Who told you that?!” Electricity sparked from Amp as he pounded his fists together.
“That wasn’t very nice at all,” agreed Low, closing his eyes and shaking his head.
“Nobody told me that,” corrected Zeraora. “It’s just…what I picked up on.”
“Oh. …Huh…we never thought that about you at all.” Low picked up Zeraora’s hand. “In fact, I always thought you were really cool, and you inspired me a lot of times. Plus, you always notice even small things with us, like not just with music, but how we’re feeling, so that makes me feel great.”
 “Really?”
“Yeah, me too!” Amp scooped up Zeraora’s other hand. “I really had no idea that you didn’t seem popular. I always thought everyone liked you, but maybe that’s because Low and I like you a lot!” He grinned. “You’re so supportive with our music, and seeing you around always brightens up my day!”
“Wow, I…didn’t know that,” realized Zeraora. “That’s…you guys, that was really sweet…”
 “Sure, of course!”
 “Anytime for you.”
“Does that mean you’d consider joining us sometime?” Amp tugged Zeraora’s arm closer to his chest. “I’d love to have you around!”
“Me too, I want you to be with us,” insisted Low, as he pulled Zeraora closer to him. “I think we’d play better and be happier together.”
“Ah, well, I…um…” Zeraora blushed and smiled. “I guess I should think it over first, but…I’m pretty sure I would like that, if the others think it’s ok.”
 “Of course they will!”
 “We’ll convince them.”
Together, the trio laughed as they hugged again, and spent the next half hour talking and catching up on their recent activity. Once Weavile insisted on heading out for a late dinner, the band members quickly invited their friends along, and everyone took off for a nice night.
...
...
Yay, cute and wholesome ending!
I was actually planning on being totally overt with the Toxtricity bros wanting to date Zeraora and argue over him at first before Zeraora hinted at them trying a poly relationship, but it seemed a bit jarring compared to the heartwarming moments they were having, so I kept that part out. (I didn’t want it to seem like the brothers had ulterior motives for being nice to Zeraora.)
Obstagoon was another character that I wanted to test out a little bit. Hopefully he was pretty cute too, since I wanted him to play off my typical Machoke and Kadabra type of couple. It had the Fighting-Psychic-Dark triangle, so I was too tempted to pass that up. (Jock, Nerd, Punk, whoo!)
Writing all three of them as rock-stars is pretty much what they’re designed for, so that’s good, but I’ll have to consider how to transition them for medieval times and potential alternative roles, lol.
Some other Gen 8 Pokemon were included too, since I’m totally out there with them and Gen 7, and need to get into using them. I even tried out Zarude for fun, even though they’re not available, as of writing.
Also, I know nothing of music, so if this isn’t a super authentic band hangout kind of thing for you, my bad, but I’m not very familiar with that for a writing genre by any means, lol, so, sorry!
Lyrics were swiped from Fire Emblem Heroes and titles from Xenoblade Chronicles, since I wasn’t very lively on making lyrics. Lazy, I know, but oh well.
Anywho, just a simple and fluffy fanfic for a friend, who I hope enjoyed it! And everyone else that reads too. So, thank you for reading!

2011 in review: Pokemon Black and White
Although these games came out on September 18, 2010 (and I did get a Japanese copy of White and play it on my not region-locked DS lite), they didn’t come out in the US until March 6th, 2011, so I’m counting them as my game of the year for 2011.
My experience with Black and White was very special. Like many people my age, I was obsessed with Pokemon from 1999 to 2001 when Red/Blue and Gold/Silver were coming out here in the west. I was in high school when Gold/Silver came out, and after that the fervor kind of died down. I was aware of Ruby/Sapphire when they came out, but didn’t have the means to buy a GBA at the time, and the same was true for Diamond/Pearl and the DS. A mystery gift-giver and HGSS got me back into Pokemon, but it was Black and White that really got me back into Pokemon. It was the first new generation since Gold/Silver that I got to be on the hype train for. It was the first one I was on the internet during and let me tell you, each new reveal of a Pokemon or character or location was a big hit of dopamine. I was hooked.
I had been into cosplay for years by then, of course, and I had done a couple of Pokemon cosplays but never anything serious. And then May’s Corocoro leaked and I saw the design for Touko/White/Hilda and went “I can make that in two weeks” and I did, and there’s a reason she was my favorite cosplay of 2010.
HGSS may have kick-started the decade for me and made the 2010s solidly the Decade of Pokemon, but Black and White really amped it up. I was at Anime Weekend Atlanta the weekend that they came out in Japan and one of the vendors just so happened to have a few copies, and I just so happened to have a non region-locked DS Lite to play it on. I knew enough Japanese to kind of grasp what was going on, and I had played Pokemon enough to be able to play blindfolded, so I played through the game entirely in Japanese and it was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life. I played until my battery was exhausted and the impatiently waited for it to recharge so I could keep playing. I’m sure I did other things that weekend, but once I got my hands on that Japanese copy of White, that’s all I wanted to think about.
I stumbled across new Pokemon and characters and locations, and I’ve been chasing those highs for years now. Sword and Shield came close, but only because I intentionally stayed off of the internet for three weeks to avoid spoilers.
Playing it in English was of course a lot of fun, too. I made all of the opposite choices in my copy of Black, including playing as the guy, picking Tepig instead of Oshawott, and trying to only use Pokemon I never picked up in my Japanese playthrough.
Like I said in my HGSS post, I understand why many people consider those games to be the best in the franchise, but Black and White absolutely are my favorites. Black and White have some of the best characters in the entire franchise. The main characters have great designs. Cheren and Bianca are great rivals. This gen gave us our first female professor! Sword and Shield may have been more dramatic about it, but this gen was the first time there were different gym leaders depending on the version with Iris and Drayden! We had iconic, memorable gym leaders and elite 4. And, of course, the VILLAINS. Ghetsis is one of the most iconic villains in the franchise, and EVERYBODY loves N. (And if you don’t like N, you can catch these hands.)
And speaking of N and Ghetsis, Black and White had THE best story in the franchise. What have the villain teams done since Black and White? NOTHING. Team Flare was a joke, Team Skull weren’t even evil, Aether Foundation wishes it had what Team Plasma had, and Team Yell barely did anything at all.
Unova is one of the most memorable regions in the game, with scenery so diverse it puts even SWSH to shame, and actual SEASONS! Black and White also had some of the best music in the series! I mean, just try to listen to the Team Plasma battle theme without ROCKING THE FUCK OUT. You CAN’T!
youtube
This generation also gave me a whole new appreciation for bug types. Before Gen 5, if you had asked me my favorite type it would have been ice (because my favorite Pokemon always and forever is Articuno). And then Gamefreak blessed us with all of these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
No other generation has been this good to bug types. I was never a huge fan of bugs IRL before 2010. At best I thought butterflies and moths were pretty. After this game? I think beetles are CUTE. I love horseshoe crabs. I try not to squash spiders. I rescue crickets that have gotten into places they shouldn’t have. I LOVE butterflies and moths. ...I still hate ants a lot, but I’ve got to draw the line SOMEWHERE. Anyway I’ve been the bug-type gym leader in my local anime convention’s Pokemon League since 2011, and all because Unova brought it’s A-GAME.
But it’s not just bugs, there are a lot of AMAZING Pokemon in Generation 5. Anyone that doesn’t like Trubbish or Vanilluxe can CATCH THESE HANDS. And there were some real standouts in the Gen 5 dex. All three starters are amazing! The regional Pika-clone is a FLYING SQUIRREL. We got the Litwick line and the Deino line both in this gen. We got the ultimate good boy Stoutland! Whimsicott and Lilligant! KROOKODILE. Maractus! Zoroark! Gothitelle and Reuniclus! Jellicent! Ferrothorn! Golurk! Braviary and Mandibuzz! The Muskedeers! The tao trio! Meloetta! ICONIC.
To summarize, Black and White are my favorite Pokemon games in the entire series (yes, even more than the Kanto games) and a strong contender for my favorite game(s) of the decade.

The Generation 8 Starters, the types they are… …and the types they should be. Rillaboom. All 3 Gen 8 starters are pure single type. Which I find to be boring and lazy. So Rillaboom is pure Grass type. It’s classified as the Drummer Pokemon. I think they missed an opportuiy here to unify the new “band” Pokemon. They others being Toxtricity Amped form (Eletric Guitar) & Low Key form (Bass Guitar). Not that Rillaboom should be poison or electric, definitely not. but Team Yell/Spikemuth Gym Trainers are very musical and use Dark types and Poison types (Marnie’s Toxicroak & Piers’ Toxtricity). If Rillaboom was Grass/Dark, this would play into the punk band theme (also fitting the real life British influence on punk music; a genre generally perceived as rebellious & moody...dark). also, Rillaboom only learns Grass, Normal, & Dark types moves by leveling up. other options include Ground type because it can learn many Ground type TMs & TRs; also the vibrations of the drum could shake the ground. Fairy type has a strong connection to nature & Grass type & harmony (Shield Pokedex: It has a gentle disposition and values harmony among its group). Fighting type also fits the way it beats the drum and the way music is often used to “fight the power” Cinderace is pure Fire type. It’s a rabbit that plays soccer (football everywhere outside the USA). It’s soccer ball is a rock. So it should be Fire/Rock type. other options: Fighting type could represent the competitive nature of sports. Soccer is the most played sport in the world, which makes it the “normal” sport. Inteleon is pure Water type. Bulbapedia words this well enough that I don’t care to reword it. “Inteleon follows the motif of British intelligence, James Bond in particular, with the hands being often posed like a gun, spouting water out of the fingertips, while the coloring of the skin in the belly forms a pattern resembling a blue jacket and black trousers on a white shirt.” Inteleon is a spy. Spies prefer to remain unseen & able to get places despite methods used to keep people out. Like ghosts & their ability to be invisible & move through walls. Inteleon should be Water/Ghost type. Yet! Sword Pokedex: It has a membrane on its back that it can use to glide through the air. So its appearance was influenced by flying lizards. And it’s a sniper, & snipers operate best from a high place (see its Gigantamax form). So it could be Water/Flying. Fighting type also fits the spy theme. Spies often find themselves in close combat. Dark type also fits the spy theme. Sneaking around in the shadows. Also, it’s a a lizard, and as a Dragon trainer, I can’t help but choose the only 1 of the 3 starters that is a reptile.

I know very little about Tex. But the 1 thing I do know: Tiers is otp.
Thanmk you.... The info i have to Tex rn is:
Adopted by Nuse Joy and an officer Jenny in a motorbike gang
Trans and gay
He's from spikemuth!
Deathly afraid of the dark
Since bede died, Tex becomes the fairy gym leader (he dropped out of the gym challenge just for this)
He has three pet pokemon: An applin named Macntosh (or Tosshy) and his best friend, Baby the togekiss, and a zigzagoon affectionately named "ziggy" (ziggy has a collar with an everstone, so he doesn't evolve.)
When he was little, his hair was dyed half blue, half pink, thus granting him the nickname "candyfloss"
No one knows his natural hair color. All his life it's been pink and blue, or white and black. Surprisingly, just like Piers, his hair is just naturally white and black. No one believes him.
He sings! He isn't a musician, he just does it as a hobby, but he's damn good at it. Does backing vocals for some of Piers' shows.
He takes care of and feeds wild pokemon in the slumbering weald. Because of this, he is the only one of his entire group that Zacian and Zamazenta trust. He ends up getting both, since Hop quit the gym challenge early on, and just. left.
He's the mediator of the group. They're all wild and violent and Tex tries his best to keep everything peaceful. Things don't always work out for him though, and shit still went down.
Why are Piers and Tex dating? Simple.
Neither of them sleep, which means they're the only two awake at unholy hours of the night. While everyone else in spikemuth is passed out, Tex brings his guitar and amp up to the stage and sings punk rock love songs. Piers, one day, is wandering around spikemuth while Tex is doing this. He hears the song, and immediately thinks Tex is in love with someone that isn't him. Piers has to take his chance, so, over the next couple of days, he catches an applin and gives it to Tex, afraid that this might be his only chance. Lucky for Piers, he was the one Tex was in love with. Tex still doesn't know that Piers wakes up just to hear him sing. (I'm writing a fanfic about when tex does find out tho, i promise)
Last, but not least!! Tex held hands with Piers when they were little. It was cute. Tex blushes whenever it's brought up, thinking that it makes his crush on Piers obvious.

Even If we don’t understand each other, that’s not a reason to reject each other. There are two sides to any argument. Is there one point of view that has all the answers? Give it some thought.

hey, can i ramble about how awesome pkmn black/white is? cool
specifically i wanna talk about the gym leaders, because they’re one of my favorite details in the games. for the first few generations, gym leaders were just a means to an end, people designed to fight you with specific types of pokemon. they existed entirely to be gym leaders and nothing else. yeah they had design quirks that gave them a vague sense of a life and personality besides gym leading, but they were never actually expanded upon. gens 1 and 4 were good examples of gym leaders with backstory. however, they just never. Did anything with them beyond gym leading, save for a couple short cutscene bits or literally having to track them down to fight them
now gen 5 REALLY amped up gym leaders and the elite four as well, and i love it. each of them is extremely involved in their jobs and hobbies outside of their gym leader status, and they’re reflected in their gym locations. i’m gonna bulletpoint this list of people because it’s an easy-to-digest format
1. Cilan, Chili, and Cress: Grass/Fire/Water leaders from Striaton City They’re restaurant owners and chefs! Their gym is literally within their restaurant, and their waiters challenge you along the way, so it’s dinner and a show! (also all of their names are based on herbs/spices)
2. Lenora: Normal leader from Nacrene City She’s an archaeologist and the curator of the city’s museum along with her husband Hawes. Yeah, this woman’s married! Don’t think that’s been an explicit thing before! She’s also super well-read, with a huge library in the back of the museum, and her gym is hidden underneath the shelves! That’s wild.
3. Burgh: Bug leader from Castelia City He’s an artist and possibly a fashion designer as well! His first gym was an art gallery with honey walls, but his updated gym from BW2 was filled with bug-spun silk and his final floor was flooded with rainbow paint. I don’t know if he’s actually into fashion as well, but I remember he was in a Nuzlocke comic I read, and I could see that fitting for him as well with all the silk.
4. Elesa: Electric leader from Nimbasa City She’s a flippin’ supermodel! Originally her gym was at the end of the rollercoaster ride in Nimbasa’s amusement park, but in BW2 it was changed to a runway with other models challenging you as you advance.
5. Clay: Ground leader from Driftveil City He’s the operator of a mining business! It’s interesting that mining is the main export of a port city, but hey, there’s two caves nearby and his gym is literally a massive crystal-filled mine. He’s super responsible with all that to take care of!
6. Skyla: Flying leader from Mistralton City She’s a cargo plane pilot! Her gym is beside an airport runway and within a mail carrier building. She even flies the player around to certain areas, so she’s still capable of piloting planes as well as battling trainers!
7. Brycen: Ice leader from Icirrus City It’s unclear what he does in BW (he’s like vaguely a ninja/monk?), but in BW2, turns out he’s an actor! You can’t battle him in BW2 but you can find him in PokeStar Studios in his own movies! Just looked it up - he had originally been an actor and then got himself hurt in a stunt gone wrong, so he retired and went to train himself to be more mindful and knowledgeable. Then he went back to acting later on. That’s some good backstory right there.
8. Drayden/Iris: Dragon leaders from Opelucid City I wasn’t actually sure what they did either, but Drayden is the mayor of Opelucid City and Iris is just a very excited Dragon-type trainer from the Village of Dragons. Drayden had to stay in Opelucid as its mayor, while Iris trained hard and became Champion once Alder retired. Both of them had very different goals in their strength!
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE
9. Cheren: Normal leader from Aspertia City After the events of BW, Cheren becomes a teacher at the Pokemon School in Aspertia, and continues battling as a way to teach the kiddies! It’s a really great position for him to have taken since it aligns with both of his passions: learning about and battling with Pokemon.
10. Roxie: Poison leader from Virbank City She’s the bass guitarist and singer of her very own rock band! Her gym is within a dark and graffitied music club, and her band plays their music on the stage!
11. Marlon: Water leader from Humilau City Honestly not sure what he does, he just seems like a surfer dude who really likes swimming and being in the water n stuff. Maybe he helps out with the Marine Tube? I dunno, that seems plausible.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S STILL THE ELITE FOUR
12. Shauntal: Ghost-type user She’s a novelist! She even has a pen and notebook in her hands as she battles you, and she shares little snippets from her stories every time you challenge her. That’s so cute!
13. Grimsley: Dark-type user He’s a gambler, and really good at it, too - very fitting for a Dark-type trainer. However, he’s got more backstory than I remembered (from Bulbapedia): “He is the son of a distinguished family that fell into ruin. As a result, he developed a gambling addiction.” He eventually went to Alola and got good at Mantine Surfing but that’s not as important. He’s still good at games.
14. Caitlyn: Psychic-type user She seems narcoleptic... Like, her room is literally a giant canopy bed and she’s basically in her pajamas when she fights you. She’s like if Musharna were in human form: constantly sleepy but fueled by their psychic power. Oh! She used to be an assistant in the Battle Frontier Castle in Sinnoh! Forgot about that important bit! And she apparently is actually psychic but is kinda like Mob from MP100 where it gets out of control if she gets too emotional. Neat!
15. Marshal: Fighting-type user He was an apprentice to Alder, and is a very disciplined fighter. His Elite Four room is a big boxing ring and he wears a mouth guard and wears an outfit reminiscent of a gi, so he seems like he could be a boxer or an MMA fighter.
hhhhhhh okay i’m done now
wait, not yet. the coolest thing about all of these guys is that pretty much all of them are involved in the story outside of gym stuff, they all know each other, and at the end of BW they come together to help apprehend Ghetsis
OH AND NOT TO MENTION in BW2 all of the gyms get their own custom remixes! those all further amplify the gym leaders’ aesthetics and sidenote i so wish that’d come back it was srsly super cool
what i’m trying to say is gen 5 was fantastic and did a lot for gym leaders that hasn’t been replicated since. even for alola, that’s kind of debatable; their backstories and trial placements were greatly expanded upon in the same way, but the level of overall involvement in the story was still greatly reduced
tl;dr: BW/2 were great games and i love them ok bye

The Five-Headed Cerberus
Cane Corso's name: Bruno. Rottweiler's name: Blaze. Doberman's name: Axel. Pitbull's name: Butch and finally the Shih Tzu's name is: Chewie | Genders: Male | Species/Race: Five-Headed Cerberus | Age: Over the 1000s, for sure- | Height: 666ft tall is his original height (he can sizeshift, he's a magical fuckin- hellbeast what more do you want lmao) | Eye colors: Everyone's eyes are a dark brown/black except for Blaze's which is red, Axel's which is a deep blue, and Butch's which is a soft light brown. | Fur Colors: The head's each have their own distinct colors (except Bruno's bc his head from the neck down is black as well) meanwhile leading down from the neck the entire body is just pure black. Blaze has black and tan markings that lead down his neck and same for Axel except he has two tan spots over his eyes, Butch is a light brown with white markings (you p much gets that it goes a bit down the neck before you see the pure black body), and finally Chewie's colors are black and white. | Appearance: Bruno has three claw marks over a part of his chest, Blaze has a bunch of scuffs and scars over him and one of his ears looks like it had a part of it bitten off, Axel has a huge scar over his right eye however it doesn't seem to affect his vision at all, Butch and Chewie are the only ones without scars of any kind, they of course all have huge razor bladed teeth and claws that seem like they could cut through steel, their body is as mentioned above purely black, you'd think they'd only have one tail connected to the body but surprisingly enough they seem to all have their own tails (ya know ninetails from pokemon? It's like that only there's really only five tails in the mix this time) | Personalities: Bruno is territorial and he shows mostly aggression to strangers, to the other dogs he tolerates them however, he really doesn't like Chewie at all, Blaze is pretty chill and mostly doesn't give a flying fuck, he can get amped up sometimes but it just depends on the situation, he's super chill with the others but something about Chewie gives him bad vibes... Axel is super cold and uncaring to most people, he'd rather just be left alone which is kinda difficult when your attached to one body... He just wants peace, dealing with the others can be exhausting, and Chewie worries him... Butch is an absolute sweetheart, he l o v e s meeting new people, he gets along with EVERYONE! Strangers and friends alike! He doesn't understand why the others don't seem to like Chewie too much, he's very oblivious as to why but he likes Chewie at least! And finally... Chewie himself, he is manipulative, cruel, and just purely evil, he hates everyone, including the other dogs, he wants to keep control over this body and he will NOT let ANYONE get in his way, he is the puppet master here, he is in control here! | Side Facts: The boys are kiiindaa like brothers in a way technically speaking, but of course their not related by blood. They also each have their own favorite food, Bruno likes lamb, Blaze just loves all kinds of meat, pork, beef, etc, he don't care so long as its food, Axel is a VERY picky eater, he'll only eat the finest of foods, Butch doesn't want to be picky, but he really does love steak, but he'll still eat mostly anything! Chewie just wants to eat y o u... ...Or your soul but uh hey, some chicken ain't so bad from time to time ya know... Just- Just saying- Yes, even though Chewie is a shih tzu and in a normal setting most of those dogs could easily tear him apart, he is in control here, they have no choice but to do what he says and he'll make damn sure of that, he just wants to reign over this world and cause chaos and suffering to everyone he can, he just wish he could have his o w n type of vessel, he h a t e s being stuck to these idiots, he e s p e c i a l l y hates Butch for how happy go lucky and how kind and nice he is, d i s g u s t i n g...

Weekend Top Ten #400
Special Commemorative Top 100 Videogames
400! Blimey! That’s a lot. Four hundred lists. Crikey. This feels like it deserves some kind of, I dunno, special edition. Sorry, Special Edition. But what to do? And how can I somehow tentatively tie it into the number four or even four hundred?
Reader, I can’t. I’ve just sacked it off basically.
But that’s not to say I haven’t tried very hard to make a really, really special list. So special in fact that I’m doing something I’ve only done once or sort-of twice before: a Top 100. Yes, that’s right; despite this being a Top Ten, today I’m squaring the circle and going the Full Ton.
So having done films before, this weekend I’m looking at one of the few other things I feel I can talk about with a degree of authority: videogames. I’ve been a gamer pretty much as long as I can remember. Whilst I was probably reading comics first – especially Transformers – I wasn’t really collecting them, or reading them widely, until I was in my twenties. Games, on the other hand, I got into pretty hard as a young boy and they’ve maintained my interest ever since.
On compiling a list like this, however, I run against the thing I always run against, which is my knowledgebase isn’t really that wide. I had an Amiga growing up, and then graduated to a PC when I was a teen. Before that I played on my cousins’ computers, which were Spectrums and Commodores. Apart from brief trips to friends’ houses, I barely touched games consoles; indeed, I indulged in a lot of pre-teen “console toy” sectarianism, thinking the likes of Sega and Nintendo were enemies to be defeated (whilst, at the same time, being slightly covetous of the hardware). The first console we ever had in our house was my brother’s Nintendo 64; the first one I ever owned was an original Xbox. To this date, I have only owned (or had in the house, at least) the following: Xbox; GameCube; Xbox 360; DS Lite; Wii; Xbox One. I’ve never had any Sony console, being swayed by Halo and Fable when I finally decided to take the plunge into console-land around 2001.
So all this – combined with a sort-of ingrained frustration and the commonplace mechanics of a lot of “classic” console titles, especially stuff like Zelda and Metal Gear – means there will no doubt be big famous names not on this list. It’s not an apology. I’m not an expert or a journalist; I’m just some bloke wasting time on the internet. Added to this is the fact that, even when I was a kid with oodles of free time, there were only so many games my parents could afford – or, beyond that, only so many that I had time for. I remember longingly looking at screenshots in The One Amiga, PC Gamer, or Edge, wishing I could either find the money or time for the likes of Lure of the Temptress, Starcraft, Baldur’s Gate, LA Noire, Morrowind, and more. Most of these I’ve played, but not really very deeply (ditto the likes of Thief, System Shock, and most of the 3D Grand Theft Autos). And that’s before we even get onto the PlayStation games like Uncharted, Shadow of the Colossus, The Last of Us, and Spider-Man!
Anyway, what I’m saying is, this is a very personal list, and it feels incomplete even from my point of view. There’s stuff that I feel is missing, even from my own personal gaming biography. But it is what it is, and its fractured, fragmented nature is probably a good overview of my psyche, and as such it feels appropriate for a large anniversary like my 400th list.
A couple of other, technical points. In compiling a list this large, I’ve argued back-and-forth with myself over placements, but generally I’ve looked at a game, and the games around it, and asked whether it’s better or worse than its neighbours; as such, that’s where the game is stuck. Sometimes this means I’ll look at the list and think, oh, such-and-such looks too high or too low, but it feels right when nestled against its contemporaries. Also, sequels and franchises: I’ve tried to treat each game individually (both Half-Lifes are there, for instance) but with something like, say, Mass Effect, it felt a bit redundant to include the slightly-inferior parts 1 and 3 when they’re all quite similar but Mass Effect 2 is the best. So quite often one title ends up representing a franchise, unless I feel other instalments are terrific enough to stand on their own, or represent something quite different. But that’s not really a hard-and-fast rule anyway. Oh, and formats: generally speaking, they’re on the formats I discovered or most enjoyed the game on, which may throw up some non-standard entries (like SWOS, which even I think of as an Amiga game, but which I really got into years later on PC). Finally, my memory; there are some older games on here that maybe if I played a bit more recently would go up or down. But they feel important to me and my life as a gamer, so that’s where they’re staying. All that being said, I’m very comfortable with the Top Ten, which is appropriate.
TL;DR: it’s my list, it’s very subjective, it’s based partly on memory or nostalgia, it’s emotional, it’s things that I loved and that meant something to me and that still mean something to me, and that’s all there is to it.
So here we go: Top Ten numero 400. Except it’s a Top 100. Make of that what you will.
