So the world turned and turned again. The rain fell on the just and unjust alike. Men and women were cut down like wheat. To be born again strong.

This year actually funny thing happened...
Back in spring-summer I've made a series of polls to determine which Polish school reading from which literature period was the worst. The culmination was, of course, a poll about the worst Polish school reading ever.
The book that "won" was Chłopi (The Peasants) by Władysław Raymont. Now, the book itself tells a story about the old guy Boryna who marries a younger woman and soon said woman has an affair with his adult son. There are other things happening, like conflict between villagers and local landowner, and Boryna being worried that his own son will send him to beg for money (as many older villagers were by their uncaring family members), but the main plot is triggered by Boryna remarrying. There are four parts of the book, coresponding with each season.
Chłopi actually won Nobel Prize back in a day for presenting authentic view of the Polish countryside. The thing is this book is really hard to read nowadays because of its stylized langauge. I myself tried to read it couple of times for school and failed miserably. So I wasn't surprised that it was elected as the worst Polish school reading EVER.
Now, fastforward to October and lo and behold, we've got this:
In the year of our Lord 2023 people are talking about Chłopi positively again, because of this highly stylized movie made by the same guys who did Loving Vincent. While Loving Vincent was an animation done to resemble van Gogh's paintings, Chłopi were done to look like paintings of Józef Chełmoński (who also specilized with depicting Polish countryside).
Anyway, the adaptation of the worst Polish school reading is hailed as one of the best movies this year. So yeah, it's a weird moment to be a Pole.
