one of my favorite iwtv concepts is a louis/lestat/armand polycule. it wouldn't fix things. it would probably make them a thousand times worse. however, i think they should give it a try anyway because it would be SO funny.
lestat is fine with the fact that armand and louis are fucking but if he's not part of it? the house is getting burned down. armand forgets to do the dishes? they want to hunt at different times? louis is a coffin hog? the other two are cuddling closer with each other than with him? he's pulling out the THIS IS NOT A LIFE immediately. giant tantrum every night like "I CANT DO THIS ANYMORE YOU TWO DONT LOVE ME ANYMORE YOURE GONNA RUN OFF TOGETHER AND LEAVE ME BEHIND I KNOW IT" and he'd go sleep on the vampire equivalent of the couch idk and then come back to the fuckass big coffin later like heyyyy :((( cant sleep. sorry about the yelling. can i be middle spoon now?
armand is going to not say no to anything ever. is he down for that? doesn't matter. he will do it. he'll be going on and on about how damn healthy they are now that they've resolved their love triangle to a healthy flourishing throuple. if he never mentions any problems whatsoever he can create a romanticized version of them in his head where they all love each other equally and no one is ever jealous. doesn't matter what he wants, he's going to get a good grade in polycule which is both normal to want and possible to achieve.
louis is the one who suggested it in the first place and was like pls pls pls pls pls can you guys get along for me pls pls pls but now he spends all his time withdrawing and pondering if he's made a mistake, leaving armand and lestat alone together because he's off eating cats and shit and not actually participating in the relationship, then getting mad at them for having an affair with each other to spite and manipulate him (they are also together louis. louis this is a crucial part of a throuple. louis.)

we joke about louis being helen of troy, but guys, he got lestat and armand in a singular look down bad crying at the gym.
these ancient vampires who were feral about each other took one look at his bright ass eyes and his cocky little half smile and just lost their fucking minds.
their asses 404 errored the second he batted his eyes in their direction. there is no recovery.

i love how if you take season 2 scenes of louis armand and lestat out of context it looks like they’re on dates as a throuple.
like here is them talking about the art they love and why they like it
Tumblr media
and here is louis taking a beautiful picture of two people he’s enamored with
Tumblr media
and here is them after their date resting together

My headcannon is that Louis continued to occasionally hallucinate Lestat for the whole 77 years of Loumand and he didn't want Armand or Daniel to know that

I bring a sort of "everyone should just get in one giant fuck pile" energy that the interview with the vampire fandom doesn't appreciate.

I would be so sick of Lestat if I were Louis because imagine you hooked up with an old fling before he went off to war and then an entire century later your ex-husband situationship (who hates ‘sharing’ you even though he was the one originally fucking other people) writes a song in which he mockingly asks if you’ll give him “some face” as “a souvenir”. like shut the fuck up man we’re not even back together but I’ll leave you again if you keep it up

I want to see Santiago as a modern local couturier. Always arrogant, always flawlessly dressed, almost always in black — because he knows that black suits him well. Santiago still has this irresistible charm, and people can listen for hours, when he talks about his new collection. Actually, he's not so good at creating new clothes. Actually, mostly this is not even his collection. It's Madeleine's. Santiago is just good at presenting it and making people pay.
(Unexpectedly, now I have a new headcanon. Thanks to @faerywhimsy and one of my favourite iwtv stories — i must here be confined by you — where I saw this trio, and it's the only fic I've seen with them)
It all started, when Parisian coven was destroyed. Santiago run away from Paris and found himself in complete loneliness. He has no maker and no fledgling. Now he has no theatre and no maître. He can't go back to Britain, because London coven will hunt him. Armand and Louis will kill him as soon as he appears in their sight. And he's definitely not going to deal with Lestat.
So Santiago made probably his craziest decision and found Claudia and Madeleine.
They were secretly banished and flew away from Paris, mad at Louis, Armand and Lestat for abandoning them (as they think). Of course, when Santiago appears, it's scandal. Claudia promises that she would rip his eyes out, if she sees him again.
Santiago waits for years, but he doesn't go far. There is not the best time for the ladies. Claudia misses Louis and Lestat, and she doesn't know how to deal with this feelings, and Madeleine doesn't know how to help her. And once, when she's desperate, Santiago is hear to listen. Suddenly he is a good listener, discerning and knowing.
And here their relationship begins. Absolutely toxic mess at the start, when Santiago tried to put himself in charge. But they have decades to deal with it. After all he agrees that Claudia is a leader of this strange trio, she dominates, and it's a relief for each of them. Madeleine is her rightful companion. And Santiago... More than a friend, less than a companion, something different than a lover. He is free to go whenever he wants and fuck whoever he wants, but he always comes back.
Santiago calls them Unholy Trinity, and Claudia laughs.
They move to Swiss. Than to Spain. Than to South America. And one day Santiago finds himself in Cali, wearing golden jacket that Madeleine has made for him. All three of them are wearing something matching golden, because it fits Claudia's skin, Madeleine's hair and Santiago's eyes. This night in some club Santiago is teaching Madeleine how to dance bachata, while Claudia is scanning people around, searching for a prey (she became incredibly good at it). When her voice in his head finally points at a man near the bar, Santiago puts Madeleine's hand into Claudia's and goes to the man, smiling.
They will leave the club together tonight. And the ladies will go outside couple of minutes later and follow them to the nearest dark alley.

Wild to me that there are ship wars for Interview With The Vampire when, as a teen, The Vampire Chronicles were some of my first exposure to non-monogany.
Obviously it wasn't perfect. I mean, Lestat/Louis/Claudia is a textbook example of "relationship broken, add more people (oh no now it's even more broken)," and "not every Vee should become a Triad." If you've ever experienced the drama of an incestuous non-mono community where everyone's dated everyone... those books all get a little too real. There's backstabbing, jealousy, domestic abuse, and more murder than I personally prefer in my own polyamory 😅
But there's also "we belong to each other, why would anything we do with other people affect that?" There's "let's find out what it looks like to be with someone for the rest of my life (or theirs)." The idea that relationships have value even if they don't last forever. That romantic relationships aren't inherently more important than platonic ones. The idea that you can hold multiple people in your heart at the same time, that there's room for everyone. That the relationship escalator (dating > marriage > kids > death) isn't the only (or best) way to have significant, committed relationships.
They introduced the concept of comet relationships to my baby brain more than a decade before I would learn the actual term--those people you don't see for months or years but as soon as you see them it's like no time has passed (a personal favorite for my ADHD ass).
Like, when I say those books changed my brain chemistry, I mean that my silly little self-insert Mary Sue OCs went from "marry my fictional crush and be with them forever" to "what if they only saw each other once or twice a year but it was still incredible" and "what if she was married but also had a vampire lover and everyone was chill about it (and also she was a rock star)" and "what if they all lived in one big house together" and/or "what if lived by herself and found that fulfilling" and "what if men and women and ???" That shit was formative. Some of those little daydream OCs live in my brain to this day.
-
Idk man. I don't have much patience for ship wars anyway (and I'm scratching my head about people getting upset about canon relationships being, you know, canon). But with TVA especially, my brain simply cannot comprehend it in a monogamous framework.

Personally, the odds of surviving are less important. Like at least Lestat would encourage trips to the opera and Armand would have Amazon prime.

hello, i apologize if this question has alreaby been asked. i usually dont lurk into fandoms because i fail at navigating them, i just stick with interviews and bts, but for this adaptation i needed to peek a second to ask this. my understanding of vampire chronicles is that from start to finish its a huge messy romantic polycule, i never felt the need or even tried to pick couples because instead i loved to see how these romantic dynamics differ while being equally important and therefore show us the layers of these characters. even the supposed wedding still doesnt make me feel that they all wont still be a polycule in the full sense till the end. but here comes the confusion about the adaptation. from the interviews and the show itself i dont understand if i have to forget the polyamory that we have in the books or not. rolin (and cast too) i understood wants to be loyal to the material and anne but also big changes have been made and will be made. if they want to get rid of the polyamorous nature of these vampires would be a real pity, a lot of richness of this story would be lost i think. this is what im sensing.
Hmmm.
So... it's not as if the vampires are all living in a poly-happy-relationship-knot in the books?
I know that it may come across as that, maybe, especially through fanfiction, I guess, but... in the books a lot of them live at Lestat's court (only) when the chronicles leave them.
And of those a lot of them love others of them. A lot of them hate others, too.
Living together does not necessarily equate romantic polycule. There are established pairings. Lestat & Louis, Armand & Daniel. Sevraine & Gabrielle. Seth & Fareed. And so on.
There surely are... lets say "excursions", and I wouldn't exactly say that with the show canon of sex added to the mix that there wouldn't be wild orgies... but... I wouldn't call it a "romantic polycule" per se. Or polyamory in the sense you seem to mean it.
The emotions are a complicated beast, and though there are interesting speeches wrt Armand and Lestat (for example) in the last book these are an expression of pain because of Louis (at that particular event).
I mean, these vampires have eternity, and the capacity to love more than one person. But it does not mean that (for example) Louis and Lestat live with Daniel and Armand then. That is not the case. Or Marius and Armand and Daniel. Though he was with Daniel for a while that is not the case either. You know?
It is complicated. And it does transcend typical human relationship standards.
But they're not "a huge messy romantic polycule" from start to finish, it is more an ever-shifting mess of relationships. An up and down, would be more appropriate to describe it, maybe.
As such I believe Rolin has built the show on two f the most solid ones there. Loustand and DM are endgame relationships. Which does not mean that they won't love others, too, but "love" and "in love" are different things. Lestat loves his mother, and will love her... but he doesn't live in a relationship with her later on, she is with Sevraine. Louis certainly feels some kind of love for Armand, but he doesn't continue to live with him, he leaves and chooses Lestat. Daniel chooses Armand again. Lestat loves his architect enough to bring him over, but Alain is not added to the relationship he has with Louis. There are vampires who support them, share blood with them, but they are not in a romantic relationship. And so on.
The court (in the later books, it is very different in the first ones?!) is the implementation of finally accepting themselves and what they are... and to live as such, with each other. But that does not mean that they're all romantically involved.
We'll see what the show does with it, but personally I did not expect them to go "messy romantic polycule"... what I do expect them to do is not shy away from the messy interconnections that exist because of history... and they don't.
I mean... Louis and Armand having shared a boyfriend is true (well, if you believe Armand^^) - but it's apart by a hundred years.

I can only ship Armand and Daniel of Louis is in there. Because Armand is a sub. And Daniel-
Is also a fucking sub.
They need Louis in there because he is the only dom they have. Like rarely Armand will switch up and dom but that's like once in a blue moon shit.

The problem with loving Armand and being polyamorous is that if he loved me back he would 100% murder both of my girlfriends.
