could you write the neighborhood with a sweetheart! neighbor?

they find trinkets whenever they’re walking outside to relax in whatever spot they find comfy/involved in the regular shenanigans and gift it to their neighbors once they’re distracted doing something else (they remind me of a crow now that i think about it 😭)

whether that’d be a butterfly charm, a pie hair -tie or a pop soda metal cap, they’ll try to make it look like its brand new again if its rusted and the paint is worn off.

share slices of fruit and lend an ear when they find them feeling down or in a pickle

the neighbor can’t tell jokes for the life of them so they pay for their supplies with bets (long time card game rivals with howdy)

people can’t tell if they’re in a romantic or platonic relationship with any of the cast.

for them, its somewhat in between but they love and care for their neighbors regardless

𖤐 — Everyone in the neighborhood knew what type of person you were (in a positive way of course!). You looked out for them, frequently gave them gifts, lend an ear for them and hanged out with them as much as you could.

𖤐 — It wasn't surprising that you came back with something new to give them as a gift, handing it to one of your neighbors while saying its something that reminded you of them.

𖤐 — You were right there whenever one of your neighbors was feeling down, listening to what they have to say, lending them advice (if you're good at it!) And giving as much comfort as you could to turn their mood better.

𖤐 — One thing you don't necessarily understand, would be jokes. Whenever Barnaby cracks a joke or two, muttering on how you don't get it while receiving a pat on the back with a chuckle from Barnaby (who tries to explain the joke in the way you'd understand), was something that would happen from time to time.

𖤐 — Not that anybody was really bothered from it of course! You'll understand it some day, for the time being, you'll be hearing Barnabys simple knock knock jokes!

𖤐 — Often it would happen that you'd pay for your supplies with a simple card game, setting bets with Howdy while either winning or losing the bet. It is, of course some small friendly rivalry between the both of you, ending it with a laugh and waving you goodbye after the card games for your supplies.

𖤐 — Something that's entirely different with each of your neighbors, is when you hang out with them. It was a difference experience with each of them which never got boring or too repetitive.

𖤐 — May it be some fun games with Julie (maybe even sports! Of course, if you want to take the risk with an accident), talking about bugs with Frank, listening to Barnabys jokes and attempting to crack one on your own (even though you end up telling your joke completely wrong), riddles or even another round of card games with Howdy, helping Eddie deliver mails around the neighborhood (if he allows it), baking with Poppy, acting out a random play Sally had in mind or even painting with Wally (if you can paint, of course!).

𖤐 — Another thing that has occasionally happened, was that one of the neighbors (or anybody outside of the neighborhood) falsely assuming you're dating someone from the neighborhood, and pop the question the moment they could. Which you nicely declined, shaking your head and saying you guys are only friends.

𖤐 — Everyone in the neighborhood was your friend. You loved them dearly and appreciated them a lot (hence the constant gifts and trinkets you give them). You cared for them deeply, considered them a new found family even.

𖤐 — it's something you never want to change, and hopefully never will change on it's own.

Wally

Giving: words of affirmation

Wally is good with his words when he is sure about something. This comes into effect when it comes to talking about his feelings for you! He is quite poetic when he wants to be. Words flow off his tongue as smoothly as butter, singing sweet songs of praise and lines of love to you. He could woo you with ease. He likes it when you get a little shy, looking to the side. He likes it even more when he gets to see the flustered look on your face when he directs your attention back to him. 

“My, don’t you look stunning tonight,” Wally studied your appearance with nothing less than a look of pure awe. You smiled, cheeks turning pink at the attention.

“I could say the same to you, Mr. Darling,” you joked lightly, looking to the side to hide your embarrassment. Only moments later, his forefinger was under your chin, gently tilting your head to make your gaze meet with his once more.

“Hmm… that colour really brings out your eyes,” he murmured sweetly, his face mere inches from your own. Your cheeks burned as you gaped slightly at the close proximity, frozen in surprise before you ducked your head down to hide in the crook of his neck.

“You’re such a tease and you know it,” you grumbled, well aware he was embarrassing you on purpose.

“Ha ha ha, I can’t resist. You know I mean every word I say to you, my love.”

Receiving: quality time, physical affection

Wally loves spending time with you, no matter what it may be that you are doing. If the two of you are having a picnic, if you keep him company while he is painting, if you go for a walk with him, he loves it. Especially if you talk! He loves to listen, and to make conversation in return, too. Overall, anything and everything. Even though he doesn’t sleep himself, he quite enjoys sleep overs! It brings him comfort and content to know that you’re simply there, spending time with him. He just really finds peace in having your presence around. Something he’s a bit more shy about is physical touch. Although he isn’t super used to it, he loves to be held. He likes your hugs (despite usually having a hard time returning it), your arms around his waist, your head against his chest or stomach, your lips pecking his cheek, your hands gently cradled in his, your thumbs brushing against his face…  he simply loves to feel your touch.

Howdy

Giving: physical affection

Howdy has four arms. You already know that he is the best hugger in the town! He loves to wrap you up in his embrace. An absolute cuddle bug, no doubt about it! No matter what, if you two are near each other, at least one of his hands are probably on you. Resting on your hip, holding your hand, pressing against the small of your back, sat on top of your head… always! He is certainly partial to having you in his arms, though. You’re bound to feel safe and secure within them.

Receiving: physical affection/acts of service

As said before, physical affection! He just loves it! Anything! Hugs! Hand holding! Kisses! CUDDLES! He loves it all, as long as he gets to feel your touch! Along with this, Howdy loves it when you do things for him, completely unprompted. Helping out with stock, sweeping up a mess on the floor, letting someone know where the item they’re looking for is when he’s busy with something else? Even though he feels bad about it when you do (he makes sure to reward you!), it means so much to him that you're so willing to do him a favour. How thoughtful of you!

“Oh, shucks. You didn’t have to do that for me, bug!” Howdy said. His arm hooked around your waist, carefully bringing you closer. “You treat me so well, don’t you?” he hummed with a smile.

“You know that it’s nothing, no big deal at all,” you chuckled, leaning into his chest.

“No matter how big or small the favour, it doesn't mean any less to me. Thank you, bug,”

“You’re very welcome, big guy,” you giggled.

“Now,” one of Howdy’s sets of arms wrapped fully around your waist, his lower hands finding the bends of your knees. He picked you up, holding you against him as he grinned down at you.

“I could go for some cuddle time, snuggle bug! How about that?”

Barnaby

Giving: physical affection

Another snuggler! Barnaby is #2 when it comes to the best hugs in the neighbourhood. His big, fluffy, warm arms are around you every chance he gets! Sometimes, he likes to be a bit of a tease and use your head as an armrest. The moment you’d like him to stop, don’t worry! You don’t need to tell him twice. Barnaby loves scooping you right up into his warm embrace! You are 100% his teddy bear when it’s time for an afternoon nap. Good luck getting out after he falls asleep!

“Ah, would’ja look what we’ve got here?” Barnaby’s voice came from behind you. Big blue arms snaked around your waist, lifting you right off of the ground.

“B!” you tried to push his arms away, to no avail. “I was talking to Sal and Jules,” you whined, said neighbours of yours laughing as you squirmed in the inescapable embrace. Barnaby yawned dramatically, one arm leaving your body to cover his mouth. You were basically being held like a football, now!

“Thanks for findin’ my teddy, you two! Means the world. I’m sure we’ll see ya around, yeah?” he waved at Sally and Julie, who giggled as you accepted your fate. Barnaby chuckled a little as you went limp, headed to his house. “I could use a nice nap out on the hammock, y’know? How’s that sound, bear?”

“You’re a pain in my rear, B.”

“Awe. I love ya too, toots!”

Receiving: words of affirmation

Barnaby is a funny guy who is always trying to make those around him feel happy, but sometimes, he can get pretty self conscious. Was he being too loud? Was he coming off as too lighthearted? Was he being funny enough? Was he being annoying? It brings with great relief when you put these worries of his at ease. When you laugh at his jokes and tell him how funny they were, when you assure him that you know he cares, when you take him seriously while others only see him as a joke? It simply means so very much to the big ol’ dog. When you cheer him up after he’s been feeling down, you can bet you’ll be getting loving snuggles for days!

Eddie

Giving: words of affirmation

This southern man is full of pure southern charm, whether it be intentional or not! He is a sweet talker, naturally so, always so incredibly kind to you and those around. You will hear constant compliments from the mailman, such high praise, and so much reassurance! He gives you a confidence boost for sure.

“Why, to what do I owe the pleasure of stumblin’ among this pretty little peach on such a fine day?” Eddie leaned against the fence in your front yard.

“Good morning to you too, Eddie,” you chuckled, cheeks pinkening. 

“Good morning, sugar,” he smiled in return. “How goes it today, hun? You’re lookin’ gorgeous this mornin’,”

“Eddie, I literally just rolled out of bed,” you snickered, straightening up his crooked hat for him. He must have taken a stumble. Nonetheless, he leaned over and pecked your forehead.

“I said what I said,” he grinned.

Receiving: acts of service, words of adfirmtatiojn 

Eddie is forgetful, that is no secret at all. He always tends to accidentally leave something behind. His hat, a letter or package meant to be delivered, pens, so many things! When you remind him or bring them to him, he is so thankful! Another thing well known about Eddie is that he is quite the klutz! Although most times he manages to catch himself, he does occasionally trip and get hurt. When you gladly help him out with his injuries, he falls in love with you just a little more. Especially if you kiss it better! Sometimes, he gets pretty bashful about it. When you tell him you don't mind one bit and that you’re willing to go above and beyond for anything he needs, his heart flutters with joy!

Frank

Giving: quality time

Frank can be very quiet and reserved, keeping to himself. He enjoys his quiet time, but even more so, he enjoys his quiet time spent with you! He appreciates someone that he can spend time with little to no words shared at all, or a whole lot of them if you’re willing to listen to his rambles, so if you feel the same, he greatly appreciates your company. He often seeks you out for your presence in these cases. When you are doing something together, chances are, he will tell you some of his favourite facts about the butterflies around, the subject of the book you are reading, etcetera! He thinks that you are neat, so will tell you and teach you about this neat stuff to express his feelings toward you.

“At first, this butterfly may appear to be a monarch. Although, if you take a closer look, you can notice this line on the hind wing, which means that it is not actually a monarch, but a viceroy butterfly instead,”

You and Frank sat side by side, a book open between you. You two were in the garden, backs against a tree, watching for any cool insects that came to check out the plants.

“Is there a reason why they look so much alike?”

“Well, monarchs are poisonous to eat because of a toxin in milkweed they consume when young. Their appearance allows predators to know they’re not for eating. Viceroy’s copy this appearance to keep safe from predators as well,”

“Is there anything you don’t know about butterflies?” You chuckled, peeking at him.

“There’s always more to learn,” He smiled. You smiled back, shaking your head in amusement. 

“I like it when you teach me. you describe things better than any book ever could,” you told him. His cheeks reddened, and he shifted his position slightly. 

“I like teaching you. It makes me happy that you’re so willing to listen. I know I’m quite ‘nerdy’, Julie tends to make a point of reminding me, so it’s nice to have someone who shares the same appreciation towards things like this as myself,” Frank admitted, plucking at some grass. “Basically, what I’m trying to say… thank you. I appreciate it, a lot,”

“You’re more than welcome, Frank,”

Receiving: gift giving, quality time

A new book? For him? About his favourite subject at the moment? You bet he is jumping with joy, cheeks flushed and a smile on his face! He’s so happy! A new butterfly net, after his last one broke? (darn it, Julie!) Wow! You just always know how to make his day. Along with this, Frank enjoys spending time alone to unravel sometimes. With you, though, he enjoys it a lot as well. When you come over, a book in hand, sitting down next to him and quietly reading with him? He loves moments like those.

Julie

Giving: physical affection, acts of service

Julie loves, loves, loves, hugs! Any moment they get, their arms are wrapped around you! If you two are walking together, you can bet that her hand is in yours or your arms are interlocked. She likes to run errands both for you or with you, as well! Oh, you want a snack from Howdy’s? She’ll come along with you to keep you company! You’re not feeling well? Don’t worry! They’ll go fetch you some soup from Poppy! You are their favourite person, they’re more than willing to do whatever you need.

Receiving: physical affection

Julie likes receiving hugs and such as much as giving them! Sometimes, they’re a little nervous that they’re being a little too clingy, too touchy. When you return her acts of affection though, she is reassured that you aren’t feeling this way! Either way, if you simply told her, she would understand and tone it down a notch. Anything to make sure you’re comfortable! Another thing that they like is if you play with their hair! Run your hands through it, put it up for them, braid it, whatever you feel like! It’s one of their most favourite feelings in the world.

“Can you play with my hair, please?” Julie leaned towards you, flashing you the classic puppy eyes. “I need some help with brushing it!” She claimed, holding a brush out towards you. With a light hearted sigh of amusement, you took the brush from her, sitting down with a smile.

“C’mere,” you patted the space between your legs. She gladly plopped right down, getting comfy as you started on her hair, beginning at the ends.

“Thank you!” She said, chipper and happy that you complied. You slowly dragged the brush through her hair, fingers following behind, carefully untangling any little knots.

“You’re very welcome,” you smiled, noticing how much her body relaxed into yours. She basically melted under your touch, sinking back against you. “You really do like this, don’t you?” you snickered softly.

“I really do,” she admitted shamelessly, grinning. “I can’t help it! It feels so nice and calming. Plus it gives me an excuse to spend more time with you!" she added. "Reminds me of when I was a kid as well,” she released a soft sigh, seeming to think back to when her siblings used to help with her hair.

“Yeah, I get that,” you smiled, knowing she missed them sometimes. “I don’t mind at all. I enjoy it,”

Poppy

Giving: gift giving/acts of service

Poppy is a gift giver and a favour doing. She loves it! Baking your favourite treats for you, quilting a cute new blanket for your couch, crocheting a comfy sweater for you, everything of that sort! Definitely her favourite thing to do. She loves those activities on their own, even more so with the intent of gifting them to her fellow neighbours, and even more so with the intent of gifting them to you!

“Oh, good mornin’, hun!” Poppy exclaimed, pleased to see you at her barn. “I didn’t expect you to stop by today. I’m glad, though. I was actually just finishing up some baked goods for you,” she ushered you in with a smile.

“Poppy! You didn’t need to,” you returned the smile with ease. Everything she did tended to put one on your face, afterall. 

“You know I love to, though. It keeps me busy, gives me something to do! A break from all the chaos the others always seem to get up to. Goodness, some days I feel they’ll give me a heart attack!” She held her feathered arm over her chest for emphasis.

“I certainly understand that,” you agreed with a chuckle. “Thank you, Poppy.”

Receiving: acts of service

Now, despite enjoying doing things for you all the time and seeing it as no big deal, the moment you do something for her, she's so flustered! You didn’t need to do that for her! It’s strange having the roles switched, but she does find the feeling very pleasant. She knows that the things she does are done out of love, so having things done for her in a similar way just warms her heart.

Sally

Giving: words of affirmation

Sally loves to give you compliments! How nice you look, how good your performance was, how much it means to her for you to help her with her plays, so many things! Sweet words are always spilling from her mouth! She likes to see how flustered she can make you, sometimes. You look so cute!

Receiving: quality time/gifts

Sally loves it when you spend time with her, especially when she is rehearsing for one of her plays! Say the lines with her, she appreciates it an extra bit! She always puts on her best performance when you are around. You bring her confidence and energy. When you come and watch her neighbourhood plays, she’s so happy seeing you in the crowd! If you volunteer to play a role in it? OH MY GOSH!!! Gives an extra good excuse to spend more time with you, too!

“Sally!” You called out after a show, catching the (literal) stars' attention. Her face (literally ;) ) lit up at the sight of you, rushing over to talk. 

“Hi! Did you like the show? How did I look? I made a mistake in that first scene, but I think I covered it up alright!”

“You did amazing,” you smiled, “so amazing, that I brought you these!” You removed your hands from behind your back, presenting a small bouquet of flowers to her. Her eyes widened in surprise, cheeks going red.

“Goodness, aren’t those pretty! You are just the sweetest to me,” she gave you a bright grin, examining the flowers. 

“You deserve it,” you replied.

It was an accidental confession

She just looked so pretty you had to compliment her!

And by compliment I of course mean you blurting out how much you love her

Girly was immediately flustered

Sally Starlet

After a moment she happily accepted and returned your love

"Oh- ... Thank you neighbor!"

She already confessed multiple times albeit during plays so you thought she was just acting

When you confess she is immediately screaming happily

"Finally!"

She immediately kisses all over your face

Howdy Pillar

You did it while he was working

You came up behind him and just kinda blurted it out

Absolutely thought he heard you wrong so you had to repeat yourself multiple times which only made you more embarrassed each time

Eventually you get there tho eventually

𝔄𝔲𝔱𝔥𝔬𝔯’𝔰 𝔏𝔢𝔱𝔱𝔢𝔯: Thank you so much for this request and I apologize for taking so long so much came up, but regardless thanks for the request let’s jump right in!! Keep in mind it could either be read as platonic or romantic regardless spoiler alert they don’t see you grow up.

- Wally was surprised to see you after all these years. Same thing with the rest of the crew, your eyes are definitely different instead of that whimsy you’ve once held. You’re rather cautious, it still wows them how different you are now.

- Wally did believe for the time being that he’s the only one who truly remembers you and for a while that’s true. But once you’re in their world things started to change.

- Eddie and Frank are the first few to notice that you looked oddly familiar. When he asked specific questions about your childhood it started to click for him.

- Sally and Julie are shocked that you remembered the lines of a play or the rules of a game. They start to ask themselves the same questions why do you look so familiar yet different.

- Howdy, Poppy and Barnaby are a bit unnerved when you remember stuff like the residents orders or certain joke punchlines. Even certain recipe ingredients. How come you know those things.

- They all meet together to discuss the possibility of how they felt so familiar with you, but this is seemingly their first time meeting you. They all come to the conclusion that they’ve met you before. [Excluding Wally since he fully remembers you.]

- For a while they’re all happy to have you back, but you’re getting homesick. You constantly ask questions on how to get back to your world. But they’re not even sure if it’s possible.

- But only Wally knows a way in and out of their world and keeps it out of your grasp. He even starts manipulating the others.

- “We have them back, why let them go now? Don’t you all miss having our best friend?” He asked the others as they’re all conflicted. Sure they miss you and love you, but was keeping you here really right?

- This could go one of two ways. The first being they do buy into Wally’s twisted line of thinking, why go back to such a troubled and dangerous world? You can stay here and everyday is nothing, but joy and laughter.

- They’ll start gaslighting you into buying into this logic as well, which really freaks you out and you start lashing out. They see this as you throwing a tantrum.

- Another way this can go down, they aren’t sure and start asking you why you want to go home. And you explain that yeah your world isn’t perfect, but it’s still your home.

- Soon they all start talking about how to get you back home, out of Wally’s watchful eyes. You all start to unraveling and untying the mysteries of their world and Wally’s existence.

- Either way it’s ultimately up to you to really choose your own path on how things will play out.

Hey hey it's welcome home!

May or may not be doing this cause its a description of one of my ocs, but uuuh- Wally, Poppy and Frank with a 'reader' who is basically Robbie Rotten from Lazytown, just an obligatory 'villain' who lives to cause trouble and come up with 'schemes' for the rest of the cast to deal with even though... Uh... They would also completely bail out on whatever they had planned if they got sick because they don't wanna spread it to anyone else shfjsjfhd

Wally

In the show, you're basically the villain character who has a knack for causing many of the plights/perils in each episode.

Like you could be out to sabotage Sally's plays, ruin Wally's pompadour, take a wrecking ball to Home, etc.

Your home has an underground lair with a bunch of high-tech inventions that help you carry out these "evil deeds".

Oh, and you absolutely have a villain song, too.

You can even "hijack" Wally's introductions and proclaim to the viewers that you're gonna take over the neighborhood by the end of the day.

In some episodes, you'd kidnap him and keep him hostage--only for the rest of the neighbors to come to the rescue.

It's a game that you seemingly always lose, but you find it fun!

Yet even as a villain, you have standards.

For instance, Wally was expecting you to show up and interrupt his painting session...but he sees you off in the distance going to the pharmacy with a mask on and wonders what you're up to.

It turns out you got the flu, so you wanted to forego whatever scheme you plotted until you felt better.

"You won't try...spreading your sickness to us?" He tilts his head, confused.

"....I'm a villain, Darling." You huff in a tired, stuffy voice (yes, you refer to everyone by their last name). "Not a monster."

Poppy

As the main "villain" of the show, sometimes you'll pick on Poppy for being a "big scaredy chicken" and thwart her cooking attempts.

You might discreetly add something to her food that makes it taste yucky, or remotely crank the oven 100 degrees extra so her pie turns to charcoal.

Of all the cast, she's the most intimidated by you. The others usually come to her defense.

However, one day you visit her barn, and while she freaks out at first...she notices you look rather exhausted and sickly (not to mention keeping your distance), and her motherly side still manages to come out.

"O-Oh, are you okay, dearest? You don't look well.."

"...I caught a cold. Do you..have any tea?" You ask softly.

Of course, she can't say no and turn you away. So she makes you some hot tea, which you sincerely thank her for, and you two chat for some time before heading back home without incident.

You do admit that seeing him shouting random words at your security system made you laugh the sickness out of you, so you felt much better now--and you thank him for that.

Welcome Home x Reader - Colourful Soul

Based on this post.

AU summary: Everyone is born completely colour blind - they can only see in shades of grey. That is until they meet their soulmate, who is in colour. Then the world becomes colourful for them!

These are just quick headcanons that focus on the character's initial reactions because I want to just get this out as soon as possible so I don't need anyone waiting! Also, I'm not including Home in this because I'm not sure how to do it.

I'll make a Wally-centric one later.

You, just like everyone else, was born with a strange condition. Science was yet to have an explanation for it; many people came to the conclusion that it was magic. And in a way it was. For you were born completely colour blind. And it was going to take a soulmate to fix that.

Wally has the most subdued reaction. He's mostly in a state of shock? He's pretty naive and although he's always heard about the soulmate stuff he doesn't quite understand it. Pretty must just treats you like a friend until you educate him on it.

Julie is the exact opposite. She's so excited and happy! I imagine Julie is still a little naive about this stuff but loves the idea of love and wants in on it right away. But like Wally, she still just treats you like a best friend with extra gifts.

Sally gets it. She may work hard play harder, but she's not an idiot. She knows what it means when she suddenly sees colour everywhere. Immediately, she calls this to be a time to celebrate, and drags you everywhere to show you everything there is. She wants to get married as soon as possible. Because that's what soulmates do, right?

Frank is really, really flustered. He honestly never thought this would happen to him and isn't quite sure what to make of it. Him? Meeting his soulmate? No way! The whole time he's very awkward but still tries to contain his composure. Calms down and treats you like royalty as he shows you around his 'humble abode'.

Eddie is all gushy and whatnot. He's also shocked at all the new colour, as are you. Did the world really look like this the whole time? He invited you to his house/business and you guys hang out there awkwardly for the rest of the day. It's weird, but cute.

Howdy goes very quiet and very blue (him blushing) very quickly. He's... Shocked? Confused? Something. Doesn't really know what it is - whether it's the seeing colour or the soulmate standing in front of him or both. It's all really confusing and very emotional! He cries without realising it.

Barnaby goes mad in the best way possible. He's bouncing off the walls with energy and it's crazy. Wraps you up in a tight (suffocating) hug and tells you how happy he is - through puns, of course. He needs to run around for the rest of the day to get the energy out, and then some!

Poppy freaks out because she thinks she's about to faint. It's all very concerning for her because she's worried that you aren't her soulmate and that something's wrong with her. But you calm her down, and after that she's really happy! You guys spend the rest of the day getting to know each other and just having a good time.

before bringing you some breakfast in bed, of course

he gets you a number of gag gifts as well as genuine presents and cards — but what those gags are depends on your boundaries and such (e.g. if sudden movements and loud sounds genuinely scare you then he won’t get you a pop up box or screamer)

hosts a small get together with by your friends and facilitates an all out prank war that’s based around your humour — doing everything he can throughout the day to keep you laughing and smiling

eventually everyone leaves and you sit down for your evening meal and that’s when he hands you his actual birthday card for you

of course there are puns scattered here and there, but it’s written so genuinely and it’s so sweet that you end up tearing up and tackling him with a hug

you end the day with your sides hurting from laugher and your heart full to bursting and you couldn’t have hoped for a better birthday

eddie dear

eddie unfortunately doesn’t get to wake you up on your birthday as his rounds have him out and about until about 9 — and your neighbour, julie, had already woken you up at 8 to give you the presents she’d prepared and give you (some very gentle) birthday bumps

he gets home around the same time that frank stops by to give you your gift so you all sit down and have a chat over a fresh cup of tea/coffee — with the others eventually joining you to share in good drink and sweet foods

it’s a good laugh and he can see the joy and appreciation in your eyes as your loved ones celebrate you and you open your remaining cards and gifts in the middle of this makeshift gathering

they all stay for a little while after that, leaving at around 1 as they had other responsibilities, leaving you and eddie alone for the first time that day

he hands you his main gift: a handmade scrapbook featuring photos and letters you’d sent to each other over the course of your relationship so far with little captions in his neatest handwriting noting down when each date happened

it’s simple but sweet and you share a kiss before you go down to eat

and, once you were finished, good gifts and good cards

you were due to celebrate with the rest of your loved ones the next day but they’d dropped off their presents in advance

and you appreciated each and every one

then came your partner’s present and frank was anxiously watching as you tore open the wrapping paper

✦ The surname 'Darling' was not unfamiliar to you. In fact, you recognized it being one of the many famous names in the art industry, a family of well-known artists. So when you found out your next door neighbor was no other than Wally Darling, one of the top selling painters, you couldn't put your shock into words.

✦ He truly lived up to his surname, being quite a lovely companion and always assisting you any of your problems. He'd always ask you to be his muse in return for his help or even join him on little trips to Howdy's Place for more art supplies.

✦ If you asked him to teach you how to draw or if you're an artist yourself and need some constructive criticism, he definitely does well in that department. If you're interested in dabbing into some painting too, he's right there beside you and guiding your hands on what to do, regardless of what medium.

✦ Howdy was the owner of the bodega and you boss! When you had stepped into his store, you are set leaving with too many bags hanging from your arms and a nearly empty wallet. It doesn't bother much residents since his products are extremely high quality and worth the price.

✦ When I say he has everything, he has everything. There's nothing you won't find in his store, it's practically a mini mall at this point. Sure, he does lack in some areas but you cannot lie that this man has a lot jam-packed in his store.

✦ He's also one of the tallest neighbors you have met throughout your stay, and had lifted your body up more than twice and made you look like nothing more but a bag of grapes in his hands. Doesn't matter what your height is, he has those strong, finely toned muscles from always several boxes stacked atop each other.

✦ Howdy is the most intelligent when it comes to emotions since after all, he has a lot of siblings and most of them are younger than him and/or looks up to him a lot. You need a break? No problem! He'll lead you right to the staff lounge and offer you some tea. A hug? Someone to hold your hand? He is on the way with blankets and pillows, and there is no way stopping him from making a pillow fort. He will also listen to your vents and comfort you or join you in gossiping and shit talking about the more ... rude neighbors.

✦ Babygirl's always been girlypop like that. And oh, his hugs are the best! Absolutely comfortable and not gonna lie, you often feel as if he had four arms wrapped around you all firmly and sweetly. Sometimes, you can see another pair of arms protruding from his back. but you aren't sure if it is true or a work of imagination.

POPPY PARTRIDGE!

✦ Being Howdy's employee, you're bound to come across everyone's mother figure: Poppy! Though, she was a bit anxious and jittery around you at first, she quickly came used to your presence and would beeline straight for your register if you were covering up for one of the cashiers.

✦ She's incredibly sweet, easily flustered and often gifts you her baked goods or knitted accessories and clothing. She often invites you to her baking sessions, even teaching you the basics of baking if you haven't done it before.

✦ Whenever Poppy isn't feeling well, she'd usually go to the obvious person: Wally. After all, they have a close-knit familial relationship and Wally always knows how to calm Poppy's nerves. But when he isn't around, she comes to you. She calms down easily when she has you in her arms, cuddling on the sofa while the TV plays her favourite show.

✦ It's a bit funny when someone as tall as Poppy picks you up like a little ragdoll cat, shoves her face into your hair and sobs. It's even funnier if you're known to be quite grumpy, but you couldn't push Poppy away without Wally coming after you.

✦ If you ever yourself hurt, it's best to not let Poppy know or else she'll start worrying. It's fine if it's just a little scratch, nothing like a quick, thorough wash can fix. But please for the love of god, keep yourself in check and wound-free for both of your sake. Neither of you would not risk getting white hair in your 20's.

✦ All neighbors are somewhere around 25 and above, with Howdy being the youngest, and both Barnaby and Wally as the oldest.

✦ Wally graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Fine arts and Poppy managed to snag a BS degree in Nursing, but Howdy's an undergrad and wasn't able to finish college because of having to focus providing for his family more than his studies.

✦ Poppy used to work in a clinic before completely ditching it the moment she sees the slight of blood. She was willing to endure the grim crimson liquid during her college years, but she'd drink a whole spoon of vanilla extract than see blood again.

✦ Wally had a blue period once, but most of the paintings from that time is locked away in his basement. Only a few of them hung in some art galleries and Barnaby's house.

✦ Howdy spends his lunch break at the community center. He also avoids packing himself an apple because Wally once grabbed it with his teeth and ran off.

★ Julie met you while visiting her family, she got lost and stumbled upon you. You don't like to live near people so the forest is where you call home. Being under the same umbrella as you (rainbow monster) you warmed up to her quickly.

★ Not realizing you where hiding from people, she immediately introduced you her family. Bringing the joyful family into the dense forest you call home. It went surprisingly well, and now you're a friend to the little family.

★ Imagine all the new games she can play with someone who has wings! During a game of hide and seek you could hide on top of a the post office and win every time. In capture the flag you could hide the flag where nobody can reach! The possibilities are endless...

★ She doesn't understand why you hide yourself. After all, she's a Rainbow Monster and never has she needed to hide her identity. Everyone in home is so friendly, she can't imagine a place where people are mean.

★ You meet the rest of the town through her. It's a classic case of a extrovert adopting a introvert. She goes around Home knocking on people's doors and introducing you to them.

★ If that's too much for you, she does the same thing but over the phone so you don't need to leave your house. Introducing you to Frank first because he is her best friend and she's definitely told him about you beforehand.

Poppy

★ This mother hen is deeply concerned, if you live in the deep forest where do you get your food? What if you get lost in the forest?? Do you even have running water there??? These are the things that come to mind when she learns about you.

★ Do you like pastries? If you do she puts together a basket full of various cookies, puff pastries and cream puffs then gives it to Eddie for delivery. It took Eddie an hour to find your house because he kept getting lost.

★ Like you Poppy has wings. Except hers are used for baking, not flying. Technically she could fly if she really wanted to but she's too scared to try. By proxy, she's scared that you will hurt yourself while flying.

★ She covers her eyes when you take off from a high place because she can't bring herself to watch you jump into the air. What if you fall?!?

★ To quell your fear of being in public places she knits you a cape-like poncho that covers most of your body. Poppy can assure you that nobody in home would ever hurt you, but if this makes you more comfortable then so be it.

Sally

★ Being the towns theater kid, she's well-versed in story's about dragons. Congratulations, you got this star to be enamored with you. Never in her life has she seen a dragon! She asks you so. Many. Questions.

★ Sally likes to cast you in her plays as the hero character, despite the situational irony. Only casting you as the "bad guy" when you audition for the role. She refuses to promote any mean/harmful stereotypes in her plays!

★ When you tell her that the way dragons are portraid in old plays is inaccurate and problematic, she feels really really bad. She gives you some written copies of her performances (specifically the ones with dragons in them) for some constructive criticism.

★ Stories focusing on dragons are now among her favorite genres. Darker stories about dragons being hunted and driven out of towns are a bit too dark for her. More lighthearted stories about dragons collecting gold, jewels and knowledge are what she finds riveting.

★ The change in perspective inspires her to write manuscripts for stories about dragons. With your help, of course. What if she re-wrote old stories but instead of being "evil" the dragon is the hero?

𖤐 I won't beat around the bush, but the whole neighborhood was amazed by it! A neighbor who plays the most important role in a show! And it's their neighbor!

𖤐 Sally Starlet, once she got to hear about it, she definitely had stars as eyes once she heard of it! She was completely over the stars about it! (Possibly even the moon!)

𖤐 expect that she will learn your lines, a true theater kid by heart! You could possibly even call her your biggest fan! (Now thinking about it, if you were someone who acts in musicals, there will be a big BIG hint that she wants to re-act those musicals with you!)

𖤐 Julie Joyful really was joyful! Ecstatic! You could name them all! She was possibly giddy once you talked about it, getting stars in her eyes like Sally! It must be fun being the star of the show!

𖤐 Frank Frankly, the well known bookworm in the neighborhood may not have been as amazed or possibly be even joyful like Julie was, but it certainly caught their attention. Maybe you could even turn their frown slightly upside down! (But you clearly didn't hear that from me!)

𖤐 Barnaby b. Beagle, well known prankster in the neighborhood finds himself impressed! Even gives you a slight praise with a pat on the back, but it's expected that'll he'll crack at least a joke (maybe even two if he feels like it!)

𖤐 Howdy Pillar found himself rather jolly, or well rather a bit more jolly! (which he always is! It's quite hard to express his character), you could even find him nodding along while you're talking, he's all ears after all.

𖤐 Eddie Dear (who's often busy delivering letters to the neighborhood) does make time to listen to what you have to say, he's happy! For you especially! But you could expect that he'll forget it after awhile, it isn't a complete bummer, he'll try to remember it (and even if he doesn't, he'll have the same reaction even if you tell him again!)

𖤐 Poppy Partridge really got her feathers raised! (In a positive light of course) even if she seemed rather frantic, it didn't seem like she minded on you being a important role in a show– specifically for kids, but at least it wasn't bad news she had to hear! (Even if she does think of the worst outcome, it felt better to prove her thought wrong instead!)

𖤐 last but not least, Wally Darling had his usual smile on his face, feeling quite happy for you! But he still views you as well, you! MC of a children's show or not, you're still his neighbor after all! Nothing will change his perspective. But you knew that already, didn't you?

𖤐 the neighbors still love you the same way of course! Being a important role in a children's show shows no difference to anyone, that wouldn't be neighborly of them after all! It's you who they see! Their neighbor who just happenes to be well known to children.

ok so all neighbors are involved in Sally's act, it goes wrong and the stage crumbles, everyone ends up falling over. while everyone are saying stuff as "whoosie" and "ouchie", we just lose our filter for a bit and say "son of a bitch"

🏠 Losing our filter 🏠

Twas a Tuesday afternoon and all of you were getting ready for a play

The entire neighborhood had helped make the stage

That might sound like a good thing, but in reality that just meant that nobody was as focused as they should have been

So y'know there's probably some screws lose somewhere

Anyway back to the play-

Everyone had finished getting ready and were taking their spots on the stage

Until Barnaby saw a squirrel....

Yeah ummm

All hell broke loose

He accidentally knocked the already poorly built stage, and with how big he is it completely came crashing down

...on everyone

It fucking hurt

You were on the ground, stuck under some stuff and trying to recover from the shock

You could hear everyone whining around you

As you tried pushing yourself up one of the wooden planks above you suddenly fell and bonked you on the head

Completely forgetting the innocent puppets scattered around you, you screamed out a series of words so vile I can not repeat them

As you finally got yourself off the ground you looked around you

...They were silently staring at you...

Suddenly realization hit you like a ton of bricks

Or wooden planks

"oh shi...z" you said quietly to yourself

Everyone just continued to stare, wide eyed and mouth agape

After a few awkward seconds Sally started laughing about it

Julie and Barnaby then preceded to join her

Eddie also chuckled to himself a bit

Poppy and Howdy looked like disappointed mothers

Frank... Was just kinda there being frank

And wally was trying to make sure you everyone was okay

I'm so excited to be sharing with you all my love for this wonderful ARG! This introduction here is being multi-posted, as this is originally on my AO3 book!

So! Before we dive right in here, I'm going to state a few things very quickly so you have an idea of what's going on.

So, along with the drabbles I’m providing, I’m ripping them directly from my book so keep that in mind! Things are going to be shifted around to better adjust to Tumblr’s layout, so keep that in mind!

Without further ado, I'll be listing a few rules very quickly to get you all nicely accustomed! [Sorry that they’re a bit lengthy, I would like to note. I’d just rather go in depth so they’re understood better, so feel free to skim!]

☻Little Things To Note☻ ✎_ These drabbles are just for fun and to pass time, so the quality may not be what you expect from my usual works! When it comes to oneshots, I tend to be more loose so that it doesn't feel more straining, and so my motivation doesn't tank before I can update whatever main gig I may have on the back burner. And unlike my main work, this will be a bit more humor filled for the sake of my own sanity. So please do keep this in mind! ✎_ If you're wondering one important thing, then I'd like to say yes! You can request! Here, or on my AO3 book! You can flood my inbox as much as you'd like! Do be aware though, I may not do every single request that's given to me.
