As a young runt growing up during the early 1960s I remember seeing these coastal conifers from afar—probably from Chetzemoka Park or Point Hudson. Instead of weathered conifers, I thought they looked like palm trees on a distant shore. I didn’t see them up close until years later when I was finally old enough to ride a bike down Morgan Hill.

Much of western Washington's recent geology has been dominated by giant ice sheets stretching from the Canadian Rockies to central Washington. This ice gouged out the Salish Sea, Puget Sound, and carved up the rest of the landscape. Port Townsend sits on a peninsula made up of the junk giant glaciers left behind. This is typically sandstone, gravel, and mud but weird stuff starts happening when the giant glacier meets the ocean and starts to melt. There's lots of cool geology in Port Townsend, once you know where to look!

Some random information about Port Townsend WA for the Dead Boy Detective fandom and other curious sorts.
Please feel free to add onto or correct any of this; I'm going off of memory as a resident Washingtonian and from my couple of visits there personally.
The city was originally supposed to be the main shipping port for the state of Washington but, it was cast aside for Seattle instead.
Geographically, it makes more sense for Port Townsend to be the main shipping port into WA by a nautical standpoint given its location at the Northside of Puget Sound which is much closer to the Pacific Ocean.
However, from a logistics standpoint it makes more sense to have the main seaport be as far inland as possible to cut down on ground shipping travel, time, and cost.
Architecture:
Port Townsend is a city frozen in time with regards to its Victorian era homes and other local architecture.
As historic landmarks, and places of significant cultural heritage, all buildings within the historic overlay district are protected from being torn down.
If you have a love of history, love of Victorian architecture, or simply want to admire the town for its involvement with Dead Boy Detectives, Port Townsend is a delightful little gem hidden among the lush landscapes of Washington State.

Absolutely CRAZY Dead Boy Detectives is set in Port Townsend like it's literally 40 minutes down the road but also where were they trying to take that ferry?!? The ferry only goes to the islands?? You can't leave Washington that way?????
