Arranged marriage but it's because Jade's kingdom has invaded yours and, coincidentally, it's the only way to maintain peace. Refusal just means your country faces ruin, and the people of the Sea can be ruthless if they feel slighted...
OOOOOO taken hostage in your own kingdom and brought before the terrible, ruthless king. >_< your kingdom doesn't have the means to defend itself from the Sea. Not without losing plenty of manpower and resources. It's clear that, even if you put up a solid fight, you will still lose. It's your duty as heir to the throne to defend the home you cherish so dearly. And even when you're forced to your knees and bound in chains, spears at your throat, you remain diplomatic.
Jade has a proposition for you. He's not cruel, but the sharpness in his smile suggests he can be brutally cutthroat if he so pleases, considering you're held under his thumb like an insignificant shrimp. In order to spare your kingdom the worst of the invasion, he's willing to settle for a peaceful alliance. If you agree to marry him and unite your kingdoms, you shall know peace and a very strong, loyal ally. But should you refuse... well, he hopes your kingdom will enjoy the ruinous execution of its beloved royal. :)
You agree. What else can you do? You grit your teeth and swallow your pride and agree to his terms because, even though you love your kingdom, you refuse to die for it in a war you're wholly unprepared to handle the brunt of. Obviously Jade suspected you would agree, but he was fully ready to slaughter those you hold dear just to force your hand. A pity he can't do that (yet).
Ohhh, how you despise him. You refuse to even think of him as your husband. He's your enemy; he will always be your enemy. You must never let your guard down around him. Even as you're getting married, you're on high alert. A dagger is sheathed at your thigh, veiled beneath the frills and pearls. You'll kill him if he tries anything, especially suspicious since he seems so keen to consummate this cursed marriage.

People Jane could have asked for help when she wanted to leave Thornfield, instead of just running out into the wilderness with a piece of bread and some money that she spent entirely on bus fare:
Mrs. Fairfax: Didn't know Rochester was married, would understand that Jane wants to leave. Could possibly provide a loan to help Jane travel to where she needs to go, or at least direct her to other people who could help.
Mr. Eyre/Mr. Mason/the lawyer: Sure, her uncle's dying, and his employees just left her there, but they might not be that far from Thornfield. Could be nearby, or could be reachable by letter if inquiries were made.
Mr. Rochester: He owes Jane money. She could demand it and ask for a reference. If he refuses, she could always pull the "you want to lock two wives in the attic?" card. Risky option, because Rochester is volatile, he's already shown signs of violence, and Jane might cave if she faces him again. I don't blame her for not taking this option, but it was there.
Bessie and Robert: They like her, and they have a house separate from the main house. If she can find a way to travel there, they'd probably house her.
The priest: You know, the one who was going to marry them in the church that's literally walking distance from Thornfield's front door. He knows Jane's story, knows that she's innocent, and knows exactly why she needs help. In the perfect position to provide aid.
The Lowood school: She's been gone for less than a year. I'm sure they'd take her back.

See, I think Charles’ annoyance and frustration with the Cat King really was just pure protectiveness and not any kind of jealousy - it’s understandable, because Edwin is not telling him what happened even though something clearly did, which is not typical for them. Edwin doesn’t usually hide things like this! Of course he’s worried!
Charles’ reaction to Monty, on the other hand, is difficult to explain in a way that isn’t jealousy. You could say he’s being protective again, but Charles shows no sign of distrust in Monty, and had no idea of who Monty was or that he might betray them - he was actually very chill with him, except in a select few specific scenes. You could say he just doesn’t like him because he got brushed off during their first meeting, but not only does that not seem like Charles at all, it also doesn’t make sense, since, again, in most instances, Charles is genuinely friendly and is happy when Monty compliments him and seems to have come around to liking him (it completely flies over his head that this is a petty jab at Edwin on Monty’s part but oh well hahaha). You could say it changes up their status quo a bit and that bothers Charles. I do think this bothers him a bit, but I think, unlike Edwin, Charles’ fear and frustration here is directed more at situations (the Cat King whisking him away for several hours, as an example) than others. He’s sociable and likes being able to talk to new people. There’s absolutely no way he’d begrudge Edwin doing the same - and he doesn’t… with Niko. Edwin and Niko hit it off and become very close and that never bothers Charles at all. He’s incredibly endeared to her, just like the rest, and for the most part, he’s chill with Monty too, and smiles pretty knowingly when Edwin confesses to him having awakened some feelings. The only exceptions, where he shows definite annoyance, are when Monty first shows up and gets really in Edwin’s personal space to show him the astrology chart he made, and when Edwin is so sucked into the book Monty gave him that he doesn’t hear that Charles is talking to him, to which he annoyedly says that they seem to have been “spending a lot of time together”.
You could say he’s unused to having anyone get in Edwin’s personal space like that, but, again, Niko. She’s very tactile with him and he doesn’t seem to mind all that much; they spend time together watching things. If it was just someone getting close with Edwin in general, not only would that be weirdly possessive for the character, but it would also mean he would show discomfort with anyone getting close, I think. Does Charles see Monty as more of a potential threat than Niko, seeing as he knows her and her personality and doesn’t know Monty? Well, maybe, but again, Charles shows no sign of distrusting Monty at all.
Monty is a boy. Okay. So something about seeing Edwin so close to a boy that is not him, getting lost in thought over something this boy gave him, really rubs Charles the wrong way. Charles appears to catch on just as quickly as anyone else that there is something (or it looks like something) between Edwin and Monty. He is not surprised when Edwin comes out to him in episode 6, and in fact, seems to have just been waiting for him to verbalize it. He smiles and is not bothered at all by Edwin showing (what he thinks is) a romantic interest in Monty - he just doesn’t like it when Monty clearly shows a romantic interest in Edwin. Um. Well. Well.
Charles is jealous. I really don’t know what else to say.
Look, when I first watched this show, I actually didn’t want them to end up together romantically - I love the idea of one having fallen in love with another who does not reciprocate and the two of them still loving each other just as much. That Edwin’s confession made them closer instead of making things awkward is such a beautiful outcome to this build up and I absolutely love it. However. On my two rewatches, I caught a lot more little details, and I think it would be very strange if the show did not follow up on this. That, plus the deliberate quality of these “jealousy” moments where the camera focuses on him, Charles’ Orpheus coding throughout the show, the fact that Edwin’s arc was far more about realizing his feelings for Charles specifically than just coming to terms with his sexuality, and that even the actors admit that Charles’ response to the confession kind of left things open, it really seems to me like the path leads to a romantic endgame for them, or at the very least, that this possibility will be explored in more depth.
**This is just my reading of it. Please do not use this post as a gotcha for anyone who loves them as a platonic duo or people who really love Crystal and Charles together (because let’s face it, they’re super cute too). I’m just doing my rambles. As per usual.
#listen this got really long and I’m sorry but I wanted to be sure I covered all my bases because#I flat out hate the old argument of ‘it (romance) is the only possible explanation!’ with regards to strong bonds#because it so often invalidates strong platonic expressions of love#but… *gestures above*#they’re going to need to address this at some point I think#I really hope though that if the relationship becomes more romantic#that this does not happen in season 2 but in season 3 or something#make it a good build and emphasize the importance of their existing platonic bond#I want their bond to continue to change and grow closer via their friendship first before evolving into romantic tension :)#(also I have faith in these writers but I’ll always be worried about what happens to Crystal with all this. pls don’t cast her aside…)#the smart thing would be to have Crystal have more of the main plot action and Charles more of the feelings arc#for season 2. that’s what I’m hoping#not just any romance or jealousy for Charles but also feelings around his family and dad and his wants and fears and all that#storyrambles#this got away from me again haha#should I use my analysis tag? does this count??? …I’m using it. ->#call me ace detective the way I am ace. and also a detective.#dead boy detectives#I also love the idea of a canon gay couple in an overall queer narrative because that’s beautiful#please I want it to happen#charles rowland#edwin payne#payneland#dbda meta#dbda spoilers

You all know how every powerful villain has some sort of loyal follower(s)?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm thinking of the Beasts having either 1 loyal follower or each of them having their own.
Kinda like the idea of them having just 1 follower ngl. It'll make the dynamics interesting.
Tumblr media
We don't exactly know how the Beasts feel about each other (minus Shadow Milk, who calls them his comrades/friends), so I'll wait a little longer to design a character for this.

So you know how in And The Haze Will Take Us, POVs can switch between multiple characters in the same episode? And sometimes in some stories, you can choose how another character reacts then? Would it be interesting or not for HS3 to do this? Like, mainly it’s Vicky’s story, but if the three MCs are together in Heaven - dealing with whatever, Idk, I haven’t read the second HS - playing jumps between them?

Putting my various Hamster and Gretel predictions out there now that we have all the descriptions
Stuff that I absolutely think is going to happen:
Ms. Night is the one who gives Hiromi the truth gas and encourages her to release it at the art show.
Hiromi finds out Hamster and Gretel's identities at the end of Miss Direct, and ends up telling Ms. Night.
Ms. Night is the villain mentioned in the description for Trading Faces.
Kevin and Hiromi get together at the end of Trading Faces after he helps rescue her.
Mordros learned from Hamster Ex Machina and starts his invasion by kidnapping people(Kevin, Fred, Bailey, possibly Lauren, Lyle, and Footkicker because of their powers but extremely unlikely) that could be a potential problem. He also manages to get Hamster.
In addition to all that, he at some point manages to take Gretel's powers.
I suspect that Hiromi learns of Kevin and Fred's involvement with Hamster and Gretel at the end of The Art of Deception but I'm not as confident about that
I've also both seen and had the thought myself that The Imposter might be Ms. Night, and I definitely could see that happening (though I''m hoping it doesn't)
I really want any sort of attention to be given to what effect the reveal will have on Hiromi and Fred's friendship, but I have no idea what the actual likelihood they do that is.
Stuff that I don't think is going to happen but I would like to:
A Tchotchke appearance so the implication he was going to appear again doesn't go to waste
Lauren helping in the fight against Mordros
Literally any kind of proper conclusion to Lauren and Lyle's arc

omg you probably get his comment like 15 times a day but the way you work with colours is fucking sublime. you could try to convince me you don’t see the secret shrimp colour spectrum but I will never fucking believe you. you use such bold colour palettes that I would never imagine to put together but they WORK SO GODDAMN WELL EVERY TIME. also your mind. rcg NEEDS to get you in the writers room I think you might know the characters better than they do
thank youuuu 😭😭😭 coloring is honestly my least favorite part usually lmaooooo so i try to have fun with it.
bro i wish i had the secret shrimp colors; i think about them everyday----

A little preview of my wip Ghostflower fic. Though I dont think it counts as ghostflower and leans more to just Gwiles. Specifically Earth!42- Miles and Gwen. I think there should be a separate dynamic for them respectively. Their personalities are kinda reversed. Miles is the one that's more broody and angsty, while Gwen is an adorable sunshine that can roast your ass like the sun. And she's still got that edge to her. Of course 😌
But AGSPSKFLGKGJD Y'ALL TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK?
---------
New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There’s nothing you can’t do.
All right, I am only doing this just this one time. My name is Miles Gonzalo Morales. I used to wonder why my dad didn’t put Davis as my last name on the birth certificate. He told me it’s because he just doesn’t want it to get in the way of making my own name for what he did in the past. Said he and my uncle used to get into some shaaaady business here and there. For all his insistence to erase the past and never look back, I find myself doing things backwards. Because all I be doing right now is get caught up in the past. Trying my damnedest to right it. To give meaning to it.
Fisk still has his sights on being Mayor. His campaign pitch was a load of bull. Everyone knows the villains that run around the city wreaking havoc was in cahoots with him to get the people running as far away from this city as possible. His vision of being a livable safe New York in which he put up in honor of his late wife Vanessa Marianna and son Richard Fisk sounded like an empty promise. If anything, he was hellbent on making an unlivable New York. His grief spreading its reach to drive people away. It tends to do that to a man. In that aspect I can empathize for him.
But what stops me from pitying the fool is that he’s going on driving away families who wish for a new start in the big apple. As well as people who established the roots here since opportunity was promised in the land of the free. Hiking up housing prices. Creating noise and riots on the street.
I could move forward If I wanted to.
If I did move forward me and my mami would’ve been living peacefully in Puerto Rico right now with my maternal grandparents.
If I did move forward, I wouldn’t be sticking out for the city that granted my dad countless opportunities no matter how much he messed up.
If I did move forward, I wouldn’t be giving my dad justice for all the things he has fought for this city. His death would have been in vain.
If I did move forward, no one would’ve stood up to the likes of Fisk.
No one would’ve had the guts to go against him.
And the only one that could do that was someone above the law. Someone who runs under the cloak of the night. Someone who could portray the villain if they needed someone to be angry at. Someone who turned Fisk’s attention away from grabbing every silver lining left in this city to cling on to.
If I did move forward. I wouldn’t be the Prowler.
And if I hadn’t taken up the role of the prowler… I wouldn’t have seen what my dad, my mami, my uncle wanted me to look forward to.
Sunshine breaking through a dark sky. A city burned alight with a new hope. A blue eyed angel flashing me a bright smile.
Just as New York can be greedy, as it takes, and takes, and takes. It also gives, and gives, and gives.
It’s okay to look back in the past. But it’s also important to not get hung up with it that you won’t be able to see the new day in front of you. It’s called New York for a reason ain’t it? Just because one bad thing happened doesn’t mean life stops there.
You wanna know how I got here? Let me take you back to the time when life stopped for me.
