Actually I'm gonna make this its own post. I pulled top ten lists off of Ao3!
Note that Ao3 Numbers will broadly reflect twitter and tumblr english-language fandom, but only part of instagram, tiktok and pinterest fandom. Ao3 is also only broadly depicting the English-language fandom, as Spanish, French, and Portuguese fics are generally hosted on their own sites.

looking at the nutrition guide posts again, and you say that the clans' territories are bigger than one might think.... how big do you imagine they might be? the book maps always make them seem smaller than they probably actually are due to art scaling
There is no way to give a perfect number, because productivity of land depends a lot more on what's on it rather than raw size. An old-growth oak forest will have more squirrels in an acre than a sitka spruce plantation will in miles.
But this is an aerial photo of Peng Chau island, which is a landform notable for being almost EXACTLY 1 square kilometer.
Tumblr media
That's 10 million square feet, for those of us burdened by imperial, and 247 acres, for... farmers idk. Or, 100 hecatares for those who are aware that most UK nature reserves measure their land in hecs.
(does this seem big? it's not. this is merely two 18-hole golf courses. or maybe we should destroy all golf courses. who knows :P)
According to the John Muir Trust, which researches red deer density and conversation, 1 square kilometer can sustainably support 5 red deer; more deer than that and they will begin to damage the environment. Britain is so ecologically devastated that the deer density is more like 10 to 1, but this is what apex predators like boars, lynxes, and wolves are SUPPOSED to be for.
(Remember: the ratio of 5:1 is still an average. The TYPE of land is going to matter A LOT MORE than the raw size.)
So if you're asking me, who has ruled that the White Hart/Forest Territory has an entire herd of red deer which hunters come to shoot at, I'd say the area was at least 3 square kilometers. Enough for a sustainable herd of 15 deer.
(But I imagine the Windovers sometimes toss hay out at them, to sustain a pretty sizeable herd. The map names the WindClan territory the "Windover Moor" so I imagine they actually own the majority of the area. I also write the entire White Hart being MUCH larger than the minimum 3 sKM, more like 10 sKM counting all the territories put together. BUT I don't think about it too much-- I just know it's not a tiny little backyard area.)
(Also Sanctuary Lake is even larger.)

I usually grab my AO3 stats for my own personal record-keeping and celebration of achievements on December 31st / January 1st (end of the year) and on August 19th (the day I first started posting), but I was out of town this year on AUG 19 and kept putting it off. (I feel like I've been so, so spacey and busy this year.) So, I'm posting them now! What's a month between me and my blog?
Since my last check-in, I wrote and posted... "Stepping Up" (90,263 words), "First Contact" (7,166 words), and "if words could make wishes" (31,424 words). The "Scum Villain Stories" series is now at 1,216,156 words and 24 fics, which will make "Servant to a Different King" lucky number 25, it seems.
I don't write for the stats and don't track them outside of these little "hey, I should acknowledge the passage of time so it doesn't fall into one big blur" posts, but I think it's neat to take them and hold them up against both specific (SVSSS) and general fandom preferences. (Which fics attract clicks in which fandoms? Why? Why not? It's fun to speculate wildly and possibly wrongly.)
Hm, I really should write more rarepairs so I can broaden and continue my amateur, extremely biased, essentially useless data analysis of these things... (joking) or so I'll say to defend my decision to forcibly drag everyone onto an unusual rarepair ship with me someday (intended humorously, but I am seriously interested in exploring some rare pairings for their own sake). I'll be like a reverse-kraken. Instead of monstrously dragging sailors off the ship and into the depths of the sea, I'll be scooping innocent beach-goers from their swimming and putting them on my boat.

ways i budget and afford lolita clothes °○●♡
disclaimer: this is how i personally budget based off my income & expenses. these numbers may not reflect everyone's abilities. im just posting for fun :)
🤍 I set aside $30 each month
🤍 I don't buy things until I sell something
🤍 I wait for coupons and good deals
🤍 When shopping from Japan, I consolidate my packages and choose slower shipping to save money
🤍 I give myself price limits. I don't spend more than $165 on dresses, $55 on blouses, and $45 on accessories.
🤍 If I see something I like, I'll wait a week and notice if I think about it again or not to avoid impluse purchases. If it sells by then, it wasn't meant to be!
🤍 I keep a list of my purchases and sales to stay on track
Tumblr media
this list is from december 2023-march 2024. (hey! you said you only spend $165 on dresses, but you spent $200 there!) it was $165 without shipping! okay... i wasn't very smart with that one, but i know it's something ill keep forever! so shhhh...
results: I currently have $247 set aside for lolita fashion! technically, this is my budget for any hobby items and cute clothes, but it usually just ends up being for lolita :)

So How Many Engines Does the NWR Actually Have?
Eighty, according to the Reverend Wilbert Awdry - but this includes British Rail and Industrial engines. It also seems excessive for an island the size of Sodor which has, according to TheUnluckyTug, an 87.7 odd mile mainline and another 30 odd miles of branchline, especially when compared with several other railways of similar size. I am going to warn everyone here, this post is long.
The neighbouring Furness Railway built roughly 247 engines during its lifetime, of which a good fifty-five were 'Sharpies' - however that railway had 190 miles of railway and served some of the largest steelworks and dockyards in all of England. In contrast, the Northern Counties Committee Railway in Northern Island had a maximum route mileage of around 282 miles and only 73 engines. This same NCC ran nearly half of all trains in Northern Island at the time, sharing a duopoly with the GNRI. After amalgamating together into the Northern Ireland Railways and shrinking the full network of Northern Irish railway down to 225 miles, they today run 47 locomotives.
The railway network that serves the entirety of Northern Island is bigger than Sodor in length and requires less engines. It also calls at 54 stations, in comparison to Sodor's 27 stations that the NWR serves. So, let's do some maths and logic puzzles to try and figure out how many engines the NWR actually needs to serve the Island of Sodor.
Firstly, let's look at how many the books name: eleven NWR steam locomotives, six diesel engines, one track maintenance vehicle, as well as three industrial engines and an unknown number of electric engines. This means that the Peel Godred line could have any number of engines, however we can make a reasonable estimate at two multiple units for the four stops, and two or three goods engines to look after the aluminium traffic and other goods work. That makes five engines needed for the branchline.
The Ffarquhar branchline similarly does not require that many engines. Its primary industry is the Anopha Quarry, with a number of farms making up the rest of the freight traffic the line would have. In the books, the line is run by Thomas, Percy, Toby, Daisy and Mavis - the private industrial engine who manages the quarry. This means that there is one dedicated railcar, one autotank-fitted tank engine, a tram engine, a dedicated quarry diesel and Percy to run the line. The only addition possibly required would be an engine to run dedicated stone trains from Ffarquhar to the junction or the harbour, a task that seems to already be covered by Toby, Percy and Mavis. That adds another five engines to our list of standard-gauge engines on Sodor.
Another branchline that does not need any extra engines would be the Little Western, which was only refurbished by Sir Charles Hatt to access the ballast from the old MSR mines. With Duck and Oliver running passengers, Duck managing most of the limited freight traffic that isn't ballast and Donald and Douglas covering most ballast trains, there is no need for any extra engines, and adds another four engines to our list.
After that, Edward's branchline is where we may see some additions. The branchline may be quite short, having only three stations on its route, but it also has Brendam Harbour, which is a major port for the island, as well as the China Clay Pits, which are served by Bill and Ben - the other two industrial engines mentioned in the books. They are known to shunt Brendam Harbour on occasion, while Edward and BoCo run the branchline itself, with Donald and Douglas helping. This line would need more engines as freight traffic through Brendam Docks increased, as well as a dedicated shunting engine for the harbour. That adds up to seven engines to our list to run this section of the line - being Bill, Ben, Edward, BoCo and three new helpers.
Potential candidates from the TVS for filling these roles could be: Salty, Neville, Molly or perhaps Whiff - all of whom are either shunting engines or medium-sized engines who would be able to compliment Edward and BoCo well.
After Edward's branchline, we have to talk about the Kirk Ronan and Norramby branches. The Kirk Ronan branchline has three stations, and was once part of the Sodor and Mainland Railway. We know passenger traffic is poor, and the freight traffic was solely dedicated to mineral traffic from the Skarloey Railway heading to the port. It's highly likely that this line is either kept operational for a token service, or has one engine running it. Either way, we can add one engine to the list, of whom I would suggest Arthur.
The Norramby branchline is currently served by the Other Railway, according to Awdry - this would mean multiple units running passenger trains from Barrow and potentially a freight service, though that would have likely been discontinued in the 1960's during the Beeching cuts. Currently, 26 trains operate out of Barrow up the Cumbrian Coast Line per day, while the Furness line sees roughly 24 trains per day, according to the Northern Rail Timetable. Most likely, one of these two lines would have their services extend to Norramby, meaning up to 24 trains per day for the line. However, it is highly unlikely that each train to arrive on this service is a new engine, with it being more likely to be four or five engines. This adds five engines to our list, for a current total of twenty-seven.
To this figure, we can add the Works Diesel, Bloomer, and the austerity engine referenced in 'Wilbert the Forest Engine', making thirty.
This leaves the mainline as needing 50 whole engines to reach Awdry's figure of 80 - and of this potential number, we know Henry, Gordon, James, Bear, Pip and Emma. To understand how many engines are needed, we need to understand what jobs these engines would do - of which, there is passenger trains, the express, freight trains and shunting.
If the mainline has eleven stations, 87.7 miles of track and they wanted to have a train arrive every hour to meet their Northern partners... well, they'd need more engines. It takes one hour for a train between Lancaster and Barrow - a distance of 28.6 miles, so we can safely assume that tripling the distance would triple the time - for a trip time of around three hours. Now, this time would most likely be shortened by the chance for the engines to achieve higher speeds between stations, as the number of stations on both lines is roughly equal - 10 on the Furness line to 11 on the NWR mainline - but even still, it would require the railway running six separate stopping trains per day. Considering that only four of the six engines above could even run commuter trains, I would say that there is need for more engines.
There are currently two express trains that run on the Island of Sodor: The Limited and the WildNorWester, however it is not certain that the Limited is still running, as it only appeared for 'Enterprising Engines'. In any case, Pip and Emma are enough to handle fast trains on Sodor.
Freight is an interesting variable - we know that Sodor produces aluminium near Peel Godred, and that the alumina needs to be transported up there, and the finished product moved to the mainland, as well as general goods trains, farm produce trains, and freight trains bound for the harbours or from the quarry or China Clay pits. Based on these key requirements, it is safe to say Sodor needs a few more engines.
So, for the mainline we have Pip, Emma, Gordon, Henry, James, Bear and at least eight other engines of various sizes. Two of these engines would be built to run passenger trains alongside Henry, James, Gordon and Bear, while the other six would handle goods traffic, in particular bulk traffic or local goods. Fourteen engines, with potential help from Donald, Douglas and BoCo seems more reasonable as a number of engines on the mainline of a primarily agricultural island.
Suggestions for these engines include Murdoch, Derek, Emily and Rebecca - which is a shorter list than it should be due to the lack of large, mainline engines in the Thomas series who could feasibly run in the UK.
Finally, two shunting engines - one for Tidmouth and one for Barrow-in-Furness - can be added to the list, as since Duck gained his branchline, we have not been introduced to the new station pilot at Tidmouth and since the rise of the multiple-unit, Barrow station would require an engine to act as station pilot there too. Options for here include Diesel, Charlie, Dennis, Rosie and Paxton.
All of these numbers added together equals: 46. Twenty-three branchline engines, three industrial engines, two maintenance engines, one austerity engine, one preserved engine, fourteen mainline engines and two station pilots. Considering at the beginning I said that Northern Ireland Railways runs 47 engines currently and has a network of over double the size of Sodor but doesn't run freight, I would say that this is a pretty respectable estimate.
In direct contrast to this estimate, my ERS has 34 engines who cover the entire NWR and the neighbouring Furness Line. My reasoning: Donald and Douglas are magic, and scarily efficient. Having the two of them around means Edward and BoCo need no help on their branchline, and also Sodor would not need a commuter train every hour - it's a rural, agricultural island with three major population centres at Peel Godred, Vicarstown and Tidmouth. And also cause I have enough characters to balance already, Awdry had the right idea keeping the cast relatively small.

CM Fanfiction on AO3
I'm a bit of a stats nerd, and I've been wanting to put this together for ages. The following are some statistics regarding Criminal Minds fanfiction of AO3. Do with this what you will, but if ever someone tries to tell me this fandom isn't misogynistic -- I will just point to this post.
I spent an abhorrent amount of time putting this together, hope it's interesting to other people. Please don't send me hate mail for my opinions.
Base Statistics
Total Fics Tagged Criminal Minds: 34,561
These stats were compiled by me on 20/06/23 via AO3's filtering system.
Note: These were taken at face value, meaning these numbers may not be exact. In order to get exact statistics, I'd have to stringently filter out things like mislabelled fics, spam, fics with multiple categories (to find pure slash, femslash fics), etc.
Tumblr will destroy the resolution of the graphs, just click to see full res :)
Fanfic statistics gathered from AO3, episode totals gathered from IMDB.
Tumblr media
CM Fanfiction by Category
Most Popular Category: F/M (26.2%)
Fics Counted in This Statistic: 34,561
These totals weren't all that surprising, in a fandom that is largely obsessed with two men and no one else, I sort of expected this.
The only reason F/M has the largest amount of fics (vs M/M) is because 37% of all F/M fics are "Spencer/Reader". (More about pairings below)
If 'x reader' fics were excluded from the data, then the distribution would skew to: 34% M/M vs 24% F/M
Sorry, I just saw the 'other' category is the same colour as F/M on the graph. Other accounts for 2.3% of all fic categories
Tumblr media
CM Fanfiction by Rating
Most Popular Rating: Teen and Up (30.3%)
Fics Counted in This Statistic: 34,561
I think it's interesting that the most popular ratings are Teen and General -- even though a huge portion of readers only read Mature/Explicit. There are absolutely incredible works that are rated Teen and General, and it's just a shame people don't read them as much as smut. That's probably the same in most fandoms though.
Top Relationships for Each Rating: General Audience: Spencer/Reader Teen and Up: Morgan/Reid Mature: Hotch/Reid Explicit: Hotch/Reid Not Rated: Spencer/Reader
It's no secret that this fandom worships Hotch and Reid above all other characters, but I think there's something to be said that a M/M ship dominates the Mature and Explicit ratings. Slash fic (M/M) has always been more popular than femslash (F/F) in pretty much any fandom, and the history of fetishization of mlm relationships in fanfiction (the fetishisation usually being written by cishet women, not talking about queer people writing queer fic) is always worth discussing.
Tumblr media
CM Fanfiction - Top 10 Characters
Most Popular Character: Spencer Reid (19.9%)
Fics Counted in This Statistic:*indeterminate due to crossover (multiple characters per each fic)
No surprises here with the top three being the men who make up some of the most popular ships.
Notice how Jack Hotchner, a CHILD who was in 22 eps out of 300+ -- is featured in MORE fics than main characters (who were in multiple season) like: Luke, Matt, Tara.
Tumblr media
CM Fanfiction - Top 10 (BAU) Characters
Most Popular Character: Spencer Reid (20.5%)
Fics Counted in This Statistic: *indeterminate due to crossover (multiple characters per each fic)
This one is filtered by BAU members only. Sorry, 'reader', this is about main characters only.
Notice how Gideon (45 total episodes, 2015 fics) and Elle (27 total episodes, 1371 fics) made the top 10 list even though characters who were on the show for YEARS missed out.
Main Characters not in the Top 10: (* denotes section chiefs. Bold denotes characters who appeared in more episodes than Gideon) *Erin Strauss (24 total episodes, 1361 fics) Alex Blake (48 episodes, 1190 fics) Tara Lewis (97 episodes, 1108 fics) Matt Simmons (49 episodes, 642 fics) Ashley Seaver (13 episodes, 279 fics) Kate Callihan (23 episodes, 247 fics) Jordan Todd (8 episodes, 130 fics) *Mateo Cruz (6 epsiodes, 88 fics) Stephan Walker (15 episodes, 66 fics)
All three men who didn't make the Top 10 are men of colour. Which is worth pointing out because the main reason Derek and Luke both made Top 10 is because they are popularly shipped with Reid. Outside of Morgan/Reid and Reid/Alvez -- I doubt they would have been tagged as much as they are.
Also worth nothing that Tara Lewis who appeared in 97 episodes, which makes her the EIGHTH highest billed character (above Luke, Gideon and Elle) -- doesn't even make the Top 10 most written about characters. She also happens to be the ONLY Woman of Colour on this list. Coincidence? Doubtful. She's also the ONLY canonically QUEER character -- and yet....even in the F/F tag she doesn't make top 5 (more about ships below)
Tumblr media
CM Fanfiction - Top 10 Relationships
Most Popular Pairing: Reid/Reader (24.5%)
Most Popular Character Ship: Hotch/Reid (18%)
Fics Counted in This Statistic: 20,873 out of 34,561 (*includes fics with multiple pairings tagged)
This was WILD to me. I knew that 'Spencer x Reader' fics (I grouped ones tagged 'reader' and ones tagged 'you' together for this graph) were popular but I wasn't prepared for how skewed this data was. I don't have much to say about it anything involving Reid tbrh
Only three out of ten top relationships DO NOT involve Spencer Reid.
For people who don't know: using a slash ( / ) to denote a pairing means the pairing is romantic, using the ampersand (&) to denote a pairing generally indicates a non-romantic relationship.
Notice the ONLY F/F pairing that made Top 10 was JJ/Emily (with only 10%)
Tumblr media
CM Fanfiction - Top 5 M/F Relationships
Most Popular Relationship: Spencer/Reader (52%)
Fics Counted in This Statistic: 9741 (72% of the total F/M fics on AO3)
Look, I don't know what to say about this. It speaks for itself. This show had an incredible ensemble cast who were all integral to the show's success -- yet, the only character anyone cares about in the fandom is the generic white dudes. Misogyny at it's best.
Tumblr media
CM Fanfiction - Top 5 M/M Relationships
Most Popular Relationship: Hotch/Reid (45%)
Fics Counted in This Statistic: 7870 (75% of the total M/M fics on AO3)
Again, no comment about the most popular ships
I was, however, surprised that Hotch/Rossi made Top 5
Tumblr media
CM Fanfiction - Top 5 F/F Relationships
Most Popular Relationship: JJ/Emily (71%)
Fics Counted in This Statistic: 2927 (65% of the total F/F fics on AO3)
For people who don't know: using a slash ( / ) to denote a pairing means the pairing is romantic, using the ampersand (&) to denote a pairing generally indicates a non-romantic relationship.
It's not surprising that JJ/Emily dominate the femslash category. They have always been the main femslash pair in this fandom. However, they only make up 49% of all F/F pairings!
I was surprised to see that 'x reader' fics took 2 out of 5 slots on this one. And I was especially surprised that Emily/Penelope made top 5. (I mean it's only 148 fics, but there they are)
Again, note how Tara Lewis (a canonically sapphic character) isn't a part of ANY of the top 5 pairings, even though she was in 98 episodes. That's a travesty imo. Tara/Emily trails at about the 7th most popular F/F ship with a mere 115 fics
In Conclusion...
Most of this was to be expected. This fandom has always praised the male characters while pushing the women aside, so the amount of works focusing on Reid and Hotch wasn't that surprising.
I think it's interesting how people tend to throw Jemily shippers under the bus (broad statement made via my 18 years in this fandom), because Femslash is by far the smallest portion of the shippers in the entire fandom. People just hate women
Do with this information what you will. This was mostly compiled because I've always been curious, and also I think it serves as an important archival tool for the fandom.
Please don't send me hate mail for my opinions.

CM Fanfiction by Word Count
About 52% of all CM fics (34,561) are under 5,000 words
This was a really fun one to do, and was mostly included because I was curious. I think it'd be worth getting even more specific by trying to work out the average word count for all fics under 5,000 words.
Hey, if you're a marathon author with long works -- look at YOU!! You're a very small percentage in this fandom, and as someone who prefers long-form fic -- I am personally thanking you for your dedication.

CM Fanfiction - Top 10 Addition Tags
Most Popular Tag: Fluff (21.7%)
Fics Counted in This Statistic: *indeterminate due to crossover (multiple tags per each fic)
I honestly expected angst/whump/hurt/comfort to be first on this. I guess if you add up all the variations of those type of fics, they'd be top tag.
Obviously this one isn't ever going to be perfect, because tons of people either don't tag their fics, or they don't use the prescribed tags above. Still, I thought this was worth adding to the post.

Black Clover timeline Headcanon
(but gives numbers for happy brain)
Okay! Gonna put my timeline math into a post! Feel free to alter!
So Under the presumption that the average Wizard King term is 10 years, and a Wizard King can have multiple terms. And there has been 28 in the past 500 years.
Lemiel was the first and he was one for a day
Princia was the 11th (died at 22)
Jester the 16th  (died at 23)
Edward the 20th (died at 66)
Conrad the 27th (stripped of power at 35)
Julius the 28th (stops being Wizard king at 44 presumably, but it’s hard to say)
Black Bulls and Golden Dawn are created when Yami is 22 and William is 20, to which Julius is Wizard King (age 37) at this point. 6 years ago. And we know he became WK 10 years ago from Spade Arc (was he 33 when he became WK?) Damn. Wait… Rill is the youngest ever captain at 19.  And Rill even states he isn’t anymore when Yuno becomes a Grand Master.
So who was Captain prior to Rill?
And that means Julius had to become a Captain at at least 20 years old.
Yami meets Julius as a captain at 15 (14 years ago)
The fight with Conrad had Nozell, Yami, Kaiser, Merelona, Feugolean
Mathamatically Yami should be 19 (Charlotte just joined the magic Knights by this point)
Probably right after Morgen’s death as he isn’t in the fight
Say Julius is 33 here, Julius could have been 20 when meeting Yami which fits in the timeline better.
So let’s say vaguely 10 years is a single term, if each Wizard King stuck to that then there would have been 50 Wizard Kings instead, but clearly that isn’t the case. Unless the average Wizard King goes at it for about 2 or more terms. A WK isn’t limited to a set amount of terms, but a decade is 1 term. If the average is 2 terms per WK, that is 25 Wizard Kings, for a perfect 20 years divided, but we know Lumeire, Princia, Jester, Edward, and Conrad all had short terms.  All of these are assumptions, so head canon territory
Lumiere (Age of WK, year 1)
? WK 2 for ten years (the start of a single ‘term’ (year 11)
? WK 3 eighteen years (dies as WK) (year 29)
? WK 4  seven years (Year 35)
?  WK 5 for 23 years (died in third term) (Year 58)
? WK 6 for nineteen years (year 67)
? WK 7 for for twenty years (year 87)
?  Wk 8 had a term for four years, WK for forty years, retires to the next WK who wins in the tournament ( Year 127)
? WK 9 for 22 years ( year 149)
? Wk 10 for 27 years  (year 176)
Princia (based on age of death 2 years) (year 178)
? WK 12 for 36 years (year 214)
? Terms: 33 years (year 247)
? Wk for 35 years (282 EWK)
3 Wk terms for 24 years  (303 EWK)
Jester (Three years based on age of death) (306 EWK)
Terms: 40 years (346 Ewk)
term: 32 (378 Ewk)
? Wk for 16 years (394 EWK)
Edward (harder to say, he could have become the WK at 46 and had a twenty year term, but I don’t think he was. He was also a priest, which takes 5 years, and you have to be 25 years old. So say he became a priest at 30 years old, orphanage he cared for was burned down at 40 years of age, he became a WK, average time to rise for someone talented enough to be the WK is probably around 3-5 years to be a Captain, and then after that who knows. So became WK at maybe 46-47. Died twenty years later at 66, for his beliefs, but lived a fairly long term as WK (4th  century) (414 Ewk)
Term: 15 years (429 EWK)
Term: 8 years (437 EWK)
Term: 20 years (457 EWK)
Term: 7 years (464 EWK)
Term: 15 years (479 EWK)
Term: term 13 years (492 EWk)
Conrad (term: 8 years) (500 EWK)
Was a captain, so had to be at least 20
revoked of power at 35
It seems he was WK for a good while, probably at least 5 years, so giving him a 8 year term
Julius (11 years)  (511 EWK on Judgment day) ----- SO! My guess is that Grimoire ceremonies are in spring as we know, probably the equinox, because celestial event and all that. So makes sense that when we know that magic knight exam is 6 months later on the Autumn equinox! Which September 22nd! Which is 12 days until Asta turns 16!
So Day 2: Mission with Magna and Noelle about boar hunting which spirals out of control
Day 3: Dungeon with Luck and Noelle
….
Day: 4,5,6,7,8,9, and 10  Asta was asleep for a whole 7 days, and then the magic knight meeting and the attack on Capital….
Day 11: Asta goes out on the mixer, saying he is 15 (and it fits because it technically is October 3rd here).
Day 12: Asta’s birthday, hanging out with Rebecca, her siblings, and also Marie. (Ironic since it's supposed to be her birthday, but Asta literally calls himself 15 the day before)... So Asta is 16 from here on, and we know that he is part of the Black Bulls for a whole year before training begins! So training begins right before he turns 17. So a timeline!

It's a good job I love you!
Tumblr media
Heres to hoping im not to late. Im sure tumblr waits until Fridays to specifically mess up so i cant post 😭
Pairing -Bilbo/Thorin Warnings
No warnings, just fluff Words - 449
Summary - Bilbo sees that Thorin has once again forgotten to take the rubbish out, bloody husbands, he thinks exasperated. #247 - @flashfictionfridayofficial, also want to thank @littleoldrachel as this is number 30 of the prompt ask game.
Bilbo looked around his kitchen annoyed. Thorin had forgotten to take out the rubbish. AGAIN!
“Ugh,” he cried, as he threw his hands up in desperation. He loved Thorin. He adored Thorin with every part of his being, but sometimes he wanted to bloody strangle him.
He walked out of the kitchen and straight into Thorin's work room. Usually he stayed out of here, and Thorin stayed out of Bilbo's study, but today was the exception.
Bilbo marched in and then stopped, having to shake his head at the sight in front of him.
Thorin was bent over his desk, his magnification goggles half hanging off his head, caught in his hair. If he didn't look so adorable asleep, Bilbo would probably be more mad at him.
With a sigh, Bilbo walked forward and removed them from Thorin's hair gently, putting them to one side as he gently woke his husband up.
"Thorin, you need to get up," he said as he gently nudged him. Thorin woke up with a grunt and a sigh as he felt Bilbo's hands on his shoulder.
"Ghivishel?" he called blearily.
"I'm here, you're going to bed," Bilbo said firmly.
"But ..." Thorin went to argue before an enormous yawn caught him off guard.
"No buts," Bilbo said, broking no arguments. "Bed, I will wake you in a few hours. Tauriel's tiara isn’t going anywhere and you have months to finish it for the wedding. Bed Thorin," he ordered.
Bilbo felt more than heard Thorin's sigh as he stood and gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek before stumbling to bed.
Bilbo wondered back into the kitchen and looked at the state of it. He would have said something, but really, he didn't have a leg to stand on.
He was often writing at odd hours, and Thorin had to pick up his slack. Whatever being decided two overly creative men should fall in love must have had a terrible sense of humour, Bilbo thought with a snort.
With that, he started straightening out the kitchen and emptying the bin.
Even if this was the worst chore he could think of, plus the big bin lids were heavy, it didn't really matter to Bilbo, especially when he had a huge blind spot for Thorin, as Thorin did him.
The blind spot for his husband's flaws was unimportant (as was his annoyance) when Bilbo decided writing could wait as he had a tired husband in his bed, and a tired Thorin was a clingy Thorin, which was just another thing about him Bilbo adored.
Even if he was going to get an earful about not emptying the rubbish when they both awoke.

my spreadsheet (public version)
so i have this spreadsheet that i use for prompts for this fandom, comprised of several prompt lists and the exact order of which is not easily publicly available. if you want to send me a prompt, send me a ship and a number between 1-725 (subject to change) and receive a sort of mystery box surprise of a fic. through the use of this list, you can see what prompts have already been done. if it’s for another ship, you can certainly send me the same prompt that was already used in another fic. if a prompt has been used three times, that prompt will be closed. thank you for your cooperation <3 listing under the cut!
possible progress statuses: prompted, in progress, editing, posted. if a prompt does not have one of these statuses, it has not been sent in thus far.

“How many blog posts do you have in progress?” you might wonder if I write this social media update as in the voice of someone wondering what I wish to discuss.
247 are in varying stages of progress!
When I ran my design firm, we had an inflexible rule — we wouldn’t design a client’s blog until they had at least 1 year of content planned in at least the roughest of forms.
This 247 number will probably make 75-100 posts, a lot will be combined, more cut, etc. This is an excellent base to start from, plenty of fuel to keep going for years to come.

Holocure 0.5 Character Guide
This is going to be less in-depth than my 0.3 guides, because there are a lot more characters and I don't want to break this up into, like, half a dozen posts. (And even writing this much took way longer than I expected!) So I'll stick to the following information:
Name (self-explanatory)
Theme: A brief phrase identifying the character's mechanical strengths. Signature Skill: The character's skill which best exemplifies how they play. Not necessarily their most important one, and often not one you should focus on early. Favorite Weapon: The weapon I feel works best with their playstyle, and the collab of that weapon I feel works better. Key Item: The item I feel works best with their playstyle. Best Stamp: The stamp that I feel works best with their playstyle.
And a brief paragraph giving a broader explanation.
Akai Haato/Haachama Chama
Theme: Duality Signature Skill: Favorite Weapon: Spider Cooking/Broken Dreams Key Item: Idol Costume? Best Stamp: Projectile Up
To understand the mysteries of the Haato, you must also understand the Haachama, and vise versa. Her skills all revolve around different abilities used by the two halves of her self. Haato's half of the skills tend to be more defensive and Haachama's more offensive, but this isn't 100% consistent. You switch between the two as your (rapidly-charging) Special Attack, while Coexistence lets you briefly use both side's abilities (less commonly). I prefer to stick with Haachama most of the time, switching to Haato when I get low on HP or want the Special benefits, but YMMV.
Bounce Ball is more effective for Haato/chama.
Aki Rosenthal
Best-known to EN fans as "the one that looks like Haachama but isn't".
Theme: Debuffs Signature Skill: Belly Dancing Favorite Weapon: BL Book/Frozen Sea Key Item: Energy Drink? Best Stamp: Weaken Flower
Aki is a bit awkward to play. Part of that is her weird sorta-homing mostly-aimed two-part base attack, part of it is Belly Dancer not activating quite as quickly as it feels like it should. (Probably better than having it go off when you don't want it to, but still.) But once you get the hang of her, Aki can be fun to play.
Aki's special, her max-level base attack, and the Aromatherapy skill apply debuffs. More importantly, Mukirose deals increasing damage as more and more debuffs are applied to a target. Sources of debuffs include the Flower and Slow stamps, and the Rap Dog, Broken Dreams, and Frozen Sea weapons. And possibly Snow Flower Sake? (No items cause debuffs, as of 0.5.) Increasing Haste means these debuffs can be applied more rapidly.
But the real star of Aki's show is Belly Dancing. Move around to build up dancing charges, stand still for a second to release them in a screen-nuke. There doesn't seem to be any limit to this, which can get pretty wild, though I'm not sure how much you need to charge Belly Dancing.
In my first Aki run, 247 stacks were enough to wipe out Mikodanye (once I found a safe place to stand), but 157 wasn't enough to beat A-chan, and also I died immediately afterwards because I was standing still next to a danmaku emitter (with no defensive items). In retrospect, I probably should have picked a different boss to test on, but in my defense I didn't look at Aki's skills before the run. Still, the science was worth it!
Anyways, it seems like most non-boss enemies crumble under low two-digit stacks and midbosses can be handled by ~100, but I'd advise someone whose computer runs smoothly with damage numbers on to do some more testing.
Amelia Watson
Theme: generic Signature Skill: FPS Mastery Favorite Weapon: CEO's Tears/Ring of Fitness Key Item: Credit Card Best Stamp: Haste Up
Amelia Watson is the vanilla ice cream of HoloCure. She's not as bland as people claim, but she still makes for a good default to compare others to. Bubba is a pretty cool perk, and the pistol's aim is a bit narrow (though more flexible than before 0.5). Overall, though, she works well with pretty much any build. Pick a weapon that covers directions other than forward, then go wild.
AZKi
Theme: Momentum Signature Skill: Performance Favorite Weapon: Idol Song/Idol Concert? Key Item: Body Pillow Best Stamp: Size Up?
AZKi is a character who does well, as long as she's doing well. She gets substantial buffs to Speed, Haste, and dodge chance, which she loses if she takes damage. She needs to keep moving to build up her Performance buff. She explodes in song every several seconds, which deals more damage if she's been defeating plenty of enemies. It's possible to play as AZKi if you're not good at avoiding/defeating enemies, but the effects of good (or bad) play compound more than they do for most characters.
Calliope Mori
Theme: It's all about that scythe, 'bout that scythe, 'bout that scythe. No flail, it's all about that scythe, 'bout that scythe, 'bout that scythe. Signature Skill: Death Favorite Weapon: Spider Cooking/Broken Dreams Key Item: Idol Costume? Best Stamp: Solo Stamp?
Call's skills focus on making her scythe attack more powerful, to the point that her special just gives the scythe an extra buff. The Rapper also boosts other short-ranged weapons, and Workaholic requires a reasonably constant stream of defeated enemies, so stick with weapons that hit close enemies and keep close. Spider Cooking fills in the gap behind the scythe—not as critical now as before 0.3.1656470021, but still a useful gap to fill.
I haven't tried Calli with the Solo Stamp, but if anyone can master it, she can. Also, Bounce Ball is more effective for Calli.
Ceres Fauna
Theme: Healing Signature Skill: Guardian Tree Favorite Weapon: Spider Cooking/Broken Dreams Key Item: Nurse Horns Best Stamp: Life Steal
There are lots of healing-focused characters, but Fauna was the first (well, tied with IRyS) and the purest. Two of her skills and her special heal her, the third gives her healing something to do. Get as much healing as is practical. Also: Keep your enemies close, so Guardian Tree has something to hit when you heal.
Nurse Horns are effective, both because they trigger healing pretty often and because they can trigger Guardian Tree off of Guardian Tree kills. This makes it remarkably easy for Fauna to eliminate entire flocks of chickens/bats/etc; the only character with an easier time wiping those hordes out is Calli.
Gawr Gura
Theme: Death of a thousand cuts Signature Skill: Shark Bite Favorite Weapon: Spider Cooking/Broken Dreams Key Item: Energy Drink Best Stamp: Slow
Gura's Shark Bite skill encourages her to use weapons which can hit targets many times (notably the CEO Tears, Spider Cooking, and Lava Bucket). The Power of Atlantis drags enemies together, making it easier to hit enemies with tridents and the like; it also deals rapid minor damage. Short Height lets Gura get out of danger better.
Gura is flat, improving the effectiveness of Cutting and Flattening Boards. However, Bounce Ball is less effective.
Hakos Baelz
Theme: Critical hits (and randomness) Signature Skill: FPS Mastery Favorite Weapon: Glowstick/Idol Concert Key Item: Sake Best Stamp: Trumpet Projectile Up
Baelz is one of the few crit-based characters who I think actually needs crit chance boosts. Her skills boost crit chance to 40%, but CRATical Hit gives a "super-crit," which only happen 16% of the time; another 20-30% of critical hit rate won't make much difference, but in this case it also gives 20-33% cratical hit rate (ie, more than double). Baelz doesn't have any attack boosters or much in the way of defense; pick those up, too. Also consider which weapons would cause the most chaos when unleashing her special chaos; Spider Cooking and Fan Beam are boring, wide-spread projectile weapons are promising. (CEO Tears is promising as the last weapon to pick up once you have four collabs.)
Hoshimachi Suisei
Theme: Critical hits (and Tetris) Signature Skill: Suicopath Favorite Weapon: Psycho Axe/MiComet Key Item: GWS Pill Best Stamp: Crit Up
Suisei's skills all relate to critical hits. Suicopath boosts her crit chance, Blocks Master summons small Tetris blocks on crits, and Stellar boosts Attack on crits (which are then shared to nearby enemies). Plus, her awakened Axe Swing always crits and deals extra damage on crits. Pick up the Psycho Axe—it and its Collabs heal with Suicopath.
She also has two different abilities that cause Tetris blocks to smack your enemies, making me wonder if one of them was originally something different that had to be cut late in development because it wasn't coming together, or something.
Suisei is flat, improving the effectiveness of Cutting and Flattening Boards. However, Bounce Ball is less effective.
Inugami Korone
Theme: Aggression! Signature Skill: Endurance Favorite Weapon: Spider Cooking/Broken Dreams Key Item: Piki Piki Piman Best Stamp: Stun Stamp?
Korone plays best if you rush into danger and occasionally get hurt. Endurance blunts the damage you take and gives you a periodic buff if you get hit; Choco Coronet strengthens other healing, increases your max HP, and of course heals you a bit more. Korone's skills make it safe to get hit, Endurance rewards you for it, and Korone's punches make it necessary to get close to enemies (at least at first). Getting Spider Cooking, CEO Tears, or something similar to cover angles the punches don't cover should be an early priority.
IRyS IRyS
Theme: Criticals & Healing Signature Skill: Half-Angel Favorite Weapon: CEO Tears/Stream of Tears* Key Item: GWS Pill Best Stamp: Crit Up
IRyS's crit chance is increased by Hope. Half-Angel makes crits heal her. Half-Demon makes healing increase her attacks. Note that there's a limit to how often crits can heal IRyS (once every 0.3 seconds), and you can max out Half-Demon with a heal every 3-4 seconds, so she doesn't need that much item support. Low-level Nephilim Blast is a bit tricky to aim and doesn't pierce, so at low levels, position yourself carefully and keep an escape route open; it gets better.
Minato Aqua
Theme: Distance? Signature Skill: Sololive Favorite Weapon: BL Book/BL Fujoshi Key Item: Limiter Best Stamp: Projectile Up
The HoloCure team looked at Calli and Ina and Korone and Mio, and realized that they'd found a whole bunch of ways to encourage players to stick close to enemies but not much for the opposite. Aqua was, apparently, the best choice for the role. (I don't know enough about Aqua to know if this was an obvious choice or a "Sure, why not" choice.)
Sololive encourages you to keep a 75-px-radius area around you enemy-free; knockback weapons help with this. But Cleaning Maid also rewards you for keeping enemies within your Pickup Radius. (I haven't been able to find how long that is by default, but I don't think it's hard to extend it past 75px, or even Devil Hat's 150 px.)
Note that Minato Aqua's base HP is very low. This means that Injection-Type Asacoco deals less damage, but is perilous for rather self-explanatory reasons. The sacrifices we make for fandom references...
Murasaki Shion
Theme: Zones of Control Signature Skill: Magic Garlic Favorite Weapon: EN's Curse/Bone Bros Key Item: Headphones Best Stamp: ATK Up?
Shion has two skills which create zones that damage enemies and have positive effects on Shion, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice. Stick close to the garlic; if it wanders into a bad location, reset it with the warp thingies. There are probably other ways to use those, but I'm not sure how.
Cheeky Brat gives you a significant Attack boost whenever you avoid taking damage, which requires almost taking damage with some regularity. Therefore, stick close to enemies. But don't rely on the one dodge per 15 seconds you get from Cheeky Brat, like I belatedly realized I was doing my first run. And maybe get some healing.
Shion is flat, improving the effectiveness of Cutting and Flattening Boards. However, Bounce Ball is less effective.
Nakiri Ayame
Theme: Come closer, I want to hit you with my sword! Signature Skill: Nakirium Favorite Weapon: Bounce Ball/Absolute Wall Key Item: Just Bandage Best Stamp: Bomb
My first impression when playing Ayame was that she was the Second Coming of Calliope Mori. There's less focus on her katanas, but not no focus, and they're both encouraged to focus on nearby targets. However, while Calli just deals extra damage to nearby targets, Ayame gets extra XP from defeating them. To avoid losing XP, stick even more strongly to short-range weapons and avoid effects like Knightly Milk.
Nanashi Mumei
Theme: Growth Signature Skill: History Favorite Weapon: Any Key Item: Any (except Special-related items) Best Stamp: Projectile Up
Like Amelia, Mumei's skills give pretty generic bonuses and include a companion who attacks and picks up drops. Unlike Ame, Mumei's skills have a clear mechanical theme: They get stronger over time. Still, not much special strategy here. Keep in mind that History lvl 2/3 does nothing until you've reached 5,050 or 7,550 kills (respectively), and doesn't do much until well after that point. Also keep in mind that True Horror destroys drops 70% of the time; do not use it if you don't need to.
Natsuiro Matsuri
Theme: "Touch me and die" Signature Skill: Seiso Representative Favorite Weapon: Spider Cooking/Elite COoking Key Item: Body Pillow Best Stamp: Slow?
In my first playthrough, the most notable thing about Matsuri was her basic weapon's movement. Ebifrion moves relative to the aimed direction; spinning the cursor clockwise makes it move faster, spinning counterclockwise can make it stop. If you're using mouse aim to spin clockwise, you can spin more quickly if the cursor is near Matsuri; I could consistently get 2-3 rotations per strike if I focused on precise spinning (as opposed to, say, movement or whether any enemies were about to hurt me). With aim locked to movement, I could get about half that many.
In any case, it makes Matsuri seem like a decent candidate for a no-movement run (if you're aiming with mouse or a second control stick). Outside that situation, I recommend getting enough forward-firing weapons that you have to stop playing around and just aim at the nearest cluster of weapons—you'll get more done that way.
With that aside: Matsuri is another character who encourages you to get close to enemies. Seiso Representative helps protect you from damage; it and GOD can damage nearby enemies. Most significantly, Cheerleader doesn't do anything if you're not regularly killing enemies within 100 pixels—a much shorter distance than it sounds. Avoid anything that increases your range. No big weapons, no Knightly Milk, no Size Up stamp. It's probably not necessary, but you can absolutely screw yourself out of cheerleading if you (for instance) grab BL Fujoshi at a time when the enemies are too weak to survive getting to the 100px mark. Yeah, I guess you're doing fine if
The Special is a bit tricky—not because it's hard, exactly, but because rhythm gaming requires a different mindset. Switching between rhythm gaming, VS-style gameplay, and messing around with Ebifrion makes it hard to excel at any one of them.
Matsuri is flat, improving the effectiveness of Cutting and Flattening Boards. However, Bounce Ball is less effective.
Nekomata Okayu
Theme: Food & eating Signature Skill: Yummy Favorite Weapon: Spider Cooking/Broken Dreams Key Item: Uber Sheep Best Stamp: Haste Up?
Fun lie: HoloCure developer Kay Yu is named after O-kay-yu.
The first thing you'll notice about Okayu is that her onigiri are hard to aim. Because of this, and because her skills mostly involve healing or eating enemies, I recommend focusing on short-range weapons (especially ones that cover angles that you keep missing with onigiri); the risk of getting close to enemies is minimized by all the food you eat. Speaking of which: I've never tried a food-based Injection Asacoco build, but if I was going to, I'd pick Okayu.
I believe that enemies that get eaten due to Sensitive Voice or Mogu Mogu still drop XP, but it would get picked up too quickly to be seen, and when I tried to X-ray Okayu to check, she tried to eat me.
Ninomae Ina'nis
Theme: Crowds Signature Skill: The Void? Favorite Weapon: BL Book/BL Fujoshi Key Item: Headphones Best Stamp: Size Up?
Ina is, in some ways, a very simple character to play. She has a couple other skills that make it safer to be surrounded by enemies and a special attack that absolutely devastates all the enemies surrounding her. In other ways, though, you need to throw her into the middle of enemy swarms to play well, and it can be tricky to survive that. It's certainly less important now that Cult has been removed, but staying close to enemy crowds makes it more likely for The Forbidden Wah to activate.
Ina is flat, improving the effectiveness of Cutting and Flattening Boards. However, Bounce Ball is less effective.
Ookami Mio
Theme: "I can't beat the sh*t out of you without getting closer." Signature Skill: Cheerful Laugh Favorite Weapon: BL Book/BL Fujoshi Key Item: Breastplate Best Stamp: Weaken Flower
I'm not just referencing JJBA because of Hatotaurus, though Hato's definitely a significant part of Mio's build. The other reason is that Mio...well...beats the sh*t out of enemies better when she gets close to them. She has one skill that makes nearby enemies take more damage, and another that heals you more the more enemies are around (rewarding you for keeping enemies close while blunting the danger). You'll probably want more healing, though, especially in stages with lots of bullets (which damage you but don't increment Mama).
Oozora Subaru
Theme: You ain't ever gonna keep me down Signature Skill: Sunny Optimism Favorite Weapon: BL Book/Frozen Sea Key Item: Just Bandage? Best Stamp: Size Up
Subaru's skills revolve around reducing risks. Oozora Police's handcuffs go all Derek Chauvin on any enemies close enough to Subaru; the radius is extremely small, but non-boss enemies just vanish, so it's still pretty effective (until you run out of handcuffs). Likewise, Sunny Optimism basically lets you build up a backup HP pool that activates if you get killed. Duck Whisper...um...well, it serves as an attack that covers angles the baseball doesn't, which is most of them?
Okay, it's a weak theme. But it all encourages Subaru to get close to enemies, especially once she awakens her baseball and wants it to start hitting enemies as soon as it's thrown, the better to use its bonus damage.
Ouro Kronii
Theme: Speed (and pride) Signature Skill: Perfection Favorite Weapon: Bounce Ball/Ring of Fitness Key Item: Body Pillow Best Stamp: Stun
Kronii has a lot of boosts to Speed and Haste. Under optimal conditions, her skills provide 2.25x speed and +60% Haste, plus bonuses to Attack, Crit, and Pickup Distance. However, to maintain those optimal conditions, you need to be at full HP and crit with your clock hands every few seconds. The latter condition is easier (especially late-game), but less important; keeping Kronii at full HP is a major build consideration. Beyond that...be aware that you can run sideways while your clock hands are out to "swipe" them through a crowd of enemies. Most weapons work pretty well on Kronii.
Bounce Ball is extremely effective for Kronii.
Roboco San
Theme: Upgrades Signature Skill: Hi-Level Favorite Weapon: Spider Cooking/Broken Dreams Key Item: Study Glasses Best Stamp: Bomb?
Roboco is a pretty straightforward character. Her weapon is focused but flexible, and her skills grant basic bonuses that work with any build. Just pick up a weapon that covers the directions you aren't shooting...and stuff Roboco with XP, of course. Hi-Level demands as many levels as possible, Discharge only works if you continue to jam XP into her charging port, and Battery Charged gives you more XP for the purpose. Pick up Battery Charged ASAP, alongside Study Glasses (even if they first show up later than you'd normally consider the glasses). Also consider picking up Halu to buff Roboco—more enemies means more XP, after all!
Sakura Miko
Theme: ...I don't know. Signature Skill: Eroge Hero Favorite Weapon: Elite Lava Bucket/MiComet** Key Item: Energy Drink? Best Stamp: Stun?
I'll be blunt, I dunno what to make of Miko's kit. I understand each individual component, mind you! Eroge Hero gives you regeneration as long as you keep conquering enemies, Elite gives you bonuses to ATK & SPD if you keep that regen up, Baby Language? creates damaging/debuffing Nyehs. But I don't see any theme, and I don't see much synergy, and I don't play Miko enough to have any useful intuition about her playstyle.
Keep in mind that MiComet inherits its Elite-ness from the ELB.
Shirakami Fubuki
Theme: Speed Signature Skill: Fox King Favorite Weapon: CEO Tears/Stream of Tears?* Key Item: Energy Drink Best Stamp: Slow
Who needs a hedgehog when you have a cat? Fubuki doesn't actually have the highest base speed, but she more than makes up for it with skills that boost her speed, let her dodge attacks, and increase her damage with speed buffs. Pick up items that boost Speed, and avoid weapons that you can outrun. Kon Kon and Friendzone mean it's usually safe to run through a thin line of enemies, but be careful not to try this with a crowd.
Takanashi Kiara
Theme: Running away Dance Signature Skill: Dancer Favorite Weapon: Elite Lava/MiComet Key Item: Idol Costume? Best Stamp: Reverse Stun
Kiara is arguably the most newbie-friendly character in the game. He sword hits a wide area, her special attack and skillsprovide straightforward boosts and safety nets, Trailblazer lets you damage enemies by running away. What's not to like? Just make sure you keep moving and you should be fine.
Tokino Sora
Theme: Restoration Signature Skill: Idol Healing Favorite Weapon: Idol Song/Idol Concert Key Item: Uber Sheep Best Stamp: Life Steal
Sora is yet another character who does special things when she heals, which incidentally makes her the only character who (sometimes) feels like she's restoring fans instead of beating the sh*t out of them. When she heals, fans near her come closer to being restored/beaten up. (Incidentally, this is the only on-heal effect that cares about how much you healed.) Idol Healing and Idol Dream both encourage you to stick close to enemies (so they can be "healed"), so weapons that can cover your blind spots are critical. Ankimo helps, but don't rely on him.
Yozora Mel
Theme: Life-Steal Signature Skill: Genius Vampire Favorite Weapon: Spider Cooking/Eldritch Horror Key Item: Nurse's Horns Best Stamp: Bomb?
Another healing-based character...sort of. Mel's basic attack steals life from its victims, Acerola Juice lets other attacks (occasionally) do the same, and Genius Vampire encourages you to steal as much life as possible for your fuzzy flying friends. In my test, her base kit plus horns was plenty to fight off Injection-Type Asacoco. What weapons should she grab? Aside from Eldritch Horror's innate life-steal and making sure you cover angles that don't get Kapu'd, slow-firing weapons might be best; Acerola adds life-steal to a fixed number of attacks per glass.
Note that the Life Steal stamp does not seem to actually heal via life-steal. It just heals via healing. Also, Bounce Ball is more effective for Mel.
Yuzuki Choco
Theme: ICU (In Critical, Unharm) Signature Skill: Nurse (natch) Favorite Weapon: Bounce Ball Key Item: Uber Sheep/Sake (I couldn't decide—they work too well with each other and Choco's skills) Best Stamp: Life Steal
There are two sides to Choco. On one hand, she charms enemies, turning them against other fans; this is neat and handy, but has relatively little impact on strategy (other than encouraging critical builds). She also has yet another spin on healing being important. In this case, healing can be critical (presumably at an equal rate to critical hits), which heals extra and also damages "cures" nearby enemies. This damage seems to increase with critical hit damage, so Hope Soda is more appealing than for typical crit builds.
Bounce Ball is extremely effective for Choco.
Tsukumo Sana
Last but not least; gone but not forgotten.
Theme: BEEEG Signature Skill: Speaker of Space Favorite Weapon: Wamy Water/Frozen Sea Key Item: Knightly Milk Best Stamp: Size Up
Sana's builds focus around big, overlapping, indiscriminate area attacks. Built properly, it's easy to run Sana; enemies can't get close without running into several of your weapons, which hit entire hordes as hard as they do lone roamers. Her biggest weakness is that she can't focus fire on bosses; Wamy Water is a good area weapon which can do this to some extent. Her biggest irritation is that XP is scattered all around her, to the horizon and beyond; her special helps mitigate this, but only a bit. If the Knightly Milk wasn't basically the only area-increasing effect (aside from Speaker of Space), I'd consider suggesting Limiter as her key item. (Especially since, you know, it's hers.)
Bounce Ball is extremely effective for Sana.

My #1 post of 2022

I crocheted this cat-approved hue shift for a friend’s 40th birthday last year.
I’m working on a second hue shift for another friend right now, and after I was done crocheting all the squares, I realized I screwed up the pattern in a way that’s gonna be a pain in the butt to fix and I’m still grumpy about it. So I’m posting this one to remind myself (and you!) that even if something’s not perfect it’ll still be good. 🌈💛
[Image Description:
Two photos of a rainbow-colored crocheted Hue Shift blanket with a thick black border, laid out neatly on a hardwood floor. In the first photo, two gray tuxedo cats are sitting on the blanket, one looking up at the camera while the other looks at the first cat.

Chapter Thoughts: 375, Chaotic Confusion
Sorry for the delay on this and other writings, all. The holidays got very hectic very fast. I really only pushed this one out before another week or two went by because I took a day off to finish it and run some errands. I won't say this is the last thing I'll post this year—I should have at least some downtime during an upcoming trip to visit family!—but fingers crossed for catching up more in the new year, anyway.
That said, to make a start, RIP to Moonfish having any relevance post-Tartarus, apparently. Man, I'm so tired of previously consequential villains getting pulled out of mothballs because that's easier than coming up with a bunch of new ones only for them to be unceremoniously disposed of when the crowd scene they're in is over.
Like, did Toga even notice an OG League member was there?
(See below the cut for much, much more. I had a lot to say this week, though a regrettable amount of it is Stillness-brand finicky overlong breakdowns of easy-to-overlook plot holes or quibbles about grammatical omissions that change the tone of the material.)
O  The descriptors of Toga’s evasion ability continue to be all over the place, to the point that I’m wondering if it’s intentional.  I want over that in some detail in this post, so I won’t repeat myself here(1) save to note that the varied descriptions of lacking intent (Chapter 105), loving intent (Chapter 247), basically misdirection (this chapter), complex and nuanced (also this chapter), cannot fool heightened senses (Chapter 266), and limited in how many people can be fooled at once (this chapter again) do not add up to anything remotely cohesive to me.
Ochaco is, of course, just theorizing, so there’s no guarantee that she’s right, but I don’t really even follow her own internal logic.  If Toga’s move is “basically misdirection,” what makes it so nuanced?  Why would it being complicated mean it only works on a limited number of people?
If the contradictions aren’t intentional, then I wonder if it’s, rather, another case of Horikoshi running into trouble when he tries to overexplain things.  Obviously some explanation is important, but even in this very chapter, there’ll be another, even worse, example of the kinds of problems that arise from trying to anticipate every question and answer it in advance.
O  As @codenamesazanka mentioned here, it’s real good to see members of the League putting their faith in Spinner!  His feelings get the job done, regardless of his quirk loadout.  It especially suits Toga, who of course has an affinity for maidens in love strong feelings of admiration towards others.
O  The chemical to attract Noumu feels like one of those things that raises more questions than it’s really worth.  Like, wow, that sure is a thing that we’re going to see once and then literally never have come up again.  I’d love to be surprised on that front, but like, it doesn’t even bring the Noumu stomping over in this chapter, just makes it throw one (1) volley at attacks at Tsuyu.  Feels like it would have been simpler to just let Toga get the sip in.  Or have the vial contain something acidic from Ujiko’s lab, or something with a foul taste, or anything that would buy Toga two seconds of breathing room and be less of a curveball than a one-off Noumu attractor that’s apparently highly water soluble, given that it seems to lose its effectiveness literal seconds after coming into contact with Tsuyu’s saliva.
That small gripe aside, I do like the idea of Toga having a decoy, for two reasons.  Firstly, and more recently, she had front-row seats for the value of having backup doses courtesy of Kirishima using Mina’s helping of drugs on Gigantomachia.
Secondly, and further back, she was present for Mister’s big fancy marble misdirection at the training camp.(2)  Certainly, this panel of her—
Tumblr media
—looks more like someone who’s making a biiiig, obvious show of what she’s about to do than someone interested in successfully doing it.  No need to dangle that vial several inches away from her own mouth if the plan was to ingest it!  Sako would be so proud.
O  I love that the word “miracle” is used to describe the Dead Man’s Parade.  Yes, Dabi’s foresight, Spinner’s will, and Toga’s love did all combine to produce this result, and yes, it is a miracle, because if the fights ended here and now, all that would happen is that the villains would get dropped in jail, forgotten about, and likely eventually executed.  The kids are all still too aligned with the status quo for me to believe it would go any different.  So three cheers for the shake-up.
O  I flagrantly adore Himijin’s wide-eyed expression when Ochaco calls out to her to try and lure her back with rabu rabu talk, and the way her eyes go narrow and she responds with resignation.  She recognizes (or thinks she does) that Ochaco doesn’t actually want to have girls’ talk with her; it’s just a delaying tactic, the same thing Shouto tried on Dabi last chapter with the same lack of results.
(I note additionally that neither Dabi nor Toga fell for it, whereas All For One, despite reflecting on needing to meet back up with his vessel, was more than happy to dally about taking questions from Hawks.  This is because AFO is a comic book evil overlord who can no more stop gloating than he can stop breathing.)
O  Hawks’ internal monologue is the other place I had in mind when I talked about Horikoshi over-explaining things.  Buckle up for a lot of quibbling, then consider:
1: There isn’t really a need for Hawks to be able to jump to this conclusion.  Indeed, I should think it would be more effective if he had that heart-in-his-throat confusion about whether he missed a double somewhere, if this is a ghost, some kind of Noumu resurrection, or if Jin himself actually managed to survive somehow, only for a terrible understanding to dawn when the knives come out.
2: Toga was never noted as being particularly close with Hawks, so there’s no immediate reason to assume that he’d have found out about her quirk evolution during his infiltration.  This might sound like selling him short—why wouldn’t word have gotten around where he could hear about it, after all?—save that we already have an example of the heroes lacking crucial information about what happened in Deika.
When Shigaraki unleashed Decay at the hospital basement, Gran Torino is surprised that it’s spreading to things Shigaraki hasn’t touched.  His subsequent line—“This is the one thing we didn’t know about—his enhancements!”—implies an assumption that this is a result of Shigaraki’s surgery, not a change to his quirk itself.  Ergo, proliferating Decay was not part of Hawks’ information communicated to the HPSC to help shape battle tactics.
Hawks did know about Twice getting past his mental block, but Twice’s capabilities were already a matter of record from his pre-trauma days, Hawks was around Twice constantly, and Twice was an inveterate chatterbox.  Those things were not true of Shigaraki, nor were they true of Toga, which means it’d make more sense for Toga’s change, like Shigaraki’s, to have gone undiscovered until Ochaco told an adult about it after Toga informed her directly at Jakku.
Does it make more sense that Hawks would have found out about all of this during his infiltration, presumably because the MLA and Twice both would have been all abuzz about what happened in Deika?  Well, yes, honestly.  But there’s a lot about Hawks’ infiltration that starts to break down when you look at it critically, so it would perhaps behoove Horikoshi to stop drawing attention to it.
3: How and when exactly did Hawks destroy all of Toga’s stored blood samples?  Doesn’t she usually keep those on her person or safe in a marble in Mr. Compress’s keeping?
Toga, of all the members of the League, is by far the most perceptive of her surroundings, see e.g. her being the first to note Slidin’ Go’s approach in Chapter 224.  When she thinks, in her battle with Curious, that people are just a little bit kinder to high school girls, it’s suggestive of her having become exceptionally attuned—one might even say hair-triggered—to anything around her that might present a danger.  Color me skeptical that she wouldn’t notice any errant red feathers flicking about, especially in the immediate wake of the sound of breaking glass, or that neither she nor anyone else would ask questions if she found her stores ruined.
4: Hawks’s line implies that he was so mindful of the possibility of Toga being able to use Twice’s blood that he specifically and personally went back to the ruins of the villa to clean up the scene of Twice’s death.  This strikes me as a pretty big stretch, given that he was hospitalized for his egregious burns and then was running around with Best Jeanist checking on other people, like his mother and Endeavor, and exactly how long would Twice’s body/the bloodstains have been left alone after heroes secured the villa?
Did Hawks first regain consciousness in the medical tent in the woods around the villa and have to shake off a bunch of doctors plus Tokoyami to return to the scene of his crime before the day was even over?  Or was it days later, Twice’s body long since recovered and dealt with in whatever fashion it was dealt with,(3) and all Hawks was doing was scrubbing and/or burning the patch of floor Jin bled out on?
Either way, it seems much simpler for this to get delegated to a specialized clean-up crew, except that, whoops, the HPSC was in disarray, so there wouldn’t have been one of those available.  So if Hawks had to attend to it himself, be it hours or days later, then he should have known the body was left unattended for a period of time.  And if that’s the case, then…
5: Why didn’t he foresee this possibility?  He knows good and well that Dabi was still up and on his feet after Tokoyami got him out of there.  Sure, Dabi was unlikely to have stray vials on his person, but the villa was a huge resort—it’s not so strange to imagine he could have rustled up a plastic cup(4) from somewhere.
Frankly, though, Dabi isn’t even the most likely culprit for a blood stash.  Like, if he’d had that blood all along, why on earth wouldn’t he have given it to Toga on Gigantomachia?(5)  Just spread Twices all the way from Wakayama to Kyoto!
The fact that that didn’t happen must have led to Hawks thinking he was in the clear once he cleaned up the body.  But then, who could have gotten access to a stash of blood?  Dabi was there, yes, but the much more obvious answer is Ujiko.
Ujiko had clearly been doing some work with Twice given the existence of Mocha, whose use of Double Mirko personally witnessed and survived to debrief about later.  Ujiko’s lab was disintegrated before the heroes had a chance to recover shit from it, but the heroes do know that Shigaraki managed to spare a bunch of Noumu and deleter rounds from his initial Decay wave.  Why not assume he managed to spare some blood vials, too?
Alternatively, consider that Ujiko left gifts behind for AFO in a backup location, including some kind of substance that triggered the latter’s Rewind—a Rewind he name-dropped out loud, in Hawks’ immediate presence.
Ujiko couldn’t have gotten access to Rewind until he got Overhaul’s sample from Shigaraki, well after AFO was imprisoned.  AFO in turn couldn’t have gotten access to it until after he escaped from Tartarus, after Ujiko was taken into custody and the hospital destroyed.  Ergo, Ujiko had to have left something in a secondary location AFO knew to seek out.  Given that, why would it be such a stretch to assume he left some samples for Toga’s use, too?  All to further the dream of the Lord of Evil.
That, in any case, is a more logical explanation(6) than Dabi having time to jet himself back up to Twice’s body, find some kind of way to get a useable blood sample from it, then travel all the way back down to wherever Skeptic had holed up to retrieve him before Gigantomachia managed to snatch him up, and then not give Toga the blood right then and there.
The fact that Hawks jumps to Dabi as an explanation and then ends his train of thought there kind of feels like Horikoshi wants to present Hawks as smart enough to the correct but farfetched conclusion rather than thinking about what conclusions Hawks might naturally come to given everything he knows.(7)
6:  You know what else would have been super easy and avoided this whole thing?  Toga wonders to herself if the heroes knew about Jin’s blood, and that’s why they put her on an island—just let her be right.  Say that Hawks did have her put on an island just in case.  It’s an incredible longshot, and he did everything he could to circumvent it, and probably they would have seen Toga’s Parade by now if it was going to be a problem, but—just in case.
Instead of being about Jin's presence or Toga's possession of his blood, have Hawks' shock and panicky, frantic jumble of thoughts be about the warp gate and what its appearance implies about what happened at Central Hospital.
Hell, that would even be a nice nod to the fact that, despite being a heteromorph himself, Hawks was not immune to badly underestimating the anger of the heteromorph protestors because he, with his isolated government upbringing, sick red angel wings, incredibly useful quirk, and conventionally handsome face, was never subjected to hate crimes over his quirk status.
To restate, then, aaaaall of these issues could have been avoided by not drawing our attention to them and then half-assing the explanation—exactly the same situation as Hawks and Jeanist’s awful expository conversation about how Hawks personally went and revived Jeanist in time for the raid during a time in which his wings were absolutely dripping with micro cameras.
There are so many ways Hawks could have reacted here that wouldn’t be trying to have it both ways: that the allegedly hypercompetent and incredibly meticulous Hawks completely planned for how to neutralize Toga’s powers but then is somehow shocked, just shocked, that the villains might have had a stock he didn’t account for.
The only thing I can think of is that it’s something in Hawks’ bias about the League.  Perhaps he didn’t conceive of them as having the patience or strategic acumen to not use Jin’s blood at the first opportunity, or he thought of Dabi as too much a lone wolf to care about going back to Jin’s body.  It would not be the first time he badly misjudged the League because of a blind spot in his own mindset.
However, even if either of those is meant to be the case—that he misjudged the League’s patience or Dabi’s camaraderie—neither clicks with him being so meticulous as to go back and clean up the blood traces Just In Case.  If he really were that meticulous, then this shouldn’t have blindsided him to begin with.
As ever, I wonder if Horikoshi is overcompensating because he Has A Trauma from all those letters about Deku’s 1,000,000% Smash against Muscular.
…Okay, wow, where was I?
O  It kind of feels like the last two pages should be reorganized a bit?  I assume they’re in the correct order because the panels of Tsuyu throwing Ochaco have the faintest overlay of Flashback Filter, and Ochaco’s in that last array of panels, but it’s a bit silly to have that big dramatic panel of Ochaco and Tsuyu coming through the portal only to immediately cut to a flashback of how it happened.
It feels like the chapter could have used one more page.  Cut from Kinoko’s dismay back to the beach to show the portal closing, have Tsuyu throw Ochaco through it, then back to the villa ruins for Ochaco coming through and pulling Tsuyu after her, ending with the row of character panels and the reporter image.
That aside, my congratulations and appreciation to Ochaco for her time and consideration in making sure Tsuyu stays relevant to this plot, rather than just using her for the yeet and leaving her in the dust which is what Deku would have done.
I wish them all the best in their pursuit of dialogue, but in the meantime, GET THAT FLYBOY, TOGA.  GET HIS ASS.
I know I complained a lot above, but I really did enjoy this chapter on the whole, largely for what a great showcase it is for Toga being sharp as a tack while still being emotionally resonant. Here's to more of Hawks making all the wrong decisions next time!
...But also, I do have some more complaining to do first. None of the stuff below is on Horikoshi—indeed, there's one bit of potential plot I'm very excited about that I didn't talk about above because the potential foreshadowing was lost in translation. Further, plenty of the points below may not really be the fault of Caleb Cook. I don't know the style guide he's working under, nor what sort of editing passes for tone or voice get made on his work after he turns it in.
Whoever's at fault, however, I have an unusually high number of issues this week, so I just moved them all to the end in place of the usual Stray Notes section. I may keep that up going forward so as to better distinguish between criticism of a chapter's actual content and criticism of issues unique to the English release.
Translation and Rendition Quibbles
O  ANAL-RETENTIVE GRAMMAR NITPICK ALERT.
“Coming to terms” feels like an unnecessarily clunky translation for the sentiment teinen is expressing—a feeling of resignation, reaching a state of understanding or acceptance.  Even setting aside the Japanese, the English usage feels very strange, because “coming to terms” would typically be a verb phrase, a phrase that states the action the subject of a sentence is taking upon the direct object of a sentence.  One “comes to terms” or “came to terms” or even “is coming to terms” with something or someone—subject, verb, object.
The usage here, however, is a gerund phrase.  A gerund is a verb that is acting as a noun.  Here, “coming to terms” is (along with “her rancor”) the subject of the sentence, with “completed” being the verb describing the action that subject takes upon the sentence’s object, “her transformation.”
While I suppose it’s not necessarily wrong, in that I understand the meaning, it doesn’t feel right, either—at the very least, it feels incomplete.  Because the phrase in question so specifically begs for an object to be acting upon, using it as a subject in and of itself while omitting the object—the thing/person being come to terms with—leaves the sentence feeling vague, lacking crucial information.  The reader can fill in that information based on the accompanying flashback panel, but it is, again, so much clunkier than just using a single word like “resignation” or “acceptance.”  Heck, “resignation” would even give a nice little alliteration with “rancor.”
O  It is very sigh-inducing that the decision not to do anything to retain the meaning of the -tachi in Spinner’s plea to save Shigaraki-tachi two weeks ago has now resulted in Kurogiri turning up echoing that he has to save Shigaraki and his allies without those words actually tying correctly to Spinner’s earlier words.
O  Another case this week of punctuation woes.  Togawice is supposed to have an ellipsis before she responds to Kurogiri’s question—she doesn’t have that answer on the tip of her tongue.  For all that the narration claims that she’s completely become a villain at this point, she still hesitates before she gives an answer involving violence.  The official release loses this nuance by having her seem to respond immediately.
O Another thing I think is interesting that gets obscured somewhat in translation is the verb Toga uses—kakusan, which means things like spread, diffuse, disseminate, scatter.  This seems like a request that is not going to be met by Kurogiri dropping Togawice in a single location, so I will be extremely unsurprised if, within the next few chapters, we see a bunch more portals with a BUNCH more Parades pouring through them.  She did say she wanted to start with Hawks, of course, but why stop there?  There’s literally no reason not to dump self-replicating doubles through as many portals as Kurogiri has coordinates for.(8)
Aside from being strategically sound, it would also be a nice echo of Sad Man’s Parade coming to Shigaraki and Spinner’s rescue in Deika, though it remains to be seen whether it’ll be as loud and raucous as Jin’s Parade, or whether, being composed entirely of Togas-masquerading-as-Jin, it will be eerily silent.
O  I mentioned this a few days ago, but Jesus fucking Christ, what is up with every translator in the usual pipeline who looked at this chapter apparently completely missing the very prominent and obvious “death” kanji in Toga’s version of the Sad Man’s Parade?  It’s even in the furigana, which reads: saddo manzu desu paredo.  I realize everyone and their mother is in a huge hurry to get this stuff out as quickly as possible for the clicks, but come on.
---------------- FOOTNOTES ----------------
1: I have in fact been over it twice, somewhat embarrassingly, but let it be said that I don’t have the best memory for what rants I have or haven’t been on, hence my occasional broken record harping.
2:  She bailed before the big reveal, but she’d already seen the first part, where Shouji thought he got the real marbles back and Compress was flagrantly unconcerned, even stopping Dabi from going on the attack again to recover them. That doubtlessly was not the only time she ever saw Mr. C perform sleight of hand, either.
3:  Which, incidentally, just begs for fanfic.  What did happen to Twice’s body after it was recovered by the heroes?
4:  Or a bloodstained handkerchief.
5:  Looking for a Watsonian answer to that highly pertinent question, I’d venture to say Dabi knew the time for his broadcast was coming up and he didn’t want anyone or anything to distract from it.
6:  It would lose some thematic resonance to have the blood come from Ujiko’s stores rather than being secured by a League member directly from Twice’s body, but it makes a lot more sense than Dabi running around back and forth through the chaos of battle like a video game character trying to secure all a level’s key items before he gets defeated by a hero, runs out of stamina, or the Machia Timer hits zero.
7:  Terry Pratchett once wrote a mini-rant about detectives who use tiny clues to make huge, sweeping assumptions, Sherlock Holmes-style, when there are a thousand other possible explanations the detective conveniently ignores because the author knows those ones are wrong.  Regardless of whether that's fair to Doyle and his imitators, it’s still the case that Hawks definitely did NOT eliminate every other possible factor to leave only the improbable truth.
8:  Yes, I will consider this to be another example of the villains’ capabilities getting nerfed if it doesn’t happen, just like that massive underground organization full of heroes, politicians, and god only knows what other sorts of public figures they allegedly had that had zero personal impact on a single heroic character.
