I literally dont know how to continue explaining to people that part of the reason Goku decided to stay dead was because Gohan hated fighting.

He didnt know this until cell. He literally had no idea. Gohan NEVER gave any indication whatsoever. Couple that with the fact Bulma pointed out most of people threatening the Earth during that point in time were all people wanting Goku. The saiyans. Frieza. The androids. Doctor Gero. Cell.

All because of Goku. Its not his fault but his very existence consistently put the Earth in danger. He truly believed Earth would be safer without him and therefore, gohan wouldnt be consistently placed into battle.

Because Goku didnt know gohan hated fighting. But once he knew came the very interwoven nature of these threats he brought making his own son fight because gohan felt he HAD to. Not because he wanted to. For goku, protecting the earth always aligned with his own love for fighting. But gohan fought out of necessity, out of the very idea that they couldnt afford to do it without him. He has this power he didnt ask for so he must use it right? Because it would be selfish if he didnt.

But goku... goku thought gohan was like him. Gohan WANTED to return to help fight vegeta. He WANTED to go to namek. He WANTED to stay and fight after piccolo almost died to frieza. Goku didnt see gohan train that first year. Didnt witness what it took to make gohan a fighter. All he saw was his son who now was strong and wanted to join the fight like his dad. And he knows gohan is more powerful than them, knows he can stop cell, FELT IT. Gohan has to defeat cell because no one else can. So he thinks if gohan gets angry enough fighting cell, itll be the answer. Because thats how its always been for goku. And in thirty seconds piccolo makes him realize he's wrong. He doesnt argue back, he listens and concedes and realizes that piccolo is right. And suddenly goku wants to abandon his plan and stop the fight. He made a mistake. He intends to get gohan out. And in the end, he still ended up being right, but it doesnt change what goku now knows. Gohan isnt like him and he doesnt enjoy fighting.

Goku would have NEVER made gohan fight if he thought he didnt want to. You know this whenever adult gohan gets involved in a fight and goku apologizes that he had to. Or when someone suggests gohan for a battle and goku is like nah he's "out of practice," even when they have time FOR PRACTICE. He never wants to force gohan into a situation like cell again. Because cell was a mistake and goku has learned from it. So he never asks Gohan to fight anymore. If Gohan wants in then of course he's in. But he wants his son to be able to choose that. He wants gohan to be HAPPY and if thats not fighting then thats perfectly alright with goku.

So it wasnt just about keeping the earth safe. Or his friends. It was knowing that in the safety of gokus absence, gohan wouldnt have to fight either. There would be less threats, less chances of his son being forced into battle. And sure he also trusted that gohan and the others could keep the earth safe if they had to, but he was banking on the threat level significantly decreasing instead.

And decrease it did. They had seven whole years of peace. Not a single threat. Meanwhile from the moment Raditz shows up to gokus death to cell, it all takes place within the span of FIVE YEARS. The longest they went without a threat was the three year gap spent training for the androids. And they spent every waking moment knowing they were coming.

And then if you look at trunks future... majority of the human population being wiped out by the androids. Majority of gokus friends. His son. All dead. Because of him. Because he defeated the red ribbon army when he was a child. And that very easily could have been their future as well. So Goku does his job in preventing that. He saves all of them. And if hes the only one who ends up dead, well... it doesnt matter. Because they aren't. And he intends to keep it that way. So he stays in otherworld, to keep them safe and to give his son a future that he can choose. If Gohan has to fight, then he can. But at least his father wouldnt be the one bringing the threats to his door.

Genre: Cyberpunk What is this game?: Hardwired Island is a cyberpunk game about being broke citizens in the first space station city on earth 

How's the gameplay?: Hardwired Island uses a 2d6+Bonus system, inspired by PBTA, but the game itself isn't exactly that. Hardwired's character creation is one of its big draws, being fairly simple but allowing many different character concepts, maybe you're an android street fighter, wanting to enter the big leagues, or an ex-military drone operator, wanting to atone for your crimes, character creation works by picking a background, Occupation, and 2 traits, which lets you get really flexible with your character! Backgrounds have misc abilities and determine your character's skills (which you get to create yourself, so if you want your character to be really good at niche internet drama, you can!), Occupations give you powerful abilities that make you really good at things that other people can do worse, and traits are just random abilities and events in your character's history. The Big Thing about Hardwired is its financial shock system, whenever your character makes a big purchase, such as for example a prosthetic, they might get more financial stress, which can end up leading them into a crisis, where they might need to reach out to a friend to get a place to stay, or move back with their parents, or make shady deals with the mafia, and so on. Hardwired's mechanics are Narrative-first, meaning they exist to create interesting drama for characters, and that makes it a very fun system for just making cool stories

What's the setting (If any) like?: Hardwired takes place in the far future of 2020, on a giant space station city, where the rich prosper and the poor toil. Hardwired is really keen on the "boring dystopia" aspect, there's definitely interesting stuff! but players are assumed to be common laymen trying their best to get by, of course this doesn't mean their ADVENTURES have to be boring! a package delivery gig could end with dealing with the strange Dreamers, bizarre AI with weird powers, or an investigation on an anonymous street artist could end in inciting a riot against a local bank, and so on!

What's the tone?: Hardwired will try to crush your players, it is not a pleasant world, there's kindness everywhere, and good people to be found, but the world is overwhelmingly against you

Session length: 1-2 hours is realistic enough

Number of Players: 4-6 is the recommended amount by me!

Malleability: Hardwired's mechanics are kinda rooted in its setting, but a crafty GM could likely do something interesting with them, I've been working on a hack for my own cyberpunk setting, for example!

Resources: a Google Sheet is available, and that's honestly kinda all you need, its not a very complex system. There's two or so expansions, one of them includes a playable cat occupation!

This whole thing was spawned around the idea that Shyssa is one bad night away from an existential crisis; of who they are, what they are.

Dawntrail really didn't help with that at all. Like "we shut down all the Endless in Living Memory. Why have I been deigned to keep existing? What life is there for me here?" because Shyssa is, for all intents and purposes, an Endless. They were a living breathing person that had their entire soul shoved into an android, like Otis, but when they powered down the last time that soul moved on. Hey what’s up, it’s just about midnight, here’s some information on CompanDroids and Eddie under the cut.

HEADS UP! Some mature/NSFW subject matter

Broad scope:

-CompanDroids were manufactured by Ramirez Robotics 83 years ago.

-They were created to be companions and caretakers, making them strong, soft, reliable, and people pleasers.

-There is a model for each letter of the alphabet, 13 male models and 13 females, alternating. For example, Eddie is a model E, his female counterpart would be the model F. Each pair “matches”

-Each model is based on a different celebrity, from actors, to models, to TV show hosts. For example, Eddie’s face-sake was a Mexican heartthrob actor, Navarro Riviera, and model F was a Mexican Miss Universe contestant.

-There were different cosmetic changes available for a handful of models in the form of hair colors or styles, particularly for those based on actors, styled after their various roles.

-ComDro’s were available in “Standard” and “Deluxe,” Deluxe packages allowed for more functionality, like eating, drinking, smoking, and for a few select models, sex.

-The contracts for these celebrities were murky, and many didn’t realize the full scope of how the androids would function or be used.

-Ramirez Robotics went under 20 years after the release of the CompanDroids (63 years before current)

-CompanDroids are extremely rare, as they were already very expensive, and now vintage.

-CompanDroids, as they are now, are more or less integrated into society as independent people, and mostly seen as an unusual novelty, though the greater public tends to only remember more salacious details about their functionality.

-They remain one of the most high tech inventions of all time.

Looking in:

-ComDro’s have their power bank located at the top of their spine. They run on electricity, and need to charge themselves via a port located on the back of their neck. Eddie has had himself outfitted with a nuclear battery, and has spares.

-They can get drunk or high, internal sensors detect the chemical composition of various substances and adjust function accordingly.

-They have a simulated heartbeat in the form of a faint vibration in the chest.

-A diagnostic panel is located in the left forearm, which has a screen, small keyboard, a few ports, and their serial number.

-The visible seam lines on their bodies are cosmetic, there are many more seams for access that are flush and hard to see.

-Standard models can upgrade to Deluxe models with a kit.

-Certain “involuntary” bodily functions, like becoming intoxicated, sweating, blushing, or arousal, can be manually controlled, or turned off all together by the android themself.

Eddie himself:

-Eddie was a pre-order, specifically picked to look like Navarro Riviera’s character, Sheriff DeLeon, in a romantic drama western.

-Eddie was originally a standard CompanDroid, but worked for and paid for his own upgrade kit as a free bot.

-Eddie’s serial number is E-013, he named himself after how his number would have read as a deluxe edition, ED-013

-He painted his eyes black the night he was “let go,” but didn’t swap to LED light eyes until later

-CompanDroids have feeling in their internal mechanics, Eddie finds the sensation pleasurable and erotic, though is very selective about who can touch his internals in any context.

-To avoid any uncomfortable situations, he toggles his “arousal” routines off during repairs or maintenance, but prefers to feel all sensations naturally otherwise.

-Being an old computer, Eddie is a bit “off” in the software, he is twitchy and violent, but is loyal and can be a great caregiver and people pleaser to his friends.

-Eddie’s CPU being overloaded will cause his voice to hitch and stutter like a computer’s audio would, as well as his eye LEDs flickering slightly. This would happen in an extreme stress situation, downloading large files of information, but most often when he climaxes in bed.

-Eddie has a very skewed sense of age, as he doesn’t age at all. He tends to always think of people having the same age and capabilities as when he met them, like continuing to see Zeki as a naive 23 year old.

I wonder if android's battery can get out of order in a way that requires them to be constantly connected to the source of electricity to function (until the battery is replaced)

So they can function without being on charge for maybe a couple of seconds/minutes/maybe even a few hours until their battery dies.

Imagine a house with extension cords lying all around, long wires stretched on the floor, couple of places with identical chargers being plugged in, ready to be used to replace currently connected one.

That android asking whoever is around to step carefully not to trip on the wires.

Power outage is their nightmare.

If their battery can last them for a few hours they can move outside, sometimes, but they have to plan where they go and how long it'll take them to get there, they have to grab their charger with them everywhere, hoping to find a place to recharge. Maybe without having an option to replace the broken battery they can use some power banks as a temporary solution.

Must be annoying and stressful.

I have GOT to talk about this colonist partly because he's interesting in his own right and partly because the idea of him as a story inspiration is fascinating to me and I'm sure someone out there will enjoy the concept

it's a bit long but we can focus on text around here!

started a tribal colony randomized the xenotypes with the intention of going with all non-baseliners (I presume they'd been liberated from a base with growth vats as infants and raised by tribesman, and never knew anything other than tribal life) we got: an animusen (fox person from Alpha Genes), who started pregnant from her missing VRE hussar husband), a dirtmole, a highmate (expanded upon by Vanilla Races Expanded- Highmates), a genie (ditto from the Genies module), and an android (likewise). who I assume, at the time of Liberation, was a simple service android, probably running a growth facility alone (not the same one by relative ages, but a similar one) who would have had zero skills across the board but also zero needs basically just a machine for renewing the supplies in the vats and whatever menial task the unmanned facility would have needed

these androids, however, do something interesting they start out as blank, subservient service droids (without needs or demands, occasionally rebooting to empty their RAM, which I presume looks to his fellows as a brief seizure and then he's fine) but when exposed to a great deal of stress or excitement (which I assume will have happened patching up after a raid or in some other dire circumstance, judging by the result) they Awaken whereupon they have a bunch of randomized traits unlock, and they become, in a very real sense an Actual Person. capable of feelings, romance, growth, learning, and almost everything a biological person can!

It is at this point I presume that all that he WAS is wiped from his memory banks, and from there on, he is a tribal. An ordinary man of flesh and blood, or so he insists.

he is Raven, a skinny, elderly man, who is really anything but.

he is not elderly at all- in fact, he's a relatively recent model, and is simply styled as an old wise man, a trait I imagine he took on when deciding to lead this tribe.

by programming, he has several double passion excellent skills: Medical, Intellectual, and... Social.

He leads our cult of magic and administering healthcare to all (including our enemies, who we release from prison after raids when we've treated their wounds)

This is not as interesting as his traits, which are as follows.

Wimp: This trait means he will go down very easily with pain.

He does not feel pain according to his health tab, so I'm taking this as psychological.

Desensitized: Won't get upset after horrible shit happens, which I'm chalking up to the same.

Schizoid: Can't express himself until he's stressed to the point of absolute meltdown, which I am, again, chalking up to past experiences.

Cat person: SAME, BABE

but the last one... the LAST one is what really compelled me to share.

Blood Mage.

Blood Mages work by using their magic in ways that interact with blood.

This includes: cutting themselves and using the hemorrhage to fuel their power

causing blood that is spilled to ignite like fuel

forcing someone else to bleed and vaporizing THAT blood specifically into a healing mist for himself

surrounding others in a shield made of the magic charged by bleeding himself

causing others to violently haemmorhage

the ultimate power (which he does not know): calling down a Blood Moon, which summons demons and other nasties upon our enemies.

Raven is an android.

Androids do not have blood.

When cut, Raven, instead, lurks neutroamine. This is also what comes out when he cuts himself to fuel his magic.

This is an ultra-technologically advanced substance, usually used to make advanced medications or drugs. We can learn how to grow the flower petals we can extract it from- but the casket and equipment needed to actually infuse it into our android is ultratech, and is behind about six layers of advancement.

For tribals, which has a massive penalty on research past the stone age.

Neutroamine in an android DOES NOT replenish when lost. It must be manually replaced.

It also interacts strangely with his powers.

Bleeding himself DOES charge his blood magic

The spilled neutroamine CANNOT be used like blood for spells (it will not heal others and it will not ignite)

He CAN use the charged power to shield his loved ones

He CAN make others haemmorhage and utilize that blood per normal.

This essentially renders him an opportunistic back-line defender and medic, who can bleed himself to shield others, but is a disastrous power to use because it's essentially a permanent down when he runs out.

This does not stop him defending the tribe.

Or his wife.

Or his daughter.

Androids cannot have children.

Did you know that, when they're paired up with highmates, they can reproduce telepathically- and that this is the only circumstance in which offspring is possible?

Did you know that, when these babies are born, they are- after briefly initiating- adults?

I presume this contributes to his insistence that he is an Ordinary Man.

Look at him.

He has a tribe. A wife. A daughter. So precocious for her age.

And so it shall be, until he calls up his shield for us, and the raiders are gone, and he sputters and fails, run out of his strange blue blood

and lies motionless for years upon years

until we learn the ways of the men from the skies.
