I think pre-calc is gonna kill me

I had a math tutoring thing yesterday (as I do each Friday bc I missed 3 months of school so obviously I'm cramming all of that knowledge into my brain within a few weeks, but ANYWAYS) and my math teacher's kid was there. He's elementary aged and spent most of his time just vibing in the background/climbing on chairs and such.

Then, out of absolutely no where, we heard his squeaky little voice going "If Earth's core was gone, what would happen?". Cue the next 5-10 minutes being a very in depth conversation between my teacher, her son, and me about all the possible consequences. They were using big science-y words (none of which I remember, so don't ask) and really diving into the question while I mentally fumbled around, trying to remember even the most simple of space terms that had ever occupied the chaotic landscape of my mind.

The kid later also started doing the problems that I was working on (we were doing sequences) and while he's too young to understand exponents, he was multiplying large numbers without a calculator just to be included.

TLDR: my teacher's kid is smarter than me and made for some great conversations

Okay so I had a pre-calc test today

(I never thought I would touch pre-calc or any math beyond algebra…. but HERE I am)

Anyways

I did last minute studying basically and I did alright (there were 13 questions)

However I don’t like asymptotes and I don’t know how plot points for the life of me

And then I forgot how to solve for time on eulers number

Other than that I feel pretty good, but now I have my other class work to worry about and it’s lowkey -like very lowkey- stressing me out

heyyy a fellow math teacher! 🤝

I'm actually not a math teacher! I do special ed. I currently do most of the math inclusion support at the school, so between my actual classes and support from learning center/skill development hours and study hall hours, I'm doing everything from sub-separate Intro to Algebra all the way up to Pre-Calculus.

So my students know me as "the math lady" and they joke whenever they see me out of the math hallway that I've breached containment or "escaped [my] dungeon!" It's pretty funny!

I absolutely love working with the math department though! They are some of the best people in this entire school. Unsurprisingly, they're probably the department that the sped department is the closest with! They're so deeply passionate about public education and setting up the students for the best success possible after high school, and they really do their best to stand up against a lot of the silly top-down level grade inflation types of things happening within district admin right now! So yeah, can't hype these math ladies up enough! They go so above and beyond for the students, and it's unfortunate that they're some of the most underappreciated teachers cuz god damn these kids have nooooo clue how much this group of women care about them!

Tomorrow is my chemistry final and I’m, let’s just say, a nervous wreck. I’ve almost thrown up multiple times, I was forced to do breathing exercises by my roommate (love her), and I calculated molar mass of a compound incorrectly because I’ve been on campus doing chemistry for 12+ hours
