this is more of a silly ask haha but do the clan cats have like, cute nicknames for their friends/mates? we've had honeymouse and duckling from the matriarchs (very cute, i wonder if shadowclan uses tadpole) I've seen it here and there in some other rewrites with the most rememberable being "honeyheart" (which I think is adorable) so!! I was wondering if you guys had ever thought of any in passing! :] I think something like "bunnyface" would be equivalent to those really cutesy ones people groan at for a windclanner haha!

love your guys' worldbuilding, it brings out so many interesting or random questions most wouldn't normally think about!

Thank you kindly for liking our stuff! It's fun to worldbuild for this setting, and especially get questions that we didn't think about before to figure out even more details.

Nicknames occur all over the territories, but RiverClan is notorious for having the most of them - usually gently teasing and mostly affectionate. Their nicknames in particular are the ones you'd expect from such a constantly jokey Clan; things like Preciouspaw or Loudbelly or Totterfoot. The other Clans generally don't use them when referring to their owners, considering it a little too rude for a relative stranger to call them by, but RiverClan wouldn't take it personally even if a ThunderClanner were to call the right cat Kitface.

But those are just casual nicknames. Ones saved for kittens (or your own grown child) are more diminutive and compare the namee to something small and cute. "Tadpole", like you said, is one that occurs wherever one can find water (which is mostly RiverClan and ShadowClan, though a ThunderClan cat or two has used it in good rain seasons). "Ant" or "little ant" are, of course, for small cats, whether apprentice or kit, with chrii meaning "little changing cat", essentially their equivalent of a warm "kid". "Honeymouse" in particular is an heirloom of ThunderClan's matriarchs, passed down many generations.

Mates and partners don't have a real special nickname of their own. You have the classics, like "dear" and "love", but if there was a specific moniker once, it's been lost to time with the more extreme base urges. I'm sure there's some couple affectionate to the point of grossness that have come up with specific names for each other, but they're a rare sight.

As a final note, WindClan is the least nickname-oriented Clan of the four. Their pet names sound more like regular terms than titles of affection. RiverClan finds it absolutely hilarious that they'll call their own children "kit". "Kit". Like they're strangers. God. Weirdos.

It’s been a tough fortnight. I won’t lie. The animals keep on coming and I haven’t said NO yet. However I broke down last night. I opened our bank account on line and saw that we had $5.25 left. I couldn’t believe it.

We have a vet bill of over $2,400 due this week. The emotions just took over last night.

I mean we have saved close to 15 animals in the past week. Kittens that have been badly abused, dogs which had been starved and left to die. Each of these requires significant vet work to start their road to recovery.

It’s all worth it as we are saving lives - but the physical and emotional strain really hit last night.

Appearance:Trash is a Korat, bearing blue-gray fur with silver tips. He is shown to have a skinny, lean build due to being a stray cat trying to survive in the streets. He also had an ear notch and a scar underneath his right eye.

Stray:he wears a black tattered cloak, dark brown baggy pants with holes on the left side and patches on right side, black wrappings around his waist, knees and feet and black fingerless gloves.

Disguise:his dog disguise included a dog mascot head and a fake dog tail. For clothes, he wears a black jumpsuit with chest armor, armored gloves, leg protectors and armored boots. He also wears a utility belt that contains gadgets and weapons.

Personality: At first glance, Trash comes off as sarcastic, easily irritable, cynical, apathetic, and callous to his core with evident social awkwardness, which usually makes him unable to establish a connection with those around him. He appears to be a quiet and aloof loner who prefers to focus on his goals, survival, duties and missions over having fun and slacking off. He gives snarky answers to dodge questions, and it evolved into general sarcasm.

While Trash is very caustic of others and often refuses their help whenever he is in danger, it's clear he doesn't wish anyone inherently bad (most of the time) and simply tries to solve his problems the one way he can. It’s clear he's very lonely and the reason he joined the M-Bark is that he thought they were sapient animals like him and he has nowhere to go. A lot of his character flaws can be traced back to his dark past which gave him an existential crisis about how and why he is a cat who isn’t supposed to turn sapient like the dogs.

He is shown to be extremely secretive about his real identity as a cat and fears he might be kicked out and return to earth to be experimented on by humans if the dogs find out about his secret. This led to him growing to be very paranoid about what the dogs might do to him if his secret slipped out.

Trash appears to be averse to physical affection, only dishing it out himself on rare occasions, but seems to begrudgingly accept it from others.

Throughout the series, there are hints he's sometimes able to exhibit the more human and caring side of him, like establishing a genuine friendship with Garbage. He is the stealthy spy of the Pluto crew, as he is intelligent, logical, resourceful, and street smart.

Backstory: Trash was born in a cat cafe surrounded by cats and the sweet smell of coffee. Life was wonderful and peaceful for him. He plays with cat toys, spends time with his friends, has a lot of naps, gets fed and is treated kindly by humans. But the happiness didn’t last long. At night, one careless employee had left the stove turned on and the cat cafe was set on fire. Most of the cats(Including Trash) are lucky enough to escape out of the burning Cat Cafe. He sadly watched the Cat Cafe being destroyed as he ran with the surviving cats. He spent his days surviving in the streets with the cats and scavenging for food. At night when he is scavenging for food, his life changed forever when a mysterious scientist kidnapped him and put him in the cat crate. He and the captured animals are taken to the man’s lair where they get tested and experimented on for months in order to become “superior soldiers to the dogs”. Trash succeeded in escaping from the lab and tried to search for his fellow cats in the streets while hiding from the humans. Unfortunately, all the cats are scared off by his talking and walking like a human They ran off leaving Trash to become a lonely outcast among the cats. After a month of surviving in the streets and avoiding humans, Trash saw the news from the television shop. It was about a dog space force to save humanity. Trash decided to join the M-Bark because his newfound sapience makes him no longer fit in with the cats. But he needed a dog disguise first. He managed to find a clever dog disguise by scavenging stuff from the trash. He then breaks into the P.R.A.T.S base and steals one of the ships to fly to space. After a lot of searching throughout the galaxy, Trash later found the M-Bark ship and went in. He then blends in with dogs thanks to his disguise. He was going to join Venus but ended up joining Pluto instead.

Trivia:

1. His favorite hobby is taking a relaxing bubble bath while drinking milk tea. He sometimes watched internet videos or read manga.

2. His favorite food is tuna lasagna.

3. His room had a litter box, a scratching post, a few cat toys and a collection of books.

4. Before learning about the dogs going to space, He spent his days collecting and scavenging stuff in the trash cans.

5. Trash is the name he chose when he joined the M-Bark. He admitted he is not very creative at naming but he pretty much prefers “Trash” over his overly embarrassing real name.

6. His scar comes from one of the fights he had in the streets.

7. He named himself after the trash can he used to live in. Again, he is not very good at naming.

8. His fighting is similar to Nail from the 2017 animated short film, Alleycats.

9. He is afraid of fire and labs because it reminded him of his past. He is also afraid of hospitals because not only they give her bad vibes of the lab he was tested in but he does not want to risk the chance of someone finding out that he's physically a cat not a dog.

10. Secretly had a gay crush on his captain but stubbornly denied it.

Ok, I try to keep my tumblr pretty much entirely my art, but I wanted to warn any Seattle area people with pets against this place.  They aren't on Yelp to leave a bad review.  I did leave one on their facebook page, but I think they can delete that.  Anyways, this car was parked out in the direct sunlight in 90 degree weather for a while.  I didn't see the dog inside when I first parked, but when I got back 20 minutes later I noticed the dog locked in there.  This place is a DOG SITTING business and they had a dog locked in the car for over 20 minutes in horrible heat.  Open windows or not, that is NOT ok.  I was about to report them when the owner came back and drove away.

Foster Doggo Update:

Debbie did well in surgery, but due to concerns about the a lump on one of her teats -identified previously by her normal vet- as a ‘mammory mass’, they removed that and for this purpose are keeping her overnight for observation. [Although they asked the PreciousPaws liaison via phone for permission, before advising us of any changes; which we understand, but this person failed to contact us, who were waiting the full five hours to take her home again, so it was a surprise to note how confused the vets were. They thought we knew about the mass removal, and we had no idea at all as we’d quickly gone across to the shopping centre metres away].

The vet confirmed our suspicions that she had been used almost to death as a breed dog, they referred to her condition as ‘continuously pregnant’. She is only approximately five years old; its doubtful she has ever known her puppies for more than a few weeks, so that would be a huge factor in why she bonded to our youngest kitties so fast. Treats them like puppies, sometimes.

The man who did this needs to get trapped in a goddamn wasp nest for all eternity, and never allowed near another dog.

She is healthy and doing well, especially considering the trauma she has been through so the vets had no real additional concerns over her being spayed today. They advised she was doing well and coping well with the anaesthetic, which was a big concern.

Still, she is safe and watched over for now. 

She is currently asleep, wrapped up in her home-made pyjamas, (Parental Unit made them on day 1, bc she was so thin she had NO ability to produce bodyheat). Under a blanket, with one of her pillows and her ‘puppy’ (a puppy shaped pencil case I stuffed and gave to Debbie, for comfort). 

The new vets love her as much as we, and our other vets do. They’ll watch her like a hawk. 

She will be discharged, all going well, tomorrow afternoon.

Let’s Talk About: Adopting Animals

it’s a massive animal adoption weekend, and we’re all waiting to hear if our two little girls have garnered interest 

(bc if there is adoption interest, there’s a meet-and-greet/inspection process, so it’s not instantaneous and there’s follow-up so the animals are matched right and safe)

the massive event in brisbane’s been open for 2 hours and 5 dogs are already adopted. apparently last year ALL of Precious Paws’s dogs and puppies were adopted in two days, so... it’d be amazing.

there are a few dogs at the event (limited time so they can meet people but not get overwhelmed) but mostly the animal’s profiles are up, and they can talk to the Rescue Adoption Team staff about their circumstances and help find the right match)

it’ll be amazing to find them a furever family, and sad bc we love them so much, but as long as we find them the right people... and the new family is told I will physically manifest in their home to kick their asses should they ever mistreat these beautiful girls...

Love to keep them, so much, but even if i had the money to do so... the reality is that keeping them would mean we wouldn’t be able to take in another foster, which is usually a dog slated for euthanasia.

i honestly still cannot BELIEVE that someone would put our gentle Jilly (2yrs) or boistrous baby Gemini (8mths) in the pound for euthanasia. To the people who did so, go fuck yourselves... but also, thank you for giving us a chance to know them, save them, and not subject them to whatever kind of cunts you are.

and they’re not even close to the youngest that have been saved.

one of the foster carers was raising 11 puppies (sadly, two were very ill and nothing the vets did could save them) who were thrown into a pound.

one of the other puppies up for adoption is only just 8 weeks old!  imagine putting that in the pound??? wtf???

And all these little old dogs just dumped at the pound? They have loved you their ENTIRE LIFE, and you just throw them away bc they’re no longer cute, as energetic, might have an issue or two that means you have to put effort in...

Listen, assholes, if you’re not ready to care for an animal from puppy through to little elderly animal that may have a few accidents in the house? Don’t get one. Same for cats. If you can’t do desexing, vet trips, vaccinations, bathing, playtime, in-house accidents, chewed shoes, emergency vet trips, boarding kennels/catteries if you’re away (or an animal-sitter you trust), kitty litter/pooper scooping, the occasional hole in the yard you nearly die in, proper fences, toys + toys to replace the toys they destroy, the occasional ‘gift’ of a dead thing, a good collar (cat collars should have a band of elastic on them, so if they catch on something, the cat can get free, but not FULL elastic collars, as cats can get them trappe about their ribcages whilst sleeping), microchipping, good walks, scratching posts, worming, flea and tick treatments (not the fucking collars they cause chemical burns), being licked awake at arse-o’clock in the morning, and a million other little things... 

then don’t get a fucking animal.

they’re a little living being that has joined your family. not a gift, not a toy, not something you can just ‘get rid of’ when it no longer amuses you.

and there’s this awful fucking trend of people taking their older dogs to the pound, handing them over, then adopting a puppy. these people should be shot on sight, and yet... they do it. sometimes multiple times. and that’s why rescue agencies are desperate to find foster families with open spaces to save them.

And also, it must be mentioned that (like the puppy situation mentioned before) sometimes rescuing an animal is not the happy ending you would hope for. For example, a handful of dogs rescued recently, despite vaccination, passed away shortly afterwards from parvo or pre-existing issues. And, as heart-wrenchingly sad as that is, they were safe, cared for and loved until the end. The best possible vetrinary care was provided, and their foster families showered them in love.

Sometimes that’s all that can be done, realistically. 

But the majority of puppies and doggos (and cats, kittens, horses, other animals up for adoption) will go on to find their people. Will have a chance at life.

Yes, it can be expensive to save a rescue dog (most of the precious paws ones are $400-$450), but listen...

You’re paying for a few registration fees, but mostly, that money covers the rescue fees of the next dog down the line who needs saving (including desexing + microchipping). And so on, and so on. 

It’s literally a pay-it-forward that means you have found your furbaby, AND you’re saving someone else’s furchild, who they haven’t met yet.

The foster families get collars, leashes, beds, toys, food, etc. and they do a lot of the training (including toileting) and behavioural work (which may be calming animals down, dealing with trauma, teaching them how to feel safe, or curbing problematic issues like destructive manias). They also ascertain the animal’s personalities, so that the perfect home and family can be found for them. 

 But it’s the initial amount to get the animal from the shelter, have them desexed/microchipped, vaccinated and vet-checked, that is crucial to finding them a new home.That’s what your adoption fee covers. It might be one animal, it might be two; but it will always mean you have given another animal a CHANCE.

PreciousPaws follows up with furever families, and has a behavioural support team, if you have questions or concerns. But most importantly, should something go absolutely tits-up and the family not work out?

The animal has a Precious Paws ID, associated with their foster family, and they will go back to them. If something went wrong with one of our girls, they’d come right back to us, where they know us, and are safe/comfortable. There’s a whole support system set up from the moment the dogs in the pound are named as urgent, through to post-adoption safety.
