After doing my Christmas carol animation last year I decided to try doing more holiday themed animations. I've done a few in the past (Daylight Savings, Valentine's Day) and it's great to try apply my skills in a different way.
There's a lot of work in between that I didn't record, but I still wanted to show some of the process. I did a rough animation just to get the timing down then I used it as a guide for the final draft. Making a rough draft definitely helped to cut down on the total amount of time I spent working on this piece overall.
Drawing the background was the easiest part and it was a fun exercise since I don't usually draw backgrounds. I added the boil to the background in DaVinci Resolve using Fast Noise.
Thumbnail for an upcoming project I’m working on. This is an extremely rough concept I am mostly using to visualize the composition, palette, and overall arrangement. Thinking of incorporating halftones but they’re a bitch to figure out in photoshop. The actual poster will make it more obvious that’s Team Yell in the background, as well as other things. Once it’s done, I’m gonna turn it into a poster to sell in my Etsy~
I've been so busy I've hardly pasted anything! Busy with what? The Pokemon Illustration Contest for 2024! We're not allowed to post our final submissions anywhere, but these were some pieces for my process work.
BIDOOF WAS ON THIS YEAR'S ROSTER!!!
I was going to do all three entries (2 being Bidoof) but only had time to make 2. 1 Bidoof and 1 Toxtricity. So have some Bidoof WIPS and thumbs!!
Good news!! I realized I have an app on my phone that comes loaded with royalty free tunes (some of them really lovely?? Like a bunch are by Mark Mothersbaugh, including this one?!), so my downloaded process reels from instagram can be re-tune'd!
I'm queuing up a bunch of videos now from the last few weeks of making...stay tuned!
This is the first piece in my senior year ISP, the main topic being “monsters and modernity”.
“The work embodies the central theme of my series, the strained relationship between mankind and monstrosity in the modern world. There could be love or predation, it could be transactional or altruistic. The open-ended conclusion of the scene is in essence the point- the idea that when interacting with those on the outside of societal norms, the viewer is given the power to decide the outcome depending on their attitude and personal experience.”
