A process model I’ve been working on for my wetland valley site design on the south bank of Leeds, experimenting how people will use the space.
The model has really helped bring the space to life and show the distinct character and scale of the spaces within the design.
The perspective looking out over the stepping stones shows the depth of the valley and gives a sense of enclosure.
The filtered view through the trees shows a glimpse of the observation mound to make users want to go and explore.
As the university workshop is not open due to Covid19 i have had to improvise with the materials i could get hold of, using foam board, matchsticks and florist moss for the trees. Although its a basic model i feel it simplistic look works well to show the unique character and landform.

Reflection: Process Modeling and Analysis
This month was more enjoyable as many of the assignments allowed me to be creative in role play for my working company Bay Mills. The assignments push me to think outside of the box and be creative in proposing plans for Bay Mills. The assignments allowed me to gather ideas for future casino operations.
For example, with players cards you are able to put money, compensations, and personal information on them, using this knowledge, I proposed in my assignments to add web/application interoperability with a casino software(database) where players can add money onto their cards doing a simple transaction on web and applications making the process more efficient and faster. Players can receive push notifications or inbox on the app with advertisements, comps, promotional events etc., saving the casino marketing department a lot of money.
Implementing this would also allow for better and faster data collection thus improving decision-making with facts.  Overall, this class pushed me to use strategic and analytical thinking skills, which will help me in my future endeavors in the Business Intelligence career field.

Mastery Journal Reflection:  Month 8 (BIN620)
Wow! What a month! I believe this class was the most time-consuming course I’ve had thus far.
Full Sail University’s Process Modeling and Analysis (BIN620) course has exceeded my expectations. I’ve learned around twenty different modeling techniques related to processes and analyses. I have a new respect for the amount of information in the Business Intelligence realm. I feel that I’ve been improving my Microsoft Visio diagram and chart designing skills. Speaking of skills, a recurring assignment during this month’s course was to create (and update) our own business website. I’ve certainly become more handy with the Wix website over the past thirty days.
Looking back to the goals I originally set for this course last summer (Figure 1), I did not anticipate I would be investing 40+ hours per week into my current job. I was unable to perform a four-month review of my accumulated information, but I was able to find some time to invest into my Capstone project. I was unable to secure one freelance opportunity with my LLC, but I was able to receive a bonus at work by completing some BI analyses in my spare time.
I think it’s safe to say that I’ll be utilizing the information that I’ve learned this month in regards to models and simulations in the future. I’ve already begun implementing what I’ve learned into the work place and have definitely impressed my supervisor with the amount of business-related knowledge I’ve retained. I believe the future looks bright, both for my career as well as my entrepreneurial endeavors.
Thank you for your time.

                                      Process Modeling and Analysis
This month’s course was Process Modeling and Analysis and month 8 of 12 in the Full Sail Business Intelligence Masters Program with Dr. Shiaw. This months course was full throttle like all the others and lent great new insight in Operational Analysis.  We covered various media, case studies, white papers, and course readings to support our understanding and related application to our Capstone company project.  The materials provided, instruction given, and discussion response were well organized, interactive, and provided many new examples and strategies to look at for applying to our Capstone and professional life.
The first week of the course focused on developing a new website geared toward the Business Process Modeling and Analysis of our Capstone company and highlighted key course content which uncovered new strategies.  These strategies included Operational processes that when implemented effectively,  showed greater enhancements for the company and it’s goals for strategic cost reductions, increased sales, and greater competitive initiatives. Key concepts included Modeling and Simulation methods with PML analysis, Fuzzy Logic, Data Models, Monte Carlo, and corresponding terms.  You can find out more information regarding the website project here.    My Project website was focused on American Eagle Outfitters BPM and Operational Analysis for greater sales and process.
Week two and three continued with learning new terms, concepts, and BPM methods for building additional supporting web pages with our web project and associated company.  The course content for this week included BPM paradigms, Calibration, Feedback Effect, and Risk Modeling.  M & S methods included Discrete-Event concepts, System Dynamics, and Monte Carlo methods.  Week 3 terms and concepts included Decision Analysis, Optimization, Process Improvement, Quality Control, and Problem Structuring.
Finally, week four covered several human factor topics including agent systems, reasoning, rule based models, utility and sensitivity, neural networks, and Markov Chain.  Although there is a lot of material to cover each week in these courses; the fast pace and variety of mixed media and readings provides a challenging way to learn new material, process it, and then apply it to course requirements, and our Capstone project.  The new concepts also provide applicable relationships to my own professional understanding that I can use in the work place and other business related industry analysis.
Overall, this was a very good course with a variety of topics covered with good sources and supporting media.  Dr. Shiaw provided a variety of course content and learning objectives that were critical to enhancing our Capstone Project Milestones.  I have fallen behind on the Capstone Milestones and hope to catch up soon.  As far as my course milestones and goals; some were met and others were not.  I do find, just like industry and agile development, these milestones have changed periodically since when they were first set and are adapting to new requirements and objectives as I progress academically and professionally.  I am now looking forward to the next course in Data Visualization and the new tools and strategies for delivering new insights with good visuals that tell a compelling story for various stakeholders in the value chain.
Respectfully,
Kevin Ott

Process Modeling and Analysis

We began this course by opening the Model & Simulation (MS) Theory/Toolbox. MS is a dynamic system the designs and develop a business process infrastructure in various domains. Our instructor selected a great book that was able to support beginner to intermediate knowledge on the subject matter. We developed knowledge on the four phases of the M&S development Model, Code, Execute, and Analyze to the application of Monte Carlo Simulation, Discrete-Event Simulations and Dynamic Systems.
The course offered foundational knowledge on technical terms utilized in the business that enabled students to structure our models given the appropriate fidelity, validity, resolution and process specific scalability requirements to optimize our models.
Course discussions along with independent research yielded interesting information on human behavior modeling. During the course I was able to acquire knowledge outside my industry of choice (retail) and find out how one can model human behaviors found in the medical industry. Medical case studies researched offered in-depth analysis of seasoned pediatric nurses versus newly hired nurses and their unique ability to respond to newborn babies symptoms.  After completion of this discussion, I quickly developed an additional source of inspiration for BI that will lead me towards the successful completion of the BIMS program here at Full Sail University.
We’ve also learned about Recognition-Primed Decision Model and how to incorporate risk averse criteria by way of utility functions. Next, I learned how to develop additional considerations to take into account such as subjective expected utility (SEU), which uses both subjective probabilities about the uncertainty of an outcome and a decision maker’s propensity for risk for that outcome. SEU will help me in my future analysis because it will always remind me to ask myself if there any additional variables to consider before final recommendations are made.
