The book analyzes the "empathic turn" in artificial intelligence, highlighting how systems such as ChatGPT-4 are developing the ability to understand and respond to human emotions at surprising levels. The importance of giving a body to AI through robotics is explored, moving from simple automatons to sophisticated psychodroids. A central aspect of the book is dedicated to the role of "electronic mentors" and the programming of robots for the benefit of future generations. The author proposes an innovative pedagogical approach based on Socratic maieutics and Lev Vygotsky's socio-cultural theory of learning, to ensure that the interaction between psychodroids and children is pedagogically valid and constructive. "Electronic Mentors" also addresses ethical and psychological concerns related to the growing interaction between children and empathic robots, such as the development of relational skills and critical thinking. Possible technological solutions to promote polite behaviors towards AI are discussed.

Children will likely grow up with machines that, in many ways, will act as human adults have done for generations but with non-human sensitivity and intuition.(5) Growing up with intelligent robots will change our relationships with others and ourselves. Just as there is a gap today between "digital natives" and previous generations, a gap will emerge between "intelligent robot natives" and those who grew up before their appearance.

In the near future, our children could grow up with AI-Robot assistants who will simultaneously perform the roles of babysitter, tutor, counselor, and friend. This work contemplates the advent of humanoid assistants, which I have called psycodroids(6)- robots so advanced they seem to possess a mind (or a soul, if you prefer), embodying the pinnacle of programmed empathy. These entities will not only be able to impart knowledge and entertainment to our children but will do so with a previously unimaginable sensitivity, adapting their interaction methods in response to each child's peculiarities.(7)
