Phil Connors was trapped in the Groundhog Day timeloop for years (depending on who you ask, it could have been decades, centuries, or millennia), but I don't think he would have spent all that time in Punxsutawney. The blizzard didn't close the roads until the afternoon, so if he got up at the stroke of 6:00 AM and hightailed it out of town, I think he could have gotten out ahead of it. It's only like 2 hours from Punxsutawney back to Pittsburgh, so he could have spent as many nights as we wanted in his own bed. Hell, he could get halfway across the midwest in a full day; it's only 8 hours to Chicago.
Heading east, he could get to Philadelphia in 4 hours, New York in 5, Boston in 8. Heading south wouldn't be feasible with all that moisture coming up from the Gulf creating the blizzard that was supposed to track east and hit Altoona, but if he powered through it he could reach sunny Miami a little after midnight and spend the last 6 hours at a beach bar (February is when all the snowbirds come down, so he'd have plenty of company from up north)
I didn't even think about air travel! If he could find his way to an airport away from the blizzard, he could go anywhere in the country and spend a good chunk of time as far away from Punxsutawney as possible. He wouldn't have brought along his passport on a 2 hour sojourn for some small town fluffpiece, so he probably couldn't get out of the country unless he stopped back in Pittsburgh first or spent a few months learning how to forge documents (not that he'd be able to enjoy international travel much anyway, what with flight times gouging large chunks out of his 24 hours).
There's so much we didn't see. He lived who knows how many lifetimes stuck in the loop, so surely he must have done experiments to see how far he could get.
Theatre Review - Groundhog Day is as magical as ever...every time!
Did I mention I love Groundhog Day? 7 years since I first saw this show, here's my review of the current run. You have until 19th August to go!

For anyone who was reading this blog in 2016, you’ll perhaps remember that the show I absolutely adored that year was Groundhog Day and no one was more surprised than me. I wasn’t a huge fan of the film. Perhaps I was a bit too young when I first saw it, I don’t know, but it’s never been one I’ve returned to much and when it was announced that it was being turned in…
105.) My Groundhog Day sweater. One side has the groundhog with a shadow and the other side without. Whatever the groundhog sees that year, that’s what I wear on the front. And then I’m stuck wearing it every day for a long time thereafter (LOL). During the most recent Groundhog Day, I wore it on the non-shadow side because the groundhog did not see its shadow. #sambarsky #sambarskysweaters #sambarskyknitter #knit #knitting #knitter #art #artist #sweater #intarsia #handknit #groundhog #groundhogday #woodchuck #phil #punxsutawneyphil #punxsutawney #shadow #groundhogshadow (at Oregon Ridge Nature Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeOw1BmuBJq/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Listen, listen now! Dot Tawny Phil this February 2nd. The seer of seers was awakened from his hibernation at dawn. On Gobbler’s button, Phil looked up at the sky and then spoke in groundhogs and guided this Presidential Uncle to the correct scroll which reads I see the morning has brought the best of people. I see their bravery and their spirit. The time has come. I can feel it, the excitement, I…
Happy Groundhog Day! Apparently, we are expecting an early spring. After the boring fall and winter, I gotta say I am happy to hear. Have a fabulous weekend!
