Purple Sun Chapter 1
"It's the third body this fortnight, do you think more will show up anytime soon? why are all the bodies mummified? It's only been a few weeks since these people were laid to rest" said the reporter as she held her microphone extremely close to the officer's face.
The officer gave the woman a quick glare. "We believe that this is simply the work of a few body snatchers, who are trying to scare the town for their own political ideals. We will find and apprehend these people; we have our whole station working on th- The television suddenly cut off, stopping the interview prematurely.
"Ughh not this again, Marcus you shouldn't watch this," Scowled the grumpy man.
"Hey I was watching that Kyle," yelled Marcus in protest.
"Shut up you two, your father is sleeping," said the woman in a soft, but stern voice. The woman who was slender with long blonde hair, green eyes and an aged face always tried her best to control her boys.
"Sorry mom", groaned both Kyle and Marcus.
Kyle would always come to the table with nothing but underwear on, which made Marcus uncomfortable. His shaggy black hair would make him look like a hobo. "Remember to wear CLOTHES next time!", yelled Marcus.
"Oh, shut up", he replied back.
"I don't have an appetite anymore, thanks a lot!" Marcus sarcastically replied.
"Well, I'm going to school now, can't be late, see you later mom, Kyle", Marcus told them both in a quiet voice.
"Bye darling", replied his mum.
After a quick jog to school Marcus walked into his home group and met his best and only friend; Owen Tucker who was sitting near the front of the class.
Everyone wore the same uniform at school, so students would dye their hair and wear unique backpacks and such to stand out. But Owen would just wear the basic uniform, two sizes too big that is. Mix that with his sickly pale white skin, which made him look like the undead and People naturally stared, but Owen didn't care, he didn't care about anything.
"Hey," said Marcus, "Did you see the news this morning?"
"Yeah, I saw it all. It's crazy, I think there really is a vampire on the loose," said Owen.
"There's a vampire here in town, I'm sure of it," exclaimed Marcus.
One of the most popular kids in their grade, Alexa overheard Marcus and Owen's conversation. "You two really believe that those bodies are the work of a vampire?"
"Yeah, what about it?" replied Owen.
"It is ridiculous to assume that a vampire would be the culprit of these heinous crimes," she replied with a snotty attitude and confidence.
"Sorry", Owen replied in an ashamed tone.
"Well, it's what we believe anyway, you don't need to put us down because of that," said Marcus in an annoyed voice.
"Okay then, sorry," replied Alexa in an annoyed tone.
With the ringing of the bell, everyone dispersed for their respective classes.
The roaring sounds of the various machines created the feeling of vigilance that only woodwork could create. Marcus, Owen, and everyone else in class were hard at work creating their coffee tables, trying to beat the deadline.
But one student had already finished her table and a week early at that too, because of this Alexa was told to help other students finish theirs.
"Lucy can you see how the groove you chiselled won't fit into the base of the Table?" Alexa told a fellow classmate."
"Yeah, i see it," Replied Lucy.
"Well that is because the hole on the table's base is too small, so just make it bigger by about 3cm and it should fit," Alexa proudly told Lucy.
"Thank you so much! you're so helpful, I'll get on it right away!" Replied Lucy.
"Alexa, if you have time can you go gather 20 more 16mm pieces of wood, the class needs them," yelled the woodwork teacher Mr Davison with his booming voice, trying to overcome the noise of the machinery.
"I'm right on it," Alexa yelled back.
Alexa walked into the storage room for the class, also known as the bunker, because it was a former bunker for the school during the cold war. Over the decades the bunker became misused and forgotten until it was found and used as a storage room.
As Alexa was gathering the correct pieces, she heard something fall.
"Crap, what was that!"
It's probably just a rat," she told herself nervously.
The "Bunker" was always checked for rats before the start of every school day, but even so the room scared almost all the students. As Alexa was heading out, she felt a presence as if someone was down there with her.
Her arm suddenly cut open as if she scratched herself against a piece of wood, except she was standing in the middle of the bunker.
"I need to get out of here"
"Here's the wood Mr Davison," yelled Alexa.
"Thanks, just put it with the other pieces," Mr Davison yelled back over the machinery.
Back in the bunker a figure in the shadows licked blood from its fingers. "I nearly had her. She won't get away next time."
The bell rang signalling lunch, and everyone started to pack away their tables. "Finally, this stupid class is over," grumbled Marcus.
"Now we can get back to our club," Owen replied.
"Back to where we belong," said Marcus enthusiastically.
A spare unused storage room was transformed into a makeshift club by Marcus and Owen a few months prior. The club was filled with posters of monster movies and a world map hung upon the left wall of the room. There was a cupboard at the back of the room, behind a small table that contained books about monsters and conspiracy theories. It was a very strange club; you could even say it was a... supernatural club.
Owen opened the cupboard and pulled a book from the shelf, it was titled: "types and forms of vampires throughout history". Owen flipped through the book to get to a specific page.
"Here, fluid vampires: Fluid vampires suck all the fluid from the victim leaving them in a mummified-like state. They were reportedly spotted from the 10th to 20th centuries all across the globe. The creature’s weaknesses include sunlight and high-pitched noises which can stun and kill," Said Owen.
"Sounds like our vampire," Marcus replied.
"Exactly, we just need to find it, and kill it," Owen replied with excitement.
"Trouble is we don't know where it is. It could be anywhere," said Marcus in a disappointed voice.
"Well, we'll just have to wait until we can find some clues as to where it lives," replied Owen.
After a few minutes, more club members walked in and started to talk to Marcus and Owen about the strange things happening around the town.
Meanwhile, as Marcus and Owen were enjoying their club activities, Alexa was making her way to the usual spot her and her friends ate during lunch. It was a rather large, old Gumtree tree which provided much needed shade from the harsh summer sunlight.
As Alexa sat down to eat with her friends, she felt a wave of anxiety overcome her.
"Alexa did you hear that Ethan is now dating Lauren? Who would thought," said one of Alexa's friends.
But Alexa could not answer.
"Just a few more hours until school is finished", she thought to herself.
"Just a few more hours."
