Quarterly Writing Goals Jan-March Update!
Hey friends! Another quarter down, time to update what goals I did and didn't accomplish. If you don’t know how these go, I set a few goals to accomplish (All are more manageable pieces of my overarching 2022 goals which can be found here) every three months and at the end of those three months, I update this post to see what I did, (and more often) what I did not accomplish.
1. Finish beta read-ing a novel for one of my critique partners. It’s a YA fantasy and I have about 100 pages left!
Done! I finished this in January, the same week I posted the quaterly goals. Coincendentally, this author now has an agent for this book so that's super awesome!!! She had gone through betas and revisions months before I read and was actively querying already so it wasn't like my reading had anything to do with her success in acquiring an agent, I was reading it for funsies, but I'm still so proud of her!
2. Read my book’s club book of the month. So technically there will be 3 books in this singular goal since this is a quarterly goal but currently, our January pick is The Girls I’ve Been by Tess Sharpe.
Did this in January, hated the book haha. I didn't read our Feburary pick so this goal is partially fulfilled and our March read actually got moved to April.
3. Read Story Genius by Lisa Cron. It’s a craft book, I just like to brush up on some skills so might as well.
Done! I did this in February. So freaking helpful but the author goes on tangents, I recommend reading after page 100 because the first 100 pages are literally so irrelevant and full of personal anecdotes. This book is heavy on character development so if your story is character-driven, I highly recommend it. I usually get a complete sense of characters AFTER the first draft which is good but a pain because then I have to insert their voice more clearly in the second draft but with this book, I knew the motivations and how the characters impacted the plot right away.
4. Outline Heavy is the Crown. This is my YA historical fiction retelling about 2 twins who masquerade as one person–the princess’ guard–in order to kill the Queen and reclaim their rightful throne.
Done, did this after reading Story Genius in Feburary.
5. Draft Heavy is the Crown. That being said, I don’t think I’ll finish the draft in three months, I think I’ll finish it in April so that’d be next quarter but for now this goal is just requiring me to at least start on it.
I'm half laughing at this one lmao, did I think I could write consistently for three months straight lmaoo. But I consider this one completed, I wrote the first 10,000 words in feburary/march. It's currently April 2nd and I have 11,676 words.
I think this is the first month where all my goals have been accomplished (more or less) so yay! I think making them attainable has really helped. Thanks for reading, my quaterly goals for April-June are coming up soon!

Quarterly Goals October-December
I started setting quarterly goals a little over a year ago and now I’m way more productive than I ever was before! I have to hand it to @jennamoreci for introducing me to quarterly goals and this quarter I wanted to do something a bit different and share them! I actually wanted to share these on my YouTube channel but I don’t have the room in my schedule to post a video about my goals so i figured the next best thing would be a tumblr post. (Side note: if anyone wants to see a video version of this next quarter, drop a comment)
Before I share the goals that I set for myself this quarter let’s see how I did this past quarter. I do make quarterly goals for all aspects of my life so there was a total of 22 goals for me this quarter, but for the sake of time and since I’m sure post of you don’t give a shit about my other goals, I’m only going to list the writing/author platform ones. (But of my other goals I achieved 7/7 of them damn!) If in the future y’all wanna hear my other goals let me know!
Okay I’m rambling so the goals! Let’s go!
July-September Goals
1. Adjust my publishing/marketing plan as needed ✅
I added a bunch of marketing ideas/strategies and I’m super excited to be able to implement them in the future!
2. Complete 3 tasks from my pre-publication plan ❌
I actually don’t really remember what tasks I meant, but looking back on the plan there’s no way I completed 3 tasks XD
3. Finish my second round of betas ✅
Thanks so much to all my amazing betas! If you want to beta read for me, keep an eye out! My third round will be happening fairly soon 👀.
4.  Implement beta reader feedback ❌
I wasn’t sure if I was going to mark this as complete or not because I have implemented a fair amount of beta feedback, but since I structured this editing round a lot different than I thought I was going to, this goal honestly wasn’t really applicable anymore. But since I haven’t officially made my way through all the criticism I received from my betas, I’m counting this as a fail.
5. Recruit betas for round 3 ❌
I debated to recruit my newsletter subs early in Septembers newsletter, but it felt a bit premature so this is a fail XD. Round 3 will be happening soon tho! (And newsletter subs will get first dibs of applications hehe)
6. Start my 3rd round of betas ❌
I think this is a given fail considering my last goal XD
7. Win campnanowrimo❌
I may make a whole post/video about this, but I don’t think I’ll be doing camp/nano anymore because July campnano really showed me how much it doesn’t work with my writing process XD
8. Implement CP feedback ❌
To be fair, I haven’t gotten feedback from one of my CP’s yet, so I literally couldn’t complete this one lol
9.  Post as scheduled on YouTube ✅
I think this may be the first quarter I’ve achieved this goal? Honestly I’m very proud of myself for achieving this one XD
10.  Prep videos early ✅
Preparing my content for YT early has by far been the best thing I’ve ever done to make sure that my content is consistent. If you’re not prepping your posts in advance for social media, I’d highly recommend for you to do so!
11. YT engagement goal ✅
Thank you so much to everyone who’s been checking out my YouTube channel this quarter! Y’all are the best <3
12. YT sub count goal ❌
I’m honestly not that surprised. This was a very ambitious goal tbh.
13. IG follower count goal ✅
Thank you so much to everyone following me on Instagram!
14. TW follower count goal ❌
I wasn’t very active on twitter this quarter, so again this isn’t a huge surprise that it didn’t work out for me XD
15.  Send out 3 newsletters ✅
I absolutely love making my newsletters! Make sure to subscribe if you haven’t already. My newsletters typically go out the last Tuesday of the month.
                                                          . . .
That means I achieved 14/22 goals! I still haven’t really decided what I consider as winning a quarter - I know most people consider achieving half their goals as a win, but I’m not sure where I fall yet. I guess I can say that I’ve made a lot of progress in all areas of my life this quarter despite this quarter being super hectic, so we’ll count it as a win for now LOL.
I will say that for this next quarter I’ve made a point to be a lot more realistic with my goals since, as we’ve already covered, I was a wee bit ambitious with my goals for this last quarter XD
Tumblr media
Now onto this quarters goals! Let’s see all the work I’ve got in store for myself LOL
October-December Goals
1. Adjust publishing/marketing plan as needed
2. Complete 1 task from pre-pub plan
3. Do research on the publishing industry
I’m not looking forward to this but it must be done sigh
4. Do research on marketing
I’m very excited for this one tho
5. Finish this round of edits
I’m currently on part 3/14 so I hope I can make this happen LOL
6. Start on prep work for round 3 betas
I wanted to finish it this quarter, but I’m cutting myself some slack here since a lot of the prep work I have to do requires me to be done with the editing process.
7. Recruit betas for round 3
👀
8. Keep up with my critiques
9. Post as scheduled on YT
10. Prepare videos early
11. Participate in scheduled lives
Exciting things are coming!!!
12. YT subscriber/engagement goal
Maybe, uh, subscribe and help me reach this one? 👉👈
13. IG follower count goal
14. Twitter follower count Goal
I swear I’ll be more active on Twitter this quarter XD
15. Send 3 newsletters
Another one I’m excited for!
16. Update my members page with quarterly goodies
I also have 8 personal/academic goals bringing us a total of 24 goals for this quarter! Will I succeed? Will I fail? Tune in next Quarter to find out! If you make Quarterly goals, let me know what yours are!!!
If you enjoyed this post make sure to follow me and keep an eye out for my October goals post coming your way soon!!!

I didn't complete my quarterly goals. Not even close.
Complete outline and start/finish first draft of chapter 1.
I'm not as disappointed as I thought I would be.
I managed to glide through the first half in a couple of months and assumed the second half would be the same.
I was was incorrect.
It occured to be somewhere in mid November that it was probably not going to happen.
The first half of my story was a lot more fleshed out, after all I had technically written 20,000 words of it before. (Let's call that an in depth outline and not a rushed, ego fuelled, I don't need to outline, failed first draft attempt. Yes? Good.)
But it's turned into so much more than I had imagined and I'm proud of that.
Proud that I finally had the nerve to get it all down and think about it more concisely.
Proud that my characters are fuller, the plot is smoother and foreshadowing, mirroring and arcs are all starting to come together.
So here's to 2018 and my next quarterly goal. Finishing my outline and getting the first chapter done.
Wish me luck.

2020 Goals
Rules: Write 3 goals for 2020 (and why!) and then tag 10 people. I was tagged by myself (via @ao3commentoftheday) :P
I actually have 5 goals but I’ll put the interesting 3 haha
1. Finish the first draft of my book/novella by early/mid Feb (which I’m on track to do bc math, whut), I have yet to add an editing timeline and that’s a big ???
2. Submit works for publication (x5), so either 5 works or one really well edited one 5 times. I have a few short stories I’d love to see out there but one might need to be rewritten as a script and I haven’t tried that before (challenge!).
3. Do a handstand by my next birthday! (Nov) Bc having no goal besides “exercise more” hasn’t worked in the last however many years, and a handstand would be fucking awesome, so got some basic stretches and core exercises to get myself started, plus some yoga at some point. Still gotta break that down quaterly or whatnot but-- eee?
I tag @joanhotson @purple-possibilities @wa-ni @lady-of-shadows if you want to participate, and anyone else who wants to share :)

[Music] I Pray to You - The Rescued
Tumblr media
“I Pray to You,” the third single release by The Rescued, a worship collective started by songwriter/musician James Jones, is set to drop at Christian AC and Worship-formatted radio outlets today. “I Pray to You” follows the No. 1 single, “Fill My Cup.” Written by Jones and produced by Kevin Clark, the new single is the debut release under The Rescued Entertainment Group Label. Previous radio releases have been chart toppers, with “Fill My Cup” claiming the No. 1 spot at CRC Weekly, No. 3 at CRC Monthly and No. 6 at CRC Quaterly. The first single release, “iPraise,” hit No. 2 on CRC Weekly, No. 4 on CRC Monthly and No. 10 on CRC Quarterly. A collection of music, “The Rescued Unplugged Live,” was released in 2021 across multiple platforms and is available to purchase at betherescued.com/music. “The production quality of this album is amazing,” says lead vocalist James Jones. Kevin Clark, a producer out of St. Louis, mixed and mastered the audio and Blue Ocean Media Group produced the video. The Rescued is the result of Jones gathering St. Louis area worship leaders and musicians to work together to create an all-acoustic set of 25 original songs. The collective selected their seven favorites and created full band, radio versions that became the first, self-titled EP. “Our goal is to bring light to the world and show God’s love through the songs he has poured into us.” Jones says.”John 1:5 says, ‘The Light shines in the darkness. The darkness has never been able to put out the Light.” Because the team wanted to share its message with the surrounding community, The Rescued began playing at local churches and venues, including Church at the Bar, a local hot-spot for libations and worship. Church at the Bar was a good fit for The Rescued’s mission of reaching new Christians through music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUZpbNLP-ic “Human nature leads us to want to be part of something that is bigger than ourselves,” Jones says.”Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, ‘Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.’ “The Rescued was not meant for us as musicians to have an outlet to write and play music. It was meant for the people of the community to be part of the experience of the salvation story,” he says. “At the end of the day, that’s the only thing that matters, to be rescued.” For more information about The Rescued, check out BeTheRescued.com, follow the group on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Scott Oldford drops some wisdom - Scaling a 7-Figure Business in 2020?
Scaling a 7-Figure Business in 2020? - First appeared on Facebook.
How to Scale from $100,000 to $1,000,000 in 12 Months (the 29 steps) **
It's easier to build a $1,000,000 business, then it is to build a $100,000 business.
I'm talking really easy. A $100,000 business is a job. A $1,000,000 at least has some level of impact.
Here's the step-by-step process of scaling the business. Note: You can likely change these steps and I'm no expert or guru on scaling, I've just done it enough time in this format that has worked for me.
1. Get clear about exactly what you deliver, take a look at your products and services, then understand the profit margin of those products and services if you had to hire someone else to deliver it. Keep the highest percentage, kill the rest (for now).
2. Get clear on the audience that you are actually serving, your first $100K, typically is built around delivering to anyone who will purchase, now, it's time to get very specific so people know exactly who you are helping and how you help them.
3. Don't get to set on a "vision" or a "mission", while it's important to understand your product and audience, you may have to pivot, which means that PERSONALLY you can have your vision, but your business should be flexible at this stage, until you prove your specific model, or it will keep you up at night, at many times and deter you away from momentum.
4. Eliminate all other opportunities, once you know you want to scale, I'm talking every other business idea. I remember being at a dinner with Zach Obront once, he's Tucker Max's business partner at Book In A Box and what he said to me, was one of the most impactful pieces of advice I ever got from anyone.
"Scott, the compound effect of focus is so high that when you're starting out, you must be obsessed with taking ALL ideas, concepts and opportunities and throwing them out".
This level of focus is required for MASSIVE momentum and to reduce friction.
5. Understand why someone will actually buy from you... is it because of YOU as an Entrepreneur because you have a certain "magic" or is it because of the message and process you bring someone through.
If it's because of YOUR magic, this is a roadblock. Remember, the sale process is a simple one...
a). Find someone's pain b). Find someone's vision c). Find the gap d). Show the commitment for a new reality
You can do this on the phone... via a webinar... via a sales page, however, you must take YOURSELF out of the sale process and build a process that someone besides YOU can do.
6. Understand what your zone of genius is, this means taking a look at EVERYTHING you do in your business and simply taking out everything that you SUCK at and what you DON'T enjoy doing.
In my business, I'm good at... - Keeping Money in the Bank - Ideas, Concepts and Strategy - Content Creation - Partnerships and New Channels - Mediating Attention
That means everything else... well, I shouldn't be doing it.
Now, this doesn't mean you'll be able to let go of all of it. However, you need to know your superpowers and what to let go of.
7. Take a look at where you want to grow, if it's $1M, take a look at how many customers you need, in order to get that many customers, how many sale conversations are required? Based on that how many leads at what % of purchasing is needed?
Then, what does your team need to look like in order to deliver that and to be able to run this?
Remember, the idea is to create leverage as much as possible, so if it can be leveraged, make sure you take it off your plate so you can get to #6
8. What type of life do you want? A question that most people ignore when growing a business, based on this, it will largely change either your PROFIT MARGIN or your RATE OF GROWTH.
If you want fast growth, but more free time, your profit margin will suffer.
If you want fast growth, but a higher profit margin, your rate (time) of growth will be lower.
==== Now you have a lot of your planning and high-level strategy developed... now it's on to the next part... which is implementation. ====
In order to grow from $100K/yr to $1M/yr, it's a 10x increase, however, it doesn't take 10x the work.
9. Figure out which piece your weak on... Marketing / Sales OR Operations/Finance/Management and then hire your #2...
This is critical... Your either good at one of the two, most aren't good at both.
If you are good at Marketing/Sales and have no one for the Operations/Finance, you'll get yourself into a hot mess.
If you are good at Operations, but not Marketing/Sales, you'll have no customers to buy your stuff.
10. Plan and Implement a Marketing Funnel that can turn strangers into customers, base it on the first part of this strategy, thinking about your product, your sale cycle/conversation, audience and base it on the numbers you need to reach $1M, if you don't know your finances, you'll be screwed.
I'd suggest the SSF Method / Our LeadCraft Program for this 😉
11. Build an audience/community besides just leads... if this means a Facebook Group, do it... Linkedin Group, a Meetup Group... I don't care HOW you do it.
However, if you don't build a business that has a community, your screwed...
Every single lead coming through the door should have the chance to both become a customer and part of your community.
By doing this, you are future-proofing yourself...
12. Be a "Big" Fish in a Small Pond... This is actually really important, because if you don't do it, your message won't get signal in the noise.
It's important that for those inside your "community" and those that you attract that you're omnipresent... that you are in front of them always.
You want make them feel like you are the ONLY girl in the world for them 😉.
13. Hire the RIGHT people at the RIGHT time...
14. Invest in Relationships and Knowledge In 2016, I spent over $250K on Masterminds and finding people that I wanted to know better.
The result? 2017 has been amazing due to it. Invest HEAVILY in Relationships and Knowledge, expect NOTHING in return, but realize you will get a LOT in return.
15. Get a guide up the Mountain If it wasn't for a few key people in my life that has acted like mentors and coaches, I would never have any sort of momentum.
Remember... that business isn't this unique game... we typically all have the same problems, just with our own perspective.
If you can buy access to solving a problem that would take you 4 weeks, that someone else can solve in 5 minutes...
VALUE that 5 minutes and look at the money and time you'll save... that you'll never get back.
16. Double Down on What Actually Works When you see something working... DOUBLE down and DOUBLE down quickly. Most opportunities go away quickly for new growth... if you see Facebook Ads working... or JV relationships, DOUBLE DOWN and do it quickly so you can secure that revenue for yourself.
17. Innovate and Iterate QUICKLY Every single time you do something... do it quickly and don't make it perfect, this is required for momentum.
Innovate and iterate quickly... always change SOMETHING when your doing ANYTHING so you can compare.
There are two levels of feedback a). Data b). Gut
And remember that #B is just as important as data... You have an amazing ability to look at data, but sometimes before data, you have to make the call of what iterations make sense for your business... this is in your marketing, your finance, in your sales... everything.
18. Pay Attention and DIVE into the DEEP END Every 30 days, write down EXACTLY WHERE you are... and all the risks and things that are going right and wrong.
Then, look at what you can eliminate in the next 30 days... wherever there are blind spots, share with your team and make sure you are working towards moving away from those blind spots.
19. Drink your Own Kool-Aid (but don't swim in it) It's important that you believe in yourself... so drink your own kool-aid... however, don't become arrogant enough to swim in it.
Your doing great stuff, but so is everyone else. Stay level headed, regardless of how much #winning you do... someone else will always win more than you.
Respect that.
20. Mitigate your Risk (of Lead Generation) Don't rely on one source of lead generation... use multiple sources... partners, Facebook, YouTube, Organic, PR...
Get one working first, then keep expanding... this is SUPER important, as if you don't do it, it is the SINGLE biggest risk in your business.
21. Mitigate your Risk of Revenue This means, that you should have a couple different sources of revenue.
You want to be able to ensure that if something didn't "work", you wouldn't be screwed.
22. Do a profit IPO At some point during your growth pattern, I suggest doing some level of an IPO... this means more than anything, doing a "launch" or something that allows you to generate 3-4 months of cashflow in less than 2 weeks.
This could be launching a new product to your audience... It could be have a partner launch... It could be trading some time for money, for example...
However, getting your bank account having 90 days of cash in it... which typically doesn't happen in fast-growth is CRITICAL so you can make LONG-TERM choices.
23. Use 90-Day Plans I write myself a letter every 90 days... further, I write down everything I want to accomplish... then I put it on my wall broken down on 30 day intervals.
This allows me to easily know if I'm getting closer (or further away) from where I want to go.
Review this daily, weekly, monthly and then quaterly. Daily for 5 minutes. Weekly for 30 Monthly for an Hour Quarterly for a Day.
24. Stack "Short-Term" and "Long-Term" together There are short-term choices and long-term one's
Short-term keeps money in the bank Long-term makes you have a sustainable business
In this area, you'll need to do both... This means, you may need to host weekly live webinars while still working on your Evergreen marketing system to ensure you hit your revenue goals.
That's OKAY. You can stack them here and it's OKAY. You need cash.
25. Growth SUCKS Cash I wish I got to keep all the money we generated... I might actually be rich.
High-Growth SUCKS cash... however, it also allows you very quickly to get leverage and get to a place where you can become very very profitable...
This means, that while growing, you shouldn't change your lifestyle and keep your expenses as LOW as possible, until you have true sustainability.
26. Remember where you've come from It's difficult to remember our past... we always want more... remember that EGO is never satisfied.
So, as much as possible and at least every 90 days, have you and your team write down EVERYTHING you've accomplished.
Take sometime to reflect and have perspective... pat yourself on the back. You've done a good job!
27. Keep taking things off your plate... keep delegating... keep getting to that "zone of genius". Keep assessing what you do on a weekly basis and get to the place of pure genius.
28. Get a GOOD financial company that just doesn't do "tax management", make sure you get someone who is MANAGING your finances and helping you grow the business.
Warren Buffet says the #1 skill you need in business? Accounting
Most people forget this... If you don't know your finances, you don't have a business. Your basing your life on dumb luck...
If you make your choices based on what is in your bank account, your screwing yourself.
Fly by numbers, not by sight.
29. Work Hard... Work Smart... Stay Focused As a last note... work hard, but work smart... further, stay focused. Be yourself, be comfortable in your own skin, don't try to impress others, just do this because it's important to have freedom, impact and to have money in your life.
Don't follow to many people, like me, simply look in the mirror. You ARE ENOUGH. And I believe in you.
If you enjoy this... Can you like/comment... if you REALLY love it... give it a share 🙂
Much ❤ Enjoy life at 7-figures... It's fun :)

01.10.18 Relationships
My day starts with a 7:30 breakfast with the CEO of the hospital, followed by an orientation for new hires. In the afternoon, I attended a meeting with the members of the pshyciatric unit at the hospital. Overall, my goals for today are to write more notes and speak up more! So much happens in one day, I know if I enclude more minor details, I would really enhance the subject matter of my blog.
Tumblr media
Quaterly, the CEO organizes a  breakfast for any of the staff to give them updates on the hospital’s condition, further changes that will be occurring in the hospital, and to listen to any concerns that members of the staff members wish to speak. I realized how important communication between management really was. To have the staff voice concers about their specific branch and to ask questions about the future of the hospital is vital to the organization. Having a  team that is transparent with one another ensures that their sucess grows in all aspects of the medical center, wheather it be in education or pharmacy. The CEO asks questions and further reflects qualities of a leader by furthering the understanding of the hospitals functionality and the sevices so they are not blindisdes by it later.
Tumblr media
Business is not just about what is lucrative. Today showed me the importance of building healthy relationships with the people that work alond side you. I learned that not only do you invest in services and programs for the betterment of the hospital, but you invest in good-minded people who leave patients walk away having the best expereice they possibly could. That in itself is a good business to be in.

Quarterly Writing Goals
I feel like the moment I stopped doing these is when I stopped writing consistently haha so we're bringing them back. If you don't know how these go, I set a few goals to accomplish (All are more manageable pieces of my overarching 2022 goals which can be found here) every three months and at the end of those three months, I update this post to see what I did, (and more often) what I did not accomplish.
1. Finish beta read-ing a novel for one of my critique partners. It's a YA fantasy and I have about 100 pages left!
2. Read my book's club book of the month. So technically there will be 3 books in this singular goal since this is a quarterly goal but currently, our January pick is The Girls I've Been by Tess Sharpe.
3. Read Story Genius by Lisa Cron. It's a craft book, I just like to brush up on some skills so might as well.
4. Outline Heavy is the Crown. This is my YA historical fiction retelling about 2 twins who masquerade as one person--the princess' guard--in order to kill the Queen and reclaim their rightful throne.
5. Draft Heavy is the Crown. That being said, I don't think I'll finish the draft in three months, I think I'll finish it in April so that'd be next quarter but for now this goal is just requiring me to at least start on it.
So future Alex, best of luck. If you guys are working on anything, let me know! Have a great day!!!

Quarterly Goals
Y’all. I haven’t done these since March so um, we’re just going to start over, I guess?? Let’s get into it!
1. Finish the second draft of the Island. My last update has more detail about that.
2. Read two books. I’m reading two self publish books right now so yeah. I’m planning on doing a masterlist/mini review on every book I read this year (My goal is to read 10 books this year so after these two, I’ll have 8 books under my belt).
3. Post Prep-tober and Nano material. I’m not planning to do Nanowrimo this year but I will be attempting at least two short stories if I finish the second draft of the Island on them.
4. Update my WIP page. Some of my links aren’t working so I just need to tweak it.
5. Hit 500 followers. I’m three followers away from this goal so please follow my blog, I’d really appreciate it! I’ll make one of those memes powerpoints for Anthropogene since I rarely talk about it if we hit that goal.
That’s it! During Thanksgiving break I’ll be studying for my finals and college just keeps getting more difficult so I’m trying not to bite off more than I can chew. Thanks for reading!
