Hey! Just so you know. My partner and I are long distance and met on tumblr; one of the things we share is a love of Rothkos. When we met, we went and saw one (surprise!) at a local museum and it was. Humbling and incredible and so lovely. I've sent her so many of your posts, and been sent many in return. Just wanted to say your images have not only inspired conversation and bonding and delight, but also helped to create connections and romance and love. I threw in a donation, but this blog has been a part of something I value so much more, and the beauty and thoughts provoked by your images and posts and scans are marvelous. Thank you for what you do, and I appreciate it immensely.

Well first of all just thank you it's so sweet, your story and also what you wrote.

Not to overshare but I'm someone who is not always doing great either in the practical sense of living or in the psychological sense of having lots of lifelong emotional issues. I always thought it was kind of narcissistic for people to say that something they were doing is made worth it by the people who appreciate it. After all, in this case, I'm not painting the pictures, so I tend to feel like it's just the work is out there and I put some effort into cataloging and trying to bring it forth in the best way I can but, I'm not, as they say, curing cancer.

However today, I had difficulty rousing myself out of bed to pick a painting and a quote and get the things around on social media and it sometimes feels like a chore because it's every single day. And the rest of my life is not going that well and it is not out of wishing for sympathy or anything of that nature, but just to provide context that I have to say that your act of writing to me really was touching.

One of the things I always tell the naysayers about Rothko, is that whatever they think about what they consider to be the garbage of modern art, people find it and they like it and they were not made to or told to or educated to that end. They felt something and every time you discover something that makes you feel, wherever you found it, I think it's a good thing for the world.

And especially now when the planet is pushing an anti-intellectual movement ,a lot of it motivated by greed and the desire to get credit and money from doing creative things without actually putting anything of yourself into them, Rothko seems special to me as many artists do. He really did dedicate his life to something, which maybe not everybody will like but obviously it does move a lot of people.

So not to prattle on, but really thank you much. You taking the time to tell me your story was very generous and I appreciate it.

Do you think Aaron seems really off like not acting like himself ? I feel like John is controlling of him . What are your predictions for Aaron and Robert ?

Yes and no. I’ve continued following Aaron’s storyline post-Robert’s exit, and I think Aaron has changed a lot since losing Robert. Not only did he lose his husband, he also lost Liv, both of which just about destroyed him. It wasn’t that long ago that he was taking out his grief on basically the entire village and was a complete disaster. He’s only recently pulled himself together.

I do think Aaron isn’t quite himself with John, compared to how he was with Robert or even before Robert. Because he’s had such a horrible couple of years—and, really, a horrible majority of his life—he wants something safe and quiet. Or at least he thinks he wants that. I don’t think he has the capacity to handle one more blow, so he’s settled with John, who seems safe. John has been pretty closed off with Aaron, and is now showing himself to be massively insecure, and I think Aaron tiptoes around him a bit. Aaron always voiced his opinions with Robert, whereas he’s keeping pretty quiet with John, especially lately. The pub scene from Friday’s episode was a good example of that—his face wasn’t showing that he agreed with John, but he didn’t contradict him or make any effort to defend Robert, besides saying he knows how rough prison can be. I think he’s trying to make his marriage to John work, even if his heart is not fully in it, and so he’s slowly giving up parts of his personality or silencing himself to appease John.

Also (and I’m sorry this is such a long response lol) a huge piece of John and Aaron’s story that has been left out of most of the conversations lately is Anthony’s death. From Aaron’s point of view, John stepped up and protected him during that whole situation. John handled things when Aaron couldn’t. Also, Aaron’s been a bit emotionally raw lately from being reminded of everything with Gordon, and John’s been there for that, too. I think that plays into why Aaron is acting the way he is and why he’s clinging to John.

As for my predictions for Robert and Aaron, I think they’re in for a bumpy road ahead but will, of course, end up back together eventually. I go back and forth on whether I think they’re going to actually have an affair, but I do think Aaron’s not going to be able to stay away. Robert is not mentally well, and I’m not sure jumping right into a relationship with Aaron would be the best thing for him right now. And Aaron is going to be horrified when he finds out what John’s been doing. I think it will be a while before they are truly back together. They need to heal as individuals first.
