Emptied my queue in preparation for the quickfire event! ♡

I have been able to rest a little, so the plan is to publish a prompt list in a little while, then the event, and hopefully have enough interest for it to fill my queue for a couple of days. My record on such an event is 94 writings on a shorter term, so I am lowkey hoping to break 100 this round? 😇 i am actually off for the week with not too many plans, so it should definitely be possible.

ooh here are a couple of quickfire bullets I can add to this

Modern AU Orph is a bit late to the nonbinary realization game — Similar to canon, he plays into the androgyny afforded to him by being a musician, but by the time he and Eury break up he's still operating under the assumption of being cis. Might be the choir boy in him that's holding him back. Bless his heart. Befriending s/i Min ends up opening up a menagerie of doors for him as he learns more about their own modus operandi of being nonbinary, picking up on a lot of nuances that have him like...hey...actually I think I feel uncannily similar to that...and they're like yeah I could tell since the day we met lol but I didn't wanna put you on the spot

Music sharing is obviously a huge part of their relationship! Joint playlist curation, the Passing of the Aux to allow each other to introduce new sounds into the mix, concert dates and quiet downtime at home tg where he'll practice playing near them, tagging along with him in the event of him feeling comfy enough to start performing in venues again... 👉👈😌

There's a Lot of overlap between their tastes, but in terms of music that Min listens to that Orph can't fucking Stand lmao: Metalcore, a lot of offshoots of dnb, musicals.....those are the worst offenders for him. I don't imagine there's very much that he listens to that they'd hate in turn, but he's a little Shit who will intentionally queue up stuff he knows they hate even if he doesn't even like it. Hits em with the gay people ukulele music and gets a pillow thrown at him

Of all the vehicles he could own, they Never would've expected him to be a truck guy. They're from the south everybody and their fucking grandma drives a truck back home, and yet the first time he offers to ferry em around because they can't fucking drive, they just stand there and stare at his ride for a good long while like "are you serious". And he's just flustered like "what, I — musicians have a lot of Stuff to drive around!"

Lyre playing gets replaced with guitar, naturally, but he's put in a lot of time studying traditional Mediterranean instruments and could still just as easily play a lyre in a modern context. He's prolly just a decently popular social media musician rather than like, a full on Famous artist — Though he probably Could have been, if not for the fact that he prefers a humble and low-key kind of life

Modern AU shenanigans take place under your usual "Greek mythology retelling where everybody's a mortal normie" circumstances; no gods no nymphs just bog standard humans that conveniently don't have last names otherwise Zag'd be out here like yeah you know my dad, fuckin Mr. Hades Johnson. Setting is about as nondescript and unimportant as can be and all that matters is that the current state of the world doesn't suck like it does in truth kek

God where do I fuckin start. Picture Calliope as a Greek immigrant landing in the UK, linking up with n marrying what can assumedly be an Oeagrus stand-in as the pastor of a pentecostal church, because I'm deeply enamored with the idea of Orph growing up in an environment where he's a good ol choir boy with a bg in soul and r&b. Not invested in the church of it all (bc is it really a project of mine if there's not at least some hint of religious disillusionment) but loves to sing n play his lil instruments, loves doin his thing, and then suddenly when he's like in his tweens, Bam — his scrungly self stumbles upon new wave and post-punk and it's So joever for him, like he's uncovered smthn he should've never found. This leads to him branching off to research even more of what kinds of funky music he can listen to...maybe even sing......oh man,,.....

I imagine his dad wouldn't have been the most enthused to see him undergo these sonic and aesthetic changes (well who's gonna sing for mass now tf), but Calliope's so cool so chill she's absolutely Thrilled to see her boy finding new ways to express his love of music, just as long as he doesn't forget his roots 🫵 Early to mid teens prolly has him experimenting with his sound and his look/identity more, joining and dropping a band or two until he starts gaining some solo traction around his late teens. Find a way to squeeze in Apollo as a music mentor figure here and Dio as the perpetually sloshed owner of a venue that becomes one of Orph's most frequented haunts to perform at

Shoves off to live in the States (throw a dart at a map n choose what city from there, it doesn't matter which one but it's prolly at least Walkable lmao) around his early 20s, his music blows up, meets Eury about this time (is she a Georgia born gyal or a New York type of woman.....gosh I can't decide......) and they go good n steady for a hot minute — Their relationship prolly implodes around 27 for him, leaving him to languish around for a handful of years or so in depressed solitude and musical limbo until he meets.......MEEEE

Min (the self-insert variant)

Copypaste my pertinent info here lol. Weird little goth from Central Texas etc etc etc but this Min at least gets to escape to whatever location they later meet up with Orph in. Did their time in retail hell as a bookseller before leaving to study funeral service/mortuary science (the author's barely disguised Personal Cope™) while dabbling in their gay little digital art endeavors on the side

Per the source material, they too underwent a lengthy relationship that met its end and led to them spending an extended time just doing their own thing — At some point, they find themself stopping by random funeral homes in hopes that anybody would have an interest in taking them in as an assistant, and it just so happens that a cool and collected funeral director by the name of Than finds his interest piqued. Thus starts their tenure at his establishment, where they do a little bit of everything as needed, be it hands-on work on the embalming front or taking on a more prominent role in the making of arrangements for clients. Other figures of note at the funeral home include Charon, Hermes on occasion, and Than's pesky "it's complicated" nepo baby friend, Zag (Hades has luxury hotel or bank mogul vibes). He doesn't even work there. He just drops by to be a nuisance

(We Just Don't Know what Hypnos is up to these days. he could be there to handle the front line client interactions and clerical work of the funeral home.....but that might not be the wisest decision.)

It's a chance meeting between the two of them at the bookstore that they used to work at that kicks everything off — They're not even familiar with his music, so it's a refreshing change of pace on the behalf of Orph to not have to deal with somebody wanting to jump his depressed ass just because they're a fan. They maintain a loyal friendship for a good while despite the fact that there's Clearly a lil extra smthn-smthn being felt between them, and progressively it all unfolds rather sweetly until it gets to the point where Min is like "listen.....homie.....let's be so real here for a second. we're basically dating without actually dating. What Are We"

Not trimming posts (unless you're mobile). Vague posting. A lot of negative ooc posts. The favouritism towards male muses over female muses. Etc.

fluff,  angst,  or  smut:  All are fine by me! I usually will not smut with people immediately, but on rare occasions, if the chemistry is present, I indulge my muses.

Turns out I suck at trying to proofread for someone and do my own creative output stuff  at the same time. Highlights of 2020

Finally finishing my You x Idol drabble game.

Writing some series ideas that I really thought were going to be hard (Forsaken, To Be Continued, 10 Dates) and being satisfied with how they turned out

Doing some groups series, like Band Sessions and MonX Hospital, and creating an entire world.

Collaborations with my writer friends. I honestly love writing with my friends! 

Writing Sungjin as a cop in To Be Continued. He wasn’t even in the original draft notes for the series but became someone so deeply important to the storyline! I feel like each year, Sungjin’s characters keep coming out on top (last year, it was his story Existence in the Spiritual Connection world that came for my soul)

Destined hitting 2k notes and still being the most popular story and series on my blog.

Things I wish had gone differently / things I wasn’t happy about

The gaps in my writing schedule - whilst I needed to take those moments, looking back now, I wish I could have remained more consistent.

The lack of variety - in some areas, I did improve but looking back on everything, it was pretty obvious I stuck to like three groups for most of the year. Of course, this isn’t entirely bad as I discovered deeper connections with some of these characters, but it did mean I didn’t get as much variety as I hoped to. 

The endless hate for Forsaken and Bloodstone - two stories that I was really excited to share. I know I need to let it go, but I really don’t get the big fuss around it all. 

Personal pressure - I was so busy trying to improve as a writer over and over that at times I forgot to enjoy the journey as I travelled along it.

Frightful October - that whole thing was so unfortunate and it still breaks me to think of all the discarded plans @this-song-thats-only-for-you​ and I had, only to not give the segment it’s final hurrah as we hoped to. This was the last year we wanted to do it as we were going to try something new for 2021, so it’s really bittersweet knowing how much of a fail October was. 

2021 Goals

To complete at least ten series

To either write the ideas that have been sitting in my ideas file for sometime, or to let them go... holding onto them for a rainy day so to speak isn’t going to work

Always aiming for variety but also accepting that there are some groups I just naturally have an affinity towards and that’s okay

To try and write more details into my worlds. This way, I’ll be adding more depth and word count - which isn’t a bad thing to be practicing if I wish to attempt writing longer pieces for eventual novel preparation

To collab with some other people than I usually do. I’m not very brave at approaching others but I want to give it a try! (please if you want to collab with me, feel free to message me haha)

I dunno why but it makes most sense to me to put Mayday6 in May, so it’s kind of a goal to make that happen then lol

Figure if I’m going to open another prompt list up for requests or offer sporadic requests - either way, bring in some fresh ideas from my followers at some point

To be uncaring about genres I choose. If I want to write four royal au stories in a row, then so be it (I have a lot of royal and regency au ideas, someone please make me stop dreaming about being a princess or wearing pretty dresses lmfao)

Whilst scheduling to me is important, not pressuring myself to stick to the same format of writing each week/month. I’m not burned out, but I am bored of the same thing time and time again. 

Admittedly, this one is one I can’t not ask of myself - make a pile of writing so I’m ahead again. I like the feeling of having stories to fall back on.. but also allowing newer stories to jump the queue if I’m most excited for them.

Phew! What a year I’ve had! There’s been some amazing moments not captured in this list, and amazing people who I’m forever grateful for. Thank you for supporting me! 

May 2021 bring some really awesome personal writer growth and fun for this writing blog!!

HOW I RUN MY BLOG!!

SPEED.

This seriously varies, but I’m someone who loves my queue, but I also like my queue to be full. I find I do replies more easily when I know I can post them in a queue and it takes so long for each one to post. I’m on here every day pretty much, because I find RP clears my head for work related stuff (as work is either writing lines or learning lines, so coming here and playing at being a character with no pressure and writing with no pressure really helps with things. I can’t explain it) but I get stressed if there’s a build up of replies to do, but I don’t like it if the blog is empty, so I feel best when I have a few replies to do but a nice steady queue running, so that means speed wise I’m pretty quick with replies, but it can be anything from a few days to a month that you’ll see your reply posted if that makes sense. 

REPLIES.

I love any kind of thread. I love plotted and I love unplotted. I love long and I love short. I love fun and I love dramatic, sad or happy. I love all types of threads, all I care about is that you have a passion for writing and we’re both putting fun energy into what we’re writing together and enjoying it, and exploring all sorts of different things with our muses with things canon never allowed us.

STARTERS.

I do starter calls when I’m feeling extra muse or if I feel my queue is running low. But most usually starters happen from chatting with people and we get a plot bunny in our heads that we just want to get ahead with. Starters do vary length, but if I want to do quickfire stuff I prefer canon dialogue lines because they’re easy to do and can get some great threads out of them. 

INBOX.

I don’t get that many so I’m not overwhelmed by these, but I don’t rush them either. I reblog a prompt because I’m eager to do them, so I usually do inbox stuff quickly, but if I don’t have the muse for a question or I don’t quite know what to answer, I don’t feel the need to rush it. I just save them and get to them when I do. 

SELECTIVITY.

I’m both selective and not? I’m open to most muses and blogs, generally speaking, but I do practise selectivity. If you are a blog who mostly reblogs photos and never writes, I’m not going to follow you, if you don’t cut your posts and have a lot of thousand one-line reply posts, I’m not going to follow you. But generally speaking, based on who I interact with is about writing style, I like our styles to mesh well. Some I just don’t enjoy the style of writing, so I know I won’t enjoy writing replies, so I see no point in following. If I follow you, I want to write with you. 

WISHLIST.

I have constantly random plot bunnies for Lilith, both big and small, but I always love anything where Lilith is actually treated with respect, or thrown into situations where she is forced to embrace sides of herself she tries to ignore (like her maternal side, or her teacherly side, or her fun side etc), I also like when she gets to have dynamics with non-CAOS Lucifers or enters other mythologies, I enjoy crossovers, I love her making actual friends, romantic stuff, Goddess stuff.... basically anything is on the wishlist. 

HONEST NOTE.

I am never bothered by how long people take with replies, I don’t care if it’s months, I don’t care if you come back after a year hiatus or whatever, threads are always there to continue if you want, and we can always start new things. Absence and speed is not an issue at all. This is a hobby, we’re here to have fun. BUT, if I’ve written you several starters and you’ve never replied to any of them, I won’t write you starters anymore if you like a starter call. This was a rule I had on my Catelyn blog, because it did happen a lot within the GOT fandom, though it’s not happened here yet. It’s just I do put a lot of effort into starters and if you don’t like a starter or can’t get muse for it, tell me and I’ll do something new. But writing five different starters that are never answered will make me not want to write you any at all. Because as I said, we’re here for fun, and writing starters again and again that never get even one reply isn’t fun for me.

My queue took more calls by 2pm than we took ALL of Tuesday, and it's been mostly just me covering it since 3:30 since my fellow lead has to be off phone to coordinate a bunch of stuff for an event we have coming up, and the one helper I have keeps needing to take regular calls because they've been holding for too long

also there's a lunch thief who stole my leftover panda express, which pissed me off and motivated me to order a pizza for my dinner tonight (which is now stored in a different fridge that most people don't use, so hopefully safe from the thief)

People keep stopping by trying to ask me questions but I get interrupted by my phone ringing, and I had to tape together a tape dispenser that got dropped and was leaking the little plastic pellets that are supposed to weigh down the base

plus Andrea keeps quickfire asking me if I can do this that and the other thing this weekend (because today's her Friday) and while I should have the time to do them, I also need to scribble myself a note every time she asks. And Aron says he has an extra keyboard at his desk which he doesn't need, so I said I'd try to go over and extract it from the cord corraller thing so we can free it from his desk. but of course I haven't had time to do that since I'm the only one taking calls for my queue right now

It was a cold winter night, but you barely registered it. The little snowflakes falling from the sky being stopped by the makeshift shelter, the cold kept away by the fire at your feet. You basked in the warmth, a content smile on your face, and you intertwined your fingers with Sesshomaru’s.

He merely looks at your hands, a small nod the only sign of appreciation for this gesture. You leaned in close and he shifted, allowing you to take in even more of his warmth. You felt so nice, so safe.

It took a while to be this close, this intimate with the demon, and it had taken you so many stories, gestures, confessions, and more to get a place in his heart. But now that you’ve gotten to this place, you knew you’d never let it go. Not that he’d let you. The moment Sesshomaru started to experience the same feelings for you, these human feelings that he’d swore he’d never had, it was already to late for him to turn back. He’d give you anything and everything he could. He’d do anything in his power to protect you. But he’d never say it out loud. At least, not for now.

But he would keep you warm. Let you come a little closer. He would hold your hand.

Hi! I'm Martha, I'm 16 and from the UK, which means I'm currently in the seemingly infinite summer holiday between year 11 and college. So, I decided to start ticking things off my to do list and made a booklr account- welcome!

I'm taking the IB in college, so in September expect much queue reliance because I'm definitely not going to have much free time...

I'm a Slytherin/Thunderbird combo (the only personality test you need)

My favourite book(s) of all time have to be the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. I'll probably make a post about it at some point but those books just spoke to me on a spiritual level

I'm currently reading The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood and I'm going to tackle the Lord of the Rings when I go on holiday in a week

It's EGX 2019 weekend! Over the next few days we'll be bringing you quickfire impressions of some of the highlights from the show floor here at London's ExCel centre. You'll find them all here - and if there's anything out there you want to bring to our attention let us know!

We've known about Hollow Knight's upcoming sequel, Silksong, since the beginning of this year, when Team Cherry announced what was originally designed to be an expansion for the base game was just too big, and so would be made into a standalone title. We haven't had much info on it since. No wonder then the queue I had to stand in to get my hands on the demo at EGX was so long (and there was also only one console with the demo available! Criminal considering how brilliant it is).

The demo is only short, but even that amount of time was enough to understand why Silksong is being made into a standalone game. The first playable zone I landed in seemed like the very first level, allowing me to play Hornet with her base abilities as she traversed through Moss Grotto. It's an area reminiscent of Greenpath - and I say reminiscent purely due to the overgrown natural feel of it. It's enough to remind the player this is indeed a Hollow Knight game, but brings its own unique atmosphere at the same time.

Activity Update: Feb / Mar / Apr 2021

TLDR; Hiatus until April. (Details below.)

// My seasonal work is still very busy at present. Normally it would start winding down around now, but unfortunately due to a colleague just a couple days ago breaking her foot, the rest of us will be picking up her hours. (There’s not enough time to train a new person in the role, nor would it be worth it for just one month.) So my busy hours are extending out another month.

// April I’m expecting to see an evening out and reduction in hours as I was originally expecting.  My current work should wrap up in April-May, slightly prior to which I’ll also be job-hunting for the winter.

// Very much looking to returning though and getting back into writing with y’all!  ❤ The muse has been an absolute bitch as I’m sure you can imagine. 😂

// On Queue: My post queue is set to drop one post a day. Generally these are aesthetics. This is to pace things out so I can keep up with everything and not get overwhelmed if I do get the chance to do some writing.
