if you like free music about planning heists, being roped into a murder investigation by a mysterious stranger, or space revolutionaries singing about a hopeful future—
A. wow, that is a very specific thing to enjoy. i hope you like other stuff as well, or else i'd imagine you are frequently disappointed.
B. good news, instead of putting my songs inspired by Stars, Hide Your Fires up on bandcamp, i've decided to release the mini EP for free, right here on tumblr. is this a smart decision? uh, remains to be seen!
TRACK LIST
The Con is On! (lyrics) (stream or download)
Waltz of "You've Got a Backup Plan, Right?" (lyrics) (stream or download)
Voyria Anthem (lyrics) (stream or download)
PS. if you are yourself musically inclined and interested in covering "Waltz of 'You've Got a Backup Plan, Right?'" Quirkbooks is running a cover contest where you can win cool prizes, such as an annotated copy of the book, and a nifty enamel pin.

I love this Frida Kahlo art portrait now hanging in my home. She is such an inspiration to me. In fact, I made a Frida finger puppet for my book Crafting With Feminism published by @QuirkBooks & @PenguinRandomHouse. 💕🌸🌺 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cem5AAPLFXU/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Q: What fandom are you most involved in right now?. I'm currently deep into Marvel thanks to Hawkeye airing currently and a little movie called Spiderman released on Friday. I have tickets to see it Thursday night and I CANNOT WAIT. LITERALLY. I'm so scared of spoilers for the next few days, I had to get a ticket to see it ASAP!. The Fangirl's Guide To The Universe is such a cute and wholesome book if you're looking to join a new fandom or new to fandoms in general! It gives you tips on how to find your community and join in. Pretty much any fandom I've found is welcoming to those who are new. And remember, everyone is new to a fandom at one point in time!. This book also gives you lingo that fans use. I knew most of it, but I think this is a great book to give to a younger fan who is just learning the wonders the internet and real world can hold for them in terms of fandom. Looking to attend your first con? This book has some tips for that too. I've been waiting for the perfect moment to take this photo, and #AnimeNYC in my Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6 cosplay seemed like the perfect time. (#Baymax also helped.) AnimeNYC was a lot of fun, I just love cons in general so I'm happy I was able to attend back in November. Thanks to @quirkbooks for this gifted copy!. #arcchristmas21 - Naughty vs. Nice #MyFandomObsessionsDec21 - Blue books #booknookbingo - Cover Love #AlltheBooksDec21 - Cup of cheer #QuirkBooks #AFangirlsGuideToTheUniverse #sammaggs #thefangirlsguidetothegalaxy #fangirl #fandom #HoneyLemon #Cosplay #HoneyLemonCosplay #BigHero6 #BigHero6Cosplay #boostingya #fangirlbook (at Javits Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXeO-xTruuB/?utm_medium=tumblr

This illustrated collection of humorous essays and fun extras makes the case for one of our most iconic celebrities, from Bill and Ted to John Wick. For an actor who’s been in so many mega-hits and equally mega misses, it can be tough to track Keanu Reeves's accomplishments. But true fans know that Keanu is so much more than his Bill and Ted persona, both onscreen and off. During his long career—over 30 years, though you wouldn’t know it from his immortal looks—he has constantly subverted Hollywood stereotypes and expectations. He's the type to start his own publishing company, reread Hamlet, write a grown-up children’s book, photobomb people’s weddings, eat lunch alone in the park while looking very sad, and give away his salary to the film crew. For Your Consideration: Keanu Reeves examines the ways in which Keanu strives to be kind and excellent in work and in life. The authors also explore various Internet conspiracies about his age, help you identify which Sad Keanu meme you are, give you the Keanu and Winona Ryder fanfic your heart desires, and much, much more.

When your week is totally horrid, a surprise package from your favorites at @quirkbooks will perk you right up! Thanks so much!!! . . • Coming September 17, 2019! • . . • Meet the women writers who defied convention to craft some of literature's strangest tales, from Frankenstein to The Haunting of Hill House and beyond. Frankenstein was just the beginning: horror stories and other weird fiction wouldn't exist without the women who created it. From Gothic ghost stories to psychological horror to science fiction, women have been primary architects of speculative literature of all sorts. And their own life stories are as intriguing as their fiction. Everyone knows about Mary Shelley, creator of Frankenstein, who was rumored to keep her late husband's heart in her desk drawer. But have you heard of Margaret "Mad Madge" Cavendish, who wrote a science-fiction epic 150 years earlier (and liked to wear topless gowns to the theater)? If you know the astounding work of Shirley Jackson, whose novel The Haunting of Hill House was reinvented as a Netflix series, then try the psychological hauntings of Violet Paget, who was openly involved in long-term romantic relationships with women in the Victorian era. You'll meet celebrated icons ( Ann Radcliffe, V. C. Andrews), forgotten wordsmiths ( Eli Colter, Ruby Jean Jensen), and today's vanguard ( Helen Oyeyemi). Curated reading lists point you to their most spine-chilling tales. Part biography, part reader's guide, the engaging write-ups and detailed reading lists will introduce you to more than a hundred authors and over two hundred of their mysterious and spooky novels, novellas, and stories. . . #monstershewrote #lisakröger #melanieranderson #quirkbooks #womeninhorror #horrorfiction #frighteningfiction #mementomori #horrorbooks #horrorhound #horrorgirl #coverlove #gothic #gothicliterature #cupofstars #frankenstein #maryshelley #shirleyjackson #bookish #bookstagram #booknerdigans #libraryofinstagram #readordie #booklover #epicreads #bookdragon #booknerd #readersofinstagram #readersgonnaread #bookreviewer #currentlyreading #bookcommunity #booktography https://www.instagram.com/p/B1RetE5gpt0/?igshid=1dgzautxqzisb

(Gifted) Girl Squads by Sam Maggs and illustrated by Jenn Woodall . So excited to read this one! There are a lot of books out there on inspirational women, but this one has a twist, and looks at female friendships! When I first got it I couldn’t actually think of that many before I opened the book (I know - shame on me!), but I’ve already had a look inside and am especially interested in reading about lady pirates and the first female medical students in the UK! . Thank you to @quirkbooks for sending me a copy! . . . #femalefriendship #girlsquads #sammaggs #jennwoodall #quirkbooks #bookcover #arc #nonfiction #bookstagram #booknerd #inspirationalwomen #inspirational #beautifulbooks #colorfulbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/Bp5U8O4HB_l/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=wvhiwmdb4se3

Onto my next read! ‘The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires’ by @gradyhendrix 📖🩸 Don’t let the pretty cover fool you, this book is TERRIFYING !!!
Hendrix is undoubtably my favorite contemporary adult horror author. His books ‘My Best Friend’s Exorcism’, ‘We Sold Our Souls’, and ‘Paperbacks From Hell’ are AWESOME! As well as writing horror, he is also incredibly comedic in his work. His books are equally epic as they are disturbing! ‘The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires’ follows Patricia, a stereotypical southern suburban housewife during the summer of 1993. Although Patricia may seem to be your picture-perfect mother, caring wife, and friendly neighbor, she is deeply unhappy with her life. She joins a close-knit book club for women who fancy true crime and cult books. As she draws closer to this eccentric group of women, her life is met with an unsettling and grotesque series of events. Think *witnessing a delusional, elderly neighbor eating a dead raccoon, then attacking you in an alley, biting off and swallowing your ear* hint, hint I’m off to a quick start with this book and am utterly OBSESSED ✨ Highly recommend books by Grady Hendrix! #gradyhendrix #thesouthernbookclubsguidetoslayingvampires #mybestfriendsexorcism #paperbacksfromhell #wesoldoursouls #quirkbooks #bookstagram #book #bookblogger #bookrecommendations #bookstagrammer #booklove #bookstagramacademy #bookstagramnewbie #bookaddict #bookreview #bookblogger #bookphotography #bookblogger #bookaddicted #bookgram #bookworm https://www.instagram.com/p/CYuTG3bL0tC/?utm_medium=tumblr

review - whisper down the lane
Tumblr media
4/5 Stars Pub Date: Apr 6, 2021 2021 Goodreads Goal: 92/150
It's 1984 and Sean and his mother are restarting their lives in a new town. His mom works so hard and Sean just wants to make her happy. He doesn't want to tell her that he's being bullied at school.
When she spots the bruises on his arms, she ask if his teacher Mr. Woodhouse was responsible. Mr. Woodhouse is his favourite teacher, but she looks so sad, and he knows she'll be happy if he says the right thing, so he says yes.
After all, this is just another game they're playing. A story they are creating together. But the story is getting out of his control. As parent talks to parent and more and more children come forward, everything twists. Sean knows he should say something, that this isn't fun anymore, but so many people are playing along now. He's only five years old.
It's 2013 and Richard is a middle school art teacher. He's built a good life. He has a wife and a stepson and a job that he loves, but events from his past are starting to repeat themselves. A rabbit is butchered, and a student in his class comes forward with accusations that sound very familiar. Accusations about a boy named Sean.
Steeped with references to the Satanic Panic of the 80s, this novel is a claustrophobic and sympathetic look at the actions that turned into the McMartin preschool trials. A fascinating case if you're not familiar.
My only issue with the story was some pop culture references that didn't work with the timeline, but overall that's kind of small beans.

We’ve loved seeing all the recently shared posts for Bites of Terror. It’s crazy to think that we are coming up on almost a year for its release. Bites of Terror came out right when the pandemic hit and event cancellations were up in the air. Getting the word out felt a bit challenging given that we heavily rely on shows. Thank you to everyone who wrote reviews and shared the book on social. Making Bites of Terror was a dream come to for our horror-loving hearts. Releasing a book without getting that face to face interaction with readers feels very different but with technology you’ve helped keep that flame burning. Reviews and shares have a HUGE impact on books. If your reading a book right now that you adore, be sure to share it. It’s the best way to support authors and keep their work alive. ❤️❤️❤️ #graphicnovel #graphicnovels #mixedmedia #horror #horroranthology #foodhumor #foodhorror #foodie #bookstagram #quirkbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CLXj_arpsF2/?igshid=16rhle0ukjz4c
