last year i had the fun opportunity to draw for the quodo valentines minifest, and while I didn't draw anything this year, here are some leftover quodos I'd done then to get a better hang of drawing the pair.

i'd planned to make the last two into a comic about quark getting stood up on a date (with a happy ending), but i,,,didn't finish, so now it's just. sad quark hrs. whoops! (sorry quark)

Quodo recs for the last ~8 months

I got really behind on Quodo works for the last eight months or so. But now that I'm finally caught up, I thought I would post a rec list featuring my favorite fanworks that have been posted since around December 2022 or so. These are just my personal favorites -- feel free to add more.

Fic

see you later (740 words) by kirajockstrap: An episode-centric ficlet about Odo's thoughts when confronted with the fact that Quark might actually die in the Terok Nor flashback episode, 2x08 "Necessary Evil."

Doctor's Orders (1,904 words) by WeaverofWords: After a routine appointment with Quark, Bashir ends up diagnosing a very clueless Odo with an obsession with Quark that he might want to act on. A funny fic I like because of how clueless Odo is. Poor Dr. Bashir!

Gotta Look Good (5,191 words - Mature) by WeaverofWords. Quark ropes Odo into helping him take a good profile pic for a dating website. Odo checks out Quark's profile page and is a bit horrified by Quark's dating strategy and decides something needs to be done about it. Again, another fic I love because of how clueless Odo is (but he still cares about Quark a lot).

Holosuite Malfunction (9,537 words) by cool_ha_ha. There's a holosuite malfunction and Odo and Quark are trapped in a program (you know how it goes). I enjoyed this one because of the cheesy bodice-ripper vibes of the program Odo and Quark get stuck in, the sexual tension between Quark and Odo and a hologram version of Odo, and Quark and Odo struggling to articulate their feelings for each other.

A Mile in Another Man's Bucket (48,810 words) by Superfloxes: Roleswap AU. A bit of a double roleswap going on here: Quark and Odo end up in a universe where Quark is the DS9 security chief and Odo is a no-good bartender/petty criminal. The result is that they end up having to do the other person's job for a few days. Simple right? Well, maybe they'll end up understanding each other a bit better after they do that. Along the way, you also get a few glimpses of what the show might have been like if Odo and Quark were swapped.

what's the problem? I don't know (well, maybe I'm in love) (WIP - 2,797 words - Mature) by Khoshekh42. This one's a WIP but I'm enjoying it a lot so far. Quark and solid!Odo end up having a drunk one-night stand and then end up kind of avoiding each other because they're not sure how to deal with that kind of situation. Gotta love the pining!

Not quite Quodo but I enjoyed them so I'll rec them anyway:

Lost in Translation (Patching the UT) (18,939 words) by sayler_antimony. This is mostly gen worldbuilding about quirks of the languages of various Star Trek races, but there's a bit of an outsider POV look at various pairings, including Odo/Quark (in chapters 3, 5, and 12). But the whole thing is very worth reading for a DS9 fan!

Benefits of Acquaintance (3,481 words - Explicit) by synthehol_king. This is a Garak/Quark PWP, but there are undertones of Garak->Bashir and Quark->Odo pining to it. Fun characterization of Garak and Quark and how they might interact during sex.

Peace Negotiations (10,505 words - Explicit) by StopTalkingAtMe. This is a Quark/Brunt fic but there is just a hint of Quark's attraction to Odo. Basically, Quark and Brunt are holed up in a Risa vacation home after an auction of rare artifacts goes south. They end up playing out some of the other's sexual fantasies. Plotty and fun!

1. Three Ships: Since I'm going to keep everything securely within the realm of Star Trek for the sake of maintaining appearances of this particular blog, I do want to also bring up some ships that I think are maybe slightly on the obscurer side... and kind of DS9 heavy, and for some reason seem to involve Quark a lot.... anyways, so I love Quodo. So much in a kind of post-ironic sense. I also love Quark and Natima a lot (Qatima? Nuark?), and also Quark and Grilka (Qrilka? Guark?). Those are my less serious main ships, but I also want more fics about Vreenak and Iliana (from that fic called 'Heis'he Ri'nanovai') and also Geordi LaForge and Bochra, of course!

2. First Ship Ever: I honestly remember being such a hardcore stan for Spock and Uhura (Spuhura) when the AOS timeline came out. I remember all the unfortunate racist hate the ship got at the time online and in real life conversations, but even as a kid watching TOS, I always got the vibe that Uhura, or maybe Nichelle Nichols, had a lil' crush on Spock or Leonard, and I thought that was SO CUTE! I think I even wrote an incoherent rant at like 10 years old online on some forum somewhere... lol. Of course, Spirk became more obvious as I grew older and more aware of stuff.

3. Last Song: I just checked Spotify, and the last song I listened to was Feel Good Inc. by Gorillaz hehe.

4. Last Movie: A few nights ago, I rewatched Ghostbusters for the first time in like 7 years just for fun. It was definitely entertaining, but it makes me wonder why it became such an international phenomenon. It felt oddly niche.

5. Currently Reading: I'm 'always' reading Dune, but in terms of fics, I haven't read a lot lately, mostly rereading this Labyrinth fic. (PSA: Send me your fic if you want a reader! I'm always happy to check new stuff out.)

6. Currently Watching: The Last of Us, Deep Space 9, Picard, the odd Voyager episode...

7. Currently Consuming: Water. I should make some coffee and get some toast soon, though! I just don't wanna leave my room lol.

8. Currently Craving: I really want bad diner food right now, or maybe something spicy. Or like, some arabic coffee.

DS9 CONCEPT

The teenagers of DS9 agreeing to take care of Molly but they somehow end up having to pull a The Voyage Home.

Jake is the one who convinced them to do it

Nog is the brain cell for the moment who reluctantly agrees to go through with it, even though they’re gonna be breaking so many codes of conduct(Jake!)

Ziyal got Jadzia and Garak who got Julian and Kira who got Odo, Rom, and Quark on board for the trip

Amy’s just vibing with the whales most of the time after they get them on board the Bird of Prey

And Alexander is the one who got them into the trouble in the first place and who somehow got ahold of said Bird of Prey

And Molly is kind of just along for the ride cause they can’t tell the O’Brien’s. Or anyone else for that matter

Highlights Include

•Gratuitous amounts of Quodo, Garashir, Kiradax, and the main teens being in a polyamorous quintet of “okay to make it less difficult, here’s a diagram”

•The main five teens being a prime example of polyamory

•” The fate of the universe may depend on it Nog.” “…fine, but you’re getting thrown under the bus if any of us are court-martialed.”

•” We really shouldn’t do this.” “We’re doing it already Major.” “We’ve been doing it since you said you’d come along.”

•” Amy, the whales are fine, just go back to bed.” “But they might be lonely.” “😐”

•Amy bringing everyone who’s up late raktajino and having some soft late night conversation with Nog by the whale tanks(one of them ends up falling asleep on the others shoulder and the one who’s still awake ends up just letting them and they both fall asleep near the whale tanks)

•The teens being sensitive art souls in their own weird little ways

•Everyone competently taking care of Molly throughout the whole venture

•” Where’s Molly?!” “…BRB!” “AMY-!!!“ (proceeds to come back up like five seconds later with Molly perfectly fine)

•the group playing in San Francisco Bay after the mission succeeds

•Jake dragging an already soaked Nog into the bay like Kirk does with Spock in the original film and Nog in turn does the same with Amy unintentionally.

•the other's reactions to the event at the end when the squad gets pulled out of the bay and brought to the Starfleet headquarters and Sisko gets a very interesting call to come back to Earth.
