Does Azriel want a mate?
Short answer: yes
But here is my long answer:
Az expresses his dislike and resentment and jealousy instead of expressing these feelings people say he has for Elain is so telling that he is thinking of having love and a mate and he is jealous of his brothers for having mates.
He was elated for his brother, and yet… Azriel couldn't stop it. The envy in his chest. Of Cassian, and Rhys.
And people will say "well he's just jealous that his brothers have found love and he hasn't!" and I feel like yes, that could be a part of it, but we see that he is also can't stand the smell Elucien’s mating bond, and we all understand that those two aren't in the love stage of their relationship.  He needed the option of leaving the room because the smell of their mating bond was too much.
Because her mate had been in the family room and Ariel had needed to stay by the door the whole time because he couldn't stand the sight of it, the scent of their mating bond, and needed to have the option of leaving if it became too much.
So it sounds like he is jealous of the others around him who have mating bonds, not just those who have found love.
And this quote right here:
“The Cauldron chose three sisters. Tell me how it's possible that my two brothers are with two of those sisters, yet the third was given to another."
This is Az’s way of thinking.  The cauldron blessing the three of them with three sisters as their mates is the simplest solution to Az’s need to have a mate and he is upset that the Cauldron didn’t follow through with this.  He is questioning it, he’s wondering why?  This would be so simple!
But life isn’t that simple, especially in a fantasy romance where relationships are formed around plot.
The first half of the Azriel bonus chapter is filled with such negative emotions: desperation, self-hatred, resentment, rage, regret, disappointment.  He seems to have a strange mix of entiltlement and insecurity.  He doesn’t think, he is too overwelmed with these emotions, lust and desperation overpowers him.  He said it himself:
He hadn't gotten that far with his planning, certainly not beyond the fantasies he pleasured himself to.
Over and over he says that it’s a mistake, that it feels wrong.
He knew it was wrong, but there he was, sliding the necklace around her.
Wrong—it was so wrong.
And when he leaves Rhys, we get this quote:
He'd been so vigilant about keeping away from Elain as much as possible, and had stayed up here to avoid her, and tonight ... tonight had proved he'd been right to do so.
And then you know what happens?  When Az keeps away from Elain and he goes to the training pit to work off his feelings, he stumbles upon Gwyn.

🥀shadows and roses🥀
Okay so I finished ACOSF yesterday, and all I could do after that was lie in bed for most of the night trying to answer my own questions. As if SJM had written at the end: based on what we learned through this series what do you think happened…?
▪️Does Elain get to be with our beloved shadow singer?
▪️Does Gwyn ends up with him?
▪️Is Mor ever going to come out to her family?
▪️Will Lucien be happy and find a place to call home?
I got into this series because I saw a bunch of fan art. And I kind of spoiled the main plot for me, I knew Rhysand and Feyre were end game but I kept getting confused about Azriel, Gwyn, Lucien and Elain.
I was expecting each character to have their own chapters so we could see the development of these relationships. And I was so sure Azriel ended up with Gwyn.
And Elain with Lucien.
But nothing of it happened.
I enjoyed Nesta’s journey and how she was mated with Cassian. I adore them both.
I know now that there might be another book to this series and I’m here to pour my heart out about how I feel about the story of two of my favorite characters.
💐Elain and Azriel💐
Because I saw lots of fan art declaring Az and Gwyn were kind of endgame. But I disagree.
I’m glad it didn’t end like that.
I know they all are gonna be happy in the end. But I have my biases about it.
I proceed to enlist my reasons to believe why ✨ELRIEL✨ is the right path.
🌹 Let's face the fact that Elain has a trauma after being kidnapped and dropped into the Cauldron. Yes it did served some greater goods like the fact she DID NOT marry that ;d10t whose name I don't even remember. (Ok I do, freaking Grayson) and now the three sisters get to be together for ever. 🥹🫰🏼
But Lucien and Tamlin helped plotting this against Feyre. I still can’t see how this could have made Feyre go back together with Tam but… he was desperate.
And he knew she loved her sisters and would not allow them to be hurt.
Granted, maybe "they didn't know" what the King was capable of but GOD, Elain must be having a hard time forgiving Lucien. Not just because hauling them to the King but because all of his omissions to her sister. I always thought about our lovely Lucien as Tam’s puppet. Like they were in this toxic friendship where Lucien was agreeing to everything Tam said because he would get upset if he didn’t and Lucien was being disloyal to himself just to have Tam content.
🦇While on the other hand Azriel saved her EVERY SINGLE TIME.
😒I remember how Lucien sat there trying to reach through the bond to see if he could tell what was wrong with her and after the most uncomfortable 30 minutes he doesn’t have a clue and Azriel 😍 can tell after 30 seconds Elain is a Seer.
🌿He takes her to the garden and didn’t push her, he just keeps her company. And the fact that he remembers Feyre mentioned Elain’s love for flowers IS SO SO SWEET. 🥹
👒Feyre says they are and I quote “the only civilized ones.” Which means they are so alike. At their first meeting they both try to smooth the mood and end up relaxing around each other.
☯️They are both quiet and introverted but Az is a spymaster, he tortures people and is surrounded by shadows. He feels insecure about his past and his scars and Elain is all sunshine and flowers. Calling him BEAUTIFUL when they arrive at the townhouse, making him blush. BALANCE. They can perfectly complement each other.
🗡️Az hands Elain Truth Teller, and he had never handed it to anybody.
❤️‍🔥After 500 years of Az head over heels for Mor, Cas noticed he no longer looked at her as he used to. AFTER 500 YEARS! What could have happened? What took Az out of his monumental crush on Mor? ELAIN! The answer is ELAIN. 😫😫😫
🤩It would be refreshing if this mating bond didn’t work. My heart squeezed when Az asks Rhys about the Cauldron being wrong about it. How he tried to expose his reasons to believe it doesn’t make sense she was mated to Lucien because his two brothers were mated to the Archeron sisters. And tbh I think the same. Amren said it once, that it was not a coincidence the three sisters were there. And we also have THREE BAT BOYS. Lovely, handsome, always caring BAT BOYS. (I’m not saying Lucien is not all those things but it just makes better sense to me she goes to the other available bat boy).
🍁And it would be more interesting than seeing Lucien being unhappy about Elain's indifference. Their interactions are uncomfortable, FUN but uncomfortable.
🏔️You know what would be SO OFF THE CHARTS?! That we could get to see them trying to make it work between Lucien and Elain. And also Az and Gwyn. Go through the details of how they can make it work fine but there’s still something missing and BOOM, Elain ends up going back to Az because that’s what she truly wants. And what Az wants too.
🌠Rhys said his parents were mates but weren't right for each other.
And don’t worry, Lucien is still got a lot of options for his future love life. He will be happy. Let's just accept the fact that just because they're mates doesn't mean Elain doesn't have a choice.
I don’t owe the fan art. But girlll very accurate.😍😍😍
👒🦇🥀ELRIEL FOR EVER 🦇👒🥀

Let me be open with you for a second
As you all know, my name is Samantha. That name was not given to me by my parents, but rather it is the name I chose for myself.
At the age of 11 I experience my first crush on a male, at the time I thought I was gay but then at the age of 13 I realized I was still able to have crushes in girls. So I realized I was bisexual
The guy I had a crush on was 4 years older than me. And I was extremely fond of him, so much so that I adopted his look, and made it my own. That’s why I love wearing plaid shirts.
I used to disguised this attraction by saying that he was like an older brother to me. That was my excuse but deep down, I had a crush on him just like any 11 year old would have a crush on their babysitter let’s say
But then at 15, my world shattered.
For more context; I was born to immigrants. My parents immigrated to Canada when I was very little, I don’t remember much of our home country. I grew up without grandparents, cousins, uncles, aunts.
Because I never had these connections, and because I changed schools so frequently due to dad’s work, I was never able to make friends.
I was a very lonely kid.
My parents and siblings were my whole world, and I came to realize that without them, I would have no purpose
So back to 15. My parents divorced. My Dad called the cops on my mom for false accusations of domestic abused. My mom tried laying charges back for mental domestic abuse as well. I remember talking to one of the cops, asking if I was okay. I don’t remember my response….
My dad left us after that night. He went onto live outside and we rarely ever saw him.
That same year, me 15, my sister 11, and my brother 7 were faced with a choice that should never ever be imposed on any child; mom or dad
If we chose dad, mom threatened to go back to our home country and we would never see her again. But if we chose mom, we still had the possibility to see dad. The choice was clear
And although we chose mom, she made it next to impossible for us to form any sort of bond with dad
I hated her for this, I hated her immensely. She fell into a severe depression, and was taking meds at the times for which she became addicted to.
Every night, for the next year, I had to sleep close to the kitchen. She would walk there in the middle of the night and grab a knife. I caught her once about to commit suicide.
It was the darkest time of my life.
I fell into my own depression. But my life, my well being was put on hold.
I failed most classes in high school but I didn’t care. I had to find a job because mom wouldn’t.
I found something at a daycare, and gained a decent salary to help buy groceries, because of this, I was unable to build up enough credit to attend university. So I gave up on it.
My relationship with mom deteriorated further, and so did mine with my siblings.
Subconsciously I took on the role of a parent figure for them but they did not see it that way. I was trying to protect them from mom, but they didn’t think I was. And so my relationship with my siblings, specially with my brother, broke
My world was shattered. The only people I knew were fighting and moving apart from each other. I fell into a depression that I never bothered to get checked
I attempted suicide myself many times. But everytime I would do it, I would say to myself “they need me. I can’t go yet”
That kept me going
I joined the army to be able to provide even more, my salary was good. I was able to provide with food and rent. I stayed in for 5 years. And I left due to them not paying me on time in several occasions
During this time I had cut dad completely out of my life. Mom kept showing me court documents trying to brainwash me into thinking my dad was and I quote “the worst human being to ever exist and if I don’t see it, I must be as bad as him”
During the summer of 2021 I decided to stop the army work. I enrolled in a trade school for something I had a passion on, but was not my dream job; a mechanic. And in the month of January 2022, I started classes
At this time I had already made this blog without really thinking much of it. But I also had more time to explore my mind.
I realized there was so much more than what I thought, my sexuality for one.
I started wondering why kids in my school always treated me like a girl, saying I’m “too girly to be a boy”. Why I loved wearing long hair and it made me feel better about myself. Why wearing a towel as a skirt made me feel nice
I talked to a couple of people and then realized, I might be trans.
May 25, 2022. I start a discord server, for which people rapidly started joining.
I was this enigmatic server owner people knew next to nothing about. Some started thinking that I was a woman behind the screen, for the way I talked and treated others in and I quote “a motherly way”
This made me feel better, and made me realized finally; I was a trans woman.
With that in mind, I knew if I told my family, they would not accept it. So I went months practicing makeup, dressing the way I wanted to dress, all in secret.
Moving to December 2022. My sister showed interest in what’s inside my head. I came out to her. I told her everything and she said “I did not know you had all this built up. Why didn’t you say anything?” Because nobody ever asked.
The thoughts of suicide started creeping up again. My friends online will remember this, and thank you again for saving me.
January 2023, I tell mom. And I tell dad. My dad at this point lives in a different province. I never see him anymore
Mom was not accepting of me, but she assured me that she would still love me, but would rather see me in boy clothes.
With all this, my family started distancing themselves because they could not believe that I was trans. Or rather they just didn’t wanna accept it.
I felt lonely
I felt scared
I felt anxious
I wanted to die
I had no more reason to keep living. My family didn’t want me around.
Last night… I could not see the light anymore. I don’t have a family to keep working for, they were my world and now they don’t want me.
I felt lonelier than I’ve ever felt before in my life. Ever.
I cried, and I screamed. My sister said to “submit to God” and brushed me aside
I walked up to my apartment. I grabbed a knife.. I looked at it for 30 minutes, trying to find a reason to stay. I couldn’t find one.
I placed the knife to my heart, but couldn’t do it. I layed on the floor, crying. And that’s when my brother came in, he was looking for something. And he found me. Asked me if I was okay, I said no…
I grabbed the knife once again, and he saw what I was doing, he took it away from me, and sat with me.
He saved my life last night.
When you lose a friend irl, you have at least the luxury of knowing, but someone online… they just wouldn’t show up anymore and you wouldn’t be able to know if they’re still around anymore or not.
Im sorry to all of you for almost doing that.
My life has been one with so much loneliness, I would never ever wish this on anyone. Ever. That is why I focus on helping others socialize, that is why that whenever someone comes to me for advice or because they need someone, I drop whatever the hell im doing, even if I’m crying my eyes out and go to talk to them.
I do so much, and rarely I ever get anything in return. But that is fine by me, because I’ve been able to build a community of people who now not only they follow this example, they send messages to me re-affirming what I believed; that I’ve saved them.
So thank you all for reading up to the end of this post. It was long and I won’t lie. But I had to make it.
You guys have helped me find myself, and have saved me before.
I promise to work on myself everyday so to stay with you all for as long as possible
Sam

Star Wars Rebels and Ezrabine
Since I'm an amateur writer making an uneducated guess, I'd like to discuss relationships in the Star Wars universe. It's probably one of the touchiest subjects in this community, right after the debate over which trilogy was better (prequel or sequel), whether Jar Jar Binks was necessary, or if the politics are actually garbage.
To be more specific, I want to delve into the relationship between Ezra and Sabine from Star Wars Rebels. You might know them as Ezrabine or Sabezra. They're one of the hottest topics in pairings, right up there with Rey and Ben/Kylo. While the latter pair is something I deeply disapprove of, I'm neutrally conflicted about Sabezra.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before I dissect the relationship itself, I'd like to touch on three points that people often criticize or discuss. Please bear with me; I'm a bit sleep-deprived.
Ages:
Quoting from Quora: "Han's official year of birth is 'ca. 32 BBY,' which means he's anywhere from ten to thirteen years older than Leia." This suggests that the most iconic couple in Star Wars had a notably significant age gap. "Padmé was born in 46 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin), and Anakin's miraculous Force-created birth came in 41 BBY, so Padmé is five years older than him." Yet another iconic couple, with a substantial age difference. Hera and Kanan are yet another example, with Hera being four years older.
Headcanons:
I understand that people want Sabine to be a lesbian, and I can empathize with that desire. As a queer Star Wars fan myself, I comprehend the need for characters with similar journeys and identities. However, while having headcanons, it's crucial to remember that they are personal interpretations. They don't become canon for everyone just because you envision them that way. You're free to explore your own headcanons, and if others agree, that's even better. But ultimately, headcanon remains just that—headcanon.
For instance, my personal headcanon includes Ahsoka being aroace, or at the very least, completely asexual bisexual. And I believe Luke Skywalker isn't straight at all. I mean, have you seen the boots he wore for his own execution? Come on!
Relationships in Star Wars:
When we examine relationships in the Star Wars universe, we discover a wide array. These range from parent-child relationships, sibling bonds, adopted families, found families, to romantic love in various forms, ages, and situations. Tragedy often follows these relationships:
Ashoka and Anakin: Master and Padawan, Brother and Sister, Tragedy.
Obi-Wan and Satine: Jedi and Senator, Lovers, Tragedy.
Padme and Anakin: Senator and Jedi, Tragedy.
Kanan and Hera: Jedi and Rebel, Tragedy.
Yoda and Dooku: Master and Padawan, Tragedy.
This list goes on endlessly, and it's filled with sorrow.
Most of the significant Star Wars relationships are fraught with tragedy.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The relationship within the Ghost crew can be described as follows: "The crew of the Ghost in Star Wars Rebels has always been a family. They aren't related by blood, and they didn't come from the same homeworlds, but they are bound together by a common cause, respect, trust, and love." This is how Amy Richau described them in an article on StarWars.com.
From what I've gathered, the found family dynamic within the Ghost crew evolves with each member.
Take Kanan, for example. While Hera is his girlfriend and wife, Chopper is a quirky, psychopathic pet, and Sabine is like a surrogate daughter, Kanan's relationship with Ezra is that of a Padawan and Master to the highest degree. A master plays a role akin to that of a father but maintains the mentorship for training and respect, which involves clear emotions but also a deeper line.
Hera takes on the role of a self-proclaimed mom, offering kindness in the harsh times of rebellion. Zeb is mostly like the older brother who spotted you as a newbie at school and decided to lend a helping hand, providing support and having your back.
What I'm trying to convey is that while the Ghost crew is undoubtedly a family under any circumstances, the relationship between Ezra and Sabine doesn't fit the sibling mold, especially not from Season 3 onward. There's a reason I believe Ezra still has feelings for Sabine, at least until the Ahsoka Episode 4 standpoint.
From Season 3 onward, we witness Ezra's transformation. He matures, learns, and fully embraces his role as a future Jedi. He's no longer the kid the crew rescued on that planet, nor does he try to flirt with Sabine like some awkward neighbor kid. He's become an integral part of their close-knit community.
He and Sabine are equals, and he's no longer the young person Sabine takes under her wing in an older sisterly manner. They fight as rebels together, as comrades in the same community. Perhaps they sense a familial bond through the crew, but no dialogue from either of them implies a sibling relationship. They haven't been written with sibling energy, unlike the dynamic between Ahsoka and Anakin or Leia and Luke in the 6th movie.
In Season 3, there are moments that could have established them as siblings to emphasize the family connection. Take, for instance, when Ezra meets Sabine's family during the Mandalorian arc, and he talks to Sabine's brother for the first time. Instead of introducing himself as Sabine's brother, it comes off more like a boy meeting his Gfs family.
There might be counterarguments, as in Season 4's beginning when Ezra and the other Mandalorians rescue Sabine's father. Ezra doesn't claim to be family; he implies that he isn’t in a romantic relationship with Sabine. However, the fact that Ezra never alludes to a sibling relationship is intriguing. The end of Rebels, where it's just between Ezra and Sabine, further adds complexity to the situation, with how he decides to confide in him and him only.
There may have been something in the works discussed in the directing room, but then why is there a sudden shift to a sibling relationship in Ahsoka? It's hard to believe that after not allowing Ezra to introduce himself as Sabine's brother, they now suddenly introduce that element again. There are some theories out there that could explain why Sabine scoffs instead of reacting fondly when he says he's her brother. It's all quite frustrating.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
While there's undoubtedly a sense of familial connection within the Ghost crew, the relationship between Sabine and Ezra has taken on a different dimension. It doesn't necessarily have to be romantic, as there are moments missing for that kind of build-up. Some scenes, the way they're animated, shot, or the dialogue they share, indicate a different dynamic.
But there's also no clear groundwork for a sibling relationship, and considering Star Wars' storytelling and penchant for twists, it wouldn't be surprising if it turned out to be a setup.
The divide within the fandom over the years has also made it challenging to establish this relationship. And keeping it ambiguous didn't help as we know how fandoms like to rip each other apart.
But in the end, it's a story. Let's stay calm, take a deep breath, and see how it unfolds. Let's keep the discussions civil and respect each other's viewpoints as we argue like pros!

hello! This has been following me for days and I can’t get a clear picture but how do you think it’s arya’s reaction to the close relationship that jon and sansa created, I mean after all, she’s a little girl, coming home after a long and dangerous journey, I suppose she’ll want this sense of normalcy, but ohhh she comes home and her beloved brother and only sister are so close......so where does she fit in now, in this new reality??????? ? adding that she realizes the romantic feelings between jon and sansa or that she arrives and everyone knows that he is their cousin and is engaged to her sister...... idk... I’ve been in ao3 for too long
That's probably going to be very interesting!
My suspicion is that two things will prepare Arya to be more accepting of the relationship: her reconciliation with Catelyn (in terms of understanding that her mother loves and accepts her as she is, "messy hair", i.e. dark past and desire for freedom, and all) and her reconciliation with Sansa.
Being accepted for who she is frees up Arya to be less knee-jerk defensive toward Sansa and appreciate her strengths, while Sansa's experiences of being pushed around by those who abuse their power have made her much more admiring of the bravery it takes to defy social expectations and take initiative. They will see each other with a clarity that Cat and Lysa never had, and whatever scheme Littlefinger may try to work on them will fail. Their bond will become very strong.
If Jon is no longer her only source of emotional security, it'll be easier for Arya to deal with the idea of "sharing" him, because it doesn't have to diminish their relationship at all. "Don't tell Sansa!" becomes obsolete if Arya is no longer battling windmills against her sister. And in a world where children are slaughtered and mothers become vengeful revenants, a transgressive love may not be the worst thing to discover. To quote Ned Dayne "And where's the harm in that?" Especially as RLJ will be a deciding factor.
That said, I think it won't be out in the open right away, and both Sansa and Jon would be understandably wary of her reaction. It seems like the kind of thing where Arya will connect some uncomfortable dots over time through her gift of observation, like Catelyn uncovering the secret of Lysa's past pregnancy, and reacting ultimately with compassionate sadness. Whatever misgivings she may initially harbor, I think Arya will give Jon and Sansa her blessing in some kind of way, and it will mean a lot to Jon especially. A brighter mirror to Jaime's confession to Tyrion about Tysha.

Sibling Dynamics in Jane Austen
Long Post
There are so many dynamics in the Jane Austen novels that I find interesting. Also, did you know the word “siblings” didn’t exist yet. It’s so useful but I’m not allowed to use it in FF!
Pride & Prejudice gives us three strong sister bonds, Jane and Elizabeth; Caroline and Louisa; and Kitty and Lydia. Jane and Elizabeth have a very positive relationship: Elizabeth and Jane both comfort the other, they advise each other, and safely share secrets. Kitty and Lydia have a negative relationship, Kitty knows about Wickham and Lydia but conceals it from her parents; Lydia leads Kitty into doing things she shouldn’t; and when tested, Kitty is jealous of Lydia and Lydia doesn’t care that KItty is left out.
Louisa and Caroline also seem to have a very strong relationship, they are a united front in Caroline’s schemes to win Darcy. They are often quoted together, as in “the sisters laughed” or talked about something, especially at Netherfield. While they are working towards a goal that Jane Austen probably finds repugnant, they seem to have a strong bond and like each other (dramatic letter to about them hating each other to Jane notwithstanding).
Other siblings include Mrs. Bennet and Mrs. Philips, who share gossip and the Philipses try to help their neices by inviting men over. Darcy and Georgiana clearly have a very close relationship, but they do not act like siblings; Darcy is very much a father figure to her. In the end, Elizabeth and Jane take on this sort of role for Kitty, to her benefit. Oh, and while Bingley seems to have a totally opposite personality to his sisters, we have no indication that he dislikes them, after all, Bingley likes Darcy and he makes fun of the vulgar people along with Caroline and Louisa.
Sense & Sensibility, on the other hand, gives us strained sibling relationships. Edward has a sister who meddles in his life and pushes him towards careers he doesn’t want. Robert and Edward seem to have almost a Jacob and Esau thing going on, Edward is the oldest brother, but Robert manages to steal both his birthright and his fiance (not knowing that Edward actually doesn’t love Lucy anymore). It’s clear that Edward does not like his family and tries to avoid them if possible. His happy ending is going low contact, not reconciling.
Elinor and Marianne clearly love each other, but their relationship is strained by their difference in personalities and Elinor being forced into a parenting position in her family. Elinor has to tell Marianne that visiting Allenham alone with Willoughby was wrong. Elinor is also forced to be polite on Marianne’s behalf. However, even though they have difficulties, the love between them is very strong. Elinor loves Marianne and Marianne is mortified to learn she’s been hurting Elinor. Their relationship is repaired by the end of the novel.
Not so with the other sister pair! Anne and Lucy are interesting, they present a Louisa and Caroline-like united front when making the Middletons love them, but they also spy on each other and Lucy has to stop Anne from breaching propriety multiple times. Anne seems to be something of a burden to Lucy, who does do kind things for her sister like trimming her bonnet. But when Lucy achieves the dream (marrying a man of fortune), she steals her sister’s money and leaves her behind. There is no mention that Lucy takes care of Anne in the future, which indicates to me that Lucy was using Anne and there was no real affection on her side.
I cannot miss John Dashwood. HALF SIBLINGS ARE REAL SIBLINGS YOU ********!!!!!! He’s the worst. Anyway, I’m curious how long he lived with his younger sisters. He is already married and has a child by the time his father died so it’s unclear how much of a stepmother Mrs. Dashwood was to him and how much he knew his sisters. But still, give them 1k dude, I don’t care what your wife says.
In Northanger Abbey, we see some mixed gender pairs, Catherine & James and Henry & Eleanor. Catherine loves her brother and is happy to see him, but James fails in his sibling relationship by trying to use Catherine for his own purposes of flirting with Isabella. He tries to pressure her against her conscience, which I have trouble forgiving. Henry and Eleanor have one of the cutest relationships ever (because NA is the cutest novel ever). Henry clearly spends time at Northanger to make his sister less lonely (I doubt he wants to be around their father); they share similar interests; and they joke together. They are the ultimate #siblinggoals. Neither of them seem to like their older brother.
The Thorpes are kind of strange. It seems like occasionally they are a united front trying to secure both Catherine and James (like when Isabella tells Catherine in a letter that she’s engaged to John, or when she tries to disparage the Tilneys), but they do not seem to be coordinated; more that their interests align. Isabella even encourages Catherine to look for Henry for a while. John does help Isabella once, during the scheme that Catherine skips. If they had been a stronger pair, Catherine might have had more trouble getting away, but neither John or Isabella seems intelligent enough to plan big.
Persuasion seems to be the novel of “Build-Your-Own-Family”. Anne’s sisters are awful. Frederick and Sophia seem to have a great relationship, as do the Musgroves, particularly Henrietta and Louisa who don’t let a man get between them. Anne seems much more inclined to hang out with these more loving people than her own family, and they welcome and appreciate her. The Musgroves, in particular, really love Anne by the end of the novel. This seems to fit into the theme of the novel, that it’s better to work for what you want than rely on accidents of birth. Anne’s new family, Wentworth and his navy buddies and the Crofts, sounds wonderful.
In Emma, we have a lot of single children, or essentially single. Emma has not had her sister around since she was 13 and their personalities are so different it doesn’t seem like their bond is very strong. Emma also doesn’t ever get to visit London, so she isn’t around Isabella very often. Her relationship with Miss Taylor actually seems more like a sibling or friend relationship than student/tutor. Jane and Frank are both only children. George and John Knightley seem very close, and both Emma and George are good with their nieces and nephews. The other sibling mentioned is Mrs. Elton’s sister, Mrs. Suckling. I would love to know more about this relationship, and the real reason why the sister never visits!
Lastly, Mansfield Park. The strongest sibling connection is William and Fanny, who write to each other faithfully over their long years apart. They are very cute together, I love their little plan to have a cottage together when they are older. Fanny also forms a strong bond with her sister Susan.
Henry and Mary seem very close, even though he won’t move to Everingham for her as she requests (not too close though, stop accusing the orphaned siblings of incest! It is not strange that orphans are close! I blame MP 1999). What I find interesting is that while Mary seems to help with Henry’s flirtation (by giving Fanny a necklace originally purchased by him) it’s unclear if Henry even knows that Mary likes Edmund. Mary actually gets mad at herself for implying that she expects to marry Edmund. I think this says more about the rules of the era (women aren’t supposed to assume they’ll be proposed to) than the sibling relationship. Mrs. Grant’s restored relationship with Mary is one of the bright spots in Mansfield Park. It’s nice that Jane Austen gives pretty soft landings to even female characters that she disagrees with.
The Bertrams are not doing great with sibling relationships. Tom gambled away half of Edmund’s inheritance and doesn’t even feel bad about it. When Edmund opposes the play, Tom reminds him to stay in his place as the second son. Yet, Edmund helps Tom when he’s ill instead of smothering him with a pillow, so he seems to love Tom or at least feel a duty to him. The sisters seem close, but aren’t. As we are told, Henry would be the rightful property of Julia, since Maria is engaged, but she doesn’t respect her sister’s claim and both sisters allow Henry to ruin their sisterly relationship. We are told by the narrator that they should have understood Henry was messing with them because he’s playing them against each other, but their bond isn’t strong enough to save them.
Then we have the Ward sisters, Mrs. Price, Mrs. Norris and Lady Bertram. It’s unclear if there is any love between them, Mrs. Norris seems to like Lady Bertram because she can control her. She exploits the sibling relationship to remain at Mansfield Park and mooch off their money. The relationship between those sisters and Mrs. Price is essentially broken. Mrs. Price is too long separated from the Bertrams to even feel sad that Tom is sick and we are told that Lady Bertram wouldn’t care if all the Price children died (save William and Fanny), and Mrs. Norris would think it was great to not have to provide for so many children. Probably some of the worst siblings we see in terms of having a bond.

ST analysis/S5 theories Part I: Will and Henry - parallels and differences
I started making theories on S5 the moment I finished S4. It was so good! Of course, theories should be fun, and they come from my immense love for this story and its amazing characters. If what I speculate doesn’t happen, no problem. I just hope the story is good. That being said, let’s have fun!
There are so many theories to discuss and analysis to make. Where the powers come from, Will and Eleven, the parallels between the two Byler relationships (Nancy/ Jonathan, and Will/ Mike) and so much more! But today let’s talk about my favorite character, Will Byers. He didn’t have much to do this season, but his scenes were among my favorite. Some of them were so beautiful and heartbreaking. Noah Schnapp is such a talented actor. But more importantly, some of the most shocking reveals of the show that we got in S4 involve Will directly. That’s why they had to send him to California, imo, or it would be even more obvious. This proves his fundamental role in the story and in the last season of Stranger Things. I’m talking about Henry and Will’s parallels, the Upside Down being stuck at 11/6/83, the day Will went missing, Dustin telling they needed Will, and Nancy mentioning how he found a way to communicate with his mom with the lights. They really wanted us to think about the mysterious week he spent there alone. And for good reasons.
1. Parallels between Will Byers and Henry Creel
They’re obvious and very deliberate. From the words to describe them (sensitive kids), to their clothes and love for drawing. The writers went out of their way to make us notice how similar they are. Of course, it’s important for the story.
Two sensitive kids who love drawing
Tumblr media
Almost the same clothes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They both drew the Mind Flayer.
Tumblr media
Both Vecna and Will are called wizards. The password to enter Castle Byers in S1 is Radagast, the name of one of the wizards in The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings. Also, notice the flames on Will’s cloak. Flames, fireballs. The only thing that can hurt the creatures of the UD. Coincidence? I think not.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hopper, in S2, asks if they can kill the Mind Flayer with fireballs
Tumblr media
Even the littlest details show the clear connection between them.
Will in his classroom, in Lenora. Behind him, the name Henry
Tumblr media
Henry’s infamous grandfather clock. The name of the manufacturer: Williams The clock was important in S4 and will be even more important in S5 (the theory on why is here )
Tumblr media
So yeah, we get it, Duffer brothers. Will and Henry are similar (cough, and they both have powers, cough)
2. Differences
Henry didn’t have a loving family. His father seemed to at least care about him, but they didn’t seem close. Henry calling him blind and dumb could mean that he didn’t see many things, not just that he lost his eyes. Henry’s mother despised him and wanted a doctor to lock him up to fix him. And I’m sure he didn’t have a bond with his sister, who probably considered him a freak. Henry was a lonely, kid, like he said, deeply misunderstood, and when he realized he had powers, he didn’t have anybody who could guide him or stop him. So he started to use them to hurt others. He became a predator. He said: But for good. So he didn’t just kill for fun. But that doesn’t change the fact that he chose violence.
Will has an awful dad, but he has a loving mother and brother. He has friends he loves fiercely, especially Mike. People who would do anything to protect him. And Will’s so selfless that he was even worried about Jonathan’s hand, when he was the one who’d almost died in a scary, alternate dimension.
Tumblr media
So why showing us how similar Will and Henry are? Some people think it’s foreshadowing of Will becoming like Henry. I disagree. We know that in S5 Will will have a huge role, but it’s going to be, to quote the Duffers, “the beginning of his coming of age”. I doubt they want him to be possessed again and start killing people. He’ll be a hero, not a villain.
Anyway, I think it is possible that Will only has vague memories of what happened to him in the UD. I’m sure people told him what he did, about the lights, the cassette player, the phone calls, and he was just like, hm, yeah, I did those things. It wouldn’t be too strange. In S2, Lucas told Max that Will didn’t want to talk about his experience. And let’s be honest. Has anyone ever asked him how he was able to almost open a gate in his living room? Or how did El recognize him from that pic? They never answered those questions. So maybe the answer in S5 will be something like: We were so focused on saving you, that we never really thought about it. Or, you always said you didn’t want to talk about it. And Will could say that it was all confused and he just remembered he was always cold and scared.
Maybe he can’t remember because of the trauma. Like El forgot about Henry and the massacre. Or it could be something that was done to him. To let him stay dormant until Vecna or the MF needs him, once the UD starts to merge with our world. Will literally said that to Max and Lucas in S3, when they were talking about the Flayed people: “It’s like you’re dormant.”  The actor who plays Henry said that Vecna and Will have history. So, in S5, Will could realise that he knows more than he thinks and will need to remember every detail about those terrifying days. And in doing so, he will find the answers they need to win.
Tumblr media
S5 SPOILERS
From some bts photos, we know that someone will get targeted by Vecna, or will have visions, or will have to reliving memories.
Noah posted this pic on IG. He wears the same harness used when Max got Vecna’d in 4x04.
EDIT: It seems that the harness was for the van scene, for safety. But the other pics are still proof that something weird is going to happen, for sure
Tumblr media
This is a flying harness.
Tumblr media
In the S4 read table we see the actor who plays Lonnie. But we didn’t see Lonnie in S4, so either they cut his scene or they’ve already filmed a few scenes of S5.
Tumblr media
And here another bts pic of Noah and Millie at the Rink-o-Mania. Noah wears the same brown shirt. In the actual scene he doesn’t, so this happens later, in a vision. Whose vision? Who knows? Will's? Mike's, if he gets Vecna'd? Look at Millie’s dress. Yep. That’s the milkshake.
Tumblr media
But even tho we don’t know what these pics mean, the hints throughout the whole show are clear: Will is important and has a deep connection to Henry, the Mind Flayer and the UD, because he has powers too. And this is one of the biggest surprises of the show.
3. Will wasn’t just a random victim and the kidnapping scene proves it
How:
The Demogorgon’s attack is different
The door opened with telekinesis (no creature in the show has ever used that power. Not the Demogorgons in S1 and S4, nor the demobats or demodogs. They could include that element in other seasons, but maybe they didn’t because they decided it could actually mean something)
The shed’s light (this detail comes back in S4. In the Creel House)
1)  It really seems that the Demorgogon specifically targeted Will, because after the kidnapping we learn that the monster chases preys that are bleeding: Barb, the deer, Jonathan and Nancy, the government men (at the school, Mike even says twice: “Blood! Blood!”) But the monster never really attacks Joyce. Imo, because she wasn’t bleeding. The Demogorgon just didn’t want her to help Will. And Will wasn’t bleeding either. We have confirmation from Hopper. When he finds his bike, Joyce explicitly asks if there was blood on it and Hopper says there wasn’t.
Tumblr media
We also know that, despite the fact that he wasn’t bleeding, the Demogorgon followed Will for a mile. We know it was a mile because at the funeral Jonathan shows Nancy a map of Hawkins. The writers started the show with Will’s kidnapping, when we knew nothing about this world and this monster, and then spent the rest of the season showing us what the Demogorgon does and doesn’t do, how it attacks its prey, and what attracks it (Mike at school: “Blood! Blood!”) The Duffers never openly told us there was something weird about Will’s kidnapping, or that Will was somehow special. They showed us that his kidnapping was different from the other attacks.
Will’s kidnapping was important for the plot so they made it as mysterious as possible. True. But it’s also what they did AFTER S1 that, imo, confirms that what happened to Will was actually different. They could add information, details in later seasons that made that scene more like other attacks. But it never happened.
On the contrary. At the end of S1 Will dies. So it seems he was just a random victim, right? But then in S2, when the Duffers said they planned out the rest of the show, suddenly Will tells Owens that this evil he’s seeing in the sky wants to kill everyone but him. Maybe, since he survived, Henry/Mind Flayer thought wait a minute, can we use him again? Sure. Or maybe Will’s “death” means something else. Because we know for sure that he wasn’t just a random victim like Barb or the other people. The very world he was trapped in apparently is stuck on the day he went missing (and not when he was intubated) That means that whatever being was in control there, the MF or Henry, they knew that something big had happened. And I refuse to believe they didn’t know it was Will. So, simply killing him and let him rot... Nah, not possible. Even if they wanted to kill him, it was for some specific reason. Stealing his powers, turnng him into an undead (He’s not breathing!) a creature of the UD. A... Zombie Boy the MF could control. We’ll see.
All of this, of course, makes me think that the Demogorgon showed up in the middle of the street to kidnap Will.
He was targeted because he too is sensitive to (the Force) powers. He had the potential. Like Henry when he was 12. Will’s not an experiment or the child of someone who was part of Brenner’s experiments, like El. I think Henry and Will’s abilities were directly activated by the source of the powers itself. The UD/Mind Flayer. Henry’s in 1959, in his house. Will’s in the UD, on November 6th, 1983. That’s when his life changed, in many ways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2)  I read the theory that it was El who opened the Byers’ door with telekinesis. That the Demogorgon was actually chasing her, she saw Will, (the reason why she later recognized him in the photo), but didn’t help him because she was scared. I disagree. It wasn’t her at the door. It was the monster. Will saw its tall shadow in the door’s glass. He heard it growling and on the phone when he tried to call 911. Plus, there was no reason for El to open the door in that moment.
But it’s interesting that no other creature has ever used that power again. Not even Billy and the Flayed. My theory is that the Demogorgon in S1, as the only creature El touched when she opened the gate, kinda absorbed her powers, like Vecna did when the MF bit her in S3. And that’s also why the monster was also able to temporarily open small gates. Something we’ve never seen again. Also, in S2 and in S3, we see El opening a lot of chain locks (the Byers’ too, in 2x08. Same shot!) imo to make us make the connection that the Demogorgon was in fact using her powers in S1. But the point of this moment, imo, is that the monster could smash that door and grab Will. But it didn’t. And I find that detail very interesting.
Tumblr media
3)  More thoughts on the Demogorgon. I know that it first killed a scientist in the lab, so it may seem that it wasn’t there for Will. Well. We already knew it was there to kill people. It also attacked Barb, two hunters... It wasn’t always at the Byers house in the UD during that week. But the Demogorgons in S1 and S4 we saw were always ferocious. They growled and screamed. Only the one that got Will was quiet. Also, the bike light flickered just a moment before Will saw it. I think it’s because it had just opened a small gate in the middle of the street. It totally makes sense to think that it knew Will was coming.
Oh, one more thing. Nancy saw the Demogorgon at Steve’s and the monster was so close that she noticed it didn’t have a face. But it didn’t attack her. Maybe because she wasn’t bleeding? Or because it wasn’t hungry? But it did chase Will for a mile even tho he wasn’t bleeding. And if it was hungry, I bet it would’ve been much more aggressive.
Tumblr media
The only season that seems to imply that Will was a random victim and is not special at all is S3, the season when he feels ignored and says that the MF has found “another me”. Billy.
Now, of course possessing Will again would be too risky anyway. He knows what the MF is and they could try to stop it again. But also, in that season Henry just wanted to get El’s powers and killed her. And he needed the Flayed’s bodies to build the Mind Flayer. So imo, Will being ignored doesn’t mean that he’s not important.
Tumblr media
Then, in S4, we got some big surprises. The introduction of Henry, who has many parallels with Will, the huge reveal that the UD didn’t always look like that. And that is even stuck on the very day Will went missing. And not just when El opened the gate. But the exact moment Will vanished, at 8:15 pm.
We know that’s when the Demogorgon got him, because Karen told Mike he had to go to bed at fifteen after (eight) And when Joyce calls her the next morning, Karen tells her Will left just a little bit after eight. So, at 8:15 he was in the shed with the Demogorgon. And the UD being stuck at that moment is definitely important (also Will keeps have visions of the MF at 8:15 pm, even tho when he was filming Mike it was actually 8:04)
Tumblr media
So.
The only way I could accept this coincidence is if they explain it as a parallel with Henry, who also happened to move to a town and into a house where the veil between our world and the UD is probably thinner. And that’s why he was able to sense the UD and draw the MF, and how his powers were activated. If that’s the explanation on how Henry’s powers were activated, because he moved into the only house where he could develop his hidden abilities, then, maybe, I can accept that Will was going home that night, and since the lab was near, he just met the Demogorgon. And then, when he arrived in the UD and had a direct contact with it, like Henry with the MF when he was a kid, his powers were activated too. But that’s the only coincidence I could accept, kinda. And I still prefer the idea that the Demogorgon followed him for a mile because it knew it had to get that kid. After all, there IS a big difference here. When Henry communicated with the MF there was no open gate. In 1983 there was, plus at that point Henry Creel was in the UD with the MF. So we’ll see...
But back to the it wasn’t a coincidence theory
To sum up: the kidnapping scene breaks the pattern of the Demogorgon attacks, suggesting that Will is not like the other victims. The Demogorgon being a bit too quiet, almost “delicate” with him. The door opened with telekinesis. The clue of the light in the shed getting brighter and not flickering, like the lights in the Creel House’s attic where Nancy and the others find Vecna. So they only broke the pattern with Will. And after S4 I believe that the vanishing of Will Byers was different because someone in the Upside Down wanted him specifically.
Tumblr media
I think there have always been hints that Will has powers, but every time the writers gave us plausible explanations for the things he could do, like Truesight and the neck tingle: him surviving in the UD for a week in S1, and being possessed by the Mind Flayer in S2. Sure, it was strange that he’d managed to survive alone, for six days, in the Upside Down and that the Demogorgon didn’t kill him immediately. But with what we learned about Henry and the UD it all makes more sense...
Bonus:
S2 - Owens talking about the “virus” that was infecting Will (aka the Mind Flayer)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
S4 - Here he was talking to El
Tumblr media
Hm, but at the very beginning of the season we have this. Look at the poster in Will’s room. What could it mean? It’s a mystery!

I think the best way to experience Oz and Ozma's relationship is from Chaos route to Neutral route to Lawful route because it feels like you progressively dig into the layers of their relationship
Chaos route presents their relationship as a codependent one though mostly on Oz's part. He seems to cherish and idealize Ozma.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He goes as far as to project his feelings on Denam and Catiua, openly comparing himself to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And boy, does he project.
However Ozma appears strict and shuts him down. Still the route portrays a fun complicity between them as they seem to enjoy teasing Denam (about the torture his father endured).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During Neutral route, Oz is slain in Boed Fortress, early in Chapter 3. Ozma takes the role of the mourning sister, and, in turn, her feelings for Oz are put in the spotlight. And it's clear that this codependy is mutual when Ozma considers them to be two halves of the same soul.
Tumblr media
Now it's Ozma's turn to draw a comparison between their relationship and Denam's and Catiua's. But unlike Oz, it's no jest and while she likens herself to Catiua, it's only to differentiate their feelings and emphasize that her love for Oz and the grief she feels after his passing is beyond comparison.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ozma's behaviour is self-sacrificial, borders suicidal even. Usually driven by duty, the reason she defends Phidoc castle in Neutral route isn't because she's ordered to so that Lanselot may escape. She's staying behind to face her brother's murderer and avenge him, and she intends to die doing so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ozma can't consider the possibility of living without Oz. In hindsight, the differences in their death quotes on chaos route already hinted toward this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She thinks only of reuniting with Oz in death whereas he is stricken by grief, but immediately looks forward to celebrating the death of her killer. This leads me to think Oz could go on living without her (albeit not without heartbreak).
Now Lawful route subverts our expectations and gives their relationship a complicated twist. We learn of Ozma's former betrothal to her current fiancé's brother whom she believes died in prison after assassinating their father, but is in fact alive (and innocent). We also learn that Oz knew all along and worked alongside Balxephon to hide this from her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His apparent dedication to Ozma, as it's depicted on Chaos route, now appears rather superficial if he's willing to plot against her like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
More so, Oz seems to resent Ozma for the love she bestowed onto Hobyrim and the passion with which she fought to have him saved. In contrast, he doesn't seem to mind her current arranged betrothal to Balxephon (most likely because he respects Balxephon and knows Ozma's heart isn't in it). He's both controlling and punishing her.
Tumblr media
Lawful route also gives us a timeline in which Ozma's trust and confidence in her brother are shattered by the realization he was in cahoots with her fiancé who lied and used her.
Tumblr media
Throughout chapter 4, Ozma struggles with the pain this betrayal has inflicted on her and with the persistent love she feels for him still. After all he's done, her Chapter 4 death quote expresses relief that she may see him again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CODA Episode 4 develops this facet of their relationship further. Although Ozma confronts her feelings about her fellow commanders, Balxephon's and Lanselot's betrayal, and above all Oz's, she hopes to see her brother change his ways and live a long life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the other hand, Oz reveals just how depraved his feelings toward her actually are. He relishes the opportunity to see her in pain and unashamedly admits to it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the end, I don't think Ozma ever fully understood her own twin brother. She turned a blind eye to so much of what he did and so much of who he was. She thought of him as half of her soul and still showed she knew so little of that soul. There is a real tragedy behind it.
To discover their bond in order of Chaos - Neutral - Lawful is to be given one side, then the other, and to see the superficial before gaining some thorough understanding of how different these two are, and how different their love for one another is.
Personally I first play through Lawful then Neutral and finally Chaos, but I like to reflect on their relationship from this perspective nonetheless.

Many initial reviews of The Peripheral point out that the relationship between the main characters -- siblings -- is a highlight of the show. I want to sign under that statement with both hands. Flynne and Burton Fisher are dynamite.
Here be a review. With pictures
(because no one’s giffing this show yet, and I don’t know how ;) )
Burton is a gamer, ten years in the future, who gets people past difficult levels for money. The trick is that his sister Flynne is an effing genius when it comes to games, and sometimes (often?) it’s actually her who does the job.
Tumblr media
[ID: Burton, shirtless, sits in a gamer chair, VR glasses covering half of his face, a device the size of a cellphone in his hands. He’s inside an old, messy airstream.]
Tumblr media
[ID: Buton is still in his chair and still shirtless, some tattoos on his shoulders. VR glasses are transparent now. Flynne stands next to him, clearly angry.]
What I liked about that first interaction (in context of the whole episode, don’t get me wrong) is that they argue, Flynne is exasperated with Burton (I will get to the reason in the second part of this review). He blows her off, ignores her accusations and tells her to finish the level for him, because he “has to pee”. And she does it, sits in his chair and enters the game, grumbling that she’s late already.
That’s such a sibling dynamics.
And then we have it juxtaposed with this moment:
Tumblr media
[ID: Burton smiles]
“You know how proud I am of you, right? How good you are at this.”
Tumblr media
[ID: Flynn looks up (at Burton) with an expression better described below]
Just look at her face. That’s a little sister who’s craving for her big brother’s approval, and is happy to receive it. And he knows very well she’s better than him, and he’s not threatened by it. There’s love, right there.
And constant bickering.
“Far as I can tell, [in the game] you’re gonna be a version of me.” “I should probably act a little dimwitted, then.”
or
“I was actually in your body!” “Felt like an upgrade, I bet.” “No, it felt fucking weird is what it felt like.”
Too many to quote. There are serious arguments there too, and there is an attempt to bond, which I loved. But first, I gotta introduce the second thing that made me fall for this show.
#
Burton is ex-military (so I have a type, so?). But future military, which means he’s equipped with something called “haptics”.
Tumblr media
[ID: a closeup of Burton’s back, with a pattern of outlined shapes along his spine. Some lines end in circles the size of a dime, and some of those circles are blinking]
Those things are supposed to connect him with other soldiers in his unit, who happen to be his childhood friends (there’s an in-universe explanation for that) from the same small rural town in South Carolina. I don’t know if haptics enhance the soldiers’ physical abilities, but mostly the tool makes them act like one, and also allows them instant feedback from things like drones and whatnot. I won’t get into how it all works, the show does it better. ;) I’ll just say that those haptics cause pain.
Now, Burton and Flynne live with their mother (Flynne and Momma in the house, Burton in the airstream next to it), who has brain tumor and is also in a great deal of pain.
That first scene up there, where Flynne is angry at Burton, it’s her accusing him of stealing Momma’s pain pills (which are expensive and only accessible on black market because it’s ten years later... dystopia, much?). She later learns that in fact he was giving Momma his own pills, claiming that “he didn’t need them as much anymore”, when in fact he does need them. But Momma needs them more, right? And then Flynne apologizes for her accusations, and tries to get Burton to talk to her about all this, the pain and what he’s dealing with.
Tumblr media
[ID: Flynne sits in the chair in the airstream, she looks somewhat uncertain. Burton stands next to her, fiddling with the gaming gizmo.]
Of course Burton blows her off, they bicker a little, but it’s clear that he appreciates her apology. And appreciates her -- in general.
Just one more picture, from the next episode, when it becomes clear that the game is something else, and that it’s not as much fun as they’d initially imagined. Flynne has to go back in. She’s scared, but Burton’s right there, literally holding her hand.

[ID: Flynne in the chair, in the head-set, with Burton facing her and reaching for her hand]
That’s just episode one and a glimpse of episode two. There’s a lot more good in this show, not to mention the main plot and the mystery, which is mind-blowing. Really good stuff. I can’t recommend this show enough!
It’s only been three episodes so far, the fourth comes out tomorrow morning. I can’t wait!

Asoiaf - 8 9 10 and 11 for the ask meme!
8. Common fandom opinion everyone is wrong about:
It's time for my unpopular takes!!
Recently, I've seen fans accusing Ned of being a bad father for showing supposedly favoritism towards some of his kids and neglecting others. I know these takes come from specific stans who want to paint their blobos as suffering martyrs that everyone mistreated but still this misunderstanding of Ned annoys me.
Also I disagree with the popular take that Jon's quote on Val being a "warrior princess" makes him a. sexist b. someone who looks down on victims who need rescuing. The boy does everything in his power to help those in need and befriends people who are according to westerosi standards "weaklings". And he had said "the women are the strong ones".
9. Worst part of canon
The lack of good relationships between women. In a book where family bonds are on focus all the loving sibling duos are either two brothers ( ex. Jaime and Tyrion) or a brother and a sister ( ex. Jon and Arya). And the story don't focus on female friendships the way it does to male ones.
10. Worst part of fanon
Sun Dragons or whatever name Targaryen antis have given to Elia and her children.
Elia in the books: a kind minor character who died in a horrific way.
Elia in fanon: "It's called A Song of Elia and her kids and all Targaryen should die but let me tell you about Rhaenys being mother of dragons".
11. Any fandom related words that you've filtered
I think none? I should filter a couple of shipping ones, though.
Thank you for the ask!

twilight advent calendar day 5: what's one thing esme loves about each member of her family? (prompts here).
Oh boy, this isn’t the thing she loves most about each of them because I could write an essay about each character, but I’m going to try to keep this a reasonable length:
Carlisle: I think his support is monumental to her, and one of the reasons their first meeting stuck in her mind as it did. That was the first time in sixteen years someone didn’t dismiss her ideas and instead offered tangible advice and a personal anecdote that gave her hope. Then ten years later she firmly believes no one should have hope in her, hell she doesn’t have hope in herself at this point, and yet there he is.
Even when they were nothing more than friends he genuinely believed in her and was there pushing her toward those dreams and hope the world had long since crushed. This man has done the unthinkable, has been to medical school a dozen and a half times, is probably the best doctor in existence, and is genuinely impressed when she refinishes a dining table.
This is not to say he is the source of her self-esteem or that he’s blindly supportive and a great feminist (and is often called out for this by his wife, daughters, or granddaughter). He tells her when he thinks she’s being impulsive (like when she tried to end their relationship for the second time in one month) or when he thinks she’s making a regrettable decision. But the kicker is he ‘lets’ her, it’s her life to be impulsive with.
His support is freeing.
Edward: I think about the quote in Midnight Sun a lot, “Causing someone like Esme pain was truly inexcusable” and the fact he was the one who knew about Esme’s past first, albeit neither of them was thrilled about this. He’s very gentle with her, even in 1927 when he was throwing temper tantrums he made sure to never raise his voice at her. It’s to the point of patronizing at times but it’s often endearing. He is an idiot who cares about her so much.
Rosalie:  I have so many thoughts about these two, shocker I know.  Rosalie was Esme’s first female friend in over sixteen years and Esme was the only person Rosalie tolerated for two long years. They are close. Not only because of their unfortunately similar pasts, and forced proximity, but because they just get along. Rosalie was the first person to let Esme get angry over how her life turned out (wrote a fic of that here). She admires that Rosalie stands up for herself, to Royce, in everyday interactions, and especially to Carlisle and Edward. She loves that Rosalie will stand up for her in a way she feels she can’t herself.  There's a fierceness and passion to her that Esme is envious of and loves endlessly.
Emmett: Esme was terrified of him at first and kept her distance for a couple of months, pitching in when she had to but trying to stay away from the insanely strong, loud, stranger of a man living in her house. She slowly warmed up to him, mostly due to Rosalie’s insistence.
I think growing up on a hard-working farm and then getting a job as a single mom without a cent to her name, hated by society, to suddenly joining a family who could purchase any and everything without batting an eye, was at least a little isolating for Esme. Emmett understood this to a different extent and they really bonded over their backgrounds. Esme reminded him of his older sister in a lot of ways and Esme realized Emmett was a lot more like her late brother than her ex-husband. She of course loves the joy he brings to the family but she really loves that she can just be simple around him. She gets to be Esme Platt who climbed trees and got in schoolyard fights, not Esme Cullen the doctor’s prim and proper wife. They carry on each other’s family traditions, baking every year on Esme’s son’s birthday, a tradition his own mother had on her own heartbreaking anniversary. Emmett helps plant a garden and listens to all of Esme’s superstitions about crops.
Alice: This one is a hard one, to be frank. I think she loves how excited Alice gets about little human experiences like Christmas decorating and hiding eggs on Easter. She not only doesn’t remember her human life but she was on the outskirts of human society for so long that getting to experience those things herself was so exciting. (This is not backed up in canon at all but I’m struggling).
Bella: They bonded over Jane Austen at first, going to Pride and Prejudice (2005) in theaters together, which slowly expanded to other books, Bella’s jaw dropped when she saw Esme’s collection of clinch covers for the first time, it took her a few months but she eventually got through them all and they gossip about their favorites. Now Bella gets advanced reader copies of contemporary romances and after she reads through them she immediately mails them to Esme, annotations in the margins.
Renesmee: She loves seeing glimpses of the rest of the family in Renesmee, yes in her resemblance to her parents, but also the way she rolls her eyes like Rosalie or holds her books like Carlisle.

my apologies if this seems like im trying to start a fight i swear that is NOT my intention but as soon as i saw an ask disrespecting violetshine i had to throw in my two cents and defend her honor AKDKDKD
ofc anon is allowed to have their own opinion and i agree the writing in wc is misogynist as hell and violets romance w tree could have been written a LOT better. but i will Not stand here and let her be accused of not having motivations/not being complex when she is SUCH an overlooked character w an intriguing arc and parallels to her father hawkwing
violetshine was separated from her family at an early age and felt isolated from the rest of shadowclan due to her origin. right off the bat she developed a fear of being abandoned and clung to needletail as a sister figure. she struggled to fit in and would often go along w needles plans simply bc she didnt want to be abandoned. her relationship w needle overall is very complex and in many ways unhealthy but for better or worse needle was pretty much the only person she could rely on for feeling "loved." this mindset led to her lashing out at twigbranch on several occasions, as she resents her sister for (in her eyes) abandoning her, first when she leaves shadowclan after staying there temporarily and second when she leaves skyclan.
violetshine later develops trauma related to the loss of her loved ones, especially after she watches needletail die. she has frequent nightmares about it and blames herself, wondering if her family will still love her if they find out about what happened even though its clearly not her fault. tree, despite the rushed way their romance is written, is one of the cats who helps her find closure by summoning needletails spirit.
violetshine decides to stay in skyclan bc it gives her the two things shes always wanted most: family and a place where she feels she belongs. she develops a close bond w her father hawkwing, who is understanding and sympathetic to her trauma bc he too has experienced similar things when he was young. after the death of his brother and father, he also used to lash out at others, including cats he cared about, which is what allows him to comfort her after she lashes out at twigbranch for wanting to leave skyclan. their relationship is just. very special and important to me for personal reasons 🥺🥺🥺🥺
ANYWAY. theres a lot more BUT i dont want to fill this ask w even more autistic rambling AKSKSK all this to say: ur allowed to not like violetshine/not remember anything abt her BUT pls dont assume that she is poorly written/a result of the erins misogyny bc of that. i promise u she is so SO much more but the fandom often sleeps on her due to needletail abd sleekwhiskers popularity overshadowing her 😔😔😔😔
(also. for the quotes thing. obvs thats a more subjective thing and i dont blame anon for not knowing any of her quotes but. i actually already happen to have a list of quotes from her that rly hit me in the mental illness AKSKSK idk shes quotable to me at least :,) sorry if this is annoying. my violetshine autism was activated. this is actually just a Violetshine Appreciation Confession oops)
