i have such conflicting feelings about nyck's loosening grip on his raceseat.

tbh i wasn't rooting for him to go to f1 in the first place (not bc of haterisms i was concerned of the inevitable comparisions between f1 and fe) and i knew he'd have to be good off the bat to be taken seriously. i had hoped the showing in williams was a good sign, and if nyck really wanted f1 williams would be it. i've always rooted for one of several rb juniors i'm fond of to take the place at alphatauri, so for him to have it i wasn't quite happy about it? and also it was quite apparent that expectations on him would be higher in alphatauri than in williams because of the kids waiting in the wings.

it sucks that nyck is in this position but at the same time it is unfortunately on brand for something like this to happen if he flopped too much. but i don't want him to be swapped out rn? ofc its bad for nyck. but will putting liam/ayumu in that tuna can ass car help? in liam's case, i think it's best he completes the sf season. in ayumu's case, he doesn't even have a superlicense yet so i don't think that kind of pressure should be on him. yet at the same time i don't want nyck to do too well bc that means they might keep him beyond 2023. or that it won't reflect well on yuki anymore (fortunately yuki has done a great job so far so he should be fine.) so...???

You have no idea what you're asking for I literally have details across all 3 generations below the cut. I am not shitting you you will open this and immediately go "Oh. Yeah I don't care THIS much."

OK so it STARTS with the prequels except it actually starts WAY earlier in the 80s when team principal and manager Qui-Gon is doing some charity thing at an exceptionally shitty, low on money karting track and sees this kid just absolutely killing it out there and IMMEDIATELY offers to takeover as anakin's manager and get him the sponsors and money he needs to make it to single seater series. Baby Anakin of course accepts but - sooner rather than later - he has to relocate to europe with Qui-Gon to pursue it, but it'll totally be worth it because he'll be able to bring back money to his mother and the track and just! It'll be worth it! okay!

So then you have prequels era in the 90s. Anakin, youngest F1 driver ever, immediately signed to Jedi Order (they use order instead of racing kind of like ferrari and scuderia). Obi-Wan is his race engineer because honestly anakin and obi-wan and "What's the fastest lap?" "DON'T TRY IT" writes itself. Padme is the princess of Monaco and - on the downlow - one of the team's biggest sponsors bc she ALWAYS wanted to race but never got to pursue it because Sexism so now she lives vicariously through them. Clones = Pit Crew ofc but Rex is chief mechanic RAGING at anakin for trashing his beloved machines and Cody is head of race strategy. Qui-Gon is the worst team principal ever and Cody does 80% of the work like the hyper-competent boss he is. Ahsoka is in F3 she is BABY.

Anakin's main title rival is Mace - 8 time wdc looking to make it 9. Mace is ofc the well respected veteran looking to retire next year and he is SO fucking DONE with anakin "torpedo" skywalker driving like a maniac at him. He's w/ Shatterpoint racing and very invested in their junior academy, and Yoda is their TP. (Yoda USED to be TP for Jedi Order AND is the only man alive with the triple crown.)

Palps is the head of the FIA. Anakin's first championship and youngest ever wdc is massively overshadowed by dodgy circumstances in the final race. Mace AND Yoda retire in protest and begin a political behind the scenes takedown of palpatine. I think eventually they get Qui-Gon to come help them and Cody is fully team principal. There's growing corruption in the sport for the next several years and Anakin - without even realizing it - is just growing more and more distant from who he was, his home, everything he cares for. Like he sends ALL his money home to Shmi but he never has the time to visit her, he's wrapped up in all sorts of politics behind the scenes of racing, the GPDA seem to be conspiring against him, and he's just... he's tired. The corruption eats away at him. But he can't leave bc who is he without this?? Certainly not someone the princess of monaco could be dating.

Anyway EVENTUALLY due to blah-blah Anakin suddenly and dramatically retires RIGHT before beating Mace's record. Everyone goes wild, he talks about the corruption he was seeing and says he's going back to grassroots karting to help kids like him who didn't come from money and just want to race. Mace and co are finally able to oust palpatine as FIA president. Ahsoka is promoted into Anakin's raceseat. Anakin goes home (to texas, we decided anakin texas accent funny) only for padme to go after him and LOOK IT'S HAPPY OKAY! LET THEM BE HAPPY!!!!!!!!

Other Highlights from this era: Anakin's other rivals - Maul (Actually hates OBI-WAN because obi-wan's strategy call cost him a title once and he will NEVER EVER FORGIVE HIM it's actually kind of unnerving how little he cares about anakin and how much he hates his race engineer), Depa (Mace's apprentice, denies anakin like 5 wdcs avenging mace's last title), and Dooku (old wdc making a shocking comeback).

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL! THEN Luke and Leia inevitably grow up to be TERRORS of the racetrack. People say the Skywalkers have car DNA. People say Anakin made a deal with the devil. They are both in Jedi Order at first. Obi-Wan is STILL Luke's FUCKING RACE ENGINEER because there's no fitness or age limit on telling a driver to behave on your radio. Leia's biggest rival is Han they are like SO intense about it their first question after every race is whether they beat each other. They make out on the podium at least twice.

Han's teammate is chewie (his radio is max's radio. Impossible to decipher.) and his biggest sponsor is Lando who used to kart with him until he ran out of money and Han didn't and they had a brocedes style fallout over it - Lando went on to become a businessman bc not having the money Scarred him. Now he sponsors Han just so he can be like "i own you solo"

At some point Luke moves teams to partner Wedge (he wants to be his own person! he's been Leia's sibling since the day he was BORN!) Also every time they race at Monaco, Padme and Anakin wave embarrassingly at them.

Luke goes on to do all sorts of racing! Leia goes on to be a team principal and buys Jedi Order and rebrands it as Skywalker Racing. Poe and Jess drive for her and they are like "ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!" every race and Leia is on the radio screaming "BITE! BITE! BITE! KILL!" at them. Rey has a Brawn GP success story of a nowhere team suddenly winning the championship. FINN is a RED BULL JUNIOR style junior of Sith Racing, Skywalker Racing's biggest rival, promoted way too early to partner their star driver (Kyle), and treated like shit by them. He moves teams and becomes Rey's teammate the year after she gets the WDC. (Also Poe stares at him with the BIGGEST heart eyes ALL THE TIME and leia berates him for it bc when she had a crush on han she channeled it into BEATING HIS ASS ON THE TRACK not refusing to divebomb him at hairpins POE.)
