LIKE EVER? this is so hard wtf. i feel like a lot of my very Formative Works are um. not complete. theres the pacific rim magnum opus. theres obviously the faramir goes to rivendell au. those would probably be my real answers but WAIT CURVEBALL LOL ITS THIN SECTION. extreme throwback to my atla days. thin section is the best thing ive ever written hands down. the emotions that i got into in there.....whoo. and of course it's siblings with all my other long pianjeong fic which was really my proof to myself for the first time that a. i could write good, relatively long stuff without kind of petering out halfway through and b. My True Induction Into Rarepair Nation which obviously is like. well the main facet of my online personality now. anyway

yes two actually ! how much light you give (lovingly subtitled "closing the windows fic" in my heart) was born from come back...be here by taylor swift and two shadows burning out a glory day lived in my mind for a long time as the (titular) silhouettes by aquilo. huh that's amusing they're both for my obscure james bond rarepair. i guess that does make sense i do have an obscene number of playlists for them. well anyway. typical abby rarepairnation behaviour etc.

1 Story to be proud of & why:

When I’m made to choose I get stressed, but I am proud of Mommie Dearest. Especially with how the events of the last OH chapter played out, I liked that I gave Ethan the space and opportunity to be rightfully mad at his mother, and that she wasn’t apologetic and there wasn’t really a happy ending. Sometimes in life, no matter how much we want to see the good in people, sometimes they just aren’t

2 Stories that are most popular by readers:

Y’all enjoy smut, lol. But so do I that’s why I keep writing it Under My Skin & Green Eyed Monster are my two biggest fan faves in the OH fandom.

3 Stories with the best characters & why:

Resentment: Even though I try to go into everything I write with equal passion and gusto, and it’s always my intention to write the characters as true to canon as possible while simultaneously fleshing them out and adding context, I resonate with these versions of the characters the most. And there are so many moving parts, and it’s not all sunshine and rainbows which is usually my jam so it forces me to think. Ethan and my MC Naomi trade spots, he’s the one really trying to push their relationship and she’s more guarded. Plus the introduction of their parents which shape how I characterize them (Naomi especially, which I touched on in chapter 4. She grew up with a silver spoon in her mouth, with two highly educated parents and it’s a privilege that she knows not many black women in America can say the same and she’s hyper aware of it), and their relationships with other doctors (Zaid and MC’s scene in chapter 2 was my favorite, and seeing Ethan interact with MC’s friends)

Fracture Series for TRH: King Liam and my MC Queen Kendall being the smart bad ass monarchs I KNOW they have the power to be, PB just refuses to write it.

I love all of those stories for the same reason: I enjoy filling in the gaps between chapters, adding bonus scenes, and providing the depth that PB sometimes lacks. Especially for Aftermath. There’s no reason Liam should not have knocked someone’s head off their shoulders for pulling a Princess Diana and injuring his pregnant wife.

Cat & Mouse: It’s probably the only time Ethan will ever have the upper hand in his relationship with my MC.

Fire & Desire: Smut AND Ethan defines the relationship???? My brand

And They Were Roommates: Look, I’m Ethan trash down to the socks, but I adore pretty much everything about Bryce and he can have all of me tomorrow, okay?

Under My Skin: Is this story my magnum opus, because I keep coming back to it, and it is truly one of my favorites that I’ve ever written. Everything about it, their fight, the sex, their talk afterwards, Ethan admitting defeat.

Family: I miss the Mendez-Day family. Luz and MC’s relationship was so sweet and wholesome 🥺❤️

A song for world destruction as a ticking time bomb with a broken read out.)

Nox Aurumque - Eric Whitacre (I cheated a little bit on this one and used a different composer, albeit still a Latin choral piece. I liked that this piece had an eeriness to it that contrasted with the lighter nature of O Magnum Mysterium. Also the title translates to Night and Gold, which seemed fitting.)

Silver Peak - Lo-Fang (A song for Lukas. It took me ages to decide on one for him, and I’m still not totally happy with this choice. I feel like it captures the danger that his helping our party has put him in though, and the frenetic energy of everything that went down during the cult ceremony. I am so sorry that you got sucked into this world eater and blood hunter stuff. You’re a cool dude, and thank you again for the fork.)

1 Story to be proud of & why:

Scoundrel, Flirt, Fool -- I’m not exactly sure why I think this. for one, I wanted to write kind of a drawn out...seduction sequence and not even gonna lie, I nailed it lmfao. like, I’m sure I’ll take the same trope and top it, but I’m happy. I like the banter and the emotions here too.

2 Stories that are most popular by readers:

Last Time - this was like a QUICK little thing that sprang to my mind and I wrote it in like an hour. so while, I’m not sure I agree, I had fun listing to TiO by Zayn on repeat and its Ethan Ramsey so that’s why it took off lol.

Keep Up - the one-shot that spawned a Thomas Hunt series that is finally a hairsbreadth from being done and will by my choices magnum opus. I think ppl might actually be a little right about this one, i’m kinda proud of it (and the series) for lots of reasons.

3 Stories with the best characters & why:

(In general, idk if I’m great about keeping things in character, and sometimes I don’t care, but I think I did okay in these.)

A Good Night - I think I got Maxwell pretty good here. I dislike that he tends to be a bit of a...joke in fic. Yes, he’s goofy and silly and that’s here too, but he’s also a whole person.

Top Five - I think I got Levi pretty well here. He’s funny, and laidback, but he can also be quite caring and serious and sexy and I think that’s here too!

Come Back to Me - idk if I got Raleigh’s dialogue right but the body language seems right to me and that’s that on that!

I bought this old Raleigh when I was fourteen. It was absolutely HUGE on me. It cost me the grand sum of £40 and I rode it until it was falling to pieces. At school I used to get mega excited for the weekends as me and a couple of friends would organise these mega night rides. The night would start at my friends beach hut with a BBQ & Kayak. Bikes would be loaded with snacks. There was a lot of competition in the lights department....I think I had dual spots from the Argos catalogue 😂. Then, wrapped up, we’d disappear into the night. No real direction. Just good friends, empty roads and our bikes. Usually they’d run from around 20.00 - 03.00 and more often than not inc a pit stop at my mates house ( a strategically placed outpost for our epic adventure for hot chocolate and dog snuggles....he had a big German Shepherd that required constant cuddles...it was a service I was keen to provide ). Anyway, I ended up taking this bike to university until I had a nasty accident coming down a mega hill ( mudguard snapped on a bump, I stopped dead, over the handlebars and my entire bodyweight bent the forks back on themselves ). I went home that holiday, left the bike in my parents garden and decided that perhaps this was the end for ‘ Magnum ‘. However, my birthday that year my parents surprised me with the bike, sporting some recycled black forks. Well, seeing the effort they’d gone to in order to salvage my two wheeled hero was enough for me to stop sulking and I sent it to a renowned frame builder up north for a complete rebuild ( I was later told that when it arrived the guys said ‘ who on earth would want to revive this old piece of s**t 😂 ‘ ). I can’t blame them, I spent all my savings on it at the time. Two months later I rode John O Groats to Lands End on that same bike. Getting back in the saddle on these little local rides during lock down has brought back so many good memories. I’m always going from one place to the next but it’s nice just to stop sometimes and reflect. I’m mega grateful for this bike and the elderly gentleman who dug it out of the back of his garage for me. Oh. Car Craft’s Top 10 Rides From HOT ROD Power Tour

The 24th annual Hot Rod Power Tour concludes with another epic year of muscle cars, hot rods, rat machines, and classics on a 1,400-mile, seven-day road trip that wound through the South Eastern United States with stops in Bowling Green, KY; Chattanooga, TN; Birmingham, AL; Hampton, GA; Darlington, SC; Raleigh, NC; and Concord, NC. We were able to hop on the last two legs of the Power Tour to bring you our favorite rides.

Since Car Craft is all about DIY budget builds, we went after the machines built with blood, sweat, and friends, not with wallet-power alone. As you browse our top 10 favorite budget builds from the 2018 Hot Rod Power Tour, you’ll note that some of them are clean, and some of them are rusty, but they all share a common feature: they are driven.

Power Tour 2018 ended in spectacular fashion with upwards of 6,000 cars in attendance. Here’s to next year! Don’t forget the Car Craft Summer Nationals are quickly approaching, on July 20-21.

Clean Malibu

This satin-black Malibu is a clean, reliable street/strip car.

This 6.0L LS was formerly a truck motor, but now powers this Malibu around North Carolina.

This super clean G-body is a local drag racer to Charlotte, North Carolina. Mark Oden built this Malibu with a 6.0L LQ4 iron-block LS with a Comp cam, Holley mid-rise aluminum intake, and Holley 750 double-pumper.

A Ford 9-inch with 3:50 gears puts power to the track, although it’s only been down the drag strip five times. Mark’s best 1/8-mile time is 7.45 at 94 mph. He plans on racing more later this year: “I always wait until the end of the year so if I break something I don’t miss shows like this,” said Mark.

1973 Nova

The 1973 Nova isn’t as desirable as the pre-’72 models, and therefore cheaper, making it an increasing popular budget platform.

The friends nicknamed this car the “Swap-Meet Nova,” thanks to the assembly of parts found at local swap meets.

Some panels have holes in them where they removed rust, but didn’t have time to patch them before the Power Tour.

This Nova was built specifically for Power Tour by two friends: Larry Mahuri and John Daugherty. They thrashed to get their Nova done to be a part of the Power Tour Long Haul Gang. When purchased, the car had weeds coming through the floorboard, so they replaced the necessary sheetmetal and cut out the rest in order to make the deadline.

Powered by a home-built small-block Chevy, it’s a 383 using Eagle rods and a used 400ci crankshaft. FiTech Easy Street 600 bolt-on EFI takes care of fueling, and swap-meet parts like a mid-rise aluminum intake and Hooker long-tubes round out the engine package. The high 11.75:1 compression meant many bottles of gas-station octane booster.

Swap-meet tubular control arms help with handling, and a Ford 9-inch with 3:89 gears gets it down the road quick. The car had little issues during the tour, except some occasional spark knocking on the hot, Southern days.

1970 Le Mans

The racecar number on the doors is what caught our eyes with this ’70 model Pontiac.

The original Pontiac 350 was rebuilt right before Power Tour.

Jon Cushing and a friend recently freshened up this ’70 Pontiac Le Man for Power Tour. The original Pontiac 350 is backed by a Tremec TKO 5-Speed. Out back is a rebuilt Chevy 12-bolt with 4:11 gears and Eaton Detroit Trutrac limited-slip. The suspension is mostly stock except for an aftermarket front sway bar and adjustable upper rear control arms. A Right Stuff four-wheel disc brake kit gives strong, modern stopping power all around. The stance comes from 17-inch, circle-track wheels and 2-inch drop springs. The Pontiac’s engine only had 1,500 miles before Power Tour, and the friends have had zero issues. Here’s to plenty more miles!

1964 Chevelle

This Chevelle was formerly a restored driver before sitting almost a decade, then being turned into the drag car you see now.

This is the small-block Chevy found in the car when Jeff bought it. He’s since rebuilt it using forged internals.

Not as cheap as others on the list, this Chevelle has been passed around the same small town since new. In the late ’70s the original owner sold it to a neighbor in Wando, South Carolina. It was driven and then sat for seven years until the owner called the previous seller to see if they wanted the car back. Instead, it was sold to their friend, Jeffrey Madden.

The paint is original, minus the vintage drag-car graphics. The 350 features a Scat forged rotating assembly and is topped with Pro Max aluminum heads. Out back is a Ford 9-inch with a four-link… Of course there’s the roots blower sticking through the hood too!

Pontiac Sleeper

This Pontiac has made its owner Ben an expert on 3800-series V6 engines.

This is a home-made set-up filled with mostly junkyard and stock parts.

This 1982 Pontiac Grand Prix may surprise you; it’s a family car Ben Styx has been tinkering on since he was 14, now 27. Powered by the original 3.8L Series 2 V6, it’s now turbo-charged by way of a 56mm HX35 turbo stolen from a 12-valve Cummins diesel. According to Ben, this engine series is similar to that found in the coveted turbo-charged Grand National.

The engine has been worked over to accept E85. Fuel economy is still strong though (E85 requires more consumption than traditional octane) with 20 mpg during Power Tour. When Ben returns home to Detroit, he plans to continue upgrading the Pontiac. He has no dyno or drag racing numbers as of yet, since he recently finished it for Power Tour.

Pinto Wagon

It’s hard to spot the trick performance bits on this Pinto. A shortened rear bumper, 8.8 rear end and lumping idle are the only roadside giveaways.

The 2.3L engine has become a popular choice in circle-track mini stock racing as they were featured in many Fox-body Mustangs and Pintos, meaning there are still performance parts available.

Arguably the staff’s favorite pick from the Power Tour is this ’80 Pinto Wagon. Powered by a combination of parts that resemble that of the Fox Body-era SVO Mustang, the wagon features a turbocharged four-cylinder.

The 2.3L is topped with a ported and polished head, a Mega Squirt EFI, and an aftermarket cam and intake. The original turbo failed shortly before Power Tour, so a new Darrell Cox Racing T3/T4 turbo is sitting in its place. There is little in the way of underhood electronics, and owner/builder David Gallimore says there’s bad boost creep up to 14 psi. Out back is a Ford 8.8. His best 1/4 mile pass is 11.67! When the wagon returns home, David plans on making significant changes in hopes to jump into the 10s.

1968 Road Runner Clone

This road Runner clone has tons of character, due in part to the far-from-perfect body.

Eric did a great job cleaning up this Dodge van Magnum engine.

Real Road Runners are creeping up in price, so Eric Brinkley of Raleigh, NC, decided to build his own. He really had no other choice as this Plymouth Satellite has been his daily driver for a decade. He created a Road Runner clone (from a Plymouth Sport Satellite) and replaced the original 273ci with a 5.9L Magnum taken from a junkyard Dodge van. He drove the last two legs of Power Tour and continues to drive this Mopar every day.

G-Body Wagon

We were lucky to photograph this wagon while on its first pass.

This G-body Wagon drove up from Florida for the last day of Power Tour. With a freshly rebuilt 350 small-block, it features a strong shot of nitrous and drag radials out back. This was the wagon’s first pass on its fresh motor… and it was also its last pass for the day. The wagon experienced a fire mid-track, but luckily was able to drive home.

Mercury Capri

This is possibly the best use of truck bed-liner paint we’ve seen… outside of a truck bed.

This beautiful race-inspired custom dash in the Capri featured a total of 10 AutoMeter Gauges.

This first-generation Mercury Capri caught our attention due to a lumping idle and unique look. Using NASCAR-style parts like 15-inch mini-stock wheels and a giant cluster of AutoMeter gauges, the car has a circle-track vibe. The front air splitter is painted with truck bed-liner and the little bit of trim that remains has been blacked-out. The car was driven by a couple from Reno, Nevada.

1979 Malibu

This Malibu belongs to a Holley Performance Parts employee.

This was originally a back-up engine that’s now more powerful than the previous one.

Shade trees were a hot commodity when working on a car in the hot, Southern sun.

Keith Jesse’s ’79 Malibu looks like a budget build on the outside, but underneath it’s a real performer. After blowing-up a 6.0L LS, Keith replaced it with a Texas Speed 408ci stroker LQ9 engine.

The car sits on a RideTech G-body suspension with QA1 coilovers and tubular control arms. Inside the G-body is bare with two racing seats, a dash, and not much else. No air condition through the Southern states brought extra importance to finding shade where available.

Two UNC recruits among top five in latest Prep Hoops NC 2018 statewide rankings

Coby White and Rechon Black played together all summer on Chris Paul’s CP3 travel basketball team. After their senior years at Greenfield School in Wilson and Cox Mill High in Concord, the pair will team up in Chapel Hill.

The two UNC recruits are ranked No. 1 and 3 in the latest Prep Hoops NC statewide rankings for the class of 2018.

They are sandwiched around Providence Day All-American Devon Dotson, who is No. 2. Three other area stars are ranked in the top 10: No. 6 Jairus Hamilton of Cannon School, No. 7 Nate Hinton of Gaston Day and No. 10 Trey Wertz of Providence Day.

Hinton has committed to Houston. Dotson, Hamilton and Wertz are undecided for college.

Other area players ranked include: No. 14 Hunter Tyson of Piedmont, who is tied with United Faith’s Jaylen Sims. Gaston Day’s Quan McCluney, a College of Charleston recruit, is No. 21. Cannon’s Qon Murphy is No. 24 and Charlotte Liberty Heights guard Mike Wynn is No. 25. At No. 30 is Charlotte Christian’s Blake Preston, who has committed to Liberty. Kings Mountain’s Adrien Delph is No. 31; Lincoln Charter’s Kody Shubert, a Presbyterian recruit, is No. 33.

United Faith’s KC Hankton and Rafael Jenkins are No. 36 and 37. Butler’s Gerrale Gates, a New Orleans recruit, is No. 39.
