In 2022: My Chemical Romance performed their 26th show of the 2022-2023 Swarm tour in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. At this show, an unreleased song (titled "Everybody Hates the Eagles" on the paper setlist) was performed for the first time, and "Burn Bright" was performed live for the first time ever. Gerard Way wore a "New York Cockroach Actual Size" T-shirt, green camo print minishorts and a bloodied eyepatch. "FREE BUGS" was written on the drums. (🖤)

It’s the classic main character x friend who is a girl ship. They have no actual romantic interactions outside of their friendship. Ochako has “feelings” for Izuku, but they are clearly feelings of friendship until one of her friends insists that she must have a crush on Izuku, making her feel confused and embarrassed. Izuku clearly sees Ochako as a good friend, but when they first meet, he blushes and thinks “I can’t believe I just talked to a girl.” On the same day, he also blushes when he sees that a famous male hero is proctoring their exams. It’s literally so boring as a romantic ship. They have no chemistry as a couple.

Literally everything about the writing of Pacific Rim make it seem like they're setting up for a romance between these two and then they just. Don't. Despite this, "drift compatable" was one of the most popular AUs for couples after the film came out for a hot minute because of how romantic they made the concept seem. *gestures to the entire movie* seriously
jeff winger and britta perry:
the show starts off with jeff creating the study group so that he can get with britta, they serve essentially as narrative foils, with jeff not caring about people and britta caring too much about people, they nearly get married on THREE (3) separate occasions, they're secret friends with benefits for an entire season but break up when the group finds out, they're the only two people from the core group left in greendale when the show ends; but in the end they make jeff's "true love interest" the girl who was half his age when the show started (36/18)...
asuka tenjoin and yuki judai:
The ship name (fianceshipping) comes from the episode where Judai *accidentally* duels some guy to become Asuka's fiance (said guy never asks Asuka how she feels about this, ugghhh greater Duel Academia student body be normal about ladies challenge). Turns out that he *didn't know what a fiance was* and just wanted to have a good ol' time cardgaming. I think that this says more about this ship than anything else I could tell you. During the final season, Asuka almost confesses to him but cuts herself off & they then thank each other for giving each other some clarity of mind because they're both going through pretty rough times at that point in the plot. Looks concerningly like they're about to do a whole "ohh we need to make the main girl and boy romance out of obligation" bit and then they just don't do it. It's great. I have no idea if this counts because I didn't personally feel baited but I think they're very fun as a pair and I like them 🫡. judai is the gayest guy of all time (subtext) and im like 80% sure asuka was experiencing comphet bc he's the only guy in their grade that treats her like a person. besties 4ever!!!!!!!! straightmod has been informed that judai is also textually queer because he is canonically attracted to a non-binary character.
kwan and win:
This is a Thai teen drama that focuses on many teens going through hardships and it's very dramatic and very fun I love it so much THESE TWO. They circled around each other for two whole seasons and the tension was there!! He was a bad boy, she was a good girl, every time they spoke there was something in the air. They were both arguably the leads of an ensemble cast and it really felt like they were being set up to get together but then it just... never happens. This show has been out for 10 years and I'm still mad about it. THE WASTED POTENTIAL OF IT ALL

Like a lot of ships with a white man and a woman of color, their chemistry and history get shunted to the side by racist writers and fans who refuse to acknowledge them as anything other than friends.

I was tagged by the lovely Zahraa @willsilvertongue, thank you, dear - actually very similar to you, I realised that I had giffed more and more diverse things on this blog than I remembered doing. I did skip out the summer months due to a small thing called TUA S3, which kept the sideblog very busy, so I've added some more to the months where I actually giffed to publish on here
February: Martin Schelling vs the Mortifying Ordeal of Being Known (I'm still so pleased with how pretty these came out, even if they are for a fandom with very few people in it, for a piece of media I hold very dear to my heart)
March: an inexplicably popular Lego Batman Movie gifset (I have no idea why this has over 1k notes. Lego Batman and Joker seem to be that good, apparently?)
April: my best boy James Maguire embracing traditionally feminine things <33 (I love him. My boy.)
May: Billy Batson's biological vs his first found family member (I think this one is the one I'm proudest of, the comparison just works and found family always gets to me - I giffed Shazam all throughout April and haven't since, I should get back to it)

Survey: City is 5th among move-outs
Austin has ended up on a new top 10 list, and this time it’s not on one of those “best of” ones.
In its fourth annual report on U.S. moving trends, PODS Enterprises – the moving and storage company known for its portable containers – ranks Austin No. 5 among the top 10 locations people are leaving this year.
“Starting in 2020, the advent of remote work, Austin’s then-attractive housing market and the relatively low cost of living compared to major cities like New York and Los Angeles drove new residents to Austin,” Rich Schwartz, senior vice president of corporate operations at PODS, said in an email.

“Simultaneously, as more people moved there and the demand for housing rose, Austin home prices increased 60% from 2020 to 2022.
“As the moving trend continued and peaked in 2022, Austin was ranked the 16th most moved-to city that year on PODS’ Moving Trends Report,” Schwartz said.
“The home price increase necessitated a subsequent departure of residents from Austin, which can be attributed to Austin’s absence from PODS’ 2023 most moved-to list, and why Austin is now among the top cities people are moving out of.”
Schwartz said Austin “was a precursor to the trends we see in 2024, where areas that had seen an explosion in new residents over the past three years are being outpaced by smaller cities with a less expensive cost of living.”
In April, half of the homes in Austin sold for more than $593,500 and half for less, for a 6% increase in the median closing price from the previous April, according to the Austin Board of Realtors’ latest statistics.
Across the five county Austin region from Georgetown to San Marcos, half of the homes sold last month went for more than $469,998 and half for less, for a 1.1% increase in the median closing price, the board said.
In the past couple of years, apartment leasing declined in Central Texas due to slower migration and slower job growth.
That was coupled with a supply of rental units that exceeds demand, local real estate experts have said.
Austin’s tech sector has seen layoffs by companies including big firms such as Oracle, Amazon, Google and Meta’s Facebook, which experts say have contributed to slower apartment leasing and fewer people moving in.
“Job growth is continuing, but at a slower pace due primarily to layoffs in the tech sector,” Charles Heimsath, an Austin-based real estate market expert, told the Statesman last year.

As for population growth, the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos region is now No. 2 among U.S. cities with populations over 1 million after being first for 12 years.
However, the growth estimates still show “a continued trend of strong and rapid population growth for the Austin metro area even if we’re not at the very top of the list,” Lila Valencia, the city of Austin’s demographer, said in a March news release.

Where are people flocking to?
The report said the Carolinas accounted for 30% of the Top 10 U.S. relocation hot spots, while the Southern Appalachians are drawing those seeking a better cost of living and warmer climates.
“Last year, we noted the Carolinas were worth watching, and this year, they’ve not only taken the trophy as the number one spot for new moves but also broken a record,” Schwartz said.
For the second year in a row, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Wilmington, N.C.., took the top spot for move-ins in the PODS survey.
Raleigh, N.C., jumped 14 places from last year, coming in sixth in 2024.
“More Americans are calling the Southeast home with the promise of lower costs of living, an exceptional quality of life, an incredible food scene, easy access to nature, and vibrant metro areas,” the survey said. “This migration highlights the region’s broad appeal to those craving a more balanced lifestyle at a reasonable price point without sacrificing modern amenities and rich cultural experiences.”
The entire Southern Appalachian region is booming, “with droves of people seeking the ‘quiet life’ in states like Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama,” the report said.
The survey listed these cities with the highest number of move-ins:

Where are people leaving?
Schwartz said expensive metro areas are prompting Americans to move to cities and states with lower costs of living and more balanced lifestyles.
Los Angeles, Northern California, South Florida’s Miami metro and Long Island, N.Y., continue to see the largest population exoduses, the report said.
“While the draw to natural surroundings is a driving force, skyrocketing costs of living have proven equally influential in this lifestyle pivot,” the report said. “Exorbitant housing costs, overcrowding, and hefty tax burdens have become, for some, insurmountable challenges in these urban centers. As a result, many residents find themselves priced out and seeking reprieve from major cities. This mass relocation underscores the growing appeal among Americans in prioritizing access to nature and a more sustainable quality of life over the pace of city living.” PODS listed these cities as having the most move-outs:
1. Los Angeles (first in 2023)

The ship name (fianceshipping) comes from the episode where Judai *accidentally* duels some guy to become Asuka's fiance (said guy never asks Asuka how she feels about this, ugghhh greater Duel Academia student body be normal about ladies challenge). Turns out that he *didn't know what a fiance was* and just wanted to have a good ol' time cardgaming. I think that this says more about this ship than anything else I could tell you. During the final season, Asuka almost confesses to him but cuts herself off & they then thank each other for giving each other some clarity of mind because they're both going through pretty rough times at that point in the plot. Looks concerningly like they're about to do a whole "ohh we need to make the main girl and boy romance out of obligation" bit and then they just don't do it. It's great. I have no idea if this counts because I didn't personally feel baited but I think they're very fun as a pair and I like them 🫡. judai is the gayest guy of all time (subtext) and im like 80% sure asuka was experiencing comphet bc he's the only guy in their grade that treats her like a person. besties 4ever!!!!!!!! straightmod has been informed that judai is also textually queer because he is canonically attracted to a non-binary character.

This is a Thai teen drama that focuses on many teens going through hardships and it's very dramatic and very fun I love it so much THESE TWO. They circled around each other for two whole seasons and the tension was there!! He was a bad boy, she was a good girl, every time they spoke there was something in the air. They were both arguably the leads of an ensemble cast and it really felt like they were being set up to get together but then it just... never happens. This show has been out for 10 years and I'm still mad about it. THE WASTED POTENTIAL OF IT ALL

You can tell how long someone has been living in Raleigh by what they remember being on Hillsborough Street. When someone waxes on about the glories of Sadlack Lunch or drunken evenings at East Village, you know they've been here awhile.

One of the landmarks of Hillsborough Street's past was Sub Conscious. Perched on high the top of the stretch of road between Dan Allen and Gorman, the old sub shop earned a stellar reputation from old Wolfpac alumnus. However, the sub shop wasn't able to get through the pandemic closing their doors in 2020.

Eventually the Italian Kitchen of Raleigh took over the space but didn't find a solid footing. In early 2022, the business was sold and transformed into Bussin Pizza. Running this new pizzeria is a former owner of the original Brookside Pizza, which was a beloved local eatery that only neighborhood folks truly knew about.

To sustain some business during NC State's summer break, the pizzeria introduced a weekday pizza buffet. Lately, I have found myself longing for a quality local buffet. In the wake of COVID's devastation, the locally owned buffet seemed to be one of its causalities that haven't been able to find a way to resurface. Weekend brunch buffets have only been offered for special events and its harder to find a Indian lunch buffet now than before.

Upon arrival to Bussin' Pizza for its buffet, you are handed a sheet of paper listing about a dozen choices of slices to mark your order. After ordering piping hot pizza gets served to your table and the sheet for you to order more. This is a move that work better for their space and also the quality of the product.

The pizzeria's social media praises their Grandma pizza as famous. A bite of Bussin's Grandma pizza crunches as you sink your teeth into its square crust while chucks of tomato and herbs give it a distinct freshness. It was clearly the best slices of the offerings.
It be nice if Bussin Pizza is that next landmark that bridges the gap between NC State alumni and new students. If its grandma pizza is something beloved by old and new Raleighites. Because as the street and city changes, Raleigh could really use some more of those spaces.

The Ongoings of Life
Goodness it's been a hot minute since I've been on! I've been busy with life. I'm married now and going to be 30 in a couple of months. I dove head first into the world of make up and am enjoying the learning process. I've had such a confidence boost since I started using these products routinely!
We adopted a boxer mix August 7th, 2022 and she's been a very welcome member of our family. She's the perfect amount of mellow and active for me. She's one of the greatest snugglers and I'll probably mention her quite a bit. Her name is Annie! She has some separation anxiety so she ends up with my sister in law while I'm at work. We still have Raleigh and Riggs, they're almost 8 and 5. Oh, and Annie is 2. I'll post some updated pics here soon.
In my last post I talked about my PCOS and that's still ever present. As we approach our one year anniversary I've had several instances where I thought I may be pregnant but that hasn't yet turned out to be the case. I talk candidly about it Tibecause I want others to know they're not alone in their fertility struggles. I too am somehow inadvertently hurt when another baby announcement pops up but oh how joyous I feel for that celebration! I keep reminding myself we're only about a year into this marriage thing and even though we've been together nearly 7 years that doesn't mean we're yet equipped to have little ones of our own. Despite all of that I'm working on making changes and figuring out what I want for consistency in my life. I've made some new eating habits and that is progress.
We're also working on our financial health because it's been ill for a while. We're learning new things together. We're changing habits and I've been meal prepping and I actually sat down and wrote out a budget. All of this has made our money habits less stressful and more beneficial for us. The best part is, we're not doing it alone, we have people in our corner who are cheering us on and helping us.
