“…or for anyone who's ever been through shit in they lives, so they sit and they cry at night, wishing they'd die, 'til they throw on a rap record and they sit and they vibe. We're nothing to you, but we're the fucking shit in their eyes”

Westside Gunn - Pray for Paris I remember when this album came out in 2020 right at the start of the pandemic getting kicked out of my dorm and sitting in rural PA listening to this shit wishing I coulda been back up north smoking with my friends.
This thing is exactly why people who don't listen to rap music are missing out. This album is just amazing beat after amazing beat with Flygod rapping some of the hardest shit imaginable. This is a man who came up from nothing in fucking Buffalo New York. Selling, fighting, struggling, and now you can hear his whole perspective. A good rap album can totally transport you into the perspective or world of the artists who puts it all together. This one makes you sympathize and understand what is going on in Westside's world, and it fucking rules.
Absolutely, a great listen if you know nothing about Griselda or the modern NY rap scene. Lotta metal heads who listen to rap only listen to shit from the 80's and 90's and maybe like a few random guys from the 2000's like Ye. But the scene is just as strong as it's been in decades, and Westside is one of the most popular in a competitive as fuck scene, and that's for a reason. His lyrics are dense as shit, and he's not ass at picking beats and working with producers like another famous NY rapper some metal fans love to spout off about (Nas). He also isn't making shit up and creating a false persona about what he's done (Also something Nas did..). Essentially this shit rules. Listen to it.

#ONTHISDAY April 6, 1999
Aaliyah attends Nas' “I Am” album release party at Club Float in New York.
Track #8. "You Won't See Me Tonight" (featuring Aaliyah) .
Where were you when this track dropped?
July of 1999 the song reached #44 "Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs" charts and #21 on the Billboard "Bubbling Under Hot 100" charts. It stayed at #21 for 2 weeks.
DID YOU KNOW: Timbaland Sampled "You Wont See Me Tonight's" instrumental with Jerry Goldsmith's song "Underwater Grave" off the motion picture "Deep Rising".
It's sad this song didn't get a music video, but, it's understandable that Aaliyah was in high demand at this time. Mostly at this period, Aaliyah was working on her lines for her first film (and it's soundtrack) "Romeo Must Die"; Principal photography for RMD began on May 3, 1999 and ended on July 23, 1999 with the film being released March 2000.
How HOT it would have been if Aaliyah got in her bag with Egyptian like visuals for this video?

Conway the Machine - God Don’t Make Mistakes
Conway the Machine dropped another great album, but part of me wonders if this constant album release process, dropping 2-3 a year, has kinda stretched out some of the more intense energy and limited us getting classics. Like this album is pretty good! Solid production and flow. Pretty decent lyrics. But it feels so similar to their other work, of which there is so so many, especially if you include the entirety of Griselda’s releases.
Again, I do really enjoy this album. But what if Conway just took a year break to really make a lot of great music and pick the best of the best. Or what if he put out an album that told an overarching story or had an overarching thesis. It feels that a lot of these songs could be on other projects. I dunno just thinking out loud. Would love to hear what other folks thing!
