The Fierce And Broken
Pairings: Raven Reyes/ reader
Chapter: 2.08
Warnings: mentions of torture, and death
You watched as Raven, who was unconscionable, sobbed over Finn’s dead body. Your heart broke for her, and you knew nothing you said would comfort her, because nothing you said could fix this. In the same way Murphy was family to you, Finn was family to her.
Clarke came and stood beside you, saying, "I need to talk to her. We need to take his body now."
"What?" You asked, taken aback at what the blonde had just said. "I know that couldn’t have been an easy choice to make, but look at her." You pointed towards Raven, "This will break her."
Clarke looked down at the ground and spoke quietly, "I’ve chosen Octavia, Lincoln, and Bellamy as my attendants."
"And Raven?"
"Alba, the commander-"
You sighed. "Octavia and Bellamy have no more right to be there than Raven does. Just give her more time."
You brushed Clarke off and turned away. You knew by the look on her face that there was no getting through to her. Looking up towards your camp, you hoped to see Murphy or Octavia's faces, but no such luck.
"Like hell, you do! Get off!"
Hearing Raven's voice, you spin quickly to see Clarke talking to her. Did she ever listen?
You made your way over as Clarke faced her mom, "Give us a minute, please."
Ravens' bloodshot eyes meet yours, "You agreed to this?"
"We're taking him back to the village where the massacre took place, there's a death ritual. It's the only way to get our people out of Mount Weather."
Raven stood up, "Then I'm coming too. And don't worry, I'll bring your damn radio."
As Raven marched in front, you turned to Clarke. "If she’s going, then I’m going."
—
You all walk through the night and into the next day in silence. You were surrounded by grounders, all holding their weapons tightly, ready to turn on you at any moment.
"How is she?" Bellamy slowed his pace until he was standing beside you.
You look ahead and see Raven walking by herself. Occasionally she looked down at the radio in her hands, but minus that, she was staring blankly ahead.
"I’m worried about her."
He let out a sigh, "This whole thing is a mess. All we can do now is focus on getting our people."
"Yeah," you pause and return your gaze to the grounders, then to Bellamy. "Do you really think this truce is a good idea?"
He tenses up at the question, "We might have another way."
You had previously overheard hushed whispers about sending someone from your camp inside Mount Weather, and judging from the quiet tone Bellamy was talking in, you assumed that person was him. "How are you planning on doing that? I don’t assume the way we escaped is an option. "Bellamy looked at you surprised, "What?"
He shrugged, "Nothing... You're just the first person I’ve talked to who’s not tried to talk me out of it."
"Well, I can’t say I love the idea, but I think we should keep our options open. I’m not saying I’ll go with you, but I can try and draw a map for you of the area that I was in. That’s where our people will be."
Bellamy nodded, "Thanks." You continued to walk in a comfortable silence until Bellamy let out a sigh, "If things don’t work out, I’m going to ask Lincoln to show me the way in."
As Bellamy continued to discuss his plan, your worried gaze was drawn once more to Raven as she walked alone.
—
When nightfall came, Lexa announced that camp was to be set up for the night, and that you would leave for Tondc at first light.
Your people and the grounders slept on separate sides.
Clarke made a bold move by setting up her camp in the middle. You weren’t sure at this point if she was brave or insane, but regardless, you set your camp up not far from Octavia's.
As your eyes threatened to close with exhaustion, you fought against it. You needed to know Raven was back in the tent, and not in some kind of trouble. After what felt like hours, she finally returned, and she was pissed.
You sat up, "hey."
Raven responded by throwing her jacket onto the ground and letting out a grunt. "If Clarke asks me one more time about that damn radio!"
You didn’t know what to say. What could you say?"
Raven, I’m so sorry-"
"You know the worst part?" Raven asked with tears in her eyes. "She’s convinced it was the right thing to do. If this alliance doesn’t work, then Finn died for nothing."
Chewing on your bottom lip, you nodded in agreement.
A frustrated look crossed the brunette's face, "Don’t do that."
"Do what?" You asked. You watched as Raven paced back and forth, and repeatedly brushed her fingers through her hair.
"Go silent on me. Everyone’s been treating me like glass since…"
“Finn died."
She nodded, "I’m pissed, but I’m allowed to be pissed." He was my family, and now Clarke is calling the shots after taking his life, and tomorrow he’s going to be burned in the place that he killed innocent people. We don’t even get to say goodbye."
"Raven-"
She shook her head, and rubbed her fallen tears away with the back of her hand. "Let’s just talk about something else," she said before sitting down next to you. "Do you trust them?"
It was a hard question to answer. "I think the alliance will last as long as we are useful to them."
"And when we stop?"
"I'm not sure," you sighed. "They help us get people out while rescuing their own. Then when we become useless, the enemy again."
"It’s a gamble," she pointed out."
Let’s just hope it pays off."
Raven leans back on the ‘bed’ and turns to face you. "I’m scared for tomorrow, Al."
"I know, but whatever happens, we’re in this together."
—
The day had gone as you expected. As soon as the villagers see you, you’re all met with angry yells and curses in Trigedasleng. The commander was going to execute one of her people who stepped in front of her, but Clarke begged for his life to be spared. "The Sky People march with us now. Anyone who tries to stop that will pay with their life." You wondered how long that would last.
Lexa approaches the pyre as Finn’s body is lifted from the cart and onto the top of it. Lincoln translates for your people."People of Tondc. In fire, we cleanse the pain of the past."
When Lexa is handed a torch to light the pyre with, she lowers the torch to light the fire but pauses, and then turns to Clarke. Raven, let out a small gasp as you release what the commander is asking her to do. After a few uncomfortable moments, Clarke lights the pyre on fire.
You squeeze Raven’s hand. She looked emotionless as she watched Finn's body burn, but you knew it was killing her on the inside.
—
You stand behind Raven and Bellamy, as you are led into a large room to have a feast. Clarke, Lexa, and the rest of her chosen grounders were already inside waiting for her. You couldn’t put your finger on it, but the air was charged with electricity. Something could happen at any moment.
When everyone is seated, Kane presents a bottle of liquor as an offering to the commander. "Please accept this gift, Commander. We drink this on special occasions. I believe this qualifies."
Lexa nods her head before gesturing for Gustus to take the bottle from him. "Thank you, Marcus of the Sky People."
"You’re welcome, Lexa." He pauses for a moment before continuing, "kom Trikru."
Lexa turns to the blonde seated next to her. "Clarke, let us drink together."
"It would be my pleasure."
A villager grabs two goblets and hands them to Gustus, who stands at Lexa’s side, and once it’s poured, he glances down at the cup. "Heda, allow me."
Gustus takes a sip of the drink to make sure it’s not poisoned, and when nothing happens, he hands the cup back to his heda. Lexa accepts it with a small smile. "Tonight, we celebrate our newfound peace. Tomorrow, we will plan our war. To those we’ve lost, to those we shall soon find."
Clarke raises her cup as well when Gustus suddenly collapses. He chokes out, "Poison. It’s poison!"
Chaos quickly erupts. Grounders reach for their weapons and shove the table out of the way. Clarke yells out, "This wasn’t us! You have to know this wasn’t us!"
Lexa gives a command to her people in Trigedasleng, and before you know what’s going on, you are all pulled in separate directions to be searched. Clarke tried to plead with the commander, but it didn’t work.
"Tell me something, Clarke. When you plunged the knife into the heart of the boy you loved, did you not wish that it was mine?" Lexa’s voice was laced with venom.
With all your attention on Clarke, you missed Gustus patting down Raven. "Heda!" You all turn towards him, lifting a vial into the air. "This was in her coat."
"I’m telling you it’s not mine! He put it there when he searched me!"
"She’s telling the truth!" You stepped forward, but came to an abrupt halt when a grounder held a knife to your throat. You looked towards Lexa, "she didn’t do this!"
Lexa looks at your people. "No Sky Person leaves this room!"
The commander turns and abruptly leaves the room. The grounder holding a knife to your throat thankfully left as well. You stood panting as Clarke made her way towards Raven. Fuck.
"Raven, I need to know the truth."
Your heart races as you hear Raven mumble, "I’d step back if I was you."
Clarke ignored her warning. "You wanted me to kill Lexa yesterday. If you tried to poison her, I need to know."
Raven says nothing, just pulls her arm back and punches Clarke. "You’re the only murderer here!"
You step in front of her before she can throw another swing. "Stop," you said quietly. "It’s not worth it."
You were surprised when she nodded in agreement and stepped back. You look over your shoulder or see Clarke glaring back in your direction before her mom rushed over to her.
That was the difference between them. Clarke always had someone watching out for her Raven didn't.
You both leaned against the wall and slid down to the ground, trying to digest everything that had happened. Kane’s echoing voice soon reaches your ears. "So, let’s figure out who did it. Who would want her dead?"
"Too many to count," Lincoln says as he rises from his seat. "Forming an alliance with you was a risk, especially after what Finn did to this village."
"So, it had to be someone trying to break the alliance," Octavia points out.
The door suddenly swings open as multiple grounders enter the room, and you and Raven stand once again. Before two guards march forward and try to grab Raven, Indra barks orders in their language.
You step into their path, arguing, "She didn’t poison anyone!"
"I argued for all of you to die," Indra scoffs. But the Commander is merciful. She wants only one."
"She’s innocent!" You argued. "You can’t do this! She hasn’t done anything wrong!"
Indra yells, “I don’t care! They move, they bleed!”
You all try to stop them from getting to Raven, but the guards easily overpower you and start dragging her away. Indra looks you directly in the eye and says, “The rest of you are free. When she is dead, so is the alliance. You should run.”
“Raven!” You scream while running outside trying to find her. “Raven!”
Not sure which way to go, you follow the others to the centre of the village where Raven was being tied to a post. No, no. This couldn’t be happening.
“You need to stop this!”
Lexa approaches Raven. "I take no joy in this, Raven, but this time justice will be done."
"I didn’t do it. How is that justice?"
"We have to do something!" You try to go towards them, but Kane holds you back.
You scream out, begging the commander to stop as the commander slices her knife along the underside of Ravens' arm. Kane pulls you tighter as screams of pain reach your ears.
Clarke reapers and yells out that she needs to see the bottle again. She turns to face the commander and says, “One of your people tried to kill you, Lexa. Not one of mine. I can prove it.”
When she gets a hold of the bottle, she takes a drink, but nothing happens. One of the commander's own people tried to kill her. You call out, “The poison wasn’t in the bottle, it was in the cup!”
Bellamy moves closer as he locks eyes with Gustus. “It was you. He tested the cup. He searched Raven.”
Lexa’s voice is stern. "Gustus would never harm me."
You shake your head, "you weren’t the target, the alliance was."
Lexa looks genuinely shocked for a moment before she turns to face Gustus. "This alliance would cost you your life, Heda. I could not let that happen."
"This treachery will cost you yours. Put him on the tree!"
Raven is cut down to make room for Gustus. You quickly run to her side and help her stand up. She leans into you as the cutting begins. With tears in her eyes, she turns to face Clarke, "This would have been Finn."
"Yu gonplei ste odon." Lexa delivers the final blow, and puts her knife through his heart.
—
"Sorry," you sigh.
Raven grinds her teeth but nods for you to keep going. You try your best to clean her wounds without causing too much pain, but it’s impossible to avoid.
"I can’t believe Jackson let you take so much medical stuff with you," she said while inspecting the bandage on her arm.
"He didn’t."
She let out a snort, "He will freak."
Happy that her cuts are clean, you pack your stuff away before leaning back. You sit in a comfortable silence until Raven breaks it. "Thank you for today... I’m glad you came."
"I’m glad I came as well."
Life on earth was about to get much harder, and you and Raven would still have some issues to work through. She would need time to grieve for Finn, while you needed to deal with a pissed-off Murphy when you returned. He definitely wouldn’t be happy that you left with her after she pulled a gun on him, which was also a conversation you would need to have with her at some point. But for right now, you were all safe, and that was the main thing.
Raven shot up fast, "Did you hear that?"
"Hear what?"
You leaned in as Raven held the radio up to your ears. After a few moments, a voice came through.
‘This is Jasper Jordan. 47 of us are trapped inside Mount Weather. They’ve taken Harper. We don’t know how much time we have left. Please hurry.’

I Am Becoming Death {1X10, part 2}
SMUT ALERT!! If you want to skip it, don't read when you see this symbol (**) Enjoy!!
‘’ There's five to a clip. Let's go. We need to get these guns on the wall.’’ Bellamy ordered as me, Raven, Jasper, Monty and Harper worked on getting the guns ready. There isn’t a cure to this fatal virus. The grounders used it to weaken us and they are attacking tomorrow morning.
‘’ Why just five?’’ Monty asked confused.
‘’ We're running out of gunpowder.” Bellamy informed casually and I rolled my eyes.
‘’ Oh, we're so dead. Maybe we should just give up.’’ I said sharply and Jasper turned to me with a playful smile, making me raise my eyebrows.
‘’ Don't worry. I got your back.’’ He flirted and I heard Bellamy growled from beside me.
‘’Hey watch it!’’ Bellamy warned him and I took his hand and gave it a quick squeeze. Jasper looked at Bellamy bored.
‘’You don’t tell me what to do.’’ Jasper said glaring at Bellamy and he of course glared back. His jaw clenched a couple of times.
‘’ Hey, guys, stay focused. We're doing good. We need as many rounds done by dawn as we can.’’ Raven said, looking between the two of them. They continued to glare at each other without doing anything. I snapped my fingers angrily and I glared at Bellamy and Jasper.
‘’Back to work.’’ I ordered them and they get back to work with one final angry glare. Suddenly the tent opened and Finn entered.
‘’ It won't matter if there's no one left who can shoot. What do we need to build a bomb?’’ Finn asked quickly looking at Raven at the end.
‘’ Depends on what you're trying to blow up.’’ She said confused. Where he was going with that?
‘’ How about a bridge?’’ Finn asked with a small smile.
‘’ What are you talking about?’’ Bellamy asked him, kind of irritated if I may add.
‘’ Murphy says he crossed a bridge on his way back here from the Grounders' camp.’’ Finn informed us, before turning to Bellamy.
‘’ Sound familiar?’’
‘’ Yeah. So what?’’ Bellamy asked, sounding more irritated.
‘’ So the virus is fast. He's already getting better. Blowing the bridge won't stop the attack, but the longer we can delay it, the more of us will be able to fight.’’ Finn had a good point, but I don’t think his plan was going to work.
‘’Finn. Even if Murphy is telling the truth’’ I started, doing air quotes when I said ‘if’
‘’and that's a big if, that bridge has survived a nuclear war and ninety-seven years of weather.’’ I finished shaking my head softly.
‘’ It won't survive me.’’ Raven said confidently. Oh boy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So Bellamy left with Finn, Jasper and Raven to get the liquid hydrazine from the drop ship explosion. I decided to stay with Octavia at the dropship and help the others. About 2 hours later, 4 delinquents brought in another figure. When I saw who it was, my eyes widened and I gasped. I felt my throat tightening and my mouth become dry.
‘’ Bellamy.’’ I whispered shocked.
‘’ Clear some space. Lay him down.’’ I ordered quickly, trying to stay as calm as possible. They laid him on some makeshift bed and he immediately started coughing blood.
‘’Move!’’ I yelled, rushing to him and turning him to the side, patting him on his back. When he finished I turned him on his back again, I took his head in my hands and I looked at him with tears in the corner of my eyes.
‘’Jas… I’m scared.’’ He admitted and my heart cracked a little bit. I caressed his face lovingly.
‘’I’m here Bellamy. I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere.’’ He nodded and I saw tears falling, making me cry too. I didn’t want him to die. This moment I realized that I really loved him. I really loved Bellamy Blake.
‘’Octavia, I need something to clean his face with.’’ I said quickly, wiping away my tears, looking at Octavia. She had tears too scrolling down her face.
‘’ Hey big bro. I won't let anything happen to you, I promise’’ Octavia said as she cleaned his blood from his face with a wet cloth. Bellamy smiled weakly, before coughing up more blood, making me and Octavia panic even more. She patted his back, making him throw up more blood.
‘’ That's what I said to you the day you were born.’’ He told his sister with a small smile.
‘’ I know. You told me that, like, a thousand times.’’ She said, nodding her head. Bellamy put his hand upon hers and looked at Octavia.
‘’ I'm glad you're here.’’ He admitted and I smiled at them. They absolutely loved each other, but Bellamy is over-protective and annoying sometimes, may I add and Octavia doesn’t like that, at all, so they are always arguing.
‘’Octavia, we need you!’’ Someone shouted and Octavia let out a small sigh. She looked at me as she was asking permission to go and I nodded. She looked one last time at Bellamy and after she left. He looked so fragile with pale skin, sweat, tears and blood all over his mouth. I took the wet cloth beside his makeshift bed, swiping his mouth with it gently. I could feel his eyes on me all this time. When I finished cleaning up his mouth, I finally looked at him.
‘’ Get some rest Bellamy.’’ I told him, caressing his face softly. He took my hand weakly, moving his thumb across the palm of my hand.
‘’I don’t want to close my eyes.’’ He whispered, making my heart tightening a little bit more.
‘’Why not Bellamy?’’ I asked him, my voice cracking, using my other hand to stroke his hair.
‘’I don’t want to close my eyes and never open them again, Jasmine.’’ He whispered and his voice sounded so weak. I took my hand from his hand and I stopped stroking his hair. I went behind him and I took his head, placing it gently on my laps. I took his head and kissed his cheek.
‘’ Bellamy I’m not going anywhere. I swear it. And you’re not going to die. You’re not going to get rid of me, so easily’’ I said trying to lighten up the atmosphere a little bit. He let out a small laugh and looked up at me.
‘’ Jasmine, I’m so lucky to have you by my side.’’ He said, closing his eyes. I started stroking his hair with a small smile until Bellamy fell asleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
‘’Get the hell away from me!’’ I heard a familiar voice saying as I was checking some girl’s pulse. I turned my head in its direction and I saw Bellamy slapping away the cup of water Murphy tried to give him. I let out a sigh of relief seeing that Bellamy was alright.
‘’Bellamy you’re sick. I’m just trying to help.’’ Murphy said trying to convince him. I saw blood starting to drop from his nose and Murphy took a cloth, trying to offer it at Bellamy, but he just starred at it.
‘’Hey Murphy, I got this!’’ I exclaimed as I approached them. I took the cloth from Murphy and got on my knees. I gently wiped away the blood, smiling at Bellamy and he smiled back, before glaring behind me, at Murphy.
‘’When I get better, if you’re still here-‘’ Bellamy started, but I cut him. We didn’t need any more fights at this moment.
‘’Bellamy, please. Stop” I begged him weakly. He looked at me and he let out a sigh. I took the mug from Murphy with a forced smile and a got a genuine in return. Murphy left as I sat beside Bellamy, giving him the mug. He drank the water in one shot and swiped his mouth with his sleeve.
‘’ How are you feeling?’’ I asked him as he took my hand in his.
‘’Relief that I’m not dead.’’ He replied half joking and I slapped his upper arm playfully.
‘’I wouldn’t let you die. I told you that.’’ I told him seriously and he looked deep in my eyes.
‘’I know. I know that.’’ He said and he kissed the back of my hand.
‘’Have you seen Octavia?’’ He asked me and I nodded.
‘’She’s asleep. She helped me a lot last night and…She gave Murphy a break.’’ I answered. He glared at the direction that Murphy left.
‘’Don’t tell me you trust him now.’’ Bellamy scowled and I shook my head.
‘’Trust? Not even close. But, I believe in second chances.’’ I said, glaring at him. Bellamy had a lot of second chances. Murphy deserves them too. He looked at me before looking away.
‘’It’s almost dawn. We better get everyone in. If we lock the doors, maybe the grounders will think we’re not home.’’ He said and I looked at him with raised eyebrows.
‘’Not everyone is sick Bellamy. ’’I informed him and he rolled his eyes.
‘’I know Jas, but better sick than dead.’’ Oh now I understand where he’s going with that.
‘’You don’t think Finn and Jasper are gonna pull it off.’’ I said with a fake offended voice.
‘’Do you, Angel?’’ he asked me with a pointing look. I took a moment to think. Then I got up and gave him a kiss on his lips.
‘’I’ll get everyone inside.’’ I said and Bellamy gave me a small smirk.
‘’Why? I thought you trusted them.’’ I heard Bellamy saying and I turned around to glare at him.
‘’Asshole.’’ I said and he laughed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`~~~~
Αs Bellamy, Clarke and I were watching as everyone piled in the dropship, a loud explosion was heard in the distance. Bellamy tightened the grip he had one my right hand.
‘’Τhey did it!’’ I exclaimed in disbelief. I could not believe that they did it. I looked beside me, on my right and I saw Clarke looking at the huge cloud of grey some in disbelief, just like me.
‘’I am become death. Destroyer of the worlds.’’ Clarke whispered
‘’It’s Oppenheimer, The man who built the first -’’ I continued her sentence as Bellamy didn’t let me finish it.
‘’I know who Oppenheimer is.’’ Bellamy said and I saw from the corner of my eyes that he rolled his eyes. I shoved him playfully and I turned to him. I leaned up on my toes, pressing a soft kiss to his lips, only for him to kiss back eagerly as his hands found my waist. I pulled back and I shyly looked the delinquents behind me. Everybody was looking at us. Bellamy noticed them too looking.
‘’Go inside the dropship!’’ he ordered and everybody started moving inside. Clarke gave me a small smile before leaving us.
‘’I’m glad you’re alright.’’ I exclaimed unexpectedly for the 40th time or so and I hugged him tightly. He hugged me back almost instantly and I leaned up on my toes, resting my head on his shoulder.
‘’I’m glad too Angel.” He said against my neck and I felt shivers running down my back. I kissed his neck softly and his breath became sharp. I smiled and I looked at him innocently as he glared at me playfully.
‘’What?’’ I asked innocently, playing with the zipper of his jacket. He shook his head and gave me a full kiss on my lips and I wrapped my arms around his neck.
‘’You’re gonna be the death off me Jasmine. I swear.’’ He said, making me blush.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
‘’It’s them! They’re here!’’ Harper screamed as she was patrolling.
‘’Open the gates!’’ she yelled excitedly. Everyone started cheering and clapping their hands as Monty and Jasper walked into the camp. As Jasper passed me, he winked at me and I waved my hand at him. Monty smiled at me and I smiled back. Seconds later Finn followed, helping Raven walk. She was extremely pale with dry blood over her nose and mouth. She had the virus. I saw Clarke froze from behind me and I could feel her sadness. I touched Clarke’s arm gently and she looked at me. I nodded at her.
‘’You got this.’’ I smiled at her sadly and she nodded.
‘’I got this.’’ She said at Finn as she approached and he followed her into the dropship.
‘’Hey Jas!’’ Someone said and I turned around.
‘’Hey Jas!’’ I laughed, saying the same thing at Jasper. I just realised that we have the same nickname.
‘’You did it! Thank you for saving everyone.’’ I congratulated him with a smile and I saw his cheeks changing color. They became red.
‘’Thanks.’’ He replied and an awkward silence began. As I went to leave, Jasper talked.
‘’So you and Bellamy.’’ he said and I smiled at the mention off his name.
‘’ Yes we’re a couple.’’ I saw Jasper’s smile fall.
‘’You know that he’s not the best guy in the world. He will hurt you.’’ Jasper ‘warned’ me sharply and I rolled my eyes.
‘’Don’t worry about me, go talk to your groupies, they were waiting all day to see you.’’ I said sarcastically and I pointed behind me. Some girls were giggling, looking at him and whispering. Some girls even glared at me.
‘’What? You’re jealous?’’ he smirked and I looked at him blankly.
‘’ No, but I have one quick question. When did you become such an arrogant person?’’ I asked him with a serious face. His smirk fall.
‘’ I warned you Jas.’’ He said before turning around and going to his groupies. I rolled my eyes one more time, before deciding to go take a nap.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was sleeping in mine’s and Bellamy’s tent peacefully when I heard a loud noise. I woke up quickly, looking around me, trying to find the source of the noise.
‘’Sorry Angel.’’ Bellamy said apologetically taking the gun from the ground and putting it in a corner. I guess it slipped off his hand and that was the loud noise.
‘’Did I wake you up?’’ He asked and I looked at him angrily.
‘’I’m so sorry Angel.’’ He apologised again and he undressed himself, keeping his boxer only. I blushed a little bit, kind of not used Bellamy taking off his clothes. He smirked as he noticed my blush and I grimaced at him, resisting the impulse to stick out my tongue like a five-year-old. I looked away instead. He took a few steps and got in the bed beside me. Instantly he opened his arms and I launched myself into them, wrapping my arms around his neck tightly, ending on top off him. Minutes later, I started moving around, trying to find a comfortable position and I heard Bellamy let out a sharp sound as he took my waist tightly and stopped me. I froze, trying to understand what’s wrong.
(**)
‘’Stop moving Jasmine.’’ He kind of growled, making me smirk, finally understanding why.
‘’Why Bellamy?’’ I asked him with an innocent smile and he glared at me. I pulled myself closer to him, my legs were laying on the outer side of his. Now I could feel his excitement, making me excited. I took the decision to do something rebel. I rubbed my crouch against his boner, causing his breath to become short. He slightly winced and closed his eyes. Suddenly I stopped moving and that made him open his eyes and looked at me in shock. I looked up at him and I saw him looking from my eyes down to my lips, my mouth was already slightly opened. He leaned in and grabbed the back of my head. He bit my bottom lip, making me moan and I felt him start grinding, making me let out a loud moan. I felt him smirking and he pulled back, starting kissing my neck and I gasped, loving the way his kisses felt. In one move, he had me underneath him, causing me to let out a small surprised yell. He smiled and looked me deep in the eyes. I noticed his eyes were a bit darker than usual and his pupil dilated.
(End of smut)
‘’Jasmine I have something to tell you.’’ He whispered, his face inches off mine.
‘’What?’’ I gulped, fearing the worst.
‘’If … If I have died today, I would have regretting one thing.’’ He whispered again, looking serious. I nodded slowly my head for him to continue talking, but he didn’t. I cleared my throat and asked.
‘’And that is?’’ He smiled and caressed my cheek lovingly and I leaned on his touch.
‘’That I love you. ‘’ he admitted and my eyes widened, almost falling out of my face.
‘’Come again?’’ I asked stupidly and he let out a small laugh.
‘’I said that I love you.’’ He repeated and I smiled. A big smile. I took his face and slapped my lips to his. I never thought that he would say these 3 words. I was kind of in shock.
‘’I love you too Bellamy” I said once I broke the kiss and he grinned.
‘’ I know Angel.” He said smirking and I slapped him playfully.
‘’Douchebag.’’ I murmured and we both smiled at each other, rubbing our noses gently together as our foreheads collided, resting on one another. He took my hands in his and put my hands, above my head and looked at me seductively. He was about to kiss my neck, the spot that makes my knees go weak, but someone entered our tent.
‘’Jasmine!’’ Octavia asked desperate and stop dead when she saw Bellamy on top off me. He growled under his breath, not happy that someone interrupted us. I pushed him and he almost fell off the bed.
‘’Octavia?’’ I asked her concerned. She looked like she was crying.
‘’Jasmine I need to talk to you.’’ She told me and I could see her blush. I nodded and I kissed Bellamy goodnight.
‘’What? You’re not sleeping here tonight?’’ he asked me with a frown. I shook my head taking a glance at Octavia. Something must be happening with her and Lincoln and I know that she needed someone by her side.
‘’Octavia. Were you crying?’’ Bellamy asked his sister as he looked at her. She looked at the ground and shook her head. I touched Bellamy’s hand gently, making his attention to turn to me.
‘’I will deal with that. I love you Bellamy’’ He nodded and smiled at me.
‘’I love you too Angel.’’ I smiled back and got out of bed. I took my handmade pillow and I walked outside with Octavia by my side.
‘’What’s wrong?’’ I asked her whispering once we were outside the tent. She shook her head and fresh tears started falling, making me feel sad.
‘’ Not here. In my tent.’’ She cried and I nodded sighing. I rubbed her back as we were walking towards her tent.
Jill smiled as Harper finished bandaging her wrist. She had tried to do it herself, however the blonde saw her struggling and offered to help. Jill didn’t know much about Harper but she liked her, and she was grateful that somebody besides from Murphy, and Octavia didn’t seem to be scared of her.
Ever since Jill explained to Bellamy that she stabbed a grounder in the neck, the dirty looks and whispers about why she got locked up had started again.
Murphy glanced into the tent and felt a mixture of emotions. Jill was putting on a brave act in-front of some girl, but he knew she was breaking on the inside. Murdering someone didn’t leave you with a good feeling, but he could live with it. Connor had it coming, and so did the grounder who tried to kill Jill but she didn’t understand. He waited until Harper left the tent before entering to see Jill.
“I’ll be out to start my shift in a minute.”
“It’s fine,” Murphy shrugged. “Bellamy and his followers are planting foxholes outside of camp.”
Jill frowned, “What? Why aren’t they looking for Clarke, Finn, and Myles? They should be the priority!”
“Myles is back.” Murphy’s eyes trailed from her cracked lips to her tired eyes, and he felt a pang of pity for her. He needed to do something. “I need to go and take care of some things.”
“I know that look, please don’t do anything that will get you into trouble.” Murphy smirked at the comment. “I know a lot of shit has happened but we need to talk about it at some point.”
“I’m not really in the mood for couples therapy at the moment.”
Jill stepped towards him and held onto his hands and spoke in a low voice, “we both killed someone. I understand why you did it but I’m scared. I’m scared for you because I can’t lose you again.”
“You won’t, I promise.” Reluctantly he let go of her hands and started to leave. Seeing Jill’s face was making his plan for revenge so much harder. “Whatever happens I’ll always come back to you, just remember that.”
“John?” Murphy turned back to face Jill who looked more concerned than before. “Is everything okay? You can tel-”
“It's all good,” he answered a little too fast. Murphy tuned back around and kissed Jill’s cheek, before leaving her in the tent to finish getting ready.
______
Murphy stood back as Bellamy left to get some water, and Jasper was getting fun powder. This was his chance. He walked towards Myles and placed a plastic bag over his head. “This is for tying the noose that they hung me with. Say hi to Connor for me.”
After a few moments Murphy removed the bag when he heard a clanging noise. He spun to see a petrified looking Jasper staring at him.
“He stopped breathing. I was... I was trying to help him.”
Jasper reaches his hand out slowly, “Murphy, just put the gun down.”
“He tried to kill me. Hey, don't move.” He frowned as Jasper put his hands up defensively.
“Ok. Ok. It's cool.”
It’s cool? Something inside Murphy snapped. Nobody cared about him. Nobody cared that he almost got murdered for a crime he didn’t commit. “No, it’s not. You know what’ll happen to me if you tell Bellamy.”
A muffled noise filled the room, followed by a voice on Jasper’s radio. “Tell Bellamy What?”
______
Jill was surprised when Octavia grabbed her arm and quickly began dragging her towards the drop-ship. “Murphy’s gone insane! He’s taken Bellamy hostage, you’re the only one who can talk him down.”
A feeling of nausea washed over Jill as she processed what Octavia was saying. She should have trusted her gut and pushed Murphy for more information. No, no, he wouldn’t do this.
By the time Jill and Octavia reached the drop-ship it was too late. Murphy was gone.
Jasper, Jill, and Octavia rushed inside to help Bellamy. Jasper looked closer at the hole in the wall, “the guy knows how to make an exit. Should we go after him?”
“No. Grounders will take care of Murphy.” Bellamy shot Jill a glare before walking out of the room. “We're going after Clarke, Finn, and Monty. You and Raven were right. We don't abandon our own. Two guns... you and me. That's it. Raven stays here to build up defenses. We lost a day because of this, and our gunpowder. Raven!”
“Bellamy, wait. Look, I just... Thank you. Long way from whatever the hell you want.”
Jill froze as she blocked out the conversation between Bellamy and Jasper. Her brain was going into overdrive, she couldn’t believe Murphy had done this. He’d actually tried to kill Bellamy...and a tiny part of her understood why.
Octavia squeezed her arm, “Are you coming?” Jill stared at her blankly. “The guards have spotted somebody by the gates, we need to go.”
Jill nodded and took a couple of steps before stopping. “O I’m so sorry. I never knew John was going to hurt your brother, I swear. He’s messed up...but I didn’t think he’d go this far.”
“I know, now we need to go.”
______
Jill couldn’t stop surveying the gates around camp with hopes of seeing even a glimpse of John, but she suspected he was long gone by now.
While Clarke, Finn, and Bellamy argued about what to do next Jill slowly walked away. Seeing the marks on Bellamy’s neck was making her feel physically sick. As she walked towards her tent something out the corner of her eye got her attention. A person was struggling to walk. Raven. Jill sprinted towards her and began screaming for help.
“Raven! Raven!” Finn ran over and picked her up. “What the hell happened?”
“I don’t know,” Jill shook her head. “I just found her like this. We should get her into the drop-ship.”
“Murphy shot her,” Bellamy deadpanned.
Jill gulped down and helped Finn move Raven inside. She had no time to dwell on what had happened, the needed focus on saving Raven and keeping the grounders out.
Bellamy stepped in front of Jill when she tried to leave, “where the hell are you going?”
“I’m going to get bandages from my tent,” Bellamy didn’t move. “You need to move so I can get them.”
“Not a chance.”
“Excuse me? Is this a fucking joke? You need to let me past.”
“I don’t trust you. For all I know you are going to finish off the job your boyfriend started.” Bellamy looked up at Miller, “search her tent.”
Octavia stepped forward, “Bell this isn’t-”
“Stay out of this O,” he snapped at his sister before turning to face Jill again. “You aren’t leaving my sight, I should have known better than to ever trust a murder.”
“Bellamy that’s enough!” Clarke’s sharp voice pierced through the drop-ship. “Jill, I'd appreciate anything you have.”
“I’ll go get them,” Jill shoved past Bellamy who glared at her in return.
Right before I woke up this morning, for a moment, my mind dreamt of a scene of Clarke on the Ring. She makes it to the rocket on time. It's her and Bellamy standing at the observation window, watching Earth burn. It's the two of them looking to the future, their people's and their own, together. 4x13 ends with a flash-forward of six years, but one of Spacekru as a family. As we see the eight of them laughing together at a dinner table, the camera pans to a weighted, happy glance shared between Clarke and Bellamy, him lifting their joined hands to his lips, two matching, thin rings of gold metal on their fingers. And that's how the audience comes to know they have coupled up. Boom. Out.
My ears are ringing from the collective shrieking we would have done.
My waking hours are here, and I'd like to play this scenario out to my specifications.
The first half of 5x01 is Spacekru flashbacks, showing us how they bonded to become a family and how Bellarke got together.
In the long, quiet comfort of the Ring, our heroes give voice to their past traumas and heal old grievances.
Clarke tells Bellamy about her father, Bellamy shares stories about his mother. She tells him about her father's kindness and gentle nature, his limitless heart. Jake's teases about Clarke drawing on every plain surface she could find, a habit that began with her childhood. Passionate as she was for sketching, she was in the midst of early medical training. Her exposure to the Council and the Chancellor is what gave Clarke her political acumen. Clarke recounts the games they used to watch with the Jahas. Before long, she's explaining the rules of soccer to a confused but amused Bellamy. Bellamy tells her what little he remembers about his parents before his father died. Aurora's smile. Her sacrifices for her children. Her tenacity. Her love of mythic stories she passed onto him. The overwhelming sense of responsibility she instilled in him from too early an age. Bellamy talks about the challenges of a life spent hiding a little girl under the floorboards from the Ark. Bellamy shares the rewards of being the only pair of siblings to have existed in nearly a hundred years. Unbidden by the role of big brother in Clarke's company, he gives voice to the constraints placed on his life. The hardships of living in Factory Station, while Clarke shrinks in guilt over her bountiful upbringing in Alpha. They both recall the pain of watching their parents get floated. There, in front of their eyes one second, gone forever in the blink of an eye. Clarke discloses that, while privileged, she was a lonely child. Were it not for Wells, she would have had no friends. She talks about him, what Bellamy never got to know about Wells Jaha.
The atmosphere shifts, and their conversations progress to contemporary times.
They discuss their respective tendencies to want to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. It takes time, but Clarke finally divulges why she felt compelled to leave Camp Jaha. How bereft she felt. Her nightmares and loneliness in self-imposed exile. Wandering around the freezing cold of the woods. Bellamy can't rein in the pain as he reminds Clarke that she didn't bear it all on her own. She couldn't have, not when he was the one left behind to pick up the pieces Mount Weather shredded. He was the one seeing their faces every day. She asked him to come back with her, to their people, once before, and he did. But when he asked her to do the same, she left. They both know it's not apologies he's looking for. It's a promise, a reigniting of an old promise made between two lost souls needing the other when the world threatened to drown them. They readily give in.
Their conversation takes an unexpected turn when Clarke explains why she gave in to Bellamy's plan to go undercover in Mt. Weather. For her to be strong enough to save her people, she couldn't let love hold her back, make her weak. From the second Bellamy left her sight, she regretted it. They both recognize it as the confession she didn't intend to say. Shock settles in. With newfound confidence, it triggers an admission of Bellamy's own feelings. Cue canon Bellarke.
Once the air between them is clear, it was only fair that the effects of Mt. Weather be a topic Clarke and Bellamy discuss with the third member of the room that fateful day. It leads them to the complicated subject of Jasper, the three of them breaking down in tears over their fallen friend.
Six years of peacetime spent in Clarke's company shapes perspective on the girl herself. She's not Clarke Griffin, the fierce and stoic Skaikru leader, equipped with all the answers. She's not Wanheda, the great legend. She's just a girl, with vulnerabilities, insecurities, fears, and demons, just the same as any of them. She becomes a person to them. Real flesh and blood. A human being who does indeed break. And no one is more startled by this revelation than Raven. It's another contentious relationship of Clarke's requiring time to mend. Although sharing feelings doesn't come easily to Raven, the two eventually crack their sibling-like rivalry where Abby and Finn are concerned.
It's the presence of a fellow cockroach well-versed in the glamourous lifestyle of isolation that gets Murphy out of his self-destructive streak. In their own ways, they have both been the outsiders. They make an uncanny pair of confidantes, so says the rest of the kru. But somehow, it works. Trust doesn't come easy for Murphy, and he and Clarke have their fair share of issues. Close quarters force the two of them and Emori to work it out. For all that Clarke excels at contrition, deserved and undeserved, she's also never been one to beat around the bush, no matter Murphy's preference to lash out in his signature style of sharp sarcasm at moments of his choosing. As it is for Bellamy, Clarke's belief in Murphy as a good man is an overwhelming force, one he is not sure he's worthy of, but privately welcomed nevertheless. In time, there arrives a sense of respect and loyalty between them no one foresaw.
Clarke's penchant for extending her hand to the outsiders doesn't end with Murphy and Emori. Clarke was the first to bring Echo on board and, she is the first to treat their errant Azgeda former spy as family. Post-season 4 to the series' end, Echo's character development is at the forefront of her story arc, never filtered through a subpar pairing needed to fuel an insipid love triangle where her leg of it is marked for eventual demolition.
Since I am bound by limitless imagination, let us pretend this was a 2-hour season premiere.
The flashbacks take us through the six years to the present. Spacekru's happiness is juxtaposed, as we transition to below the ground, by the hellscape Wonkru is trapped in. The second half of 5x01 is Wonkru flashbacks, a la 5x02.
5x02 takes us back to Eligius IV, to the passing of Order 11 (is that what it was called?). A young pilot named Shaw chooses to defy his captain's orders, releasing their prisoners. They proceed to take over the ship, killing Shaw's crewmates and captain, Charmaine Diyoza assuming command. She corrals Paxton McCreary and his men to her side. With their mutiny a success, Diyoza tells Shaw to plot a course for Earth. All the while, we see Shaw wrestling with the bloody aftermath of his decisions. They reach Earth's orbit, ready to go home, unknowingly under the watch of 8 survivors in space.
The Eligius prisoners touch ground on the last arable patch of land on Earth and quickly find themselves ensnared in a series of traps by an unknown number of assailants. Their assailant turns out to be a solitary preteen. They capture her, interrogate her. She speaks a language they've never heard. I'm making it a point to emphasize those infernal shock collars do not exist in my little world.
5x03 plays out similarly onboard the Eligius mothership. Our kru arrives, not to borrow a cup of sugar, but to steal the hydrazine for their journey home. Clarke, Bellamy, and kru debates the morality of killing 300 strangers in their sleep before deciding to use them as leverage. Raven and Murphy stay behind. Six Spacekru members fall to Earth and are captured by Eligius. They are taken to Diyoza, where they find a little girl dressed in Grounder garb. Bellamy and Clarke use their trump card to free themselves, Madi, and use their resources to locate Wonkru, with an additional promise to share the land and their knowledge of life on Earth.
5x04 plays out the same, more or less, without the awkward tension of a Bellarke trying to reacclimate themselves to each other's presence again. Diyoza brings Madi, Bellamy, and Clarke to Polis, where Bellarke negotiates for Wonkru's release. They meet Blodreina and her cult of warriors. Fandom squeals seeing Octavia greet her sister-in-law. Wonkru (and Blodreina) comes to realize that they have found a surviving Nightblood. Diyoza betrays the accord, taking Abby and Kane to Shallow Valley and leaving Bellarke and Madi at odds with Octavia.
5x05 sees Bellarke continuing to act in concert as a team, eager to reunite with their lost people while keeping a protective eye on Madi. Tensions brew between them and Blodreina. Marper and Echo return and they all turn back to Polis.
Blodreina refuses to grant pardon to Echo. Spacekru fights on her behalf, while Echo is willfully recruited for Octavia's mission. Madi meets Gaia under Clarke's watchful eye. When Madi is introduced to the Flame, Clarke tries to persuade her not to be swayed by the Flamekeeper's influence. Because this is my fantasy and I can do what I wish, it turns out that Clarke and Bellamy are expecting their first child. Clarke, believing the Flame to be a curse for its bearer, wants to spare Madi a bloody fate. She wants to abolish this aspect of Grounder culture, fearing the chances her child may become the next natural-born Nightblood. She dreads the possibility of her child as the next participant in the Conclave or the next Commander.
Another sidenote I am interjecting. Here, toxic motherhood isn't a defining characteristic of Clarke's, to aid in her isolation and subsequent, continual emotional decline. In my world, she gets to be a protective mother, a loving wife, a compassionate friend, and a caring daughter, all rolled in one little blonde package. She gives love freely, as she does in canon, but receives it in kind. She doesn't sink to rock bottom, nor must she, to be the heroine she is. She draws on the good and the bad experiences she's had to teach others. She imparts her lessons to those in need. Love is a commodity her life isn’t devoid of.
Clarke and Bellamy argue over what to do about Blodreina. Neither wants her to be harmed, but Bellamy maintains that she is, above all, his sister. He needs to believe Octavia is still within reach. He cannot abandon her now that they're together again. Clarke petitions Bellamy to take their family to Shallow Valley before it's too late. They compromise, agreeing to remove Octavia from the board long enough for Indra to take Diyoza's proffered deal. Their plans fail, as per 5x08, and Octavia arrests Clarke, an execution set for after the baby’s birth. We retain the glorious Blake scene of 5x08. It breaks Bellamy's heart to hurt Octavia, but she forced his hand. He has to protect his wife and their baby.
Tensions come to a head between husband and wife, courtesy of 5x09. Bellamy, having exhausted all other options, decides Madi must ascend to Commander to accomplish their goals. It is the only way to protect them all and save the valley. I am once again interrupting my spiel to remark that Clarke knows, unequivocally, she is included on the shortlist of family Bellamy is most ardently trying to protect. Forget "included," she's at the top. Clarke, ever the protective mother, disagrees, citing endangerment to Madi from Octavia and her patriots. Clarke argues that, of Diyoza and Octavia, Diyoza is the lesser evil to their family. As long as they remain within Diyoza's rules, they have nothing to fear from her. Bellamy, seeing Clarke's deep-rooted fear, agrees.
They are delayed by Marper, who wish to stay within the bunker, living off the revitalized algae farm. Bellamy and Clarke don't want to leave them behind until Monty points out that they, for once, deserve the chance to choose their fate, as all of the people of Earth. Octavia recuperates in time to arrest Bellamy, sending him to the fighting pit. Clarke fights to defend him but is detained. Clarke wants to fight alongside him, but they both know she has to live to raise their baby. They are permitted a final goodbye, and they have an emotional last exchange, a.k.a. Kabby parallel. Like Kane before him, Indra is forced to separate another family.
Octavia assures Bellamy that the baby will be under her protection. By now, Bellamy has reached the end of his rope with his baby sister. He loves her, but he can't distinguish her from the monster she's become, and it's about to cost him a life with his family. Disgusted, Bellamy scoffs at her overtures. He reminds her that his child deserves to have its parents. Clarke's earlier words come back as he tells her that she is his family's worst enemy. It wasn't enough for Aurora to leave him responsible for raising his sister at six years old. For the first time, his life is right, and she's the one who's about to take it away. He reminds her what it was like to lose her mother at 17, to never know her father. She knows how devastating it feels. Yet, left up to her, his child would be an orphan. He finishes with a devastating blow: it'll be those he holds as his family who will take care of his wife and child.
Clarke breaks free of her restraints, making plans to cause disruption to the bunker and getting Bellamy out in the ensuing chaos. She is stopped by Monty, who wants to use the opportunity to give Wonkru a better choice. Clarke tells him she isn't gambling Bellamy's life. Monty breaks again, pointing out that the last time he helped her and Bellamy, they split blood, and their plans still failed. Clarke reluctantly relents out of guilt, knowing how Mount Weather continues to haunt Monty. She does, after all, trust him with her life.
Bellamy fights Indra in the pits until the proceedings are interrupted by an intervening Monty, brandishing a pure, white flower in a sea of blood and darkness. Just as he begins to sway Wonkru to his non-volatile solution to the impending war, Blodreina forces compliance by burning the algae farm.
As Wonkru mobilizes for war, the fractured Spacekru and Madi take the rover to the valley to find their friends. They destroy the worms in transit.
They save an incapacitated Abby, who later recounts the Dark Year. Bellamy can't stop the horror he feels at the ordeal his sister has lived through. He feels a pang of guilt he knows is irrational while wrestling with the knowledge that she is still responsible for her choices now.
They reunite with the rest of Spacekru and are surprised to learn McCreary has taken control of the camp. With Diyoza and Kane's assistance, the eye in the sky is reinstalled, giving Eligius the advantage. As much as they want to prevent this war, they cannot leave Wonkru to die in the gorge. The group breaks off. One team is sent to disable the eye in the sky. The other team uses Madi's knowledge of the valley's layout to head off to fight alongside Wonkru in the gorge.
By the time they arrive safely, only Octavia, Indra, and Gaia are left alive. Bellamy convinces Octavia to retreat instead of sacrificing herself. He tells her she has to live with what she's done instead of taking the easy way out. For the most part, I'm picturing the scenes play out as they did in canon. At base camp, Wonkru is in disarray. Too many bodies are left littered from this war, with Blodreina at fault. To stop the in-fighting, Madi attempts to assume control by invoking her natural right to lead as a Nightblood. Some dissent, claiming she is not yet Commander. With support from Gaia, Octavia, and Bellamy (who makes sure this is what she wants), they sway Wonkru to Madi's side. Freshly invigorated, Wonkru prepares for a second assault.
Back on the Eligius ship, Clarke, Raven, and Shaw release an imprisoned Diyoza. They allow themselves to be captured and taken to the ship's central control. While McCreary attempts to force Raven to pilot their ship, she and Clarke regain control. Meanwhile, Bellamy convinces Madi to let the prisoners live.
From here, may I present two alternatives:
Scenario 1: Clarke kills McCreary before he can launch the missile from the mothership. With Spacekru controlling the ship's weaponry and Wonkru overtaking the prisoners, Eligius capitulates. After much deliberation, a new accord is reached, allowing for all survivors to live in peace as a singular society. Spacekru gets their 80 acres. The last of the 10(2) become parents to the next generation. It takes time, but Bellamy and Octavia's relationship heals. Eventually, she earns back her place in his life as his sister. She becomes one of many to welcome Bellarke's little one to the world, ecstatic to be a loving aunt. Generations later, the Earth recovers.
Scenario #2: The missile is launched. Earth's survivors must escape to space to survive. Marper opts out of cryosleep and has a son. It takes Monty ten years to realize Earth may never recover from its last doomsday. He wakes Spacekru+ to determine options. Between him, Raven, and Shaw, the three configure a self-running algorithm to decode the Eligius III mission files. They wire the pods to awaken its occupants every decade to check the algorithm's progress. The McIntyre-Greens go into cryosleep with some gentle persuasion from Bellarke. They won't leave their people behind. Thirty years later, Earth remains dormant. The files reveal the existence of a planet that could support human life, lightyears away, in the binary star system in the Goldilocks zone. They plot a course.
No, it's not as thrilling as the original ending. But if our heroes are going to traipse across the universe, only to return to their home planet, then Marper will not be sacrificed for nada. They will live out their days, a little older, a little wiser, but surrounded by their friends. They will not say farewell to their son at his ripe old age of 26.
There isn't much I would change about season 6, not where its major storylines are concerned. Clarke meets Cillian for his insight on Abby and Kane's deteriorating conditions. I would alter Madi's arc to where she takes the Flame in Sanctum and uses the time while the grounders are in cryosleep to train under Gaia's tutelage. Madi becomes attached to Bellarke, and it leaves her susceptible to Sheidheda's influence when her newfound familial figures find themselves at risk from the Primes. She'd see Sheidheda as a necessary evil to save her people, not unlike Clarke submitting to Lxa's clout. I would have Sheidheda preying on Madi's fears that she'd be alone again as she was during Praimfaya if she doesn't respond with vigor.
Season 7 gets a similar, substantial overhaul I've been thinking about for months but haven't yet written down.
The end.
(When am I going to stop with these sidenotes? After this last point, I promise.) Jason ran too tight a ship to let his post-apocalypse masterpiece become overtaken by frivolous romance. Without this pitfall, what stopped him from coupling Bellarke up before the end? Nothing. He could have a Bellarke that remained symbolic of the show's themes and mythos. A show that thrives on chaos would never run out of conflict to stir the pot. Falling apart and weaving themselves back together has been the model of their relationship since season one. Why couldn't they do this and be a couple? Why couldn't they have the Memori Model? They could have, but Jason chose the path of the slowburn. There's no fault in this. There is a fault in choosing to rescind the previously established story when it comes time for the threads to finally tie together. And I will never forgive him for it.
Sub Rosa [15]
ii. inclement weather
Pairing: Bellamy Blake x reader
Word Count: 1.7k
Warnings: Language, allusions to past assault, mentions of nausea.
Summary: Being locked up sucks, especially when Shumway is locked in the cell beside yours.
a/n: happy show day! so many of you liked the twist from the last chapter, and I’m glad! season 2 is my FAVORITE season of the 100, so I’m very excited to share this season with you guys. As always, feedback is appreciated and the taglist for this series is open!
previous chapter // season masterlist // series masterlist
You turn away from Bellamy when you hear the doors slide open behind you.
You both stand, watching as Kane hands off his gun and steps into your shared cell, gaze already hardened as he looks at you both. You step closer to him and ask, “How long are you going to keep us locked in here?”
“Until I'm confident neither of you are no longer a threat to others.” He pulls out a chair and sets it in the middle of the room, getting comfortable. “Let’s continue.”
He gestures to the two chairs in front of him, side by side, and you and Bellamy exchange a glance before settling into them, resuming the interrogation from earlier. “Now you said there were hundreds of Grounders attacking. 200, 300?”
“We were too busy getting killed to count.”
Kane glares at you, but ignores your tone. “Why do you think they attacked? What provoked them?”
Bellamy answers first, “We were here. That was enough.” His voice grows louder as his frustration grows. “We’re wasting time. The others didn't just vanish into thin air. They were taken, and we need to go after them!”
“A search team is prepping to leave, but not before we've gotten the intel we need from the two of you.”
You lean forward in your seat, voice begging. “We need to be on that team, please.”
“That’s out of the question. Neither of you are trained. It’s too dangerous.”
“Those are our people out there!”
Kane ignores your outburst. “They’re my people, too. You want to help them? Tell me what we're up against... Grounder tactics, their numbers, what kind of weapons they used.”
Bellamy answers for you, “Arrows and spears, axes, swords. Their teeth.”
“No guns? You had guns.”
He sighs and scrubs a hand over his face. “The guns we found at the aid depot leveled the playing field, and maybe, maybe if we'd had more bullets, we could have-”
Kane cuts him off, “There were more bullets.” You and Bellamy turn to each other as Kane adds, “Search team just returned from the bunker. They found two more barrels full of rifles and a third filled with bullets.”
You feel a look of horror pass over your face, and Bellamy whispers, “We should have looked harder.”
The door slides open, ending the conversation, and two guards pull Murphy into the cell. You and Bellamy both stand, angry. “What’s he doing here?”
“Excuse me, sir. Dr. Griffin cleared Mr. Murphy out of medical.”
Kane nods, “Put him over there, Major Byrne.”
They lead Murphy to one side of the cell, and force you and Bellamy to the other side, grunting, “On your knees. Come on.”
You both comply, and the guard slips cuffs around each of your wrists, and then attach you to a support beam in the middle of the room. Murphy catches your glare and mutters, “Well, this should be fun.”
Kane looks over at him, ready to respond, when the sound of gunshots pop off in the distance, and the room jumps into action. “Let’s go! Move, move, move! Go, go, go!”
You’re all forced to watch the retreating figures run from the cell and out into the camp in search of the sound, while you’re all left behind, glaring at each other from opposite sides of the room.
A voice reaches you from the next cell over, “Wonder what that’s all about.” You cringe at the sound of it, the voice that haunts your nightmares. Kane’s interrogations were pointless, but they had given you temporary reprieve from him.
Murphy eyes the man in curiosity. “Who’s that?”
“No one.” You snap back.
“It breaks my heart to hear you say that.” His voice grows closer, and you know he’s moved until he’s standing just on the other side of the wall, but you don’t turn to face him. “I thought we were closer than that, little la lune.”
Your skin crawls at the sounds of your nickname coming from his mouth, and you fail to suppress the chill that scurries down your spine. Beside you, Bellamy yells, “Shut up, Shumway!”
He laughs, “No need to get defensive, Bellamy, we’re just having a little fun.”
You can feel your emotions rising, threatening to spill out and over, and Bellamy must sense it too, because he reaches for you. The restraints keep him from offering anything more than a hand to hold, but you take it, grateful. You close your eyes and focus on the feel of his hand in yours, warm, safe, and picture the night sky, tracing constellations from memory.
When you feel yourself grow calmer, your eyes open and land on Murphy, who’s giving you a strange look. You see his gaze bounce between a tensed up Bellamy, your intertwined hands, and then to Shumway, and an odd expression passes over his face, almost like he’s tucking the information away for later. You’re about to throw an insult over to him when the sound of Raven screaming cuts through the camp and into the room.
“Yeah. That was me at the Grounder camp. You now, I did everything I could to not scream, but eventually…”
You glare at Murphy, and Bellamy tenses even further, grounding out, “But eventually, you broke and you told them everything.”
“And you wouldn't have because you're better than me.” He says it like a statement, not a question, but Bellamy answers him anyways.
“Damn right. I’m not a traitor. I didn't tell them where they could find us.”
“And I did. Yeah, I did. After they tortured me in their prison camp for 3 days, but go ahead. You just keep on believing, even if you are in here just like me.”
Bellamy opens his mouth to answer, but Shumway beats him to it. “Three days?” He lets out a low whistle. “Too bad they didn’t get you, Bellamy.”
You spin around, finally allowing your anger to run free. “Shut up, Shumway! You worthless, pathetic, piece of shit! Just shut up!”
He smirks, and his eyes drop down to your hand, intertwined with Bellamy’s, now in his view. His smirk grows. “Now this is interesting.”
He looks like he wants to say more, but you can hear a set of doors slide open, and he turns around. A muffled voice reaches your ears, “Shumway, you’re coming with us.”
“Why?”
“We just lost three of the Guard, and the Chancellor wants everyone with weapon experience on watch.”
You try to stand, held back by your restraints, and yell out in protest, “You’re gonna give him a weapon? He’s a psychopath! You can’t let him go!”
Shumway flashes you a smile over his shoulder. “I hope you haven’t forgotten about our deal. I’ll come to collect once you’re out.”
The words drop you back down on your knees, and nausea rolls through you, nearly pushing its way out of your chest and onto the floor. You hear your blood rushing in your ears, and beyond that, muffled words from Bellamy. You shake your head to clear it, his words now coming through. “Don’t listen to him. I’m not going to let him near you, do you understand? I’m going to keep you safe.”
You feel yourself nod, and he squeezes your hand. “You should try to get some rest, you’ve barely slept in days.”
And as if his words remind you, you finally notice the heavy feeling in your limbs and your eyes. The emotions and trauma of the last few days stretch and blanket over you, weighing you down further. You nod again and lean against him, dropping your head onto his shoulder and allow sleep to take you.
-
A hand closes over your arm and shakes you gently, and you wake with a start. Finn is kneeling in front of you, pulling a pair of bolt clippers from his bag. “Get up. We’re going after them.”
He cuts your hands free, then Bellamy’s, who quips, “It’s about time.”
You both stand and start for the door, but Murphy stops you. “Wait, wait. What about me?”
Bellamy bends down and lifts the discarded bolt cutters and walks towards Murphy. For a second, you think he’s going to knock him out with them, and Murphy must think the same, because he cowers behind his hands. Instead, Bellamy cuts the lead on his cuffs, keeping him restrained but allowing him to leave. Finn protests behind you, “No! What are you doing?”
Bellamy pulls him to his feet, “He’s coming with us.”
You cut your eyes towards Bellamy and your brows furrow in confusion and Finn responds, “No way.”
“He’s been to the Grounder prison camp.”
“He’s right. I can bring you there.”
Finn considers this, then lets out a quiet sigh. “Fine.”
He heads for the open door, past Monroe who is waving you through as she keeps watch down a separate hallway. You follow Finn out of the building and along the back of the camp, until he slips underneath the fence in a poorly guarded area. You all duck beneath the wire and follow, running towards the wall of trees that line the camp, using them for cover. Bellamy whispers, “You don't think anyone saw us?”
Finn turns around and gives him a sharp look. “Shh. Keep it down.”
As soon as the words leave his mouth, a pair of flashlights land on you, and you all freeze in place. You start to contemplate how far you can run before they can get a shot off, when a familiar voice cuts through your thoughts. “You're late.”
They lower the flashlights, and you see her, your mother, along with a member of the guard that you’ve never seen before. As soon as your eyes land on her, you think of your father, and what she did to save you. Conflicting emotions run through you, but guilt stays at the forefront, strong and heavy. Your mom passes Finn a pistol, and the guard passes the rifle in his hand to Bellamy. “Here. Find my son. His name is Nathan Miller.”
Bellamy nods and the guard un-shoulders a second rifle and passes it to you, and your mom’s gaze bounces over each one of you. “Bring them home.”
Finn starts to run off, followed by Monroe and Sterling. Bellamy pushes Murphy ahead, and you bring up the rear. As you pass your mom, she grabs your arm to stop you. “Bring Clarke home.”
You look up and see tears in her eyes, and she brushes a finger over the moon around your neck. “And stay safe.”
“I will.”
She drops her hand and releases you, and you jog off, turning around to look at her one last time. Her eyes meet yours and she gives you a sad smile, before you turn back around and catch up with the others.
Feedback is always highly appreciated!
You spent most of the day guarding the gate and watching to see if Clarke was coming back into camp, but by the time she did, Bellamy had been with you for a few hours and she was accompanied by two grounders on horses.
“Hold your fire!” You shouted. “She’s back!”
Everyone went into their positions and opened the gate for the blonde to enter. You lowered your gun and Finn ran to her in the split of the crowd of guards, asking if she was okay.
“Shut the gate,” She said to the closest guard. She then turned to Finn. “You can’t be out here,”
You followed after her as she pulled Finn further into camp by his sleeve, reaching her mother and pulling her in for a hug.
“What did she say?” Abby asked her daughter. “Is there a chance for a truce?”
You watched Clarke as she looked at her mother. Something seemed very different about her, like she had lost all hope. Like she was empty. And you could only assume that meant that her answer was no.
“Yes.” Clarke nodded, and you sighed of relief.
“What’s wrong?” Finn asked.
“They want you,” And there it was. The sacrifice that no one wants to make; the exception that turns everything around and makes living just a little worse. “If we want a truce, we have to give them Finn.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Raven asked.
“That’s their offer.” Clarke shook her head.
“That’s not an offer,” Raven countered.
“It’s punishment.” Finn realized. “For what happened at the village. Blood for blood.”
“That’s insane,” Bellamy interjected.
“And if we refuse?” You asked, stepping up beside the blonde.
“If we refuse…” She breathed. “They attack.”
The crowd began to close in, shouting at the group to give him to the grounders in response to what would happen if he wasn’t handed over to them. One of the men stepped into the circle and Raven pushed him back, causing Bellamy to hold the man back while you and Clarke restrained Raven.
“Raven! Raven. Listen to me.” Clarke looked the woman in the eye. “Nothing is going to happen to him. I promise. Okay?”
“I’m not dying for him.” Another man walked up to the three of you. “Spacewalker burned 3 months of oxygen on the Ark. He should have floated a long time ago.”
Raven pushed the guy as he made his way over to Finn, causing Major Byrne to step in. Out of rage, Raven punched the guard and two more interfered and restrained her, dragging her away. The crowd dispersed not long after that and you helped Clarke, Bellamy, and Abby decide how to better protect the camp.
After that, you all left Abby in the council room to notify Finn about the changes.
“Hey,” Bellamy greeted. “We’re reinforcing all defenses. Doubles on the perimeter. No one’s getting past that wire.”
Finn stood. “I’ll see where they’re thin.”
“No,” You interjected. “You should head inside. B corridor will be easier to defend; if it comes to that.”
“I’m not gonna hide.” Finn defied.
“Right now, we have to think about keeping you safe.” Clarke said. “I’m gonna talk to Lincoln.”
Finn followed Bellamy and Clarke walked away, leaving you alone with Murphy, who stood up with a rifle.
“Hey! Any orders for me, Queenie?”
“Yeah. Stay away from me.”
“Just trying to be helpful,” He sighed.
“I’ve got a pretty huge bone to pick with you, Murphy.” You huffed. “I mean, you killed my friend, tried to hang me, and you were there with Finn, at the village.”
“Look, I didn’t kill Charlotte, she threw herself off of a cliff. Hanging you, that was just for personal revenge, and I tried to stop Finn, okay?”
“Not hard enough.” You turned and walked away, but stopped again when Murphy spoke up.
“You wanna start blaming people, Y/n? Start with your friend, Clarke. He was out there looking for her.”
You continued with your walk to the medbay, ignoring Murphy’s words. You greeted Jackson, who was helping out a woman who seemed to have cut her leg, making your way to the back, where Lincoln was, already talking to Clarke.
They briefly noticed you and you squeezed in beside Clarke and Octavia.
“Did she leave riders?”
“Two, just outside the gate,” Abby responded.
“They’re waiting for Finn,” Lincoln told you. “You don’t have much time to decide.”
“She can’t expect us to just hand over one of our own people,” Octavia said, coming to stand beside Lincoln. “Would she do that?”
“She wouldn’t let the rest of her people die to protect a murderer.” Lincoln countered. “If you don’t do this, she will kill everyone in this camp.”
“There has to be something else we can offer,” You pleaded.
“Finn took 18 lives,” Lincoln emphasized. “The Commander’s offering to take just one in return. Take the deal.”
“How can you say that?” Clarke gasped. “Finn was the first person to come to you to offer peace. He’s your friend.”
“He massacred my village,” Lincoln argued. “Some of the dead were my friends, too.”
“But that wasn’t Finn,” Clarke said in a pleading voice. “You know that’s not who he is.”
“It is now.” Lincoln countered. “We’ve all got a monster inside of us, Clarke. And we’re all responsible for what it does when we let it out.”
“What will they do to him?” Abby asked the grounder.
“Fire.” He answered. “Because he killed the innocent, it starts with fire.”
“Starts?” Clarke asked.
“They’ll take his hands,” Lincoln continued. “His tongue, his eyes. And anyone who grieves will have a turn with the knife. At sunrise, the Commander will end it with her sword, but, I’ve never known anyone to survive until the sword.”
“He killed 18, he will suffer the pain of 18 deaths,” Lincoln stated. “Then we can have peace.”
Abby left the room and you looked at Clarke, unsure of exactly what to do. She was going to lose Finn even if the grounders attacked the camp, but if she did what was necessary, even if it wasn’t what she wanted to do, it would save a lot of lives.
That morning, you went with Clarke to find Bellamy, although for different reasons. She was looking for Finn, and you were supposed to help guard with him. Once Clarke left for what had used to be the medbay, you grabbed the other rifle that Bellamy was holding and slung it over your shoulder, gripping it but keeping your finger off of the trigger.
About five minutes later, the army started chanting something in their native language, Trigedasleng. Clarke and Abby came to inspect what was happening and where the noise was coming from (although you knew that they could tell it was grounders).
“They’re trying to scare us,” Bellamy affirmed.
“Yeah, well, I think they’re doing a pretty good job.” You muttered.
Abby moved from the entrance of Alpha station and Clarke trailed behind, prompting you and Bellamy to follow. Abby shouted to have the gate opened and faced the two men on horseback.
“We’re not giving him up,” Abby stated in response to the grounders’ question. “We’re ready to fight. If that’s what it comes to.”
As soon as she finished her sentence, a loud horn blew and the grounders in front of the camp retreated quickly, alarming you and Bellamy, who started shouting commands.
“Watch the woods! Watch for movement!”
You aimed your rifle, looking through the scope at the woods for any movement, finger now lightly placed on the trigger. Clarke whispered yours and Bellamy’s names, pointing to some rustling in the woods. You followed with your scoped and saw trees rustling and moving. You thought it was a grounder but your father burst through the treeline, shouting not to shoot.
You lowered your gun immediately, letting it hang from your strap as you moved forward hesitantly, letting him and Abby have their conversation. He looked around and spotted you, just a few steps ahead of Bellamy and Clarke, who were already walking forward.
“You can’t be out in the open,” Bellamy said. “We need to get you somewhere safe.”
“It’s safe… for the moment.” Kane assured him. “Come on, we need to talk. I’ve managed to buy us a bit of time.”
You followed them inside but they stopped you and the others at the doors and forced you to wait for a painstakingly long time for them to finish their conversation and come to a conclusion. As soon as the doors opened, Raven and Bellamy were beside Abby, questioning her about what went on inside, to which she only responded with, “There was a lot to talk about.”
“Hey,” Bellamy put a hand on the Chancellor’s shoulder, ceasing her movements. “We are not turning him over to the grounders.”
“Step aside, now.” The woman commanded, and Bellamy did so.
“We’re all trying to find a way out of this,” She assured the three of you, although she was looking at Raven, and walking away.
“They’re gonna give him up,” You realized.
You and Bellamy raced over to Finn and Clarke to tell him.
“You need to get out of here,” Bellamy urged.
“Where would he go?” Clarke asked the dark-haired man.
“The dropship.” You finalized, leading the pair out of the hallway with Bellamy.
“No!” Clarke protested. “You know that this is the safest place for him right now.”
“It isn’t if they’re turning on him,” Bellamy responded. “We can protect him at the dropship until we figure this thing out.”
People who had lined the corridors moved out of your way as you hastily walked down the halls, rushing to get out of camp.
“Grab your gear and meet at Raven’s gate in 5.” You instructed the pair. “She’s already working on cutting the power to the fence.”
“Okay, but nobody’s coming with me.” Finn decided, stopping in his tracks
Bellamy turned and looked at Finn as he deadpanned. “That isn’t up for discussion.”
“We are surrounded by grounders,” Clarke reminded the group.
“If we split up, we take the low ground, we’ll make it through.” Bellamy promised. “We’ll meet at the dropship.”
Just as Bellamy finished his sentence, the man the Raven punched for attacking Finn yesterday started towards you.
“There he is,” He stomped towards you, pointing a pipe at Finn. “You’re gonna get us all killed.”
You rolled your eyes and before he could take any more steps, you slipped your gun off your shoulder and swiftly rammed the butt of it into the man's abdomen, hearing his pipe clatter to the floor as he groaned in pain, falling along with his pipe.
“Anyone else?” You asked, anger evident in your tone and stature.
“They’re right. We have to go.” Clarke told Finn, walking away with him. Bellamy grabbed you by the elbow and pulled you along with him, following after the pair.
Once there was no one around and you calmed down, you pulled your elbow out of Bellamy’s grip. “Why did you drag me away like that? I think I can find my way out of here by myself.”
“Well I don’t think it would have been good if you decided to attack anyone else today, princess. We’ve got a lot to deal with already, and you being in lockup wouldn’t have made it any better.”
You rolled your eyes and continued your walk in silence, meeting up with Raven after grabbing your gear from your room and separately leaving camp, taking different directions to get to the dropship. Because the first one out, you were the first one there, Bellamy and Raven coming in not long after that.
You expected Clarke and Finn to show up, too, but they didn’t. Raven walked back into the room with a disappointed expression just as you set your pack down. “I checked again. Still no sign of them.”
“Where are they?” Bellamy asked the room.
“We shouldn’t have split up,” Raven told him.
You heard heavy footsteps outside and grabbed your rifle. “Someone’s coming,”
“Woah, hey, hey.” Murphy put his hands up in surrender, while you and Bellamy lowered your weapons out of surprise.
“Murphy.” Bellamy greeted. “What are you doing here?”
“I believe I was invited.” He chuckled
“I thought we could use an extra gun,” Raven explained, looking at the two of you.
“Might be a good idea,” Bellamy agreed.
“Finn should’ve been right behind you.” Raven told him.
He scoffed and crossed the room. “Don’t worry. Spacewalker’s gonna be fine.”
You waited impatiently for Finn and Clarke to arrive, pacing the room and playing with your locket. You sat down next to Raven as you kept spinning the locket and she turned towards you, pointing at it.
“What’s that?”
“Oh,” You looked down at the piece of jewelry. “It was a gift, from my grandmother when I was 10. It has pictures of my mother and father in it.”
“Can I- Can I see them?” You nodded at her question and took off the locket and handed it to Raven, letting her open it herself. She admired the pictures, smiling to herself. You looked over her shoulder and smiled, too. You always felt happier when you looked at the photos.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen Kane smile, so thank you for that,” She chuckled, and you laughed along with her.
“And your mom,” She looked up at you. “I used to see her everywhere when I was younger. She was one of the primary engineers, right?”
You nodded. “Yeah, she was. Well, she was until one of the trainees screwed up and she got hurt on the job. They sacked her after Abby said she couldn’t work anymore.”
Raven saddened at the story. “I heard about that, too. You know, you look a lot like her.”
“I’ve been told.” You smiled and raven gave you the locket back. You clipped it back around your neck and went to your pack to eat some of the food that you packed, the journey and wait making you hungry.
You put the wrappings back in your bag and stood back up just as Finn entered the dropship, carrying an unconscious Clarke. You rushed over to the blonde and frantically asked what happened.
“A grounder hit her on the head.” Finn responded, putting her on the ground where Murphy had instructed.
“Someone get me a bandage and a wet rag. They’re in my pack. Hurry!” You stayed at her head as Murphy handed you a bandage while Bellamy went to get the rag. You told Murphy to hold her head and took the cloth that Bellamy came back with, cleaning off the blood.
“Clarke, can you hear me?” You asked as you wiped the rest of the blood off. You began to put the bandage on and you noticed her regaining some consciousness as she moaned. “Don’t worry, you’ll be fine. You just need some rest.”
Finn stormed out of the dropship and Raven followed, leaving you, Murphy, and Bellamy to look at one another, having heard the conversation.
Once Raven came back inside to keep an eye on Clarke, you three went out to monitor the area and keep guard. You crouched behind a large burnt piece of tree, Bellamy situated on the other side. It didn’t take very long for you to spot something.
“We’ve got company! Get out here!” Bellamy shouted to Clarke and Finn, as Raven joined you not even a minute ago.
You looked behind you as the pair walked out of the dropship. “Get down. Grounders.”
They got their cover beside Raven and you looked through your scope, seeing armoured grounders passing through the holes in the wall. Clarke panted and came to a startling revelation. “We’re surrounded.”
You all moved back inside the dropship and waited, hoping the grounders would go away, although that was unlikely, as you all knew from past experiences. Bellamy and Murphy stayed near the parachute flap to look out every few minutes.
“They’re not moving any closer,” Murphy noted.
“Staying out of range.” Bellamy stated, covering the hole he peeked out of angrily. “Probably waiting until it’s dark.”
“If we hit them now, at least we’ll take them by surprise.” Murphy suggested.
“We don’t even know how many of them are out there,” You countered. “Could be 10, could be 100.”
“Well I’m not hearing any better ideas, Queenie.” Murphy smirked sarcastically.
“Jesus, will you give it up with the nickname already?” You groaned.
“We’ll give them something,” Raven cut in, stopping her thoughtful pacing.
“All they want is Finn,” Bellamy reminded them.
“But Finn wasn’t the only one at the village,” Raven said, keeping her gaze on the floor.
“What are you talking about?” Clarke asked the woman. You could already tell what Raven was going to say, and although you weren’t completely against it, it was wrong.
“Raven, hold on.” Bellamy asked the brunette.
“Woah, woah, woah,” Murphy stepped in. “Raven, I came here to protect him. You were the one who wanted me to come. You--”
He stopped himself as he realized why Raven actually asked him to come along. Her face was hard and her expression cold as she looked at the delinquent.
“That’s why you asked me to come along.”
“Enough grounders saw him at the village. They’d believe he was the shooter.” She defended herself.
“Raven, you don’t mean this,” Clarke pleaded.
“You know what they do to people.” Bellamy reminded her.
“They want a murderer? We’ll give them one.” She defended, cocking her rifle and aiming it at Murphy. “Drop your gun!”
You watched with wide eyes as Murphy walked up to the barrel of Raven's gun and told her to go to hell with a straight face.
“Raven, put it down.” You negotiated. “Like it or not, he’s one of us.”
“I said drop it.” She pushed her gun to Murphy's chest until Finn yelled for her to stop and pushed the gun down, stepping in front of Murphy.
“We’re not doing this.” He decided. “They’ve got us surrounded. The only thing we can do is stay, and defend this place.
“I’m with you,” Bellamy affirmed, and Finn watched as you nodded at him.
“Murphy, go upstairs and watch the rear.” He instructed. “Y/n and I will take the lower level. You three, take the front gate.”
“That’s the plan. Alright?” He asked the group and everyone nodded and moved into their positions, Bellamy squeezing your shoulder reassuringly before he left and Raven assuring Finn that they had a handle on things before following Bellamy.
You followed him down the hatch after Clarke left, staying silent for the most part, until Finn spoke up. “I didn’t mean to do it, you know.”
When he saw your confused face, he clarified. “I didn’t mean to shoot them. I was just so upset, and I blacked out. My anger got the better of me and I just… shot at them. I knew he was just a kid and that he wanted to get away but all I saw was white and then there were bodies everywhere.”
You saddened at his confession, but nodded anyway. “I know, Finn. How do you think I got here?”
“When I was little, around 10, my mom lost her job because one of the new guys screwed up and she hurt her leg. After that, they said she wasn’t fit to work anymore. Which meant she had no way of getting me food. So, she did what any mother would do, and stole food just so she could keep me alive.”
You cleared your throat while you looked at the ground and continued. “Someone caught her one day and she got floated within the week. My dad watched her and so did I, but I thought he would take me with him when he left. Instead I was lumped with a drunken guard and after two years, I just snapped.”
“Him and his friends were laughing at me as they threw bottles at my feet, and then all I saw was white. When I came to, his friends were unconscious and bleeding on the ground, and he was crawling towards the front door.”
Finn nodded understandingly, and you could see something flash in his eyes. You couldn’t recognize what emotion it was, since he was partially facing away from you. Then he turned towards you, looking apologetic.
“Tell Clarke I said ‘goodbye.’” He said, then muttering an apology towards you.
You opened your mouth to question him, but he was quick, smashing the butt of his rifle into the side of your head. The pain throbbed throughout your face and brain, a small cut forming on your hairline, near your ear. You fell to the ground as you heard his echoed footsteps receding, darkness consuming you.
When you woke up, you were moving. Swaying, actually. You tried to get out and stand on your feet, but whoever held you kept their grip.
“Well, it looks like princess finally decided to wake up.” Bellamy commented as the movement stopped. He let you out of his arms and you faced two angry women and Murphy.
“What the hell happened?” Raven demanded an answer.
“I-I don’t know. One minute I’m telling him how I got here and the next he’s hitting me on the head with his rifle! He ran out right before I passed out.” You explained. “I didn’t let him do it, that’s for sure.”
“Well thank God you’re awake, Bellamy wouldn’t stop worrying about you.” Murphy rolled his eyes and continued walking with Raven. You eyed Bellamy, who looked away from you. You noticed the pink tainting his olive cheeks and decided not to speak about it, instead following him and walking with Clarke.
You spent the day walking back to camp, and the sun was just falling over the hills when you arrived. You helped out with guard duty, put everyone put their guns away as soon as the grounders had torches set up and they beat on their drums.
Standing between Marcus and Bellamy, you watched the fire-lit field intently, as did the rest of Camp Jaha. They were setting up a pole in the middle of the field, easily visible to everyone on the other side of the fence and to you.
“We’re gonna get him,” Bellamy affirmed hopelessly. “We’ll get in close and we’ll hit them hard.” You watched his tearful eyes look at your father.
“Son…” He said. “There’s thousands of them. Even if we could kill hundreds, they’d still wipe out this camp and your friend would still die.”
You sucked in a breath at your father's words and looked from him to Bellamy as he pushed to try. Raven begged Abby to do something and her voice alone almost broke you. Your hands worked faster than your brain could comprehend and your hand was clutching Bellamy’s before you could process it.
You squeezed your eyes shut as you tried to block the memories of your mother from replaying for the thousandth time since it happened, but closing your eyes was the worst thing you could have done.
“PLEASE! PLEASE LET ME SEE HER!” You struggled against one of the guards grip on you as you fought to get to her. You kicked and punched until he let go, while she was released willingly by the guard that held her.
She bent down as your body crashed into her, your arms wrapping around her neck. Tears already flowed like rivers down your cheeks, and you could tell she was crying, too, because of the drops you felt on your shoulder.
“My little ladybug,” She said with a teary smile, pushing the hair from your face as she released you from her grip. “I love you… so so much. Don’t you ever forget that, okay? I love you with everything I have. Your dad’s gonna take good care of you, I promise.”
“Mom, please don’t leave. I don’t want you to leave!” You wailed. You paid no attention to your father, who just walked into the room.
“In peace, may you leave this shore.” Your mother began, holding both your hands.
“In love, may you find the next.” Her voice wavered as she continued. “Safe passage on your travels, until our final journey to the ground.”
You sniffled and looked into your mother’s eyes for the last time, finishing the prayer with her. “May we meet again.”
She smiled and placed a kiss to your temple, letting go of your hands as the guards hauled her back to her feet. They dragged her to the airlock and you attempted to follow, but your father took your place at the glass. He put his hand on it and your mother did the same. You heard him whisper something and she said something, then the airlock opened and your mother disappeared.
“MOM!” You screamed, running for the airlock. Your father caught you before you could reach the glass. You punched against his arm and he motioned for a guard to bring you away.
“Dad?! Dad! Come back!” You reached out for your father as he left the area. You saw something glisten on his cheek, but he was gone before you could get an explanation. Once he was gone, you stopped.
Your body was completely numb. No one was there for you; not anyone you knew, at least. You allowed the guards to take you back to your home and pack up everything, one of them taking the box of your mother's things away forever and you bringing yours to your new home, which you would find out quickly that it would be anything but.
When you opened your eyes again, a tear trailed down your face and you were back on Earth. Bellamy looked at Clarke and she looked back, and before you knew it you were at the back of the crowd with Clarke and Raven, talking in hushed voices.
“Take this,” She shoved her gun into Bellamy’s hand.
“What are you doing?” Bellamy questioned the woman.
“I’m gonna talk to the commander.” She stated.
“What else do you have to say?” He asked.
“I don’t know!” Was her frustrated reply.
“Give me your hand.” Raven said, causing Clarke to turn and face her.
The brunette took Clarke's wrist and slipped a small blade into her sleeve. “If she won’t let him go, kill her.”
“Things’ll go crazy, and we’ll grab you and Finn.” She explained her plan. “Clarke, you have to help him. I owe him my life.”
You empathized with Raven, feeling her loss. It wasn’t hard, you’ve lost a lot in your life, too. Bellamy let go of your hand and opened the door for Clarke to go through and then stood on Raven’s other side at the fence, watching in anticipation of if she would pull it off.
“What is she doing?” Raven asked.
“I don’t know,” You replied honestly. You saw her talking to the commander, then the grounders began to shout.
They dragged Finn out and into your sight, tying him to the pole. Not long after that, she ran to Finn and kissed him, standing in front of him. You watched as she hugged him, confused on what she was doing. It wasn’t until she pulled away and Finn didn’t raise his head that you knew.
She turned to face you and your heart dropped. The blade Raven gave her was in her blood-covered hand, and Finn’s abdomen, along with her shirt, were soaked in blood. She killed Finn so he wouldn’t have to endure the pain of a grounder punishment.
Raven cried out beside you, falling to the floor. You wrapped your arms around her, as did Bellamy, and you kissed her shoulder in comfort, although you were sure it didn’t do anything to help. You cradled Raven in your arms, the way that anyone should after the loss of a loved one. She cried into your shirt and Bellamy let go of her, kneeling on the floor.
You rubbed her back and kissed the top of her head, praying that she wouldn’t have to deal with half of the pain that you went through. The loss of a loved one is the worst pain imaginable, so you made a promise to yourself in that moment that Raven wouldn’t deal with it alone. She would not have to wake up with no one to greet her, no one to ask how her day was.
You would help her if she needed it, and back off if she asked. But as you looked out to where Clarke stood, covered in the blood of the man she loved, you wondered how things were going to be with the grounders, and if you were truly at war with them now.
Day 50
100 Days of 100 Prompts
(Another fix it/time travel idea) Octavia ended up in the past after being sucked into the anomaly and Bellarke go after her. Bellamy wakes up on the dropship just as they land. He’s confused, kind of freaking out but still goes to the lever. The deja vu makes him turn to look for Clarke who had told him to stop the last time. His eyes found her right at the front of the crowd and he cocked his head at her. She grinned at him but still didn’t say anything and he felt his lips quirk up, “Not gonna say it this time?” He asked her. She shrugs at him and cheekily replies, “If the air’s toxic we’re all dead anyway, right?” He shakes his head in amusement and then hears Octavia call his name. He looks over to find her looking back and forth between him and Clarke but she doesn’t rush him in a hug like last time. He isn’t sure which version of his sister this is but tentatively asks, “You alright there O?” She smiles, “Just been waiting on you guys to finally show up. Bilaik yu biga bro?” ‘It is you big brother?’ She asked. “Sha, Strisis, bilaik ai.” ‘Yes, little sister, It’s me.’ With that she cried out in happiness and ran to hug him before looking over at Clarke. “Sha, ai seintaim.” ‘Yea, me too’ She said with a grin and Octavia launched herself into her arms too. She might never have been very close with Clarke before but after being stuck in the past alone for so long, she’d take who she could get. Besides, she knew by now that where her brother went, Clarke would inevitably follow. Better her than the spy. Some kids tell them to hurry up and knock it off with the babble so O turns to put them in their place saying the line she used the first time and then Bellamy pulls the lever and O steps foot on Earth. Later they’ll try to figure out what happened, why the anomaly sent them here, how it’s possible. They’ll wonder if they can change anything and how that will affect the future. They are in their younger bodies so they don’t have to worry about erasing themselves out of the time line at least. They argue a plan for days while getting the camp set up back to it’s previous ‘glory’. Bellamy uses his power of speech to get everyone motivated about being free and independent and they pretty much all fall in line. He keeps an eye on Murphy to stop him from being too big of a dick and has a talk with Charlotte. Clarke makes nice with Wells and stays well away from Finn. Octavia however just keeps watching the trees when she isn’t crafting a makeshift blade out of scrap metal. She’s waiting for any sign of Lincoln. They never attempt to go to mount weather. They stick to their area and only venture out to hunt, gather, and collect water. They get the supplies from the bunkers they already know about. They have plenty of guns and ammo this time after looking harder and finding the ones Kane said they missed. Clarke makes sure to grab the pencils and anything else useful from the ‘art supply store’ bunker as well. They still take off their wristbands to make sure Raven comes down but they use her radio to contact the ark asap. The culling never happens. Bellamy gives up every name he knows involved in the resistance. He says he wasn’t part of it, that they used him by holding his sister as bait and he was just trying to protect her. It gains him a pardon. Clarke tells her mom about the people in mount weather, how they are hostile. She pretends she saw them in suits with guns in the woods. She tells them about the grounders and how they are wary but not completely unreasonable. Perhaps she even tries to talk with them before that. She goes into the woods and says “Ai laik Klark kom Skaikru. Beja, teik ai gon oyo heda.” ‘I am Clarke of the Sky People. Please, take me to your leader.’ She gets dragged off to Anya who asks why she shouldn’t just kill her now and be done with it. Clarke will tell her she can help her against the mountain men, that she knows their tech and how to get around it, she can cure the reapers. Indra calls her a liar. Anya however looks like shes considering it but wants to know how Clarke knows so much, their language, their enemies, how to defeat them, after only being on the ground for so short a time. Clarke will tell her that she’ll explain once there is some mutual trust between them but for now it’s enough that she DOES know. Anya will ask why she should trust her and Clarke will shrug and say they haven’t attacked yet, despite the knowledge and weapons to do so, that she just wants to be allies, have peace between them. (Maybe try to figure out the translation for ‘I’d like to speak to your leader’ instead. ‘Eake me to your leader’ just reminds me of aliens lol) So they have a truce for now and Lexa might come down to assess them. Sydney and her shitheads are mostly taken care of. The ark will send the exodus which frees up some oxygen for the rest. They can survive a little longer now. They check radiation levels and figure out how much time they have till the death wave and start making plans. The oxygenator they found in the lighthouse wont work for the whole ark but it will definitively help. Should they even bother with the mountain at this point? Maybe they can make a deal with them since they don’t know about the death wave. They need grounders to survive, to filter the radiation they get exposed to at times but the grounders are all about to go underground themselves. So if the mountain takes in an equal number of Skaikru (so neither party has the upper hand and kills off the other) then Skaikru will donate blood/marrow for the living space for 5 years. There’s too much animosity with the grounders so it’d have to be Skaikru. There would also be plenty of Skaikru members left to help run the bunker in Polis. Perhaps Clarke even gets her mother to make night blood before coming down and injects it into the people willing to ride it out topside. They can stay in Becca’s lab for the wave itself and then make their way to the valley or just be in the valley to start with since Madi survived there just fine. They could try to round up some animals to keep sheltered and see if they survive the radiation and gather up plenty of seeds or transplant things not in the area. They can get a nice village going, have enough people to free the polis bunker (after warning them of the soybean failure and giving them Monty’s algae recipe. Fuck omon gon oson) and be ready for when Eligius arrives. Clarke will go out with Bellamy and just shout ‘Welcome!’ at them while waving with a basket of food. She will look so inviting that Diyoza forces the others to lower their weapons as she goes to talk to her. (because im naive enough to believe that will work because everyone wants peace lol) Clarke and Bellamy will tell them they can stay if they behave, that this is a peaceful valley BUT jus drein jus daun. That means McCreary is gonna get killed real fast, along with a few other violent criminals. Perhaps Diyoza will even tell them who to keep an eye on because all she wants to do is raise her baby girl in peace and fuck the drama. Clarke and Bellamy are the unofficial leaders here. Lexa is still in Polis where some of the grounders and Skaikru have decided to remain and rebuild since they have the farm in the bunker and Monty’s algae for the soil. But, if Lexa never died then we don’t get Wonkru. Perhaps they stay traditional in the bunker with the different clans. But the valley would end up becoming wonkru, ironically. Perhaps thats one reason the others stick close to polis instead, they prefer the tradition of the clans and coalition to the more relaxed family feel of the valley. Though it’d be fun if Roan made an appearance, maybe he can retire down to the valley for a while. Anywho. Bellarke and Linctavia live HEA
Oh, Hello There
Pairings: Finn Collins x Reader
Warnings: none
Summary: you find Finn’s “art store” (the hidden bunker) but neither of you know that the other knows about it until you run into each other there.
Notes: I haven’t watched the first season of The 100 in a while so I don’t have the clearest memory of when the events took place. The gif isn’t mine.
Masterlist ~ Prompt/Request
The moon shone brightly through the trees as you put on your shoes and slipped out of your tent inside of the walls near the drop ship. You were thankful for it since you had no flashlight and not very well experienced with the terrain just yet.
You had had an extremely stressful day with the rising tensions between all of the 100. Multiple fights had broken out that day and you, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, had accidentally ended up in the middle of one of them. So you thought that you deserved a bit of a break from everyone else.
You had discovered the hidden bunker about a week before the whole Murphy incident. It was completely by accident and had happened when you were out hunting for food. But you were very thankful that you had found it.
You weren’t the most talkative person and normally stuck to behind the scenes work. You helped Clarke deal with people’s injuries a lot and you often volunteered yourself to Bellamy for hunting trips or explorations, but you knew that neither of them knew your name. You were actually pretty sure that almost nobody in camp knew who you were, but that was alright, you liked it that way because it made sneaking away for some time alone so much easier.
Now you quietly crept through camp and over the wall using the ladder that you had built and kept hidden for moments like these. Once you reached the top, you jumped over to the ground on the other side, landing lightly on your toes.
You walked through the trees, following the very subtle marks that you had made to lead you back to the bunker. They were unnoticeable unless you knew they were there and if you were looking for them, and of course, you were.
Finally, you reached the bunker and quietly slipped in. Once you were inside and had closed the door tightly, you lit a candle and then found a small bottle of some sort of alcohol. You popped it open and poured yourself a glass from one of the cupboards. Then you sat down at the table with a book that you had found and were now about a quarter of the way through.
You had been reading and just chilling out in general for about an hour when you heard the door start to creak. You weren’t sure if it was just the wind but you snuffed out the candle and put everything as it was before anyways. You grabbed your knife and hid in a dark corner, ready for a grounder or someone to come in ready to kill you.
You heard the door open and somebody step inside and move towards where you were but you didn’t think they had seen you yet. Then the area was flooded with light from a lantern causing you to shield your eyes.
“AH!” The person screamed and jumped back, knocking into the table. “Please don’t kill me! I didn’t know anyone was here! I promise!” It was only then that you kind of recognized the voice and you looked up to see Finn with his arms over his head protectively and watching you from a little space in between.
“Y/n?” He asked when he could see who it was.
“Finn? What are you doing here?” You asked gesturing to the room.
“I could ask you the same thing. But how about you put the knife down and then we can talk” Finn said warily as he watched the knife in your hand closely.
“Oh right yeah sorry” You put the knife back into its sheath and then pulled out the chair at the table to sit down. “So what are you doing here? How did you find this place?”
“Probably the same way as you: by accident.”
“Yeah... I found this place when I was out on a hunting trip a couple of weeks ago. I had gotten lost and couldn’t find my way back to camp. Thank goodness nobody noticed that I was gone though, they would have wanted to know where I’d been.”
“I noticed.” Finn stated simply.
“What?” You asked with a bit of furrow in your brow.
“I noticed that you were gone. You didn’t come back that night, I was worried that you’d been captured by Grounders.”
“Why didn’t you do anything then?” Finn flinched slightly at your tone. You hadn’t meant to sound accusatory, you were honestly just curious. You were very used to people not noticing you and not following through with things for you, so him not doing anything about it really didn’t worry you.
“I did. Jasper and I went out that night to look for you, but by the time we got back to camp the next morning you were already back. I meant to talk to you about it, but then everything with Murphy and Charlotte happened.” He looked up at you through his long lashes that you loved so much. Even on the Arc you had had a thing for him, but you always knew that he liked Raven and Clarke, so you were pretty happy just being friends.
“Oh, I didn’t know that. Thank you, you’re probably the only person on camp who noticed,” You smiled at him.
“You’d be surprised. People may not have noticed that you were gone, but they definitely noticed that there wasn’t as much food and that it wasn’t as good. I’m sorry, that sounded rude, I promise I didn’t mean it that way.” He said quickly and grew a little bit red in the cheeks.
“It’s okay,” You laughed. “It really doesn’t bother me. I’m just glad that I’m a better hunter than Laura and Harry (made up people). So why are you here at this time of night?”
“I don’t know, I just came to get away from everyone for a bit, camp has been really rough lately. What about you?”
“Same deal, tensions have been running really high. I just needed a break to get my nerves under control. How long are you planning on staying here?” You asked but then added quickly, “It’s not that I want you to leave, you can come and go whenever you want, I don’t really care.”
Now it was Finn’s turn to laugh, “Don’t worry y/n, I know what you mean. I was thinking about staying all night and then going back right before everyone wakes up. You’re welcome to stay if you’d like.”
“If you don’t mind, I think I’ll take you up on that offer,” you smiled at him warmly. The two of you sat talking for pretty much the entire night until you were both yawning and your sentences slowly became more sleepy.
“I think... I think we should probably catch some sleep,” Finn suggested.
“I agree, you can take the bed, I’ll sleep on the couch...” but when you looked back at him he had already slumped over on the couch and was absolutely passed out. You chuckled under your breath and situated him so that he was laying down properly and put a blanket over him.
“Good night Finn,” you whispered and then lay down on the bed facing the wall. Before, you had thought that it would be awful if somebody else found this bunker and it would no longer be your ‘sacred’ place. But now that you and Finn had stumbled across each other, you were actually glad that you were able to share this space with someone who you knew you would become very good friends with. And maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if people knew you, maybe it would make this dangerous world just a little more welcoming.
Chapter Thirty
The camp was bustling with people who prepared to leave, but we remained rooted to the spot. Once Clarke stormed away, we were left staring at each other with no desire to move. I tried to force some words out in support of him, but I was so overwhelmed with emotion that I didn’t know if I could find any strength to share.
“For what it’s worth, I want to stay…”
I quickly trailed off as I felt my breath hitch and a single tear slipped out of my carefully controlled facade. I bit my lip in an effort to contain the wave of feelings that was crashing over me but it was too late. Bellamy noticed my reaction and pulled me to a quiet spot so that we could talk without the audience of camp.
“Hey, you’re okay, it’s okay.” He spoke soothingly and put his hands on my shoulders as he leaned down to meet my eyes.
At his kind gesture and concerned eyes, I finally cracked under the pressure. The tears flooded suddenly from me, pouring down my cheeks and I shook violently all over. I was completely unable to consider my actions as the storm exploded in my mind. I threw myself into his chest and he wrapped his arms tightly around me with no hesitation. Although our enormous height difference had been nothing other than an inconvenience until now, especially when I was furiously yelling upward at him, in my despair it became an unexpected blessing. As he squeezed me into him and I tucked my head under his chin, I got the sensation that he was my shield against the world. There was a sense of safety that was foreign to me and it allowed me a moment that I didn’t realise I needed until now, a chance to express weakness. Since our arrival on Earth, I had been exhausted by the constant illusion of strength that I depended on and it was a welcome relief to drop the act for even a few minutes. I closed my eyes tightly as I burrowed my face into his chest and was comforted by the warmth of his body that ran slightly warmer than my own. I was jolted by the image of him dangling by his neck which was burned behind my eyes and not even the safety of his arms could remove it.
“I lost you.” I whispered in a terrified voice and he pushed me back to peek down at me in confusion. “For a few seconds, I lost you.” I confessed as I met his eyes and he furrowed his brows. “When I climbed through the vent and saw you there...I thought you were gone. That image of you hanging, I feel like it will haunt me forever.” A small sob escaped my lips and I abruptly could not manage any more words.
“But I’m not gone. I’m still here thanks to you. You saved my life today, again.” He clarified firmly as he stared into my eyes and carefully brushed away a tear from my cheek.
“It was my fault!” I exclaimed causing him to frown. “I defended him when you wanted to throw him out, I put you in an impossible position and I was cruel to you. Only for it to turn out that you were right all along and it nearly cost you everything!” I hissed in a stressed stutter as I sniffed back any further tears.
“No. It’s not your fault.” He argued in a tone of disbelief as he assessed my expression. “He wanted to kill me because of the decisions that I made. This was on me.” He insisted and I felt guilty for making him reflect on his mistake with Murphy again. I stared at him for a few seconds, absorbing all of the details of how he looked, committing them to memory for fear that one day I might truly need it. He was perfect in the soft afternoon light, even with the worry that dominated his face as he studied me. I couldn’t control the fear that gripped me as I gazed upon him and I realised just how close I’d come to losing him.
“Bellamy, I know that you had to save Jasper and I really am thankful for that. But please, don’t ever take a risk like that again, I don’t think I could go through that- to not be able to get to you-” I stumbled over my words as I strained to explain the panic that I’d felt and fresh tears rolled down my cheeks just at the thought of ever experiencing a repeat of this type of situation. He gently wrapped me in his arms again and my chest wracked as I wept against him.
“Shh.” He soothed, rubbing a hand gently on my back whilst I whimpered. He was tender and comforting as he allowed me to calm down in my own time. I couldn’t tell how long had passed in his embrace and he made no effort to rush me. The world seemed to stop around us as he held me in the quiet bubble of safety and my heart raced when he placed a feather-light kiss on my forehead. I finally felt the shaking in my body slow to a stop and the chaos in my mind subsided. I took a few deep breaths in an effort to regain control and when it was clear that I had settled, he cleared his throat.
“We should probably start packing up, it sounds like the others want to get going as soon as possible.” Bellamy suggested in a soft voice and he patiently waited for me to move first. I reluctantly extracted myself from him and he released me back into the cold air.
“I don’t want to leave, this is our home.” I whispered as I met his eyes with a regretful expression. I was glad that I was finally calm enough to express my thoughts and I could tell from his reaction that he was pleased to find that I was on his side.
“Neither do I.” He sighed in frustration and rubbed the back of his neck thoughtfully. “But, no offence, I don’t think you and I can fight off the grounders, just the two of us, even with your killer shots.” He commented playfully and I managed a small laugh. I noticed that his eyes lit up at the sight of it and it made my stomach flip.
We stood in comfortable silence for a few lingering moments and I explored him with a fond smile. The heat that radiated between us was suffocating, but I couldn’t tear my eyes from him. I was drowning in his deep-set, whisky brown eyes and they gave me the sensation that I was being drawn into him. I couldn’t recognise my own thoughts as my body moved without my consideration. All of the things I’d been told to do by everyone else no longer mattered, all the advice filtered away into silence and my mind offered no guidance. It was as if the world around us fell away until it was just him and I. I stepped closer to him with a desperate need to feel his touch and he obliged as his hand fell naturally onto my arm. My breathing hitched at the contact and I regarded him with sultry eyes. I slowly shifted my weight onto my toes, raising myself up into his space and my hand settled gently on his shoulder. My instincts led me to apply slight pressure, guiding him down to meet me and as he did, our faces grew close enough to feel his hot breath on my skin. This time, my heart wasn’t hammering; my hands were steady, my nerves relaxed and every moment felt exactly right, like it was meant to happen. I felt the tip of my nose touch his cheek and our lips brushed so slightly that I couldn’t feel anything other than the sensation of electricity as it shot through my body.
“Bellamy! Indigo!” A sharp call interrupted us and I jumped back, startled out of the moment. “Come on, we need to go!”
I cleared my throat awkwardly and felt my face burning with heat as the world returned in a crash around me. I couldn’t manage to meet his eyes and instead I stepped past him without another word. I jogged over to Octavia who was inspecting camp for us but I was reassured to find that she didn’t seem to have noticed us yet. She seemed relieved as I reached her.
“Come on, we need to get our tent packed and I’ve got a present for you.” She stated and I forced a smile despite the overwhelming temptation to glance back to Bellamy.
I followed her back to the tent with a heavy feeling of unfinished business. We tried to be efficient in packing, ensuring that we had stowed rations, water and plenty of weapons. Octavia presented me with an assault rifle, assuring me that I was ready for the upgrade and that I would need it for the journey. It took very little time to pack our modest possessions and we left our tent for the last time. I parted from Octavia to check on Raven and wandered into the dropship to find Finn and a couple of others rushing to put together a stretcher. I glanced around worriedly in search of her.
“What’s happening?” I called out to Finn as I observed the commotion that filled the tightly packed space.
“Clarke cauterised the wound but the bullet is still inside.” Finn answered over his shoulder as he worked. “She can’t walk or she’ll move it. We’re gonna carry her.” He stated firmly and I raised my brows at his words. I moved closer to the surface that Raven was lying on and peeked down at her with a heavily guilty expression.
“I shouldn’t have left you, I’m sorry.” I breathed, hardly able to meet her eyes without feeling a surge of anxiety. The calmness that I’d felt with Bellamy had already dissolved and I returned to stressing over the consequences of my choices. She reached over to take my hand in hers and squeezed it firmly to draw my attention to her face.
“Hey, don’t do that.” She asserted, leaning forward to force me to meet her eyes. “You did what you had to. I’m gonna be fine.” She confirmed as she smiled at me supportively and I sighed.
“I should be the one reassuring you right now.” I confessed guilty and she chuckled under her breath before flinching from pain.
“Indie, we need to get going.” Finn cleared his throat and spoke in a hurried voice. “We’ve gotta get her ready to move.” He ordered and I nodded back at him in acknowledgement. I smiled appreciatively at her and squeezed her hand one last time before stepping out of their way.
I couldn’t stand to watch how delicate she was as they lifted her into the stretcher, so I returned outside to find Octavia. I scanned the stripped, bare looking camp as people started to gather together to leave. I felt a sense of reluctance as I reflected that this would be the last time I would see the place that I now considered home and before I could think twice about the decision to leave, it was time. I noticed that Bellamy was searching around for someone as we organised into a planned formation. I hid in the crowd, sticking closely to Octavia as I tried to avoid his notice. I couldn’t pretend that I hadn’t almost kissed him a few moments ago and the idea of discussing this at such an emotionally charged time was overwhelming. As the gates opened and we all filed out, Octavia and I walked side by side. I wasn’t sure how we ended up leading at the front of the pack and I was relieved to hear quiet pockets of conversation happening around us. Octavia shot at an analysing look at me and I prepared myself for a grilling.
“You alright over there? You look like you’ve got a lot on your mind?” She quizzed in a poor attempt at a light tone. I could easily identify the warring emotions in her eyes that she tried to cover with a brave face and I smiled weakly at her in a similar manner.
“I’m fine, it just feels strange to be leaving. It’s been insane here, but it finally feels like home.” I sighed in an avoidant manner. I didn’t consider it lying, it was troubling to leave our camp for uncertain shores. I couldn’t discuss the issues with Bellamy whilst we were so crowded with people so I stuck to the simple issues. I tried to keep my guard up as I spoke, scanning our surroundings for any sign of grounders. “Plus, I can’t let go of the niggling feeling that we’re leaving Monty behind.” I confessed as I acknowledged the knot in my stomach.
“I know what you mean.” She sighed deeply and I peeked at her in concern. “Finn says there’s no way Lincoln survived with the odds that were against him, but I still feel like I’m abandoning him.” She breathed and I could easily recognise the reluctance that was in her eyes now I took a moment to examine her.
“Hey, your boyfriend’s a grounder Octavia, I wouldn’t count him out. Last time you said goodbye, he turned up again just in time to save our friends. I get the feeling we haven’t seen the last of him.” I stated firmly and my words earned the hint of a smile in the corner of her lips. “Now, I just have to convince myself to feel the same about Monty.” I muttered, as I returned my attention to our surroundings. “Maybe I’ll even get really lucky and we’ll run into Murphy.” I added bitterly and noticed that my grip on the comically large gun in my hands got tighter. Octavia glimpsed at me with her brows knitted together in worry and I could sense that she was assessing me.
“That whole thing with Bellamy really messed you up, huh?” She probed and I flinched at her perceptiveness. I maintained a careful measure of the anger in my voice as I answered her.
“For a minute when I first got to him, I thought he was dead. I’ve never been so terrified.” I whispered, before shaking my head violently to dislodge the agonising memory that replayed in my brain. “But what made it worse was that I trusted Murphy, I gave him a second chance. I defended him, I patched his wounds, I fucking comforted him. I need to pay him back for that.” I spat with a fury that rose like acid from my stomach as I remembered his convincing little act.
“Well, I hope you get your chance.” She commented and I was surprised to find bitterness in her tone too. “I certainly wouldn’t mind getting a few hits in.” She added, gritting her teeth as she spoke and I remembered her frantic cries on the radio whilst I hid in the bottom of the dropship with understanding.
“I’m pretty sure there will be a queue.” I chuckled darkly under my breath and she nodded back at me with amusement.
We continued in silence through the forest with our eyes trained on our surroundings as we gripped our guns nervously. Octavia stopped abruptly on the spot and held a hand up to halt the following group. I raised my gun to stare through the scope and held my breath as I scanned the area in nervous anticipation. There were several panicked comments from behind as those around us strained to see what had alarmed Octavia, but like the rest of them I couldn’t see anything. In a flash, something shot through the air and planted itself into the face of the man standing behind us.
“Grounders!” Jasper yelled in a deafening roar, spiralling the group into a panic.
Octavia and I fell into positions to navigate the group back towards camp, with people rushing frantically to get behind the walls. As we reached the gates Jasper ran ahead of us and positioned himself on the wall to cover our return. Octavia placed herself at the gate to guide people inside and I witnessed Bellamy out of the corner of my eye. He climbed up beside Jasper to cover the gate, so I quickly took a position on the other side to provide full covering fire if needed. The gates slowly dragged closed as the last of our people filtered inside and I continued to stare out between the trees, scouring for any sign of movement. I could hear Bellamy, Clarke and the usual leadership building into an argument over whether to stay or go again and I glanced over at Jasper. As it seemed we were the only two people that were still on watch for an attack, I opted not to get involved this time and allowed them to fight until someone was victorious. I couldn’t deny that I was pleased when they agreed to stay and fight, as I felt that running was the wrong choice from the beginning.
“Okay then. This is what we’ve been preparing for, kill them before they kill us. Gunners to your posts. Use the tunnels to get in and out, from now on the gate stays closed.” Bellamy addressed the crowd assertively and they immediately sprang into action, running to their assigned posts.
I glanced around nervously at the bustling camp. I’d learned the routes to the foxholes, but I was busy setting up landmines as part of Raven’s crew the night that groups were assigned and I suspected that Bellamy hadn’t assigned me a role on purpose. I witnessed him halt Octavia in her tracks as she headed for a tunnel with a sword that Finn had gifted her from Lincoln. I seized the moment to sneak past whilst he was distracted. I followed Jasper as he moved with a determined purpose and I overheard Octavia firmly informing Bellamy that she was a grounder now. I smiled in amusement at her newly developed confidence and was proud that she had finally found her place. As I neared the exit from camp, I had to pause as she jumped into the tunnel just ahead of me. Unfortunately, she carried Bellamy’s attention with her and he reached out to snatch my arm in the first second that he registered my presence.
“No, not you too.” He spoke firmly but the grip that he clung to me with revealed his desperation. I met his eyes with an apologetic expression but I couldn’t deny my frustration with him for even attempting to keep me out of this.
“Come on Bellamy, you said yourself that you need my aim. It’ll take everyone we have for us to survive this.” I argued in a bid to reach his sensible nature but he simply furrowed his brow at me regretfully.
“I know, and I understand why you want to fight but…” His voice trailed off and his gaze fell to his boots as he shuffled awkwardly on the spot. “Does it have to be you two?” He asked as he met my eyes with an insecurity that was unfamiliar on him.
“You don’t have to worry about us, we can do this.” I responded with a reassuring smile and I gazed at him sympathetically. I understood his concern; I hated the idea of him and Octavia fighting, but when I considered what would happen to them if the grounders got inside, I knew that I had no other choice. “I’ll stay with Jasper and see you back here when we win.” I expressed, squeezing his arm with a smile and he finally loosened his grip on me with an anxious look. I turned from him and rushed into the tunnel before I could think twice.
Once in the cramped space of the foxhole with Jasper and Harper, we waited in nervous silence. The radio Jasper was holding crackled and he held it up for us to hear.
“All foxholes, listen up.” Bellamy’s voice announced and I sat up straighter as I waited for instructions. “Keep your eyes and ears open. Inflict casualties, as many as possible. You can hold them off for long enough to make them turn back. That’s the plan.” He cut off abruptly and I could only imagine the argument that was currently taking place between the leadership.
“So our plan is to scare them off?” Harper repeated as she glimpsed between the two of us in disbelief.
“We don’t have enough of anything to kill them all.” Jasper explained and his eyes grew wide as his fear became clear in his movements. I realised that this was difficult for him and I wished that there was a way to protect him from the fight that was unfortunately inevitable.
“We don’t need to kill them all.” I stated firmly, drawing his attention to me. “We just have to kill enough to make them think that we will.” I smiled in an attempt to reassure them, despite my own reservations about the reliability of this plan.
We waited for what seemed like hours as the tension grew thick in the air. Harper kept watch whilst Jasper gave his best effort to build my confidence in the new gun. I hadn’t had a chance to even test firing something this size and we didn’t have the bullets left for me to practice. We got comfortable sitting with the muzzles of our guns pointing out of the shelter and kept our eyes keenly trained for any sign of movement. Jasper suddenly tensed and I caught the distant sound of drums as his eyes widened.
“We can do this Jasper, you’re not alone.” I whispered as I met his terrified eyes and he nodded back shakily. I could feel a slight tremble in my hands and took a long, slow breath to steady myself.
“I see them, they’re moving!”
Stirling’s frantic voice on the radio alerted us to the start of the battle, but we couldn’t see anything in the area surrounding our foxhole. There were several other panicked responses as other foxholes identified grounders but from the information that was given, no one seemed to be able to hit them. We waited, staring at the trees until I caught a flash of movement out of the corner of my eye. Within seconds they descended on the area and Jasper was shooting in a panic.
“They’re everywhere! Harper, get down!” He panted as he sprayed bullets at random in every direction and I could barely hear over the incredible noise of the gun. “We need backup!” He called down the radio in a fluster, joining the flurry of manic messages that flooded through. I put a hand on his arm and shook him to get through his shock.
“Jasper, stop shooting! We don’t have enough bullets to fire at random!” I yelled in an effort to reach his logical nature and he caught sight of me with a panic stricken expression. “Don’t shoot unless you know you can hit them, otherwise let the landmines do their job!” I ordered firmly and he nodded back nervously.
We resumed our positions, waiting for the movement to return after Jasper had scared them off as we watched down the barrel of our guns. It was barely seconds before grounders sprinted past us again and a bomb exploded just ahead of the foxhole. We glanced at each other in an elated mixture of surprise and excitement.
“Raven, our mines actually worked!” Jasper announced into the radio in an ecstatic voice. We high fived in a moment of childish delight and grinned widely at each other. It was comforting to experience a fleeting moment of friendship in the middle of the chaos and I was thankful that I’d chosen to follow him.
“Jasper, we need you in the dropship right now.” Clarke’s voice declared over the radio at the perfect timing to force us back into reality and my face dropped at the realisation that he couldn’t remain at my side.
“Negative, we can’t give up the west woods.” Bellamy argued in an overly aggressive tone and although I knew that he was speaking from a tactical perspective, I couldn’t help feeling that some of his reluctance to allow Jasper to leave was because he knew that I was here.
“The west woods are mined Bellamy, the grounders just figured that out!” Clarke’s sharp voice responded and her impatience was clear even through the radio. “Jasper get in here.” She demanded and I felt my stomach churn as I considered what could cause such a desperate reaction from her. I had to force my mind to remain focused as I wondered if some part of the plan had already gone wrong. Before Bellamy could continue to make excuses, I snatched the radio from Jasper’s hands.
“Who said anything about giving up, we’re still out here!” I taunted in a determined tone as I smiled at Harper and signalled to Jasper to go. He assessed me for a long moment in concern, before reluctantly tearing himself away and climbing into the tunnels towards camp. “Harper and I have got this, girl power and all that shit.” I smirked in the hope that I could inspire confidence in her nervous face. I leaned over to offer her a fist bump with a playful wink. She slowly bumped her fist against mine and a small smile crept in at the corner of her lips. “Only take the shot if you’re sure, make every bullet we have left count, alright?” I recapped assertively.
“I see one, there! There!” She exclaimed as she pointed ahead and I stared down the barrel at the rapidly moving blur as it passed through the trees. I held the gun tightly in place and was ready to shoot at any sign of threat, until another mine went off and I widened my eyes in understanding.
“They’re drawing our fire!” I breathed as I kicked myself for not analysing their tactics sooner. “Harper, keep an eye out but don’t shoot unless it comes at you.” I spoke sternly and although she was obviously terrified, she nodded in acknowledgement. I snatched up the radio that Jasper had left on the floor and took a deep breath to prepare myself to take control of the situation. “All gunners! The grounders are not attacking, they want us to waste our bullets. Don’t shoot whilst they’re just running around, let the mines pick them off and only shoot when you absolutely have to!” I quickly passed the information so that I could stow the radio and resume my grip on the gun.
“Indigo's right, don’t fire until you’re sure it’s an attack!” Bellamy’s reply was prompt and I smiled involuntarily. I was reassured to hear his voice, not only because I enjoyed knowing that I’d been able to prove myself but also because it meant that he was still safe. “Repeat, do not fire until you’re sure.” He confirmed and I glanced over to smile at Harper, only to find that she was shaking from head to toe. I sighed sympathetically at her.
“You can do this, we’re not gonna let them past. I’ve got your back.” I reassured sternly, before returning my focus to the space in front of the foxhole. I observed several grounders emerging from the trees and just as I was lining up my aim, I realised that they were leading a hoard that was crowded into a tight formation.
“Shit.” I spat under my breath as I felt dread creeping down my spine. “Okay, take slow shots, make sure you get a grounder in the face with every single one.” I gave my instructions clearly to Harper and she met my eyes with horror as she clocked the approaching force. “The second you’re out of bullets, you get back up those tunnels and you don’t look back.” I ordered and I was proud to discover that she wasted no time in following the command. I switched the radio on and leaned it against a surface so that I could talk and shoot at the same time. “West foxhole, the grounders are attacking! At least 50 in a unit right in front of us! We’ll use the ammo we have and pull back. This is it gunners, hold your ground and make them pay for every life they’ve taken from us!” I reported in the hope that I could inspire confidence as I stared down the scope with determination. Harper was as efficient as I demanded, but by her fourth shot she was done. She regarded me with wide, terrified eyes.
“Go, get out of here, I’ll be right behind you!” I shouted forcefully. I was only on my second shot and had no intention of quitting whilst I could still shoot. She surveyed the group that was closing in, then peeked at me with a final reluctant glance before she frantically jumped into the tunnel. I took a deep breath and attempted to stay focused on the rapidly approaching horde. I knew that once they passed this checkpoint, there was nothing left between them and Bellamy. I was the last stand at protecting him and everyone else I cared about, and I knew that I had to bring down every last grounder that I could. I fired again, resulting in a shot that hit one of the troops directly in the face and they sank to the ground in a satisfying manner. Three shots. I moved my barrel to focus on the next target with a determined fire in my gut. I took another steadying breath, finding it hard to keep calm as I acknowledged that they were barely metres away. I squeezed the trigger and another shot launched from the barrel, landing squarely in my target's chest. They stumbled in a shocked reaction but quickly recovered to continue marching toward me. Four shots.
“Indie, what are you still doing in there?! Get out!”
Bellamy’s frantic voice filled the space and I realised with horror that the radio was still on; he could still hear me shooting. I aimed one more time at the same attacker’s face, imagining him reaching Bellamy to bully myself into remaining in the foxhole despite the growing risk. My heart skipped a beat as I squeezed the trigger and the bullet flew right on target, stopping one more grounder dead. Five shots. The gun jammed in a telltale sound and I realised almost too late that they were right on top of me. I dove into the tunnel in blind faith just as they reached the foxhole and the leading grounder swung an axe into the centre of it. I barely escaped the assault by a couple of inches and slammed closed the entrance to the tunnel behind me. I noticed with horror that I’d left the radio behind but I had to force myself to concentrate on manically crawling through the tight space to reach camp. I had to get in, find another gun and get to Bellamy before the grounder’s forces did. I knew that there were only two others with him at the final position and that it was impossible for them to last against the numbers that were stalking toward them. Every part of my mind focused on getting to him as I rushed through the tunnel and I felt my chest tightening with anxiety. The same thought echoed over and over in my mind: I can’t lose him.
viii. illness.
The fear of grounders and the strange unknown past the safe walls of the dropship was enough reason for the delinquents to pull their weight around camp. That was how Bellamy developed a routine for their camp to survive, to thrive — one group cut the wood, another group used the good wood to build the walls, and another would use the bad wood to control designated campfires, while another group would bring back buckets of water to the camp to boil. Etc, etc. Since Bellamy was the only adult in the entire camp, the delinquents listened to him.
Until he brought back the grounder.
Well, he didn’t want to bring back the grounder. Octavia and Raven had sneaked them in. All Bellamy did was carry them to camp until they went batshit crazy and attacked him. And, no offense to Wells, but he only carried them because he wanted to get back to camp as soon as possible, preferably without arrows in his back. Wells was far too slow, and Bellamy still remembered the way his knees trembled under their weight, ready to give out at any moment. Bellamy couldn’t blame him — when Octavia transferred the grounder’s body on his back, he felt as if he were Atlas carrying the world on his back.
Needless to say, Bellamy had woken up the next day sore in muscles he didn’t know he had.
Don’t get it twisted, though. It wasn’t like the delinquents would ignore him or anything of the sort. But now some of them would hesitantly say they would do it later, and the bolder ones would straight up say they have too many chores on their plate.
One choice, one grounder, and suddenly his reputation changed. Bellamy didn’t know if the delinquents were losing faith in him as their leader, or worse, thought of him as soft. His hands clenched into fists at the idea of being gentle with a grounder.
And if that weren’t enough, the one night he went out with the Exodus scavenger group, there had been a conflict between Harper and the grounder. He thought he had been specific enough with the guards, but not enough, he supposed.
“Don’t let them out of this tent for whatever reason.” Bellamy told the guards. “If you have to use force, do so. If you have to tie them up to the bed, do it.”
The moment he and Clarke had been informed what happened, he prepared for another round or two of arguing, but to his surprise, not only Clarke and Octavia defended the grounder, Monty did as well.
“As much as Jasper’s my bro,” Monty sighed, shaking his head, “he was being a real dick about the situation. So was Harper.”
One grounder shaped headache turned into a Murphy shaped migraine, with his sudden appearance and capture while they were gone. And if that weren’t enough, Murphy had also brought a disease with him. Derek practically coughed up a lung before he died in the dropship, surrounded by a pool of his own blood, and Bellamy could only stare at his body while Clarke poured alcohol in his hands.
“Bellamy!”
He startled, shaken out of his thoughts. “Mmh. Sorry. What do you think we should do?"
“Quarantine. It’s the only way.” Clarke turned to Finn and dumped the rest of the alcohol on his hands. “Round up everyone who had contact with Murphy and bring them here.”
Finn wordlessly nodded and ran off. Bellamy looked back at Clarke. “What about everyone they had contact with?”
“Well, we have to start somewhere.” She responded, facing Connor on the floor. “Connor, who was with you when you found him? Who carried him in?”
The boy took a deep breath, still unnerved that he could die at any moment because of this disease. “F-First one there was O-Octavia.” He managed to stutter out.
Bellamy wished he hadn’t.
Clarke’s voice barely registered in Bellamy’s mind as he sprinted out of the drophip to find his little sister.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Lying on their stomach, arms crossed under their pillow, drool pooling beneath their cheek, Kova woke up with one instinctual thought screaming out a warning.
‘Someone is inside my tent.’
The hair on the back of their neck pricked up. A ripple ran across the fabric of the tent. Definitely not Octavia or Clarke, based on the heavy and uncertain footsteps entering the tent. Definitely not Wells — he wouldn’t sneak into their tent in the first place.
No, whoever this may be, they wore heavier boots.
The conflict last night came to mind, with two faces at the forefront. Jasper and… Harper, was it? Although they couldn’t remember what the two gunners wore last night, Kova couldn’t think of anyone else who would willingly enter their tent, regardless of intentions.
While this certainly wouldn’t be the first time someone tried to kill them in their sleep, Kova had no intention of making it their very last time, either.
Acting as if they had been disturbed in their sleep, they shifted and rolled onto their side, grumbling bleary nonsense, and strategically placed their hand by the pile of clothes. The footsteps had stopped when Kova moved, then resumed a few moments after Kova stilled.
The footsteps approached their bed, heavier, determined.
Snatching a dagger from the pile of clothes and holsters, they flipped the handle and swung their arm back at knee-level. Just before the knife tore out a tendon, Kova caught a glimpse at the intruder’s face and stopped the swing just before the point could prick at Bellamy’s skin.
Startled at the sudden attack, Bellamy took a step back far too late if Kova had gone through with their attack. Irritation passed over his features, face tightening. All he wanted was to find his sister for fucks sake, not get shanked in the leg by some grounder. "What do you think you're doing?"
Losing momentum from the swing, Kova flopped back onto the bed and face planted into their pillow. “Tch, shouldn’t I be asking you that?” They grumbled out as they pushed themselves up. “What made you think sneaking up on me would be a good idea?”
“Wasn’t trying to.” His eyes narrowed. “How did you get a weapon?”
Kova notably froze, muscles tensing, before they relaxed and the lie easily slipped off their tongue, “Stole it. Your guards aren’t very good at guarding.”
That seemed to spark an angry fire behind Bellamy’s eyes, but before he could rise to their bait, he shook his head. “No, you know what? We’re not doing this right now. Where’s Octavia?”
“A-Oct?” They whipped their head towards him in shock. “Why? Did something happen?”
“The fuck did you just call her?”
“It’s a nickname, relax. I haven’t seen her since last night. You didn’t answer my question.”
“One of ours came back yesterday — Murphy. Your people infected him with something and sent him here. One of the guards just died from it and the one that survived said Octavia had first contact with Murphy.”
‘Ah. That name. Lincoln mentioned it before.’ Kova grabbed their clothes wordlessly and tied their dreads back in a low bun. They swung one leg over the bed and used their hands to guide the injured leg to follow.
“What are you doing?”
They snapped their head up. Bellamy watched them with confusion written on his face. “What does it look like?” They didn’t bother with the armor and kept their undershirt on, pulling their jacket on top. “I’m going. You find Octavia, I’ll help Clarke or whoever with Murphy and the infected.”
“And who said you’re allowed to do all that?” His question came through gritted teeth.
“I did.” They stuck their feet into their pant holes and stood up, wincing at the stretch of both the bandage and the cut. They stepped closer to him as they tied off their pants around their hips. “What will you do, stop me?”
To his frustration and their satisfaction, they sent him an obnoxious smirk when their eyes met, and to top it all off, they bent over and picked up their boots that were next to Bellamy before sitting back on the bed, shoving their feet in. “Unless you want your little sister running off to my bad little brother for information.”
His jaw tightened. Bait caught, fish captured. With a resigned look, Bellamy gestured with his hand for them to hurry up. Kova looked down to tie off their boots, only for an open hand to appear in their sight. Bellamy twitched his fingers. They looked up at him, confused.
“Cough it up.”
“What?”
“What else? The knife.”
“Seriously?” They gave a sigh at his glare and reached behind, passing him the dagger. Hopefully he wouldn’t notice it didn’t belong to the invaders. He barely glanced at it before he tucked it beneath his belt—
“Clarke!!”
The two shot up. They glanced at each other briefly, wearily, before they left the tent. Kova left their mask behind.
The entire camp was in chaos — the delinquents ran around in a frenzy while their friends bled out of their eyes and ears. Some had already fallen to the ground, twitching every once in a while.
Kova cursed, watching the horrifying scene with wide eyes. They snapped out of it with a shake of their head and grabbed Bellamy’s arm. “Go find Octavia and bring her to your dropship. She has to get checked out ASAP.”
Bellamy didn’t need telling twice. He ran off and Kova made their way to the dropship. They pulled back the curtain and was hit with a wave of drying blood, vomit, and death. Suppressing a gag and a wave of memories, they pushed through and found Clarke.
“Kova,” Clarke turned around, the lower half of her face covered by a handkerchief. “You have to stay away, there’s an infection—”
“It’s alright.” They cut her off as they made their way through the first floor, throwing their jacket on top of stacked boxes, carefully making sure they didn’t step on outstretched hands or careless feet. “I’ve been infected with this virus at least three times already. If this strain hasn’t killed you all yet, then it certainly won’t touch me.” They glanced at a dead body at the side of the entrance, covered with a cloth. “Who’s patient zero?”
“Murphy. How did you know—?”
“Bellamy.”
Out of all the responses Clarke would have expected from Kova, Bellamy was not one of them. “You saw him?”
“He was looking for his sister.” They explained. “I can show you what symptoms to keep an eye on, but I need to see Murphy first. I’m no doctor, but I know every strain is different, so what I’ve seen before might not apply here.”
Clarke nodded and brought Kova to the very back of the first floor, where Murphy was resting in a corner, huddled in a blanket. Kova crouched in front of him, taking note of severe visible injuries. Some, unfortunately, very familiar. ‘Tortured. By who? The General?’
Before they could bring up their wounds, the curtains of the entrance flung to the side. Bellamy entered, holding a cloth to his face, dragging Octavia close behind him. The two bee-lined for Clarke.
Kova dropped their knee and turned around. “Clarke, if she’s not visibly sick then you need to look for swelling at the roof and the back of her mouth, her throat, and around the neck. Those are the most common symptoms of this virus.”
Behind them, Murphy stirred awake. Even through his bleariness, he recognized Clarke, Octavia, and Bellamy standing far in front of him, but the person crouched in front of him was unfamiliar. That already rang alarms in his head, seeing as no sky person would be unfamiliar to him. They all grew up with one another, after all.
If their strange clothing didn’t ring the alarm louder, then the tattoos traveling up their arm and the circular welts across the back of their shoulder did. Ice flooded his veins, and he was suddenly much more awake. He kicked out with his feet and pressed his back against the wall.
This, unfortunately for him, alerted whoever was in front of him. They turned and confirmed his suspicions when he saw five dots tattooed along their cheekbone. They turned back to Clarke.
Unfortunately for them, the damage was done. They unknowingly revealed themselves. This wasn’t your average grounder, this was—
“Elephant of Caocin!”
With just a phrase, the question on Kova’s tongue died and shriveled up along with them. Bellamy never thought he would see them with a look of pure fear. But there they were, eyes wide, mouth dropped, breath hitched and caught in their throat, hands trembling and fingers clenching into fists.
Before anyone could break the icy silence, Kova whirled upon Murphy. The boy was smart enough to scramble away from them against the wall, but he must have a death wish, because he actually laughed in their face! “Yeah, that’s right!” His voice was awfully confident for someone cowering away. “I know your dirty little secret, you fucking grounder. Your general and lieutenant had a lot to say about the Elephant of Caocin, the traitor of Tri— whatever the fuck your clan is called—”
“Murphy!” Clarke warned.
“—the scum of the Earth with five drops of ink across their cheek!”
Kova lunged forward, fist colliding across Murphy’s cheek in a satisfying punch. They would have thrown another if it weren’t for two arms linking under their armpits and dragging them away, even as they thrashed and cursed and kicked their legs. Murphy barked out a laugh, even with his cheek bright red and bleeding and his eye already swelling.
“Let. Go!” They hurtled their body away and pressed their hand against the wall, leaning for support, their breaths coming in quick short successions. They had been dragged behind a wall, a barrier between them and Murphy.
They felt the weight of a hand on their shoulder blade, the warmth seeping through their clothes. “…hey.”
“What, Bellamy.” They snapped, but they didn’t reject the touch.
“Murphy’s a dick—”
“Yeah, no shit.”
“and he’ll do anything to get a rise out of someone.” Bellamy continued as if he hadn’t been interrupted. “I don’t know what that shit was about, but don’t forget we’re here for Octavia.”
Their jaw and hand clenched, but Kova nodded, pushing themselves off the wall. They used the back of their hand to scrub their nose and sniffed before rising to their full height. “Right. You’re right. Octavia first.”
He pulled his hand away, and for a second too long, Kova wished he hadn’t. They shook their head and made their way back, shoulders tense. They snatched a group of tongue depressors from one of the tables and brushed past Octavia and Clarke, despite the girls' soft protests. Crouching in front of Murphy, who scrambled away from them, they said, “Open your mouth.”
“Why, will you torture me just like your little friends?” The boy sneered, but his voice wavered in fear.
“No. I need to see if you’ve gotten to the peak of the virus. Open your mouth.”
“Murphy, just let Kova check it out.” Clarke said as she checked Octavia’s throat with a flashlight.
“Since when were you friends with the grounders? Let alone scum like them.” Murphy tried cutting Kova with his words, only to be disappointed that they didn’t respond. Instead, they counted the tongue depressors in their hands and tied them up.
Clarke also ignored him with a roll of her eyes and explained Octavia’s evaluation. “Okay, we’re done here. No visible signs of swelling or bleeding.”
“So you’re saying she doesn’t have it?” Bellamy asked.
While the three talked, Murphy spat in Kova’s face. Luckily for them, they had a feeling he was planning on doing something incredibly stupid and had closed their eyes and mouth just in time.
Three audible gasps came from behind the two. Kova could hear Bellamy’s heavy boots stepping close.
To the trio's surprise, Kova wiped their face calmly with their hand and opened their eyes. No one expected the resounding smack across his face, the palm of their hand striking where they had punched him before, strong enough to send him sprawling across the floor.
He sat up, holding his cheek with a groan, and just as he opened his mouth to curse them out, Kova crudely stuck the stacked and tied tongue droppers between the right side of his teeth, forcing his jaw open. Murphy’s eyes widened in panic, and just as his hands scrambled to take the object out of his mouth, Kova grabbed both his wrists in one hand and held him down.
“Clarke.” The three sky people had never heard Kova’s voice so… frigid before. “Come here.”
Clarke glanced between the Blake siblings, unsure, before she approached slowly.
Kova took the flashlight and pointed it to various areas of Murphy’s mouth. “See here? The gums and uvula are always the first to swell, and so does the back of the throat. But since he already vomited, the swelling of the throat and uvula go down first. His gums might bleed, but otherwise, he’s well past the peak already. Not surprising, since he’s patient zero. You should find something similar with the others infected.”
They returned the flashlight and released Murphy’s hands. He tried pulling the tongue depressors out to no avail. He had the nerve to glare at Kova.
“I’m sure you wouldn’t want the scum of the Earth touching you, right?” The sneer they sent him was no less than pure vengeance.
Clarke passed them a bottle of alcohol and a rag. They thanked her and wiped down their hands and their face. “Is there a cure?” The sky leader asked.
A shake of Kova’s head brought all their shoulders down in distraught. “The only cure is natural selection. The virus can rapidly evolve if there were enough people, but since there’s less than a hundred people here, we don’t have to worry about its evolution. If Murphy is already getting better, than it'll take two to three days for the virus to fully pass the camp.”
“So we just wait it out?” Octavia asked.
“Essentially, yes. Until everyone clears up.”
”Bellamy, do you want to stop the spread or not?” Clarke referred to the conversation and him were having before. She rubbed a finger into the side of her temple, trying to sooth the headache forming. The idea of quarantine was difficult in such a small space, but they would have to manage.
His gaze fell over Octavia. “She’ll get sick just being here.”
“Look, I’ll keep her on the third level with the other people who aren’t symptomatic just yet. Think of it as a way to stop her from sneaking out again.”
“Screw you, Clarke.”
Kova snorted. Octavia sent them a weak hearted glare.
Bellamy pointed behind his shoulder with his thumb. “I have to get the others to work on the wall. There might be another retaliation soon. Stay safe.” He looked at Kova. “You… We’ll have a talk later.”
Oh. Oh no. Their eyes widened ever so slightly. A resigned sigh passed their lips. “Yeah, sure, whatever.” Kova tugged the bottom of their shirt to wipe their face again. “If this is settled, I’ll go clean up and bring separate water for you guys.”
It wasn't a complete lie. They were going to get them water, after they get their weapons from whichever tent the invaders hid them in.
The two left the dropship together.
Just as Octavia placed a hand on the ladder, ready to head up in isolation, a hand stopped her.
Clarke leaned against the ladder, all her energy disappearing. “Octavia, wait. I need you to sneak out again.”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
So Octavia snuck out on Clarke’s orders. She was a bit peeved that Clarke didn’t trust Kova—
(Although Clarke said “It’s not that I don’t trust them, but they can’t be our only source. Lincoln might know something they don’t.” But Octavia knew that was probably bullshit.)
—but at least this meant she could see Lincoln again. She just wished it was under better circumstances.
As soon as she arrived at the entrance of Lincoln’s home, she didn’t bother knocking and walked down the stairs and called out his name a few times. He had already been waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs. He hurriedly lifted the sides of her hair.
It took her a moment to realize what he was doing. Realization crossed over her face, and she couldn’t help but step away from him. “You knew.
It wasn’t a question.
His jaw clenched ever so slightly. “I tried to tell you, but you never came.“
“You were too late. I found the kid your people sent to infect us.” Octavia hissed out. “My people are dying, Lincoln. Clarke sent me here for a cure.”
“There is no cure.” His eyebrows creased. “Did Kova not tell you?”
Octavia’s shoulders slumped. “Yes, but Clarke wanted to know if you knew something they might not.” Anger bubbled inside her throat once more. “Wait, so you were just going to let my people die? You were going to let me die?”
“The sickness passes quickly.” Lincoln defended himself. “There are a few who are immune. We just use it to soften the battlefield. I’m not surprised you are one of the strong.” He placed a hand on her shoulder in pride, only for hurt to flash in his eyes when she pulled away from him.
“Battlefield? What are you talking about?”
“The warriors are attacking at first light.”
“You have to help me save them.”
“I can’t! I’ve tried already, and now my sibling is a fugitive and my people think we’re both traitors.”
“Why, because of the bridge? You were just trying to make peace!”
“It… It wasn’t just the bridge.”
Octavia looked down, recalling what Murphy had been rambling about before. “The boy — Murphy — he called Kova the Elephant of… cao-something. What was…” The question died on her lips at the look of horror across Lincoln’s face. “Lincoln?”
A shaky sigh passed his lips. “He what? How did he know?”
“He said a lieutenant and a general talked about them — that they were the scum of the Earth or something. Lincoln,” she placed a hand on his cheek, encouraging him to look at her. “What was that about?”
He leaned into her soft touch. “It doesn’t matter anymore.” He changed the subject abruptly. “I’m leaving, Octavia. Soon. I want you to come with me and Kova.”
She dropped her hand in shock. “To where?”
“There’s a clan - east to the sea, then across it. They’re allies of the woods but they’ll take us in, I personally know the leader. I’ve already sent a message to her asking for a safe passage.”
For her whole life she was stuck in the Ark underneath that cramped space and then stuck in a cell just for being born only until a few weeks ago. But now she had the opportunity to travel around the Earth freely? The idea was almost tempting. But thinking of her brother and her friends, she hesitated. “I… I can’t just let my brother get killed.”
“There’s nothing you can do about that now.”
“I can warn them.”
By the Gods, she was stubborn. It was one of the many traits he loved about her, but not at this moment. “Octavia, they will kill you. If you’re there at dawn—”
“I won’t.” She took a step back, heading towards the stairs. “Just wait for me here. I’m coming with you.”
“…wait.” Lincoln held her wrist with enough strength to make her pause, but gentle enough that she could break free if she wished. That was one of the many things she loved about him — he rarely grabbed her, nor did he try to manhandle her like others.
She leaned forward, placing a quick kiss on the side of his mouth, but then he turned his head, and the kiss deepened just for a moment until Octavia reluctantly broke it off first. “I’m coming back to you.”
“…I know.”
The Fierce And Broken
Pairings: Raven Reyes/reader
Chapter: 2.09
Warnings: mentions of blood
“Raven, please just listen to me!”
“No, no, I’m done listening. You can’t do this!”
You hadn’t expected Raven to like the idea of you going back into mount weather, but you hadn’t expected her to react so badly either. For the last ten minutes, she had been pacing back and forth, ranting and only stopping to cuss someone out.
You stepped forward and placed your hands on her shoulders, saying, “Raven... I need to do this. I’ve been inside mount weather, I need to help Bellamy get our people back.”
Raven held your gaze before shaking her head. “I’ve just lost Finn. I can’t lose you too.”
“You aren’t going to lose me, Reyes, I promise,” you sighed.
The brunette blinked away tears before turning to face the other way. “You can’t promise me that.”
“You're right... I can’t.” She turned back to face you with her eyes now bloodshot. “But I can promise you that I will do everything I can to get our people out and find my way back to you.”
—
“What do you think it was?”
“Probably a deer.” As you knelt down to examine the animal's remains more closely, Bellamy scrunched up his face. Whatever killed it tore it apart, allowing it to spread.
You moved back when Lincoln stepped beside you. He knelt down and began cutting away at the remaining parts. All three of you smeared the animals' blood over your faces and clothes to try and disguise yourselves as reapers. It reminded you of Anya making you and Clarke rub mud all over yourselves.
Once you were ready, Bellamy turned to face Lincoln. “Ok, so we make it to the intake door without any of the real reapers seeing us. What happens then?”
“I kill everyone and you slip inside.” Lincoln explained before rubbing limestone on his face. “Let's go, we've got a lot of ground to cover before dark.”
As Lincoln and Bellamy started to talk about Octavia, you hung back a little so you wouldn’t intrude on their conversation.
You wondered how Octavia felt knowing that both her brother and lover were putting themselves in danger. You can only imagine Murphy's reaction if he finds out you left with Bellamy and Lincoln. He would be pissed. And Raven, you hated leaving her, but you wouldn’t be able to live with yourself knowing you could have helped but didn't.
You just hoped this would be worth it in the end.
—
“Can I ask you something?”
Lincoln nodded.
“What does Heda gon bäsmhorachd, and Heda gon mathanas mean in trig?”
He raised his eyes, surprised by your question, while Bellamy looked at you puzzled.
You gulped down, “I know Heda means Commander, but I wasn’t sure what the other words meant.”
“Bäsmhorachd means mortality, and mathanas means forgiveness,” he explained. “Can I ask why?”
“Before Anya died, she told me I was two people. Heda gon bäsmhorachd, and Heda gonmathanas,” you shrugged. "I wanted to know what she was calling me.”
“Mortality and forgiveness aren’t words grounders use very often,” Lincoln explained. “Anya must have thought a lot about you.”
“I doubt that. She tried to kill me on several occasions and then tried to make me her prisoner.” You pointed out.
Lincoln chuckled, “That is the grounder way.”
—
As you approached the edge of the forest, you slowly came to a stop. Letting out a deep sigh, you turned to Raven, who had a scowl on her face. “None of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for you. You know that right?”
Raven shrugged, “yes.”
You chuckled at her comment. She was a genius and knew it. You share a kiss before hugging. You looked over Raven’s shoulder and frowned as your eyes landed on Clarke talking to the commander. “Be safe, okay.”
Raven pulled back, “Shouldn’t I be telling you that?" Sensing your unease, Raven placed her hand on yours with a concerned look on her face. “Alba?”
“I’m worried you won’t be safe,” you confessed.
She looked surprised by your statement. “Al, you are going into the belly of the beast. I’ll be back in camp with Clarke and the others.”
“That’s what’s worrying me.” You leaned in and spoke in a lower voice. “The Commander was going to slice you up yesterday, and now she’s living up her ass. I don’t buy it.”
“Now who’s the cynic?”
You knew by her tone that she wasn’t taking you seriously, but you feared she was in greater danger than you. Your camp was never going to be safe while the mountain men still had your people, regardless of the alliance with the grounders.
“I’m being serious, Reyes. I don’t trust either of them... just be safe.”
Raven nodded and squeezed your hand one more time before you went in opposite directions.
—
When you reached the inside of the mines, Lincoln suddenly stopped walking. He stared at the doors before Bellamy nudged him. “You ok?”
“As soon as they open the intake doors, we attack. Once they close, I'll make it look like you escaped.”
Something in the tone of Lincoln’s voice made you nervous. He seemed off. You tried to get Bellamy’s attention, but it didn’t work. “Then what?”
“The raiding party.”
“…Bellamy…” you whispered. Lincoln was shaking his head, before turning back to face the other way. “What are you doing?”
“We have to go back. It's the only way,” he mumbled.
“We can’t! Not when we are this close!”
Bellamy nodded in agreement. “We can’t leave.”
“This is our best chance of getting to our people,” you argued.
“I thought I could do this but I can't, ok, it's over,” Lincoln admitted before continuing to say that you needed to leave.
Bellamy stared at him, bewildered. “No, it's not! You can join them. Listen to me when they bring out the red you grab it and you run like hell. The reapers will go nuts, the grounders will run, and the Mountain Men will have to deal with it. No one is looking for a grounder running into the mountain.”
Bellamy’s words fell on deaf ears. Before you knew what was happening, Lincoln put the sack over Bellamy’s head.
You spun to run, but stopped when you heard footsteps approaching. Reapers. You had nowhere to run. You started to shake as everything went dark when a sack was placed over your head.
******************************************************************************************
"And soon I hope that this wont be a mistake too."
Callie hurried into med bay to help Abby with Raven. Murphy was sitting on the bed looking a little worse for wear and avoiding her eyes. The redhead walked passed him only to be stopped by Abby as she came over.
"Callie can you patch him up for me so I can look Raven over better?" The older woman asked. Callie nodded as she walked over to grab some bandages and water to clean him up. Cleaning all the blood off his face, Murphy was silent as pale hands worked quickly to heal him.
"Seems like you're always patching me up." He said quietly. Callie looked at him with her brow quirked. He was different than the last time she saw him, almost like there was remorse in his voice.
"Are you going to hang me as a thank you again too?" She said curtly. The girl knew it was a low blow, but the fact that she had almost died at his hands was something to make anyone mad. Murphy grabbed her hand forcing Callie to stop what she was doing and the look of shock that fell over her face was not hidden.
"Look. I'm sorry about what I did. I have no clue what I was thinking." Murphy said slowly. "I know that wont fix anything but I still feel like you need to hear it. I was wrong about you Callie, the fact that you haven't killed me shows that." Callie stood there silent as she took in what he was saying.
"You're right. I do appreciate your apology but I don't accept it." She said quietly. Callie could see the look on his face as his eyes fell and he released her hand. "Yet."
Murphy looked up at that last word with a confused look. "I don't forgive you, yet. But if you really do want to change then i'll let you. And when you do we can try this again." She said finishing with a smile. Murphy returned it as she finished patching him up.
When the guards took him away she headed over to Abby. Hearing gunshots their eyes met as they dropped everything and ran out. Callie's heart was beating when she got to the front gate with a small group formed. A woman was standing next to someone holding a gun and Callie's eyes instantly went to the wood line to see if she could see anything. Octavia was still out there with Lincoln and the girl had hoped that it was them that was shot at.
"Who was there!?" Her dad yelled coming up behind her. Marcus had a worried look on his face as Abby came up next to him looking around.
"I don't know." The man said with a shaky voice. "I know I saw something moving in the woods though."
Abby looked horrified when he said that. "You opened fire?! That could of been the kids." She yelled as she started sprinting forward. Marcus grabbed her arm and held her next to him as she struggled.
"Abby, no. We will sweep the woods." He said as they held a stare down. Callie studied the two as she wondered what had been happening while she was gone. It wouldn't surprise her if something had sparked since they had lived similar lives. Marcus let go of Abby and turned to the man.
"Who issued you that weapon?" He asked him. A blonde woman with a hard face stepped forward with a slightly raised hand.
"I did." She said looking between the men. Marcus nodded and took the gun away handing it to one of the guards.
"Major Bryne, from now on, only members of the guard get guns." He said facing the rest of the crowd. "Any unauthorized use of firearms will be punishable under the Exodus Chapter. Are we clear?" The murmurs of agreeing ran through the crowd as he turned back to Abby and the group.
"Search the damn grounds Marcus." She spit out before stomping off. Callie looked at her dad and shrugged as she followed after the woman.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"How are you feeling?" Callie asked looking at the girl on the table. Raven tried to give a smirk but all that happened was her forcing out a grimace.
"I'm doing awesome." She said through clenched teeth. Finn shook his head next to her while he held her hand. "She's lying."
Before anyone could reply, Abby came walking in wearing a worried look on her face. Raven sighed as she walked over. "I know that face. Just spit it out Abby." The young girl said with fear in her eyes. Abby sighed as she sat on the stool next to the girl.
"The bullet is still shifting. That's why you're in so much pain." The woman said quietly. "I was hoping it would stabilize by now."
"So how about taking it out?"
"Raven the bullet is pressing on your spine. If we leave it in you will never walk again." Abby said while Raven tried to sit up.
"So take it out." The girl repeated again with more force. Callie walked over and placed her hand on Ravens leg.
"Raven, the surgery could kill you. We have no equipment, no anesthesia." Callie said chewing on her lip. "You would be able to feel everything."
"Will I walk again."
"Maybe, but you'd be awake the entire time." Abby said slowly.
"Then let's do this." Raven said as she looked at both women with a determined look on her face. Finn shook his head and gripped her hand harder.
"Raven you could die." He said hoping to talk her out of it. Ravens face as she looked over was full of pain, but not from a bullet in her back.
"Look, in Zero G I don't need my legs. Down here I do.." She said slowly. Looking at the women she nodded. "Take it out."
It didn't take long for the women to get the room ready. Abby kept tutting about how dangerous this was and that she didn't like it but Callie knew Raven well enough to know that if she set her mind to something there was no changing it. Callie and Abby got things ready to go as Finn was whispering to Raven. Callie knew that he was worried about her and she didn't blame him.
Abby stood behind the girl as she lifted the scalpel. Callie was standing next to her ready to hand her anything and help. "Okay Raven. We are starting." Abby said quietly. As the blade touched the girls skin, she started to scream.
"Stop." Raven yelled. "I'm scared." Callie's heart broke as she heard the fear in her voice. Finn shook his head and gripped her hand tighter. "Just keep focusing on me." Looking up at the women he nodded. "She's ready."
Abby nodded as she continued. Callie tried to ignore the screaming as they tried to save Raven's life.
------------------------------------------------------------
Kane walked into the tent as Callie was cleaning up. Nodding at him, the redhead headed out of the door as Abby came up to him.
The woman watched how his eyes never left his daughter as she crossed her arms and leaned up against the table next to them. Raven was sleeping soundly and she was tired.
"How is she?" Marcus finally asked looking at Abby.
"Well, she survived surgery." Abby said. "Don't ask me how. She's a courageous girl that's for sure."
Marcus nodded rubbing his face. "They all are. Bellamy is ready to get back out there and do something."
"So is Callie. You and Amara raised a strong girl Marcus." Abby said quietly putting a hand on his arm. She knew that it had been tough between them even before the events of the past few months happened.
"Yeah, unfortunately it might get her killed."
"She just wants to help her friends." Abby said turning fully towards him. Marcus noted the look in her eyes and sighed. "We all want to find them. But not without knowing who and what we are up against."
"You didn't send out the search teams...did you" Abby left the sentence as more of a statement than a question. The look on the mans face was sad when he went to answer her.
"They were crucified. I'm sorry Abby but i've made my choice and until we know more no one is leaving the camp." He said walking away.
Callie had gone outside to get some air and see if she could find Bellamy. Sadly it looked like her dad still had him in lock up. Sighing the girl turned to go that way when she bumped into a solid form.
"Whoa there Kane, don't fall over." Jason said laughing as he steadied the girl. Callie returned the laugh and looked into those sky blue eyes that she had gotten so familiar with over the last year.
Jason had met Callie when he was working with her dad. From there they hung out and after everything with Bellamy, they had started seeing each other. Nothing too serious but Callie did care about him.
"Yeah, last thing I need to do is get hurt again." She said shaking her head as her hand went to her throat. Abby had looked at and cleared her when they got back to camp, but Callie knew that the bruises were still there.
Jason's eyes darkened as he looked at them. "Did he do this to you?" He asked touching her neck gently. Callie's face went from confused to shocked in a matter of seconds as his questioned registered in her head.
"What?! No, god no." She said, shaking her head. "This wasn't Bellamy. He wouldn't do that to me." Jason scoffed and Callie knew what he was thinking. "He really isn't all that bad. If you guys could get over your dick swinging competition then I think you might actually get along."
Jason was in the guard, he trained with Bellamy so he knew the details of what had happened. He also knew that Callie hung out with him all the time and the guy would be lying if he said that he wasn't jealous.
"There's no competition Cal. The guy is a loose canon most of the time and I just don't trust him." He said shrugging. "Besides, I'm not really here to talk about him."
Callie sighed as she saw Abby walking up to her behind Jason. "Calliope can you come with me? I just need your help with some things." The woman said. Callie shot her a confused look but nodded and said goodbye to the other man.
Once they were safely out of earshot, Abby turned towards Callie. "You're meeting up with Finn. He's going to get Bellamy and you guys are going to get the kids." The woman said grabbing Callie's shoulders. "That boy, Jason. Can you trust him?" Abby asked. Callie was still getting over the shock that the woman was directly disobeying her father and only nodded.
"Good. Go, Finn is going to meet you by where they are keeping the boys." Abby said before she walked off. Callie spun on her heel and went to meet Finn, finally seeing the boy standing against the wall in the hallway.
"There you are." He said pushing himself off of it. "We only have a small window to grab Bellamy and get the hell out of here." Finn looked around before motioning for Callie to follow him. The next guard shift hadn't come yet and he had pulled out the key card he swiped and unlocked the door. Monroe and Stirling were located a few feet apart from each other down the hall looking out.
Bellamy's head rose when he heard the door open and was surprised to see Callie walk in with Finn. "Red, what's going on?" He asked as she came over and took the cuffs off him. Pulling him up she shot him that famous smile and squeezed his hand.
"It's a jailbreak. We are going after the others." Callie fixed her jacket as Bellamy walked over to Murphy and picked him up too. "What are you doing?" Finn asked him as he started leading Murphy towards the door.
"He's been to the grounder camps. He comes with us." Bellamy said as Finn tried to stand in front of him. The boys had a stare down as Callie rolled her eyes and looked over at Murphy and shrugged. Monroe popped her head back in and broke whatever was going on.
"Hey guys, Sterling signaled. Someones coming." She said quietly as the five of them hurried and got out of the room. Going the opposite way from the guard, they slipped out a back door and towards the break in the fence that led into the woods.
Callie's hand squeezed Bellamy's as they made their way into the dark trees. A noise behind them made the group jump as Abby appeared from the bushes. "You're late." She said tutting as another figure made his way out from behind her.
"Yeah well Bellamy decided to bring company." Finn said looking at Murphy.
Jason looked at Callie and her hand intertwined with Bellamy's and his jaw clenched. "I figured you guys could use a little more help." Abby said motioning to the other man. Callie took a deep breath and nodded knowing more hands the better.
Abby handed off a few weapons to the group and sighed. "Bring them home you guys." She said as they all nodded. Callie stepped forward and gave the woman a hug. Pulling back, Abby cupped Callie's cheek and smiled. "Stay safe." She said before leaving them all with one last look and turning around.
"Lets go. We need to be as far away from here as possible when they realize you guys are missing." Callie said as everyone picked up a bag that was waiting for them full of supplies. Heading into the darkness Callie hoped that this wasn't a bad idea.
Previous chapter
The forest was eerily quiet. The group of four had hardly spoken a word to each other as they searched for potential food sources.
Myles was walking slightly ahead of them as Jill trailed behind. She couldn’t get the secrets she was hiding out of her mind. Murphy had killed someone. Her Murphy, done that. Even the thought of it made her physically feel sick. Jill chose not tell anyone what she knew in case he was banished again, or worse. She was sure Bellamy would kill him if he found out.
Finn stepped back from Clarke and waited until Jill was next to him before walking again. “Hey, you seemed rather distant before. Is everything okay?”
“Yeah,” She gulped down. “I-I just need to pee really bad. I’ll catch up with you guys in a moment.”
Finn shrugged and caught up with Clarke, while Jill stepped behind a large tree. She just needed a moment to herself. Focus, she just needed to focus. Taking a deep breath she readied herself to join the others when she heard somebody yelling in pain. Slowly she creeped her head around the tree to see Myles laying on the ground with an arrow sticking out of his leg, just as Jill was about to help him grounders appeared behind Clarke and Finn.
Anya? Shit. Jill froze on the stop as she tried to figure out what to do. What could she do? She wasn’t a fighter and the grounders would easily kill her if she tried to attack, the best thing she could do was get more people. She blinked away tears while watching Finn and Clarke being dragged away.
A rustling sound coming from behind alerted her to someone’s presence. Without thinking she pulled her knife out, and spun and spun around. A grounder swung his sword at her, cutting Jill on the wrist. She let out a scream of pain as he kicked her to the ground, not knowing what else to do Jill stabbed him in the leg with her knife. When the grounder stumbled forward she removed the knife from his leg and stabbed him in the neck.
Jill watched in horror as the grounder fell forward, with blood pouring from his neck. He was dead. She had killed him.
She quickly started running back towards camp, praying she didn’t run into another grounder.
______
Soon as Jill got back to camp she ran toward Bellamy’s tent, and barged in unannounced. “Bellamy!”
The sight of a topless Bellamy and Raven redressing took her by surprise. Granted, she should have called out before entering, but Jill never would have imagined walking in on them post sex.
Bellamy stood with his mouth agape while Raven took on her friend’s appearance. She was covered in blood. “What happened?”
Jill took a step back as Raven tried to reach out to her, she shot the brunette a glare before turning to face Bellamy. “Me and Myles got attacked by grounders, while Clarke and Finn got kidnapped.”
“What?” Bellamy stepped forward. “Do you know where they took them?”
“No.”
“How can you not know?” Raven added. “You must have seen what direction they went off in.”
Jill clenched her jaw. “Unlike you, I was a little busy trying not to die.”
Bellamy sighed, “Jill we-”
“Don’t just don’t.” She spat, “once you're done screwing other people’s girlfriends you need to help me find them.”
Jill stormed out of the tent, not giving either of them a chance to reply. She took a few deep breaths before looking down at her cut wrist, she had ripped her jacket and used the fabric to try and stop the bleeding, unfortunately it hadn’t worked. The realisation of what happened suddenly stuck her like a ton of bricks.
She glanced around the camp while looking for Murphy. Regardless of everything that had happened she needed him. Not being able to see his face she started to panic.
“John!” She called out. “John!”
When Murphy didn’t appear she started to check the different areas. She was worried that he’d left after her to hunt for food. The type of panic she was feeling was nothing she’d ever experienced before. Tears stung her eyes while she began to feel dizzy, as her breathing became hitched. Stepping out of the water tent she saw Raven and Bellamy both giving her a worried look, she ignored them.
She scratched at her hat frantically feeling how itchy her head had become underneath with sweat, then the thought occurred to her. She hadn’t checked her own tent.
She sprinted towards it and swung the flaps open to see Murphy sleeping.
“John,” she said weakly before kneeling onto the ground.
______
Murphy stirred hearing a sobbing noise, opening his eyes he was surprised to Jill on her knees staring at the ground. She looked almost possessed.
“Jill what are you doing?” He asked, confused.
Rubbing the sleep from his eye he sat up fully and looked her up and down. He noticed the bloodied knife clenched tightly in her hand, and her bleeding wrist. He jumped up and kneeled next to her. “What have you done? Did you do this to yourself?”
Jill shook her head, Murphy placed his hands on her cheeks so she would look at him. Her eyes were swollen and puffy from crying. Jill mumbled something he wasn’t quite able to make out.
“What?”
Murphy’s surprisingly soft voice made her feel more guilty, “I killed someone.”
Not expecting that answer Murphy stared at her for a moment before taking the knife from her hand. He dropped it down next to him before pulling Jill into his chest. He waited a few moments before asking what happened, “how did it happen?”
Jill leaned back from him and cliched at her chest. “A grounder attacked me, he was trying to kill me...I...I didn’t want to hurt him but he was going to kill me.”
Hearing Jill's voice break as she spoke made Murphy’s eyes fill with tears. He hated seeing her in so much pain. Glancing down he saw the drops of blood landing on the ground. “Do you want me to get Clarke or Octavia to look at your wrist?”
Jill shook her head, while wiping away tears. “No, she’s gone. They both are, and it’s all my fault. It’s all my fault John.”
Murphy frowned at the comment, he had no idea what happened but knew none of it wouldn’t have been her fault. “Jill, tell me exactly what happened.”
“I ended up leaving with Clarke, Finn, and Myles.”
Murphy gritted his teeth at the thought of Myles being anywhere near Jill.
“I-I was fixing myself behind a tree when I heard a yelling, I looked over and saw Myles had been shot with an arrow, and the grounder taking Clarke and Finn. I panicked and did nothing, I should have done something.” She sobbed feeling terrible for not doing anything.
Murphy squeezed her good hand lightly, “you did the right thing.”
“A grounder attacked me and I ended up stabbing him in the neck.”
“Jillian look at me.” Jill finally looked up from the ground and into Murphy’s dark blue eyes. “It wasn’t your fault, you did what you had to. Did you tell Bellamy?” She nodded. “Good, now they have a chance.”
He leaned forward and kissed her forehead. “Now, can I look at your arm?”
______
Murphy was relieved that Jill had finally fallen asleep, he had spent over an hour trying to convince her what happened wasn’t her fault before she passed out from crying. Murphy had cleaned her wrist up with a first aid kit that he stole out of someone else’s tent. The best he could tell the cut wasn’t too deep, but he’d rather someone else looked at it in the morning. Murphy was afraid he’d done it wrong.
Bellamy had got a rescue party together a few hours earlier. Murphy argued with Bellamy and Raven that he wasn’t waking up Jill to show them where the grounders took Finn and Clarke. She was too weak and probably wouldn’t be any help.
As he watched her sleep he couldn’t get the one thought out of his mind. Why did Myles go with them? Did he randomly pick them, or did he want to hurt Jill? It was no secret they hated each other.
He had been paranoid since he arrived back that he would be floated again. If it wasn’t for Jill he would have ditched the camp and took his chances on the outside. He would suggest leaving together, but Murphy knew she would say no. If they were going to stay in camp he would need to find a way to make it safer for them. Murphy groaned into his hands. Not only did he need to worry about the threats outside the camp, he had to worry about the ones inside it as well.
Out of all his problems he knew how to fix one. Myles had to go.
Desperate Measures 15/?
MASTERLIST: (don’t ask about part ten)
Summary: Raven undergoes a terrible operation to save herself, and Finn recruits delinquents for a mission. Y/N is one of them.
warnings: surgical procedures, swearing, canon-typical stuff
notes: I’m finally back with a chapter and hopefully I’ll be able to update regularly again. Tbh, I feel like no one cares about this story anymore, so seeing it receive some new love has made my heart very very happy. Based on 2x02 “inclement weather”
***
Bellamy paced his cell, the wire digging into his wrists as he waited for another interrogation. Byrne, Sgt. Miller. It was only a matter of time before Kane decided to show up. It was only a matter of time before he had to face the man who had helped float his mother.
Today was that day apparently.
The door slid open. He had seemed taller on the Ark, more intimidating.
Down here he was just another adult who was playing with things they didn’t understand. Another adult who refused to believe them.
“How long are you gonna keep me locked up in here?” Bellamy sighed, his shoulders slumping.
Kane crossed his arms, “As long as it takes until I’m sure you’re not a threat to others.”
He resisted the urge to scoff. The only threat they faced was the grounders.
“Those are my people out there” Bellamy growled, his irritation starting to get the better of him, “I should be out there looking for them, not--”
“You shouldn’t be doing anything” Kane cut him off, tone stern, “Your time of being a leader is over.”
Bellamy clenched his jaw. His time of being a leader will never be over. As long as his people survived, he would do whatever it took to keep them that way.
The sound of metal dragging on metal caught him off guard, Kane sitting down on a lone crate, gesturing to another one he had brought over. Bellamy knew the drill.
Here came the interrogation.
“I need you to tell me everything you know about the grounders” Kane paused, inhaling, “and my daughter.”
“Your daughter?” Bellamy asked, arching an eyebrow.
Kane creased his, “You know exactly who I’m talking about.”
Bellamy decided to play his game. “I know Y/N Franco survived a bullet wound to the leg and was one of the hundred who managed to make it back home. The rest of my friends are out there, probably dying and you’re sitting here acting like the real threat isn’t out there torturing our people!”
“That’s enough!” Kane barked, teeth grit in brewing anger, “If you aren’t going to help me, then I’m afraid I can’t let you go.”
As the new Chancellor stood up to walk away, Bellamy chuckled mirthlessly, remembering what Maria had said so many times before.
“She was right” Bellamy called out, “You’re not her father.”
He watched as the Chancellor buried his emotions in a fist, slowly turning around with an ease he had only seen Y/N wear before.
The two men eyed each other, never losing eye contact as Kane sat back down, hunching over to lean in closer to Bellamy. The interrogation continued.
***
Her leg throbbed, but she could walk. The bullet had been safely removed, and she was thankful Murphy was a lousy shot.
She was thankful Murphy had only hit the muscle.
Raven wasn’t as lucky.
Y/N stood beside Finn, watching anxiously as Abby discussed what needed to be done to save Raven.
“The bullet is still shifting” The doctor informed the mechanic, “I was hoping it would stabilize by now.”
“So take it out” She and Raven spoke at the same time.
Abby and Jackson shared a nervous look, unable to hide anything from anyone down here. No one was.
“Raven” Abby’s tone turned gentle. “The bullet is pressing against your spine, if we leave it in you’ll live but...you’ll never walk again.”
Y/N swallowed at the news. On the ark, this wouldn’t have been a problem. Zero G solved that. Down here? With grounders abundant and new threats popping up everywhere? Where they needed their legs to run? Raven needed to walk. Raven needed that surgery.
“Take it out” Raven pleaded, showing no sign of backing down from her decision. “In zero g I didn’t need my legs. Down here I do.”
Abby sighed before nodding slightly to Jackson. She felt Raven’s calloused hand snake itself into her own, eyes pleading with her.
“Will you stay?” The weakened girl asked, “please?” Y/N nodded, leaning down, her leg still hurting but she ignored it. Raven was going through much worse. She could deal with a little leg pain if it helped Raven.
“I’m not going anywhere.” She replied, brushing a hand over her friend’s hair. A weight knelt down beside her and she caught Finn staring intently at his ex, grasping her and Y/N’s hand in his own. “Neither am I” He spoke softly, his gaze never leaving Raven’s.
“We’re almost ready” Abby called, turning Raven on her stomach before lifting up the mechanic’s grey tank top, marking the infected area with a black marker. Y/N felt her breathing shift. Raven’s grip grew tighter around her and Finn’s hands, a silent plea.
The scalpel made its way to the marked area, ready to cut into her--
“Stop!” Raven cried, a tear streaking down her ashen face, fear flickering through her eyes. “I’m so scared” Her voice broke and Y/N broke along with it.
This was her best friend.
More than that. They were sisters. They grew up together. They were meant to change the world together. And now the strongest person she knew was breaking down before her eyes.
“Hey” Y/N whispered, drawing Raven’s attention away from the surgery, “Look at me and Finn.”
Understanding swirled in her dark brown eyes.
She squeezed their hands together.
She was ready.
Finn switched his gaze to Abby.
Y/N’s never left Raven’s.
“She’s ready” Finn announced.
The screams were deafening.
*** Bellamy’s blood became ice as screams rang through the small compound. What if it was Y/N? She had been scheduled for surgery. What if the screams were hers? What if she was suffering and there was nothing he could do about it?
“It’s not Sparky, if that’s what you’re worried about” Murphy deadpanned from across the room. Irritation flashed hotly through Bellamy’s body, the traitor’s voice not helping his anxious state. “She wouldn’t give them the satisfaction.”
He clenched his jaw at the statement, because against his better judgement, Bellamy knew Murphy was right. Y/N would refuse to scream during surgery, especially if it was just a bullet to the leg.
Before Bellamy could respond to the true statement, the doors slid open once again, revealing Kane and Byrne ready for another interrogation. Except this time the subject matter was one person.
The same person he had been thinking about minutes before.
“What the hell happened to my daughter?” Kane’s eyes were ablaze, searching back and forth between the two men, desperate for answers. Kane turned toward Bellamy, stalking forward, “You told me grounders don’t have guns.”
“They don’t” Bellamy spoke calmly, slightly unnerved with how desperate the Chancellor seemed. No one had ever seen him this vulnerable. Or this angry. “You wanna know what happened to your daughter?”
Kane clenched his jaw, the slightest nod answering the question.
“Ask him.” Bellamy gestured toward the opposite wall.
Toward John Murphy.
***
Y/N exhaled, wanting to cry tears of relief.
She had made it. Against all odds, Raven Reyes had survived.
“She’s a fighter” Abby pointed out later, wiping the scalpel and tweezers clean of the crimson liquid. “You all are.”
Y/N smiled shyly at the compliment, her thoughts drifting toward Bellamy. “Some of us more than others.” She murmured.
Abby froze, turning around to face the engineer. “You want to go see him.”
It wasn’t a question.
Y/N nodded.
“Please Abby” She pleaded, “If you knew what Murphy’s done, what he did to me, Raven and Bellamy, you wouldn’t have him locked up.”
The doctor sent a puzzled look before glancing between the two girls. Her mind began to weave the pieces together, an incredulous look on her face as Abby threw another glance at Y/N’s freshly stitched up leg.
“This way,” was all Abby said, pulling the engineer forward through the curtains of the med tent until she landed in front of a panel that looked out of place. “You can exit through there, your dad’s waiting out front, but this should be able to get you past him and Byrne.”
She threw her arms around the woman who had saved her and Raven’s life, grateful that she had someone in this camp on her side.
Her feet stepped out onto the grassy fields, sunlight streaming across her face, blinding her vision and heating up her face as she soaked up the yellow rays. Her boots crunched against the patches of dry grass underneath her as she managed to find the entrance to the newly dubbed Camp Jaha.
She avoided the awestruck gazes of her fellow Ark citizens, every one of them knowing exactly who she was. The poor orphan from Mecha station taken in by Marcus Kane. Before she was thrown in solitary with the rest of the delinquents to be sacrificed for their sick experiment.
Before she was sent down to die.
Alpha station was exactly the way she remembered it. Down to the last piece of scrap metal that had fallen from the sky. The metal walls confined her. Everything was too small.
She couldn’t believe she ever thought this was the biggest thing in the world.
The earth was a never ending maze, the same way she had viewed Alpha at one point, and now Alpha was nothing to her. A confining box meant to keep everyone in line.
She peeked down the corridor leading to the stockade, watching the guards, wondering if there was some way to cut the power so she could sneak in unseen.
An arm on her shoulder caused her to flinch.
She whipped around, senses on fire as she drew her fists, stopping when she met the shocked face of David Miller.
“Sgt. Miller?” She asked, disbelief crossing her features. The Chief of the guard relaxed, all the tension gone from his shoulders as he recognized the face in front of him.
“Y/N,” The chief breathed, “I’m so glad I found you. Did Nate follow you back at all?”
She froze at the question.
For the first time since being discovered at the dropship, she allowed her thoughts to turn toward those she failed. Miller, Monty, Jasper, Clarke.
All gone.
Taken.
By grounders or something else. But it didn’t change the fact. She hadn’t saved them. She had failed them all.
“I’m sorry” She swallowed, ignoring the guilt pressing against her chest, “I don’t know where he is.”
David’s face fell.
“I broke my promise” Y/N admitted, voice thick with emotion, “I promised you I’d take care of him, and I--I failed. I’m so sorry.”
He left with a broken smile and a pat on the back. His words ringing in her head long after he was gone.
“You did what you could.”
No she didn’t. She should’ve gone after them. She should’ve stopped hiding. She should’ve tried to fight off those who would try and harm her friends. And now she was paying the price. A hand grasped her bicep and pulled her backward, pressing her against the wall, a hand covering her mouth.
Her eyes narrowed when she saw who it was.
“Finn?” She spoke through his hand, the muffled sound muted by the flesh against her lips. The long haired delinquent shot several paranoid looks behind his shoulder before whispering his plan to Y/N.
“Your dad lied about the search team. Finding our people, going after the grounders, all of it. They’re not going after our people Y/N,” Finn informed her, his eyes bugging out of his head, “So we’re taking matters into our own hands. Monroe and Sterling are on watch, you and I are going to sneak in and free Bellamy. What do you say?”
He gently lifted his hand free from her mouth to let her give her answer.
It was a reckless plan. And there’s no telling whether the grounders even had their friends in the first place unless they managed to build smoke bombs. But it was better than anything she had come up with.
It was better than staying here and failing again.
“I’m in.”
Sneaking in was marginally easier than she expected. Especially with Marcus putting several guards in front of the door because he didn’t like how close Bellamy had gotten with her. Thank whatever higher power above for secret passages.
They had kept her safe from Marcus’ disappointment on the Ark and now they’re going to help her save her friends.
“Get up” Finn instructed, Y/N using the pliers to cut the zip ties around Bellamy’s wrists, “We’re going to save our friends.”
Bellamy’s skeptical look disappeared as he rubbed his raw wrists. Anger stirred in her chest at the sight of the red lines, but she shoved it aside. She would deal with her father later. Right now her friends were in trouble.
“About time,” Bellamy smirked, turning toward Y/N, “Your idea?” She shook her head, “Finn’s, and we gotta hurry. Now.”
Bellamy grasped the pliers from her hands and moved toward the opposite wall, her anger spilling out of her as Finn finished her thoughts for her, “What the hell are you doing?”
He had cut Murphy free.
“He’s the only one who’s been to their camp.” Bellamy explained as if Murphy’s presence being needed was the most obvious solution in the world.
Y/N rolled her eyes, moving forward to meet Murphy, “You shoot me again, and I promise I will kill you.”
His response was cut off by the appearance of Monroe, “Hey, Sterling just signalled, someone’s coming.”
The four of them ducked out, closing the panel behind them as Alpha station dropped them back by the medical tent.
“You’re late” Abby scolded, David by her side as their flashlights lit up the area surrounding the gate.
“Bellamy decided to bring company” Finn retorted.
Bellamy sighed, pulling Murphy’s bonds tighter, “He’s the only one that’s been to their camp.”
The two adults nodded before handing off the firearms to the delinquents, David entrusting his own pistol to Y/N, his gaze never leaving hers.
“Find my son, his name is Nathan Miller.”
She didn’t need to know that.
She knew exactly who to look for.
She knew exactly who she had failed.
I love you // clarke griffin
summary: after Murphy brings the sickness to camp, you have to try and contain it with the help of Clarke, however, that gets a little tough when Clarke gets sick, leaving you to wonder whether she'll make it or not.
warning/s: mentions of death.
"Quarantine, now," Clarke demanded, sending everyone out of the drop ship.
"Clarke, you don't even know if this thing is contagious–" I began to intervene, however, she shot me a glare, making me back down. Despite knowing her practically all my life, she still managed to intimidate me with those piercing blue eyes of hers.
"Y/N, Clarke, we need to go check on the others," Bellamy called from the entrance of the drop ship, causing me to look away from the blonde and to him. "Let's go!"
"I can't leave them all alone," Clarke argued, motioning to the sick around us. "They need assistance."
Bellamy marched over to us and looked Clarke in the eye. "And you won't be of much assistance to anyone if you die, now come on."
Clarke hesitated, glancing around at everyone. She looked at me, and I nodded in agreement to Bellamy's statement; as much as I hated to admit it, he was right, and we needed to start doing more work.
"Fine," Clarke gave in reluctantly.
We followed him out, leaving Murphy and the others to themselves. Whatever this disease was that the grounders had plagued us with, it was spreading fast. At least we assumed it was contagious like that. It was all we had to go off for now.
"Make sure everybody is doing work," Bellamy ordered once we had stepped outside the drop ship doors. "We're losing men by the minute and we can't afford to lag, especially with the grounders still out there."
I nodded and watched him jog away, probably to tend to some others. I was about to do the same, but Clarke held me back by the arm, sending tingles on my skin from the contact. I looked to her and raised an eyebrow.
"What is it?" I asked, sensing the unsure look on her face. She was thinking about something, and whatever it was, it wasn't good.
"Find Octavia," she said, lowering her voice and moving closer so I could hear her. "Tell her to find Lincoln and get a cure."
"But you heard Bellamy–"
"Now!" she ordered authoritatively, subconsciously tightening her grip on my arm. I could tell that this was too much for her, being unable to control everything and all. Even though she hated to admit it, she was a natural born leader, and when she couldn't understand something, it would bother her.
I sighed, then nodded her way. "Okay, just– stay safe."
I raced off and searched around for Octavia, only to find her helping some others mend a small defect that the wall was having.
"Octavia!" I called, catching her attention as she turned around at the sound of my voice. "Come here, please."
She jogged over to me and asked, "What's up?"
I looked around nervously, not wanting to be caught by Bellamy. If he knew what Clarke and I were asking from Octavia, he would be extremely angry.
"Y/N, what is it?" the brunette pressed, peering up at me with her strong gaze.
I licked my lips and spoke. "Clarke wants you to go find Lincoln. See if there's a cure to this thing. You think you can do that?"
A small smile appeared on her lips and she winked at me. "Already on it, chief." And with that, she ran away, sneaking out of the entrance and to find Lincoln.
I took another glance around to make sure no one had seen, and released a deep breath. All I had to do now was find Clarke and tell her it was done, then I could start helping around.
I spent the next five minutes searching the camp for Clarke, but her familiar blonde head of hair was nowhere to be seen. And when I finally decided to use my brain and ask someone, they told me that she was last seen running back inside the drop ship.
"Oh, Clarke...," I mumbled to myself before heading back to the drop ship.
Once I entered, I saw that the people inside looked even worse than they did before. Some were sprawled about in make-do hammocks, and others were covering the floor, laying down, appearing weak and tired. Everyone had different side effects, but they all looked sick. Their sweaty bodies and drooping eyes showing that evidently.
"It's okay, just drink this," I heard the familiar voice that belonged to Clarke say, and when I looked up, I saw that she was helping someone to drink some water.
I walked to her side, stopping behind her. "You really love to help, don't you?"
She jumped at the sound of my voice, and eventually turned around, noticing it was me. Her face was not amused, and instead, she looked very very annoyed.
"If you're just going to stand there, at least help," she said, pushing past me to assist someone else. She kneeled down beside a girl and began to dab at her face with a damp cloth.
"I told Octavia," I informed her. "She's going to Lincoln as we speak."
Hearing that made Clarke momentarily relax for the first time since we had been struck with this illness. "That's good."
She stood up and went to the bowl that contained the water. She cleaned her cloth and I noticed that she was clenching her jaw as she did so, obviously angry that we were unable to do anything to help.
I walked towards her and placed my hand on her shoulder, saying, "Clarke, she's gone to get the cure. We're going to be fine."
She shoved me off harshly and turned around, glaring at me as her eyes pooled with tears. "No we're not. People are dying, people have died, and people will die. There's no chance anymore. They've practically won."
I frowned as I saw her like this. It hurt to know that she was giving up, because she was the strongest one of us all, and if she felt like giving up, then maybe it was time that we all did.
Tears began to drip down her cheeks, and my eyes widened when I saw that they weren't normal... it was blood coming from her eyes.
"Clarke, your eyes!" I exclaimed, rushing forward and wiping away a tear, only for my thumb to have her blood on it.
When she saw, her eyes widened and she wiped away her tears frantically. Before either of us could do anything though, we heard a commotion coming from outside, and ran to the drop ship exit, only to see that Octavia had returned and was having an argument with Bellamy. From what I could tell, it was about her leaving camp. When he noticed Clarke and I, he stormed over to us angrily, and I braced myself for what was coming.
"You told her to leave?!" he spat with anger, glaring at us both.
I glanced at Clarke and saw that she wasn't fully with it, so I stepped forward and stared Bellamy down. "It had to be done, Bell. But she's okay now, so let's just hear what she has to say."
Despite his fuming behaviour, he seemed to understand the severity of our situation as he stepped back and looked to Octavia, waiting for an answer.
"There's no cure..." she began sadly, causing everyone to gasp. "This was sent to us to weaken our army. The grounders are planning to attack at dawn. It's not supposed to kill, but by the time they are here, it won't matter."
Nobody spoke as we all digested this new information. The good news was that this thing could go away over time. The bad news was that the grounders were coming, and we had no defence.
"Clarke, get away from us!" someone yelled, only to cause everyone to start shouting things.
"You're going to get us all sick!"
"You're spreading it!"
"It's contagious!"
I clenched my jaw at how uncivil everyone was being, and looked over my shoulder to see if Clarke was okay, but as soon as I turned around, she was beginning to collapse.
"Clarke!" I shouted, catching her in my arms before she could hit the ground and do any serious damage. "Clarke, are you okay? Can you hear me?"
She looked up at me, but her eyes were drifting off every few seconds. "Y/N..." she groaned, half-awake.
"We need to get her in the drop ship," I announced urgently, waiting for someone to help.
"Come on," Finn said, running forward to my side and lifting her up. "Let's get her inside."
Bellamy, Octavia and I all followed Finn into the drop ship, and that's when we realised that there was no more room. It was practically full with sick people already.
"She can have my spot," Murpby offered, already getting off his hammock. "I was feeling better anyway."
We rushed to his hammock and Finn laid Clarke down on there, before going to get some water for her. I looked down at her and saw that she was already catching a fever, as her skin was clammy and when I put my hand on her forehead, she was burning up.
"Give her this," Finn said, handing me a cup of water.
I nodded as a thanks his way, then helped to lift Clarke's head so that she could swallow the water. Once she had finished the cup, she rested her head back on the hammock and took a deep breath.
"You're going to be okay," I told her, grabbing her hand and giving it a reassuring squeeze. "I promise."
She nodded and tried to sit up, but I pushed her back down gently, saying, "You need rest, Clarke."
She shook her head tiredly. "I need to help the others. They need water or they'll get dehydrated."
"I'm already on it," Murphy called from the other side of the drop ship. "Finn, come help me."
Finn joined him and I looked up to see them both helping others to drink water, and to cool them down with a wet cloth.
"Octavia, you need to leave with Bellamy before you get sick," Clarke coughed out. "Take everyone who is well and leave camp. Your best bet is to leave whilst you can."
"We're not leaving you, Clarke," Bellamy said sternly. "And we aren't leaving this camp. The sickness will pass by dawn and we'll be ready. Raven is working on the bomb and that should buy us some time."
"Bell–"
"Clarke, he's right," I spoke, interrupting her. "We're staying here to defend what's ours."
She sighed, but didn't respond, and I took this as my chance to give some orders of my own.
"Bellamy, go round up everyone else and get them ready for tomorrow. Anyone who is sick, send them in here." He nodded and I looked to Octavia. "Octavia, you go and check on Raven and see how the bomb's coming along. If she needs help, help her. The sooner that is done, the quicker we can set it."
Octavia nodded and both of the Blake siblings glanced at Clarke with concern before running out of the drop ship to do their job. I looked back to Clarke and saw that she was staring at me the whole time. Her blue eyes were dulling as each second passed, and her skin was going paler and paler, yet she still managed to look beautiful in this state.
"You should go and help them," she spoke, her voice harsh and raspy. "I don't want you to get sick."
I cracked a smile and squeezed her hand again. "If you think I'm leaving you by yourself, you've got another thing coming."
"Y/N–"
"Don't even think about it," I stopped her. "Just please get some rest. I'll be here when you wake up. I promise."
She seemed reluctant to agree, but when I leaned down and gave her a soft, gentle kiss on the forehead and whispered, "Please," she nodded slowly and closed her eyes, trying to sleep.
Throughout her slumber, I never once let go of her hand, or left her side. I was afraid that if I did, I wouldn't see her waking up again. People had died from this, no matter how strong they were. I didn't want Clarke to have to suffer the same fate.
Yeah, as you've probably guessed by now, I liked her. As in more than a friend. In fact, I loved her. I always had, ever since I had seen her in my class when we were kids. It was just my luck that she was my cell partner on the Ark prison, right?
"...here, come on, Bell."
At the sound of Octavia's voice, I tore my gaze away from Clarke's resting form, and saw the Blake siblings stumbling through the dropship curtain. Bellamy looked terrible, presumably having been affected by the illness, and Octavia was expectedly concerned for his wellbeing. I kissed the top of Clarke's hand and reluctantly left her side to check on the siblings.
"Bell, how're you– oh god." I leaned down by his side and helped Octavia in turning him over so he could vomit out the blood. Of course, being Bellamy Blake, he thought he didn't need our help and was miserably failing to fight us off.
"Bell, let us help you!" Octavia shouted, using her strength to turn him over.
Letting out the bloody contents of his insides, Bellamy coughed and coughed until his body could finally relax against the blanket-covered floor.
"I've got it from here, Y/N, thanks," Octavia said, glancing at me before beginning to wipe away the blood from her brother's face.
As I stood up, I looked over the two of them with concern. "You sure?"
She nodded, her eyes glued to her brother's face as she pushed his hair from his eyes. "Yeah. You should stay with Clarke."
I bit my lower lip, making sure they looked alright before heading back to Clarke quickly. She was just how I left her, and I found myself taking her hand in mine again, subconsciously tracing little patterns on it with my thumb.
Despite the probable amount of pain she would have been in before she was asleep, she looked very relaxed right now. Almost as if the weight of the world wasn't on her shoulders for the time being. God, this girl was too good for everyone. She would do anything to make sure we were all safe, and she would always put us first. She deserved so much better than this.
The very thought that she may not even wake up from this nightmare made me tear up. It couldn't end like this for. It wasn't fair!
Suddenly, her fingers began to twitch gently, and I straightened up when I saw her eyes flickering open swiftly. Her sapphire-coloured eyes darted around with confusion before she settled them on me. She tried to sit up almost immediately, but I pushed her back down gently, shaking my head.
I couldn't help but chuckle. Sucking up a breath and wiping at my glossy eyes, I said, "God, I'm so happy to see you right now."
She seemed like she was about to argue, but when she looked closely at me, she sat up slowly and pulled me in for a hug. Gladly accepting it, I wrapped my arms around her torso and pulled her close, revelling in her warmth.
"Thank you for staying with me," I heard her say, her voice hoarse, making me realise that she was probably dehydrated.
I pulled away and grabbed a cup of water before handing it to her. Taking a few sips and coughing a little, she handed the cup back to me and I put it back to the side before taking her hand again, making her look up.
"I thought you were–"
"Don't," she stopped me, shaking her head. "I'm fine."
"But–"
"I'm fine," she repeated, but even she seemed unsure. Looking down at our intertwined hands, she said, "I think I'm–"
I waited for her to continue, and noticed the serious expression she wore. I was surprised she wasn't worrying about all the sick people around her like expected. Instead, she seemed really confused, nervous.
"Clarke, what is it?" I asked with concern.
She shook her head, "Never mind," then tried to stand up, only to stumble over herself because of her dizziness.
I held her up carefully, widening my eyes at her speed. "Clarke, slow it do–"
I was cut off by the feeling of her lips being pressed against mine, and her hand cupping my jaw. To say I was surprised was an understatement, but I didn't let whatever I was feeling stop me from kissing back the girl I love.
Clarke Griffin was kissing me.
When breathing became an issue, we reluctantly pulled away from each other, but I still found myself wrapped up in her arms. I opened my eyes and was instantly met with her seas of blue staring right back at me. God, she was so beautiful, and now that I was closer than ever to her, I wanted to lean forward and capture her lips in mine once again.
"I love you," she said breathlessly. "I love you, Y/N."
I raised my eyebrows with shock. "Holy shit, really?" When I saw her eyebrows furrow together, I quickly said, "Shit, I mean– no, I didn't mean– oh my– wow."
"Wow?"
"No, uh, I want to–" I cursed to myself when I couldn't express myself clearly. "Screw it."
I pressed my lips against hers once again, this time leading as I expressed my feelings a lot more better this time. I felt her confusion before she began to return the kiss, and I couldn't help but smile at the realisation that she loved me, and unfortunately, it broke apart our kiss.
"I'm guessing you love me, too?" she asked, a beautiful smile gracing her lips.
I chuckled, nodding my head. "You guessed correctly, Griffin. I love you so freakin' much."
