I have a lot of thoughts. I think for 2024 I don't want to be around people who believe writing and fandoms are a competition. I am tired of having to triple check and guess at peoples intentions. I am tired of being wary of people.

Regardless, to an extent, you have to be wary with everyone, but I am tired of it tipping over into a paranoia. I think a lot of people have lost the meaning of fandom. That, or I have a very clearly different definition.

I view fandom as a fun hobby. An outlet. I like treating everyone equally. I imagine us all in a space where we are on equal ground. We are free to talk to whoever unless there has been a block in place or a clear boundry expressed.

We share 'food' (fanfics, fanart, idle thoughts, fun convos, etc) for the sake of Sharing. Not for the sake of being better than one another. Not for the sake of being 'the best' at xyz. We may feel bad when our 'food' doesn't seem as well liked as others, but thats not the others fault. Not even our fault. Some people may have just ate when we put our food out. Maybe some people hadn't even arrived yet. But its there waiting.

We have our friends. Our friends have their friends. We just co-exist.

I don't compare. I don't look at my masterlist, all my notes, and heave sighs that its smaller than so and sos. I don't laugh when its bigger than others. I look at it as an archive for what I was able to do this year.

I do not view people as their follower counts. I don't base my actions towards people around numbers. I base my actions towards others on how they have treated me, my friends, or others. I don't think of this as a numbers game. I don't think of this as something to 'win' at.

I can tell you that I used to, years before I joined cyb*rd fandoms. I can tell you I fell for people coaching me on how to 'behave' in fandoms, that I should only focus on numbers, not people. I can tell you it made me miserable. Made my love for writing and similar take a heavy hit. That it felt fine at first, until I realized viewing people as a number meant thats all they viewed me as. Another step towards some bullshit about 'popularity'.

Why do we want faceless numbers to be more important than genuine connection with others. Why do we make faceless numbers into ammo to use against others. It gives me a headache. I am tired of trying to make human connections based off of a love of a shared hobby only to realize, that oh. They love the 15 minutes of fame, not those who surround them. That oh, this is not made with the love for sharing creation, this was made for views. For clicks. For 'popularity'. I am tired.

Can I ask on your headcannon on how the darkness formed?

Not without #ridspoilers!

Major spoilers for "This Is Halloween" (Only posted on FFN)

Warning for all caps 'fic excerpt below the cut, along with (/checks notes)... a baby getting unraveled into yarn that's ripped straight out of his body by a dragon god. It's fine.

Spirits Overview

At the end of the "Wishology" trilogy, Timmy turns the Darkness into the Kindness / Yellowness. I've always interpreted this to mean it was the Yellowness in the first place (Light, possibly), but became corrupted in some way over time.

In Cloudlands AU, many magical forces are also known as nature spirits. Fairies tend to see them in physical forms while Anti-Fairies tend to see them as living creatures. These spirits appear several times throughout my Anti-Cosmo backstory 'fic (Frayed Knots), as well as "First Things First" (When Tarrow's 7 sons are children); we see several during "This Is Halloween" as well.

Ex: To Anti-Fairies, the Hocus Poconos is just as alive as the Darkness is. The April Fool and Easter Bunny are both nature spirits too, representing springtime.

I count Yellow as the firstborn spirit... the embodiment of Reality. Anti-Fairies call him the cosmic jellyfish, believing his tentacles reach all across the universe. His natural opposite is Unreality (the Hocus Poconos), who is his ex. They had one kid together. Reality's third kid was born of his tears when the Hocus Poconos dumped him.

Anti-Fairies are creatures of balance and are always running around trying to keep the spirits happy. There's an upcoming arc in my works where Anti-Cosmo is trying to babysit the embodiment of Pixie World (who is a toddler in parallel to Pixie World being a brand new micronation at the time) because H.P. can't see him.

I had a whole arc in Frayed Knots where Anti-Cosmo got captured by the spirit of life (The hen goddess alluded to in "Chicken Poofs"), who wanted him to babysit her kids, but I don't think that'll make it into the final product.

Reality

Reality was born when space and time merged together; he grew from atoms and took on solid/ethereal form. He has many forms, such as the scarlet jellyfish or yellow dragon.

It's widely considered inappropriate to represent him with yellow in Fairy World because that color is reserved for the Fairy Elder. The red jellyfish is the much more common form, so much so that in modern times, it was forgotten the red jellyfish and yellow dragon represent the same deity.

Once Reality had his form, he created conscious forms for time and space, who became his parents (Mother Nature and Father Time). They formed new spirits over time.

In the A New Wish spin-off ("1500 Minutes of Fame"), when Father Time says he can't bend the rules for Hazel because he'd "get in trouble with his boss," he's referring to Reality.

The Darkness

I haven't given much thought to Reality's downward slide. For the most part, he keeps to himself. He's a notoriously absent father and is usually drifting aimlessly through space... hence his association with a brainless but sprawling jellyfish.

Reality's 7 kids embody the elements on the Fae zodiac. They're admired by Anti-Fairies, but tend to be selfish. Anti-Wanda is the mortal host to the Sky spirit and Anti-Cosmo to the Water spirit. Foop is due to become host to the Breath spirit when he's of age, but he desperately doesn't want to share his body with that guy... We'll see a whole arc about this towards the end of my 130 Prompts series.

Reality's job is to fix cracks in time and space, preserving the FOP universe the way it is. For example, Jimmy Neutron can jump into this universe, leaving Reality to patch cracks between worlds.

I like to think that Reality went by that name for much of his existence, but after the events of "Wishology," he starts reclaiming his identity as Yellow, as Timmy helped him push through feelings of abandonment, despair, and self-loathing.

Because he's a major spirit, you won't see him in the cloudlands unless it's incredibly important. He spends a lot of time guarding a magical fountain that provides the cloudlands with magic, relaxing in his golden dragon form. Still an absent dad, but #not as big a jerk as he could've been.

'Fic Excerpt

Here's an excerpt from a 'fic of mine (Identity Theft) where we see Yellow in his godly element (in Season 7, post-"Wishology"). This draft is on long-term hiatus, but I'd like to post it around 2027-28 when I'm hopefully done with my other FOP longfics. We'll see...

It delves into Foop's childhood trauma and DID. Chapter 1 here depicts Foop in the alt universe he was sent to at the end of S7's "Playdate of Doom."

That blinding snap of magic plunged straight through the center of his forehead and down his spine. Foop doubled forward first, unable to form thoughts- let alone protests. 

Then Yellow ripped the soul straight out of him, flinging Foop’s head back with whiplash. In fact, he lost his head completely. It unraveled into stripes of yarn. Yarn which Yellow, quiet on his haunches, twirled through the air in glowing loops and spirals. It floated around his spread claws. He had fourteen great hands now, and that didn’t include his fourteen draconic legs. Had he always had so many hands? Or was it suddenly so few?

The yarn continued to unravel, eating away at Foop’s flesh. Soon there was nothing left of him but his toes, and then those too were torn away. The young anti-fairy (or the matter which had once comprised a young anti-fairy) found itself left with nothing but smoke. Yellow held the yarn suspended, studying a small section of it between each pair of his hands. When he pinched with his talons, a screech burst in ancient agony from a place that didn’t exist.

Bonus scene of Foop trying to get the nature spirits to guide him out of Fae heaven and back to the mortal world, because I wrote this circa 2018 and it still makes me laugh:

Foop stood there, paralyzed. The only coherent thought streaking through his mind was, Don’t make chicken jokes if you want to live, don’t make chicken jokes if you want to live.  Because from the waist up, the Prince of Leaves looked fairly normal, albeit with smooth skin as black as the midnight sky and mottled with glowing white and yellow stars. Not to mention four arms. But from the waist down, his lower half mimicked that of a resplendent rooster. Foop’s second coherent thought was, Why does a supposedly perfect demigod need to wear glasses?

anya jenkins ⚜️ aware "sorceress"; anya is getting a memory upgrade right before this event, so she now remembers up to the end of hell's bells & has fully regained her demon powers; she is also aware of the changes but since this medieval time period is close to when she was her original human identity 'aud', she finds it very familiar. she does miss the conveniences of the modern world, though... like the luxury of lightweight paper money vs coins. she is passing off her demon powers as that of a sorceress that grants wishes.

chloe decker ⚜️ unaware lieutenant; she is suspicious of the place, but can't pinpoint what exactly has her feeling something is off. but she can't shake the feeling. in this world, she still works in law enforcement of sorts, not much 'investigating' here... but that's reserved for delving more into her suspicions. for her, hoping at some point she'll become aware so that could be played with/plotted out.

tak dongkyung ⚜️ unaware stationer & copyist; she sells the books that she scribes. she remembers everything & everyone— just within this medieval setting.

It's unreal how Metelkina/Berulava try so hard to serve campy original out of the box programs and end up always serving something on a scale from "deeply cursed" to "rotten cringe".

Also me seeing this blatant PapCiz rip off : you will never be Fame 2019/2020 RD.

To piggyback on your other anon, while I was not a fan of PC in general, there were times where I did enjoy their programs like To Build a Home and the Fame RD (over time,I think PC became more and more pretentious and self-consciously promoting themselves as the only real artists in the field, which was both untrue and annoying).

I see what your other anon means by saying Gabi was the star. Her presence is missed when you see FB/C perform. Without Gabi, the performances feel sterile and cold. Gabi was the weaker skater, but she was the better performer because she had some kind of emotional core. Guillaume himself has always felt a bit cold to me as a performer and this new partnership accentuates it in an unfortunate way.

Laurence had great chemistry with her former partner, but they were a real life couple, so maybe it wasn’t as hard for them to generate. Also, he was a much better lifter than Guillaume, so now you’ve lost the kind of show stopping lift elements that she used to have. FBC will have some better technical elements than they did in their former partnerships, but I don’t think it will offset the losses in other areas.

I don’t think this is gonna be a coronation for them by any stretch. But I guess time will tell.

Interestingly, I was never a fan of their to build a home FD, even though it was their breakout program, I think my favorite FD from them was Duet/Sunday afternoon, to me it felt like their most genuine FD.

I actually think Laurance is a more charismatic skater than Gabi, I think Gabi matured beautifully and was the better perfriner between P/C, but P/C always lacked chemistry and charisma IMO so in my mind it's hard to see Gabi as a star (which doesn't mean she didn't have other great qualities). I expect FB/C to have around the same (if not slightly more) chemistry as P/C had, I think it's too soon to judge their chemistry level from the little we've seen. But I agree there was nothing special in what we've seen so far.

The lifts FB/C will have are an area I'm very intrigued about, Cizeron was never a strong lifter and P/C had some of the most juniorish and generic lifts, but given Laurance is one of the ice dancers with the most insane core strength they are likely to be able to up their game, but I can't imagine they will reach the level of FB/S's lifts, Cizeron doesn't have it in him.

What I'm most curious about? Are their "we are aiming for 2030" just a play to make their one-season comeback less controversial, or are they really planning on sticking around?

Championnats RD-

junior ice dance is so fun - so far they’re going much harder than seniors on the period costumes. a number of these teams were at Next Gen, so it was fun to see them live. i’m adopting Aurea Cincon-Debout and Earl Jesse Celestino- their Jacksons RD is adorable, and they’re currently in 2nd. Gauthier/Thieren made their debut. not sure if they’re coming off injury or if they had a conflict with Next Gen. their Jagger/Bowie RD went from Honkytonk Woman to Fame and Dancin in the Street, which musically felt all over the place

Senior RD was an entirely IAM event - Romain wore sunglasses the entire time but also was peering over them to watch the teams, so idk if they were style or jet lag or what 😅 Harris/Chan with an ABBA RD that felt like a very natural choice for them. Fabbri/Ayer really solid. this is the 2nd year where they skated well here but also felt like they got a bonus from the home judging panel. Pham/Spiridonov- a program that lets them dance - shows you how important packaging is that he always felt overshadowed by Lorraine and programs that didn’t do him any favors at WISA. these two are still learning each other and have things to work out, but the material brings out good qualities in them - like he has some natural dance ability

Fournier/Zhu are committing all the way to their performances - sometimes he feels like he’s focused on his expression more than on her. this RD doesn’t stand out from the many disco programs. but omg Hannah and Ye’s does - big time - it feels like they took a page from Lilah and Lewis’s playbook in that it’s engineered to bring the crowd to their feet at Worlds. there’s cheering and whistling from the crowd on the track itself, the way they play with tempo changes to build momentum to an organic climax - this is potentially the most exciting RD we’ve seen so far this season. there are sharp details in this already, they’re both projecting- i’m excited about this one

hm. Thinking about Edega.. he’s very interesting to me so I’m gonna ramble for a sec about him.

after 5-2N Ian states this is the most Edega has ever spoken to (Lucky in specific) It’s strange for a cold man like him, but something similar happened with Hugh. The only two people Edega puts priority on were famous and influential, people who really could get word out. Mayhaps Edega wishes to give them the best care possible and do something revolutionary, getting their hospital on the chart. After all he stated himself that their hospital was pretty under due to the staff drought that they need an experimental intern to help. If he could do something revolutionary in medicine and really get that out there things would be better for patients and the staff.

However. This is clearly overshadowed by selfishness. Edega is constantly on Ada and Ian for their productivity and time management, why aren’t they working harder and wasting their time when there’s so much to be done. Everyone must be self sufficient in Edega’s eyes, as long as what needs to be done is done for a patient, it’s good enough. Along with this, Edega always refers to the “ultimate cure” that’s being worked on as HIS, it’s HIS cure all. Despite seemingly Ian doing constant work for this project, intern and Ada gathering the tests and information, and the patients (especially Lucky) being guanine pigs to HIS cure. It’s clear the fame of a cure all bringing way to new things is snuffed by Edega’s intentions to take all fame for himself. They’re subordinates, why should they get credit?

And on that last note- the Patients. It’s already bad that Edega treats them as nothing more then numbers and care for them according to their status, but actively testing on them? The intern rhythm doctor program is stated to be just that a program. However, this program is not an equivalent alternative to healing. It helps in the short term, yes, but as seen with almost every patient they continue to need more treatments then just the one. Cole and Nicole’s addictions weren’t solved by the program, that was having each other, making the result of them being “cured” by the program a false positive.

Then there’s Insomniac. There’s no way Edega could of missed the reports of power getting knocked out in the hospital and my man’s literally LOSING part of his heart. And to be fair while they didn’t know the program caused it, he still didn’t take any procedures like stopping the program or going further into figuring out what went wrong to cause genuine damage. Lucky was being admitted and there was no time to waste on that, this was his chance to bring fame! Ian of course figured it out after chapter 5 inbetween working on this “cure” Edega wanted but it’s pretty clear Edega isn’t stopping the Rhythm Doctor program anytime soon. He’s too close now.

Call him Gabriel Icarus Edega, the sun is grand but the cost will drag him and everyone else down with him.

Supernatural Battle of the Episodes!!

American Nightmare took out Regarding Dean in the closest match we've seen yet. It was 50/50 till the last 2 minutes!!

American Nightmare needs 1 more win to make it to the Hall of Fame and it will probably be Regarding Dean that takes over! So those who love RD, there's still a chance for it to make it to the HoF too!

Now on to the next battle!

Chuck: WOAH!! What a battle!! I think the next episode will be a walk in the park for American Nightmare. Up next we have Family Feud - When people start dying after visiting a maritime museum, Sam and Dean discover a link between a Vengeful Spirit and Gavin McCleod, Crowley's son.

Everyone manifesting a job for L, but I think like your other Anon, it'll be a summer of Soho rd 3 with them using his money and fame to travel and brag. I don't forsee him working this summer, especially if season 4 rumors are true of filiming into June (and how they think he's in every episode-I do not) vs. done in April besides reshoots. Guess we will see.

It’s going to be another trolling summer from the sohoes. 🙄

So RD Evans who recently quit TNA has been picked up by AEW as a producer which can only be good things for them again, he was vital for TNA in producing backstage segements so that's gonna be fantastic.

And as a wrestler Archibald Peck he was one of the funniest guys in Chikara, a good pickup for AEW.

Also infamously quit WWE when Vince McMahon got mad at him during the Hall of Fame speech of Bret Hart!

February 2024 Mangum Dental Hike-of-the-Month

Grandfather Juniper Trail  - In Memory of the Granite Mountain Hotshots

#38 Upper Pasture Trail to #39 White Rock Spring Trail

Distance: 3 – 4.5 miles

 Difficulty:  Easy to Moderate due to rough terrain

 Elevation gain: minimal

Mangum Dental Hike-of-the-Month is reprinted from July 2016 and describes a hike to the Grandfather Juniper, a legendary tree with local fame.  The Juniper tree may be the largest known Juniper in the world with a circumference measuring over 26 ft. at the base.  The tree is estimated to be 1000 years old and was named one of Arizona’s “Magnificent 7” trees for 2015.  Despite these amazing statistics, the tree is special for another reason.  The plaque at the base of the tree tells the entire story. In short, this tree was spared from the Doce Fire in June 2013 through the valiant efforts of the Granite Mountain Hotshots from the City of Prescott Fire Department.  Later that month, responding to another urgent threat to homes and communities, 19 of the 20 hotshots tragically lost their lives. This hike is dedicated to their memory and this tree is a representation of how much we miss our 19 heroes.

Directions: From the intersection of Williamson Valley Road and Iron Springs Road, travel west on Iron Springs for 6.8 miles to Contreras Rd. (between mile marker 8 and 9).  Turn right on Contreras Road and head north .7 miles to a parking area on your right.  Those with low clearance vehicles will want to park here and start the hike. Moderate to high clearance vehicles can follow the rough road to the left (north) out of the parking area (Road 9261U).  The road follows a fence for another .7 miles to the trailhead.  

 The hike: A gate and a sign designate trail #38, Upper Pasture Trail. Follow this old road for slightly less than 1 mile to the well-marked junction of trails #38 and  #39, White Rock Springs Trail.  Turn left or north onto trail #39 and hike for just over ½ mile.  As the trail nears the turn-off for the tree, there will be a short stretch of quartz rock along the path then the trail drops into a creek bed.  Look to the left for a trail marker and follow the single-track trail that heads west. This short path will lead to the Grandfather Juniper, marked with a beautiful monument and plaque dedicated to the Granite Mountain Hotshots.

Zupan's Markets and Fort George Brewery collaborate to release Farm-to-Market IPA.

PORTLAND, OR (JULY 18, 2023) – Zupan’s Markets has partnered with Astoria’s famed Fort George Brewery for the 25th beer in the local grocery store’s Farm-to-Market lineup. The summer IPA is slightly hazy and boasts a rich golden hue and a bright, refreshing crispness.

“Fort George is an iconic piece of Oregon’s brewing scene, and we’re so excited to partner with them and offer their delicious IPA as a summer special,” said Zupan’s Markets President and CEO Mike Zupan. “This golden, hazy ale is a lovely summer quencher, and pairs perfectly with a picnic lunch gathered from Zupan’s shelves and deli.”

Fort George’s Farm-To-Market India pale ale is exclusively available at all three Zupan’s Markets locations. The beer is sold in 16-ounce cans for $4.99 and as a 4-pack for $15.99, and will be available for a limited time only. 

This Fort George India pale ale will also be available at a tap takeover on Wednesday, July 19th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cascadia Heights taproom at 7329 SW Barnes Rd, Portland, OR, 97225.

Farm to Market Beer Profile: ABV 6.8% Hops: Columbus Cryo, 17701, Waimea Malts: Rahr Pilsner, Grain Millers Flaked Oats, Grain Millers Flaked Wheat, Weyermann Acidulated Tasting Notes: Big tangerine and ripe apricot with some honey and light malt on the nose. Tangerine, citrus, and melon with a hint of jasmine on the palate. Food Pairings: Fish tacos, fried chicken, Hawaiian pizza, grilled and roasted vegetables, and potatoes. Try it with crispy fish tacos and mango salsa for a summer treat.
