What is the PR disaster in question that made Rick announce TSATS? I wasn’t active in the online fandom at that point
Tumblr media
Of course! This was awhile ago so it figures people don't remember it/aren't familiar:
Basically a couple years back (2020) the fandom had some posts circulate discussing the ways different characters in the Riordanverse were written poorly or offensively. There was a masterpost that went around tumblr but the two major points people were particularly focusing on were Piper and Samirah (particularly because Piper had featured prominently again in Trials of Apollo recently and the third MCGA book had further emphasized and discussed Samirah being Muslim, since it was supposed to take place during Ramadan). Basically each had multiple posts breaking down the ways they were depicted incorrectly or offensively. The entire fandom for a little bit was VERY intensely discussing this (and it's around this time the "RR crit" tag got very popularized on tumblr - it did exist before, but suddenly was being used VERY frequently - cause it was that wide-spread - though the discussion took over basically every side of Riordaverse social media on different platforms). People really wanted Rick to respond to these criticisms, so he did!
He made two blog posts, one about Piper and one about Samirah. He has since deleted both so the links are to archived versions. The short version: he essentially tried to justify his poor research and double-down that he hadn't written them offensively, actually, people were just being mean to him. The fandom, of course, reacted poorly to this.
[Further elaborated events under the cut since this got a bit lengthy]
(Fun fact, this all happened within a month or so of the time i posted an open letter on aphobic tropes in the Riordanverse that Rick replied to, and then he immediately followed with announcing that Reyna was intended to be ace-coded [which cause a LOT of fandom debate] before Rick dipped for a couple of weeks, and then came back to post the blog posts in response to Piper and Sam stuff. So I like to jokingly refer to this as "The time I imploded the fandom/drove Rick off of twitter." Twas I that set the house ablaze.)
Rick fully left social media after this and the LT Musical social media manager became Rick's social media manager for the time being.
So this all happened June/July of 2020. Tower of Nero would end up being published in October of 2020 and a few months after that Rick would state that he was done with the series and wouldn't be writing any more series installments involving Percy, and also that he wouldn't be writing a Nico quest following Tower of Nero as it "wasn't his place to" and encouraged the community to write their own versions of Nico's story.
The community continued to circulate the tumblr posts and discuss the topics of Rick's offensive character depictions, and this is also where we see the dramatic shift in how the fandom depicts Piper in fanwork (though in most cases it is admittedly not an improvement 😬) because of all this discussion. This is also around the time when the fandom brought Viria under scrutiny claiming that she was whitewashing Piper as part of the same discussions, through the justification that she was drawing Annabeth as having tan skin (which she does canonically), and if Annabeth has tanner skin then Piper then that's whitewashing Piper? Except they were using completely separate images of not fully rendered Piper art versus Annabeth in dramatic lighting, so it's all very awkward and poor logic, and did actually get kind of racist. A lot of people were calling it "Tannabeth Blackchase" (yeah, i know) or similar and a common sentiment you'd see repeated is "Don't draw Annabeth as having darker skin than Piper, because that's offensive/racist/whitewashing." (Note: it was not phrased "don't draw Piper as having lighter skin than Annabeth" - we also won't get into certain offensive depictions of Native Americans, but I digress). But yeah, the Annabeth stuff in all that did not age well at all.
Anyways, in October of 2021 however Rick would announce that he was co-writing The Sun And The Star - with a lot of heavy emphasis on how Mark Oshiro works as a sensitivity reader, and some false advertising from the official social media that Mark Oshiro was the first time a non-Riordan author would be collaborating on the series (disregarding the ghostwriters completely). One of the big criticisms in the breaking down of issues in Rick's writing was his lack of ever seeking a sensitivity reader, and fans claiming that a sensitivity reader could solve a lot of the problems. This was basically Rick's "look! I totally listened!!!!" (though it did little to actually improve things, based on the book) and in TSATS as well Piper gets a large cameo at the end where the text very directly addresses a lot of points made in criticism of Rick's writing of her.
We also then of course got the CoTG trilogy later, explicitly stated to be for advertising purposes for the show.
So basically, short version: Rick came under scrutiny for a lot of offensive writing within the span of two months, made some bad blog posts doubling down about it, left social media. TOA ends. Rick says he wasn't going to continue the series/write what would become TSATS. Community celebrates the end of of the franchise but also continues to discuss Rick's poor writing and the blog posts at length. Rick suddenly announces TSATS and Mark Oshiro's involvement. Everybody gets distracted from being mad. Show announcement stuff also happens and the discussions peter out.

Take my soul, leave my body.
Pairing: Levi Ackerman x female reader.
Warning: smut, NSFW 18+, minors dni.
Content: depictions of grief and guilt, solo masturbation, edging, choking, Levi cumming his brains out .
Author’s notes: Hi! This is my first one-shot ever. I hope I gave Levi’s character justice, as I absolutely adore him and he lives in my mind rent free. Keep in mind English is not my native language, so watch out for mistakes. Thank you for reading and enjoy!
Levi’s left alone in his office, but thoughts of you distract him from his paperwork.
The mess hall buzzes alive in the general uproar of the evening. The smell of wood wafts through the air, dishes being served left and right to greedy soldiers, who converse loudly and eat even more so. The sound of plates clanking together accompany the movement of dozens of people who walk past pushing each other, talking and grinning with the approach of the evening.
Flashes of green and brown pass by Lance Corporal Levi, seated on the veteran’s benches. Not bothered to entertain, the man remains firmly rooted to his spot, seemingly set in stone. A permanent scowl rests on his shapely lips, disturbing his otherwise polished appearance. A porcelain cup, fair like his complexion, rests between his elongated fingers, onyx bangs brushing against his eyelashes, uniform impeccably clean. Despite his still demeanour, nobody seems inclined to approach him tonight.
Not that he particularly cares for it, anyways. In fact, he’s glad he’s alone. Remnants of the day keep sneaking into his mind, confusing themselves with thoughts of his duties, the next expeditions, the upcoming training sessions. He’s annoyed, but most of all tired. His fingers tighten around the rim of the cup as soldiers bustle about next to him, shouting at a considerably high volume.
For him, it is one of those heavy nights: he feels a headache coming on this early into the dusk. He knows the tea won’t help; he’s too preoccupied by his own thoughts, granted to him in the form of discomfort, laced with a feeling whose definition he can’t quite place a finger upon. Typically it seethes deep in his being, reminding him of his past, prompting memories to arise deep in the nightfall; he thinks back to his youth, his companions in the Underground, his mother, alongside a recent addition: you. The emotion always renders him utterly useless, until the burning in his eyes subsides almost completely by the dawn of the following day and it stops washing over him in waves.
That’s why he doesn’t notice when you enter the hall. You’re with your comrades, your smile a bight contrast against the dark atmosphere, delighted at the prospect of finally relaxing in front of a plate of warm food. He doesn’t notice when you deliberately pick the table next to his, and when you sit on the furthest spot on the bench besides his, he feigns indifference until he lifts his gaze.
Before he can react, you greet him over the sounds of the hall.
-Good evening, Captain- you say, velvety tone wrapping around him.
A couple of beats pass between the two of you. Then, there is a single indication of his acknowledgment: a mechanical nod, along with a look towards your direction.
His stormy irises glint under the dim lights of the room, like gray crystals shining in the moonlight. You don’t miss the gravity of the stare he shoots your way. You don’t think much of it: it seems a regular gesture, befitting of his intense character.
But you don’t detect the slight tremble of his fingertips, nor the way his gaze runs over you, taking in how you look, your expressions, your every move. He observes the outline of your face and neck even after you turn your head away from him, his slated eyes raking over your jacket. In his imagination, he would like to lean over, so close you would almost be touching, gently grab your wrist and feel the weight of your skin beneath his fingertips. He would be close enough to perceive the heat of your breath, and maybe he’d ask you questions and listen to you intently, without ever missing a word spewing from your lips. Maybe he’d even take you away, if you would let him.
But Levi is a rational man. He lives his life in the silent promise that one day, his heart's deepest desires will be fulfilled, and yet when anguish catches up to him, irrefutably and achingly, he’s terrified. He wholeheartedly wishes it would be the opposite, but every time he attempts to escape, it doubles down on him, suffocating him entirely.
So he looks away when your head tilts towards him. He doesn’t want to deal with the idea of you tonight. He’s aware he’s scarred, and all he wants to do this evening is to bask in his loneliness. So he convinces himself it would be wrong of him to trouble you.
He suddenly feels the urge to leave. The sound of laughter spreads trough the hall, the wood creaking as he lifts from his seat, swiftly and silently. A strange sensation simmers in his gut and engulfs him completely, and the next time you look towards his direction, he’s gone.
****************************************************************************************************************************
Levi walks away. The freezing corridor walls exude quietness, the only discernible sound his boots tapping against the cement floor, creating a rhythmic noise. He opens the door to his office, and he’s greeted by a familiar sight: bundles of paper on his elegant mahogany desk. The moonlight beams though the windows, ensuring a subdued and soft ambience, and the door closes behind him with a soft click. His shoulders drop as he walks over to his chair, exhaling softly through his nose. The rug mutes his boots, providing a muffled sound, disrupted by the squeaking of the chair as soon as he sits down.
The moon is ever-present, with a warm milky glow in the sky. Levi believes the sight of it could become a song in the eyes of anyone willing to raise their head upward. He’s reminded of his childhood, the moon his exclusive and solitary companion during those restless nights, in the city whose inhabitants sleep, while sorrow doesn’t.
He pinches the area between his brows. The dull headache doesn’t seem to pass, and he opts to distract himself by opening the stack of paperwork and grabbing a report, in order to not sit up late and think about reasons why he shouldn’t try with you. He always feels as though when he moves and speaks it’s his shadow, but he’s convinced when you look at him, it’s him really.
Because of this, Levi sometimes cannot stand himself. He’s certain he despises himself when during the never-ending dusk hours his mind, branded with your image, reels in contemplation of you, like right now.
The pen wavers in his hand as a persistent impulse creeps at the forefront of his mind.
He hates how much of an effect you have on him. He thinks of you these past few days, and the images his mind comes up with are proof of his longing: flashes of your pale, damp neck during training sessions, when you think he’s not looking. Your eyes, seductive and always welcoming. Rosy, pillowy lips in an almost perfect shape, never set in a straight line, inviting. He would be dishonest if he stated he’d never thought of them wrapping around his own, drawing out his breath, kissing him all over.
He lifts his hand, rubbing his temples even harder now. Levi’s sure it’s sinful, but he’s been dreaming of giving you highs. Of pleasuring you until you’re stupid, making you thoughtless against his sheets, quivering with satisfaction.
His mind fogs like the cold unfurling on a glass panel.
He would know how to treat you properly. At least, that’s what he always tells himself when twilight approaches. As the numbing coolness of nightfall imprints itself perpetually on the windowsills, rendering him scornful and estranged, he’s aware atonement is inconceivable.During these moments he’s reminded of everything and nothing at all simultaneously: your presence contained in fleeting fractions of time. Often, when he thinks of you, his heartbeat expands beneath his collar as darkness consumes him.
He’s aware he’s not allowed to have you, of course. Even more certain he’s not entitled to you; he thinks he would hate it if you so much as looked at him spitefully. And yet, he’s imagined your figure in impossible positions, his graceful fingers touching you, reaching spots bound to have you breathless, even better - gasping for air. The palms of his hands caressing the span of your entire frame, rousing goosebumps in their wake. His toned, lithe back spanning in between your thighs, his delicate tongue languidly tracing circles in places only he should see.
He knows you should be bent, but not ruined. Twisted, but not deformed. He has already seen the fire in your eyes, only he longs to feel it inflicted on him. He wouldn’t shun you for it, but most of all, he wouldn’t avoid it. He doesn’t believe he will ever steer clear of it when it burns through him, searing him alive.
He shifts in his seat. He feels hardness prodding at the fabric of his pants. The room is scorching hot, and he leans back in his chair in an attempt to calm himself, closing his eyes.
His ebony hair appears tousled and soft, inky strands scraping against his bare neck. Heat becomes visible on his cheeks, vividly pink. He’s always loathed how effortlessly his skin reacts; in the Underground, kids would mock him and call him names for being so pale. But right now, he doesn’t care. He doesn’t care at all when the only thing on his mind is you. The air is stuffy, and everything on his body seems too tight, too confining.
He starts taking off his jacket, folding it on his desk, but the movement causes his pen to fall to the ground.
-Fuck- he curses, his voice cutting through the stuffy air, sounding foreign even to him.
But he doesn’t bother lifting it, guilt eating him alive. Would it be so wrong to relieve himself just one time? Levi doesn’t think he will ever be able to answer such a question. His cock throbs in his pants. Levi curses again. As his body betrays him, he recalls how he’s used all his willpower these past few weeks, and one thing he’s certain of: there’s not a single strand left.
So he values his options: slaving away on the paperwork until morning, or surrendering to his filthy desires. Before he can even follow his reasonings, he shifts in seat again, not realising his mistake. His train of thoughts is immediately interrupted when his bare hand brushes against his dick. He nearly moans from the contact, shivers running down the length of his back.
All rationality is gone out of the window in an instant when he grabs himself through the fabric of his uniform, and the sinful noise he spews will remain forever embedded in his brain.
He wonders if you hate him now.
In his mind, he begs for your forgiveness. But the need for you grows too strong. Especially when he rids himself of his shirt and cravat, and especially when he unbuttons his pants and doesn’t even bother to take them off all the way. He stops where the ODM gear marks are engraved on the planes of his muscular thighs, and pants wildly as he frees his dick from all kinds of restrictions.
He doesn’t have time to rationalize any of it, and he doesn’t think he wants to.He reels forward as he presses his thumb to his bright red tip, groaning when he rolls it in slow, tormenting circles. He wraps his palm around the sensitive area, huffing through his mouth as he starts moving up and down in sensual motions.
He thinks of having his way with you. He throws his head back as he fantasizes of bending you over, taking you right there in his office against the lacquered mahogany. He dreams of wrapping your hair around his hand and tugging it, forcing you to arch your back and allowing him to pound into you even harder. He moans particularly loudly when he focuses on the vein on the underside of his dick, imagining it’s you between his legs, running your precious tongue all over him, drooling over his round balls and rhythmically taking him deeper into your throat.
He feels his high approaching too fast. He’s gasping as he bunches up the fabric of his pants in his right hand. To give himself a reprieve, he spits into it, and squeezes his manhood as his saliva mixes with his precum. His abs stretch over miles of skin, and pearly beads of liquid fall languidly on the short, dark hairs of his pelvis. He looks gorgeous like this, deprived and wanton.
And so he whimpers when he thumbs his slit in an upwards motion, and falls apart slowly; he is so needy, but nothing is enough anymore. He wants to cum so bad- the stimulation is insufficient, and he grows desperate by the second.
He lifts his hand up and brushes against his nipples. He thinks of your cunt swaddling him in its wonderful heat, while you ride him on the exact chair he’s sitting on. His hand speeds up, and the only sounds heard in the room are his wheezing and the heavy squelching caused by his movements.A known sensation envelops him totally, and he doesn’t stop. He can’t stop, not anymore.
He’s certain you’ve bewitched him. As he pictures your pussy on his tongue, he experiments by closing his hand around his throat, cutting off his oxygen supply completely. The reaction is immediate: one of his knees comes up and he knocks something off his desk. He doesn’t bother looking. You have him right where he wants to be: weak with desire. He stifles a groan.
He understands that if you asked him for anything, he would give it away. He would do it, for you, and you only. He’s hanging right there, and for a split second he thinks he might slip and ruin everything. But Levi is not a person prone to making errors.
Right before his unravelling, he forcefully grasps the base of his dick and pushes down. His muscles tense up entirely, tears prickling his eyes. He heaves.
The sensation fizzles out around his tip, smouldering and taking over him. He cries out, his hips rising up. He knows that If it were you doing this, he would be begging.
He holds out for another moment, lifting his hand from his throat and grabbing the handles of the chair. Then, he furiously brings his hand down and touches himself.
A single tear escapes his eyes, and he nearly wails.
He chokes as his raging high washes over him, igniting him from the inside out. His muscles tremble though his entire peak as sweat dribbles down his forehead, his face scrunched up in an agonisingly beautiful expression.
Levi has never come this hard. Deep inside, he wishes you were here to witness it.
When he finally opens his eyes, they’re glazed over. Exhaustion seeps into his bones, milky white liquid sticking his fingers together. Cotton seems to have lodged itself into his ears, and while he would prefer to clean himself immediately, he’s too tired to.
He runs his hand over his manhood once more, his hand limp, and he almost hisses from the overstimulation. Papers are strewn all over the floor, a picture of his mind, and he gulps as he sits up further on the chair. He hears voices down the corridor, and he lifts his gaze towards his window.
One thing he’s positive of: he knows he can’t be saved. Nobody knows how will end will unfold. None of your gods can redeem him; so, as moonlight whispers pale hues into the dreamy night, he hopes you absolve him.

DEMO
Last updated: 21 June 2022. Wordcount: 24k words (average playthrough of 17k word)
Rating: 16+ (mentions of mental illness, violence, blood, sexual themes, strong language, transphobia, chronic pain)
The Chosen One is a text-based fantasy epic story where, as it often happens, you are the one chosen by the Prophecy, destined to fight in the Last War under the King. Unlike your average tale, though, you most certainly know to be the Chosen One and you have spent all your life waiting for your King's call.
You will NOT be the victim of events out of your control, nor you'll be an unwilling participant. You are not an orphan, and your family will not be slaughtered in order for you to unravel your true purpose in this world.
Oh, no. Absolutely not.
Instead, you are prepared and in control. You are powerful, more powerful than any other being that ever walked through this land, and you are ready to fulfil your destiny.
When the story begins, you are in the North, waiting. And when the call finally, finally, happens, you have to set off for the South with your Mentor, as specified in the prophecy. The Last Journey has begun.
Every interaction counts, remember that. But remember also that you are the Chosen One: you can do what you want, you have the power to forge whatever future you want for the Regions and for yourself.
LOVE INTEREST
RASCIA | The Forgotten One Healer (gender selectable M/NB/F): the colour of their skin, as well as the arcane language that litters it, marks them as kaehan, a native of the very kingdom you are prophesised to fight against. But destiny works in strange ways and maybe, after all, they were the one you needed all along. You will have to travel far before you meet them, though, and you will have to fight and to lose more that you ever thought you could shed. Because before you rise, you have to fall.
Rascia is a tall (1.79 m/5'11") person, with wavy waist length sapphire hair, a coral complexion and bright sea blue eyes. Their lean body is almost totally covered by religious silver tattoos, now rendered useless by their condition. As a result of their loss of faith, Rascia is completely colorblind.
OTHER CHARACTERS
The Mentor: they, as you, are part of the Prophecy, chosen to accompany you in the Last Journey. Your bond is... strained. You only want to be looked at with some sort of pride but all you seem to find in their eyes lately is doubt.
ASHEN | The Hero: you'll soon meet them. Remember this, though: keep your jealousy at bay before it starts consuming you.
The King: not much to say to that. They are the king of the land, you never obviously met them and their true intentions remain unknown.
FEATURES
customize your MC's name, physical appearance, gender (M, F or NB, cisgender or transgender) and preferred magic (elemental magic, enchantments, illusion magic).
play as a semi set character, with a sharp tongue and a very strong personality, but with a soft spot for plants and kind healers
choose the rune that's engraved in your skin, and choose carefully because every Region will react accordingly.
build or destroy relationships with the cast, and find, in the midst of the Last War, the only one you can truly be yourself with.
The story will be released on Itch.io chapter by chapter (with a not so accurately estimated total of 9 total chapters) and will be completely free form start to finish.

My sense of what Crossovers are for, conceptually, the thing they do that other works can't, was entirely formulated by my early-childhood exposure to Kurt Busiek and George Perez's seminal 2004 Marvel/DC crossover JLA/Avengers. Like most stuff Busiek writes it's a love-letter, and part-and-parcel with its status as a love-letter was that he took the time to render the horror and bewilderment that the respective teams had upon encountering the status-quo of their counterpart's setting. The JLA encounter the anti-mutant hysteria, the supervillainous fiefdoms like Latveria, figures like Hulk and Punisher being allowed to roam free, all those tonal hallmarks of Marvel, and they come to the conclusion that the Marvel Universe is hanging on by its fingernails and that the Avengers are somewhere between in over their heads and actively negligent. Meanwhile the Avengers explore the shiny, forward-thinking, optimistic DC universe, encounter the ubiquitously positive reactions they get from people on the street just for visibly Being Superheroes, see things like the Flash Museum and the Hall of Justice, and Captain America comes to the conclusion that the Justice League obviously must have led a fascist takeover of America. Then they hit each other a lot. Anyway, if you're writing a crossover between two works and you want me to care at all, you need to meet the JLA/Avengers Bar. When a character from one work is placed in the context of another work's setting, what commentary on the original work is that character in a position to provide through their outlook and worldview? What insight, in turn, can their commentary provide on on the assumptions and conventions of their native narrative? Have all characters involved experienced enough of the events of their own work that they've actually got something to compare and contrast with, or is the crossover occurring so early in one or more of their respective timelines that you're basically dealing with OCs due to the butterfly effect? Are you actually acknowledging the different properties as discrete narratives that are abrading each other in interesting ways, or are you for the one millionth time reimagining Izuku Midoriya as a native resident of some other setting (seemingly decided via roulette wheel?) And of course, are you correct in your assessments of how these are bouncing off each other? How many times am I getting hit with "They would not fucking say that/react like that/understand their new surroundings in that way/go five minutes without trying to disembowel this fan-favorite character from the other work that you've decided they're getting along great with?"

I love the joy in you
Summary
An offhand remark by Crowley about Aziraphale's hair brings back a bad memory for the angel. But a revelation from the demon could turn that memory into a pleasant one.
Notes
Prompt : "Your hair is so soft. Like a bunny."
On Ao3
Rating G -  420 words
Tumblr media
Light jazzy music came from the gramophone.
A soft, warm breeze blew in through the window, gently rustling the curtains.
Aziraphale was snuggled against Crowley on the sofa, lulled by the hypnotic movement of the demon's long fingers in his hair, feeling the numbness that precedes sleep begin to overtake him.
Suddenly, Crowley's voice disturbed the peaceful atmosphere, "Your hair is so soft. Like a bunny."
The angel replied in a lazy voice, "Did you just compare me to a bunny?"
Crowley chuckled slightly and ruffled Aziraphale's hair before resuming his caresses.
Aziraphale continued, "How would you know, have you ever petted a rabbit?"
Crowley replied, "Need I remind you of Harry?"
Aziraphale muttered, "Thank you for reminding me of that disastrous children's show.
Crowley bowed his head and, grasping the angel's chin, said, "Well, the kids may not have enjoyed the show, but I thought you were both adorable."
Aziraphale laughed self-deprecatingly and replied dubiously, "Yes, yes, that's right. Adorably ridiculous, yes."
Crowley held the angel's chin and insisted, "I did find you adorable. I didn't have time to dwell on it, with Hellhound and Armageddon, you know. But you were adorable in my memory. And do you know why?"
Aziraphale shook his head, and Crowley, running his thumb gently over his lips, said softly, "Because you were doing something you loved. No matter that the reason was our shared mission, no matter that the kids didn't welcome it, you were having fun. Just like on stage in 1941, without the shotgun stunt, of course. When you're enjoying something you love like that, it's like when you're eating one of your favorite dishes or tasting a fine wine or listening to your favorite piece of music, you have this expression of deep joy and it makes you absolutely adorable."
Giving the angel no time to react, Crowley leaned in, his mouth replacing his thumb on the angel's lips in a tender kiss.
When their lips parted, although the Angel's cheeks were flushed, there was a playful gleam in his eyes as he said, "Well, I have to have that expression right now, don't I? Because I'm really enjoying something that I love. And you know what? I intend to keep doing it."
He passed his tongue over his lips and added in a whisper, "Right now.
Taking advantage of having rendered the demon speechless for a fleeting second, Aziraphale lifted his head to capture Crowley's lips in turn, filled with delight as he fully enjoyed the one he loved.

The History Of A Progress In Black Glass Trinkets
Les Mis Letters reading club explores one chapter of Les Misérables every day. Join us on Discord, Substack - or share your thoughts right here on tumblr - today's tag is #lm 1.5.1
And in the meantime, what had become of that mother who according to the people at Montfermeil, seemed to have abandoned her child? Where was she? What was she doing?
After leaving her little Cosette with the Thénardiers, she had continued her journey, and had reached M. sur M.
This, it will be remembered, was in 1818.
Fantine had quitted her province ten years before. M. sur M. had changed its aspect. While Fantine had been slowly descending from wretchedness to wretchedness, her native town had prospered.
About two years previously one of those industrial facts which are the grand events of small districts had taken place.
This detail is important, and we regard it as useful to develop it at length; we should almost say, to underline it.
From time immemorial, M. sur M. had had for its special industry the imitation of English jet and the black glass trinkets of Germany. This industry had always vegetated, on account of the high price of the raw material, which reacted on the manufacture. At the moment when Fantine returned to M. sur M., an unheard-of transformation had taken place in the production of “black goods.” Towards the close of 1815 a man, a stranger, had established himself in the town, and had been inspired with the idea of substituting, in this manufacture, gum-lac for resin, and, for bracelets in particular, slides of sheet-iron simply laid together, for slides of soldered sheet-iron.
This very small change had effected a revolution.
This very small change had, in fact, prodigiously reduced the cost of the raw material, which had rendered it possible in the first place, to raise the price of manufacture, a benefit to the country; in the second place, to improve the workmanship, an advantage to the consumer; in the third place, to sell at a lower price, while trebling the profit, which was a benefit to the manufacturer.
Thus three results ensued from one idea.
In less than three years the inventor of this process had become rich, which is good, and had made every one about him rich, which is better. He was a stranger in the Department. Of his origin, nothing was known; of the beginning of his career, very little. It was rumored that he had come to town with very little money, a few hundred francs at the most.
It was from this slender capital, enlisted in the service of an ingenious idea, developed by method and thought, that he had drawn his own fortune, and the fortune of the whole countryside.
On his arrival at M. sur M. he had only the garments, the appearance, and the language of a workingman.
It appears that on the very day when he made his obscure entry into the little town of M. sur M., just at nightfall, on a December evening, knapsack on back and thorn club in hand, a large fire had broken out in the town-hall. This man had rushed into the flames and saved, at the risk of his own life, two children who belonged to the captain of the gendarmerie; this is why they had forgotten to ask him for his passport. Afterwards they had learned his name. He was called Father Madeleine.

The Future of Web Development: Trends, Techniques, and Tools
Web development is a dynamic field that is continually evolving to meet the demands of an increasingly digital world. With businesses relying more on online presence and user experience becoming a priority, web developers must stay abreast of the latest trends, technologies, and best practices. In this blog, we’ll delve into the current landscape of web development, explore emerging trends and tools, and discuss best practices to ensure successful web projects.
Understanding Web Development
Web development involves the creation and maintenance of websites and web applications. It encompasses a variety of tasks, including front-end development (what users see and interact with) and back-end development (the server-side that powers the application). A successful web project requires a blend of design, programming, and usability skills, with a focus on delivering a seamless user experience.
Key Trends in Web Development
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs): PWAs are web applications that provide a native app-like experience within the browser. They offer benefits like offline access, push notifications, and fast loading times. By leveraging modern web capabilities, PWAs enhance user engagement and can lead to higher conversion rates.
Single Page Applications (SPAs): SPAs load a single HTML page and dynamically update content as users interact with the app. This approach reduces page load times and provides a smoother experience. Frameworks like React, Angular, and Vue.js have made developing SPAs easier, allowing developers to create responsive and efficient applications.
Responsive Web Design: With the increasing use of mobile devices, responsive design has become essential. Websites must adapt to various screen sizes and orientations to ensure a consistent user experience. CSS frameworks like Bootstrap and Foundation help developers create fluid, responsive layouts quickly.

Component Libraries: Should You Build Your Own or Use a Prebuilt One?
Tumblr media
Component libraries are a vital tool in web application development in maintaining uniform design, shortening the time taken to develop web applications and improving reusability of the code. Some developers find this dilemma; should they create a component library or use an existing one? In addition, they help reduce the struggle while building well-designed and interactive websites because of the availability of animation-oriented UIs such as Accentricity UI among others. Now, let’s get more to the point in order to help you find the right way.
What is a Component Library?
Component libraries are collections of reusable UI elements such as buttons, forms, modals, and more— and are intended to reuse the components across several projects. Such libraries not only guarantee a consistent look of an application but also save time and costs during its implementation because the elements have been already coded. So, there's no need to build components from scratch.
Prebuilt Component Libraries
Tumblr media
Prebuilt Component Libraries
Prebuilt component libraries are the ready-made collections of different UI components that are specifically designed and optimized for common use cases that developers can face during development. Some well-known examples include:
Material-UI (MUI):
A library based on React and it follows Google's Material-UI design, MUI allows a comprehensive set of components customization.
Ant Design:
It's an UI design system framework for enterprise-level products, ant design offers built-in themes and a rich set of UI components.
Bootstrap:
It's an widely-used CSS framework that provides basic components and a responsive grid system.
Pros of Prebuilt Libraries :
Rapid Development: Prebuilt libraries save a lot of time of the developers by providing pre-designed reusable components that you can quickly integrate into your project.
Standardized Design: They help ensure a consistent user experience across different screens and features.
Community Support: Many prebuilt libraries come with robust community support, providing a wealth of tutorials, plugins, and enhancements.
Cons of Prebuilt Libraries
Limited Customization: Customizing components to fit your unique design can sometimes be difficult, leading to constraints on flexibility.
Performance Overhead: Many prebuilt libraries come with extra features you may not need, which can bloat your codebase.
Tumblr media
Pros And Cons of Prebuilt Libraries
Animation-Centric Libraries: Bringing UIs to Life
In recent years, a new category of libraries has emerged, specifically focused on providing built-in animations and smooth UI transitions. These libraries not only offer pre-designed components but also emphasize adding dynamic, interactive features to web applications.
Here are some popular examples of animation-focused libraries:
Lottie
Category: Animation Integration Library
Tumblr media
Lottie:The industry standard for motion design
What it Offers: Lottie allows you to render animations created in Figma or Adobe After Effects as JSON files using the built-in plugins. These animations are then rendered natively on the web, offering high-quality motion without a heavy performance impact.
Why It’s Useful: Lottie is perfect for apps or websites requiring rich, scalable animations that are lightweight. It’s commonly used for logos, loading animations, and subtle UI effects. Unlike other component libraries, it focuses purely on bringing visual design elements from tools like Figma & After Effects into the web environment.
Accentricity UI
Category: Hybrid Component and Animation Library
What it Offers:
Accentricity UI combines traditional UI components with built-in support for smooth animations and transitions. It offers a wide range of components like buttons, forms, modals, and navigation menus, but with an added layer of predefined animations, making it easier to create interactive, dynamic interfaces.
In addition to these standard components, Accentricity UI provides responsive behaviors and subtle animation effects like hover states, fade-ins, and sliding transitions that enhance user engagement. The library's components are fully customizable, allowing developers to easily adjust animation timings, easing functions, and durations to match the look and feel of their brand, ensuring both visual appeal and performance across devices.
Why It’s Useful:
Think about it, what would be easy for a dev? Making a custom component with tons of animation which the dev has to write from scratch and polish it before the deadline or use a library, where the dev can make use of the library with the built-in support to combine the custom designed elements with smooth animations and transitions offered by the library.
It’s particularly helpful for developers who want the convenience of a prebuilt library but need polished, built-in animations to enhance user experience without writing complex animation code from scratch.
Framer Motion
Category: Animation-focused Component Library (React)
Tumblr media
Framer Motion
What it Offers:
Framer Motion is a powerful library for React that allows you to create fluid animations and micro interactions with minimal effort. It supports interactive features like drag, scroll, and spring-based animations, which makes it ideal for interactive & highly animated UIs. It also provides easy-to-use APIs for gesture-based animations and layout transitions, offering developers extensive control over complex animations while maintaining simplicity in implementation.
Why It’s Useful:
Framer Motion combines the simplicity of component libraries with the flexibility of advanced animation frameworks, making it easy to enhance user interfaces with dynamic visual effects. It’s a great choice for React developers who want to integrate animation without compromising performance or adding significant overhead. With its built-in optimizations for smooth rendering, Framer Motion ensures high-quality animations that enhance both usability and visual appeal.
Should You Use Prebuilt Animation Libraries?
The role of animations is really important in web applications to enhance the UX(user experience), by making interfaces feel more fluid and interactive makes user's remember the website due to its great experience. Since users are constantly getting used to smooth effects, micro-interaction and dynamic feedback, animations are no longer viewed as a good to have feature but are rather considered as a must have feature. Prebuilt animation libraries like Framer Motion and GSAP (GreenSock Animation Platform) simplify this process by providing powerful, flexible tools that allow developers to integrate complex animations without having to manually manage every aspect of motion or dive deep into animation theory.
Advantages of Animation-Centric Libraries
Tumblr media
Advantages of Animation-Centric Libraries
Ease of Use
Prebuilt animation libraries abstract away the complexities of coding animations from scratch. Without manually writing keyframes, easing functions, or browser-optimized transitions, developers can simply use predefined APIs to implement fluid animations. This drastically reduces development time, as many animation details are handled by the library, letting developers focus on building features and interactions rather than tweaking animations for performance or cross-browser compatibility. For example, with a few lines of code, animations can be applied to any UI element, making the development process much more efficient.
Advanced Features
Many animation libraries offer advanced features that go far beyond basic transitions like fade-ins and slide animations. These include timeline control, scroll-triggered animations, physics-based interactions, and even 3D transformations. For instance, timeline control allows developers to create synchronized sequences of animations, which can be used to create smooth, coordinated interactions across multiple elements. Scroll-based animations enhance user engagement by triggering effects as the user scrolls, perfect for parallax websites or content reveal effects. Physics-based animations, such as spring-based drag-and-drop or object bouncing, add natural, realistic movement to interactive elements, elevating the overall experience. Additionally, 3D transformations provide extensive control over how objects rotate, scale, or move in three-dimensional space, something that is cumbersome to achieve with native CSS alone.

React Native: Why Should You Use It For Your Mobile App?
Tumblr media
Introduction
There is no doubt that mobile applications are a basic need in our day-to-day life. Tons of mobile apps are being downloaded every day. Every organization requires a mobile application for its business so every app must be well-optimizer and user-friendly as well.
Therefore various frameworks are being created and used to give out the best mobile app to the customer and from all of them react native is one of them.
What is React Native?
With various frameworks and technologies available, choosing the right one can be terrible. However, when it comes to creating high-quality mobile apps, React Native has always been a first thought for mobile app developers.
In simple words, React Native is an open-source UI software Framework for creating mobile applications for Android and iOS platforms. Moreover, it allows developers to build high-quality mobile applications using a single codebase.
However, the question arises as to why React Native is the best framework for mobile applications. So, let’s begin with why mobile app developers rely more on the React Native framework.
The Advantages of React Native
The apps that are created by React Native are always of high quality and flexible towards code sharing to make it a developer-friendly framework.
Cross-Platform Compatibility One of the most significant advantages of React Native is that it’s flexible on various platforms. As it’s a cross-platform framework it provides the same level of performance as a native app for android and iOS as well. It just requires a base code and it can be operated on any OS platform, by which you don't have to hire developers for various platforms. That’s the reason why React Native is used as a hybrid application.
UI Focused React Native allows you to create a unique eye-catching UI (User-Interface) for the app. It involves components like clicks, hovers, keyboard inputs, and all to make your mobile user-friendly and easy to navigate. You can say this framework pays a lot of attention to designing UI apps.
Hot Reloading This is one of the advantages that allows the developers to view two screens at a time allowing them to inspect the live changes without reloading the entire app. Hot reloading is also known as Live reloading which improves the development process with real-time feedback.
Better Performance Compared to native apps React has plenty of components that are used for different features and functions. Therefore, it allows the developer to create mobile apps faster and more efficiently which reduces the time and work needed to develop an app.
Accessibility For every mobile app development process accessibility is the main aspect as it increases the size of your potential market. React Native has a considerably more robust accessibility API than many others. Developers can gain benefits in approving apps from this feature of React Native.
Future Of React Native
React Native has already made a name for itself in the field of developing mobile applications. Performance and stability optimization will be one of React Native's main future priorities.
To provide a seamless experience for developers and end users, the React Native team and the community are actively solving the performance issues. The bridge between JavaScript and native components is being optimised to cut down on cost and speed up rendering.
This involves enhancing navigational capabilities, enabling smoother animations, and improving support for platform-specific components.
The future possibilities for React Native are promising to continue work and a passionate user base. The developer experience is streamlined and native-like user interfaces are made possible as performance increases.

I sent that ask about makeup and skincare, and I forgot to specify that I was asking about how usual it is for people to be deeply invested in both in NYC/Seoul, not the entire countries. Lol I'm sorry. Whenever I visit one of the capitals in my country (I live in the country) there is more variety to how people present themselves but also the blanket expectation of perfect makeup and skin (and teeth, and hair) and I once heard a native person talk about how
+ big cities colonize their inhabitants through so many unspoken rules for presenting ourselves in that city. I asked you because you've lived in both NYC/Seoul, right? And both cities are bigger and as far as I perceive it, more invested in this aesthetic side of existing in public. I thought there'd be freedom in existing in a metropolis since the size renders a single person unremarkable but instead the rules made me feel inadequate and singled me out instantly. (no need to respond to these!)
oh lol that makes more sense! new york isn't the capital of the U.S. tho and i've never lived there! i lived in la for 3 years and spent most of my life in southern california. i was born in anyang and have only spent a few months at a time in or near seoul!
hm in terms of colonization and in general it's rly a classed thing. in US cities it's more complex because of the regional and cultural differences and subcultures that value different aesthetic presentations but it's all about who u want to be considered a human being by and how close u r to having the means to achieve that. the colonial system requires u to change urself and navigate the world on their rules and ur appearance is a key factor in that, it manifests in a lot of different ways depending on region and demographic. but yeah ur appearance is deeply policed by imperial forces and what u look like is a signifier for ur relationship to the ruling class. whether ur in it, working for it, aspiring toward it, or condemned by it as a subhuman object.
in seoul subcultures are growing quickly but in general trends affect everyone at the same time and ur ability to follow them and be presentable is a direct sign of ur access to wealth and more respected society. to be a respectable employee u have to look put together but undeniably lower class/blue collar jobs don't have those kinds of requirements.
in seoul when i was younger i used to stick out immediately as gyopo because i was tan and had v american hairstyles but now i don't do much with my hair so if i wear korean clothes i'm just a normal person. even if i dress rly butch no one rly cared when i regularly have ppl react to me looking gnc in the US. seoul does in general have a narrower view of what a normal korean person looks like in terms of appearance but it's mostly stuff like korean adults thinking i'm a high schooler because i don't wear makeup.

L, R, X and Z for the fandom ask!
L - “Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn't one of your faves (chars you're neutral on are fair game, as are chars you dislike).” From Fire Emblem Engage (keep in mind, I have not finished it), Hortensia does seem like she’ll have some interesting potential as a character given how she reacts to her sister going missing and, as far as she knows, dying (we the players know at this point that Ivy is alive, but she doesn’t).
R - “A pairing you ship that you don't think anyone else ships.” None, since the only rare ships I have are ones I’ve read others talk about. I used to think Lysithea/Annette (Fire Emblem: Three Houses) would be a rare ship, but I’ve seen several fanfics and quite a bit of fanart of it, so evidently I’m not the only one who sees potential in it.
X - “Top 5-10 characters who are yoUR PRECIOUS BABIES AND YOU WILL DIE DEFENDING THEM!” In no particular order, Dimitri, Felix, Byleth, Alear, and Alcryst (first three are from Three Houses, last two are from Engage. Can you tell Fire Emblem is my special interest at the moment?)
Z - “Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go (prompts optional but encouraged).” - I must give a big thank you to fan translators. They work so hard to make media without official localizations accessible to people who may lack the time or means to learn another language, especially ones vastly different from their native language. Without them, there would be so many stories rendered inaccessible to so many people by virtue of the creators, for one reason or another, deciding against its official translation into another language. If you have ever worked on a fan translation, you have helped so many people play a game, read a book, or watch a TV show or film they may not have otherwise had the chance to, and I thank you.

Flutter vs React Native 2025: Best Choice for Developers
Tumblr media
The mobile app development world is buzzing with innovation. In 2025, two frameworks still dominate the cross-platform development space - Flutter and React Native. If you're a developer, tech enthusiast, or startup founder wondering which one to pick, this article is for you.
Let’s break it down simply and help you decide the best choice between Flutter vs React Native 2025.
Flutter vs React Native 2025: A Quick Introduction
Before diving deep, let’s understand what these two frameworks are.
Flutter, backed by Google, is an open-source UI toolkit. It helps you build beautiful apps using a single codebase for Android, iOS, web, and even desktop.
React Native, supported by Meta (Facebook), is also an open-source framework that allows you to build native-like apps using JavaScript and React.
Both are strong contenders, but the real question remains: Which is the better choice in 2025?
Popularity Check: Flutter vs React Native 2025
In India and globally, Flutter has seen a steady rise, especially among startups and freelance developers. Its flexibility and beautiful UI support make it a favourite for apps that need high-end designs.
React Native, on the other hand, continues to be widely used by larger organization's and enterprises, especially those with existing JavaScript teams.
According to recent GitHub stats (as of 2025), Flutter has more contributors and faster issue resolution, which shows how active and passionate its community is.
Performance Battle: Who Runs Faster in 2025?
When it comes to raw performance, Flutter has a slight edge in 2025. Since it compiles directly to native ARM code using Dart, it gives smoother animations and faster app loads.
React Native uses a bridge between JavaScript and native code, which sometimes leads to performance hiccups, especially in high-complexity apps like gaming or AR-based apps.
That said, React Native has made major strides with the new Fabric renderer, reducing performance gaps to some extent.
Verdict: If speed and smoothness matter more to your app - like a food delivery app that loads fast even on a 3G network - Flutter is your pick.
Developer Experience: Flutter vs React Native 2025
If you love a clean and organized coding experience, Flutter offers you everything out-of-the-box - including widgets, UI tools, and built-in support.
But if you're already into JavaScript or React for web, then React Native is an easier transition.
In India, many computer science graduates already know JavaScript because it’s used heavily in frontend web development, so picking React Native becomes a smoother ride for them.
Flutter, however, is winning hearts among new developers who are starting fresh, thanks to its comprehensive documentation and growing job market.
UI/UX Design Capabilities in 2025
Let’s be honest - in today’s digital world, looks matter. Whether it’s a fitness app for urban millennials or a matrimonial app aimed at Tier-2 cities, UI/UX makes or breaks user retention.
Flutter provides pixel-perfect designs and supports Material Design and Cupertino out-of-the-box. The “what you see is what you get” approach helps developers and designers collaborate smoothly.
React Native does offer native component support, but to achieve that wow factor, you might need third-party libraries.
Verdict: For visually rich, customer-facing apps - Flutter wins the UI game in 2025.
Learning Curve in 2025: Easy or Not?
In terms of learning, React Native still has a shorter curve for web developers since it uses JavaScript, a language most developers already know.
Flutter, with Dart, might require a little extra learning effort. However, once you grasp it, things flow well due to structured coding practices.
Also, the availability of free learning platforms, YouTube tutorials, and Indian creators pushing Flutter content has made learning easier than ever.
Community and Ecosystem: Flutter vs React Native 2025
When you get stuck (and you will, at some point), community support is your best friend.
In 2025, Flutter’s community is growing faster, with global and Indian contributors sharing plugins, tutorials, and problem-solving guides. Major conferences and hackathons are seeing more Flutter participation, especially from APAC regions like India and Southeast Asia.
React Native also has a solid ecosystem and older libraries, but some of them are outdated or not maintained regularly.
Third-party Libraries and Tools
React Native still has more third-party libraries available because it’s older. But not all libraries are actively maintained. In contrast, Flutter’s libraries are newer but more reliable and better integrated with the framework.
Flutter also offers tools like Flutter Flow, which help non-coders design apps quickly - a big plus for small startups and solopreneurs.
Job Market in India and Globally in 2025
This is important - especially if you’re a fresher or someone switching careers.
In India, Flutter jobs have seen a sharp rise in the last two years, thanks to startup adoption. React Native, however, still dominates in corporate environments.
Globally, companies are hiring more Flutter developers for MVPs and startups, while React Native continues to be used in hybrid teams.
Tip: Learn both if you want to be truly future-proof.
Which One is Better for Startups in 2025?
For Indian startups working on tight deadlines and limited budgets, Flutter offers better speed, design, and flexibility. Since everything is available out-of-the-box, your app can go live faster.
React Native might require more effort on UI polish, but it integrates better with existing web codebases, which can be useful if your startup also has a React-based website.
Real-World Example: Indian Brands Using Flutter & React Native
Flutter: Used by apps like Dream11, Tata Neu, and BYJU’S for their fast, interactive experiences.
React Native: Used by Flipkart, Facebook Lite, and some parts of Zomato.
This shows both are reliable - it just depends on what your app needs most.
Final Verdict: Flutter vs React Native 2025
If you’re starting a new project in 2025, here’s the bottom line - Flutter is the better choice if you’re looking for top-notch UX/UX design, faster performance, and quick prototyping. It’s ideal for startups and projects that demand a polished look and faster time-to-market.
On the other hand, if your team already has experience with JavaScript or you're working in a corporate setup with complex app ecosystems, React Native could be a smarter option due to its larger ecosystem and ease of integration with existing tech stacks. Your choice should depend on your team’s strengths, your project’s goals, and the user experience you aim to deliver.
Flutter vs React Native 2025: What Should You Choose?
To be honest, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
If you’re a developer who loves creating beautiful UIs and wants to stay ahead in mobile app design trends - Flutter is a better bet in 2025.
If you’re someone working in a JavaScript-heavy environment or joining a team already using React - React Native is still a solid option.
Ultimately, it’s about what fits your goals, timeline, and user base.

The Future of Full-Stack Web Development: Trends, Tools, and Technologies to Watch
In the ever-evolving world of tech, few areas have seen as much rapid growth and transformation as full stack web development. What used to be a clear separation between frontend and backend has now turned into a more seamless, hybrid model, where developers are expected to juggle both ends of the spectrum. But where is this all heading?
As we look into the future of full-stack web development, it's clear that exciting changes are on the horizon — from smarter tools and frameworks to revolutionary technologies that promise to redefine how we build for the web. If you're a developer, student, or tech enthusiast, it's time to pay attention.
What is Full Stack Web Development?
Before diving into future trends, let’s briefly revisit what full stack web development really means. A full stack developer works on both:
Frontend (client-side): Everything users interact with — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and UI frameworks like React or Vue.js.
Backend (server-side): Databases, servers, APIs, and the business logic behind the scenes using technologies like Node.js, Python, Ruby, or Java.
A full stack developer is essentially a digital Swiss Army knife — versatile, adaptable, and always in demand.
Emerging Trends in Full Stack Web Development
Here’s what’s shaping the future:
1. The Rise of Jamstack
Jamstack (JavaScript, APIs, and Markup) is becoming the preferred architecture for faster, more secure, and scalable web applications. Unlike traditional stacks, Jamstack decouples the frontend from the backend, improving performance and simplifying development.
2. AI-Powered Development Tools
Artificial Intelligence is now making its way into code editors and development platforms. Think GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT. These tools assist in writing code, identifying bugs, and even generating entire functions — speeding up the full stack workflow.
Benefits:
Faster coding with AI suggestions
Error prediction and debugging assistance
Smart documentation generation
3. Serverless and Edge Computing
Forget managing traditional servers — serverless architectures and edge computing are becoming the new standard. They allow developers to deploy applications with minimal infrastructure concerns, focusing purely on code and performance.
4. Component-Based Development
Modern frontend frameworks like React, Angular, and Vue are pushing developers towards building reusable components. This modular approach is now extending into the backend too, creating consistent development patterns across the stack.
Tools to Watch in Full Stack Development
To stay relevant, developers must keep their toolkits updated. Here are some must-watch tools shaping the future:
Frontend Tools
React (with Next.js) – For server-side rendering and static generation
Svelte – Lightweight and highly efficient for reactive apps
Tailwind CSS – Utility-first CSS framework for rapid UI development
Backend Tools
Node.js – Continues to dominate with asynchronous performance
Deno – A secure runtime from Node.js’s creator
GraphQL – Replacing REST APIs with a more flexible query language
DevOps & Hosting
Vercel & Netlify – Leading platforms for seamless frontend deployment
Docker & Kubernetes – For containerization and orchestration
Firebase & Supabase – Backend-as-a-service options for fast prototyping
Key Technologies Shaping the Future
Let’s look at the bigger innovations redefining full stack web development:
WebAssembly (WASM): Bringing languages like C++ and Rust to the web browser
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs): Combining web and native app experiences
Blockchain Integration: Decentralized apps (dApps) and smart contract backends
Real-Time Web with WebSockets & MQTT: Enabling live updates and chats
The Human Side of Full Stack Development
Beyond the code and tools, the role of a full stack developer is evolving on a human level too.
Collaborative Skills: Developers must now work more closely with designers, DevOps, and data teams.
Soft Skills Matter: Communication, problem-solving, and adaptability are becoming just as crucial as technical expertise.
Lifelong Learning: With new frameworks emerging almost monthly, continuous learning is a non-negotiable part of the job.
Final Thoughts
Full stack web development is no longer just about knowing a few languages. It’s about understanding entire ecosystems, embracing new paradigms, and building applications that are fast, scalable, and user-centric.
As we look to the future, the lines between frontend and backend will continue to blur, AI will become a coding partner, and developers will be more empowered than ever before. Staying curious, adaptable, and open to learning will be the key to thriving in this dynamic field.
In summary, here’s what to watch for in full stack web development:
Greater automation through AI tools
Continued growth of Jamstack and serverless models
Wider adoption of real-time, decentralized, and modular systems
The rise of multi-disciplinary developer roles
The future is full of possibilities — and if you’re a developer today, you’re right at the center of this exciting evolution.

Building for Both Worlds: The Rise of Cross-Platform Development
Tumblr media
In the early days of smartphones, developers faced a stark choice when creating mobile applications: build separately for iOS and Android, effectively doubling development effort and cost, or choose a single platform and sacrifice potential users. This dilemma fueled the search for solutions that would allow code to be written once but deployed across multiple platforms. Today, cross-platform development has evolved from an experimental approach with significant compromises to a mainstream methodology embraced by organizations from startups to enterprises. The maturation of these technologies represents one of the most significant shifts in Mobile App Development over the past decade, changing how teams structure their work and companies allocate their resources.
The Evolution of Cross-Platform Approaches
The journey toward effective cross-platform development has passed through several distinct phases. Early solutions like PhoneGap (later Apache Cordova) wrapped web applications in native containers, offering simplicity but struggling with performance and native-feeling user experiences. Xamarin took a different approach, using C# as a common language while compiling to native code, achieving better performance but requiring platform-specific UI code. React Native marked a significant leap forward by rendering truly native UI components while maintaining a shared JavaScript codebase and hot-reloading capabilities that accelerated development cycles. Most recently, Flutter has gained tremendous momentum with its high-performance rendering engine and comprehensive widget library. Each iteration has addressed limitations of previous approaches, gradually narrowing the gap between cross-platform and native development experiences.
The Business Case for Cross-Platform Development
The most obvious advantage of cross-platform development is economic: sharing code across platforms can significantly reduce both initial development costs and ongoing maintenance expenses. Instead of maintaining separate codebases with duplicate business logic, teams can focus their efforts on a shared foundation. This efficiency is particularly valuable for startups and small businesses with limited development resources, enabling them to reach both iOS and Android users without doubling their engineering investment. Time-to-market advantages can be equally compelling—launching simultaneously on multiple platforms can accelerate user acquisition and provide competitive advantages. For enterprises managing large application portfolios, standardizing on cross-platform technologies can simplify hiring, knowledge sharing, and maintenance across multiple products.
Technical Tradeoffs and Considerations
Despite significant advancements, choosing cross-platform development still involves navigating important tradeoffs. Performance remains a key consideration, particularly for applications with demanding graphical requirements or complex interactions. While frameworks like Flutter and React Native have narrowed this gap considerably, applications requiring maximum performance or deep platform integration may still benefit from native development. Access to platform-specific features can be another limitation, though most modern frameworks offer plugin ecosystems to bridge these gaps. The Mobile App Development community continues to debate these tradeoffs, with the calculus varying based on specific project requirements, team expertise, and business priorities.
Framework Selection: Navigating the Ecosystem
The cross-platform landscape offers several mature frameworks, each with distinct architectural approaches and tradeoffs. React Native leverages JavaScript and React's component model, making it particularly accessible to web developers and offering excellent integration with web-based backends. Flutter uses Dart and a unique rendering approach that bypasses the native UI components, providing more consistent behavior across platforms but with a steeper learning curve for developers without Dart experience. Xamarin appeals to organizations with existing .NET expertise, while Ionic remains popular for applications that can succeed with a primarily web-based approach. Beyond these technical considerations, factors like community size, corporate backing, documentation quality, and long-term viability should influence framework selection for serious Mobile App Development projects.
User Experience Challenges and Solutions
Creating interfaces that feel natural on both platforms while maintaining a shared codebase presents unique challenges. iOS and Android have distinct design languages, interaction patterns, and user expectations. The most successful cross-platform applications address these differences through adaptive components that automatically implement platform-appropriate behaviors rather than forcing a single design language across both environments. This might include using native navigation patterns, respecting platform-specific gestures, and adjusting visual elements like button styles and typography to match platform conventions. Modern frameworks facilitate this approach through platform detection capabilities and component libraries that implement platform-specific behaviors automatically, allowing developers to create experiences that respect platform differences without maintaining entirely separate UI implementations.
Integration with Native Capabilities
While cross-platform frameworks excel at creating standard user interfaces and implementing business logic, many applications require access to device capabilities or platform services that fall outside cross-platform abstractions. Modern Mobile App Development frameworks address this challenge through robust plugin ecosystems that wrap native functionality in cross-platform interfaces. For React Native, this might involve creating native modules in Java/Kotlin or Objective-C/Swift that expose functionality to JavaScript. Flutter offers platform channels for similar purposes, while providing an increasingly comprehensive set of pre-built integrations for common needs. For truly custom requirements, most frameworks allow embedding native views within cross-platform interfaces, enabling hybrid approaches that leverage cross-platform efficiency for most of the application while implementing performance-critical or platform-specific features natively.
Testing Strategies for Multiple Platforms
Ensuring quality across multiple platforms introduces additional complexity to the testing process. While shared business logic can be tested once, interface behavior and platform integrations require platform-specific verification. Effective Mobile App Development teams address this challenge through layered testing strategies: unit tests verify business logic independent of platform concerns, integration tests check communication between application layers, and automated UI tests verify platform-specific behavior. Cloud testing services that provide access to a wide range of real devices have become essential tools for cross-platform teams, enabling efficient testing across the fragmented device landscape. The most sophisticated organizations complement automated testing with platform-specific manual testing focused on areas where automated verification is challenging or where platform differences are most likely to create issues.
Future Directions: Web and Beyond
As web technologies continue advancing through progressive web apps (PWAs) and improved browser capabilities, the boundaries between native, cross-platform, and web applications continue blurring. Some organizations now pursue "tri-platform" strategies that share code not just between iOS and Android but also with web applications. Technologies like React Native Web and Flutter Web support this approach, though with varying degrees of maturity. Looking further ahead, cross-platform frameworks are beginning to extend beyond mobile to support desktop platforms and emerging form factors like wearables and foldable devices. This evolution toward truly universal application development—write once, run anywhere—represents the logical extension of the cross-platform vision, potentially transforming not just Mobile App Development but application development as a whole.
The rise of cross-platform development reflects a fundamental shift in how we think about mobile applications—from platform-specific products to universal experiences that happen to be delivered through platform-specific channels. While no single approach yet offers a perfect solution for every use case, the rapid maturation of cross-platform technologies has dramatically changed the calculus for organizations building mobile experiences. By reducing duplicate effort, accelerating development cycles, and enabling smaller teams to reach broader audiences, these frameworks have democratized Mobile App Development in ways that would have been difficult to imagine when smartphones first emerged. As these technologies continue evolving toward greater performance, better platform integration, and broader platform support, the original promise of "write once, run anywhere" moves closer to reality with each passing year.
