I forgot how much I liked this book. Kaye's pov was so compelling and the pacing was just right. Roiben was a big teddy bear with a reputation.
I'll skip Valiant and read Ironside next.
Second Stormlight Archive’s novella. Unexpectedly creepy for a Stormlight book. This novella follows Rysn and Lopen. Chiri-Chiri is ❤️. Cord is there and awesome. The Lopen does his thing. Set between Oathbringer and Rhythm of War. Worth reading for substantial world building and lore. So much lore.
“The others called him silly, but he thought the different colors tasted different.”
I have clearly fallen deep into the Sanderson universe to the point where this is turning into more of a Cosmere reading tracker than a general reading log. Might take a Sanderson break after this. Or might just dive straight into Mistborn. Haven’t decided yet.
I read these as they came out when I was in my teens, but it's been long enough that I decided to do a reread. The story holds up. I still like the heist movie style hijinks, and the attitude the characters serve. I also like the blend of magic and tech the fairies have in this world. I still find Holly to be my favorite character, but see the charm in Artemis' sassy child self more these days. I found him pretentious as a kid. This series is a good clean Fae storyline, and is quite enjoyable. They are written for YA readers, so the story is kept to a PG-13 level of violence.
I wanted to do something fun and simple for my first steam after being gone for almost a month, so I combined two of my favorite things: books and cats! I loved the resulting sketches so much that I turned them into full pieces. Thank you to my Twitch viewers for helping me come up with cat puns for the books!
Smol snippet of Jon Hamm reading the Good Omens excerpt at the The Art of Elysium’s 2024 Heaven Gala, 6.1.2024 :) ❤ (I hope we will get it all one day! :) <3)
Jon: From a little story called Good Omens, The Nice and Accurate prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, by Terry Pratchett and our own Neil Gaiman.
The angel waved a hand expansively, if a little unsteadily. "Loads of buggerall, dear boy."
"But it gets there anyway," Crowley persevered.
"How?"
"It doesn't matter!"
"It could use a space ship," said the angel.
Crowley subsided a bit. "Yeah," he said. "If you like. Anyway, this bird—"
"Only it is the end of the universe we're talking about," said Aziraphale. "So it'd have to be one of those space ships where your descendants are the ones who get out at the other end. You have to tell your descendants, you say, When you get to the Mountain, you've got to—" He hesitated.
“One thing,” she whispered, her lips by his jaw. She didn’t want anyone to overhear. “Before I forget.”
“What’s that?”
“Stop writing about me.”
[...] In a voice both raspy and low, and so, so familiar, Shane said, “You first.”
And done reading. I avoid rating books outside of liking them - or not - and would re-read (or not).
I liked this one more than TSH, so pleasantly surprised. I will re-read certain scenes in this book with Jude, Madoc and Tiernan.
Chapter 20 (cont.)
Elaine dies too and Oak complaining
The Roach <3 Roiben and Kaye mini-cameo <3
Randalin, you bitch! Cardan would not be ok with dying by Randalin’s hand. Unacceptable, really
Fala delivered the best line of his existence
Oak goes kill-mode-activated. Jude blames Madoc. Leander got the Madoc’s clan baptism
Cardan has long forgotten about not being a killer and wants to kill anyone sus. I can’t blame him
I’m confused about the POV, ngl
Chapter 21/22
Why would Dain have a crest beside the Greenbriar crest?
Honey-mothing your lover. Tsk, tsk. Ha, he plans to kill her, a family tradition at this stage
“something else to lose”, this boy spent time with Vivi
MOTHER MARROW, I feel betrayed
Bex is inside a nut. This would be a lovely tale
Wait. Oak, child, you still have the usual glamour right? Why wouldn’t that be enough to get Bex to behave?
Bogdana fight time, yes?
Chapter 23
Jude, Jude, Jude <3
Jude is duelling another family member, Leander better watch out
This is probably the only chapter that brings me back to the Elfhame of the previous trilogy
Chapter 24
The love spiel was nice but felt off at the same time
Wings? Why?
Madoc had a realization moment. Can he be trusted now? Probably not looking at the chess moves
T&H made up <3<3<3
Wren went to see her unfamily
So Taryn believed killing her abusive husband was the worst thing she did? Really?
Everyone is very cool with Garrett being stuck in a tree
Cardan being awesome
Oak can abdicate but we need a few months for a backup plan, maybe more. I was like “Sir, you know it can take long to conceive?”. Then Cardan talked about going to watch the faerie edition of The Selection
Jude has massive balls to go back into the undersea
Chapter 25
They’ve spent like 3 months together tops, no need to marry anytime soon
“King of someplace”, mf forgot about his promise to the Thistlewitch. Promise that Wren can no longer break either
This series is absolutely lovely. A quiet comfort all its own. Read this book in one sitting in a quiet Sunday when I needed a break. Picks up where the first leaves off and is just as good as Psalm for the Wild-Built. This book is like a warm, consistent, kind friend.
“Welcome comfort, they reminded themself, rubbing the little pectin-printed bear with their thumb. Without it, you cannot stay strong.”
