Beginnings?

I struggle to read research papers, articles and text. I go in with the mindset that I’m not well versed with concepts and this restricts me from understanding or trying to understand things. After a long internal debate and a group discussion with a few mates, I’m trying my best to make peace with not knowing everything.

It IS OKAY if I don’t know things

I don’t have to connect all the things always

All my mental boxes and folders need to be filled right away

Once I’m done with the earth-shattering amount of things I have to do this week, I’m going to get ready to do some serious reading, and well write about it. I won’t wait for new years to get started. Resolutions are only bound to be forgotten. I also splurged and bought few books. I think I’ll do a combination to academic and non academic reading

I’ve lost the comfort of reading everyday. There used to be a time, not long ago but just a couple of years ago when I couldn’t go a day without reading, without devouring chapters at a time. I don't know what changed but I’m here to get that joy back.

I’ll probably keep aside time to read after dinner every night.

We are 13 days into the new year, and I’m at 3 (and a half) books finished. I have to admit, I’m proud of that accomplishment! Sometimes, the new year starts rough for reading for me, but with everything going on in the world, I often feel pulled to these books as a way to process and escape some of these situations and feelings. That would be why my current read is Calm the F*ck Down by Sarah Knight. Who doesn’t love HARRY POTTER?? When I see myself in the future, I see a women with a bookshelf full of art history books which I’ve read haha. (keyword: read) I see myself confidently going to art museums and knowing about certain artists and eras. Present day, I know a certain amount about art history but I want to know more. I want to know about different artists and époques and how their environment effected them. Super nerdy I know, but interesting. I mean look at Lautrec his life was a shocker. 

Ever since high school and university, I’ve always found it difficult to read of the computer. Something about it just doesn’t fly. Like, I cant concentrate on the screen for long periods of times, like if I had to read twenty pages of a textbooks it gets to the point where my eyes don’t really want my brain to understand what I’m reading. I just have this need to be able to highlight or like bend the book or fold the pages.

I’m going to blame it on the fact that I’m a nineties kid, like only nineties kids would understand. I was a 94, so I mean I was barley there during the nineties just you know growing. But I was a smart baby I felt the nineties shaping me. Anyways this post below really describes how I feel and I’M sure a lot of other people do and contributes to the fact I cant read from the computer screen. (I don’t think it was this post, but this is the closest I could find)

So on that note, another thing I never do is return library books on time. A good lesson from that sentence is don’t lend me anything. Unless you physically come to my house to get it back, I just acknowledge that I wont do a good job. Anyways I returned all my library books much later than I should have. After I returned my books I decided it was a good time to zone out and ended up thinking about becoming the woman I wanted to be, someone knowledgable. I went to the used book store and bought the books below. Boy oh boy they are gorgeous. I plan on reading them all. (Key word: all)

Honestly I probably save money by doing this, if IM going to end up paying late fees I might as well skip that and just go buy a used book to have it forever. Those of you thinking, steph just return the books on time, well stranger old habits die hard (Liz talking) and might as well just buy these books.

Apparently when you read your supposed to read with a purpose, and hold a question in mind because then you have incentive and that way you never forget. Like peoples names, you don’t remember because you don’t care (shout out Asia) which is the truth, hard but true.

I guess after each book Ill make a post about things I’ve learned to really cement it into my head and give it a purpose to write it down highlight the cool parts. It also makes me feel like I can relate, here are these artists that they were meant to do at a young age and it makes me feel not so alone and weird.

I’ll be sure to start updating about the books I read here and hopefully share my new found knowledge. Also on a tagent Ive fallen in love with Shawn Mendes. Am I the only one? His mtv unplugged and lost in japan<33333. Go listen to it, my inner 16 year old is ccccvrying. You know that meme some people make art and some people are art, He’s both and he stole my heart, and probably for karma for never returning antyhinng.
