Pokemon au lore bs

So in my Pokémon au, there are two sets of main characters, each set with their own plot going parallel to the other’s plot. It’s complex and my next big project (god willing.)

So! Here’s the two sets and their signature Pokémon. :) 

So the first team is Bench Trio!

We’ve got Tommy, our favorite “main character” starting out on his journey to defeat the Pokémon League. Specifically Dream. He wants to beat Champion Dream. Tommy’s starter is a Rufflet, who is a bit of a little shit (just like him) and likes to try and fight random people (just like him.)

And then we’ve got his buddy Tubbo, the gym leader of the city of Snowchester. He’s a Normal-type specialist “on vacation”. Definitely isn’t ignoring his duty as gym leader to fuck around with his friends. He left most of his Pokémon at the gym, but he kept his Dubwool and has managed to get emotionally attached to a Skiddo on his journey.

And then there’s Ranboo! He’s technically Elite Four Member Technoblade’s intern, but he’s going around the region with hopes of becoming a professor, actually. He’s kinda nervous about battling a lot of the time. Not that he’s bad at it, but because he gets so caught up in the process of making decisions that he usually ends up telling his Espurr to go fucking apeshit.

And then there’s the other set of main characters, the Fiancés! Only uh. They’re not fiancés. They’re Investigative Reporter Karl and two dudes he met at the airport.

Karl is first. He’s a reporter coming in from Unova to check out rumors of an emerging evil team (because this is Pokémon.) He’s also constantly getting bullied around by Celebi, the time travel Pokémon. He’s not one for battling, so he just has two little shits he takes with him for emotional support (and to make his job of breaking and entering into places much easier.) He’s got a Goomy for the express purpose of pretending to be weaker than he is, and a Spoink for psychic abilities.

Then there’s Sapnap. He’s an Elite Four member, actually, but he’s designated himself to be Karl’s tour guide and bodyguard. (They got emotionally attached to each other very quickly.) He, Dream, and George all went on their first Pokémon journey together, and now they’re all at the top of the Pokémon league… for better or for worse. His current partner is a Pancham he found hiding from a Magikarp; they have matching bandanas. But he also his his original starter, Blaziken, with him as an ace up his sleeve.

And then there’s Quackity, a con artist that tried stealing Karl’s wallet and got his ass chased down by a very angry Spoink. He doesn’t really battle. Really. He’s just a guy, really. His only Pokémon is Ducklett. Really. He definitely doesn’t have an overpowered little Weavile with him as well for special occasions. He definitely doesn’t have a full team of Ice types back at the Las Nevadas gym waiting for him to return.

Dream SMP Designs: Techno

This design probably took the longest out of the three, and I’m incredibly proud of it!! Techno has the most intimidating vibes out of everyone on the SMP (besides Schlatt) and I seriously respect him for that. 

Here’s his design, this took me about 8 hours of work total, with long breaks inbetween. Including breaks, this was a 2-3 day process! I had fun the whole time, don’t worry.

Something took me during this process, some sort of ghost or otherworldy spirit. Because I had to start from scratch, I began with the simple idea collage and then sketched my ideas in my sketchbook. I didn’t want to make techno part pig/boar like other artists, I decided to go in the mask direction. I’m happy with it either way, so I’m not complaining.

I wanted 3 specific thing, flowy shirt, king’s cape, and crown. The style I was going for was kind of like a fantasy ARPG villain.

I had a really solid idea, and once I had it on paper I was able to draw it all out!! Once I was finished sketching I blotched out the colors. The difference between techno and dream was that Techno’s colors were way more open. I was going in with very complex shapes and no clue how to color them. Originally, I wanted to have him wear a chest plate that was half diamond, half netherite. But it just didn’t look good, so I scrapped it. Once I settled, I finalized the colors, made the background transparent, added lighting, and I was done.

of course I changed some things around, but I’m the most proud of this design out of the three. I think techno looks cool as hell. On another note, I’m taking this minecraft stuff way too seriously lmao

Here's how I read Technoblade. Techno is a guy who's first instinct is violence, and whose use of violence is very very effective. However, he still has ideals he wants to find the best way to move forward on.

He understands violence, he respects violence (and the capacity for violence), and is inclined to resolve things in a violent way. And Yet, he acknowledges violence has not been a good enough way to further his ideals, so he changed strategies. He wanted to get people to see that governments would only make everyone miserable (And He Was Right, Tubbo Wouldn't Have Exiled Tommy Had He Not Been President, because of the responsibilities he had over what he personally believed was good, Tubbo resolved the issue enough in his eyes by going for reformation, while Dream forced his hand. sooner or later a situation like that was Going to arise.) so he tried fighting beside them, and then he tried to force them to see Via violence as a last resort, fueled by hurt and frustration. It wasn't a cold rational decision, and it's one he sees as a failure. However, he still enjoyed blowing stuff up.

Then, against all his instincts, but following his Ideals (and trying a different strategy) he attempted pacifism, staying out of it, living in the snow. It didn't go well (butcher army my beloveds), but at every turn, until he had no other choice, he stuck to his ideal, this new way of going about it, he prepared a defense for a trial that never came and only in the end did he resort to violence. And then, on the way back, seeing pacifism fail, he picked a new strategy, total reciprocity.

Doomsday for Technoblade wasn't really about the moral corruption government poses, it was about repaying tenfold the injustice he was served. You can call it whatever you'd like, and he wasn't Right to do it, it didn't really help to further his ideals, he still came out as the bad guy. However, it's any other revenge plot but on a Technoblade scale. He allowed himself to be used by Dream, and Philza had his own motivation, because This Wasn't A Moral Battle For Technoblade, It Was An Act Of Revenge. And in the incredible violence only that specific team could bring, he had a lot of fun.

And BECAUSE it wasn't a moral victory, it wasn't any way to further his goals, he forms the Syndicate. He acknowledges that he's a bad example of what he's attempting, he's fucking SHITTY at his one goal (getting others to see the inherent flaws in a corruptible system that gives some people the capacity to decide over others regarding their own freedom), and yet he keeps trying. And Yet. He is the person in the Syndicate with the most power of decision. Philza just doesn't really chime in on decisions and the rest of them are rightfully scared of him. Once more, he has dominated with violence, driving himself at the top of the hierarchy by pure force, what a hypocrite. Except, by the design of the Syndicate, he's clarified time and again none of them have to do anything they don't want to (even attend meetings!), and he makes an active effort to listen to every member's opinions (to the point where Niki was surprised by how much she was being listened to).

When they back Ranboo into a corner, Technoblade is leading the charge, purely as a first reaction to someone potentially hostile learning of the Syndicate's actions. His first reaction is, once again, violence, the threat of violence in this case (which against Ranboo, certified coward, is very effective). What's also notable is that after that he has a moment of oh shit, he probably feels obligated to do this, I need to clarify that he doesn't have to do anything, that's what I Stand For.

Techno enjoys violence, he has fun threatening people, and he still strives for a world where people won't have to fight meaningless wars. He's a complex character and this duality expresses itself for example in how Phil hides Ranboo's marriage and Michael from Technoblade. Technoblade IS a ticking timebomb of violence, and when taken off guard and put on the spot he WILL blow, Schlatt abused this in his time, but he doesn't WANT meaningless carnage (despite how much fun it can be), he wants a better world, and he's trying to get to it.

I'm curious to see how he reacts to Eret now that she's back, considering they basically agree on most things, and they hold basically the same position (power over others while still wanting to bring better circumstances to them), except Eret has the soft power of being king and being friends with people (Tommy refers to her as the real king, for example) and Techno has the hard power of Raw Military Might™.

Disability and Pain on the DSMP

DSMP is one of the best fandoms I have been in for sheer number of disability headcanons (Tubbo hard of hearing after execution, Jack Manifold chronic pain after lava/hell) and straight up canon disabilities (Quackity’s injured eye, Philza’s burned wings, Wilbur’s mental health, Ponk’s limb loss, Ranboo’s memory). That is super cool! 

And with writing disability comes a specific narrative trap that I have seen people falling into that I would like to mention. 

Disability is not an angst prompt, it is how people live their lives, and their lives are worth living, even with the disability. 

Is it difficult to live with a disability? Absolutely. Does a person go through grief once they lean they are disabled, if they have an acquired or late-manifesting disability? Probably. It is difficult to find out that you thought your life was going to be one way and now it is a different way. It sucks to learn that the way everyone else’s lives is not going to work for you. Pain is hard to live with. Disabilities in a world that is not designed for them are often annoying. I am not saying that is all easy sailing and joy. But disability is also just a way to live your life, same as gender and class and race and sexuality, and treating it exclusively as a source of pain gets old really fast. 

Disability is not tragedy. 

Disability is not a narrative punishment. (Holy shit you guys, what.)

Disability is not a whump prompt. 

Disability is something painful, and it is also something creative, and it is often funny, and it sucks, and it’s complex. 

It’s a way that a lot of people who read your stuff live their lives. So let’s be careful about how often you’re in my notes talking about how Phil’s wing injury is a “gut punch”, eh?

I am seeing people mad about how Techno didn’t ask further about Tommy, or how the whole of his description of Tubbo was “used to be a dictator, now has a commune and nukes. Or he’s a masterful liar, could be a really great liar”. And I think that’s connected to what he said about Ranboo, which was nothing. Dream was fishing for information, and Techno was giving him non-answers.

It would have been so easy to say “Tubbo’s married now”, and would have fit the joking tone of the convo, and it would have let Dream know about possible points of leverage on Tubbo. Everything Techno said instead painted Tubbo as a dangerous man, which is great information to give Dream, the man who wants Tubbo dead.

Techno learned about Ranboo visiting pretty often, and he didn’t press for info on that, which would have made it clear that he was entangled with Ranboo. Techno was asked who was feeding his pets, and he said “they feed themselves” rather than the super obvious answers of Phil (or Ranboo, or Wilbur if we want to expand it out to other people in that arctic village).

As far as Dream got out of that conversation, he still doesn’t know who Techno’s unnamed “friends” are, and the people he cares about enough to ask about are dangerous and deadly on the outside.

So yeah, as much as it would have been satisfying to see Techno shake Dream down for information (especially on Tommy), I think what we saw instead was Master Manipulator (a little rusty from disuse) run into High Level Paranoia. 

I’m not saying this is a huge sign of Techno defending the young ones of the server. In character, I’m not even sure if this was a calculated plan. Could just be that Techno was pulling a “i will give you info when you pay me cold hard cash, you can’t talk me around” on him. But the fact remains that Techno didn’t give him anything, which is probably safer for bench trio.

tl:dr Techno not defending Tubbo or Tommy is quite possibly a good thing, cause it gives Dream less to work with. Or he just doesn’t care about anyone enough to mention them. Pick your poison.

What I think is going on if any of the DSMP members win the Elytra.

Tubbo: Built those wings himself. Healing arc. 

Tommy: Avian, his wings finally came in, they are little chicken wings. 

Ranboo: Teleporting unlocked more end heritage, they are wings like the ender dragon. 

Eryn Cyberonix: That accident that fucked up his arm also fucked up his wings, when he has elytra he simply had a good night’s rest and they came back.

Charlie Slimecicle: Slime wings.

Fundy: Shapeshifter.

Purpled: Alien tech he finally repaired. 

Quackity: Avian, he just stopped binding down his duck wings.

Wilbur Soot: translucent avian wings that belong to a ghost, he insists he doesn’t have them and that he’s well and healthy and normal now. 

FoolishGamers: Mans is a god. Of course he has wings. They are somehow smooth like shark skin. 

Eret: They won wings back from a cult in the past, and forgot. Just re-discovered them. The wings are an eldritch summoned force that binds to your back, but like in a friendly way.

Awesamdude: Built those wings himself. The satisfaction of creation somehow does not overcome the guilt of what he has done and is doing and was prepared to do. His hands shake at night.

Captain Puffy: A divine boon from the time she saved a god. (It was a swindle but the god doesn’t know yet.)

Antfrost: They may or may not be demon wings and he may or may not be making an arrangement with a high cost to bring someone back and it may or may not be corrupting him. It’s fine. Look, cat!

Hannahxxrose: Plant-based wings, they were a gift from the forest as she healed. 

Ponk: The Doctor has been doing Inadvisable Science. 

Punz: High tech wings were his payment for a job well done. Don’t ask questions. 

Skeppy: He stole them from Bad in an epic troll. 

BadBoyHalo: He’s literally a demon, he’s always had demon wings, he just thought it was rude to use them before. Are we really sure it’s not rude? It’s okay now?

GeorgeNotFound: idk he woke up and they were there. maybe the god who’s been following him gave them. he doesn’t care. they look like dragonfly wings.

Sapnap: Fire phoenix wings. 

Karl Jacobs: he doesn’t remember where he got them but they’ve grown into his back and he can’t take them off. when pulled on something screams with his voice but it doesn’t come from his throat (but his throat bleeds anyway). they’re beautiful when they catch the light. 

TinaKitten: Adorable wings that match her ears (they have ribbons) that she shanked a man for. 

Dream: End dragon wings, but he stole them when he closed the End. They’ve been spliced on, he has to take anti-rejection meds. 

Connor: They are video game elytra that he won in a contest on the 30th of October 2021. He’s going to take them to hang out with his other friends. 

Niki: Fire phoenix wings, but specifically with a healing property. 

Jack Manifold: Went to Hell. Came back wrong. When you look at him out of the corner of your eye you see a monstrous misshapen creature of rage and spite, wings to pull it higher, and when you look at him straight on you see Jack. 

Hbomb: You know the anime girl backpack that looks like little crossed wings? That. 

Michael McChill: Paranoid Radio Host takes another step in the tradition of Cecil Baldwin and has wings of purple light.

Technoblade: Dragon wings, but specifically a dragon that’s also a wither. They sink into his back like cold fingers. 

Philza: Avian, his wings finally healed.

{Multifandom Anon Reporter Ask.} Who do you think is gonna be on Sam's Secret Vault redstone? With the complexity of the prison built for it must hold someone very big a bigger threat to the Dream SMP could it be Technoblade? Philza? Tubbo? Ghostbur? Tommy? Honestly the anticipation and excitement have filled my veins within and tomorrow is gonna be the finale day of Exile Tommy? Was the child's time have met an end to the Grim's reaper hands? Was this finally the end we know for SMP Tommyinit?!

I was literally just thinking about this! Can you read my thoughts, anon? Cuz every time I’m thinking about something, you ask that same thing! Haha

I think Sam’s prison is for Tommy

Think about the possible angst here, Dream shows up one day and tells Tommy that his exile is over, Tommy is ecstatic (but also a little wary, did you see how hesitant he was to go to L’manberg with Drista?) but he happily packs up all of his things and follows Dream. Dream says that he wants Tommy to experience really seeing L’manberg again, seeing it bit by bit and not all at once, so they’re taking the boat again, they’re not going through the portal. But at some point, Dream makes a wrong turn, and Tommy doesn’t notice because he’s so busy talking about all the things he’s gonna do once he gets home. Then suddenly they can see the massive, ominous building that is Sam’s prison, and Tommy starts to realize what’s happening, he wasn’t in exile, he was simply in a sort of waiting room while his actual exile was being built. And Dream has recruited a bunch of guards, probably Sam, Punz, Ponk, maybe Purpled? and they’re all fully suited up, bows and swords out so Tommy has no chance if he tries to run.

This could also be why Dream and Sam designed the prison to be absolutely inescapable. Because it wouldn’t just be Tommy trying to escape, though he alone would definitely give some of the best redstone builders a run for their money, but it’d be L’manberg trying to break him out from the outside as well. Because for some reason, I don’t think that anyone in L’manberg knows what Dream’s planning with the prison, and once they find out that it’s for Tommy, they’re gonna be pissed. (Or maybe just one person knows? Maybe there’s a sympathizer on the inside? Who would it be? My gut says Quackity, he only switched from Schlatt’s side at the last minute, maybe he never really wanted to, maybe he did it out of self-preservation, he knew what was coming for Schlatt and he didn’t want the same fate)

This could also be why the prison has so many cells, as Sam revealed to Ranboo in his stream last night. A cell for each of Tommy’s friends, a cell for every person who would try to break him out. If they’re caught, they get tossed in right along with him.
