Rebecca L’Bahy is a poet, writer, and teacher originally from the metro-Boston area. Her poetry has been published in various literary journals including Leon Literary Review, Mom, Egg Review, and Halfway Down the Stairs. She holds degrees from Oberlin College (B.A. history) and Emerson College (MFA). Among her many jobs she has been an office assistant, paralegal, union organizer, reporter, bookseller, shoe model, gymnastics coach, and home daycare provider. She writes out of her life as a suburban mother, a working woman, a Jew, a family member, someone engaged with the world around her. I love, love, love this series. I haven’t read a lot of graphic novels/comic books, so this is a relatively new format for me. I like the friendships in this series, the supernatural elements, the camp leaders and counselors, and the way the story is progressing to show more of a mystery and the characters’ histories, both separately and together.

I got the first six volumes from the public library and will definitely be reading more of them as they become available.

WHY WOULD A HUFFLEPUFF READ THIS?

Not all five of the main characters are Hufflepuffs themselves, but as a unit, they embody some ideals, such as loyalty, teamwork, and friendship. For example, in Volume 5, April uses a camp motto, “Friendship to the max,” to get the others to do what she wants. She honestly thinks it’s the best thing to do, but it messes up everyone else’s plans. Once she realizes her mistake, she does her best to make it up to them.
