Imagine you’re Jonas Maccabees. You get an invitation to two meetings at a nightclub with all the other streetlords in the city, the only stipulations being that you can’t bring weapons or guests. You’re curious, so you go.
Your nemesis is there, showing excessive PDA with the nightclub owner. A new streetlord named Séance is there, and you already know her identity. The Dove Lord is there at the second meeting, and so is the leader of the Orphan Guild and his salesman, because apparently they get to break the rules. (For the first meeting, the Doves’ second had been there instead and the Orphan Guild leader’s girlfriend was there, and you suspect she killed your sister and is impersonating the Dove Lord, so this adds up. The second meeting is more important though.)
Séance suggests a stock market for the gangs and starts threatening the most important, dangerous people in the room to take her seriously. She pulls it off, so she has your respect. Everyone likes the idea except for Ivory—who, again, you think is actually Rebecca and murdered your sister. If this theory is correct, then Bryce is her boyfriend, and yet he goes against what Ivory says (not a smart move in any instance) and pledges to join the stock market.
Ivory is furious, and Harvey starts grinning like an idiot, confirming your theories bc if she was just the leader of the Doves, why would he care? Ivory stands up and walks away, and then Séance (in a real power move) just up and leaves, thanking everyone for their time. The audacity. Your nemesis follows, which, good riddance, he’s a mess.
Leaving you—Jonas Maccabees, Scavenger, the Scar Lord—alone with Bryce Balfour and Harvey Gabbiano, who are filled with simmering resentment and wildly inappropriate happiness, respectively. Two people who are almost certainly colleagues with the woman who murdered your sister. Two people who are absolute disasters and also just fucking ridiculous, and you are now stuck in a meeting room in a nightclub with them because everyone else at this Important Gang Meeting just bailed.
Pour one out for Jonas y’all

i just re-read worm after a few years and am thinking about getting into the fandom- can you recommend some fics and people to look into? good or especially bad, either way- i just dont want to be out of the loop ;)
You came to the right place!!! I have read far too much wormfic to ever be healthy again.
I would not intentionally recommend very bad fics to a fandom newbie because that just makes for an unhappy experience—you'll have plenty of opportunities to find the dregs if you just look at any of the most common recs on /r/wormfanfic. I have a list of some of my own favourites, but my tastes are particular and often clownish. Of them, these are the ones I'd rec to someone new. In fact, many of these I read before joining the community myself and still hold up. Loaf (or, the fic that sucked me into the fandom): Post-Gold Morning, Contessa tries to bake a loaf of bread without using her power. I read this, immediately had to make fanart, and then didn't stop. Case: Sequel to Loaf. Lisa teams up with a woman who isn't the Simurgh to form a private detective agency. Tabloid: Adventures of a PRT photographer slash cape paparazzo. Character study and lots of cape worldbuilding. It has art! Cauldron Quest™: Contessa in a quest, what will she do? Typewriter: Lisa can read between the lines (of Worm). It's Cold Out There Every Day: Vista is caught in a timeloop. Amy's Octet: A series of quizzes about Amy Dallon. Forward: Taylor tries to move on after Gold Morning. The Great Escape: The Birdcage opened and Eidolon is tasked with catching the escapees. A Certain Logic of Violence and Uncertainty: Marquis and Amy in the Birdcage, what will they do? Shinka: Lung character study. Looking Forwards: The reason I started shipping Contessa/Alexandria. Cherry on Top: Cherish character study. Valleyxandria: A day in the life of Rebecca Costa-Brown, a California girl. Dragon Unbound: Dragon unchained! Agent of Cauldron: A girl kills Eidolon, gets inducted into Cauldron. Very expansive worldbuilding. Ghostlight: Pretender can hear Alexandria's voice while piloting her body. Janus: Victoria in Taylor's body, what will she do? Hatching a Heist: A woman pretends to be a cape in order to rob her former employer. Steel Owl: Parahumans Online can be such a lonely place. I Need Some Space: Taylor's new stepsister is Vista. The Artist Formerly Known As Bonesaw: Two years after Gold Morning, Riley wakes up and she's still in the Slaughterhouse Nine. Authors to look into: Chartic, k800, maroon_sweater, henghost (but you HAVE to check the tags first), Fox_in_a_Box (this is for Number Stans), Redcoat_Officer, Harbin, TheSleepingKnight, Omega_93, Dusky

What's some headcanons you have for each of the sides? Or what do you think their favorite musicals are? :)
I don't really have headcanons anymore, but I have a lot of aus based on/round sanders sides, the one I'm currently hyperfixated on is Rebecca's Crazy Sides which is the show but I'm Thomas and the sides personalities are changed to fit mine, if anyone wants to know more about then send an ask (totally not desperate to rant about it lol)
to answer your other question: what I think the sides favorite musicals would be
Virgil: Be More Chill, cuz it's about a guy who has a lot of insecurities but learns to accept himself for who he is at the end, I think Virgil would resonate with that at least a little
Logan: Dear Evan Hansen (?), I don't know a lot of musicals so my choices are limited and I probably should've researched about other musicals before choosing one for Logan but I think he'd like Dear Evan Hansen, idk why but I have a feeling he would
Patton: Mamma Mia, I feel like he'd like this one cuz it's a classic and my mom likes it so ofc Patton would too lol
Roman: Six, idk just has Roman vibes to me lol
Janus: Mean Girls or Heathers, I can't decide cuz both scream Janus to me but I think he'd prefer Mean Girls cuz I do lol
Remus: Beetlejuice, do I need to say more? lol
feel free to tell me what you guys think their favorite musicals would be if you disagree, also definitely ask me about my au I will not and cannot stop talking about it, I'm like a gremlin that needs to get the chaos out of their system, pls!

A "zeal for the library sciences": Blinky the librarian in "Trollhunters"
Tumblr media
Blinky introduces viewers to the story at the beginning of the film, Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, released on July 21, and the library is never shown again in the film.
In the Tales of Arcadia trilogy, [1] there is one character who shines through: Blinkous "Blinky" Galadrigal (voiced by Kelsey Grammer), not only because of his role in the series, but because he is a librarian! This is shown briefly in the film referenced above, Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, but even more so in the Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia series, the first part of the aforementioned trilogy. [2]
The episode "Party Monster" is the first time we see this library. In the episode, Blinky (then in human form) brings Jim and Toby to a library to find a solution, with the books, scrolls, and tomes being all he has left of his brother. Within hours upon hours of research, they find what they are looking for. AAARRGGHH!!! is in the library secretly reading about his condition, he makes an excuse and leaves. They continue to read books in the library. Blinky says his "zeal for the library sciences" is waning as he is falling asleep, hilariously. Toby becomes a living archive, or so he says, of all troll history. As Blinky's fandom page puts it, "Blinky is one of the smartest trolls in Trollmarket...and even owns his own library organized with books created by himself and Dictatious."
Additionally, in the episode "Escape from the Darklands", Blinky, tries to figure out a plan to save Jim, with Toby and Claire worried about him, so they look through the library for something to help. Also, in the episode "Skullhunter", Blinky looks at books to find out a cure for AAARRRGGHH!!! Toby helps Blinky in this endeavor, telling him about something called the Janus Order, leading to a quest. Furthermore, in the episode "Mistrial and Error"; Toby is picked by Jim to represent him in front of the tribunal and Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! help Toby get the books he needs. Most extreme of all is the episode "Hiss Hiss, Bang Bang", when Blinky starts burning all the books in his library which contain the name of his "traitorous brother" but not the other books, almost like what Francis Censordoll did, but for more petty reasons. Jim and his friends stop him, luckily. [3]
There is more to say about Blinky as a librarian that some episode description which I took from my page listing Western animated shows with libraries (and librarians). I would say he has qualities of the "information provider," which are librarians who either provide information to a character, note the importance of rules, and/or are "identified by occupational tasks." He falls into the first part of this, in terms of providing information. However, he is more than that, he has "enough screen time to allow viewers to witness more fully rounded characterizations and glimpses of a personal life," making him atypical, to use the words of Jennifer Snoek-Brown. He is intelligent, well-rounded, and doesn't live his whole life in the library. In fact, most scenes we see him in are NOT in the library. He is very well-read, mentor to Jim, best friend, and is, as some describe, "stronger than most trolls was his extraordinary intelligence...[and] was much stronger than any human, and thanks to his four arms, he could do things only a few others were able to."
Tumblr media
Blinky, in his human form, overjoyed with reading in the episode "Party Monster," while others read books behind him
On the negative side, Blinky obviously has no professional training, and his library seems to mainly be filled with books, making it a book depository of sorts. This is another common portrayal of libraries, unfortunately. As Jena Barchas-Lichtenstein and Rebecca Joy Norlander write, "books are part of the picture, but they’re not the whole story," as libraries offer many services. There is a push to make libraries more community, or even cultural, centers, and be more than book depositories. There is no doubt that book depositories have their value, but libraries are so much more than that, but that doesn't always come through in popular culture. As Tracy Fisher puts it, public libraries are a "place to host knowledge in all forms....[and they] have evolved to meet the needs of the communities they serve." While this is a private library, the same principle still applies here. We also never see exactly the classification or organization system of this library, even though there is bound to be one, based on who Blinky is as a character.
On the positive side, the library is shown as a place of knowledge and the characters use it over and over in order to either help their friends or solve quests along the way. Blinky is also such a vital character than if he was removed from the story, then the show might just fall apart! Blinky is a librarian, but he is so much more than a librarian, and a fighter, although not like the librarian-soldiers in Library War, for instance, to note one recent example described on this blog.
I think that's about all I have to say on this, especially since no one else, from what I can find, seems to have written about this character and how he is a librarian. He is one of the better depictions of librarians I have seen in popular culture and in animated series, even though his library is not "amazing" but just a humble abode.

[1] Consisting of Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia (2016-2018), 3Below (2018-2019),  and Wizards (2020).
[2] A library also appears in the episode "Spellbound" of Wizards. In the episode, Merlin tells them a story of the past in his library an the threat that they, and the world, faces. This location, known as "Merlin's Workshop," within Camelot, comes up in episodes throughout the series, but this is the most prominent time it comes up in the series, as it is mostly used as a workshop.
[3] Also, the library appears in the episode "Something Rotten This Way Comes" as a meeting place, where Jim, Toby, and Claire meet in the library with Vendel, defending Jim's actions.

So I'm watching Bly Manor and I'd thought I'd do them as Sanders Sides because why not:
Dani - Logan
Hannah - Thomas
Flora - Roman
Miles - Remus
Jamie - Virgil
Owen - Nico
Peter - Mitchell
Rebecca - Elliot
Charlotte - Patton
Dominic -
Henry - Janus
A couple big reasons I placed people where I did:
Thomas - Hannah's entire epsiode... anyways
Dani: Obviously she's the teacher. But she's also very logical in how she acts and prides herself on this which blinds her to her more emotional moments and makes it hard for her to cope with them.
Remus and Roman: Once I actually learned whats going on with the kids it just makes sense. The way Miles did what it took to get back to his sister. The way Flora is a romantic.
Virgil: look I read one au where he was an angry Gardner(adrienwrites fantasy au) and that's who Jaimie is. I think she's very self conscious and angry in a very similar way to Virgil. I like this idk.
As for Elliot and Mitchell... I just really didn't want a side as Peter.
Finally I think I like Janus as Henry because of the way Henry pushes through his regrets and returns to Bly in the last episode in ep 6(I haven't finished yet). I think the lies he tells align very closely Janus.
Patton... I struggle with. I think Charlotte's moments with the kids match him well. In this au I think he would choose to break things off with Janus and actually confess to his partner. The only conflicting feelings I have about this is the scene where Henry is confronted by Dominic. And he says "She's my daughter"... very pattony vibes... but that conflicts with pretty much everything.
So as of ep 6 this is where I think the sides would fit.

Sob Stories: books for when you need a good cry
Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng
Lydia is dead. But they don’t know this yet. So begins this exquisite novel about a Chinese American family living in 1970s small-town Ohio. Lydia is the favorite child of Marilyn and James Lee, and her parents are determined that she will fulfill the dreams they were unable to pursue. But when Lydia’s body is found in the local lake, the delicate balancing act that has been keeping the Lee family together is destroyed, tumbling them into chaos. A profoundly moving story of family, secrets, and longing, Everything I Never Told You is both a gripping page-turner and a sensitive family portrait, uncovering the ways in which mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, and husbands and wives struggle, all their lives, to understand one another.
The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman
Australia, 1926. After four harrowing years fighting on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns home to take a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day's journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby's cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby. Tom, whose records as a lighthouse keeper are meticulous and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel has taken the tiny baby to her breast. Against Tom's judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them. M. L. Stedman's mesmerizing, beautifully written debut novel seduces us into accommodating Isabel's decision to keep this "gift from God." And we are swept into a story about extraordinarily compelling characters seeking to find their North Star in a world where there is no right answer, where justice for one person is another's tragic loss.
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the court of King Peleus and his perfect son Achilles. By all rights their paths should never cross, but Achilles takes the shamed prince as his friend, and as they grow into young men skilled in the arts of war and medicine their bond blossoms into something deeper - despite the displeasure of Achilles' mother Thetis, a cruel sea goddess. But then word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped. Torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus journeys with Achilles to Troy, little knowing that the years that follow will test everything they hold dear. Profoundly moving and breathtakingly original, this rendering of the epic Trojan War is a dazzling feat of the imagination, a devastating love story, and an almighty battle between gods and kings, peace and glory, immortal fame and the human heart.
In Five Years by Rebecca Serle
Where do you see yourself in five years? When Type-A Manhattan lawyer Dannie Kohan is asked this question at the most important interview of her career, she has a meticulously crafted answer at the ready. Later, after nailing her interview and accepting her boyfriend's marriage proposal, Dannie goes to sleep knowing she is right on track to achieve her five-year plan. But when she wakes up, she’s suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger, and beside a very different man. The television news is on in the background, and she can just make out the scrolling date. It’s the same night—December 15—but 2025, five years in the future. After a very intense, shocking hour, Dannie wakes again, at the brink of midnight, back in 2020. She can’t shake what has happened. It certainly felt much more than merely a dream, but she isn’t the kind of person who believes in visions. That nonsense is only charming coming from free-spirited types, like her lifelong best friend, Bella. Determined to ignore the odd experience, she files it away in the back of her mind. That is, until four-and-a-half years later, when by chance Dannie meets the very same man from her long-ago vision. Brimming with joy and heartbreak, In Five Years is an unforgettable love story that reminds us of the power of loyalty, friendship, and the unpredictable nature of destiny.

Useless Gays Series Masterlist
(If you look at my AO3 you’ll notice that this doesn’t exactly line up, that’s because the original chapter 9 was a self-indulgent 300 hug scene that I wrote that I don’t really see a need to post on here. So Chapter 9- Merry Christmas! is actually Chapter 10 on AO3)
