Reading all this Batfam fic has me trying to guess what stuff happened in canon based on how often it's referenced in multiple works like I'm some scholar trying to reconstruct some ancient lost ur-text based on other people's retellings of it. Like, I'm pretty sure the Batman canon included a scene where Red Hood breaks into the Titans Tower, attacks Tim Drake, and leaves a message saying "Jason Todd was here." Variants of it have shown up in quite a few fics I've read. Do I know the details? Not really. I think that Tim's shoulder was dislocated and the other Titans were drugged, too, but I'm less sure about those than I am of the event broadly happening. Granted, the first fandom in which I read copious amounts of fic is Danny Phantom, notorious for its extensive fanon, so I'm aware that I can't say conclusively whether or not Red Hood attacked Tim Drake in Titans Tower. But I'm pretty sure it happened.

once i had a really bad sleep paralysis event where it felt like a whole bunch of hands that emerged from my bed were pushing my head in an attempt to suffocate me, but then this random guy entered my doorway and upon seeing me tried to negotiate with the hands to make them stop killing me. the sentiment was nice but he did a horrible job and made everything worse so i had to break free from the hands on my own. the hands were still there though and made attempts to suffocate me again but the guy from earlier peeked into my room again, causing the hands to dissipate for good. it was only then that i got a good look at his face and wouldn’t you know it. sleep paralysis shadow man was jerma985.

The Reprieve is a rest house- not quite a tavern, not quite a club- designed to give adventurers, travelers, and any who need it a place to sit down, enjoy a good meal, and relax before heading back into their travels. 🥐 When and Where is the Reprieve?

The Reprieve is hosted on the first and third Tuesday of every month (barring holidays or host IRL obligations) from 6PM - 8PM WrA/PST. You can find us in the Mereldar Inn in Hallowfall, and we also try to have a group up on Group Finder for anyone who might be phased.

I.CE is kidnapping people off the streets and at workplaces all around the country and even cities I frequent too. Nothing new but it's more rampant right now. As a very leftist Tolkien fan, I do not feel talking about any of this is way too off the mark. March of the Ents? Last Alliance of Middle-earth? Scourging of the Shire?

This is not to say Tolkien himself fully condones radical political leftism, BUT! You can definitely read it into the works. There are some race issues, gender issues, religion-based ideas on sex and whatever in the text and ideas Tolkien held. He was a white European man; gonna happen. It sucks. Overall though? ✊ People power and action.

I'm not done about my Series of Unfortunate Events bullshit so here we go.

The division between good and evil is drawn, quartered, blurred, and then recast several times. It's really interesting stuff and a great thing for this work's audience. But I feel like there's on throughline that doesn't falter in the series. And that is Effort.

Doing good takes effort. It takes sacrifice and courage and wisdom, yes, but above all else it takes effort to do the right thing. Let's say, oh I don't know some random example, there is a house on fire. It's a lot of work to gather people, get buckets, move them along, and rescue anyone inside. It's hot, hard work and what're you rewarded with at the end? A smoldering wreck and a few saved lives if you're lucky. Luck having nothing to do with effort. But it's almost certainly the right thing to do, right? So it won't spread and to create the mere chance to save lives.

I don't think it's any confabulation of childish story that Count Olaf's disguises suck. He puts no effort into them because he simply doesn't have to. He could put a piece of tape over a ship's name, and if anyone chanced to want to uncover it he would firmly put his thumb upon it and shout about property rights. Anything to make it too much effort to bother uncovering at all. He relies on it, revels in how willing people are to take the easiest possible route around him. But by the same token of him guarding his paper plaque it will never stand up to the sea herself. Not forever. So everything around him is in constant disrepair. His nametag sad and yellowed and frayed because engraving and embossing is a pain.

Effort defines good and evil actions more consistently than any other marker in the books, I feel. All evil needs to succeed, after all, is for someone to do nothing, when they could have done something a little uncomfortable.

The idea of a fighting partnership being broken and leaving its bereaved half fundamentally changed has come up three times now in the game. Does that qualify as a motif? Istvan and Erik’s split has moved Erik from Some Henchman among the various antagonists (von Bergow, von Aulitz, Rosenberg, Toth, Sigismund) to Evil Incarnate, Bohuta and Slavek’s is a minor yet unskippable detail, Janosh and Adder’s gets the full cinematic treatment, arguably players have an option to inflict the same on Henry if they save the silver.
