I absolutely don't mean this in a bad way, but I think a lot about how Pokemon is a power fantasy for kids. And I know this is obvious because it's a game for children, but let me ramble.
Think about it: you can go wherever you want, knowing you're safe because your Pokemon will protect you. In the later games, you can dress however you want and express yourself freely. You can connect with nature and communities of friendly kids and adults around you. You can make a meaningful, positive impact on the world. You can stand toe-to-toe with adults who, in real life, would ignore or even belittle you because you're just a kid. (And, of course, you have superpowered pets that love you.)
I think about how in the original games, Brock and Misty are presented as kids/young teens and become friends with Ash. But, Lt. Surge presents a difficulty spike-- if you chose Bulbasaur, you can easily sweep the first two gyms with it, but now you don't have a supereffective match up unless you plan more. I think it's meaningful, then, that Lt. Surge is portrayed a big, scary adult man and military to boot. In the anime, he's presented as being condescending and intimidating toward Ash. But, you as the player are able to overcome this intimidating man through the power of your Pokemon. The same can be said for people like Team Rocket and Giovanni-- Giovanni's original sprite in Red & Blue makes it look like he's looming over you, sneering at you.
It can easily be forgotten by adult fans, but you're seeing this world through the perspective of a child. Giovanni looming over you represents how it feels to be a child, powerless, and face an adult who's cruel to you. But you defeat him at every match up.
Satoshi Tajiri would go on to say that Pokemon was inspired by his childhood, in which he'd go out and collect bugs. Miyamoto would say that the first Zelda game was inspired by his childhood in which he'd explore the local area and caves and so on.
It makes me sad to think that, as the world becomes more modern, more urbanized, and (as parents tend to see it, at least) more unsafe, this childhood that inspired these classic games become further out of reach for kids. When I was growing up, I lived in a suburb full of concrete. I couldn't walk anywhere, and even if I could, my mother was too anxious to let me just go around unsupervised.
This is why getting the bike is such a big moment in Pokemon-- you can go so much farther as a kid on a bike! But, I also could only ride my bike up and down my boring street before running into a major street full of cars going 50 MPH that would have murdered me instantly.
This isn't a doom post. I still believe that we can repair the damage that capitalism and cars have done to the world. But, I think that in times like this, it's more important than ever for kids to have access to these power fantasies, these escapes from a world that they have no ability to fix, but still suffer from regardless.
Ironically, I think that when I play Pokemon now, I play it to feel smaller rather than to feel bigger, the opposite of how I played it as a kid. Now, it's comforting to escape from work and stress into a world in which your only concerns are walking to the next town, catching a new Pokemon, and maybe fighting a gym leader. The same can be said of any piece of media that someone is nostalgic for, but I think Pokemon feeds into it well because its design is so baked in the experience of being a child.
When I'm playing Pokemon, especially when replaying an old game, I still remember things like only saving in Pokemon centers so that my character could sleep there in a nice building, or imagining them setting up camp if I had to save and quit on a route. If I had time, I would feed my Pokemon some Pokeblocks or etc. at my little 'camp' so they wouldn't be hungry (which is why I felt like the cooking and camping systems from SwSh were so real for me, haha).
I don't think that there's a 'wrong' way to play Pokemon-- I know people enjoy competitive Pokemon, and strict challenge runs, and stuff. And I can enjoy that, too! But, for me, Pokemon is about childhood, you know?

@oflegendariesandtrainers Continued from here
"Yeah! I adopted him at the Moon Festival." Celeste replied; noticing the Hisuian Zoruas revealing themselves to her. So that's what they normally look like?
The difference is much more obvious with these regional variants than the Unovan one she's used to; while they still retained the change of red to blue, these ones also change from white to gray.
Celeste looked down at the strange looking cake that Hisao held out in front of her. "I'm...not sure if he's the food motivated type..." Judging by how his littermate had responded to being offered Pokeblocks.
Considering it was that she knew that her's was a regional variant being what got him drawn to her; it was only that she didn't know where this one came from initially.

My Pokémon Advanced Series Rewrite — New Objectives and Ideas
Recently, I saw “What if Ash Won the Hoenn League” by The Robin Clan in YouTube. The series is wonderful, and as I watched it, it inspired me to add some several more ideas I never thought about before for my Pokemon Advanced Series rewrite, as well as some ideas to add some extra improvement to the AG movies.
Ash participating in Pokemon Contests
Morrison and Tyson having much larger roles.
Brock learning about Pokeblocks, with Max helping out.
Juan being Wallace’s predecessor and mentor.
Exploring the backstories of the People of the Land, People of the Water and People of the Sky.
Exploring the backstories of the Red Orb, the Blue Orb and the Jade Orb.
And the improvements to the AG movies are below…
Jirachi Wish Maker — Having Butler remain as a member of Team Magma, albeit as Magma’s chief scientist.
Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea — Having Phantom the Pirate and his entire crew be former members of Team Aqua, as evidenced by the faded Team Aqua symbol on Phantom’s submarine, helicopters, etc.
Now with these new features, that obviously means that more episodes will be added… episodes with these new objectives in mind, as well as episodes that allow more landscape-exploring across Hoenn, like the Jungles of route 119. I’ll talk more about the new objectives above in future posts so stay tuned.

[A Video is attached… But Rotom isn’t taking it. And neither is Nictoria… So who took it?] (Pt4)
The video opens on a stack of small pumpkins in a wagon. Triumphantly beside the wagon stood a proud Nett-Toria, hands on hips. She chuckled to herself smugly, nodding at the wagon of gourds.
All she has to do is fix what she broke. Logically speaking, if she replaced a pumpkin for each one she had smashed, she would return to normal!
Nic turned, looking down the long streets of the Petalberg shopping district. Curbstomped pumpkins stat in front of nearly every business…
The Banette’s vibrato wavered. Shit, that was a lot of fucking pumpkins to replace.
She turned back to her wagon, which looked almost pitiful now in comparison to the destruction she had wrought the previous night. She would need to run back and forth from the pumpkin patch for hours to get this done!
Nictoria sighed, smacking her clothen face gently. Focus!
She began pulling her wagon down the street, lifting the broken pumpkins in and putting brand new pumpkins out.
A few people stopped, watching the spectacle of it all. A Banette with a little red wagon full of pumpkins, fixing Halloween decorations… it was—
“How adorable!”
Nett-Toria looked up, nearly falling over in shock at the sight of a Hex Maniac gazing down at her.
The trainer’s Ghastly smiled down at Nic, blinking a greeting before speaking.
Surprisingly, this part has been translated from Pokémon to Common tongue for your convenience.
“Ghaaaaaaaaast~ (Hiya cuz!)”
“NYEEAAAHHETTT NETTNETT! (SHHHHIT! PLEASE DON’T TAKE MY SOUL I’M SORRY I SMASHED THE PUMPKINS!)”
Nett-Toria dove behind her wagon, covering her eyes and head from the other Ghost Type. She shook gently in fear, unable to stay still.
The Hex Maniac and her Ghastly looked between each other, trading looks of concern.
Ghastly floated in closer, trying to reason:
“Ghaaaaaas! Ghaaaastly? (Hey, no need to freak, fellow freak! Something bothering you?)
Nett-Toria peered out at the Ghastly from under her hand, blinking slowly.
“Net net…? (You can talk…?)”
“Gaaaas! Gas! (Course I can! Just like you!)”
Nictoria swallowed nervously, but stood up, sheepishly making eye contact with the Hex Maniac, then the Ghastly. She was being sooooo brave right now. If only someone could see how badass this was.
“Nettnettnett. (Sorry. I’ve been on edge. Pokémon things! You understand.)” she lied.
“Sorry we scared you, little one.” The Hex Maniac giggled, producing a Pokeblock and offering it to Nictoria.
“Here, a peace offering.”
“Ghaaaaas! (Lucky!)”
Nictoria took the Pokeblock, eating it instantly. She chewed thoughtfully, trying to get a taste for what berries it had. But her own tongue was alien to her. It certainly tasted good, but she had no idea why.
“Would you like some help? I see you’re fixing the decorations.” She offered. “Gasper and I were going to do the same.”
The Ghastly nodded in confirmation, smiling wide.
“Nett!! Nett!! (Yes!! Fuck yes please!!)” Nictoria hopped in the air with excitement. The faster this got done, the sooner she could go home!
“Wonderful! Let’s hop to it then.”
[The video ends here.]

Red looks a little busy reading a nature magazine, but Blue goes ahead and slides into his lap anyway, staring at him intently.
Looks like someone wants attention.
He'd been busy scanning over an article about the best treats to make for your pokemon depending on their abilities, something about pokeblocks, anddd...
The brunette peers up from his spot on the couch as Blue crosses his vision, settling herself right on his lap. It makes him smile, Red shuttering the magazine shut and tucking it between the arm of the furniture and his thigh.
Raising one hand, Red would brush the back of his knuckles against her cheek, before tucking loose strands of hair behind her ear.
"... ... ...?" He would furrow one brow, presenting a playful grin; expectant. What was she looking for?

Pelipper mail!
[A large box delivered by a rather large Pelipper! The Pelipper has a ankle tag that has an id number and the name "Shower".
The box is full of carefully packed snacks native to Hoenn Lava cookie bites, Mt. Chimmey puffs (//Think spicy cheetos), little mochi cakes, and... two boxes of pokeblocks...? Oh! One of them is for people! Seems to be a novelty snack.
There is also a little refrigerated box with a strawberry cheesecake and light chocolate drizzle.
And finally... a rather crappy looking scarf, it's functional, but it's clear whoever made it is not good at knitting. The colors are a mish mash of blue, purple, and red. There's a note.]
"Hello son (son!!), I hope nothing got crushed or squished on its way to you and I hope that you feel better soon. Sorry for the short note... I'm not the greatest at emotions, it's more Archie's thing. -Maxie"
[The Pelipper flies off once she sees that everything arrived safely, flying into the sky before disappearing, seemingly into thin air.]
//I hope I typed everything right, I'm doing this on my phone ^^;
[Saint smiles, holding back tears, just reading the note over and over.]
Thank you, dads!! I greatly appreciate it!!!
[Attached is a photo of Saint, happy crying, wearing the scarf.]

one of the worst things about YouTube, as someone who uses Watch Later all the time while working, is that the YouTube home screen & recommendation feature is almost worse when you use the watch later function. Take a look at this:
Everything highlighted purplish is a video already in my Watch Later. In fact, in a lot of these cases, these are videos I put into my Watch Later because I saw them on the recommended page! What purpose does it serve to show me videos I have already interacted with and have put into they playlist YouTube made for me that explicitly says "I understand this video exists, I have already expressed interest in watching it, and I plan on watching it in said playlist." Why would you keep showing me the same videos over and over and over and over, especially when I've already engaged with said video!
On the one hand, obviously the Recommended page works for me because it actively gets me to put videos into my Watch Later queue and then watch said videos. On the other hand, whatever recommendation algorithms are a bit shit at not repeating itself over and over at you.
When I talk about how I don't mind a "algorithm" feed, this is what I'm talking about. Only watching the shit I subscribe to would be boring, and I wouldn't have subscribed to newwer-to-me people like Tolarian Community College or Cathode Ray Dude or F.D Signifier or Jessie Gender or any other number of people I subscribe to now. I would not have put that PokeBlock video or the Haiku video or the Maniac in Baseball video in my Watch Later if I didn't see them here. Hell, I watched a video the other day from someone talking all about a overview of the original base set of Pokemon TCG and I wouldn't have known it existed if I didn't see that recommended first.
The problem is when you use the tools given to you and suddenly everything falls apart. I put things in my Watch Later from the Recommended tab and now everything's clogged. I get 2 new-to-me videos out of 9. 7 of those videos it is trivial for YouTube to know I've already interacted with so they should stop showing me them. Scrolling down, some videos are ones I watched the night before! I watched a Pikmin TAS last night, and now I'm being shown the same TAS. I can see the red bar on the thumbnail filled up! You want me to watch it again?
It shouldn't be like this. It shouldn't have to be like this. I simply want to discover new videos, watch new things, and it feels like I'm being punished with a bad user experience for using the tools provided to me to do the things they tell me they want me to do.

[A package arrives adressed to Professor. Amaryllis, along with a note:]
Hi! It’s Sera, I heard it was your birthday! Happy Birthday! I’m not really sure what flavors your pokemon like but I brought my pokeblock maker to summer camp and made a bunch for fun, so I decided to send some your way!
[Inside, as expected are a variety of pokeblocks 25 in total, wrapped up in tissue paper. They’re a bit misshapen from shipping, but they look like they’d taste fine.]
@bugsandbrainstypebeat
[A photo is embedded. Dexter the Dustox perches on the back of a hotel chair holding a red pokeblock in his front most set of legs while he nibbles on it happily. ]
Thank you, Sera. They seem to be quite the hit so far, you've done a lovely job with them. I hope you're doing well and enjoying your time at camp!

Haaii!! First time using this platform, so I think I should introduce myself in my first post!
Name's Melody, one of the most amazing Hoenn Pokemon trainers to ever exist! I love battling, doing contests, making Pokeblocks and most importantly I love my hun Red!! Hii hunny!! ( @theblazingexplorer ) He's literally the best, I love him so much!
Whoops, got carried away.. So as I was saying, I'm from Hoenn, and I have tons of Hoenn Pokemon, to me, they're the bestest! And Hoenn itself is a wonderful home to me too! I'm also a minor, so some I personally block those who will try to mess with me or with my hunny. ^^ I'm watching you.
I also love exploring and traveling! As for now I'm visiting Kanto, where my hun is! I've been in a few regions.. But I wish to explore more!
Now I think it's time I introduce my lovely Pokemon as well!
~{Sceptile!}~
My starter Pokemon, I love him so much! ..Except when he's loafing around and being a lazy prick, but other than that, I really love him!!
He often helps me dealing with certain water types, and even dragon types when Mega Evolved!
He's calm in nature, sometimes gets frightened for no reason.. But that's okay! I can't really blame him all the time.. But sometimes he SHOULD know some obvious things so I wouldn't get mad at him.
~{Aggron!}~
One of my strongest Pokemon! He is very loyal to me, and always makes sure if I am okay and safe! He's like my bodyguard, I really am happy ever since I picked and raised him when he was an Aron!
Sometimes he's a tempered one, so all my friends have to be careful around him! There have.. been some when he lashed out on others! But that's okay I forgive him for that. <3
I always use him battles, and I even Mega Evolve him if I'm in a difficult battle, he becomes unstoppable! I don't recall losing any battles when I am with him! He's geniually one of the best pokemon I ever had! ^^
~{Salamence!}~
Quite a brave one, I really love him! He's always eager to participate anywhere with me, as well traveling too! I always soar in the skies with him when I feel upset, he knows how to make me feel better!
At some times, he's a tough and a brave pokemon! But there also times when he's.. soft, and very relaxed! I don't get him sometimes but I am very glad he understands me pretty well!
He's also one of the Pokemon I use Mega Evolution on! Usually I do so when participating in Sky Battles! He gets a little angry and irritated during those, however. I can't tell why..
~{Sharpedo!}~
This is one of the violent ones! Even more violent than Aggron sometimes.
He's always feeling angry whenever I'm not around him, and in most times he always bites other Pokemon! Not mine, however. Whenever he's feeling happy, he always becomes very active and even interacts with my other Pokemon, which he doesn't usually does!
He also helps me with swimming around the Hoenn, and sometimes even going in some mysterious places underwater! That's how I met my Sableye, which I talk about soon! But other than that, he HATES psychic-type Pokemon. I don't know why, but.. I guess he has his own reasons!
~{Sableye!}~
Now it's time for this lil fella! Silly, even! Maybe even mischievious. But seriously though, he is very silly and mischivious, even around me!
One day I caught him in the underwater cave I found when I was exploring with Sharpedo, and he was quite difficult to catch, until he decided to decided to join my team by catching itself with one of my strongest Pokeballs.. But ever since he joined my team, he became more stubborn and did all sorts of pranks on me! One time he even stole a Mega Stone from one of the trainers.. He still keeps it to this very day!
But aside from his.. stubborn and silly behaviour, he still remains loyal to me, and sometimes even makes some gifts to me out of.. stones and gems! I don't know where he gets those, and I think I will keep this question to myself.
~{Camerupt!}~
Now it's time for my final Pokemon in my team! He's quite an quiet one, and never usually does anything until it's time for a battle, or for a contest!
And when he battles, oh Arceus he does it pretty well! He also LOVES eating Pokeblocks, and always finds places with tons of berries! I guess he likes eating sweet stuff most of the time? He also likes when I'm patting him, and when I'm taking care of him after each battle!
He also keeps me warm during cold weather, I really appreciate everything he does to me, such a cutie he is!
I guess that's it for a introduction! I'll make sure to post more things soon!! Hope we won't have any problems in the future! ^^
{OOC information:}
{Hello everyone! This is one the side pokeblogs made by @hmb265 . Pelipper mail, musharna mail and sapient Pokemon are on as always! This is a character heavily connected to @theblazingexplorer , and there will be more soon!}

part three ( part two here )
After bringing the stray pumpkaboo inside, Green had to leave it all by itself, because it kept crying in despair and fear. He gently left it on his couch with a few pieces of pokeblocks, sitting down by his table and allowing it to calm down.
After a few minutes, he spied over his shoulder to see the pumpkaboo nibbling some food. He smiled.
He knows he's not good at connecting with pokemon like Red is. How he manages to attract them, to have them trust him and be safe around him.
As a Pokemon Professor, he should be better at it. What if he lacks what's more important for his job? Maybe he still didn't learn to love pokemon with all his heart.
He sighed. But then something touched his foot.
Looking down, he saw the pumpkin pokemon looking up at him with unsure eyes.
"Hey. Feeling better now? Already ate all of that, huh," He picked pumpkaboo up, setting it by his lap. Closer like this, he can figure the cuts around its body to be caterpie bites. "Looks like they thought you were a pumpkin or something. It must have been scary..."
The Pokemon watched with caution as Green opened his drawer, fetching a full restore.
"This will hurt a little bit, okay? But you'll feel better soon."
Gently, he sprayed the potion against the tiny pokemon's body. At first, it screamed and jumped, until it suddenly stopped. Oh! The pain fully went away. Its cuts are fully healed!
Pumpkaboo Looked up at Green with shiny, bright eyes.
"Haha! Technology is amazing, isnt it?" He giggled, caressing its head. "I still have to analyze why you can't float though. Will you let me help you?"
The pokemon blinked, unaware of Green's words. It could feel this person meant well, and those pokeblocks were really tasty. Maybe, for now, it can rest a little bit.
Nestling up against Green's arm, the small pumpkin pokemon yawned, eyes heavy.
"Well. I guess you`re tired, aren't you?" he said softy, heart warm. Did he manage to get this little fellow to trust him? "Sleep well, friend."

[ I hope that means you're not unpredictable, ] Red inquires, [ I worry about him, he gets in danger a lot, doesn't think about his actions. ]
Ah, nice to meet you, pot! I'm kettle!
Part of him is a little relieved not to be starting the introductions this time around, it's a skill he's particularly neglected, as if his restrictive social life wasn't obvious.
The rat still sat politely, letting out a minor mewl when the raichu takes her own seat, waving her little paw one more time as a proper greeting. Sparks dance against Pika's cheeks, tail dancing behind her. It isn't long before she starts yammering on, talking as teeny hands cling onto her feet, Pika rocking back and forth like a child. Something about pecha berries, pokeblocks, and a cool twig she found earlier that day. Yap yap yap.
[ Shake Ethan, he could use a wake-up call. ] Red sighs when the both of them are mentioned, [ I have plans to speak to Lyra, it's agonizing. ] For once, he'd been attempting to play adult among this next generation of young trainers.
Tough, was a good way to describe it.
Regardless, the hiker would shrug, introducing himself before extending a girthy hand to shake. [ Red. Nice to meet you. ]
Kid? He can't be much younger than this Red is. But he knows its a jest. He lets it go, watching as Belle - realizing her signals haven't gotten through - resigns herself to flop down and strike up a conversation with Pika.
Thank Ho-Oh.
[And I you, through the Red I know.] Gold hums. [He speaks well of you. So do a few others. I thought that warrented a hello, at least.]
[Ethan is certainly a stark contrast to myself, in more ways than one. Watching him interact with his Lyra is akin to watching two Slowpoke figure out intentions. I do not know which of them I want to shake more.] He snorts, amused, before nodding. [But, yes. There is a non-zero chance we may work together in the future, and it pays to get to know your allies.]

I actually played inclement emerald before this one and enjoyed it IMMENSELY. I decided to be a baby and play on easy mode And Then EV Train Anyways so it wasn't super hard or anything but it was still really enjoyable. I loved that the added QOL features like the nature changer, Evie+Ivy, and the poke vial were written in such a cute way that they didn't break immersion at all. I absolutely recommend it if you're looking for a great pokemon hack!!
#suchobabbles#playing radical red now is like. oh ok so the nature changer is just a guy. huh.#the chef who changed natures via pokeblocks was soooo much cuter...
