Reactions to the Mistaken One's Chapter 165

TL;DR - Cale versus the red scale. The Imoogi's story. Red crown from the novel cover is finally here!

Cale vs Red Scale There was a brief battle between Cale and the red scale. The scale was stuck in Cale's hand, and wouldn't fall off. Add to Cale's problems was the white crown coveting the red scale so much that Cale had to slam it on the ground several times. Thankfully, using the Fire AP was the answer to everything, and it weakened the pressure from the scale.

The Young Imoogi, Perpetual Fist King narrated the imoogi's tale last chapter, but today, Cale got a glimpse of the true story from the imoogi's perspective. I won't repeat what happened, but the tale from the imoogi's side was sadder and more touching. 🥲

If there were some differences, it was the imoogi left on its own to search for fire instead of being left by the child in the mountains. And the reverse scale was not actually a scale. It was the cintamani itself, but the imoogi's friend had forged it into the form of a scale to make it look prettier.

The imoogi had the voice of a young girl the same age as On, and could even transform into a half-human, half-dragon. Her human friend gave her the name "Perpetual" in her hopes for the imoogi to live long.

There were also the sad death scene and the imoogi's realization that she filled her cintamani not with nature's fire but human warmth and affection... 😭

Red Crown From Novel Cover is Here So after the imoogi showed her past to Cale, the scale transformed into a small candle-like fire. And what we were all waiting for happens! White crown + Maxi's crown + imoogi's fire = Red Crown!

The three fused, and Cale was left standing with a red crown on his head. CJS remarked that it suited Cale. The chapter ended with Cale laughing out loud as he got what he wanted... Or maybe not. He did postpone unsealing the Fire AP because he prioritized the crown fusion.

Ending Remarks Well, Cale was in his KRS form and dressed in murim clothes, so it was still far from the novel cover... But at least, we now know where the red crown came from! Next mystery is the background. Which world is that from?

Anyway, today's chapter was half-sad, and half-exciting. As for the next chapter, I'm not sure what's going to happen... If I recall, there was supposed to be another elixir from Fist King, the earth attribute one? Perhaps we'll have more elixir consuming next chapter.

I like this one a lot design-wise. The collar is dope and I think the maroon accent lines divide the black/blue in a way that makes for a nice overall jacket profile. Kind of a shiny material, probably leather? Simple and clean design but it's also pretty safe. I get kind of just a normal biker jacket vibe from this one (yes I'm aware the zipper design doesn't exactly line up with that style but I don't know how else to classify the style).

Thoughts on The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday Part 2

“Christmas is officially back on!” And apparently, a city news reporter like yourself has the power to declare a holiday uncanceled. Why is Diane not in this again?

The others’ reactions to Snake getting all touchy-feely 🥹. OMG I WANNA HUG HIM SO BAD!!! (At the same time though, the close-ups on his face during this scene are so off-putting that it kinda ruins the moment for me.)

“That vortex is about to suck in the whole city, we don’t have time to be mad at me.” Sure, Wolf. Act like endangering your only friends isn’t worth getting angry over. You’ve really disappointed me this time. 😔

In all fairness though, at least he does apologize and admits how much the others mean to him. And I love how the other guys pretend to be disgusted but at the same time are moved to tears, while Snake is just like, “Yeah, whatever 😒.” (Even though we all know he’s bawling on the inside.)

The scene right after Shark is tossed out of the vortex without his shirt…the characters look like they’re literally floating off the ground…

That one random guy getting sucked into the vortex is actually pretty funny…in a “WTF is this animation?” kind of way.

“Are you seeing this?” No, Tiffany, all I see is your badly-animated face. Now please get it out of mine. XD

Aww, that’s adorable how the Bad Guys try to save each other from the vortex 😊…Now can we talk about the fact that the animators clearly just took still images of Piranha and Tarantula and moved them around?

How did Shark get his shirt back after all that?

Wolf’s motions as he’s falling out of the Santa bot…again, what is this, the Looney Tunes? Oh and nice dust effect when he lands by the way. I feel like this was made for a PlayStation 2 game, not Netflix.

Wait…so, the promo for this special clearly showed Shark in a Santa suit…but the closest we get to him cosplaying as Santa is him doing a voice. What. 😐

Oh, and since the Bad Guys were exposed to potentially-lethal, freezing temperatures, they all end up sick on Christmas. And Wolf has the gall to complain despite being the reason it happened. Just be thankful it’s only a cold and not frostbite, buddy.

In all seriousness though, I feel bad for them. Like, I wanna make them all better, but mostly Snake. He looks soooo miserable and I can only imagine how as a kid he must have had no one to take care of him when he was sick. That is so heartbreaking. And when he says “Bah humbug” in the middle of sneezing? Awww, poor baby! 🥺

Apparently, Santa really does exist in this universe and the Bad Guys are miffed that they ended up on his Nice List. Which…kinda seems out of character in all honesty. Like…wasn’t them being treated as something other than criminals the reason they turned good in the movie? They’re not disgusted by the concept of good (except maybe Snake); They just don’t understand it. Now I see why people had a problem with this being set before the movie.

And we end with the Bad Guys planning to heist the North Pole…which would have made a much better, much more interesting holiday special. If this does become a series, I hope they make an episode out of that.

And before we get to my final thoughts, let’s see which of my predictions for the special came true:

There will be at least one reference to the Grinch-✅ Yep! And a Die Hard reference, too, surprisingly.

The gang will have a Christmas tree with stolen jewels for ornaments-❌ Nope. I don’t think they had any decorations in their hideout or at least none I could see.

Wolf will get a good tingle from saving everyone’s Christmas-❌ Nope. The opposite happened. He apparently hates the idea of being seen as good now. 🤨

Shark will be a mall Santa-❌ We don’t see him in a mall and the only likeness to the man in red he gives is his voice, so I’m gonna say no.

Piranha will have a holiday-themed musical number-✅ Got that one!

Someone will call Snake a “Scrooge”-❌ Nope. He acts like him and even says “Bah humbug,” but no one outright calls him that.

Also, Snake will secretly hate Christmas because of some past trauma-❌ They don’t say or even imply it, but let’s be honest: we know he has some form of trauma from Christmas.

Diane will only have a cameo-❌ Sadly, no. They were determined to keep her out of this special, apparently.

Luggins and Tiffany will return-Well, this one is half right.

The Bad Guys will have a gift exchange with stolen goods-❌ Nope. Go to luonnonvalinnat for that one ‘cause you ain’t gonna find it here.

Final score: 2.5/10. Wow. Either I don’t know the Bad Guys as well as I thought, or the creators of this potential series don’t know how to write them. Eh. I’m going with the latter.

As for the special itself? It's a 5/10 for me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we got to see the gang again and I'm even more glad we might get to see their shenanigans in a spinoff series some day. And even though it was kinda dumb and there was potential for it to be even better, I didn't mind the story that much. The voice acting is good enough, even if I don't recognize anyone's name except Grey DeLisle. It's the ANIMATION that really kills this thing for me. My god, what a trainwreck. Like, no joke, there were several times throughout this thing where I just wanted to look away because the characters were just...so ugly! I get that this is the result of a low budget, and they couldn't make it as fluid as the movie's animation. The problem, of course, is that the animation in the Bad Guys movie is SO beautifully fluid, even removing like 1% of its fluidity makes it look terrible. They probably should have done what Captain Underpants did and just made the whole thing 2D. At least then it would have looked somewhat appealing.

I don't know, if you haven't seen this special yet and are curious about it, I say just buy the novelization instead, because this alone is not worth a subscription to Netflix. Plus, the novelization includes a bonus chapter of the Bad Guys on New Year's, so there's that. And if you have seen the special, let me know what you guys thought about it. Kinda casually dropped some Zane angst in here, and a bit of Lloyd angst too. Disclaimers: Show owned by LEGO. This is not a professional review/critique - it’s mainly intended for comedy.

- Does Jay materialize out of lightning? Why does he never use this again?? ❌

- ^ I see what they’re trying to do here but shouldn’t at least one of those weapons be placed behind their head? Doesn’t putting all the weapons in front kinda defeat the purpose? ❌

- “Doesn’t that mean it’ll consume you too?” How have none of the Serpentine figured this out? I know Pythor figured he’d be able to control it, but that brings in the whole other sin of where he got that idea from ❌

- “If all we have to do is just get one fangblade to stop him what if we take back the other three? Pythor wouldn’t risk having them all on him. He’s probably hidden them somewhere while he goes for the fourth.” Lloyd is a genius; change my mind ✅

- “Finally, I don’t have to hold back!” Kai is either a liar, or an a*shole ❌

- “But if he can’t bite through your skin, he can’t turn you into one of them!” Great, so your arm is safe, but what about the rest of your body? Or your other arm? None of that is covered entirely in metal. This doesn’t seem like a very reliable defense. ❌

- Also, what happens if one of them has to fight a type of snake different than what they’ve trained for? Like, Zane can turn on falcon vision to escape the effects of Venomari venom, but something tells me the others might not be able to fall back on the same plan. ❌

- “I am concerned my old bones can’t keep up.” I don’t have to explain why this is a sin, right? We’ve all seen season 11 - we all know this is bullsh*t, right? ❌

- “So Jay and Nya rejiggered the design…” In the last 5 seconds?!?!?! ❌

- How can any of them tell which wall drawing is supposed to be of which ninja? Cole assumes he’s the one given the mustache, but the drawing itself is colored red. ❌

- What kind of files is he transferring? Seriously, what could Garmadon find in that computer that could actually help him in any way? I doubt he’ll be able to take over the world using the ninja’s chore chart ❌

- I know that the ninja all make, like, “fighting noises” during battle, but I specifically love the way Jay always says, “WAHHHHHHH-“ ✅

- Zane’s afraid of food? ❌

- OR is it meant to symbolize the fact that Zane’s a nindroid and is afraid he’ll never be able to experience most “human” pleasures (such as food) the same way most humans will? Probably not, but I’ll never pass up an opportunity to drop some angst

- “I’ll let you have the honors.” “Oh no, after you!” Underrated moment that showcases some of Kai’s character development ✅

- HIS ARM AND LEG SLEEVES ARE ROLLED UP- ✅

- They could update the suit (by adding the metal head piece) but still couldn’t make it fit him correctly?? ❌

- Small detail but during Jay’s true potential episode, Pythor gets the fangblade that glows blue. During Cole’s, he gets the one that glows white-ish/brownish, and during Kai’s he gets the one that glows red. In this ep, he gets the one that glows green. ✅

🎶 Do you listen to music while you write? What song have you been playing on loop lately?

-i dont necessarily listen to music when i write, like maybe i'll have some music going in the background because i need at least a low level of noise at all times or i'll go insane, but i know rn i'm listening to jazz radio on pandora because my brother put it on like 7 hours ago and its still going. i'm a huge fan of the classical composer Holst and his suite The Planets, and i'll listen to that when im writing or need to focus on whatever it is that i'm doing (Jupiter was my school song in high school and is actually one of my favorite classical songs because it's very lovely)(link here bc i have to share it)(this is a link to a playlist of the rest of the suite)

-i mostly just have the tv on if im writing at home, and then i'll usually put something like s1 of Lois and Clark, Green Lantern: the Animated Series, Tanked, some random cooking show, or Mysteries at the Museum. or whatever my youtube recommends. depends on how im feeling each day and how much i'll need to actually focus on my fic.

-this is more in my aus that i haven't written but hopefully will eventually, but giving bruce's kids to literally anyone else. i have an au where the only kids bruce keeps are dick and damian and maybe duke. i have another where duke is trained/fostered by alan scott and his husband, and another where duke is trained/fostered by midnighter and eventually apollo. the au where the only kids bruce gets are dick and dami and duke is the same one where all the other batkids are taken in by various gotham rogues. i have aus where tim is trained/taken in by dinah lance and her mom dinah drake, kon is adopted by alan scott, roy is adopted by dinah and his her sidekick instead of olivers, billy is adopted by lex luthor, kon stays with lex luthor and is raised by him along with lexs daughter who is kons half twin, billy is adopted by clark and hal and sorta guy and the rest of the red lanterns that i like, clark is found by the gls when hes a baby and is raised by kilowog, etc etc etc. bestie i have so many aus and i could talk about them for ages (edit: i also have one where jason is adopted by john constantine and etrigan the demon without jason bloods knowledge)
