Okay I’m back in my bullshit and I’m gonna make all of you see it!

Dose anyone think about how traumatic getting your powers are if you aren’t born into the empowered society? Like seriously messed up it is?

Lasko ran away-like not even counting in that laskos parents were bad, he still was miserable! He knew something was wrong, that something was up with him. He hid himself away and was isolated. And for other people, getting their powers is amazing! A cause for celebration, a party!! Pats on the shoulders and hugs!

People who don’t have that privilege? It’s a coin toss of what’s going to happen to them. Some run away, others are forced to play pretend before they snap and run, some can be hurt, others exploited, called crazy or insane. And that’s just a few things I can think of :(

Just the inherent lack of information out there leads to extremely high risks of people being hurt or worse and I get why they hide. It’s magic, it’s powerful and it’s dangerous but holy shit. What’s worse, a few people taking advantage of magic or letting hundreds if not thousands of uninformed people get hurt and risk covert anyway—I mean holy shit closeknit exist anyway and taking advantage of humanborns/people who don’t know SHIT

I’m not saying that the empowered world should go public, now or never who’s to say. But I AM saying is to put some things in place so it’s easier for those not born in the know to get help and be properly educated about what’s happening to them or a loved one. Especially in big cities, like dahlia.

Empowered Internet

Okay. Most of y’all have probably seen me playing around with polls, pretending we’re all empowered, right? Tagging things as “#Keep It Covert” to be cheeky and acting like I’m asking questions to “Empowered Tumblr”

But let’s think about that for a second

Gavin says there are apps for empowered people, which is cool and I wish someone would have elaborated on that by now but what about accessing the internet from your computer browser?

After the Inversion, Erik posted the Department’s official statement on the tragedy with a remarkably convincing fake CloseKnit “ad” right before it

It looked almost just like standard YouTube

But there is A) no way the Department would make that video public where unempowered people could happen across it. The Department maintains covert as its number 1 priority. And B) no way the Department and maybe even the rest of empowered society would bother making a whole separate YouTube just for themselves when YouTube is already right there

So. Obviously there’s some way to access empowered portions of the internet from the standard unempowered internet

Like when you make a YouTube account you put a code into your channel name box (like “EmpoweredID#123456789Covert”) that disappears but unlocks the empowered side of things or something along those lines. Something unempowered people wouldn’t be able to find accidentally

And that’s where you find empowered spaces

Podcasts, vloggers, musicians, ebooks by empowered authors, Facebook groups for shifter packs and vampire clans, empowered-only Discord servers, and so on and so forth

Probably not accessible on every website, but the biggest ones like YouTube and Twitter and Facebook definitely have that feature. If the Department gets enough requests for other websites, they’ll go to said website’s developers and get that access added there too (Tumblr hasn’t been approved yet because I think that’s funny—but the empowered users of Tumblr definitely figured out hints to show each other who’s a fellow magic user) and wipe the developers’ memories of ever doing it, potentially

The two things I need to know more about regarding the empowered world:

1. The empowered school system, before the college level??

Are there like, empowered kindergartens? They may not have powers yet, but you can’t expect a 5 year old to keep quiet about what they know in a regular unempowered school.

And after they’ve developed powers? Empowered junior high? Empowered high schools?

How do they keep that covert? Do they have specialized curriculum about empowered society and government? How much do they learn about unempowered society and government?

What about special empowered extracurriculars? Do they play other empowered schools in sports? In academic competitions?

2. Pop culture within empowered society??

Is there separate empowered media? TV, movies, music, etc? How is it distributed and still kept covert? Empowered pop stars? Empowered movie stars?

Are there separate empowered social media sites? Empowered Instagram where they can post themselves using their powers to their heart’s content? Empowered YouTube? Twitter? Tumblr?

What are the empowered memes like?

I have a lot of my own headcanons about this stuff, but I would love to get some answers in canon!!

I have a love/hate relationship with flashbacks

On one hand, I love being able to set up a situation like that, it's absolutely one of my favorite things to write.

Being able to give background and context without making the main story too long, it brings me an unbelievable amount of joy

But on the other hand, I feel like I'm setting up a family guy cutaway🧍🏾‍♀️

For example, I'm writing a sam/darlin story rn, and I'm making a flashback to a time Darlin' broke Sam's nose on accident.
