wdym daily multivitamins arent good for u
OK wait i might have dramatized it / slightly misrememberd some stuff like i wouldnt say its like "not good for u" in the sense that it poses an extreme danger or risk. its more like, theres not as good as regulations as there should be and a lot of labels might contain inappropriate info/dosage . also multivitamins/vitamin supplements in general are really only useful/necessary if youre otherwise low on the nutrients theyre providing (liek if you have an eating disorder, or if youre poor & can't eat well bc of that, etc) and on top of that, you may be unnecessarily dosing yourself with too much of a nutrient without even really knowing bc multivitamins arent made to an individuals needs/body (which can have varying effects depending on a lot of factors)
like our bodies arent necessarily made to absorb nutrients from a pill, the best and most effective way to get a particular nutrient you may be deficient in is to start eating foods rich in it (unless your body in particular cant process it in a regular way). vitamins in general arent usually rlly good to be taking daily long term, it seems better to take them for a short term, specific use as a treatment, esp if youre not needing them for a disorder or smthng
TBH i would just recommend researching whatever vitamins youre taking or interested in, some key things i look up are: "best dose" "side effects" "uses" with the name of whatever im taking + i add on "reddit" if im struggling to find anything.
one of the best examples of this to me is melatonin, ik its not a vitamin but still, theres a lot of stuff like this. you'll almost definitely find it on the shelves at doses starting at as low as 1mg (if youre lucky) to around 10 or possibly even as high as 20mg. i personally haven't found any in a store lower than 1mg. but actually, the most effective doses range from as low as .1mg-.6mg (though it will always be different per individual) and it seems like ~0.3mg is what a lot of ppl report as the best dose for them. that means a decent amount of ppl are taking ~33x what could be the appropriate dose for them! now ofc, doing this for even a long time won't kill or possibly even hurt you. i took that much for a long time, and would even wake up in the middle of the night and take more! at the standard doses we see, a lot of ppl report worse, disrupted sleep. you'll most likely safely go back to normal after stopping for a while if any of this info is alarming lol. anyway ya ^ this is my essay on vitamins Thanks im nawt like an expert or a scientist im just autistic

Ok So. I’m too scared to ask this on reddit so we’re asking this here.
SO: Background- For the Past 3-4 years I’ve had decently rough period pain- (I say that time because It’s only been about that amount of time I’ve been menstruating, and I haven’t got any memory of pain levels before that)- anyway- the past year it’s gotten really bad. I’m in severe, doubling over pain every time- can barely walk without feeling like I’m dying- pain so bad I can’t sleep. Throwing up every couple of months because of the pain and always nauseous. my period isn’t super heavy or long, so idk what’s up. But That’s between me and my doctors- it’s just context.
The real thing I’m here to ask is- Do people here have any niche pain cures???? I’ve tried anything and only drugs do anything- and I’m not the biggest fan of using drugs to put a bandaid on the problem basically and just end up either taking birth control which I’m not a big fan of for myself or taking advil and ibuprofen- which is usually what I end up doing- but it’s kind of putting a band aid on what’s likely a bigger problem as you’ll see based on my list of things that haven’t worked. Not to mention My cycle is somewhat irregular- and can range between 20-30 days, so I can’t just take one the day before and I I’m TERRIBLE with taking medication (Adhd/Autism- obvious if you look at my blog lol)- because I’m always running out or I just will consistently forget to take it even while I’m in pain. SO any niche cures? I’ve tried teas, essential oils, creams, heating pads, baths, exercise, dieting, magnesium, improving my iron, multivitamins, getting more protein, cold packs, many many many things- basically everything but this expensive electrocution thing, birth control, and being less stressed - which I’m working on but isn’t the best of help. I’ll be very interested and impressed to hear other things, for context, most of these have been ineffective besides occasionally essential oils, exercise being a coin flip of making things better or worse, and heating pads either being ineffective or making things worse.
Very interested to see if people have any- I know meds are probably going to be the answer until I fight through the health care system to try and find a more official solution- but I’d appreciate if there was something I haven’t tried- since I haven’t heard of THIS MANY THINGS not working. (it’s also definitely period pain- first day of my cycle- like clockwork.)

The other day I made an advice thread based on Jacobian’s from last year! If you know a source for one of these, shout and I’ll edit it in. 
 
Possessions
1. If you want to find out about people’s opinions on a product, google <product> reddit. You’ll get real people arguing, as compared to the SEO’d Google results.
2. Some banks charge you $20 a month for an account, others charge you 0. If you’re with one of the former, have a good explanation for what those $20 are buying.
3. Things you use for a significant fraction of your life (bed: 1/3rd, office-chair: 1/4th) are worth investing in. 
4. “Where is the good knife?” If you’re looking for your good X, you have bad Xs. Throw those out. 
5. If your work is done on a computer, get a second monitor. Less time navigating between windows means more time for thinking. 
6. Establish clear rules about when to throw out old junk. Once clear rules are established, junk will probably cease to be a problem. This is because any rule would be superior to our implicit rules (“keep this broken stereo for five years in case I learn how to fix it”). 
7. Don’t buy CDs for people. They have Spotify. Buy them merch from a band they like instead. It’s more personal and the band gets more money. 
8. When buying things, time and money trade-off against each other. If you’re low on money, take more time to find deals. If you’re low on time, stop looking for great deals and just buy things quickly online.

9. Steeping minutes: Green at 3, black at 4, herbal at 5. Good tea is that simple! 
10. Food actually can be both cheap, healthy, tasty, and relatively quick to prepare. All it requires is a few hours one day to prepare many meals for the week. 
11. Cooking pollutes the air. Opening windows for a few minutes after cooking can dramatically improve air quality. 
12. Food taste can be made much more exciting through simple seasoning. It’s also an opportunity for expression. Buy a few herbs and spices and experiment away.
13. When googling a recipe, precede it with ‘best’. You’ll find better recipes.

14. Advanced search features are a fast way to create tighter search statements. For example: img html  will return inferior results compared to: img html -w3  
15. You can automate mundane computer tasks with Autohotkey (or AppleScript). If you keep doing a sequence “so simple a computer can do it”, make the computer do it.

17. Done is better than perfect. 
18. Keep your desk and workspace bare. Treat every object as an imposition upon your attention, because it is. A workspace is not a place for storing things. It is a place for accomplishing things.

20. The 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes of screenwork, look at a spot 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This will reduce eye strain and is easy to remember (or program reminders for).

41. Selfish people should listen to advice to be more selfless, selfless people should listen to advice to be more selfish. This applies to many things. Whenever you receive advice, consider its opposite as well. You might be filtering out the advice you need most. 
42. Common systems and tools have been designed so everybody can handle them. So don’t worry that you’re the only one who can’t! You can figure out doing laundry, baking, and driving on a highway.

43. Deficiencies do not make you special. The older you get, the more your inability to cook will be a red flag for people.
44. There is no interpersonal situation that can’t be improved by knowing more about your desires, goals, and structure. ‘Know thyself!’ 
45. If you’re under 90, try things. 
46. Things that aren’t your fault can still be your responsibility. 
47. Defining yourself by your suffering is an effective way to keep suffering forever (ex. incels, trauma).

In terms of format and content, I’d say Tumblr is my favorite. In terms of community, I prefer Youtube. If that doesn’t count, I got a Reddit account and they’re not too terrible.
2.  Which parent/guardian/family member do you look the most like? (Alternate: With which parent/guardian/family member do you share the most personality traits?)
Though I think the answer to the first depends on who the person answering knows more, I think I get a lot of my personality from my dad.
3. What’s your favorite fanfic trope?
One trope I’m becoming more and more appreciative of is Chekov’s Gun. To over-simplify, if something is mentioned, it can become important later. For fanfics specifically, it’s always interesting to see what random details from source material people rely on to make their stories.
4. Who’s your favorite character type? (What’s a trait or archetype that your favorite character in different series share?)
There are two different archetypes I personally find interesting. The first is really loud characters who don’t give up on their lofty aspirations. The second is snarky characters who are annoyed by the world asking too much of them. These two are close to the opposite of each other and I don’t know how I ended up with these tastes.

This is definitely a weird trio, but I’d get Hiro Mashima (because of course, I would), C.S Lewis (master writer of fiction and non-fiction) and Alan Menken (favorite living composer). Depending on who couldn’t come, I’d go with Watari Wataru, Tim Keller or Sergei Rachmaninoff.

As a composer, I’m genuinely concerned that I can’t think of a good answer. For now, I’ll just go with their favorite song, until I’m able to write something better.

Japan or Italy. At this point, I’m sure that the right answer could be “Out of the United States”.

I don’t care how this will sound: The Original Broadway Cast Recording for The Spongebob Musical. I’ve listened to it like 8 times, it’s so good. Keto Changed My Life
I posted this on reddit, but I will share it here as well as it is my writing for the day.
"Hey all, new here, not new to keto, but after reading the amazing stories here, I just kinda wanted to share mine, being I'm supposed to write something once a day, this is my writing for the day. Back in September, I listened to an interview between Joe Rogan (Comedian) and Maynard James Keenan (Musician/Artist). I mostly listened for Keenan as he is one of my idols. At a part of the interview, they spoke about how Keenan takes care of his health, and spoke about Jiu Jitsu, as well as the Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting. This was the first I had heard of either of the latter, and this was the start of turning my life around. Rewind to April of last year. I had moved to a new state, changed my name, and quit my job after a year. I was on a course to figure my life out, to hit reset, after a ton of emotional turmoil from the year before. I moved with my gf at the time to her parents house. 2 weeks later, she broke up with me, and moved out of state, leaving me at her parents house as I tried to figure out what to do through depression. Her family was very kind and helpful to me, and it made it easier, but everything hurt, mentally, and because of that, physically. I was diagnosed in 2014 with fibromyalgia, which is also what got me kicked out of the military, and under extreme stress, the pain goes wild. I was out of shape because of the previous job being about 80 hours a week with almost no benefits, I was already depressed because of my grandfather passing the day before my birthday the year prior, and now I was in the middle of nowhere, with a new name, and no one but her family. I found work back in the old job field I was in, and moved to St. Louis, and this is where it all started. I always wanted to get into game development, and by some miracle, this city has a game dev scene. So I started to go, and that was the little tidbit getting me by until that interview above. After that interview, I went to youtube, and found two channels: Thomas Delauer, and What I've Learned. I started marathoning their channels, learning as much as I could from them. On my birthday at the end of September, I enjoyed my last non-diet beers in memory of my grandfather, and decided that October 1st, it begins, I'm going to either figure out everything and take my life back, or I'm going to find a new way to cope. October 1st, I started with a 6 day water fast with a multivitamin. (I also started a social media purge to remove that from my life, and I only go on social media once a month now to post life updates for friends and family.) It started great, but my job exhausted me a lot, so when I had a day off on the third day, I didn't exercise and my body was mad at me, so I got some symptoms on the list to stop the fast, and so I broke it with eggs and a slice or two of ham. The next day, I went to my ex's parents house (still good friends with them) for dinner, and they made keto tacos for me to sort of celebrate. I got home, and I went shopping that night, it was time to stock my fridge. I didn't know how to cook, so this was daunting to me. I had never in my 25 years cooked anything further than basically mac n cheese and grilled cheese. There were a few meals I had cooked with my parents, but that stuff doesn't really stick. But I figured I had to do it, I was living alone and I had to survive somehow, so this was where I would start. The first thing I wanted to learn to make was my favorite food in the world, cheeseburgers. I got lettuce to replace the buns, and started it up. When I finished and bit into it, I legit thought it was one of the best burgers I had had, but the lettuce annoyed me a bit. I then learned how to make my own buns, and started learning all the substitutes, and was just amazed that I literally never needed to stray away, I could eat everything I loved in a healthier form for my life. After this initial point, I realized a lot of things happening without expecting the level of it all. First, my acne started clearing up. It was never horrible, but it always bugged me, and it started vanishing. Then, for the first time in my life, my facial hair came in even instead of just in patches, which made me entertain the idea of growing it out for once, which I have since and I like it a lot. The 20 lbs I had gained from my previous job literally just vanished. It all dissipated, and suddenly when I looked in the mirror, I had muscle tone. My sleep improved dramatically, and even 6 hours was good enough to keep myself going at a good pace. I realized it was easier to go from "I want to do this" to actually doing it, motivation felt easier than ever before. Lastly, I could think again. I wasn't forgetting things anymore, I was able to retain information, complete thoughts, my speaking cleared up, and most important, I could recall even older memories, which was one of the biggest breaking points of me desperately wanting to keep this diet; I realized how badly my ex had gaslit me because I could finally remember everything she used against me out of context of what I actually said. I was finally able to overcome her, and move forward. The funny thing was, it didn't stop from there. This is a long post already, but I'll sum up the last few parts leading up to now. I finally started learning programming and Japanese like I always wanted to. I quit the job I was in and found a better job in my field for the first time in 3 years. I made a ton of new friends in a group that I finally feel like I fit in with. I replaced all of my time wastes into time valuable efforts, even making my gaming time turn into an effort to write for a blog I befriended. I quit drinking almost entirely outside of social events because feeling dehydrated is hell. The last part was the key thing that essentially brought me back to the diet. The holidays are hell on any diet, too much stuff, so much cheating. I decided, being this was the first time in years I could see family for the holidays, I'd cheat for those weeks, anything goes. It actually started slow, but I realized as time went on, my mind fogged, my energy depleted, I was tired, I felt anxious, and the worst part of all, my feet got cold. A common symptom of Fibromyalgia can often be numbness of the feet, or a cold feeling, as well as sensitivity of the skin. In all that time I was in ketosis, I never once realized that my Fibro was almost entirely gone. I didn't go a day with pain for once in my life, and everything else felt so amazing that I got high on it and forgot I even had fibro. My Dad and Step Mom were starting keto because of me, and when I stayed with them for a week, they saw me degenerate like I did, they knew what was up. I got back home, and slammed back into the diet. My feet aren't cold anymore, my pain is gone, my skin isn't sensitive. Everything has gone back. My dad and I agreed that next time, we just aren't cheating, it isn't worth it, it isn't fun, the food isn't better, the life isn't better. The beer is great, as we both love good beer, but we found ways to work around that instead. As of last monday, it has been 5 years since I shipped to basic for the Army. When I started this diet, I hadn't felt as good as I did since that time. Now that I'm home from the holidays, I feel even better than I ever did in or before the Army. I convinced my mom to switch to keto as well next week, and I've got people at my new job all asking me for info now. 5 years ago, I thought my life was screwed because of fibro, because I was disabled at that point. I found herbalism, and it gave me my ability to walk back, but not my ability not feel pain. Keto gave me everything back, every single thing, and even went as far as giving me the power to finally push and learn code, and this month, I'll be making my first game in a game jam in St. Louis.
