white diamond redesign! i wanted her to look the least human/approachable. she doesn't move right, she doesn't use her mouth when she speaks. this is a good time to say that in my revamp all of the diamonds speak in early modern english/old english. they use "thee, thou, wouldst," etc. it sets them further apart from their gems. only aristocrats are allowed to use the dialect the diamonds use, like sapphires. moreover, there's distinctly something missing from her because she wasn't supposed to cast off her hues or body parts. i wanted pink to be ever-so-slightly visible in her colors because her split with pink was uneven and left a lasting mark on her legs, or what's left of them. i feel like her use of metal/jewelry (or at least the appearance of it) helps put her apart from the other diamonds. last but not least, i wanted her to look the furthest from pink as possible. pink is all round shapes and doesn't have any diamond patterns on her, while white is all angles and simplicity. also, her halo is grandest and most elegant, when compared to blue and yellow's and especially pinks- it's thin, even and perfect.

while riptide in general reads extremely well as a queer allegory jay in particular has ALWAYS read as a trans person to me. her entire arc is about being ‘undercover’ in a group she is unfamiliar with outside of the negative gossips spread by her old inner circles, as she slowly realizes with dread that she is just like them. her main climax to her story in episode 53 was her looking her father in the eyes and crying and saying this is who i am. i am exactly what you didnt want me to be. the response he gives is violent, and the last thing he says as he watches her leave is ‘you wont be a daughter to me anymore’ not family, not navy, specifically a daughter. and she leaves her family and its scary, its frightening, she has panic attacks reading letters from her mother and trying to call her grandma but she is away from the navy, this worlds vision of normalcy and going with the grain and working with the system that harms people and she views this life as *freedom*. she is asked what she gets out of being a pirate it is the way that she can be herself. in her redesign outfit (which i have my qualms with, separate post though) she is so extremely opposite to how she is originally described and it reads so well through the lens of being trans. she was straight laced with a laced shirt buttoned all the way to her neck, her hair is trimmed and kept in a nay style ponytail, she does not stray from the norm and she does not lose focus. until she does. she told her father who she is and she lets her hair down, quite literally in this case. she wears her long hair with pride like fire in battle and she wears jewelry and tinkering tools and tight fitting shirts that she would never allowed to have worn. she is using her and accepting of her femininity in a way that is directly against her family and the *worlds* idea of how she should be. how she should look. “you have always had the talent to be something more, so why chose a life that will put you in the way of harm? that will make you an enemy of your family, an enemy of the entire world.” “for the first time in my life, when i became a pirate i was able to feel free. this is my life, these are the people who ive chosen” idk man. points at her. jay ferin transwoman. also you should trust me because im a transfem person who named herself jay

a redesign for marel, an old oc of mine! she's a jewelry obsessed fanatic and basically the jedi version of a magpie with a very sunny disposition, so i feel like the shiny little details on her outfit now suit her much better. overall very pleased with this update to her look.

i have to explain all of her lore at some point, but she does have a nautolan padawan named val'ryik who i've drawn before! marel thinks he's too focused on boring things like duty and proving himself to the council and needs to lighten up, while val thinks marel has to be on some sort of drugs all the time cause she never runs out of energy. i have to draw them together again at some point!

CLEARLY these two are my favorite of the ROR line up as I’ve only been able to create redesigns I truly love of them, every body is… kinda goofy looking ngl.

I know there designs are so different that it’s kinda crazy but I literally love them so much!

If you don’t know already Morgies the tall one with a red mullet and Hook is the buffer one with a beard.

I’ve explained my choices in design for Hook but that was literally my first post sooo…

Facial features are based off of the actors face normally. You can see that clearer in my Carlos design, but Hook has Colleys thicker eyebrows and Morgie has Lindell’s faint freckles. However if you look below you’ll see just… how completely changed they are:

Btw something about Live action Hooks is that they just… EAT SO FRICKIN BAD LIKE WTF. This has got to be some universal rule that a live action Hook variant must eat and be so so cool at ALL TIMES. ( for me it’s less about sexy and more about they look so cool)

More of my changes also come from character design things. Like the exaggerated lashes and visable water lines. I like to differentiate noses, eyes, eyebrows, and chins because I feel that’s something that really helps combat same face syndrome. It also helps when I make related characters, so they don’t look like carbon copies, I’ll trade some features in and out and swap them around. I give most characters baggy eyes, because I like the definition it gives them.

I also like to make color palettes similar and opposing, and add some traits that show small insights to the character. Hook and Morgie have warm color palettes for their clothes, however Hooks skin is warm, while Morgies is cold, a sign to his unnatural human form and his association with necromancy ( tho when he was just learning how to hold this form as a youngling he was much paler, now he has spent so much time with real mortal people he has learned to blend in with more realistic skin tones and knows how to flush his skin as if he has blood under it like them)

As a fun little thing tho they swap this theme with their eyes. Hooks eyes are cold and icy blue, while Morgies are chocolate. Of course even though his natural eyes are more like a yellow snakes eyes they are still warm yellow to Hooks cold blue. And they share the same taste in jewelry to opposite the other couple in their group. Hook and Morgie wear gold as their preferred choice of color for jewelry . Maleficent and Hades wear silver. Uliana wears wtv tf she wants, she doesn’t care. Also Hook and Morgie wear warm colors where as Hades and Mali wear cool colors. (Clothing is different from skin, so even tho Morgies flesh form isn’t natural and can never have the right look of skin fully he can still just wear normal clothes) Again Uli don’t care and wears what she wants to look as cool as she wants.

Here their ages are 19 and 20, with Morgie being older, and Hook is the shorter one during this time because, again, Morgies form is meant to be more unnatural due to his unorthodox creation, and even though my art is a little squished, Hook is the 2nd tallest of their group( making Morgie very abnormally tall) .

However there’s a 15 year gap where Morgie had been terrorizing his cousin Archie of Camelot and his chief warlock Marvin Merlinson and he forgets to age his human form. I’m giving him a cool gold armor set like Morgana from Troll hunters so that’s basically what he wears for like 15 years. So when he reunites with his old friends Hook has grown really tall and got a little grey, so before he gets out of his armor he has to change his form real quick so it doesn’t freak his friends out that he still looks like, mid 20s and theyre all late thirties pushing early forties. But he desires to stay shorter then Hook because that’s new and… intriguing.

Also Morgie is now also British like Hook!! (Arther is literally a BRITISH story! Why isn’t Morgie a CELTIC LAD) like I know the whole thing is that Brit’s suck with their plain ass beans with toast and black fucking pudding ( despicable shit 0/10 would not recommend) but King Arther and half sister are so cool, everyone was stupid for not knowing who Morgana Le Fay is 😤

Hook is from Oxfordshire and Morgie was “born” in Cornwall but raised in the kingdom of Avalon. (Don’t ask about why England exists in the same world as Auradon)

Arkan and Temptel embody everything a guardian should be.

Here they are, everyone's favorite teachers! Hands down the most iconic and beloved adults in both the comic and series, and with good reason: this pair is perfectly balanced in terms of design and personality, so I had to do them justice with my redesigns. I'm super proud of how they came out :D

My first step was comparing the comic designs to their show counterparts. The biggest difference for Arkan was his age: he was visibly older in the series, and I'd argue this decision was made so his character design would reflect his wisdom and authority better, and I'd focus on reflecting this notion. Meanwhile, Temptel saw little to no change, and I couldn't agree more with this decision made by the show staff: don't fix what ain't broke!

Teaching is all about theory and practice: knowing the rules and testing them out. I wanted Arkan to embody theory, and in turn Temptel would represent practice; it aligns with the role of angels and devils perfectly (who in turn represent "thinking slow" VS "thinking fast", respectively). As such, I decided Arkan would look more austere and grounded compared to Temptel's impeccably chaotic fashion.

Arkan's new outfit is based on pilot uniforms to evoke authority and discipline. The trench coat, foulard ascot and Oxford dress shoes override the military coding and turn it into classy and elegant. The reading glasses convey he's prepared to observe and learn. I wanted to convey experience, wisdom and authority without incurring on the old mentor trope. In character design, there's many ways of relying the same message!

"Spooky chic" came back with a vengeance! I love me some "spooky chic", which is definitely a staple of devil fashion at this point. I synthetized the shapes and details as much as I could for the sake of serialization: if this character had to be drawn over and over again in a comic or cartoon, a simpler but iconic design would make a big difference on the long run. I know I'd be grateful ;P

Arkan's color palette is a more desaturated version of Raf's, sans the red. I added warm brown tones and a bright orange (same color as Temptel's eyes!) to contrast all the blueish grey. I chose to make his cardigan a very muted color so it would complement the lighter tones much better.

Temptel's colors are a mix of her two palettes: her skin, hair and physical features take after the comic, while her wings, horns and dress are more purple like in the show. Her silver jewelry is a callback to Sulfus as well. Lastly, Temptel's makeup is the same blue as Arkan's eyes, but with the saturation value cranked up to the max.

Random tidbits that went into the design process: despite being younger than his show version, I wanted to keep Arkan's hair color light to complement Temptel's more saturated and darker colors. While I don't think he counts as an accurate representation of real albinism/achromia, I definitely coded him that way. As for Temptel, I thought sneaking in a little treat for her was appropriate, since she's the type of teacher who mixes work with fun: it's also a nod to her sweet tooth in the comics.

I believe this will be my last redesign duo this year since I want to focus on commissions and the holidays, but I'll definitely continue working on the rest of the Golden School staff. Wish me luck and let's see what the future brings :D

I finally got an armor design that I like for Kyrahk. Caspian’s outfit needed a whole redesign, his old one did not fit his captain status. Velehk barely changed except for a couple new items (claw jewelry, his anti-summoning charm choker [gay], and a stolen ring and stolen finger). Lorelei was a blast (she belongs to @liches-covered-in-lich !). Rakell big.

My Twilight Sparkle human and pony redesign/AU!

For her pony redesign, I wanted to focus on making her more “magical/ethereal” looking. I incorporated that into her design because in my AU, large amounts of magic/power can drastically change a ponies appearance! Of course, the severity depends on the pony’s personality, their attachment to their old life (before they were an Alicorn), and the amount of magic/power they acquire. Also, in my AU all Unicorns have curved horns, and the length is a spectrum! In most cases, the longer the horn the more powerful a ponies magic is! Obviously there are some exceptions due to genetics playing a role in the length as well (including mutations/disorders). Another trait specific to Unicorns is their tail! Like with their horns, there can be many exceptions! For example, if a filly has one Unicorn parent and one Earth Pony parent, they could have either tail, or even a mixture of both! I also decided to give Twilight some jewelry, as most royals historically have lots of gems/gold/etc. Her vision deteriorated over the years due to several reasons; 1-Reading for very long periods of time (4-10h) 2-Reading in the dark often 3-Holding books very close to her eyes. That’s why I gave her glasses! Although she probably won’t ever see perfectly again, the glasses help her a ton. As for her cutie mark, I thought making it more “magic-y” could be fun!

Her human design is very similar, except for the fact that she’s a human and not a pony of course! She has vitiligo in place of her swirly magic markings and glasses, and I incorporated her cutie mark by giving her a little star necklace! In this AU, she’s very interested in space, hence the spacey vest. She also loves skirts with built in shorts, stating that “They’re comfy and efficient!”. She says the same about her shoes! She’s always had some sensory issues, so she only has one pair of socks. Don’t worry though, she has a ton of the exact same pair! She’s very hygienic, but not a germaphobe. Speaking of germs, she loves biology (almost as much as space)! I kept her hair streaks and gave her a messenger bag! It holds all her study materials, and she takes it with her everywhere.

you know the drill. headcanons and canon changes here we go:

first off it has always bothered me how it is mentioned in canon that she has magicks but it’s never specified what or anything so let’s change that.. in my au, she is a siren. no, not a mermaid. a siren. a siren is a type of magicks user, essentially a very talented hypnotist. (lillian is also a siren) they have great power of suggestion, and that power is even more potent when done by singing (though it’s much more obvious). cadenza however, is also originally from Zerimar. this means she has rune tattoos, giving her a trait based on her name. the name cadenza means beautiful voice, and so that is her power. not only is her voice literally beautiful, but she can make anything, even the most gut wrenching sentences, sound beautiful. she can essentially make anyone do anything she wants. but she doesn’t, because she has a pure heart.

she originally started by making doll dresses for her younger sister, Eseryt. After being separated from her she decided to make as many dresses she could to somehow honor her sister. its therapeutic, and reminds her of a simpler time.

her fingertips are often colorfully stained from dying fabrics… or laurances hair…

the necklace she wears was her biological mother’s. Eseryt had (has) a matching one. once it broke and she went crying to laurance asking if he could fix it. he couldn’t so she had to figure it out herself

she loves painting, especially flowers.

after being turned into a chicken, she went vegetarian.

before becoming lord she had a boutique, where she sold all the clothes she made.

after becoming lord she stopped selling them and simply gave them to villagers in need of some new clothes.

she always and inexplicably smells like cinnamon and roses.

she used to force laurance to dress up and wear makeup and jewelry and braid his hair as a kid. as they grew up, she realized she could stop forcing him because he actually loves to feel pretty.

she never cuts her hair but she takes extra good care of it.

as a child, she had a cat named cricket. she named her cricket because her meow sounded more like a chirp.

after alina is born, she calls her cricket because she’s so full of energy just like that cat was.

garnet calls her auntie cadenza (or just auntie denza until she’s old enough to say it right)

alina calls her aunt caddy.

after becoming lord, she becomes a lot more conscious about covering her rune tattoos. if word got out that she was from zerimar or that she had magicks that could potentially be used to manipulate others she could be overthrown, abducted, or even assassinated. or worse.. o’khasis could declare war on New Meteli

Ok so for the “child of Frankensteins creature”, instead of being the child of victor Frankenstein, imagine a universe where victor was actually nice to his creation, gave him a name (Adam Frankenstein), and created a child for him instead of a bride. Also imagine Frankie sees Victor as an uncle more than a grandpa even tho he is technically their grandpa lmao

15 days old = 15 yrs old, they’re a sophomore at monster high

Since Mattel can’t make Frankie green anymore because of copywrite, I made them bluish and greenish yellow, blue for the g3 design and green yellow for the book design of Frankensteins creature (his skin is yellow because of formaldehyde so why not have Frankie’s skin a little yellow too)

Loves doodling on their prothetic leg

I went with an even nerdier design than last time I drew Frankie just because in the reboot movie, they wore sweater vests a lot and I thought it was cute lol

Loves accessorizing and piercings sm like their room is probably filled with diy jewelry kits and different jewelry for piercings (ofc their dad makes them get them professionally done no diy piercings here 😞)

Has a friendship bracelet with all friends possible and probably makes more all the fime

Their bag is a blue star bag with a yellowish white fluffy shoulder pad

Very very very tall, not as tall as their 8ft tall dad tho lmao

Loves platform shoes and bright makeup

Hair is like a side shave (shaved side is purple) with black streaks and a blue underdye

Doesn’t have braces anymore maybe they got them removed Lmao

Very much involved in school and probably has the most school spirit out of everyone

Doesn’t understand certain phrases (ex: bottle up ur feelings-they literally bottle up their feelings, it’s raining cats and dogs-probably will go looking for cats and dogs)

Based on my last redesign, probably still uses mobility aids when needed but they also have a prosthetic leg so idk how much

Can remove and add new limbs whenever
