She lives in a kinda apocalyptic world and loved learning about the world before it and when the plant life from before came back this type of flower she always carried a picture of was named after her
She posthumously got a species of plant that came to exist in-universe (called Marewill flowers) named after her. (Technically, the plants existed, under some other name, long before she was born, but they and all other green plants went extinct due to their planet spending a millennia as a hellscape; Mare, however, dreamed of a world that would be restored to its former glory, which drove a lot of the trilogy's plot, and once the people she'd left behind more or less achieved her goal, the flowers she'd tried to put back in the world were named in her honor.) So her name and the name of a flower are now linked even though they weren't during her life.
So... how the hell did Redwall’s TV series get away with it?
So many deaths. Not a lot of blood but a lot of impalements, stabs and pretty darn brutal ways to go. Mattimeo and other children are enslaved, being forced from their families with little hope of escape unless their parents can catch up.
I especially love how sincere it was even in a medium that may overstep its attempts to appeal to kids. I hope a time may come when this version of Redwall can continue in a similar way since a lot of kids TV has come a ways where this kind of story wouldn’t be out of the ordinary.
Also how did the Canadian cast pull off those authentic British accents?
Can I headcannon a character as Jewish even though they’re fairly explicitly not Jewish?
For context, this is Cornflower Fieldmouse
She lives next to Redwall Abbey, and her husband Matthias is an apprentice monk there when they meet.
Later he becomes a warrior but stays tied to the abbey and swears to protect them. So basically he’s still a monk but he’s a warrior monk now.
They have a kid later, which breaks the vow of celibacy, but this is never addressed so I assume he’s just exempt because he’s a ✨warrior monk✨ (it’s possible this is talked about in the later books as I’ve only read the first two out of twelve as well as seeing all three seasons of the show).
But anyway, it is a CRIME that this woman is not Jewish. Can she be Jewish in my heart, as a treat? Or would that be weird because she’s very heavily implied to be a mouse Christian? (Jesus is never mentioned, the devil is implied through Cluny the Scourge, and they mention G-d in passing, but the only other biblical adjacent figure is Martin the Warrior who is Matthias’ predecessor)
Will we ever have a more feminist moment then when Cornflower put on her husband's armor pretending to be a legendary warrior, to jumpscare superstitious birds from taking over her home, while we just know Martin and Gonff's ghosts were cheering from the sidelines?
🐭 Just one more! The 30th prompt for CuteGirlTober is Medieval, and I decided to go with Cornflower Fieldmouse from Redwall! Of course, she's holding her namesake!!
Cornflower: ive never held hands with a boy before what if i get pregnant?
Warbeak: what if he gets pregnant?
Cornflower: oh I didnt even think about that!
